Review Royal Fork Buffet Restaurant - Winnipeg

Loner Morrison
Horrible experience. The food was sub par at best. The potatoes are instant powdered potatoes, the gravy has a horrible taste, the chicken is dry. The chicken balls are horrible, the roast beef was so fatty with no flavor what so ever. the place is old and needs renovation. The bathrooms are dirty and gross. The price for the food is born responsible at all for the food being such low quality. You could get better food at a hospital cafeteria then this place. If I could give 0 stars I would. Will never be going back.

Bonus points for nostalgia. I went out with my family to try a bit of everything Royal Fork Buffet had to offer. I was full before I could touch the dessert line. The pandemic wasn't kind to this iconic business. We'll be sad to see it go. What rises from its passing remains a mystery. I loved the salads and the chicken. The sheer variety and quantities of food were stupendous. Try this place if you have the chance.

So sad to see this place go! My family and I have been visiting this place for years! Visited with my family, my brother, and cousin's family and enjoyed ourselves like we did as kids. We've celebrated various occasions over the years. From birthdays, christenings, first communion parties - we're going to miss it. The interior is a little outdated but the food is still tasty. I went with the classic options.

TLDR: -Pricey -Food Quality Issues -Overall cleanliness is poor My most recent visit has been severely underwhelming. Now I do want to go ahead and say that I've had visited this place since I was a kid but I don't go often. When I was a kid although, this place was magnificent. However, not so magnificent now. The mashed potatoes were dry but that was fixable with the gravy. The corn tasted off and it wasn't just me that thought that. Sushi was edible and decent but I wouldn't expect the best sushi here so expectations were lowered to being with. Not to mention that food wasn't fresh which isn't too big of a deal since nobody was there I expected it. Now onto a less subjective complaint. There were still leftover stains or whatever it may be on the plates. It's very unappealing to have leftovers stuck on the plate that is supposedly clean. I get that it happens when the dishwasher doesn't have enough cleaning power but as a business there should be clean plates especially for the price they charge. As people have stated pricing seems to be more on the premium side. One of the heaters they had seemed to be broken or in very poor condition as well. Alongside everything seems old fashioned, which I personally liked. This included dated wallpaper, signage, decor pieces, and cash register area.

Worst experience. Drink machines broken serving us warm our compliments pop. Roast beef was burnt. Fried chicken was dried our hasbrown casserole was sour, gravy was watery. I paid 25 bucks for my plate and it was a total waste. They're going out of business and this is the service you get 😠 😡

There were not scanning immunization cards or asking to see I.d. Food was mediocre at best with everyone serving themselves. I wonder how many people touched same serving utensil as me. Do not recommend. Can see why going out of business.

Went there today, haven't been since the pandemic started. Staff were friendly but the food was bland, mushy, or tasted off. Not very fresh at all. The only thing we could finish was our salads. Very disappointed for the price I paid.

Good to see one of Winnipeg's Crown Jewels is back open and survived the Covid nonsense. Me and the Misses were there today and everything was beyond clean. The food was fantastic and a BIG variety to choose from. Staff were ultra friendly, with young staff that can actually have a conversation without using their iPhone. Highly recommended the old school crowd return and put on the feed bag. Make sure you have time for a nap and you're eating sweatpants handy.

It has been over 10 years since our last visit, and obviously that was not long enough! We have been patrons since they opened in Colombia Mall in Grand Forks, so believe me when I say I know RF!

Two types of chicken, overdone- both of them! The roast beef was fairly tender, but only "well done". No pink in sight! The carrots were overdone and mushy, but the brocolli was still crisp. The cheese sauce was clumpy pudding... There was nothing particularly tasty...

The chinese buffet section was mostly empty for the entire 2 hours we were there. The breaded pork was overcooked fossilized rocks. It was even worse than the regular buffet!

The dessert bar was good... and the tradirional apple turnover is still excellent!

At a price of $75 for the three of us, it was money wasted... for this price we could have gone to one of the many other (and far better) restaurants in the area. It will be a very, VERY long time before we try them again! BE WARNED!

