Review 888 Chinese Express - Winnipeg

Would be my new favourite Chinese food place if they just got a new recipe for their ginger beef! Ginger beef was all mushy breading. If they would just get a new recipe for ginger beef this would be my new favourite place because all the other food like Szechuan chicken and breaded shrimp and fat noodles were very good. I really hope they get a new ginger beef recipe so I can keep coming back.

Super yummy food! Remember, they have their own delivery so please call the restaurant and not one of those profit stealing services!

Very fresh and tasty food, always gets our order right when we have tweaks to it. One of our top go to Chinese food take out places.

Quite tasty, decent portion sizes for the cost. Open later than most other places(if only by an hour) I will be ordering delivery from them again for sure.

Not impressed. Was told the food would be ready by 9:00. At 8:50 we got a call saying it will be an hour late. We were already there waiting for it and live 20 minutes away. They could have taken the minute to call us when they knew it was going to be late instead of telling us last minute.

The chicken fried rice I ordered no one ate. It tasted like it was a day old. I ordered right at opening 4pm. Should be fresh. Come on guys you can do better. I won't be getting take out from here again. I here there's a good place on Watt.

This place never disappoints in service and quality or even quantity, best Chinese food in the city. Used to live close by - now I drive 30 minutes back to pick up, love their food so much. I would recommend them to anyone looking for chinese food! Dry breaded veal, sweet and sour chicken ball and Cantonese chowmein are so tasty. Always fresh and delicious!

Ordered for the very first time last night & it was great! <br/>Portion size was great, arrived 25 min earlier then was expected, was hot & tasted delicious! Even got an extra dish for free with order because it was over $40 - more then enough food for family of 4 & leftovers for lunch the next day!! Will definitely be ordering from here again!!

We have always ordered our Chinese  food from here.<br/>Never had a bad experience always very consistent.<br/>Great food, generous amounts(usually lots of left overs) and great prices,<br/>specially there 8.00 items.<br/>Delivery drivers have always been very friendly<br/>and we wait no longer than the normal hour for our food.<br/>I recommend this place to everyone I know.

Never tried 888 before today and the food was really good. The breaded veal with honey garlic sauce was amazing!! Definitely will order from here again. :)

I loved it. I ordered for the first time Feb 2015 after reading the reviews on line, and driving by it 100 times. I phoned in a pickup order on a busy Saturday supper time from a VERY friendly person and was told 30inutes hour for pick up. Even when busy, I got my order in 35 minutes. Lot's of customers were coming & going, so It seems the news is spreading that this place has great food.<br/>I loved my food. Deluxe fried rice yummy, shrimp with black bean yummy, breaded veal with honey garlic yummy. All the dishes I ordered I was very impressed with. Large portions too. I have a few favorite places I order from, and I would rank this place better.<br/>I will order again & try some of their spicier dishes this time...and can't wait.

Mobile review. I recently just tried out this place after hearing many positive things about the restaurant. I LOVE their food, it's an amazing bang for your buck. What really drove home was the fact that the people there were super considerate and nice. Don't get me wrong, they gave me my order a little late but what can you expect from ordering on a Friday evening when everyone else is ordering too? I could see how exhausting it looked for the girls up at the front and there were some people over the phone and at the restaurant giving them heck when it wasn't really necessary. Overall, great food, great people and great prices. Would definitely recommend this place but BEWARE the weekends as these their busiest times.

What happens to orders that aren't pickup!?!........... Placed a pickup order (live 3 minutes away). I've ordered before, so I know what to expect!<br/><br/>The order was almost cold! Chicken balls looked like they'd been sitting around for some time, rice was all stuck together, and vegetables were soggy! The order had been sitting around for sometime, or other reason! I reluctantly ate half, and threw the other half in the garbage!<br/><br/>I called 888 Chinese Express to express my dissatisfaction. I explained, they offered to make me another order, but not before making a excuse for it being cold; first they said it was because I took too long picking it up (I was early, and surprised it was ready)! They FAILED on that one!<br/>They then said the food was fresh! Fresh or not, if it sits around until it gets cold! FAILED AGAIN<br/>Chances are someone else ordered it and didn't show up; thus it sitting around and being sold to me! <br/><br/>I thanked them for NOTHING and hung up! I will never step foot in the place again!

Unreal!!!!!. I haven't wrote a review before but this place was that good I had to. We have been searching for good Chinese food since our fav spot changed owners (and menu). This place was unreal!!!! The best food in the city hands down. Also so friendly, cheap and such huge portions!!!! Keep up the great work!

Not good at all. Based on their flyer free delivery for orders over $20 before taxes w/in 5 kms but my house is only 2.2 kms far from them and still charged for delivery. food arrived after an hour, i ordered beef curry and it doesn't really taste curry besides you can't really eat because its too spicy even you eat that with rice also their fried dumplings is more on wraps you can't really taste the dumplings its like your eating fried wraps.

Best bang for the buck Chinese in the Peg. We most often are blown away by this restaurant because the food is awesome. Once in a blue moon the food isn't as great as it can be but still amazing from a value standpoint. Best egg foo young in the city. Can't go wrong here.

I've never wrote a review but wow this food was so good not greasy it was crunchy and so yummy.We would all recommend it there was 4 of us.best Chinese we've ever had will be reordering

Fair prices for generous portions!!!! Tasted great. I never write reviews for any restaurant but 888 Chinese Express was incredible. I ordered Friday at 6pm and it was ready in less than 30 minutes. I happened to go in to pick it up - was very surprised how cheap it was to feed my girlfriend and I in comparison to pretty much every other Chinese food takeout place near us. The portions were massive for the 2 person combo we got + 1 extra dish. Everything tasted great, can't wait to try more on the menu. We went with the classic Chicken Balls, and the beef/broc dish. Was really tasty. With a tip it was $40 and no doubt in my mind this quantity of food would have cost me $50-55 at our usual place. HIGHLY RECOMMEND 888 CHINESE EXPRESS if you're in the Kildonan/transcona area!

