Review Gangnam Sushi - Winnipeg

LG Go
I love this place so much, their sushi are fresh and tempuras are the best. Amazing portion, great price, quick service and delicious. I wish I could go here someday (I'm not familiar in this area/I have no car), but I'm glad they can be reached on my skipthedishes app. Always thank you for the meals!

So far the most affordable sushi place I’ve found in Winnipeg! Portions are big and the sushi taste good.

Absolutely 💯 amazing hidden gem! Great service and even better food! Would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat

Best sushi place I’ve ever taken out from. Gave a free sushi pizza that was one of the best I’ve ever eaten in the city. Big and delicious rolls. Very generous and filling. 11/10

Really nice that they gave us free sushi pizza. Great sushi reasonable price.

5 stars! I eat a lot of sushi and it was my first time trying this place and it was so good, definitely will be ordering from there everytime I have sushi. amazing staff too! They were so nice and got my order perfect!

The best sushi I’ve tried in Winnipeg! LITERALLY. And the price is awesome! I always order from there and they never disappoint. Great amount of fillings and thick fish, huge portions for just 5$. Edit: Something has changed. I think they must have got a new cook or something. They added more items, but rolls became anlittle messier and a little bit more expensive. I liked the old ones better. :(

Rolls were very good in comparison to my last review. I ordered a tnt, California, half dynamite and spicy tuna. (I did not get the deal with the yam roll because I don't really like yam rolls much). I was only disappointed that no sushi pizza came with my order even though my purchase was over 30. Did this promotion end? Also, would really like to see unagi back on the menu on skip the dishes as eel is one of my favorites. I tried emailing a long time ago and never got a response. Either way everything was fresh and delicious even though skip was having driving issues, I'm still a fan and will be back

I used to be addicted to this place because they were quick, friendly and affordable for lunch. Then they got new owners... and they went from having at $8 amazing lunch special to $13. Not good. Owners are nice, but it doesn't make up for everything being at least $3-$5 more on your menu. Might as well go somewhere else now 😞 Too expensive. Plus the new decor is not pleasing to the eye and it's super dark. The one time I ate in, I could barely see my food. They ruined it.

The place itself is ok. I prefer to order through skipthedishes. Sushi is overall good! A lot of flavor. For the spicy rolls they over do the sauce but a lot of meat and not too much rice! Their combo rolls are worth the $$. Recommend ordering through skipthedishes since they give free sushi pizza with an order of $15 or more! :)

Made a small order through skipthedishes a few weeks ago, and I have to say we finally found our new go-to restaurant when it comes to having sushi delivered.

We only ordered maybe three basic rolls, four tops, and they were kind and generous enough to hook it up with a complementary soup, salad AND canned drink alongside a cute note. The food itself was so much better than I thought it would be. Had little expectations when it came to the quality considering the prices but everything tasted fresh, exactly the way it's supposed to. Plus the food all held up during the delivery.

3.5 star rating since we obviously haven't been to the restaurant itself, but we will definitely be ordering again.

Interesting decor the place is not huge but entertains with character and trinkets from all around the world.

Sever was attentive and fast and food preparation was quick for a lunch time rush. Tea was served as soon as we sat down to look at the menu. We were served miso soup and a delicious salad which I wasn't aware was included with the meal and certainly appreciated the complimentary.

I ordered bibimbap and sushi rolls and my companion had a lunch box everything was tasty. Price is cheap in my opinion for the quality. See you again!

Surprised with soup and salad with my takeout order! Impress with the food for sure! Very friendly people too. Interesting decor, it's if little gimmicks

I coerced two of my coworkers to join me for lunch at Gangnam as we enjoy trying new places in our area. Initially we were nervous due to the older exterior of the restaurant, however, the interior was quite lovely and the service was phenomenal. Our server was so kind and helpful. The meal started off with complimentary tea and our order was on our table within ten minutes. The food appeared colorful, fresh, and was unspeakably delicious. After raving about our meal at the office, we will definitely be returning with an entourage to try the remainder of the menu.

