It's been a while since I've been here. The dimsum is so good. Shrimp dumplings are a must try. They have good food. I'll be back for some more asap.
Dim sum garden is conveniently located on Pembina Highway and in an excellent location for people living in the south end of town! They serve authentic Chinese cuisine and even dim sum during the day which is steamed to order. I like this location because there is also plenty of parking in the lot.
I came here on a Sunday with the family for lunch and was it ever packed! I don't blame them because they have happy hour dim sum from 11:00-3:00 on weekends and most dishes are $2.70! This is an excellent deal and rivals the happy hours offered in Chinatown.
The problem with having lots of business is the restaurant can become quite hectic. Service was slow and the restaurant was super loud. Since the dining room isn't carpeted, noise just bounces around!
Food was good! The dim sum menu is acceptable and covers most items people would expect. I have also been here for dinner and from the selection of Cantonese and Sichuan dishes that I have had, were also good.
This place has good reliable food. Great eggplant, and shrimp dishes. The noodles were spot on and everyone over ordered because leftovers.
Tried this place twice on separate occasions and their dimsun are really good. We usually ordered the shrimp dumplings and their traditional chinese food at affordable price. The service were always fast and friendly during our visits. Would love to try other menus next time.
Whenever we crave Chinese food this is the only option we want, Dim Sum Garden!
The cooks are rock stars in the kitchen!
The staff are very attentive and efficient.
Awesome authentic cuisine that never fails.
Our favourite thing to add to our orders is the Chinese perogies they are always made to perfection with their sweet yet crunchy dough and savoury meat filling mixes with the bite,.. Happiness!
Anything you order there will always be delicious and fresh! I can't recommend this place enough and only happy/sad that we don't live next door!! Peace☮
Great place interior could use some TLC but the dim sum is on spot and the pricing is very friendly. Definitely will be going back to try many other menu items!!
Dim Sum Garden has the best dim sum in Winnipeg. I always come to here. The food was so nice in here. Dim sum is cheap, fresh and delicious. The service is great, they always care for us. Every weekend, I like to take my family come to here. Everyone needs to go during their happy hour.
Food here is good. I always get the seafood dumplings and deluxe pork dumplings. The dumplings are full of flavour and so juicy you can really tell it's freshly steamed. Looove their custard steamed buns as well
This place is my friends and I's go to place when we want Chinese food, especially with their happy hour deal which makes it even more better! Love their dimsums, we already have our group favorites from going there a lot of times! Personally, my favourite is the tofu with shrimp. I love that they're open late, the staff should just be a little bit happier when serving customers.
I think it is the best dim sum in this city. The food is very fresh and the service is excellent. I always go to there and like the shrimp dumplings, Pineapple buns,BBQ pork buns. I like the service here, always make me happy and enjoy the food. Of course, I give a good tips for them :)
There was so excellent in there. I really like the Dim sum here, but I've never try the dishes in there. Yesterday night, The very gentle server gave us some good suggestion for the dishes. Then we choose some dishes, eggplant with shrimp, deep fried shrimp dumplings..... The food was so yummy. I really the sweet sour pork sauce so much. That taste should be little sweet. After that, the waiter help us order my favourite desert, the pineapple buns. I like the place there, the great food and the great serving make me very enjoyable in there. I'll come back soon.lol
I have been here a few times now and it is the same thing every time. Consistency is normally really good in my eyes but I really wish they could pick up their game in a few areas.
Their food is always delicious. Every time. They have a good selection as far as I know (haven't been to many Dim Sum restaurants). Price is very reasonable for the amount of food that you get. I am a big fan of the pork dumplings myself and my wife loves the shrimp dumplings. Those are ordered every time.
The atmosphere is lacking. It is cold and not extremely welcoming. Most times I am there, there are other customers yelling their conversations, playing games or watching videos on their phones at the loudest volume imaginable or the staff is sitting at the large table doing both of these or more instead of serving (more on that coming). I know this is not all the fault of the restaurant but they do not try to stop this behaviour at all. I definitely do not feel like staying around for a beverage or two after the meal is done. It is an eat and go restaurant to me.
The service and staff is really holding this place back in my opinion. They seat you, then scatter. You have to flag them down when you are ready to order or when you need anything from them. Doing this is very difficult considering they are chilling at the table instead of being aware of the customers needs. They often forget a dish even though it is clearly written on the slip of paper they collect. Just bad all around service.
