Review Sushi Plus - Winnipeg

Mother and I went here in person to place a take out order on a busy Friday night (April 1st). The server Yuxi was kind and also notified us that they were behind so that our order would take a while to prepare. That was understandable. This order was made essentially because on Fridays duding Lent Season (Holy Month) we do not consume meat on Fridays, especially on Good Friday (April 15, 2022). We ordered a couple items that were still delicious and did not aim to order anything extravagant. The total of our order came up to $41.16 which is decent for the items we had. The only con I would say is that we did not so much enjoy the seaweed salad. Everything else however was on point.

Great sushi place, I'm never disappointed.

The wife's favourite spot for sushi. Never a problem with service, quality or accuracy to order. Been going here for years and will for many years more.

Arrived at 6pm on a Thursday. I can understand that it would be a busy time, but the place had 1 person hosting, clearing tables, taking phone orders, handing out online orders and serving. I can see other tables waiting for their orders. Not sure if somebody called in sick, but I hope this isn't a normal occurence. Waited 40 minutes for my daughter's shrimp tempura. Had to ask the server, with his response being "5 more minutes" while he tells the back kitchen to prepare it. Seemed like they were prioritizing door dash and skip orders over dine in customers. Don't recommend for dine in.

Decent prices and portions. The sushi rice tasted bland & it’s texture was a little off which affects quality of the entire roll. I guess you get what you pay for.

Best Sushi I have ever had in town! New management did a great job on food, service and decoration, I like the new finish very much! Jan. 25, 2018 - We had a great night at Sushi Plus again! Wonderful Sushi, Big Love!!

Literally best place to take a someone for a sushi date . Usually.very busy but good service and great price .

Friendly service, busy on a Thursday night after 7 in the summer which is always a good sign. Didn’t smell like stale grease like some of the other sushi restaurants in the area from the tempura. Very reasonable prices. Quality was great. Sweet and sour chicken sauce was awesome, and fried rice was great. Sushi was also great. Will be our new go to spot.

I came here last night with a friend who is on a first name basis with the server. My first time. On first sight I was very impressed. This is a spacious, clean, tastefully decorated little restaurant in a strip mall on north McPhillips. I had checked their menu on this site before I came because I avoid meat/fish. I was impressed that there were many choices to fit my preferences. I ordered #26-Veggie Plus Tofu Tempura, #33-Seaweed Salad, #58-Garden Roll, #111-Cantonese Chow Mein and Green Tea. Everything was beautifully presented, delicious, and served at the proper temperature. The tea was offered regularly. I had some food to take home for today's lunch! <br/>This restaurant is popular for take-out, and there was a steady stream of people waiting to pick up food. <br/>I was very impressed all round, and because there wasn't a lineup for tables, we were able to visit for nearly three hours. I highly recommend this restaurant, and hope to come again with my friend.

Consistently great food. Friendly staff. Always quite quick on take-out deliveries. Never any issues on any of our orders. I feel very good value for price.

Relish in popular chef’s specialty rolls such as the Dragon roll or something more eccentric like the Black Stone roll. You’re sure to savour every bite!

Came here based on a recommendation from a friend who used to work here for 5 years. Wow, it was great. I really enjoyed the variety and way everything was prepared. The tempura veggies and shrimp were great. I'm not sure I left any of the tempura crumbs on my plate... maybe would have licked them up if I was at home. 😜<br/>Bakugan rolls and Chirashi were delicious. For a quick high quality sushi meal, come down and give them a try. Prices are good and service is fast and friendly. Good job Sushi plus!

I had the spring rolls and the spicy pineapple prawns and both were excellent. The service was outstanding as far as fast and super friendly. Pretty big negative was the price, $13 for this prawn dish that isn't very big seems a bit much but it was definitely tasty.

Sushi plus PLUS<br/>We're here at least once a month ordering to go. I have never been to a sushi place that was so quick. I would call and order our usual which is 4-5 rolls and tempura. They say the order will only take 15 minutes and when we get there it's actually ready. The quality of the sushi is pretty good too. So happy it's in our area and satisfies our cravings right away.

good food here. love their japanese fried rice quite pricey though. seems like every 6 months / 1 yr their prices seems to increase. i would come back on a not busy day

The Sushi is really good here and great prices! It's our favorite family treat! We usually order the Thai Shrimp, spicy tuna roll, and a few others. One of our favorite rolls is the TNT.

This place is always a treat for my family.  Must order the Spicy Pineapple special, assorted tempura & California roll.  Very friendly staff.