I came across gangnam sushi by chance and decided to give it a chance. Although in an area that is known to be rough around the edges, gangnam sushi is quite the opposite.
The decor in the restaurant is memorizing comprising hundreds of statues, ornamental findings and trinkets. The restaurant is warm, inviting and cozy.
The service was superb (which is often found at small local fares). The waitress and chef were polite, attentive and knowledgeable.
My food was served quickly and beautifully. The food was fresh, carefully prepared and extremely reasonably priced. From a salad and miso soup appetizer to a scoop of ice cream for desert after some sushi, sashimi and a cone (I got a combo) I was very satisfied.
I will defiantly be returning and would strongly recommend gangnam to family and friends.

Their tempura has too much batter. All my food was barely warm when served to me. Their roll options aren't very creative. I tried the place twice and both times were meh. I will not be going back.

A couple of my friends and I decided to try Gangnam Sushi out one night and were first welcomed by a quaint little house styled restaurant composed of only 5 tables. We thought what a cute small restaurant. A young waiter had us sit at a far table and I wish we could say that we were well hosted, but that would be a sad lie.

First of all, the moment we sat down beside each other around a round table, he had my friend move from her seat to sit away with us. We were slightly taken aback that he had her move. I suppose it was so he could walk between the tightly cramped tables, so we made do with rearranging the seats ourselves. We took a quick look at the menu and after realizing we weren't extremely hungry, we decided to split one of the dinner boxes, I mean, the picture and description showed a lot of food so it seemed ideal for sharing. Upon ordering said dinner box for the three of us, the waiter gave us a questionable stare repeating "One box for three people?". We reiterated that yes, we we wanted just the one box and that we would keep one menu and decide whether we would order more later. He walked off. Quickly enough, he returned to our table and stated that we were not allowed to order just one box and share between three people. Each person had to order their own dish...Now, never in my life have I encountered such an outrageous statement. We could have ordered 3 separate rolls ($3 each) and it would have been cheaper than us ordering the one box. Due to the sheer idiocy of it, we were shocked into silence and we were so tempted to walk away after hearing this. We stayed just to see if the food could make up for his insincerity. IT didnt. The entire meal was tainted by his rude ass statement.

Food was a 2/5, but based on the staff, I can't say we'll be returning or recommending it to other friends. There are much tastier sushi places in the area with waiters who don't impose such stupid demands.

Is this place better than other high-end sushi places in Winnipeg? Hell no. The prices are dirt cheap, so I adjust that in my head when it comes to reviewing this place. For the price you pay, and for how much you get, this place is pretty damn good.

It's a small family owned restaurant on Selkirk. I think it's probably the only sushi and Korean restaurant in the area.

The inside of the restaurant is small and cramped. Do not bring a big party to eat here. The inside of this restaurant is very kitschy and a feast for the eyes, reminds me of my grandmother's house but in a good way. There is no coherence to the decor here, which adds to the charm!

Their combos are about $11 and it includes a roll, a noodle dish, some tempura, and some nigiri depending on what you take. Nigiri is smaller than what they used to serve, but still good. Rolls are one-note depending on what you get, but it's filling and hits the sushi craving just right.

Each meal comes with a miso soup and dessert - we've gotten fruit or ice cream, depending on what the owner decides.

They serve some select Korean dishes. Their potato salad is very good if you get the chance to taste that side dish!

Daebak!!!. I wen to ywg to visit my brother and my uncle brought us to this restaurant. It is just a small restaurant but the food they serve. DAEBAK!!!! It was sooo good. And though it was just a mom and son tandem (mom is the cook and the son is the server) everything was so perfect. Hope to comeback again next time.

Great Food, Great Service, Great Experience, Great Price!. WOW!! Really went the extra mile in service! Went with my family, and the service was very accommodating, and the food was really good! Also, was extremely reasonably priced! With a family of 5, we came out paying only $42.

The best!!!!. The prices are very fair, all the Korean dishes and sushi was delicious! You get sides that comes with the meal and ice cream at the end!
The service was really great as well!

