Review The Diner's Grill - Winnipeg

January 2022, ordered takeaway burgers for lunch. Split the special Animal Style burger and Fatboy, and an order of fries, with my partner who is also a lover of burgers. First off, the buns were notably good. They really held together well, even after travelling for 10 minutes. But they were still soft and tasty. We both liked the Animal Style burger a bit more than the Fatboy. The burger sauce was very nice, and the simplicity of the burger overall was spot on: sauce, cheese, onions, pickles. Patty was soft and tasty. In regards to the Fatboy, the chili was thicker, beefier, and more plentiful than other classic Winnipeg Fatboys. Personally, I found the bottom bun a bit too loaded with toppings: mustard, pickles, tomatoes, onions... basically the mustard was a bit overpowering for me on this Fatboy in general. But again, the patty and bun were excellent. What I did appreciate was that this Fatboy did not feel like it was trying to imitate other Fatboys. It is unique unto itself. I expect some people might prefer this particular Fatboy to other Winnipeg Fatboys. The fries were good, even reheated at home. They are of the fatter, medium crisped variety and had a nice amount of salt on them. One order is definitely big enough to share for 2 people. Ultimately, I believe that the burgers from The Diner's Grill might rival anything else in Winnipeg, but I will need to try a few more before I can be sure. Which I will do. 2 weeks later update... I tried the Reuben Burger and a homemade soup, cabbage roll soup, and both were excellent. Lots of Reuben meat on the burger. Soup was rich and hearty. Friends ordered a Reuben sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich, both were huge and thoroughly enjoyed. I can't wait to eat my way through the entire menu.

Delicious breakfast again, friendly owner and very good cook also. Prices are very good you can get a full breakfast for 8 bucks!!

Just moved into the office next door and am extremely happy I have this amazing diner to go to daily. Food is amazing, owners/employees are super nice, highly recommend you go out of your way to get breakfast or lunch here!

I just ordered chili and fries, but it was more than just chili and fries. It also comes with shredded cheese, green onion, tomato and sour cream. All the ingredients are great and the fries look home made(hand cut). The service was quick and I'd definitely recommend this place.

Stopped in and had breakfast! Mushroom and Swiss omelette, hash browns and toast. They used REAL mushrooms that were sautéed and the hash browns were awesome! Even the jam was homemade! The quality of the food was homemade goodness! And the staff were personal and friendly! In a world of fast food and poor quality food I consider this place a gem! Good job guys!! I'll be back! :)

I love this place ! The Food is always great, staff is great and service is fast. I normally only swing by for pick up because I work in the area but as soon as I call, my food is always ready to go 10 minutes later. Fantastic place to go ! 10/10

I finally learned of this little Gem near my workplace just last week, and went in on Friday to pick up some lunch. I kept it simple this time around ordering the Soup and Sandwich special, (corned beef on rye, one of my all time faves). I upgraded to the Jalepeno corn chowder as it sounded so intriguing...100% hit! Everything was fresh, home made and delicious. The staff, (I'm assuming the gent I spoke to was the owner), was very friendly and welcoming. I'll be back, and I hope to drag my hubby there on a Saturday morning soon for one of those amazing sounding breakfasts on the menu. Keep up the good work! So refreshing to find a place like yours so close to work; it's what I have been missing! :)

great to see a young chef and owner doing food like this. I had there signature burger which was well balanced with size and flavour. the fries are cut in house and tossed in a homemade seasoning that you can actually see the herbs and spices. my pick up order was on time even on a busy night. very well done.

First time customer. It was amazing huge tasty portions. My friend couldn't finish half his food. I had the Friday special (schnitzel). Will be going back again. Too much on the menu not to go again. See you guys soon.

We had a late lunch/early dinner ,food was amazing,the decor brought be back to,happy days.this diner is fabulous ,and i am really stickler ,when it comes to food,my man had the Reuben burger,and i had the BLT on a pretzel bun would i go again,try and stop me,and i will recommend it to all of my friends,and their friends

I've eaten here twice, regular table service and the bacon buffet, and it's now one of my favourite restaurants. Food that's tasty and real. I'll be back!

Lovely hidden jewel with wonderful food. There hasn't been one item on the menus that I haven't loved. Staff are very friendly and remember you when you walk in. I have taken friends there and they all thought it was great.

