Discovered this place earlier this year. Tried dining in but place is always too loud for my liking. So I just phone and pick up and eat at home. My favourite is their Mushroom Egg Fooyong. Very tasty. Just with rice and I'm solve.

I used to go to Idol across the street at plaza back in 2014 before they changed the menu for my favourite dish - crispy ginger beef. But once the new menu came out, they got rid of most of the items including ginger beef. Then I tried this place. The food is good but the restaurant doesn't look all that appealing.
Food - 4/5 (Good bang for your buck and the crispy ginger beef was very good!)
Service - 3/5 (Service is quick but I was waiting at the front door for 10 mins wondering if I should seat myself or wait for the hostess)
Restaurant - 3/5 (Don't expect to see anything too fancy)

Best Ginger Beef EVER!!!!!!!!
Used a show and save coupon, might as well for first visit! Food was amazing! The ginger beef sauce was actually "spicy" with ginger! You could tell it was made from scratch! Also had tofu/veg and Kung Bo chicken, and wonton soup, all were good. Meal included white rice, great value in all! Waitresses polite and helpful, but interior was a little lack-luster.
Will definitely return.

I was in the area doing some errands and decided to tried their lunch buffet. The buffet menu has a wide selections and it was really good. The fried chicken, sweet sour pork, chicken meatballs and mixed fresh vegetables were all delicious, not to mention the wanton soup. Try this place and come hungry.

I went here in a group of 8. The place looked decent with a Chinese feel to it. The waiter and cashier were friendly. The menu had plenty of choice, but I seem to find it difficult to choose when there are too many choices to choose from. Only a few had pictures to compliment the meal stated on the menu. We ordered 7 dishes plus a large bowl of soup.

The soup arrived first, it was delightful. Red Vinegar was available and my Chinese friend recommended I try it with my soup. It made it taste better. I can not recall the names of all the dishes but the pecking pork ( if I'm not to be mistaken) was amazing. The beef with jalapeño chilli was also favourite of mine. The 7 dishes was enough to make us all full and satisfied. Over all the flavours and satisfaction was great. We each only had to pay around 12 dollar each which was a great price, to be able to try plenty of dishes.

Overall Summer Palace Chinese Restaurant offers authentic high quality Chinese cuisine. The wealth of menu options will mean that everyone will find something they enjoy. Despite being on the saltier and greasier side, the flavours were well thought out and strong enough to overcome the heavy handed seasoning. Definitely worth a visit.

The best Chinese restaurant that I've been to.. I love the food and the generous portion sizes that they offer. I've never had a bad or even average meal here. It really does taste different from other Chinese places. I can't quite describe how the taste if different, but it just is and in a good way.

Decent Chinese Food. The Fried Ho Fan Singapore Style was a bit of a disappointment with the noodles having a slightly mushy texture and lacking the flavors characteristic of 'Singapore-style' dishes at other Chinese restaurants in Winnipeg. I will not be ordering this dish again.

The Beef in Black bean sauce was flavorful and had a good proportion of meat to vegetables. The meat was tender and delicious. I found it to be comparable to its counterparts at other Chinese restaurants in Winnipeg so I will likely order this again.

Deep Fried Squid with Spicy Pepper Salt was flavorful but oily to the point that the crispy texture of the fried squid was lost. Despite this dish being delicious, there are better versions of it at other Chinese restaurants in Winnipeg.

Downhome mainland chinese food. Finally, a place serving home cooked chinese food and not afraid to use spices. This place has some of the best chinese food I've tasted in the city. Shredded veal with cilantro and peanuts, fish fillet in spicy hot broth, hotpot with tofu, bbq pork, and greens. And yummy casseroles. Not many westernized dishes where your meat is battered, deep fried, and sauced to oblivion.

Inconsistent. I've been here a handful of times, and at first I really liked them. They have good taiwanese dishes: My favorites being the Three Cups Chicken and the Stir Fry Mushroom with Green beans.
The last few times we went I was a little disappointed though, because the dishes did not taste consistent. The Three Cup Chicken, which is a dish that is supposedly made with: 1 cup ea. of sesame oil, soya sauce and cooking wine, tasted spicy, like one of the cups were a cup of chili oil. Now, I am not pansy when it comes to hot foods, but my dining companions were not as used to spicy foods and this dish came as a surprise to them and me (who described it as a non-spicy dish). Also usually it is cooked with thai basil, which is the crown of the dish, there weren't any in it this time.
A second problem was that they were out of a few dishes we wanted. Granted it was a 'holiday' so it was not surprising, but when we wanted water since it was so busy we just ask for a whole jug and we can help ourselves, they were even reluctant as they only have 4 jugs in the whole restaurant. This place has more than 4 tables.
Food has gotten really oily too recently.
Service doesn't always understand due to language barrier. Prices are reasonable with most dishes $10 or lower, with a few above $10.
I would still give this place a chance. But they really need to stay consistent in their signature dishes.

As I sit here adjusting the waistband of my jeans, it's an appropriate time to review the experience. The service was excellent, and our very enthusiastic waitress suggested a veggie dish that wasn't on the menu. I'm a huge noodle fan, and am on a quest to find the best Singapore style noodles in town. I believe my quest is over! They were perfectly spiced, beautifully colored, with a magnificent aroma. The Szechuan pork, chicken fried rice, and stir fried green beans with pork and garlic (the non-menu suggestion) were all delicious. We both agree that a return trip is a no brainer. Two enthusiastic chopsticks up!

Authentic. There's lots of Chinese food restaurants around the city so it's hard to find a good one. Summer Palace is located in a strip mall off Pembina Hwy, same mall as the Value Village.

The decor is a little dated but nice enough to dine in. Service is friendly although there was some confusion due to some communication issues but otherwise, the order was accurate and food was great even as take out.

Most chicken and beef dishes are around $9.95-$10.95 and seafood dishes are about $12.95. And the portions are generous.

We ordered quite a few dishes but one of the best is the the crispy spring chicken with green onion and ginger sauce #28 ($9.95). It's a half chicken on the bone that's perfectly crisp skin and moist chicken meat with lots of sliced green onions sitting in a well balanced ginger soy sauce.

Tried the "3 cup chicken", which isn't listed on the English menu, it's a traditional Taiwanese dish. It comes with white and dark chicken meat cut up with some still on the bone in a very strong sauce - mostly rice wine, soy sauce and garlic. I found the rice wine to be too intense for my tastes.

I liked the Shanghai noodles #138 ($9.95) - it included slices of char siu (bbq pork) and shrimp. It wasn't too greasy and wasn't too salty.

The assorted meat casserole #100 ($13.95) is really a stew of shrimp, squid, chicken, pork and Chinese mushrooms with tofu. It has a great consistency and taste to it.

Also enjoyed the shrimp with Chinese broccoli dish #65 ($12.95) - the shrimp were cooked perfectly and there were plenty of greens in this dish.

Maybe the most authentic and best chinese food i've ever had in winnipeg. Most menu items are on the spicy side and has a sichuan feel. Each dish is around 11-16$ and of a fairly big portion. Would recommend to anyone looking to try some authentic chinese spicy dishes!
