Review Tony's Master Of Pizza - Winnipeg

Kristina Elkins
We got a meat pizza and it was good. It was cut into squares which I typically only see with thinner crusts. It's very close to the house I'm house sitting at so I thought I'd give it a try

Picked up pizza for an occasion 30 April ‘22. Got it home and looked inside boxes, both were burnt. One so badly even the bottom was blackened. The toppings were so overcooked pizza was like cardboard. Really disappointed especially when I had company to feed.
Meghan Fifi
One of the best old school pizza places in town. Friendly staff, delicious 'zah, great price.
Matthew Nordick
One of my favourite pizza joints in Winnipeg. Definitely recommend the Tony Special. Love the ingredients, and the friendly staff. Just flat out, tremendous pizza.
Paweł Głowacki
Not impressed. Pizza was overpriced, nothing particularly memorable or distinguishable about it's taste, and not a single chair for customers to even sit down since it's purely a pick-up-and-go joint. When I walked in, I ordered what I wanted and came back in 1/2 hour since that was when they said the pizza will be ready. They didn't ask me for my name while ordering. When I came back in 1/2 hour, first thing they asked was for my name. I had to convince them I was there just a 1/2 hour ago. The pizza isn't bad, but it is simply too overpriced for the same or better quality pizza from nearby competitors. Customer service is lacking.

Went for the first time yesterday and absolutely loved the Tony's special. Delicious pizza!!!

The pizza is not perfect but it is good and priced decently. The people that work there are friendly and competent and don't make you feel like you are on their clock. They are good at what they do and seem to love doing it. I like the 'carnivore' myself and have grabbed one for a guest on occasion.
Candace Lynxleg
Courteous on phone. Delivery under an hour, delivery guy was really nice, forgot the drink but ran to nearby store to bring to us asap. Excellent thin crust pizza, generous fresh toppings and not overly done! We ordered the Combination and the Hawaiian which was well worth the price for two medium. I absolutely recommend this joint due to the quality, price, time and courtesy.

I've been enjoying Tony's pizza since 1971. It is one of Winnipeg's best pizza. In all my travels around North America, I have never found better. So many boast about their greatest pizza and I have tried them, they have never been here.
Ted Harpley
Tonys pizza is the best pizza in the world. The driver Ted is a great employee who is always friendly and helpful to the costumers and staff. The manager makes the place run like a well oiled machine. Order Tony's pizza and enjoy a taste of heaven!!!
Christopher Dale Francis Dolinski
Not cheap on toppings, good cheese good sauce, crust was meh. Not really a thin crust
Suzie Zanewich
It was awesome! Quality ingredients and delicious pizza!

Pizza was fantastic!!! Can't believe I've never had this until today!.

Just tried Tony's pizza - it was excellent - so happy we moved into their delivery area!

Our first time ordering from Tony's was last night, and we'll be back for sure.

The person who took our order was very efficient, and quoted us an hour for delivery. Actual delivery to door was only about 45 minutes. We only use our back door, and you would be surprised how many delivery shops refuse to use it. Not Tony's.

After our first few bites the first word that came to mind was HONEST. This pizza is everything they say it is, and looked very much like the photographs. You cant say that about many others.

We ordered a large Tony's Special and a large Hawaiian Delight. Both were excellent choices, loaded with REAL hand-sliced toppings so that you could taste them all with each bite. Another thing you can't say about many others. These pizzas are quite significant, you will be full after 2 or 3 slices. We could have easily ordered mediums and still had leftovers for today. As leftovers, we reheated them in the oven for about 10 minutes and they taste even better than they did last night!

Prices were appropriate for the quality and quantity of food you receive and they have a fairly large delivery area. Our bill came to $50 even after taxes, delivery and a tip.