Sorry to say.... Having heard nothing but good things from all other reviewers, I decided this place was a must try. I love sushi and was looking forward to the treats in store. My experience left me less than pleased and more than a little confused.

Myself and 3 dining companions went in and we ordered a large variety of things; 1 beef dinner box ($11), 1 chicken dinner box ($11), 2 avocado rolls ($3 ea), 2 yam rolls ($3 ea), 1 volcano roll ($8), and 1 dynamite roll ($8) which all came to about $56 total with tax. To begin with, they gave us more than expected and the four of us could not finish what we had and we could have easily fed another 2-4 people, so the value on quantity is good.

The dinner boxes all came with one roll, sweet potato, regular potato, and one piece of shrimp tempura, a small salad, a spring roll, a gyoza, some rice, glass noodles, miso soup, 2 pieces of 'sushi', and, of course, the meat of choice. The best part was the roll. The tempura was undercooked and the potatoes were crunchy, the spring roll and gyoza were ok but tastes somewhat like they may have been purchased from Costco. The glass noodles were a good texture but the flavour was very odd and the rice was just plain rice. Good value, but only on quantity.

The avocado in the avo rolls was less than ripe and it was rather hard, no real complaints with the yam rolls. The volcano roll was somewhat flavourless and the dynamite was actually kind of bad with an overwhelming amount of cucumber. The sushi was the thinnest slice of salmon I'd ever seen on the tiniest rice cushion and it tastes less than fresh. The soup was good.

Overall, I was disappointed and would not go again unless to try to Korean cuisine which I would like to do. If you want the best sushi in Winnipeg, I hold to that Sushi N on St. Anne's is the place to go.

5/10 for sushi - Korean review to come

**Edit for June 4th ** Due to my close proximity to the place on a regular basis, I popped in to try the avocado and yam rolls for a quick snack again. Avocado rolls seem to vary widely each time but the yam rolls are generally pretty tasty. Small rolls but decent price. It's not my first choice by far, I still stick to the 5/10, but if you're nearby, it's not the worst for a craving.

Amazing! I love Korean food and this has real authentic flavour and all the little buncha (side dishes) famous of Korean restaurants. Even came with dessert!

BEST RESTAURANT IN THE CITY! Ordered the lunch special. Very cheap with lotsa food! Can't even finished it! The servers are great and very friendly! Food taste sensational

Delicious, affordable, great service, great atmosphere, this place is a winner!. After reading some reviews on this site, I decided to give this place a try with my family tonight. When we were walking towards the restaurant.. I had almost turned around and decide to go elsewhere. It's outer appearance looks like a beat up old building that used to be a corner store. The door is caged up and there is nothing but a cheap sign that advertises the name of the restaurant. Definitely ghetto and has a sketched out feeling to it. We ended up giving the place a chance and I do not regret it at all. All the reviews were spot on regarding the food and service. Never judge a book by its cover!

The decor was super cute! There is a cozy and homey feel to it. The food portions were huge and our meals came with free tea, soup, salad and ice cream for dessert! Definitely going to be back. I hope this place can stay and prosper despite the bad location!

Awesum flavours !!. Tho I've never been a big fan of sushi that all changed last night. My wife does love sushi and usually gets her fix with co-workers with the occasional lunch treat.
I've been converted now that I've had the "real deal"!! From start to finish our meal was outstanding and I can't wait to return. I might even treat myself to lunch one day this week but please don't tell my wife. I highly doubt she'd believe you anyway lol.
Honestly tho, the service & the food IS that good.

Great service!! Definitely a gem! Great dinner boxes and free salad and soup. Ice cream was served after the meal and great prices if you don't wanna break the bank. Definitely try it out it's worth the trip. Great food try the Korean BBQ beef!

Excellent and CHEAP food!! Must try!!. This place is so kitschy-cute, and the server was awesome: kind and attentive. However, I worry that they will go out of business because they serve so much food for such low prices. For $12, I got 12 pieces of (good fresh) sushi, a california roll, a salad, soup, and noodles (japchae). For only $11, my husband got a huge platter of food with kalbi ribs, tempura, the best egg roll either of us has ever tasted (we eat Asian a lot), the aforementioned noodles, california roll, salmon nigiri, rice, soup, salad, and excellent veggie gyoza. We live in Osborne Village, and no sushi place is on par there (Yujiros is in another neighborhood). Please visit if you like Korean/Japanese so that this place stays open!!!