A Great place to bring your family very good staff too! even if you are a giant radioactive monster the are very acceppting people just don't eat them....they make good food.! lol Cheers!
Melanie
Mediocre food, but a lot of variety and of course the speed and convenience of a buffet, which is handy when you’ve got a family to feed. Dining area could use some updating. Pretty run down.

A bunch of my friends were talking about our favorite fried chicken joints over poker and several of us were getting nostalgic about this place. To our surprise, after doing some googling, we found out this place was still open! My friends and I remember going to this place when we were children and thought it would be awesome to go again.

To my surprise, this place is exactly like it was 15 years ago!!! There’s a new small selection of Asian food and sushi, but the spread is primarily as I remember it as a kid!

Price is reasonable, it’s $20 for dinner and it’s all you can eat. I like this place because beverages are all included! Especially if you like a soft drink or bubble tea for your meal and then an additional coffee or tea for dessert. This can add up at other buffets.

As for food, most of the recipes just like the restaurant, haven’t changed in many years and tastes have certainly changed. Things like the bbq spare ribs or the broiled fish don’t really work anymore. But there are timeless classics like the fried chicken, coleslaw, baked ham, and taco bar which you really can’t go wrong with. There are also great desserts like the apple turnover, baked chocolate brownies and soft serve ice cream which are really good.

If you’re looking for a buffet to try that is kid friendly this place definitely has some solid hits.

With this place, you get a lot of choices, but all of mediocre quality. Salad, meat and potatoes section. Sushi, taco bar, Chinese dishes, and the odd time there is butter chicken. They have bubble tea, and soups, and desserts including ice cream. They have lots of room for seating large groups.
Ron Sarmiento
This place only exist because of the fried chicken. Everything else is pretty bland. Taco salad bar is OK. Bubble tea only desirable thing from Chinese bar.
FELICIA
We always come for the chicken! And they're stuffing is the best! Staffing is decent and for the most part very friendly and polite. The place is usually clean and the food is always good when we go!
Rae
Ordered sushi and bubble tea through skip the dishes and was extremely disappointed. We got the chicken teriyaki and yam sushi rolls and all you could taste was deep fried chicken (since they clearly use the same oil). The bubble tea came with extra jellies which I did not ask for. Never ordering from there again.

(please leave a like, comment or follow for the review artists out there :D) Its funny how even their salad can taste like cardboard... which pretty much sums up how I feel about this place. Dont get me wrong, they do have a few (and I do mean few) decent items (beef and barley soup for example) but most of their selection is bland and tasteless. At the overly steep price if $19.99 per adult, coupled with boring food, makes this a place to avoid.
Sweet Tooth
Their food used to be MUCH better a couple years ago, but I think the quality has gone downhill. I remember they had a wide variety of great food, but when I came here more recently, everything was mediocre. I wish they reduced the variety, get rid of the sushi bar (it was the worst) and make things more manageable.

Nice lunch buffet selection but at times it can be a hit and miss. There are some food items that aren't as good as it looked like. The fried chicken is one of the best- tasty, large portions and less breading. Nice selection also for dessert. Wouldn't mind going back if I'm in the area and really hungry and craving for Chinese food.
Heavy Early
This score is for the fried chicken only. Look, this place is what it is,but that fried chicken is crazy damn good. Probably one of the best in the city.
Rie
Coming here is pretty much a hit and miss. It's a good place - when you're not paying for your meal... I usually come here on occasions, sometimes the food is good, other times the selection makes you feel a bit ripped off. Their oriental selection with the bubble tea is okay - tastes like something straight out from a box instead of made by scratch.

The only thing I really like about Royal Fork Buffet is their fried chicken and the ice cream when you eat inside. But for their take-out options, definitely the fried chicken. Not sure why they removed the tuna pasta salad from the menu, but that was pretty good too. I would like to come here again with my date when they have the taco bar open again. I was even looking for their Belgium Waffle Bar a month ago, but I couldn't seem to find it the time I went. Maybe it wasn't available that day? I would give this place a chance again -- just so I can fill up on desserts. Try putting ice cream with your cheese cake drizzled with caramel and nuts!

