Wako Sushi is a surprisingly wonderful takeout sushi spot. The rolls are reasonably priced, the fish is quality, and the portions are just right.

Best place for fresh sushi, reasonable prices and prompt service. The tuna bakudan and avoshitake rolls are superb. Assorted tempura is awesome...best eaten in-house.

Swung by this place a few days ago for some quick sushi take out. The service was friendly and they were very accommodating.
Wako doesn't have any of the fancier types of nigiri or exotic sashimi, but if you're into standard rolls and nigiri this place offers amazing value! I got seven very tasty and well made rolls for under $30!
There is limited dine in at Wako. They also keep the door open especially since spring is now here so you get a lot of road noise. It's best to get your sushi to go.

Wako is a cheap sushi joint in Little Italy, loosely named after a cops-vs-cult shoot-out in Texas in the 90s. If you consider that then your expectations will be appropriately set and you will likely not be disappointed.
My ever-picky wife got the gyoza which she said were delicious, her only complaint was that there was not enough of the soy-rice vinegar sauce for dipping. We ordered the maki lover combo, which for $20 gets you a lot of sushi. My wife quite enjoyed her teriyaki beef rolls, and my assortment of seafood rolls were acceptable. Good for the price, acceptable by any other standard. Apparently I'm the picky one.
I also tried the volcano roll, which is $11 so my expectations were getting a bit higher. I should pre-empt by saying that I am not a huge fan of cooked fish sushi, and that is clearly what I ordered so I had planned to allow for that. Surprisingly, however, I found it to be quite tasty! It was a bit sloppy and difficult to eat with all the small bits of fish, crab, and scallop swimming in sauce on top of the rolls. Even still, I'd get it again.
All told, I wouldn't recommend that you go out of your way to eat at Wako, but if you are driving around the area craving spaghetti and can't find an Italian restaurant then it is a good option to fill yourself with cheap sushi. I don't think I would eat in, it has the ambiance of a gas station. And I recommend not ordering skip the dishes unless you want delivery because the prices are cheaper if you call it in yourself.

Great take out sushi for the price if you just need a sushi fix. The portion of filling to rice ratio is decent compared to alot of other cheap sushi places.
Good for a nice cheap fix of sushi to take home and gorge on in front of the TV. quality ingredients but I'm usually disappointed by the amount of sushi vinegar in the rice.

I picked up an order here recently, mostly because I felt like I wanted sushi but wanted to not break the bank. I saw the other reviews talking about how cheap it was, but wasn't exactly worth the price paid, but I felt adventurous.
I am not sure if it was because I came in with low expectation, but I thought the other reviews were a little unfounded, unless they changed their pricing and quality standards.
I ordered a tekka maki, salmon maki, and shitake roll with miso soup. The miso soup was priced like anywhere else, and was pretty standard. The tekka and salmon maki rolls both seemed the have a good rice to fish ratio, but maybe didn't have the right amount of wasabi (it had not enough, which is better than having too much). I was impressed with the size of the shitake roll; it seemed to be bursting with a lot of mushroom, and was noticeably larger than the maki rolls I got. Taste wise it was good.
Overall the price, quality, and quantity is exactly what I like, and its on the same level of many of the other sushi places I love. I would totally order from here again, there is no reason to not go here.
Pretty good sushi for what you pay for. Sure it's not as fancy and some other places but it's good if you're looking to curb a sushi fix and you're not into spending a lot of money.
This is typically a take-out place with a couple of tables. I usually just call in my order and by the short time I get there, my order is ready to go.
Bento specials and their combination packs are pretty good and for ~20$ you can get their "maki lover" which consists of your choice of 5 rolls (regular or veggie).
Favorite place for cheap sushi. Minimal rice, lots of Avo! Do this: Get the Alaska. Get the California, get the tuna bukudan, get the dynamite and be happy for 20$
Delicious, fresh sushi. Love that they have a calamari roll unique to this place. So yummy! People were wonderful and although it's usually a takeout restaurant, they did have a couple tables to eat it. Highly recommend it.

