Chinese food is so good. I've been here a couple times, the food is always so good. I will always return for the good food. This place is a must try
Been here many times with family or friends for dim sum or dinners. There was a time just under a decade ago that North Garden was our go to... I must admit, we have come here less often over the years as there is simply so much competition in the south end. Restaurants nearby either specialize in a certain region of Chinese food or simply offer something similar for a lower price.
North Garden certainly offers a diverse menu. They do breakfast specials during the early morning, dim sum and noodles for lunch and have a very extensive dinner menu, they even have late night specials prior to close! North Garden definitely does all of these very well. From a food quality perspective, presentation and size of dish, they receive top marks!
The decor of North Garden is modern and I have found the restaurant in general to be clean. Of all the times going to North Garden, service has never been a problem.
The thing is, there are cheaper restaurants nearby. The parking is also extremely trying at times as there are so few spots. I do believe their quality and extensive menu, along with central location sets them apart. You can’t go wrong giving North Garden a try.
This is the absolute best Chinese food in Winnipeg. They have such a unique menu !! You can have the usual stuff we Canadian seem to order OR have a good look at their menu...some really delicious things to order. Try their braised eggplant ,vegetarian vegetables. Sometimes the delivery is a little slow at peak hours during peak days. Well worth the wait.
This is a northern Chinese restaurant but the dim sum is so good it's probably one of the best in the city. They don't have a large amount of selections but almost everything is so well made. It's rather a small restaurant so be prepared to wait cause it's always busy but it's worth it. The dishes are awesome too if you are looking at dinner items! Great place
Amazing restaurant amazing food. A bit difficult to communicate with the staff if you do not know mandarin. We ordered kung po chicken, chicken house special chow and chicken wings. All of them were delicious.
Food was very good. Really liked the chicken there, recommend you guys trying it. the portions are really big and are really worth it's value
This was my first time at North Garden. It's a really lovely restaurant. It's very clean and nicely furnished. The service was quick. I had the sweet and sour shrimp lunch combo. It comes with fried rice, spring roll, vegetables and consumme soup for $11.95. The portion was way too big for me but it's great value. Everything was tasty too.
This is a place I drive past every day for work and finally decided to stop in and give it a try.
Since it was our first time, we decided to stick with our usual orders to see how everything compared. S&S Chicken balls, Mixed Vegetables, Pan Fried Shanghai Noodles and Deep Fried Squid w/ Pepper Salt. I have to say that everything passed with flying colors. All of the food was delicious and the portions were a great size for the price. My personal measuring stick is the Squid dish which is often over/under spiced, overly greasy or over cooked and rubbery. This Squid was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Easily in my top 2 restaurants for that dish.
The service was fast and friendly. There were not a lot of people there when we were but they made sure that the ones that were there, had what they needed and the food came out very fast.
The atmoshpere in the restaurant was exactly as I had hoped when I thought of going there. They had all of the traditional decorations that you come to expect from a Chinese Restaurant that has been open for a few years. It has the feel of a small, hole-in-the-wall that just keeps pumping out delicious food. I can see why they have a loyal following of people coming back.
I will definitely come back again.
The late night (after 9pm) menu is my favorite from North Garden! Most items come in smaller portions so you get to order a few things to share and try!
My favorite is the salt & pepper tofu and the green beans with ground pork! Both dishes are delicious and flavorful. You can also dim sum at night as well.
And if you spend $20 on the late night menu, you get a free noodles dish! Amazing deal.
North Garden is already my favourite place for dim sum but it affirmed to me that it does sit down Chinese meals expertly as well. The combination of traditional ingredients and techniques make this an easy recommendation for Chinese in the area.
The place looked great. The service was quick, and our orders arrived not too long from the moment we ordered. They had complimentary tea available for us, which they refilled as soon as our tea pot was empty.
The flavours of the food were delicious, and the portion was just right.
Had Dim Sum for the first time today. Service was impeccable and the food delicious. Highlights were the pan fried pork dumplings and sticky rice.Definitely will return.
So so good. Came here with one of my best friends from Winnipeg & got some dim sum it was so good tried the black fungus dish was all right little bit vinegary for me but not bad the pot stickers & dumplings are so good. I am stealing this comment but I am a dumpling fanatic.
Could be better. I used to eat here often but dishes have become inconsistent. Not sure why that is
Not racist. We had lunch at North Garden today (a Sunday). The service was prompt, friendly, and not at all racist. We had Dim Sum and a bowl of hot and sour soup. Everything was very good to excellent with the soup being full of noodles and very thick. The place was packed and the staff were flying. Plenty of Asian customers is always a good sign. I was told of this spot by an Asian friend who said it was the best place for authentic Chinese food. We only had a sampling of the extensive menu, but what we tried was worth going back for. Pleasant surroundings, and bigger than it looks from the outside. Parking also available behind the building.
Went for dinner with another couple on a Sunday evening. Had reservtions, still ended up waiting about 15 minutes for a table. Plenty of menu options, fair prices, and good-sized portions. Service was lack-lustre unfortunately. Waitress did not ask if we wanted drinks aside from water. Had to flag server down for refills, when needed. All of our dishes came out at separate times. But the food was decent, and despite the unattentive service, would consider going back. Maybe just for takeout though, as the dinig area was rather crowded.