Ugh i used to really enjoy coming here as a kid but its awful now, its gone downhill, food is bland and just icky like you feel gross while eating it, place is dirty, staff are unfriendly and unprofessional (the place is ran by a bunch of teenagers) only positive is the desserts which seemed to have remained the same and i still enjoy the cheesecake which is my favourite thing there. Lots of selection but like i said , the food is well below average.
I do not recommend. Terribly overpriced. Unless you want to fill up on desserts then maybe it would be a place to consider.
Katdavies17
The Royal Fork nowadays is pretty disapointing. Instead of focusing on a few dishes to excel at, they try to please every palate which was disapointing. Most of the entree selections were dismal, the only thing I really liked was the stuffing (which was probably StoveTop). But the one redeeming feature; DESSERT! I love the pour your own soft serve, and the fudge brownies were warm and melty and delicious. I don't believe that you really get what you pay for and the experience was a dispointment. Maybe if they cut their prices in half then I will think about going back.

Not sure to recommend this place. After reading some of the responses to the Royal Fork I think I might change my mind about requesting they consider opening a buffet restaurant on the South side of the city...like St. Vital area or use occupancy where the Target Store was on Fermor Ave. I know they are under new management and one of the things I don't care for is they no longer have trays and I hate it when other people have to carry my plate to the table. Another complaint I had was I had to use the handicap bathroom, when I went to leave my foot slipped on something and I realized someone did their business on the floor...not impressed at all We do need a big family restaurant on the Southside of the city....but WHO????
Gman
Horrible food and overpriced. Cheap gross food not impressed. Fire truck and Ambulance came to take someone out on a stretcher, might have been the food...don't waste your time!
Lorraine James
Anytime I attend a buffet and the spoons and tongs get misplaced, it's all downhill from there. I understand that the staff aren't always up on seeing about contamination, but if that's common, that's a bad thing. The food is okay.

GREAT VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY!!. I go to the Royal Forks Buffet often because I find the food is good, great selection, everything is included with desert and beverage. You just can't beat that, so that is why this restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat!!!!

Monika Y.

Filthy Restaurant. AUGUST 26 2014.
We had an 25 wedding anniversary dinner to attend at this facility, and had a private room reserved. As soon as we entered that room at the very left side of the restaurant it wreaked of cat piss. I have 3 cats and many litter boxes in my house and it doesn't smell whatsoever compared to that room. That smell isn't pleasant to be around while ingesting food. The amount of dust circulating in the room was unbearable, you can physically see it. I have a dust allergy and needed allergy medicine to get through the dinner. Also from inhaling so much dust my nose is still bleeding. Look up what a dust mite looks like and just know that innocent patrons are putting that into their mouths. I didn't want to finish the food on my plate due to watching all of the dust settling on it, and they have the nerve to threaten charging people extra for food not finished on the napkin holder.

The carpet has been there since they opened 30+ years ago and it is rotting, it is a health hazard. Management should feel ashamed subjecting paying customers to come and eat in that filth, Not to mention what we don't see behind the scenes. I think that they should make sure that the kids that are employed there, are actually cleaning and dusting everything including the many many blinds that are coated in dust, it is not the employees fault its management.

Great buffet.. I have been coming here for many years, seems that the price has everyone's panties in a bunch. Everything goes up in price, it's called inflation. I like the Chinese food addition as well as the sushi. But.....the fried chicken is better than any other. KFC has nothing on this place. Well done Royal Fork, your great.
Tara
Why did I want to eat here? Maybe it was the promise of bubble tea that caught my eye. Immediately upon paying $62 for two adults and two children, I realized my money could have been spent better. The mango bubble tea tasted like children's penicillin medicine. The carrots tasted like water. The beans were sorry they existed. The only thing they didn't manage to mess up was dessert, which I lived through. I've survived eating some awful food. Heck, I've survived my mother in-law's cooking. But I haven't even left the restaurant and I have a stomach ache already.

I have to say that every once in a wile I really love a good buffet and Royal Fork has an extensive selection! There's something for everyone here, that's for sure! The last time I went I realized that you can really pack away the food at this place...and judging by the size of approximately 90% of the patrons they DO pack it away! Wow! The size of the people who eat here is impressive...!

You Choose. Visited here for the first time in years. I'm not a big fan of buffets because there's too much waste and over-eating. However, I had no complaints regarding my visit. From salad to main course to desserts, I found all food fresh and tasty. Appreciated the no sugar puddings.

