Amazing thai food! One of my favorite restaurants in Wpg for its consistency and vibrant flavors.
I started coming here regularly since one of my original go-to thai restaurants let their ego take over their business, and thanks to that I discovered Shaba thai :D
Shaba Thai is one of the most inconspicuous restaurants on Portage Avenue. Located at 561 Portage Avenue, just down from the University of Winnipeg. It only seats about 10 people. There have been other restaurants in the location but none of them seemed to promise anything remotely promising. If they didn’t put signs out on the street you would likely walk by without a second glance. Fortunately they did put signs out on the street and I was curious enough that I decided to go in.
Shaba Thai is a place that will have you coming back for more, it’s that good.
I have enjoyed it immensely, if you are a U of W student do yourself a favour and go here and bring your friends, the portions are a very good size.
Very authentic and the owner is very nice and makes you feel welcome.
My family and I had a great meal here. The food arrived very quickly and still cooked perfectly, the owner was so kind to us. I appreciated how she offered to make different dishes vegetarian even if the menu did not specify it. Portions were very big so next time I might bring my own container!
Best Authentic Thai food in town! 10/10. Will come back! Friendly amazing staff! They even chased us after leaving the restaurant just to give me my free dessert when they realized it’s my birthday!!
Favorite Thai takeout place! Flavours are always consistent. However I’ve noticed, portions are relatively larger when ordering through skip, rather than phoning to pick up.
Great food with good sized portions. Green and red curries, pad Thai and pineapple fried rice were awesome! Their coconut rice is so good too!
Ordered take out from here after reading multiple reviews. I was not disappointed! I got the papaya salad (spice level 3), and yellow curry (spice level 5). Both were great! Flavourful and the spice level was pretty manageable.
I didn’t eat here in person so can’t say much about the space itself but the food is worth it.
My friends and I love this place. The food is so good and they have big portions. I went multiple times already. They don't have much space for eating in but its okay, i mostly get take out and eat at the university while studying. They are also very friendly.

Best Thai Food in Winnipeg, won't be long before our little secret is known to everyone. I order there Pad Talang dish all the time, it is so good and I love the fresh Green peppercorns they put in it.
If you are a University Student at the U of W, come by and get some salad rolls or a tasty bowl of Tum Yum Soup, you will be glad you did.
