Review Sushi Gozen - Winnipeg

Ordered take out from this fantastic sushi restaurant every month. Love all the varieties of different type of rolls. Worth to try and the taste are fabulous 😋. Won't order sushi from anywhere else

My best favorite sushi restaurant in winnipeg at the moment. I'm so in love with the "melt-in-your-mouth" signature rolls, both salmon and tuna version are amazingggg. Oyster tempura so good, if you are a fan of oyster trust me you will love it. I don't usually eat sashimi as i don't like raw fish, but i like all the sushi graded fish here, not "fishy" smell but it tastes so fresh. Also, their torched salmon nigiri is delicious. Wrap up, friendly staffs, food is amazing, good price for a cozy family dinner.

Friendly staff, good food, nice place and fair price for the taste and the quality of the food. The Rolls are my favourite. This is my first time coming here. And the experience was good! Especially when you eat there with good friends!

Food was delicious, service was super fast! Got our appetizers and main dishes in no time. Highly recommend the chicken karaage ramen (pictured) and the shoyu ramen. Definitely coming back soon to try the sushi!

I've come here a few times now and Sushi Gozen is my new favourite sushi restaurant in Winnipeg! The platters they offer have great value as you can choose which rolls you would like from the regular roll section. They are very creative with their rolls, I especially love how there are rolls that are torched. The originality and exceptional quality make Sushi Gozen a must go. The only thing to be wary of is the occasional wait time, but it's still worth it in the end.

Great place I revisited after 15 years. Missed the great quality sushi they crank out! They have a very diverse menu, from build your own Ramen bowl to Poke bowls and standard sushi offerings. Tucked away in a corner near London Drugs I think it is often missed when St Vital mall goers are looking for something to eat! Search them out and enjoy!

Ordered for delivery so I can't say much about service but the food was mediocre. I got the ramen set with Tonkutsu, Takoyaki, and Tiger Roll. Takoyaki was not fresh but it was delivered so whatever I guess. The Tonkutsu ramen was not that flavorful. Defintely have had way better ramen elsewhere. I also only got two pieces of pork and one small naruto. But the most disappointing part of the order was the Tiger Roll. Roll was small and barely had any salmon but was packed with cucumbers. Will never order here again.

We have ordered several times and loved the food. This time the food was presented horribly and the first few bites tasted lower quality than usual... then I found hair in our rolls!!! We ordered $115 in sushi and won’t eat any of it now. Utterly disgusted. I’ll share pics... note we have blonde and red hair... so not ours.

This place use to be in my opinion one of the best sushi places I've been to. Now it's one of the worst. I ordered 1 roll 1 appetizer, soup, sushi rice and a tea. It took 15 min to get the menu and asked if I wanted a drink. I placed my order before he left the table already knowing what I want. I had to wait another 10min to get my drink another 15min after that to get my miso soup and sushi. When I finnished my soup and rice my water and my tea I sat at the table full of empty dishes for another 5 min before I had to walk up to the counter and ask to have the roll and appetizer to go. At this point the server looks at me white faced and says I have to wait even longer for them to make it so at this point I've been waiting over 40 min for food they didn't even start yet. The staff here are rediculouly dim witted, forgetful, slow and rude. When I paid I didn't leave a tip for obvious reasons and the cashier shouted out to the server that I didn't give one with a snotty attitude. Like really! you wonder why when your service was that terrible!!!! Food court sushi has better service then this sit down restaurant!!!

The new ramen here is really awesome , I highly recommend tonkatau ramen , the roll is really delicious as well , i ordered volcano and lovely salmon roll here , one of the best roll I've ever had !!

This is my favorite place in Winnipeg for ramen and sushi, such a hidden gem.

Enjoyed Sushi here yesterday for lunch on our Black Friday Shopping trip. It was Great!! Staff is wonderful and friendly. I highly recommend you stop by for a break while shopping and enjoy some of the best sushi around!

My friend and ate here for the first time. The waiter forgot our other orders or didn't double check the order thing . If we hadn't ask him for our other orders we wouldn't have waited there for hours ! Not coming back ! If there's a 0 i will gladly choose that !!!! Also a suggestion before leaving the table make sure you know what your customer order !

Tonkatsu ramen: best I've had in a very long time.

I LOVE the ramen here. Lots of toppings and theyre generous with the noodles. Love that its not too spicy because I have chronic health issues so I can't eat super spicy food.

