Review Kent Restaurant - Winnipeg

cliff spence
This place use to be owned and operated by a highly reputable family. The food was always perfect. It has since been sold to what looks like Korean people. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But is suppose to be a Ukrainian restaurant...lol. The food was not what i expected. My wife and i had breakfast and my daughter had a burger. I found the portions were small for the price . I ordered the hefty breakfast. It only came with 2 small thin beacon strips. I will not go back for breakfast. The burger was dry and not home made. It was not juicey and did not taste good. We will not return for lunch or burgers. Over all we will not go back to kent's. It was not worth what we paid as compared to other good breakfast restaurants and burger places. We will take our business to a place with better value and quality, 42$ for this meal is outrageous. Also the decor is very main street "higgins street looking."

A stellar place for breakfast. Ok, let's start with the gripes and work our way up from there. The decor is a little dated with a somewhat of a mint green motif going on. Basically, that's my only gripe with this place, everything that really matters was on point and exceeded expectations. The staff is wonderful and attentive while the menu had lots of options. The stand out for me were the hash browns, they were perfect and were even enjoyed by our 4 year old fussy eater. Great place, will definitely be returning.

One of my favourite places to eat at! I love the service and always enjoy the food. I have always had a good experience here, the staff are very kind and the menu has great prices! (Good portions too)

Friendly neighbourhood breakfast and lunch place. Generous portions and quick service. The Kent's Breakfast special is a great bargain with two eggs, bacon, toast and amazing pan fried hashbrowns. If you like your hashbrowns to be real potatoes sliced thinly and cooked until crispy edges form, this is a place for you.

Absolutely fantastic breakfast with phenomenal service. The pancakes where crispy so they hold up to liberal syrup application. The eggs benny was delicious and accompanying that is the best style hashbrowns I have had in a long while. This place exceeded expectations and I will definitely be returning.

I've never had a bad experience here. The food is good, and decently priced. They use real ingredients. The woman that normally serves us is very friendly and engages in conversations with her customers. She always makes sure that you are satisfied by asking if you need anything else. It's a nice and quiet little restaurant. They close early because they are a breakfast and lunch restaurant.

Good food. Good price. Nice people. This is a real "Diner". No frills. Just good.

I am going for breakfast with my stepfather tomorrow. Grace is closed on Tuesday so we were forced to go back and see if our old haunt was still the same. No improvement on anything to make our breakfast enjoyable. What a great place we go to now. fast and delicious. Keep that coffee coming. Could you surprise Bert and cut his one slice of toast in half. You will make him smile. I think I will have the eggs Benedict ,great reviews.

First time today for lunch. Friendly, great menu with reasonable prices. Had a “real turkey” sandwich with gravy and fries. Come back to the table several times to see if everything was ok. It was.
I’ll be back

Chances are you may never have been here as it is a bit of a hidden gem! Been coming here for a while. Only one regret ... I wish I had found it sooner!! Amazing food and tremendous service!! Highly recommend!!!

Had Eggs Benedict here. Great great Eggs Benedict. $7.50. Great great price. Good coffee. Great and friendly service. The meal came with some of the best tasting hash browns I've ever had.
I will come back.
There were many people who came in after us who were obviously return customers as the server just asked them "The usual?". When you have many returning customers you know the food and service is good. There are many restaurants that could learn from this place.

I had sausages, hash browns and toast. I was happy to see real fried potatoes, somewhere between cubes and shredded potatoes. Some nice crispy bits. Coffee was a bit thin though. Service was attentive and friendly. Definitely will go back. Only $7 for breakfast?!? Wow!

Went there today for some brunch, I can't even begin to say how nice of a time I had! The waitress was super nice and made sure my coffee cup was always full, the eggs were made true to medium, and the sliced hashbrowns were easily the best I've had. The cheese on the eggs benedict was a very yummy touch. The meal and coffee was, get this: under $10!!
I can not wait to get back!

