Review Ricky's Country Restaurant - Abbotsford

I had the Butter chicken platter which was on the milder side but the taste was quite delicious. The pakoras were a bit spicier and was well prepared. The naan was what I believe to be prepackaged but warmed and good. The servings are large and reasonable priced. My mother had the fish and shrimp platter she was thrilled by the seafood but underwhelmed by the fries. As always everyone's taste buds experience things differently so please take any of my reviews with a grain of salt.

Ordered the Thai chicken salad, nice size plate, but is only lettuce, some chicken, some Chinese noodles and a dressing. There were no peanuts and not very Thai like taste. The garlic bread served with it was cold and soggy. No server came around to ask if everything was ok. They only came around to present bill. I told her the salad wasn’t prepared correctly and all she did was say “you should have had the California salad”. Really? Anyway, not going back to this sub-standard restaurant.

The reason this rating is so low is because of the multiple hiccups that happened. The saving grace was the waitress that served my family and made sure we felt comfortable. The day my family came in we had to wait quite a bit to be served. Whether this was due to Covid staffing or somebody calling in sick the service was slow. At one point my sister and I went to use the facilities and as I was finishing up the handle to the toilet came away from it's tank. I could pull the handle away from the toilet tank in my hand. I could of walked over to a staff member with the handle in my hand. My sister went to tell a waitress she made it seem like she knew and that she did not do something about earlier. Either she forgot or got busy with work but it came across as lazy. The last and final thing that happened was when I was eating my burger. ( super delicious by the way) when I noticed a rubber finger cover on my plate. I was grossed out and got my fries remade because I don't know if my food was compromised or not. Luckily my burger it self was wrapped in tinfoil for I asked for lettuce wrap instead of a bun. Again the saving graces to this was the waitress who served my table for grandma's 80th birthday. There was eight of us and that is no easy feat. However! Being an put of town guest this experience shouldn't happen to your customers.

I really enjoyed this place. The food was really good albeit small in portion size. It was expensive but the ladies there were really hardworking and friendly. I met a gentleman outside named Brad who works there and Id say the stop at Rickys was worth that interaction alone. So stop by, relax, eat, tip accordingly, and if your lucky, Brad will say hi to you.

I really enjoy the Ricky's Country Restaurant chain. I find the atmosphere to be family style. I'm not a fan of their all day grill locations, but the Country Restaurant is fantastic. At this location they had some unique decor including an old fashioned wood burning stove. The food was great. My only criticisms are that the Yorkshire pudding which was very dry and burnt tasting. The "crusty roll" was actually dry and brittle on the inside. Other than that, a great place to dine!

Visited a longtime friend the other night. We had farmer sausage soup and pie. Both of us were very pleased with our meals, good quality homemade food. I highly recommend the homemade soups, you can even buy containers to go. The server was attentive but let us keep chatting. We will be back.

Excellent service! Warm and friendly waitress who was very helpful with a peanut allergy and made sure everything my family and I requested was available. The decor is absolutely adorable and the food is wonderful! My Mom had the borscht soup and said it's the best she's had in awhile!

Love this location. Great food and great service. It will be a favourite to take my grands out to eat. Love that it still has menu items from when I used to work at the ABC.

If I could give a zero I would. The buffet was gross, lacking selection and over priced. No bacon on a buffet???? Everything was overcooked. Service was good....but the food was so horrible I can't bare to give it more stars.

Was at the restaurant last night. Arrived 7:40ish and we were seated straight away and given water. Then it took at least 20 minutes or more before we actually saw our server. By the time she came and took our orders she had only two other tables. It took another 20 minutes for my salad and diet coke to arrive. When she delivered our mains she complained to us how busy they had been (at this point she had two tables left in her section, us and the people beside us). My husbands order was wrong as was mine. My coke was never refilled (they have bottomless pop according to the menu). The food was good but the service certainly has gone downhill.

After ABC became Ricky's in Abbotsford, it still remained my first choice of restaurants ... whether just to meet a friend for coffee and snack or take my grandkids out to lunch or a a whole bunch of family for dinner. Well after tonight, I will be rethinking my options. We made reservations for 8 ... 4 adults and 4 kids including a baby. The table we were given was in the "Sports Bistro" section. Not our servers fault that I could tell, but very poor service getting all of our food out. Some of us were almost done before 1 of the kids and my mom got theirs. Then the whole time we were there, I listened to a guy at a table behind me ask the female (can't call her a lady) he was with to stop swearing. He told her multiple times it is a family restaurant and to stop swearing. ( F-bombs galore) He is correct ... family restaurant with a sports bistro section (NOT A SPORTS BAR) and our table ranged in age from 1 to 78!! My question is ... where was management? I felt so bad for our server lady trying to deal with her ... by the way ... her male company had got up and left without her. I went to speak to management and there wasn't any ... had gone home. This person was beyond rude and ignorant with no regard to anyone else in the room. Even told me it was my fault for bring children into a bar and that the sign outside even says so. Well guess what .. the sign says Sports Bistro!!! Very very poor management to only have 1 female server for the Sports Bistro section on a Saturday night and even worse on a Canucks game night. No staff ever went to their table and said anything to her. So shame on you too Ricky's for not making sure all your customers had the same opportunity to enjoy their time in your establishment as you let her have!!

The staff is so polite!! And the food is great!!!

Always great service and excellent food :) Our favorite place.

We went for dinner tonight to see if this would be like the ABC we have known for over 30 years. Happy to say that Abbotsford exclusives are still on the menu and there are some new selections as well. The new chicken tenders are terrific!! Service was spot on and it was a great choice for dinner!!

Great food. Friendly staff. Supper any night of the week.