First time eating at The Diner's Grill today and it's officially my new favourite place!!! Had a hard time making a decision but chose the special - Tex Mex Burrito and it was incredible!!! Great service and winder, cozy little spot... I'll definitely be back!! Thank you! �

Went tonight with a friend. Had the classic burger with side of amazing homemade fries. Actually, everything is homemade and fresh. The burgers are all beef with no fillers or secret ingredients. Simple and very, very tasty. So good in fact that my friend ordered another burger while still working on his first. I will definitely be back.

Boyfriend and I came for brekkie yesturday as first time customers. Loved it. Will be coming back to try more menu items.

This restaurant is fantastic. The breakfasts are large and the coffee is delicious. I ordered the stuffed bacon burger ahead of time for pick up (it takes a long time to make). Chopped bacon and cheese in between two patties then add more bacon and cheese to the burger. Yum. This is my "life burger" the best burger I've ever had thus far. This place is a gem.

Had the Rueben cheese burger and a side of chilli. I had to take a knee I was so full. Awesome diner! Fried eggs on burgers are mandatory, food is always fresh. Hoping to try the jalapeño corn chowder soon

I tried the burger from here for Burger Week 2016 as it seemed to have everything but the kitchen sink on it (and I'm a sucker for a lot of toppings and condiments). Admittedly this restaurant wasn't even on my radar prior to noticing it in the list of participants for burger week, but it is not too far from my work and reasonably priced, so it's always good to have another option to go to. The atmosphere is very diner, as you would expect... but the burger was just average in my opinion. It was messy but the meat itself wasn't anything spectacular, so it just didn't make it to my favourites this year, but it did score well in the votes it would seem.....

We went to the mother's day all you can eat brunch. It's not spectacular but the brunch was good and worth the money. Giving it a 4.0 rate because of the staff! They were really attentive and nice.

Tried this place based on the review by the burger club. It was ok. Both of us had the Diner burger w fries and gravy. The burger was requested well done as neither of us like pink hamburger meat and it was almost cooked a bit too long but with all the toppings, it wasn't too noticeable. The bacon was the highlight of that burger, two thick strips, cooked perfectly with no soggy spots (nothing is worse in a burger than limp bacon). I found the fries too salty, even with the gravy for dipping, but my BF loved them. <br/>Would definitely come back to try some of the other burgers on the menu tho.

The bacon was crisp and super tasty. The burger was crusted on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, while the BBQ Mayo complimented perfectly lending juicy deliciousness to the burger overall.

Ordered a cheese burger and fries for $12.00 to go. When I received my bag of food it was so light I had to check if they had put all of the food in there. Start with the good.... the fries were tasty. Now the rest- Not very many fries but tasty. The burger was small. Half the size of a burger you'd get from VJ'S or Dairy Delight. The flavor... there was none. The very inside of the burger had a very slight tinge of pink... under cooked. <br/>Restaurants please don't be cheap and figure you will make money by cheating customers. We know what a real burger tastes like and how big of one we should get for our money. When I get a burger & fries from VJs/Dairy Delight the bag has weight to it, you know you have received something for your money. You are not going to make money from me if I never come back and I never will and I will never recommend your restaurant. <br/>And here is another restaurant that has raving 4.5 reviews from people with 1 or 2 reviews. Family? Friends? Relatives? Should have known better. From now on I'll only trust the posts from reviewers that have made many restaurant reviews not those who have just posted once on their friends restaurant.

Heard good things so decided to go out of our way for a sausages and eggs breakfast. Arrived on a Saturday morning and the restaurant was empty other than one other table. Noticed that typical breakfast costs $8.50 on weekends versus $6 on weekdays. Never understood nor agreed with this ridiculous concept in the restaurant business, especially considering this place is in an industrial area and appears to get most of its customers from the surrounding businesses during the workweek. If anything they should incent customers with lower prices on weekends. But ultimately it didn't really matter because they were out of breakfast sausages... on a Saturday morning... in a basically empty restaurant. Fail. I won't be back or recommend to others.

I had the poutine! The fries were very good the gravy was good and the cheese curds wow, I have not have had a poutine like this since I lived in Montreal. I'am very happy that I found this place it's super close to my work. Support local businesses.

The Very Best Fish & Chips in the city! Homemade tartar sauce is awesome as well!<br/>We have friends from the west coast that will not go anywhere else for fish & chips!

Great spot with superb, simply good food. Not sure that there's a better place in the city for a classic burger. Without question, the best poutine I've had west of Ontario.

Service was excellent, the owner was affable, and the food was very tasty! A little out of the way but well worth the trip. Highly recommended.