NOT NICE AT ALL. We were there Monday, March 3,2014 for lunch, We always have loved to come here, but on this visit between 12:30 and 1:30, as I was eating my desert we had happened to notice a bunch of boys licking their fingers and poking their fingers in the and cakes, and sticking their noses right into the desert and then putting them back, we left and will NEVER GO BACK AGAIN!! No one was attending these boys properly. Also noticed the booth seat were all cracked, and the walls surrounding the booths were filthy, AND WHERE ARE THE TRAYS TO CARRY OUR DISHES TO OUR TABLE???? NOT A NICE EXPERIENCE NO MORE. SHAME SHAME!!!!
Kraig2fur
Overpriced. Used to really like this place. It was reasonably priced, and food was okay. Usually went 1-2 times a month with my family and mom. Since they raised the price we don't go anymore. We like the food, just to expensive for what you get.

Winnipeg needs a new buffet! The Royal Fork is so outdated and now overpriced. The menu and set up has been the same for the last 20 years. We went to The Golden Corral in Fargo, ND last year and were blown away! The buffet was huge, the quality was decent, the variety was unreal. 100 times better than the crusty ol' Royal Fork. The buffet scene in Winnipeg is pretty lame in Winnipeg, someone needs to spice things up!
J.clark
Scary stuff!!. We went here for lunch or brunch to them and it costs 50 dollars for 2 this place is operated by teens who you can visibly see them fooling around and joking in the kitchen which was unsettling to us. to sum it up if you ever saw vegas vacation and that buffet it was similar to this. Some dishes pure gross in a pan!!
JonasThomas Lenio
The buffet was good , the sushi looked nice and they have a sushi chef to fresh prepare what is on display , and as we'll they had a few Chinese Asian dishes , good deserts , overall it's good

I hate to say it, but yes down hill for sure. I grew up going to royal fork buffet at least once a year and it was our to go place for celebrations too. We had seen the signs that they were going to be offering bubble tea and chinese food. SOUNDED GREAT. gave it two tries since they and we decided never to go again. it seems like the chinese food and the chicken and anything else that is fried...is fried in the same old oil. The buffet variety was far more limited, and I personally don't eat sushi..so paying around 22.00 per person came to be a moderate to expensive price. the ONLY PRO.. about the buffet is that there are unlimited pop and desserts. The desserts have never been good.. but hey its something. The coupons on the metro won't help you...

Gone down hill. I moved away for a few years. I use to love this Buffet, went there recently and wow has it gone down hill. And I find it a little expensive for cafeteria style food. A favorite when I was a kid, now I don't think I would set foot in there again.
Leo
I can tell the place had a new owner! Price is expensive and food quality is terrible. Never will return again!!!! Lots more choice in winnipeg is way better and cheaper
Princesslady
Dine with my husband. Sadly, its not the same.... This place is not the same as it used to be... thumbs down. Hope they make some changes soon.
Lynne Cooper
Just Nasty!. WAY OVERPRICED for terrible food. They used to have excellent chicken....not anymore. One of the worst restaurants in Winnipeg. It is an embarrassment if American visitors go there expecting what you get in the U.S.! Too bad the owners changed hands.
Sebastyan
Huh? This place is not wo.... Huh?

This place is not worth it at all. Overpriced, there are better restaurants in the area. I suggest you take a pass on this place. Food quality.....what quality?
Mike Boyce
Satisfied. Went 2 thursday's ago was great food was hot servers were quick and polite costed 36 bucks for 2 can't complain about that with the endless selections don't understand why so many poor reviews everytime i or anyone else i've spoken to have all enjoyed this place.... a bunch of chef boyardee's who wouldn't actually know good food if there palate was slapped with it.......if you can cook better then why eat out?..just saying either you like or dislike no need to run a place down when you could never do better!
Bob Shaw
Don't waste your money! This place is a mish mash of crap all put out into one buffet. Way over priced too.
Foodie
If you like plain cardboard tasting hospital food & love wasting your money, then this is the place for you.
Jake
Monies worth?. $22 is way too much of what they have to offer, the new chineese addition, big mistake. It was not a bad place to take the family, good selection and good prices, now you are forced to pay for chineese food that does not taste anywhere close to oriental cooking. I felt severely ripped off.