It was pretty much the same as before Ricky's took it over. Great food, a little bit slow but made up for by great staff and service. Will continue to go there.
Donna Johnston
Best beet borsch in the world. Don't ever stop making it or I will never be a customer again!!!!!

Brutal long wait. I had to file a missing person for our waitress. Zorba the greek was not as advertised, stale wrap drowning in greek dressing with a complete lack of tatziki. Suck me hard Ricky.

The food was awful and the potatoes were raw and hard. When returned they had baccon in them, & I'm vegetarian. Third time they were still undercooked. We ended up leaving still hungry, such a disappointment. I used to enjoy the food, but since the change I dont see myself reccomending it to any one.

Best Ricky's there is!!

Their creamy farmer sausage soup is the best. I always say I'm going to have something else, but always have that.

Just left after being told my family of 5+1 highchair would be accommodated after 15 mins. 45 mins later we were told that you don't have tables to accommodate a highchair .... AFTER you took the family of 6 +1 highchair in before us when their name was after ours in the lineup. My daughter was hungry and started crying and all the waitresses did was roll their eyes and ignore us. I will Never be back nor will I recommend this place to anyone. So disappointed. What kind of family restaurant cant accommodate a highchair?!

Worst breakfast in my life. Eggs Benny. When i told the waitress about my foul tasting breakfast i was brushed off like yesterdays news. Sad. Never going back.

I remember when this restaurant was ABC Country Restaurant. My dad and sister often dined here in the 1990s. Now, the food is similar and still very good, but it is scandalously expensive (3.59$ for a coffee? Seriously?). The The W/C is not very clean and does not have enough capacity for the size of the restaurant. They let a party budge ahead of us in the line which we were waiting in for 10 minutes despite a reservation. All in all, somewhere I would recommend mainly for special occasions.

Tastes like home cooking to me. Was the perfect place to go on a somewhat rainy day. Location is across the street from the Best Western hotel and is a really good choice. (Don't be deterred by its simplicity). Service was friendly, played games while we were waiting, booths were comfortable... Nothing wrong with country cooking.

A great place for good family fare. If you're looking for Mennonite food this is the place to go. I've been going here for years and though the service is sometimes slow the food is always delicious.

Disgusted on May 6, 2015. The food was not fresh and I was given an open crushed package of crackers with my soup! The waitress Jo was an individual that could use training on her etiquette, food safe, and customer service skills. Will not return!

Inconsistent. Have been coming to this restaurant for years. Huge menu, minimum items done well (farmer sausage soup and home made pies are awesome).
If this restuarant gets the least bit busy, quality and service fall tremendously. This is very disappointing as you know they CAN do it right.
Was there tonight. We went because I had a craving for their Chicken Pesto Linguine. Had it once before and it was amazing. Tonight's dish was a disaster. First, my plate comes with fettucine noodles. After waiting quite some time while my fellow diners enjoyed their meals, my replate came with barely recognizable pesto, small portion of dried out chicken bits and only three prawns. (First time I had it, it came with 6 prawns and a good helping of tasty chicken.
This is not the first time that I have been let down here. It's a shame, because when it is good, it is really good. After tonight's fiasco, we will not be returning. We have given enough chances.

My advice? Do not go in peak hours, and stick to the soup or desserts.

Love it. Great comfort food, sausage and perogies! YUM, I also love the cute old couples here. My grandmother and I love this place as well. Big wait times for peak hours as mentioned in another post, but I think its worth it. :)

Sunday brunch buffet is AMAZING! From the perfectly poached bennys to the salads and desserts, everything we tried was perfection

Good atmosphere, lots of cute old people there socializing and on conservative dates. Expect huge lineups at peak hours. Solid comfort food. Pulled pork sandwich is good and so is farmer sausage soup. Desserts good too! Do the peanut butter pie.

When you need a family meal. I love ABC because it's a family restaurant. They offer those home cooked classics that you can't help but crave, and yet have kept up with the times offering Vegan and Gluten free selections.

I adore going in and ordering a 1/2 benny with delicious farmer sausage or popping in for some home-made pie.
GFtaster
GF Friendly. Go-to place for breakfast with friends! They serve Rempel's farmer sausage which is gluten free and so delicious. They also offer gluten free pancakes. I usually go all out with eggs, hash browns, farmers sausage and pancakes. It adds up since they charge extra for GF pancakes but well worth it!
Love My Steak
No better breakfast restaurant. L love it here service is good, food is good
Brent
For a big menu they execute fairly well. My biggest complaint is the service, it is rarely average and we only eat here when we don't feel like cooking
Leftcoastmark
Good food, good service and a great, quaint (and very clean) place. I have been here many times and always enjoy it. It's not a place for a romantic dinner but if you want good food at a decent price you won't be disappointed. It can be busy at lunch and parking can be a tad full, but generally not a big issue.

Farmer Sausage Soup. This is my first review ever, so hopefully it is not too unbearable, and hopefully I will get better as I start to write more!

Anyways, I was here about a month and a half ago. I normally don't go to this place, just because it's kind or tucked out of the way. But one of my best friends recommended we go for lunch there. Mainly for the Remple Meats Farmer Sausage soup. (exclusive to the Abby location)

Anyways this trip was all about that soup. I ordered it, and let me tell you, if you like meats, and sausage in particular, don't miss this soup! The soup has a creamy almost chowder-like appearance. Large pieces of potatoes, carrots and the farmer sausage throught out. The temperature of the soup was very hot (the way a soup should be)

There are other dishes on the menu with Remple Meats Farmer Sausage the I will go back to try in the future.

Questions? Comments? All are welcome