In short the pizza took forever to the point where they were literally avoiding my calls than they were rude and condescending about it and actually aggressively interrupted me as I was talking. Just rude and savage customer services.
Bernard
Don't waste your time. I got there about 5 minutes after my order should have been ready only to be told it won't be ready for 15 more minutes, so obviously they hadn't even started my order and no one bothered to call to let me know that they're running late. About half an hour after it should be ready, I get a pizza that's practically swimming in sauce and not even a word of an apology. Don't believe the reviews and don't waste your time and money.

So disappointed we ordered a large pep mushroom the pepperoni was disgustingly thick- had to completely remove from it from pizza. The crust was not great maybe old- for almost a 30 dollar pizza i expected for it to be edible :( I read so many great reviews-smh never again!
Sean
I don't understand all the positive reviews?

Low quality cheese, bland sauce. I'm not quite sure where the positive reviews come from because Tony's is on par with Gondola albeit a better crust. They also would not deliver; I live in Charleswood so by house is only a good 15 minute drive from Pembina so that was also disappointing. The fact that they would not deliver did not sway my review because I have no problem driving to pick up a good pie.
Arman Khossain
Awesome pizzas, I would recommend the 6 meat Carnivore! Also, their deals on two pizzas is awesome, buy one get second one half price! Delivery is a little bit of a wait (45-60min) usually, but it's well worth the wait! Their pizza is not baked in convection ovens, but stone ovens I heat, which explains why they're so good! Regular crust is like thin crust at most other pizzerias.
Christine Chmelnytzki
Tony's pizza is my favourite. Always tastes amazing. The price is right. Highly recommended to people who are looking to try a new pizza place 👍
Tdacie
Oh Man, I ordered too much. Got an extra large carnivore/extra sauce and an extra lars seafood/extra sauce. 3 small pieces and I have to stop for a few minutes :)

They deliver out to Saint Norbert, but I like filling up the car with that heavenly smell.

Their normal crust is what I would call thin from most pizzerias, and they pile on the toppings.

You do pay more than Pizza Pizza for example, but it's worth every penny. Fresh, hot and real cheese. Picking it up is a real education in just how muxh business they do and how busy they are.

I'll be ordering repeatedly.

Tom

Best pizza in the city! I have ate at many, many pizza places and randomly tried this place last week and wow! I ordered it again today and this place is phenomenal! Both times were excellent pizza, cooked perfect and crust is delicious! Definitely going to become a regular at this place.

Question. Is this the same Tony's Pizza that had a location in the strip mall at Molson and Concordia years ago??
Bullet_33_avs
Awful. Was very pumped to eat this pizza after the rating i seen and wanted to try something new. But i was incredibly disappointed. was sooooo soggy. cheese looked all messed up and looked like it was cooked 2 hours before they dropped it off. Eat Santa Lucia dont waste your money on this garbage.
Joelaroque
The whole place sucks!. Dirty place and dirty people. Wouldn't eat there if I were paid.

Best in town.. I have never been disappointed with Tony's. It is easily the best pizza in town so don't listen to the few negative reviewers. Actually it is some of the best pizza I have ever eaten. We always get the Tony's Special and substitute spicy eggplant for the mushrooms. Highly recommended!

Tonys has been around for a very long time with a great unique tasting pizza that is the best in winnipeg
Victorialynnallen
Darn Good Pizza ( I'd swear but the site won't let me ). I used to work in a bar who's kitsch closed early and after 10 pm we'f let people order pizza from other places and eat it there. Everyone always ordered from Tony's and now I am hooked. Really good thin crust. Great combinations and the Zorba the Greek. Holy Moly this is such great pizza! Also try the seafood pizza, I was apprehensive but it was yummy!

