Review Koganei Japanese Restaurant - Woodbridge

My friend and I went to this restaurant on this Sunday Easter! Highly recommended if you want to have a real culture and eating experience! Fresh sea food and what you do is just enjoy the feast and amazing services. The pictures are more than my thousand words.

I have experienced the best restaurant service here. They have a wide range of sushi, soups, seafood and much more, it’s literally feels like never ending. They also have bar, including their authentic Japanese drinks. The food tastes amazing. It’s a bit pricey but it comes with the best and quick service. I would definitely recommend this place.

We’ve been here twice now and the service never fails. The staff go above and beyond to accommodate you in any possible way. Everything comes out so fresh and delicious. Perfectly cut, cooked, and served. I’ve been to many sushi restaurants but this one tops them all. Even the atmosphere is great. Strongly recommend this restaurant 💙

A friend referred us to this spot, (they have amazing taste in restaurants), and it did not disappoint! First off, it is a little over priced but we were very happy with the quality and taste. We ordered the grilled skewers, (2 beef 2 chicken 2 shrimp for $19.99), and the woodbridge roll for $15.99. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere is so zen and beautiful decor. I'm not sure why everyone complains about the service staff because we had no issues. If you're on a budget this is not the place for you. If you want a good time with great food give Koganei a try!

Place was clean, interesting decor. Staff were friendly and accomodating. Service was prompt. Food was enjoyable. We had the hotpot, couple of appetizer, sushi and sashimi to try everything. We're sooo full. Tasty and all meat were fresh. Would definitely come vack to try other items in the menu!

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner set for two - food was hot and fresh! portions were great and service was top notch to date the least. The grilled mackerel was cooked to perfection (my personal favourite). Thanks for a wonderful evening dinner and hope to come back soon ✌🏻

The Koganei Fried Rice with Shrimp, Scallop and Tobiko was surprisingly really delicious. By far the best fried rice I ever had! Their sashimi was amazing and super fresh. For the expensive price, you can certainly taste the top notch, high quality ingredients put into each dish. Great restaurant to go to for a special occasion.

outrageous pricing, quality is basically sushi that you get at gas stations, i mean seriously, $11.99 for 2 pieces of shrimp tempura and 3 pieces of fried sweet potato? for those who put 5 stars, i implore you to try other sushi places, the bar has been set too low for you guys

Menu offerings were expansive, so quite a while passed before we came to an agreement. A minimum of three different members of staff interrupted us over this duration to question our readiness to order. We turned them away one by one, growing slightly more irritated each time.

Eventually, we settled SC-8, a set which included eighteen pieces of assorted sashimi, nigiri, and maki rolls. The original intent was to share the platter, but its size quickly proved it inadequate. In other words, it was a rip-off.

Thin cuts of warm sashimi is a tremendous pet peeve of mine. Another are fish proteins in midst of disintegrating. The six microscopic units of California Rolls did not contain uniform quantities of filling; some had meager amounts of cucumber and that was the end of it. To top it off, poor compaction procedures had resulted in rice falling apart in both the nigiri and California rolls. Overall, it was a disappointing selection for $25.95.

So a random neon sign advertising SUSHI draws us into this place for an adventure. My son and I like exploring new places to eat. We came in after the lunch rush so the place was rather quiet. The first clue that this was a different place was the bound book that arrived as their menu. We opted for some sashimi rolls and eagerly awaited for the food to come. Shortly our waiter arrived with the drinks and the little bottle of soy sauce. As usual I pour the soy into our little square bowls. It looks somewhat lighter than what we are used to. I dip my chopstick into the soy and am delightfully surprised. The taste is light and fresh with not the usual overbearing salty tones. I have to get more information on this. I flag down the waiter and ask him what brand of soy sauce this is. The waiter replies that they make their own! These guys brew their own soy sauce! It is this kind of detail that would make us come back here again even though it is a 40 minute drive away from our home. The food came and was as exceptional as we were expecting. The cost for the the meal was pretty much on par with any other sushi restaurant but the calibre of the experience was head and shoulders above the rest. If you like sushi and Japanese cooking in general I would definitely suggest you try this place out. This our go to comfort food.

Lunch Experience. Went in a group of 8 during our work lunch hour around 12pm and there was two other tables with customers. The options looked beautiful on the menu even though prices were leaning towards the expensive side as many of my coworkers commented. By the time we left, the restaurant was mostly full so people are frequenting the restaurant.

In terms of service, the cooked food came out first before the sushi rolls. One person received their food after everyone was almost finished and they ordered the chirashi which is various sashimi and rice. It took over an hour to get everyone's dish to the table so service is a little on the slower side. The food however tasted very fresh and the presentation is commendable (favourite was anything involving salmon). We wanted to try the deep fried ice cream ($6.99-large ball of ice cream) but there wasn't enough time.