Recommend for cheap, delicious Dim Sum but urge you to go elsewhere if you are expecting much more from them.
Dim Sum Garden was not the first Winnipeg place I had ever tasted the Chinese “snack” of dim sum. That momentous occasion was at the Hong Kong Snack House, many years ago with a good old friend, appropriately from Hong Kong. But the “Garden” in all of its manifestations, first on Rupert Ave. and now on King St. has been the restaurant that I have frequented most often when I get a hankering for these delectable morsels. Dim Sum is an integral part of Chinese cuisine, closely associated with the tradition of yum cha, or “taking tea”. Since I have always been a fan of savoury over sweetness, this custom sure makes sense to me.
Awesome huge food portions! it is worth what you're paying for! Try the sweet and sour pork and dim sum! They also have tasty bbq pork buns!
I really like the Dim Sum food in this Dim Sum Garden. I love shrimp dumplings and deep fried shrimp dumplings so much. I always come this restaurant on weekends. I like the smile. The service is very good.
I always come to dim sum garden, and this is my best place that I come. Yesterday, I was really hungary at night. There was one restaurant that my friends offten talked to me. When I came to dim sum garden, there was a nice person help me order the food. Beacause it was my first time tocome here because I don't know everything about the food in here. I really like the chinese food in here. Lemon chicken was really nice in here. I order many of dim sum here. I can't remember whole dishes name. I remember the steam things and deepfried eggplant was really nice. I really wanna try whole disehes and dimsum here. Bt I was full. I like here. Nice server, very good food.
Not my favourite, but it hit the spot. The steamed rice with spare ribs was delicious. Also, the Tofu with Shrimp (deep fried section)!
Not a fan of the vegetable bean curd rolls - Kum Koon will always be #1
We frequent both locations very often. We've never had a bad experience with both locations. We were always greeted kindly and got our food in the expected time. Overall we have no complaints.
Worst service. They told us they can't accommodate 13 people and have different dimsum menus in order to not have any confusion but they said, "no". Not only that they did not let us know that some of our orders were combined. At the end when my friend and I paid for our meal that were shared, and told them to keep the change. The other server took the ten cents and put it on the table we were all sitting at.
Worse dimsum experience! Rude customer service!
The best Chinese restaurant in Winnipeg. I have been to many restaurants in every province in Canada and many states in the US, this is one of the best I have ever tried. I also feel that this is the best Chinese restaurant in Winnipeg, they have another one in downtown Winnipeg that is equally good. The food flavor is authentic, that's very rare is many Chinese restaurants in North America. This restaurant is located within a huge Chinese community, the restaurant is always very busy. I am confused why this restaurant's rating is low. The food variety is great. However i have to say that the only issue is that service needs to be improved a bit, that may have been why the rating is low. The waitresses tend to have a bit cold-face sometimes. However I heard that the chef was the best in town and scoped from another use-to-be-best restaurant in Winnipeg. They also open very late till 2 am, sometimes open even later because it there were still customers that late! That's how impressing the restaurant is.
Great Tasting Food!. So I've gone to Dim Sum Garden Restaurant every Saturday since March 3, 2012 with 3 other guys. We have been pleased each time we order, marking down the dishes that we have eaten so we know which ones are really good and to order again, and which ones were okay, but worth trying something else. We haven't been let down by any dishes really. All of them have a lot of flavour and the serving size is fairly good. We usually order 4 dishes for 3 of us and 5 dishes for 4 of us. The amount of food is perfect and we all leave nice and full.
The servers are all friendly, even though most of them don't really speak English vert well. It helps to write down the number and name of the food you want, and then they just copy it down (I put it in my smart phone and then they just look at it that way).
The restaurant is quite loud with all of the people usually in it - always full of students eating a great meal for a fantastic price.
The food is always hot, tasty and to our satisfaction. Has become a tradition to go here every Saturday night. I hope you'll go an enjoy this great restaurant.
I went we some friends and we shared 4 dishes. All were tasty, three service was friendly and quick, and the place was packed. Overall, a great experience. Well certainly go back again to try the other 231 dishes on the menu!
Great!. Excellent food, great taste, good presentation. The restaurant is always busy.
While their service definitely has room for improvement, the variety of dim sum options here is dazzling and the flavours authentic. Combine that with an extremely reasonable price, Dim Sum Garden's above average food should please most dim sum lovers.