We wete visiting Winnipeg for the May long weekend. Tony's pizza has a rating of 91%. So we decided to give it a try. We were blown away by how dissapointing it was. We ordered 2 Tony's specials for $35-$47 after taxes and delivery. The pizza dough was very soggy in the middle. the toppings would slide off and we were left with limp dough with pizza sauce on it. The toppings were also soggy for some reason. The meat was fair quality and taste was also only fair. We dropped one entire pizza from the hotel desk by accident and did not even miss it. The Coke was good though. For $50.00 including the tip...it was not even close to being worth it. How in the world is this place rated 91%? I do not even want to say what I would rate the pizza because I don't want to be that harsh. I could not bring myself to order this pizza again, I would be to afraid to waste my money again.
John Marton
Do not even think of eating here, worst pizza ever. The entire pizza was so wet you could have juiced it.
MeatN DaSweet
One of the best. Haven't ordered from Tony's since moving back to Winnipeg..... Hands down one of the best tasting pizzas I've had.
Could use a bit of cleaning inside though.

EXPENSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT !. Tony's Pizza used to be my favourite treat!!! Not anymore!!! Pizza comes burnt on the outside ....and soggy in the middle. Also ,way over priced for the quality! Don't mind paying a little more for great food . $53.00 for two xl pizzas 1 two topping and 1 just cheese! We will be sticking with our usual Santa Lucia and for cheaper nights and good value pizza hotline. Trust me when I say you are better off not ordering Tony's..... Also orders take 1 hour for delivery!!!
Sushi Pig
YUM!!. This is the best pizza I have ever had. My husban'ds favorite food is pizza, so naturally, I have tried quite a few different spots. This hands down is the best. We like the Tony's special and a ham and pineapple.

This review should be back dated. I forgot to write a review last year on my not so great experience with Tony's. We ordered 2 pizzas and both came undercooked, soggy and the crust was doughy but burnt. I kid you not with this description. We phoned to complain and were told gruffly and rudely that Tony's doesn't make a thin crust pizza. Why take our order then? I was asked what I wanted done about it and I said I wanted my money back and I was told that it would be done. My husband went and they wouldn't give the money back but he gave him instructions on how to cook it in the oven. No joke. We will never go to Tony's again we take our business happily to House of Pizza across the street where they actually know how to do a thin crust.

Great pizza! Can't say enough good things about Tonys pizza! You can really taste the ingredients. Its fresh and delicious. My favourite pizza so far is the Hawaiian pizza and my boyfriends is the Carnivore. To me the price is pretty reasonable for the quality you are getting.

Awesome Pizza!. Our work group ordered pizza here today for a Christmas lunch gathering, and it was excellent! The pizza was delicious! Toppings were amazing! Great tasting, and awesome combinations! It's very filling! Yum!

I just know it. I saw tony's pizza while driving down pembina and I just know this would be one of those very very special places. honestly I wasn't even hungry but I just had to try this. I was 100 percent right. This was the best pizza i've ever had in Canada. don't believe me try it for yourself. you'll see what I'm talking about :)

Really Good Pizza. If you want to have a good slice, Tony's will not disappoint! Dough is great, on the thinner side, and is the perfect vehicle for whatever topping you desire.
I Love Food
One of the best. In the top 3 for pizza joints in the city. My personal favorite. I have and will continue to drive from Transcona to Fort Gary when I'm craving one of their pies.
Treaty_treats
Soggy Bad Pizza.. First time ordering and I am not impressed. The pizza was late and the dough was soggy. Their sauce tastes like sour water and there cheese is not that good. The pizza both looked and tasted nasty. I should of ordered from Santa Lucia.
Cfoodguy
Amazing. I only recently heard about Tony's. I went to try it, and I must say that the pizza was amazing. The fact that they can make even their basic ingredients (pepperoni, peppers, mushrooms) taste better than the 'big' name pizza chains says a lot about the quality of food. Also had a seafood pizza, and was very impressed with the amount of seafood placed onto the pizza. While Pizza Hut still has the best crust in my opinion, the toppings and friendliness of the staff at Tony's is definitley my favourite so far in the entire city. A must try for all who like pizza!
Bobby Digital
The people that work there are a hot mess, but the pizza is amazing. Santa Lucia gets voted best pizza a lot and their pizza doesn't even come close to being as good Tony's.
Rileycat
Best Pizza in a LONG Time!. I was looking for something different for pizza, and based solely on urbanspoon pictures (and linking through to restaurant websites for more pics) i choose Tony's Pizza a couple weeks ago.