I took my son here after seeing their fb pages. I can honestly say I'm sorry that I did and $70 lighter out of my pocket. We ordered the $56 sushi meal combo with miso soup and fried calamari. Miso was lukewarm which could be a health violation. Everything that was fried was soaked through with grease ( fryer too low and not the right temperature). Sushi was below average with the exception of the soft shell crab roll. The bathrooms were atrocious and had not been cleaned in months. I couldn't eat after that and had to leave. I was having a hard time breathing until I left. Dust allergies, and was starting to breath again after I left.

It has been a long time since we've been here. We saw the new menu for ramen and decided to try it. We ordered the miso ramen and tan tan ramen. The broth wasn't that great. Didnt have much depth to it and tasteless. The only difference between the tan tan and the miso ramen, was that there were peanuts and was a bit spicy. You can get better ramen somewhere else at around the same price point. Service was slow as well, even though there were only 2 other tables.

Was doing some shopping in the mall and decided to come here for dinner. I was craving sushi and I know there's many in the area, but Sushi Gozen was conveniently located right at the exit of where I parked. Hands down for convenient location, they definitely got this going for them.<br/><br/>Ordered some nigiri sushi as an appetizer and then got a bowl of their newly introduced ramen as a main. For the sushi, I got two orders of classic nigiri and one order of gunkan nigiri. The classic nigiri was disappointing. The salmon was cut much too thin, and over seasoned with Wasabi. You can actually see the wasabi through the fish and as a result was far too spicy. The scallop nigiri was alright as the scallops were decently sized, but once again, wasabi overpowered it. The gunkan chopped tuna was well made, but way overpriced considering this is tuna odds and ends.<br/><br/>As for the ramen. I really wanted to like it. The tonkotsu ramen was not overly salty and had a very nice garlic undertone. The seasoned soft boil egg was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately they put raw bean sprouts into the ramen and that just killed the flavour as raw bean sprouts can be extremely overpowering (unlike for pho, this affected the broth negatively). The pork was also far too thinly sliced and the amount of noodles a bit too skimpy. The bowl simply looks underwhelming upon presentation.<br/><br/>Asides from the mediocre quality, Sushi Gozen simply does not offer good value. Sushi restaurants are everywhere in Winnipeg. You either have to compete on price or on exceptional quality. Neither of which Sushi Gozen can do.

Ordered through skip the dishes on Saturday night, early Vday dinner, 2 eight piece rolls, sushi pizza, tempura shrimp which tasted like they bought it from the freezer section in superstore, veggie tempura, I swear they gave us the smallest pieces of vegetables ever and calamari tempura, there was only 8 pieces, I brought this up on there instagram account and they told me there should of been more...and this came to 100$ Totally not worth it.

Haven't been here in a while. came here to have dinner. friendly staff as always. i found that their menu food prices went up by 15-25% but still the same portions or even less. i had 2 dynamite and chicken katsu with rice. came up to $25, which i think is expensive. this might be the last time i'm eating here as i can get good value of my money elsewhere.

Went here for lunch after a movie. The sushi is way over priced for the skimpy crappy rolls you get. The waitress was very nice though. I'd recommend sushi n or sushi ai, both a 2 min drive from the mall, and skip this disappointment.

Unfortunately this place makes my stomach upset every time I go here. The miso soup was great !!! I actually really like it and heard they are very clean.

My absolute favourite sushi place particularly for the good memories it brings me. Awesome friendly staff, sushi above average, comfortable atmosphere. I really like how they sell discount sushi at the end of the day. If im at the mall during that time i always go pick some up. Place is usually busy so that speaks for itself. Amazing sushi pizza. Although if i recall correctly the pizza was limited time only. I would like them to make it a permanent menu item. I have yet to find a better sushi place in the st vital area. This one takes the cake.

This place is disgusting. My coworker ordered take out from sushi gozen on July 25, 2015. She ordered tuna and salmon nigiri. In the photo i posted you can see the salmon has black stuff on it and the tuna looks like it had chicken pox. She tried to return it to the resto and they said it looked normal. What a joke this resto is!!!

Fairly awful. The sushi was poorly made with the rice falling off and the taste wasn't great. For the price, just skip this one and go elsewhere - or to the food court.

Bit of a dump. Poor quality fish if you can even find it in your roll. You might love it on your first sushi experience otherwise drive 2 minutes to SUSHI N Same price. But amazing.