Best place for buffet in Winnipeg. After visiting the restaurant several times I have heard from customers and agree this place has widest buffet in Winnipeg. Check out the Youtube Video at http://youtu.be/IeSo6SPVaWE.

The staff do treat you like royalty and food is of high quality!

The Sushi, Dim Sum and Bubble Tea are very unique to buffet restaurants as many I have been to do not have all this included.

I would highly recommend this for anyone in Winnipeg or visiting to try out as new ownership has taken over in last year and has new different appeal to the place.
SpiceLife
What can you really say? It's BUFFET.... Took my little one here for her birthday as per her request. Prior to this year her choice was always Foody Goody, so you know what type of restaruants she likes... The ones with unlimited ice cream and desserts!

Anyways I think it something like $20 an adult and $10 a kid. Not too bad I guess depending on how much you eat. Just to do some comparisons I think that Mongos is about 13.99 for all you can eat and Foody Goody is $14 per person. That's just speaking price about these restos not quality.

The food is clearly below average a lot of dishes were not executed well. That being said, the selection and options do make up for easily bored tastebuds.

I wouldnt go here often nor do I reccomend this place, but it is a nice change if you do eat out a lot and are looking for a different option.
Food Snob
Well I don't have to say run don't walk... After reading these reviews you certainly do not need me to tell you that if you were actually considering an outing to the Royal Fork......turn on the GPS or Smartphone, and find anywhere else to eat nearby.
Applebee's, Arby's, Roma's, Hung's, Five Spice,
even Perkins, or Joey's or Olive Garden.
RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN... kids or no kids... Run.
Seadog
Over cooked????. Well that was a very interesting resturant. Not at all worth the drive. The girl that paid for stuff was so weird. The food was ok if all you wanted salad. The dressing were very thick the food seemed over cooked with the lights heating them for as long as it was sitting there. The sushi I am not sure where it was ( the rolls were so small) all tasted the same. Spend the money and find a sushi place then you would get bigger pieces. Over all 20.00 a person is ok if you plan on eatting lots. Not on my list to go back. Employee would pass by and not even ask if things are ok or even smile. Oh well they have your money as soon as you walk in so they don't care. McDonalds would have been a better choice after being there!
Rob Morris
Gone down hill. Throughout the past 15 years Royal Fork has been the best buffet place in Winnipeg, worth travelling across the city for. Now with the new changes and addition of sushi, etc has over blown the price to a ridiculous amount. Also the food quality has dramatically decreased, the food always seems to be at the bottom of the container and it's dried out and crusty. The only good news is it seems to not be as busy as it once was so you get through quickly. I don't think i will be going any more.
Carmen Scott
This place is way way waaaaay too over priced for what you get. The only half decent part was the desert table and the beverage selection .... But from the disgusting sushi to the ROCK HARD buns the royal fork was extremely disappointing. People say "it's good for a Buffet" but I completely disagree. The selection is poor and from what they do put out the food is not good. Everything is old and has been sitting out (for what looks like) waaaaay too long. Don't waste your time going.. Spend your money elsewhere.
Trevor
Way over priced food is cheap you mightas well go to tony romas and get better food for the same price , I am suprised this place is still open
Ellie
Price is ridicously HIGH! My husband and I went there for a quick supper. When the cashier told me that it's $44. I said to him it's only for 2 people and he said that the price went up May. NEVER going back there again !!! Not worth it.
Brandy
Dissapointing. I used to go to the Royal Fork with my family when i was younger and yesterday my brother decided to take my husband, son and i there for supper. it was bad. the chicken was COLD and dry and tasteless. everything was just bland and for $20 a person i expect it to at least taste like food not cardboard. while i know its a buffet and its not 5 star food, when you pay $20 per adult it better at least taste good
Allison Annabelle
Its okay... i liked it.
Gary G
Price of $22 is now not worth it for the menu. Unnecessary change of bringing in Bubble tea and sushi
Alex
We have been visiting the restaurant since 1999 and the most recent visit is On June 17, 2012, the father's day. I really enjoy the new sushi line. It has over 20 selections and are made fresh by chef. The tastes are great and healthy as well. Me and my wife with two kids spend about $55 in total, which to me is a great deal, as we had American food, Chinese food, Japanese food, free soft drinks, bubble tea and coffee, free desert, ice cream. It definitely worth the money. What a nice change
Easytoplease
Glad I read the review. We have ben going to The Royal Fork for years but not very often because it is out of our way. We went to eat on Sat. June 16th but they were closed until 4 pm because of their "re-opening" which stated the bubble tea, sushi bar. These two changes mean nothing to us but we thought maybe the "re-opening" aspect would mean refreshening the decor which is frankly becoming beat and dirty looking. This morning when I read the review about the price increase but nothing has changed but the addition of the asian dishes I am sooo glad we didn't wait until 4 pm. The Royal Fork is not going to be worth the trip for us anymore.