I have been eating at this sushi place for a very long time and I can easily say that it is by far one of the best sushi places in Winnipeg. I recommend this place to any one who wants an amazing sushi meal for a great price aa well.

I get take out sushi from here on a regular basis. I think I've been going here for 3 years now, maybe 2.5 years. It's always super fresh, delicious and comes with a smile. I have yet to find sushi in the city that is as good for the same price. Love this place, will be coming back for a long time

One thing to note that has changed, the roll combos used to be that you could order x number of rolls of any kind. The slight new change is that you cannot double order any roll ie) for the maki lover combo, you must pick 5 different rolls.
Service is always speedy, and there is free delivery on orders over $40 within a 3km area of the restaurant.
Dynamite, Cali and bakudan rolls made better by being 2.99.
Great quality sushi and equally great prices. I ordered 24 rolls (avocado roll, cucumber roll, tuna bakudan roll and the dynamite roll) for a party. The price was very cheap, especially for the dynamite and bakudan roll, but the quality of the rolls were amazing. The sushi was all very generously filled with actual food and not much rice, more so than I've ever seen at any other Japanese restaurant for simple maki rolls. I highly recommend this restaurant for take out sushi.
Recently came back twice to try out some more sushi. I still stand behind the dynamite, avocado and bakudan roll, considering price and quality. I tried the deluxe California roll, special roll, Yokohama roll, black tiger roll, yam roll and river eel roll. Two of the rolls had real crab meat in it, but I found it to be canned crab, not fresh, which was a little off-putting. None of them stood out too much, but I know that the special roll was my least favorite.
Best sushi , best price. Been getting take out once a week for over a year from here and it's been consistently amazing.

My go to place!. This has been my go to place for a less fattening, affordable, after a long day's work meal. It's always fresh, prices stay the same ($2.99 rolls!), super good quality ingredients. I used to go to Kenko but my bill would be double for what I'd get. One time I had to wait 45 minutes for my order, which I didn't mind anyway, but the owner said it was on him for the wait.... super nice! Great staff!

Sooo good!. WOW!! Was very impressed with my takeout order from Wako. We sampled a few things, sashimi, yam tempura roll, plain avacado roll and spicy tuna. The sashimi was very fresh!!! Two things I noticed that will make me come back: they don't use too much rice in the rolls, instead there is more filling AND for about 4 rolls and sashimi our bill was only $15+tax!! CRAZY GOOD!!! The only downside to this place is they take quite a while to make the rolls (probably a better idea to phone in your order) and although there is a few places to sit down it's not really a sit down and eat kinda place. Still worth it especially if you live in the area!
Yum. After reading the great reviews we thought we would try it. This place was really fresh and tasty, worth the drive! We had the sushi pizza, california roll, green dragon and salmon rolls. Those guys know what they are doing. We'll be back for sure. They are a take out place only.
Will be back!. First time at Wako Sushi and greatly impressed! Everything was very well prepared, tasty and great prices to boot. And I'll admit it was the prices that brought me in the door as I tend to eat enough for a small family of 4 so sushi can get expensive for me (no, I'm not a blob. I workout! ;) ).