Sushi. Prices are too high for the below average sushi. Not to mention the very small portions.

The food quality has decreased over the years. It's sad that fish is not very fresh anymore and portion are much smaller than other sushi places. I suppose this is a premium paid when eating Japanese food at a mall

Doesn't like it. Ordered 6 rolls, didn't fill up 2 people, they r small but its ok. worse thing was chopped scallop roll.. scallop tasted rotten, I have to split it out and I got stomachache after. It was soo good before don't know why it's not good anymore. Not coming back again

I ordered one roll, but accidentally marked the wrong one on the menu. The servers don't read back your order when you tick it off on the menu. When they brought me the roll I didn't realize I ordered I was told there was nothing that could be done. But I could order the roll I wanted on top of my mistake. The server even brought me my menu back to point out it was my mistake not theirs. Ok fine, I realize that it was my error. Thanks for going out of your way to point out my mistake instead of trying to make things better for your customer. In the end I didn't eat my roll because it wasn't the one I wanted and it wasn't appetizing to me. It was a $4 roll, and I wish they could have taken it back and made me the roll I wanted to order in the first place. I'm sorry they can't afford to take a $4 hit to please a customer. I ended up paying for it even though I didn't eat it, was told that they were only following procedure. <br/>I won't be back there for awhile.

Great service, order took a little bit longer than usual but was definitely worth the wait. Try the Energy Roll!

Wonderful presentation!. Had a really nice lunch here today. We happened across this place while shopping, and it turned out to be really great. Service was perfect, and the rolls were fantastic! Lots of flavour- we will surely be back again. They provided plenty of wasabi which was a nice change from other sushi places. The dynamite roll was one of the best I've had. Delicious!

Portions small!. I came here for lunch yesterday and ordered the Benidon with half tuna and half salmon.<br/><br/>The service was excellent and the sashimi I received was fresh and flavorful, but the pieces of sashimi were much too small, especially for a $15 menu item. (See picture for reference.) I was disappointed.<br/><br/>Even though everything else was acceptable, on the whole, I have a negative memory of my dining experience at Sushi Gozen. I don't think I will choose to dine here again.

DELICIOUS. As a Sushi Addict, one of my favorite places to go in the city. So much flavor and the portions are just right!

Sushi was delicious, however young female server was horrible. Rude and forgetful. Had to remind her that I just wanted a glass of water 3 times, each time she came back, she would always ask what would you like to drink again. She also tried to blame one of the male server, having the nerve to ask if it was the male server or herself that originally asked what i wanted to drink. The restaurant wasn't even busy, maybe 3 other tables. While enyoing my sushi, all I hear in the background is her complaining about the other customers and doesn't like cleaning up tables!

Enjoyable Experience - Very Tasty!. My daughter and I went for lunch and ordered a number of rolls (California Roll, Dynamite Roll, Rainbow Roll and Green Prairie). They were all fabulous. Every roll was very tasty and satisfied my craving! Even my 1 yr. old grandson thoroughly enjoyed his bowl of rice!

Went for dinner last night with two of my friends first time. I love the food and the great service. The tuna tataki and Ginger beef roll are amazing ......

I actually really liked sushi Gozen until today. I turn over my rolls and all the avocado is brown on the under side and there is a big thumb print in my wasabi. Kinda gross. Take some pride

We keep going back. They are nothing spectacular, but they keep being the first place we think about when we want to grab a quick supper out. Guess they are doing something right. <br/>Their Osaka fries are our favorites.

Good!. Though it's not my favourite place for sushi, it is my favourite place to eat in St. Vital mall!<br/><br/>The sushi held together well, and was presented nicely. I think the quality of the fish is a little lower than what I'm used to for that price, but we keep going back again and again when we're in the area!

YUMMY.. Went in for lunch with my grandmother around 11:30AM. We ordered quite a bit and it was DELICIOUS. The service was excellent as well. I will be going back again and suggest it to others.

Change the soy sauce. I haven't been to this restaurant in years, but that's because the last time I went, the sushi tasted too fishy (in a bad way). I recently went here with my boyfriend and I have to say it has gotten a bit better but the soy sauce killed it all for me. It is extremely salty to the point where it started to sting my tongue. It's too bad. Anyway I will not be going back.