Everyone pays more!. Me and my wife LOVE the Royal Fork Buffet, but with two kids, we need to be budget conscious. When greeted we were told there was a new Bubble Tea and Sushi bar and that the prices have increased to $19.99 per adult. We don't eat Sushi or drink Bubble Tea, so we were not sure why we needed to pay for something that none of us would even eat. Total bill for a family of 4 now is almost $55.00 taxes included. Other than the new napkin dispensers that now tell you you may be charged for wasting food at $1.00 per sushi item and $5.00 per plate, nothing else has changed. In walking about a huge Asian family left behind half full plates of food and half full plates of fruit that wasn't eaten - and i'm pretty sure they weren't charged the "extra" fees.

Unfortunately, this will be our last time going to this restaurant, the prices and the atmosphere just don't justify charging over $50.00 for a family of four. I can go to Kelsey's, Montana's, or Applebee's and get high quality food and actual service for the exact same price - and the napkin dispensers won't give me a hassle if I can't eat my whole plate.
Cas
WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. .... WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN.
Do not go there, not worth the money. The price went up to $19.99 for an adult supper because they added a sushi bar....I hate sushi but you still have to pay the same price????? Not to mention the buffet was terrible.
We should have walked across the street to Olive Garden where you can get a good meal for close to the same price.
Foodjunkie
Never again. This was , without a doubt, the worst food I have eaten in a long time. It was Chinese food night ,so it's added onto the normal buffet which I thought was a good value. Wrong. How you make powdered gravy so lumpy I am unsure of . The Roast had the weirdest texture and 0 seasoning or taste. Potato wedges were all just short of burnt and were like lil rocks and the chicken was crispy on top but dripping soggy on the bottom. The Chinese food was no better. The rice was half cooked, spring rolls burnt on one side ,raw on the other and cold. The deep fried won tons were OK as were the chicken balls. Will not be suckered in again!

New Owners - New Prices. I have dined at this restaurant for many years on and off since it opened in the late 1980s or early 1990s.

I have enjoyed the food and the fact I could select the items I wanted to eat. I have seen the prices increase to the prices of $ 14.99 as recent as May of 2012.

The ownership of the Winnipeg restaurant changed in December of 2011 and now the new owners decided they wanted to add a Sushi Bar.

The fact is they are adding a feature that most of the people I have spoke to did not wish to have and probably will never use this new feature. BUT now they are increasing the prices for the Sunday Brunch from $ 14.99 to $ 21.99. That is a $ 7.00 increase for a meal that is nothing special.

Over the past few years I have frequented the Royal Fork at least twice a week and often three or four times a week. This is the first Sunday in several years that I will not be enjoying the Sunday Brunch. I have now found other restaurants to enjoy their daily dinners and at a lower price.