I had a terrible experience at Sushi Plus.  I was served  a sushi roll covered in Mayo, with mayo all over the plate.  I ate one of the six pieces and couldn't any more of it.  The waitress was very nice and asked me if everything was okay with my sushi and I told her that I couldn't eat it because of all the mayo.  She was great and told me that she would find something else for me and that it wasn't a problem at all.<br/>The manager came out and told me that I had to pay for the sushi roll even if I couldn't eat it and that he wouldn't make me anything else unless I paid for that as well.  The manager was very rude and had very poor customer service.  I will never go to Sushi Place again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Mediocre restaurant. Service is decent, food is decent Portions are a bit small. No complaints, but nothing particularly special about the place.

I've only been here a few times only but whenever I go, I always order their Kimchi fried rice, it's good ^^ not really that authentic korean taste but I still like it<br/><br/>============<br/><br/>Love their Japanese fried rice here!

I only went here as much as I did over the past year due to work reasons. In the Maples, there aren't a lot of choices for sushi. <br/><br/>Their food is OK. Not great, but not really terrible. The price is a bit high for the quality of food you get. There's a lot of rice compared to filling. On some rolls, they use a lot of bread crumbs as filler. Nigiri is okay, but again, too much rice to enjoy the fish unfortunately.<br/><br/>Service is friendly and you get your food quickly. I noticed they have a lot of specials and features.

I LOVE this place. Went last Friday for a late lunch. It has been awhile, but every time I come here I leave happy. Today by myself I ordered the tempura shrimp, tempura vegies, mango roll and the bbq eel roll. So incredibly fresh and yummy. The best!!! The girl working was so sweet and marvelous and everything came fast and hot and it was all incredible. I keep thinking of it since then. Can hardly wait to go again, soon. Great sushi place...

Slimyness!. The Miso soup wasn't as good as I hoped for. Instead I got a mouthful of slimy seaweed! Bleck & the tofu was to soft. Everything else ordered was just ok, the sushi pizza was really good though.

Had takeout on Jan 3/15. Tempura shrimp were good,smoked salmon nigiri was excellent. If you are in the maples or garden city I recommend Sushi plus.

Stingy. Would you like some avocado and crab with your rice? Seriously, the California roll was all rice and mayo. Never coming here again. Asoyama, and Kimchi kick butt!

Very good. First time trying Sushi Plus and I was pleased. It was nice and fresh. Service was quick and courteous. I will go back again! Only thing that sucked was the strange hours... ended up waiting in my car for them to open (around 5 PM).

I wish they would add fish to the bakudan roll. Your can't hide the lack of fish by adding in wet tempura flakes :/.. If you're low on fish please just let me know so I can choose something else instead of charging me full price. The siracha was on point though.;)

They charge you for extra ginger. The first restaurant that charged me for extra ginger but overall my first experience was alright. love the ambiance of this restaurant. server was really friendly and the music they play is very soothing. the food was okay, nothing special. I love how the server told us what kind of sushi roll is on our plate.

Affordable and Tasty. We had a variety of different rolls and were surprised when we got the bill-we thought it would be way more! They have delicious fried tofu with green onion as an appetizer. The service was speedy and friendly, our server took very good care of us and had a lot of knowledge about the rolls.Every roll we had was delicious. We are definitely going to go many more times in the future.

Excellent service! The food is very good. It's always prepared quickly, and the hot dishes (ex: shrimp tempura) are always piping hot and delicious! The only menu item I have disliked there is the BBQ pork appetizer. It was Greasy, fatty, and tough.

Just OK. I don't know how else to describe their rolls other than "just ok." Not the best sushi I've ever had and not the worst either. The service is fanastic though. It wasn't busy and my order was ready in 5 minutes and my tea was topped up constantly. There aren't many other sushi places in this neighbourhood. I might come back if I'm craving sushi and short on time. Try the Special Mushroom and Sushi Plus Rolls.

Good sushi.. I love going here especially because it's by my home. It's nice inside, the service is decent most of the time, and the food for the most part is good. <br/><br/>I think they make the best chicken teriyaki roll. I've tried many places but they just don't taste the way sushi plus makes it. Their sushi pizza I like as well, contains lots of toppings. My brother loves their blue ocean roll, and my mom loves their thick noodles with chicken and veggies like cabbage.. I forgot the name, sorry!<br/><br/>I usually come here for the chicken teriyaki roll only... I guess I should try their specialty rolls soon and compare it to KimChi, <br/><br/>Their green tea ice cream is pretty good - has a tint of vanilla ice cream to it.

