Like every neighbourhood, every workplace has a place you can go when you forget your lunch (or just want something different than leftovers). Well there can be a numerous places to go to dine if you have a vehicle, which I do, but sometimes you need a place you can just walk to that serves more than fast food (aka A & W, Subway, etc). Now, I’m not saying a walked there this time, but I could, if it were a bit warmer.
The Place is clean and the owner is so friendly. I advice everyone to experience coen sushi. The food is so good and the price is reasonable .
I have been to this place three times and it is beyond your imagination. Its one of the best sushi restaurants I've been to. Especially I really like angry sushis. They are spicy but at the same time really addicting.
I loved it. They gave exceptional amount of food compared to other sushi places, and the quality and freshness of sashimi and rolls were amazing. Their price compared to the quantity and quality of food was unbelievable. I loved the service and everything I would add this restaurant to my favourites from now on. Totally recommend this place! 10/10
The owner have just changed a week ago and the place is nothing but a surprise. The quality and the quantity you get out of this store is amazing, with the money you are paying. The chef has 10 years experience and the quality is guaranteed! because of this, there are almost no waiting time. Store is also very clean and great for some quite and quality times. I strongly recommend this place for anyone who's out there looking at this!
Had the teriyaki beef and teriyaki chicken sushi to go. Nice interior, quiet. The food was equal to other sushi places. It's close to home and I will try it again.
I like Coen Sushi, I've eaten here several times and gotten take out once or twice. Usually they aren't very busy even around dinner time so it's nice for a quiet dinner. Last time I was here I tried their spicy udon. The broth was very good! I would get it again. The sushi was also good, a little above average for a sushi restaurant. If you live close by definitely check it out. Good value for the party trays if you're looking to get take out. Not really food related but I liked the photographs on the wall (possibly taken by the owner?) of South Korea & Winnipeg. Nice touch. & the seats are very comfy! :)
lunch bento boxes cheap & good. nice atmosphere and family environment. not licensed. sushi dinner was crisp & fresh, miso soup and salad nice. medium pricey
Great service and amazing sushi! One of my absolute favourites.
Best sushi place A++. This is by far the best sushi restaurant in Wpg. Always a pleasure to eat there. Sushi is delicious, prices are fair, wait time is reasonable and staff are nice and they never screw up the order. If you haven't eaten at this place your missing out. Everything I've ordered is top notch usually get the 5 roll combination with that juicy sushi pizza. Jiro esque. Highly recommended.
This is my favourite sushi place in Winnipeg! The staff are always friendly, never had a order wrong, and the quality of sushi is amazing. I go to coen at least once every couple of weeks. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have been to a lot of other sushi restarunts and this one always comes on top!
Great sushi and service!. Bottom line: Great sushi, service, and prices. Almost never do all three of these come together.
Had the Spicy Tuna Bakudan, Oriental Express, Miso soup, Salmon Sashimi, Vegi Futo Maki and a couple others (I'm terrible for remembering the names). Delicious! Packed with a perfect filling to rice ratio, flavourful, and their special house rolls (i.e. the Oriental) are interesting and tasty. Great quiet atmosphere and fast service. Thoroughly Impressed. I will be back often!
My only sadness, and a very minor one, is that Coen is unlicensed.
Pretty good sushi. Rice is at the right texture and fish is fresh. Great variety in rolls. For the price, you get your bang for your buck. We had dinner for two and got the Coen combination A for 26.95. You get 5 regular rolls and a sushi pizza. Never had it before but it's like a flat fried sushi roll with the fish on top. The five rolls were Yummy roll, unagi tem, kamikaze, scallop tem roll and dynamite rolls. Will be back.
Loved it!!. I work very close to Coen Sushi and we decided to have them do a party pack for lunch. I am so happy we choose this place. Every thing was fresh and tasty. Will defiantly be ordering again and again!!
I work very close to Coen sushi and at one point I was getting lunch from here every week because I would crave there yam tempura roll! It's probably the best I have ever had, just the way they make it is unique. The people working there are always so friendly and have given me free soup with my order plenty of times! It's always very quiet inside & doesn't seem to ever be very busy but I will continue getting my sushi here because its always good & I can always pick it up fresh & warm in 20 mins or less!
***Go here!!!***
Excellent selection and clean!. Love the unique selection of sushi here! The restaurant is modern and clean- service is good- value is good- sushi is delicious and well presented- I've been here 4 or 5 times and plan to go back many more.
Love this joint!. I was here a week or so ago because I wanted to try out a new sushi restau that was inexpensive but delicious. Saw Coen on urbanspoon, checked out their menu & food pictures online, was impressed so I gave it a go. Upon arrival I noticed that we were the only customers, which I have to say is sad because this joint deserves more exposure to the diners of Winnipeg! But on to the food items..