First time we went was about 3 years ago. Didn't really like it back then so never went back after that. We had decided to try it again a few months ago and the sushi was really good. The presentation is nice and the service is great. Many new rolls added to the menu and they've also added a drink menu. My favorite rolls are taka sensei and crazy tuna. Will definitely come back.

Will visit again!. The atmosphere of Sushi Gozen was really nice and the service was fairly quick and friendly! Beautiful art work and decorations. The waitress made sure we knew what we were ordering, which was nice because I'm sure people who are new to sushi could end up ordering something they do not like. <br/><br/>the only thing we were slightly unhappy with was the amount of octopus in the takoyaki.<br/>and I wish they still had desserts! The green tea cheesecake sounds so good~!<br/><br/>overall i'm happy we chose to eat at Sushi Gozen.

Best Gomae & Bakudan!. So good! We always get miso soup, Gomae, Bakudan and spicy tuna rolls. Yumm! The only problem is that it's not consistent. Sometimes I go on the weekend or for dinner during the week and it's just OK. Not as good as at lunch during the week! Whoever the sushi chef is at lunch needs to train the others. Lunch during the week here is now the only time I go! Great service too. Very friendly!

I like their new items on the menu. Especially the Kyoto roll and the Osaka fries! I like that they now have cocktail drinks! ;)

Why have a dessert sign but no dessert.? The sushi was ok. It didn't wow me. The service was friendly. And I found the extra charges to be a Lil stupid. But I'm guessing they need to make the extra income.sashimi wasn't bad. But I won't be making that my number one place to go.

Fine sushi. I had been to this place regularly since i work arounds st.vital mall. I noticed that it changed ownership recently, i very enjoyed the new rolls , and it always supprise me with weekly special. Fine sushi with reasonable price.

It's okay if you're already there and want sushi... I come here because of the fact that it's in the mall, and when I crave sushi, I go here. It's not a favourite, it's just convenient. I find that the rolls are huge and have a lot of rice, which I don't really like. I recently tried their to-go box of sushi for approx $8. It includes one piece of chicken katsu, one piece of dynamite (most often the tail of the shrimp), three pieces of bakudan, three pieces of California, and I believe it's three pieces of a crunch roll? It's not bad, but not great. It's good enough to kill a sushi craving while you're shopping though. The servers are also super friendly, which is a plus.

For mall sushi, not bad.. It's not bad for a mall sushi restaurant. Usually restaurants in a mall falter because of the high demand and many customers. We've been pleased every time we've been here.<br/><br/>I like the takoyaki. It's rare to find takoyaki in this city. It's quite tasty. Is it the best I've ever had? No, but it's still good. Their sushi is decently priced, not overpriced at all and there's a good filling-to-rice ratio. They also have meal specials, I believe a couple's meal for $30 and it includes soup, tempura and many other choices.<br/><br/>Not bad, I say. Not the best, but it's good and I'd rather go here than the food court.

It's nice to see a sushi place in the mall! This looked like a cute little place to eat, we were immediately seated and got our drinks right away. The atmosphere was quite nice! We only ordered 4 rolls, but it took a little long to prepare. The sushi was good, but nothing spectacular. The service was great! Not too pricey, but for this price you could easily get better. To be simple, this is a nice little restaurant in the mall. Average sushi and great service. Not the best, but pretty good!

Nice alternative to the food court.. I sometimes grab the pre-packaged take-out meals from here, as I work in the same area of the mall. It's better than I expected. As I recall, it includes bakudan, avocado rolls, California rolls, spicy shrimp rolls, and some sort of chicken roll (which I gave away). All in all, makes for a tasty, convenient lunch!

So-so. Got take out sushi here today. They were really cheap on the spider roll especially. I could barely taste the crab and this roll is like $10...Very disappointing! Also I had to wait. The service is super friendly and the food -satisfactory. I wouldn't go as far as going there on a date. <br/>I had spider, bakudan and california. My friend had spicy tuna, and some other rolls. We both absolutely loved what we ordered, accept they forgot 2 put the spicy in the tuna roll.

Mushy Rice...... As usual I started with Goma Ae and received I am sure a whole package of frozen chopped spinach on my plate. It was HUGE but not the best sesame sauce I have ever had. I found the sushi to be fine in taste, rice portions were not out of control like at some places BUT the rice itself was MUSHY and tasteless. I think that if they learnt to master the art of sushi rice I would have enjoyed this meal a lot more. Servers were professional and friendly.