Good Bye Royal Fork I have enjoyed your services in the past and will miss them very much.
Kelly
Used to love brining my kids here as they had choices at not a bad price. Now the prices went up and other than sushi my kids won't eat anyway, the food is just as crappy as it was before not worth the money if your a family. I suppose if your the guy that eats ten packed plates it may still be good. Sushi at a buffet is wrong anyway or at least it seems wrong to me.
RainShyne Morpheus
WHY does this place smell like overripe rotting old fish???? If you can force yourself to get over the oily waft of that stench when you pull open the door, then you might get to partake in the buffet. Decent salad bar, except the salad itself has greens so pale they're barely even green. Hot items are 1 step above the trailer park. Desserts out of a Jell-O no-bake box.
Coolcarguy
Set your expectations low and you won't be surprised. Not much to say here, the food is exactly what you'd expect at a big American style buffet. This is not a classy place in the least (like you'd be expecting one if you even entered in the first place!) You pay in advance, take a scratched up cafeteria tray and then go at it. There's a decent sized selection and If you like not very good fried chicken, mac & cheese, fries, onion rings etc etc in really big quantities then this is the place to be! If not, then I can think of many other buffets in the city that are the same price and much much better such as all the Aalto's at the Canad Inn's and also the buffet in the casino on Regent as well. The service was okay, although as long as they clean off used plates there isn't much to it is there?
Billy Chan
Decent Buffet. Surprising Selection!. I find it laughable that people expect high quality food when they go to a buffet. It's just as annoying as the people who gripe about the Harold and Kumar movies or complain about the grease at McDonalds. This is not the place to be looking for quality. This is just good old fashion greasy enjoyment. Once you cheap skate Winnipegers realize that, the happier you'll be.

When we went on Friday night, it was $14.99 for an adult buffet which was fairly decent. The selection was surprisingly good. Some notable mentions: baby spinach (that stuff ain't cheap), sliced tomatoes, clam chowder, fried oyster, surprisingly good and moist fried chicken nearing KFC quality (though breasts are still dry, but not complaining too much as this is mass production), melt in your mouth ham, decent roast beef, brownies, chocolate ice cream and tea (surprising accomodation for non-coffee drinkers).

The ladies stocking the food were quick and polite (and surprisingly slender) but the busboys were slow to pick up our used plates. The crowd is what one would expect at a fine establishment as this: big families, big people, lanky teens with high metabolisms and body builders on their off days. I was also surprised to see a lot of young couples obviously on dates. Gee I wonder which one in the relationship made that suggestion!

What I found amusing when leaving (full and satisfied) was that the exit door was fittingly oversized (must have been at least 60" wide)... necessary as one would likely have increased in girth during the course of dinner.

Fine establishment. Manage your expectations.

It's a Buffet. Don't expect much.. I remember going here when I was a little kid with my whole family. That's what it's good for: big families with picky eaters. The quality of food is... well, buffet food. It's not bad, it's food. I've heard some things about people that worked there that made me not want to eat there ever again.......but sometimes you just want really unhealthy American buffet food.

Thumbs Up!. As I was standing in line at the buffet, I watched this kid mix an entire plate of jello and mac & cheese together and then drop it upside-down as he walked away. It was awesome.

It is what it is: a buffet.. It makes me laugh when people go to a buffet and expect 5 star quality. This place is a buffet that's not Chinese for once. It's alright. I go on Fridays because I like their breaded oysters - very good. I also like their lemon sole and other seafood they serve on Fridays. They also have decent roast beef, fried chicken (that tastes similar to KFC!) and a selection of salads (including ambrosia... if you like that kind of stuff) and a bunch of fattening decadent desserts like pudding cake, apple pie, cheesecake, ice cream, etc.

The bussers are quick to take the dishes and clean up but don't expect a great looking ambiance. This whole place looks like a giant cafeteria with fluorescent lighting.

If you really want a buffet, go here if you're in the area. Otherwise there's other suitable options. :)

AWESOME!. Well who hasnt been to the royal fork buffet? I mean its definitely no high quality restaurant but you leave satisfied and are welcomed back! prices have gone up in the last years, but so has everything else! i don't like the lettuce the have now for salads though.

Decent food. Family restaurant with good food. Nothing fancy. Sunday brunches are good. The fried chicken is actually really good, juicy. Salads and extras, fruit, soups, main courses, ham and roast beef, free drinks, and many desserts to choose from including ice cream. Gets pretty busy on weekends. Friday there's some so-so seafood. Few times some plates were dirty. As for commenting on the people that eat there (as in the other review)- leave them alone and let them eat their dinners.

Not bad. Has a lot of variety and doesn't taste all the same. I did enjoy myself when I went. My sister and I had a great time decorating our salads and then our desserts. I'd certainly go back if I were in a 'I want to eat 10 different things' kind of mood.