As most said in other reviews, the price was reasonable. It smelled so good when I got it in the car I couldn't wait to try it! OMGosh! Simply the best pizza EVER (If you like a thinner crust).

I couldn't wait to get home to call them and tell them how good it was.

When I need a pizza fix, I will be back!

Great job!
Tomispissedoff
Horrible manager/owner. Wow! I have been going to Tony's pizza for a number of years, as the service was always good and the former owner took pride in his service and how he treated people.

This last year, that new owner with the white hair...don't remember his name I think it starts with an L? Anyways, he is rude and abnoxious. He looks like a slob, and so do most of his staff that work in the kitchen that I have seen. I think the owner is a cracker head and should learn how to treat customers. The pizza is alright.....but the store is always dirty looking, and the prices have gone up way to high...One time I ordered a pizza this last year for pick up and I got there had to wait an extra twenty minutes, only to have them screw my order up and have to wait another twenty. Also I have seen staff smoking inside and even saw someone in the kitchen hanging out drinking a beer....should that be even allowed in the kitchen that serves the public?????

Too bad such a good pizza place that once was has turned into such a dive....sure wish the old owner was there or at least someone who cares about their business.....
Alea Elliott
Always Great!. Awesome pizza. Loads of toppings, loads of cheese and it's not greasy. Paid $22 for an XL pizza, and between three people, there's pizza leftover, aka their pizza's are true to size (unlike some other pizza companies).

Building is nothing fancy, just a few ovens and a bunch of guys having a good time making pizza.

Definitely our "go-to" pizza place.
DillBurgar
The only bad thing about this pizza, is that it's so good all other pizza places will seem sub par.

Test of Time Turns Out To Be True. Lou Scalena & I ran the Tony's in North Kildonan and Transcona back in about the early 90s I guess, and I can tell you not much has changed, and that is a real good thing! The taste is still very much the same! Don had been running the Pembina location for a long time, up til about a year and a half ago, making pizza true to the Tony's original and it seems the new owner is keeping that up. Good stuff, man, kudos to you.

Had a medium Tony's Special and a Hawaiian tonight ($33 delivered, very reasonable) and they were as delicious as ever!! It was over an hour for delivery but I won't fault 'em cos it was SuperBowl. The only other thing was I had asked specially for side bacon on the Special and got the ham/back bacon (which, on the TRADITIONAL Tony's was ALWAYS side bacon!). I will allow that this was also just a case of being super busy. So I will give a 9/10 and look forward to returning! Soon!!
Cheers

Good quality pizza at a fair prices. What can you say about Tony's. it's a good eat, not your slap together chain shlog. Pretty consistent, how to describe it, close to a Gondola but more toppings and better quality. Price is the middle of the road. This is one of those places you hope will never go away.

4 out of 5 stars.

Best pizza in the city!. I've had a couple of different pizzas from Tony's. The only negative is that I didn't try it sooner. Great crust and combinations of toppings coupled with very reasonable prices make Tony's my go to pizza place.
Jessi
Simply The BEST!!!. I had to comment on what an amazing treat it was to have a Tony's pizza today... My girlfriend wanted to try something new considering I usually order my favorite Tony's "The Carnivore" pizza... I wasn't sure what we should order, so I asked Lonnie the owner (The Dude with the full head of white hair and glasses) for a suggestion... He recommended the Chicken Supreme... And OMG... What a tasty delight... I'm now on a mission to try every kind of pizza Tony's has... If they ever franchise, I want in... Tony's definitely has the BEST pizza in Manitoba!!!... Maybe even Canada
Joe Diner
It's like deja vu all over again. I've been eating Tony's since it was Tony's back in the day. I gotta have one a month, it takes me way back to..... well, you know. Some special food just makes ya think. This is a good old school pizza and I am stuck on the traditional toppings, it's about the memories..... like the time...... dark lane.....steamy car......police.......ya want a slice officer.