I would give the place another chance but in a smaller group and without any time constraints. Decor includes a lot of Japanese iconography like katana blades, tea pots, kites and good luck cats. They have a section for large groups that are more zashiki style (sitting on pillows--with a western spin where there are areas to put you legs instead of folding them under you).

Its like God sent down this restaurant!!!! Its amazing and the waitstaff was incredibly friendly food was flavourful and incredibly fresh. Very clean and an amazing atmosphere. have no complaints whatsoever about this location.

The food and service is amazing at koganei but, the waiters need to find somewhere else to stand when they are not serving you. It's almost like they watch you eat and that makes me kinda nervous. Other than that I like it.

Great Sushi in Vaughan. We have visited Koganei several times -the most recent being today. The sushi has always been excellent. A must try is the ginger and garlic whole lobster. The Koganei rice is a generous portion and always fresh. The sushi is fresh, and the service is fast.
Koganei is definitely the best sushi restaurant in Woodbridge.

Indeed the Best Sushi Restaurant North of Steeles. Disclaimer here is that while their sushi and sashimi is incredible, they specialise in rolls, and cooked stuff.

Their variety of rolls is superb, as well as the taste of them; best spicy salmon roll anywhere, best single fish maki anywhere, and the Koganei roll is TRULY something else; absolutely phenomenal.

Gyoza is the best I've ever had, and the onigiri is something special (depending on who makes it; each guy makes it differently, and while the worse ones are far from bad, they pale in comparison to the good ones).

Only gripe really is that it is pricey indeed, however for FRESH, good portion sized JAPANESE (remember; they are a Japanese restaurant, not a simple sushi place) food with an incredibly diverse menu, its more than worth it!

Koganei is the best sushi bar in Vaughan. Nothing comes close. Their presnetation is outstanding. Great service and some of the best sushi I have tasted to date. The koganie roll is to die for. I am still looking for a place to serve a better spicy salmon roll than they do.
Not the most fancy place but it has a very welcoming and traditional feel.
Must try for all sushi enthusiasts.

Service: 5
Food: 5
Atmosphere: 4

RELIABLY DELICIOUS!. Been here dozens of times and it doesn't disappoint. This is my go-to for sushi. The fish in undoubtedly one of the freshest I've tried for sashimi. I've NEVER had bad service (so I'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about) -- even with groups of 10.

The staff here have always been super friendly. They are very attentive and polite and have never forgotten to thank me on my way out.

ONLY RAW. I only eat sashimi when I go for Japanese and this place has never disappointed. My only complaint is that they don't always have everything on the menu. I like the rarer sashimi and seems that I may be the only one?

Food is always good at koganei ... you can tell its fresh however its way to expensive .. we are always two people and our bill is always 80 to 100 even more ..!!! ive never had a problem with the service just the bill!!

If you intend on going with more than two people forget about it. The service at Koganei is horrible. The sushi is great don't get me wrong, but the service has gone down hill in the past 12 months. If you show up with 4-5 people don't expect to eat at the same time. One person will eat within 10-15 minutes, another person will get their food 20 minutes after that and he third person usually gets their food 5-10 minutes after that. By the time the last person gets their food, everyone else has finished eating. That is the absolute definition of pathetic.

Best inexpensive Japanese in the city, hands down.

Koganei is nestled in a rather unsuspecting strip plaza up in Vaughan. There was ongoing construction in the area at the time of our dinner, so we had to drive around it. I am not too sure if the construction has been completed in the area. Like many other sushi restaurants, Koganei offers a large assortment of sushi/sashimi and has an extensive menu. The place was relatively mid-sized with ample seating (booths-styled) and a sushi bar. Deep Fried Oyster ($5.95) - Khaki Fry 6-deep fried breaded fresh oysters w/tonkatsu sauce. This dish came with 6 pieces of deep fried oysters, and it was rather dry to me. Honestly, I think after spending time in Miyajima, Japan (the land of oysters); the cooked ones in Toronto don't do anything for me. I opted for their beef teriyaki bento box ($15.95) as my main dish. The bento box arrived in two individual rectangular pieces. The first box contained steamed rice, stir-fry veggies, and the beef teriyaki. While, the second box contained orange slices,

I tried the Koganei roll after I finished the two handrolls, and quickly realized this restaurant’s obsession of using tempura batter. Each piece of Koganei roll came with a big chunk of tempura batter mixed with some sort of mayo and fish roe. The sushi rice was only mediocre because all the rice looked mushed together. The only thing worth mentioning was the size of the tempura shrimp in the rolls.