Plain & Overpriced. I had poor service at Sushi Plus a couple years ago, but recently decided to try them again since the food had been alright. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. We started off with the yam fries, that came with a dipping sauce, which were very good. They were in between the typical "McCain brand" yam fries and yam tempura. Very tasty. Next, I ordered the seaweed salad, which I'm not overly familiar with, but thought it tasted gross. I am not sure if it is typical of all seaweed salads to have such a raunchy after-taste. I only had a few bites before declaring the rest inedible. My bf ordered his typical non-traditional rolls filled with chicken and beef and found them okay but a bit bland. I was most disappointed with the shrimp roll I ordered, which stated was a roll filled with tempura shrimp and topped with regular shrimp. As you can see from my photo, the portion on this roll was rather small, compared to the large price tag it carries of $12! I especially didn't care for the fact that for the price/size all you received was shrimp in the roll! No special sauces (just a little teriyaki), no lettuce, no avocado, no cucumber, just plain old boring shrimp. For what was received I would have expected to pay around $6-7 tops. I have had better sushi elsewhere (at lower prices) and with all the sushi choices nearby, I am highly unlikely to return.

Great sushi , great price, not a very fancy environment, but it's cheeper and better than most sushi places.

I used to!. I used to think they had the best sushi in Winnipeg but the last two times I've ordered from there they have been sloppy and decided to try it again however I take a bite into my dynamite roll and it tasted a bit dirty that's when I noticed they didn't clean out the poop sac of the shrimp DISGUSTING!

I really enjoy coming here. They are open until a decent time, always friendly and have a wide variety of rolls, rice, combos and have vegetarian options. I love the yam tempura rolls. The vegetable tempura is great to have as an addition too. The staff are wonderful. I don't feel rushed out of the place and it never takes that long until food begins to arrive.

It was good!. It was our first time buying sushi from here. It was actually good. My family and I would definitely come back here.<br/>We ordered Japanese Fried Rice, chicken katsu, teriyaki chicken roll, California roll, and shrimp tempura. = $30; worth it.<br/>Everything was good. the California roll breaks easily though.<br/>But all in all, it was good.

This was my first time giving a sushi place that wasn't in the south end/ downtown a try. <br/>It was an OK experience nothing to special. Took my friend here who had never had sushi in her life plus it's close. We had the dynamite rolls which were good and the beef teriyaki roll- that was meh it tasted bland and overly chewy. Than we had green tea ice cream which tasted TERRIBLE and I've eaten green tea ice cream times before. <br/>The staff are super nice , it's a decent size restaurant clean. <br/>I would go back if this was one of my last options for sushi.

This is the most disappointing place I have ever ordered from. I<br/>Placed an order and got it repeated back to me and they still<br/>Got it incorrect. And when I called back to explain to them they denied everything and expect me to come all the way back there to get the rest of my order. Just disgusting. Take pride in your business.

Great. The sushimi portion szes are very good compared to what i ve seen elsewhere<br/>Rolls were also deleicious and fairly prices

Cheap sushi in the Maples. One of the few sushi restaurants for people who live in the Maples. The quality isn't bad......I find that when the older lady is making the rolls they taste way better. The service is alright, what you should expect for a cheap sushi place. It's not the best but great when you NEED some sushi. Better than sushi train. I have yet to find a place that has their Special Mushroom Roll...I LOVE THAT THING. I avoid the sashimi as it's been subpar for me every time I got it.

Love it!!. I go to Sushi Plus on my lunches alot, they are really fast and have the best sushi ever! They haven't got my order wrong (and I always have a few specific requests). I only waited 5 minutes for my sushi when I ordered as a walk-in. Love this place! =) Girls are really friendly and speak english really well so makes ordering over the phone much faster.

Mystery sushi. My sushi arrived covered in thick brown sauce. It was inedible but the staff argued and bickered with me when I sent it back and said I wouldn't pay for it. They wanted me to allow the kitchen to "scrape the sauce off" and send it back to me. Um, no. Disgusting. I'll never go back.

Nothing special and bad service! Won't go back as younger staff either waited on each other to serve people or blamed one another when we complained

Good sushi but not the best. Friendly service and location are the reasons why I dine here. Pretty small place but there is always an empty table.

The best sushi place on the northside of Winnipeg and one of the best in the city. Reasonable prices and good service. Good portions in their sashimi!

Excellent Sushi!. Sushi Plus is definately one of my favorite places to order sushi. The rolls are a nice size, always fresh tasting and very reasonably priced compared to other sushi restaurants.

Pleasantly surprised !!. Was not sure what to expect as there are not many sushi establishments in Garden City it seems. Came here for dinner after an outing with my Little Sister. We both agreed that the service was exceptionally polite, friendly and attentive. The sushi rolls and sashimi were both done well; rolled nicely with lots of filling and the sashimi was nice sized fresh pieces of tuna. We custom ordered a roll to exclude a couple of ingredients which they accomodated without a problem. Our tea cups were re-filled without us asking which was nice. The only thing that we didn't find the best were the gyoza;we were not overly impressed with their texture or flavour but that was our only complaint !! Would definitely pop in here again when we are in the area !!

Yummy. Good value, selection,flavor. Loved the ginger beef roll- haven't seen that elsewhere!<br/>I will definately be a repeat customer.