Love it! This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant. The chow mein is so yummy and garlicky, veggies are cooked to perfection. I never thought I'd love a soup so much but wow, love their wonton soup! I also really enjoyed the honey spiced chicken, perfect amount of heat. I have ordered from here 3 times now and the phone staff and delivery people are always so friendly.

Surprisingly excellent. One Chinese place is GENERALLY the same as every other, BUT after ordering takeout last night, Chinese Express showed me that they are a step above average.<br/><br/>We ordered a large selection of dishes, and found all to be very good. The only exception was a dish called "King Pao Pork", which had too much of an overpowering ginger taste to it.<br/><br/>Everything else, though, Beef Gai Lan, Shanghai Chow Mein, Orange Chicken, Stir Fried Veggies, Chicken Balls, Shrimp, etc, etc were great. The chicken balls had the least amount of batter on them that I've seen in years, which prevented that 'big ball of glue' feeling in your mouth......you could actually find AND taste the chicken.<br/><br/>I'll be back

Good and Consistent. Chinese express has been my go to take out restaurant for the past 2 years. . No one does it better than them and i have had it at many other restaurants. Is this place authentic by any means? Well no, its not, like all the other chinese restaurants in winnipeg they are all americanized. but they do it the best in my opinion. And really with every dish at 8 dollars what more can you ask for. A great please to feed the family on a budget.

Meh. Usually good, so i got the sesame chicken and it was pretty bland today ;( the lemon chicken was a new order and i would soooo not recommend you ordering it, it was hard as a rock and sauce on the side, the sauce wasn't anything special and sure didn't taste like lemons ;p the ginger peanut chicken was good ;)

Fantastic. I ordered here the other day and i would just like to say everything was awesome. we got 5 dishes and the stand out dish had to be the ginger peanut chicken. I have been to alot of chinese restaurants and i dont think anywhere else offers this dish. It had a sweet gingery spicy taste to it and it was phenominal. We also had their breaded shrimp, special chow mein, and pork fried rice which was also good. if i was to be picky their mix vegs could of used a bit more flavor but overall i would definately recommend to all my friends. We ordered for delivery and it did take about an hour but was definatley worth the wait.

No good food. Food was very bland, I didnt enjoy my one and only experience at this place, I would not recommend this to my friends or family! STAY AWAY!

We had a great dinner tonight from Chinese Express! Our order took 20 minutes and cost $30 for fried rice, a chicken dish, beef chow mein and free steamed rice with 2 egg rolls as appetizers. When we got home we noticed the egg rolls were missing so we called and they brought them over to our house right away. The fried rice was very good, egg rolls nothing special but still good, ginger peanut chicken was amazing and the beef gai lan ho funn was ok but we didn't think it had a ton of flavor and the noodles were very thick. We very much enjoyed our dinner and would recommend this restaurant.

By far the best chinese food in East/North Kildonan. If you're looking for really good chinese food in East/North Kildonan, this is the place. We have ordered here 3 times in the last month and everything has been excellent. Food is authentic chinese, using high quality ingredients and large portions.<br/><br/>Hot and Sour Soup - Got it the first time and something about it wasn't quite right. A little too sweet? Ordered it extra spicy the next two times and it was much better. Large pieces of tofu, full sized shrimp, chinese mushrooms. This is the real deal.<br/><br/>Egg Rolls - Delicious. So good, we haven't tried any of the other appetizers yet.<br/><br/>Beef Gai Lan Ho Fan (Ho Funn?) - This is the dish I use to gauge a chinese restaurant. I wouldn't normally order from a chinese place that doesn't have this on the menu. Theirs is delicious, using fresh rice noodles instead of dried. Among the best I've had<br/><br/>Black Bean and Garlic Tofu - Tofu is excellent, as is the sauce. Onion and Pepper to Tofu ratio is a little out of whack for my liking, which is the only reason I wouldn't order this again. (Too much onion/green pepper)<br/><br/>Fried Rice - Tried the special, the pork and the mushroom fried rices. All basically the same. I'm not a huge fried rice person, but they're good. Not dried out like some other places are.<br/><br/>Singapore Mai Funn - Singapore vermacelli with pork, thin sliced vegetables and shrimp. This is better than any other place I've had. I will probably order this every time.<br/><br/>Ginger and Peanut Chicken - I've never actually had this dish anywhere else. Lots of ginger flavor up front, with noticeable peanut flavors as well. Ordered twice, great both times.<br/><br/>Spicy Seasoned Squid - Good, but not great. The breading is thicker and not adhered to the squid well. The squid is not cut traditionally, but rather large flat pieces for the most part.<br/><br/>Squid Gai Lan - Got this a subsequent time to the squid dish above. Squid is cut the same way but is much better without the breading. Really good, will order this again for sure.<br/><br/>888 Chinese Express is take out only. People that answer the phones and deliver are very polite. They have a "888 Choice Pack" which we ordered each time that comes to $45 even with taxes. This place is going to save me from driving to Kum Koon or Golden Terrace downtown.

Back to 8 bucks an item. Hey with an item per person this really works out with me I order from the Plaza but their containers are tiny by comparison . I hope 888 can expand with more flavorful recipes cuz i did enjoy

A satisfied customer.. I consistently get delivery from here and I'm always satisfied, all entree's I'd had thus far are scrumptious and the service and delivery people are great. The pricing is fair and the single time we've ever had a problem, they even gave us a sizable discount. It's clear that staff here give 110% and that the owners genuinely care.