The menu itself is pretty simple and generic with the other sushi places but to say the least they do an acceptional job with these basics, so dont be fooled. Their party platters/combinations are awesome deals & the rolls were yummy-in-my-tummy! I loved that their dynamite roll had crab in it with the shrimp tempura. Also loved their fire roll & snowy roll. I didn't have any complaints with the food in general & service was quiet yet charming. I also liked that the tables were on the bigger scale because it makes it so much more convenient when with a large group of friends (hate it when the table is cramped with food & plates!) Also, decor was nice and modern, another plus.
To be short and simple, I will definitely be heading back over and over and surely recommend this place to others.
Just what we wanted.. It was a cold and rainy Thanksgiving night when myself and friend strolled into Coen Sushi for supper. Typically, we go for 'all-you-can-eat' locations, but I felt like adventuring despite the weather.
Coen Sushi definitely didn't let us down when it came to satisfying our cravings for rolls. The sushi was delicious and fairly priced and the servings of sashimi (that we both loooooooove) were neither too small nor too large.
The tea was also a lovely addition to our meal.
The decor was lovely, and the building is cozy; the photography on the walls is great visual. The service was wonderful, for a holiday Monday evening. However, if we were on a date, we would've preferred a more intimate setting as the tables are fairly wide. Lots of space for the lovely plates and things, but not ideal for cozying and holding hands and whispering sweet nothings across the table while enjoying your favourite things.
Love this joint. Great sushi, and their bento boxes are a great bargain! Decided to take some to my work one day and treat coworkers, and they all raved on how delicious and fresh it was; they thought I had ordered it from one of the more expensive places you find downtown. They have assorted sushi trays which are great to get you sample some rolls you may not have picked before. Their miso soup is okay, and edamame was good. Service is great too! Lovely photos taken by the owner decorate the interior.
Went here with my sister and my cousin, great sushi at a very good price! sashimi was a bit small but still worth it. we got to keep a menu at our table if we wanted more, took it home with me if i want takeout next time. great servers, very polite. simple decor, though the photographs didnt seem to help authenticate the place seeing that this place should be made to be an asian themed restaurant. the music they play i don't understand but my mind was on the food and i had a great time, aside from that, a delight to come back and have some more!
Decent sushi...with some reservations. We are former Vancouver dwellers who have pretty high standards for sushi. We decided to see if it was really possible to pay less than an arm and a leg for sushi in Winnipeg and still have a decent meal. We found Coen Sushi to be totally competent when sticking to the basics, but beware when trying house specialties. We had a California roll, dynamite roll, yummy roll, chopped roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna badukan, vegetable futomaki, and 2 pieces tuna and salmon nigiri, shared among 3 diners, which worked out to $20 each including tip; I'd consider that a more than fair price. All the basic stuff was well done; ingredients were fresh and the tastes were decent, including the nigiri, which is impressive for these prices. What mystified us was the tempura crumbs drizzled all over the outside of rolls, like the tuna badukan and yummy roll, which definitely didn't need it. I'm told this is a strange Winnipeg trend. The whole place smelled like a deep-fryer, which wasn't too appetizing. A great number of menu items involve deep-fried fish and tempura crumbs, so much so that it was difficult to avoid either of these in the huge list of rolls, and both the items we ordered with tempura crumbs did not specify they had tempura crumbs on the menu description. I think this would be a great take-out place if you stick to the basics and try to avoid the deep-fried stuff.
Super deal! Great Sushi. Amazing price, fast, great tasting rolls.
My favorite place for many reasons. Reasonably priced, sushi consistently very good, polite and curteous service, clean and quiet place. Owner seems like a really nice person and has cool photography of wpg, Korea, Japan in his restaurant. Much rather eat here then an overpriced place like Wasabi Sabi.
Good quality, taste, and atmosphere. The sashimi was nicely marbled, thick, and tasty. We were extremely happy about it as it was just as good if not better than many of the other sushi restaurants we had been to.
The maki rolls were equally nicely presented and tasted great. In fact, I think that was one of the best Yam Tempura rolls that I've had, and I always order that no matter where I go. We definitely left there full, but wanting more... and will be back.
Excellent prices and quality. I would highly recommend everyone to check out this new sushi restaurant. It's a smaller space, with about 6 tables for dining in. The quality of the sushi and prices of the food are probably the best I've seen in the city!
The rolls have a thin layer of rice, and are packed with delicious and fresh ingredients.
They have a great selection of bento boxes that are available all day. I ordered a Light Bento on my last visit, and got a miso soup, goma-ae (or edamame), a choice of two maki rolls (I chose Avocado Cucumber and Negitoro) and a California Roll for 7.99!!! I have also ordered with my husband on another occasion their small Party Roll Tray, which consisted of 7 rolls (including your choice of a specialty roll...!) for $32. Communication with the servers can be a touch difficult, but there is a young sushi chef that will often come out to help the servers understand the orders if they are having trouble.