Delicious and Affordable. We were looking for affordable sushi in central Winnipeg when we stumbled upon this beauty. Wako Sushi Cafe is a take-out only gem on the main strip of Corydon avenue. Situated among a dozen or so other sushi spots within a few blocks, Wako stands out once the food is taken home and tasted. Simply put, the quality is top notch. Their regular rolls were on par with the best sit down joints in the city, and their special rolls really stand out in quality and originality. Although we have more items yet to try, we highly recommend the spicy scallop roll and the calamari roll. The Dynamite was also...well, dynamite! To boot, the prices are unbelievable (perhaps due to a staff of only 4 people), with regular rolls starting at only $2.99.
Decent Enough. I've ordered from here twice, having called in ahead of time so I could pick-up my order. Both times, upon arrival, I had to wait even though I showed up after the suggested twenty minutes. It was about a 10 minute wait each time which made the lead time from the time I placed the order to the time I left with my sushi about 30 mins. It shouldn't take that long to get two rolls of sushi and veggie tempura. That's my only beef, but like, others have said, the prices are good and the taste is average to above average,
Pretty descent. Cheap and quick great for takeout. Good size portions with tons of seafood. Gyoza were awesome.
Bargain & Delicious. We've been going to Wako Sushi for awhile now, and have never been disappointed. Their sushi is fresh, and isn't over stuffed with rice. Their prices are more than affordable, and your order is always on time. They have never messed up our order, and have always been courteous. You can't beat $2.99 for a dynamite roll, and have it taste as delicious as other high priced sushi joints.
YUM. Best Sushi on Corydon by far! Not only is this the cheapest sushi anywhere in the city, it is also the best! I have never had a fishy tasting roll here, and I order it alot! The bakudan roll is so tasty! They give you huge portions of gomae aswel. SO tasty!
Best Value Sushi In Winnipeg!. I haven't written a review in a while, but I'd like to talk about Wako Sushi Cafe. It's close by, and it's a take out only place, and literally serves the best value Sushi in the city.
The rice, ingredients and style of sushi they use are perfect for the price, and it's amazing how much more sushi you can get for $40 here, then anywhere else in the city. Delicious, fresh, and made when you order, not packaged up waiting for you all day. FRESH!
However, don't expect gigantic rolls, these are relatively small rolls, but that doesn't hold me back from going to Wako over, and over, and over...
Highly recommend the Bakudan, Dynamite Roll, and the Spicy Shrimp roll!
Bargain!. Wow, is this place ever a bargain. The california, baukdan and dynamite rolls are $2.99 each. We ordered a whole bunch to take over to a friends' house for appetizers. Even though the california was made with "fake crab/pollock" it was diced up like crab. I found it fresh and delicious. I also tried a chicken teriyaki roll, it was okay--not much flavour really in the sauce or the chicken. We also ordered Vegetable Tempura, which they were generous with, however, I cannot comment about it really since we ordered take out and drove 30 minutes to get home ---which probably was the reason it was soggy. They have a VIP card to collect points/credit towards future purchases. Thank you to everyone who wrote reviews about this bargain. I have taken food out here twice in two weeks.

Wow!. This place rocks! At the prices you can't go wrong. $2.99 for a bakudan roll that you'd normally pay $5 for? YES PLEASE. We got like 12 rolls among our friends and it only cost us $45. That's a freakin' steal right there. The quality is divine, lovely sushi rice and fresh fish. The only downside is that it's smack-dab in the busy part of Corydon and it's mostly a takeout place. This is my new favourite take-out place in Winnipeg, and the chefs are so friendly they talk to you while they make the food.

Good quality. I bought Fish Lover(10 nigiri, 10 sashimi) with some rolls for my boyfriend and myself ,since I really missed raw fish.
The quality of their raw fish was better than I expected. The fish for nigiri and sashimi had enough thickness and taste ,to be honest a little watery, and the octopus for sashimi was just like sponge.
But the quality ,except for the octopus, is good for the price.

Good sushi for low prices. Although it is one of the most affordable sushi places I have been to in Winnipeg, it also one of the most delicious. After placing my order over the phone, staff indicated that there would be a 20 minute wait. True to their word, my order was ready in 20 minutes. I tried the Dynamite, Salmon Bakudan, Beach, and Spicy Shrimp rolls and overall was quite impressed especially considering the total price of the bill. The sushi rice appeared to be of good quality and the amount was overall proportionate to the volume of the fillings in all sampled rolls. The Dynamite roll was nothing spectacular, the shrimp was done well however it could have used a bit more flavor. The Spicy Shrimp roll was in a similar situation however in my opinion a slightly richer sauce would have remedied it. The Salmon Bakudan and the beach roll were my favorites of the evening. These rolls were constructed well and the textures and flavors complimented each other. For prices this low and sushi this good, I highly recommend this restaurant.

I'm not going to lie: After my experience with Wasabi Sushi Bistro on Osbourne (again, see related post), I was eager to actually find good sushi at a fair price. This time, I did the right thing and looked at reviews on Yelp and Urbanspoon to help determine which places would poison me and which were okay. I decided to try Wako even though it's a bit out of the way for me, but the reviews were so good that I couldn't resist.
