Exceptionally hospitable owners/staff... My boyfriend and I originally dined at Dad's for the Trivial Pursuit cards at every table. We continue to visit for the variety of pretty tasty food (staple sandwiches and burgers, as well as Korean food we have yet to try), but mostly the above and beyond wait staff.
Dad's Family Restaurant is truly an enigma in the restaurant scene: a retrofitted fastfood joint taken on by a Korean family who strives to serve both breakfast/brunch favourites AND their native Korean specialties. While there are much better Korean restaurants in Winnipeg, one cannot beat the combination of well priced and reasonably large meals, even if the overall taste is average.
Wonderful!!!. Been here a few times, love their breakfast. The service is great also. Seems like Sunday is the busiest day, so the wait may be a tad bit long, but it is worth it! Fresh ground coffee is also a plus.
Clubhouse For Days. This place is fantastic. The quaint dinner area and sounds of the kitchen really make this place feel homey. Food is all extremely well priced and the portions are huge. Staff is friendly and recognizes customers at first glance.
Try the clubhouse or Bulls Eye burger for a party in your mouth. Bon Appetit!!
Good breakfast, kind service. I will defiantly be back.
Went for Korean Food. When we went, there were ONLY asian folks which is indicative that their asian food selection is what's attracting customers for dinner- the Spicy Seafood soup with noodles is DELICIOUS- hugh bowl for about $12, decent amount of seafood (a couple shrimps & mussels- not a lot, but enough for the price) LOTS of nicely textured noodles, LOT of delicious soup that is flavourful & SPICY - authentically spicy so don't complain if you are wimpy. You will be quite full and satisfied on a cold winter's night with this bowl of spicy soup noodles!
The pork cutlet is also VERY generously sized, not too greasy, very crispy and seasoned nicely. They didn't have the hotdog flower garnish the 2nd time we tried ordering. Wish there was more rice & better veggies (only the frozen peas/carrots/corn variety... hohum...) and the salad was kind of gross with ketchup and mayoniase drizzle overtop as the dressing. They could've just left this part out...
Apparent the JaJiang noodles are one of the most authentic versions in Winnipeg. It's all about noodles texture and this place almost has it as good as in Korea.
Only wish is more side dishes (you get yellow picked turnips only) and more Korean food selection. (there's also ramen, ramen with cheese, some sweet and sour pork /chicken dish... not too much more Korean dishes to choose from)
They do a decent job with the Korean food that we've tried. We would go back more often if they had more Korean dishes. We wouldn't make the trip for the "Canadian Food"
Korean comfort food, too.. I tried some of the Korean dishes here the other day ( I think the restaurant transferred ownership to some Korean people a while ago). They have 돈까스(deep fried pork cutlet), 양념 치킨 (fried chicken with spicy sauce), 짬뽕 (spicy seafood noodle soup), 탕수육(sweet and sour pork), 짜장면 (stir fried noodles with Chinese bean sauce) and ramyeon. They're dishes that aren't necessarily Korean per se, but have been adapted to the Korean palate.
It was by no means gourmet. For example, the cutlet was served with some shrivelled up, previously frozen vegetables, and shredded lettuce with squirts of mayo and ketchup on it. So if you're not accustomed to hanging out in hole-in-the-wall Korean fast food dives in Seoul, you might be disappointed.
However, if you're someone who knows what it means to have a sudden craving for 辛 ramyeon in the middle of the night, and the exact same ramyeon that you have in your cupboard at home just won't cut it….then you'll like it here. They've also kept the "Canadian menu". So if hamburgers are more suitable to satiate your cravings, they've got that too.
If you want home cooking that reminds you of gram's, this is the place for you!
Excellent service and good food
Highly recommend everyone to try and support their business. As other reviewers have mentioned the storefront looks like a mini convenience store but don’t be fooled . I especially was impressed by the professionalism of the young male receptionist . 5 stars for all. Thank you ☺️
The restaurant I keep visiting.
Great quality Korean foods. Also, the owner is very friendly. She always made us could be satisfied with the service.
We went on a Thursday evening and there was only one other table of customers, so service was really fast. The server was also very friendly! For some reason they only had the Korean menu available, which I was totally fine with (my husband was a little disappointed, but after he tried the Korean food he was not). We ordered the black bean sauce noodles and fried chicken. I've seen some Kdramas and the fried chicken always looks amazing, so I wanted to try it. It did not disappoint! I've had Red Foot and wasn't a fan (we got it delivered so maybe it just wasn't fresh) but here it was sooo crispy, fresh, and delicious! It's a bit pricy but worth it. We didn't know what to expect from the noodle dish (I ordered it based on reviews here) and it was also very tasty. The meal came with a little bit of pickled daikon and some bean sprouts with sesame oil. We had the original boneless chicken which came with honey mustard and a super tasty sweet and spicy sauce. Overall I will 100% be coming back! Highly recommend!
Very authentic korean food. Large portion of food. Menu is slightly different from Doordash though. Cheese flavour fired chicken is so good.
We ordered garlic chicken and bulgogi.
Very delicious both of them.
If you want to try Korean food, would highly recommended to visit here!
This place is the best Korean restaurant in Canada! My friends and I enjoyed it a lot! Thank you so much:)
Like the cheese seasoning chicken. It’s very crispy and delicious. The tofu in soup is also great.
Amazing food. This was my first time having Dad's food, and was very impressed with the quality of the dishes! We had the special black bean x2, and the half and half fried chicken. Easily the best-fried chicken I've had in Winnipeg.