Food is good but.... On Sunday I just had the very best eggs benedict ever, The eggs were perfect, the Hollandaise excellent. And under $7.00. However the restaurant is terribly untidy. I know its a small family run diner, but....... we got a table quickly as the place was busy. So busy that I was surprised to see a booth at the back right across from us, obviously used as a desk or family table . A rather dirty large jar filled with flowers was surrounded by a jar of hand cream, piles of books and other assorted personal items that should be out of sight and the table being used to make money. Most dishes that came out of the back kitchen were put down for a moment on this table before coming to the customer. At one point a pile of papers were lifted up to reveal a cloth that was then taken to wipe off tables. The servers were unsmiling ,and the food although excellent came to us in stages , his eggs and bacon first then a wait, then my eggs benedict ,then his toast , then something else after he reminded her. I don't really know if I will go back and further if I could recommend it to anyone. It's a pity as the food was excellent. I like diners, drive ins and dives but this one is a bit too much of a dive

Besst servicr in town. I've been to the kent countless times and have grown to go for the love of our waitress. Shes amazing and sweet and always has a smile on her face as soon as you walk in regardless how packed it is. The food is fantastic, me being picky on how I like my eggs done they always come perfect. I strongly suggest anyone looking for a good meal at a great price check out the Kent. Everythimg is wonderful cant go wrong.

Great Breakfast, best on the strip!

Seriously excellent. I have done eggs benedict all over the place. And mostly found that requesting the eggs done soft was an exercise in futility. Always finding, that regardless of the request, the yokes would come medium hard to hard, a mortal sin in cooking, as far as I'm concerned, especially when paying $12.00 or more for breakfast, But, been to Kent for breakfast twice in the last month and got my eggs right. And guess what, it only cost me 6.50 for eggs benedict. The hollandaise was as good as ant I've had here and all was very good. To think I only paid 6 1/2 bucks to get the best eggs benedict I've had in Winnipeg, brought to me the way I ordered them is crazy, and without the bitch waitresses I've had to endure (read: The Eye Opener on Main St.) is amazing. Give tis place a try for breakfast or lunch, A true gem in the rough.

Great food great people. So many people come here and it's the service that I really love. The girls work hard. Pan fries yummy! I'm a breakfast kind of guy and this is the place. Have you been here yet? Excellent!. Been going here for a while and always really enjoyed my meals. Breakfast and lunch is extremely cheap (nothing over 6 bucks) but also really fresh. But today I had the Kent Special Burger- boasting a huge patty, all the fixins, PLUS their secret chili. They warn you that its spicy, and it really is. Super good though- EXCELLENT burger with fries for 6 bucks! Eggs Benny is killer too- again... 6 bucks.
Full marks!

March 16 Are you familiar with the saying: “The more things change, the more they stay the same”? Driving past Kent Lunch at the corner of Kent and Nairn, a couple of years ago, I noticed that the building that they had long inhabited had gone through a major overhaul. Upon inquiry, I also discovered that the original owners had sold to new ones. I distinctly remember chomping into a meatloaf sandwich in the “olden” days and was hoping to resurrect that memory when I spontaneously stopped in. Sadly, I was informed that my favourite sandwich must have been a thing of the past. Undaunted, I scanned through the menu and spied a clubhouse sandwich, another of my favourites. The essence of a superior clubhouse sandwich is, in my humble opinion, the quality of the chicken or turkey. It must be oven roasted and not a manufactured substitute; and so it is at Kent Lunch. But the from-scratch cooks of the popular spot, go one step further and offer the double decker sandwich with just-roasted beef! Hand cut fries accompany the sandwich. I tried to resist these but ate enough to comment that they were very tasty. The cup of homemade chicken soup was another highlight. The surprisingly clear chicken broth supported tender pieces of celery and carrot as they floated about. Hearty pieces of chicken and white onion had sunk to the bottom of the bowl creating a tasty reward after my veggies were dutifully eaten. Owner Grace Kim is an absolute delight, obviously proud of the cheerful atmosphere that she and her parents have created in the breakfast and lunch stop. She warmly greets her many regulars with familiar conversation. For those dining alone, she has positioned a TV to keep them company. With some daily specials under $5, I suspect she sees many solo diners from the neighbourhood. Kath’s quote: “When I was a boy there were only three kinds of sandwiches in common use – the ham, the chicken and the Swiss cheese. Others, to be sure, existed, but it was only as oddities. Even
