Hubby had Scallops in Fennel sauce while I, the carnivore, had the Angus Striploin. Both were served with seasonal veggies and choice of risotto, potatoes or rice pilaf. I got risotto while hubby got rice.
The steak was beautifully cooked and was seasoned-enough for me. Hubby took a bite and found it wanting of more flavour (I had refused the freshly-ground pepper). There was a nice, roasted garlic and I loved that it went well with my steak. The risotto was quite nice as well.
Hubby’s scallops, which filled up only a third of the plate and will definitely not fill me up, was also perfectly cooked. He generously shared one of the three scallops with me and it was buttery, melt in your mouth. Hubby absolutely loved the sauce, but am not too fond of fennel. Still, it was delicious.
We did have room for some dessert so we tried their Mango Raspberry Semifreddo. It was the perfect dessert to cap our meal. Mango was smooth and velvety with bursts of raspberries. It was absolutely delightful and one of the best desserts we’ve had in a while.
Chicken curry in phylo pastry is so tasty. Small restaurant but a gem for aurora. The flavours are always amazing in all that they do.
I recently had my first dining experience at Bijoy's. Given the location and the look from the outside (it's in an old home on a street off the beaten path), had I not been referred there by an acquaintance who is a foodie, I probably would never have given this place a shot.
I'm glad I did! While the food was not "mind-blowing", we had an excellent meal that was good value. Everything, from the bread served before the meal to the desserts to end it were made in house and were very good.
I started with a warm brie served with cranberries and orange marmalade (im pretty sure the marmalade was made in house too) that was simple, but a terrific balance of tart, sweet and salt. Then I had a lamb curry served with basmati rice and some steamed veg. The curry was very good. Perfectly spiced with a nice mild to medium heat and not over cooked until the meat had no texture left, I would order this dish again.
Dessert was a perfect pavlova which was light and crispy and topped with fresh fruit... A BIG but light way to top off a meal.
4 people, with apps, mains, desserts and a bottle of wine dined for $50 per person. I would say that was good value for the meal we enjoyed. We will go back for dinner, but we'll probably go try lunch or breakfast sometime before that.