The food still good and was expecting a long line to get in on Friday night but it wasn't as busy as it used to be. We ordered the same thing that we usually order and nothing's changed on the quality of the food...still good! I've noticed the price has gone up that perhaps explain why it wasn't busy at all- just a thought.
Service-same as usual not so great.

Mediocre Service. Been here many times and liked the food. The service though isn't that great. The server will make you feel rush and pay after you've finished eating to give way to customer's waiting to be seated. Very busy especially on a Friday.
Great food!. We've visited many times and love the food here! #1 chinese food restaurant in the city, in our opinion. Service could be improved but the food makes up for it.
Huge Chicken Balls. Husband and I went for dim sum. Was expecting a lot more selection of dim sum but found to be more common dishes (egg foo young, lemon chicken etc) which of course there is nothing wrong with. Did not see pork buns on the menu and was disapointed. They were out of almond shrimp which was disapointing as we wanted to compare them to Fortune Cooking restaurants version.
Someone served another table our chicken balls so we ended up having to wait longer for them because they had to re-make them (kudos that they didn't try to give them to us as we saw where they put them in the kitchen). They were worth the wait though because they were huge! And it wasn't all deep fried coating either tons of chicken. For some reason there were a lot of high maintenance people there that night so we did not get good service and we were finished eating before we got our last vermicelli dish. The beef wontons were good as were the dumplings we tried. Glad I tried it there and might order the chicken balls for take out but would not make this a regular stop.
Favourite dim sum spot. I first came here using a group coupon and i'm glad i did
its always busy which is also a good sign for a restaurant
ive been everywhere in winnipeg for dim sum and this is by far my favourite spot in terms of price and taste and quality
there are 3 dim sum deals and sometimes i get all 3
the portion sizes are large and can take some home for a snack later in the day
Dim sum!. The parking here is horrible - a small lot with hardly enough space for all the diners. Awkward parking, too. Staff can be abrupt and make mistakes, but LUNCH COMBINATION A? Oh my! It makes the wait and the service well worth it. Shrimp dumplings, egg rolls, pork dumplings, sticky rice, other dumplings - all for just over $10 plus tax. Quality is excellent and it's a deal!
Yummy Nummies. I was nervous because I was treating some friends and family and had never eaten at North Garden before. If it wasn't good I was going to look bad. Some Chinese teenagers recommended this place to me. We drove all the way from Unicity area. Glad I took the chance. Really good service and really great food.
We ordered 12 dishes. All were very good. The shrimp and scallops were cooked to perfection. I mean like melt in your mouth. The crispy ginger beef was terrific. Lemon chicken-just the way I like it. Sweet and sour pork-yummy in my tummy. Shrimp with vegetables and cashews fantastic. Egg foo Young, Cantonese noodles, Pan fried Shanghai noodles, Beef with black bean and garlic, Kung Po chicken, Honey garlic breaded veal and on and on......
I know where I'm going for my next Chinese food meal.
Love It!. I've been in the restaurant to eat and ordered out from here, and the food has always been delicious!! I find the service exceptional, very fast and eager to cater to your needs. The food comes very fast after ordering and it's always so good. My favourites are the pan fried dumplings, hot and sour soup, stir fry with extra thick noodles, and many more I can't even remember! The only issue with eating in is that their english isn't the best, but with everything numbered it's not much of an issue in my opinion!
My new favourite dimsum. I used to be going to Winnipeg downtown for dimsum until I found this place. My favourites for lunch (to share between 2 person) are: Dimsum combo no 2, Chinese donuts no 24, & congee. It is great food for the price. I cannot wait to come back again.
Good stuff. This is a pretty good restaurant and the dim sum is actually some of the best I've ever had (although selection is limited).
They do one of my favourite dishes of all time here - Shrimp fried with chillies and garlic with the heads on - mmm, love sucking the goo out of the heads. Unfortunately I don't know what it's called as my friend orders it in Mandarin, so I'm not sure if it's on the English menu or not.
Dim Sum!. I only go here for Dim Sum during the day. The one time I decided to go for Dim Sum here during late night, my boyfriend ended up getting food poisoning. :S But it was weird because my brother, my dad and I didn't? Anywho, sometimes there Dim Sum is on the greasy side, the service is pretty slow, but I like going here better than Kum Koon now because I don't have to wait for the carts to come around (which takes FOREVER always). Only dim sum, only during the day.
North Garden restaurant, specializing in Szechuan cuisine, has long been a favourite of mine. However, for one reason or another I’ve never written it up. The last week, I’ve enjoyed food from North Garden twice. One was takeout and one was dine in. Fortunately, the food in each case was equally good.
The food we ordered was really good. Prices are great for the quantity and quality. Will be back here as quickly and frequently as possible.
Food is great; staffs friendly. They are more on northern style chinese dishes than southern style, that means more spicy taste and more on pasta.
Hello! We went to try the minced pork and eggplant, fried pork chops and onion and sliced beef in chili oil and it was honestly very good. Service was decent as well. I'd recommend more people to go there as their quality is definitely higher than a 3.5 star!
Ate here 20 years ago when I was a student. Ate here 20 years after, and fond memories came rushing back. Thank you for surviving difficult times and delivering memories. Crispy ginger beef remains an old favorite dish!