North End Gem. Tonight was the second time that I visited this restaurant, and I was so impressed - again - that I had to write a review this time. The service is attentive, the food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The chef sent out a complimentary tasting plate, and soup, salad, and tea were included with the meal. This restauant is a must try for sushi lovers! On my next visit I will be exploring the Korean part of the menu :)

Food that makes you smile. My girlfriend and I went for Dinner at Gangnam tonight and I was blown away. The prices are extremely reasonable, the decor, although highly eclectic makes for a homey feel. The staff is ridiculously accommodating and the Chef enjoys sending sudden random tasting dishes to your table. For less than we would pay for 2 entrees at most restaurants we had a small soup, small salad, a Chicken Dinner box with 5 items and a spicy Tuna roll. The Chef surprised us with a small spicy salmon creation that isn't on the menu and to top it all off we were given a small bowl of Neopolitan ice cream each to cleanse our palates after we finished our meal. Oh, and the tea is complimentary as well. The restaurant is very small, seating less than 30 so if they didn't so rightly deserve it I would have kept this gem all to myself. But they do...so go there....now.

The amazing reviews are accurate. Tiny, funky place. Great portions/prices on seriously well crafted sushi and sashimi. Service is genuine and helpful. Can't recommend this eatery enough.

Definitely coming back!. Eight of us came here for work during the lunch day. The food was amazing and ready very quickly considering there were only two staff. I guess the staff thought the food was slow, because they brought us 3 free rolls and some free noodles to apologize!

This is definitely a gem of a place and we will definitely be coming back!

Awesome. The food servings were huge and delicious. We had free salad, soup and green tea which is like 10 dollars worth already on other restaurants!! Everything is great and i especially love the sushi rolls. Definitely coming back again.

Great place!. Love this place; I've been looking for a good sushi place in the North End/Luxton area. It's such a gem...Friendly staff and great food at a great price.
Kay
So nice!. Everything was great! And you get so much, for what you pay for. I wasn't expecting soup, salad and dessert to be included in my order. Plus, it is worth going here just to step inside and see the decor. Seriously!

So much food for so little money!. My friend and I decided to eat here 'cause we were too lazy to cook, and it's really close to where we live. We were pretty skeptical, because the exterior is really ominous (no windows).

Inside the decor is eclectic. Don't let it frighten you. It's a bit like eating in a friend's living room. You can pass the time looking at all the interesting knick-nacks, or playing I-spy. The food is great. While the green tea could've been hotter, it was tasty. I had the sushi box dinner (There are many box dinners to choose from, in addition to entrees). It came with soup (great), salad (awesome apple-dressing), noodles, tempura, 8 nigiri rolls (tuna, salmon, shrimp, and some sort of white-fish), and a special roll. I picked the dynamite roll.
My friend ordered the Z-roll box, which was vegetarian (and came with 24 rolls, soup, and salad).
Sometimes, when you go for sushi, it's subpar; the fish is chewy and not-fresh. That is NOT the case here. The fish was really fresh and well prepared. We were very pleasantly surprised.

The chef also came and offered us a new creation, a cucumber cream cheese and mango roll. I hope that's added to the menu, 'cause it was fantastic!

The whole meal for the two of us, including tip was less than $15 a person, and there was far more food than we could finish. We will definitely go here again, next time we're gonna try the korean stuff on the menu.

Reminded me of Japan. They are very nice people with unlimited food. It's very
Nice on the inside.

Awesome little gem in the north end, super friendly, excellent service and presentation. Very reasonable prices. I wouldn't hesitate to eat there again

Overall Gangnam Sushi came as a surprise to me. With no expectations coming in, I left full and satisfied. Located in a part of town that needs a bit of re-vitalizing, having restaurants like Gangnam Sushi should go a long way to bringing up the area's popularity.