This is good consistent pizza, if you don't like it, your influenced by flavor of the month.
Bltandsoup
Took over an hour to deliver but the pizza is amazing, worth every penny, won't be ordering 222 anymore.
Pizza Junkies
Love it!. I was introduced to this pizza in the last year, and have had it several times. I have never been disappointed! Always fresh and hot! Try the special! Great job!
I'm Nobody And Nobody Is Perfect
Tony s master of pizza, not anymore. Ordered two 13" specials and there was nothing special about them. The dough was old, probably there from previous day, the back bacon looked and tasted like sandwich meat ham and pepperoni is very poor quality. One of the pies had a pool of liquid and grease in middle,I remember in days of old when they would put a doughball in center to alleviate this problem.Took an hour for delivery would not recommend this place at all,for the price there are definitely many other choices.
NR
Great pizza every time. I order from Tony's on a regular basis. It's near my office but I will drive across the city to get it if I'm at home. I cant' say enough about this place, I've never had a bad pizza from Tony's. They are generous with toppings, the crust is the perfect balance between thin and thick. The tomato sauce is excellent, as is the quality of all the toppings they use. Service is fast and friendly, and you can't beat the price for the size of pizza you get. Pepperoni and mushroom or the Tony's special are my favourites, but you can't go wrong with anything you order from this place.
John Kane
Good pizza. One of my favorite places to order from. Not a huge fan of their pepperoni or salami but love the spicy eggplant with back bacon and tomato. My girlfriend loves their Hawaiian
Sandra
Amazing!. Wow. They really mean it when they call it the 'master of pizza'! I won't recommend a specific type of pie, because they're all worth trying. They give you a good amount of toppings and don't overdo it with the sauce. I've yet to experience something burnt from Tony's, too. They may not look impressive at a glance, but if you're a fan of quality pizza, give Tony's a try.
Pizza King
Good, just doesn't really stand out. I decided to try something new, and after searching through urbanspoon came upon Tony's Pizza which had high but few ratings.

Now first and foremost and this will NOT affect my review really in anyway but I think the people who work there should really learn how to cover the phone when talking to other staff in the background. Things like "the building there in is really sketchy, should we even bother delivering there" should not be heard by the customer. It would be one thing to at least try and cover the phone, but it was not even muffled. It sounded as if someone moved the phone a foot or so away from there mouth and started yelling to the other guy

As for the food... I ordered a 17" mushroom, side bacon, sausage and extra cheese

Pros:
Pizza was hot, had plenty of fresh toppings, sauce was tasty, wish I had ordered extra sauce actually. The crust was good had crunchy ends which were actually starting to burn but I did not mind at all the thin black ring around the pizza. At most places i tend to order pizza well done anyways, as to not get something rushed out and under cooked.
The sausage tasted like no other I have ever had on a pizza. It was tasty with just enough zing to not over power any other topping. The price was very reasonable too at 35$ for a 17" pizza with 4 toppings, a 2L pop, and a tip for the driver of course

Cons:
Grease mania. I sometimes pat down pizza with a paper towel but needed more then usual to pat down this bad boy. The bacon seems close to raw like when most pizza places become lazy, put it on raw and expect an oven to both cook and crisp it properly. That probably helped add to the extra grease.

The Final Slice:
I don"t think I will be ordering from there again, not to say that I did not like it, I did in fact enjoy it, its just that other then the sausage, it tasted like I had, had it before, when in fact I had not. And whenever your paying 30$ for a pizza there should be something about it that really stands out, other then employees not at all covering the phone before deciding to deliver This was not the case here.

If you enjoyed this review, feel free to add me on twitter @Wpg_Pizza_King where I will try and review at very least 2 pizza places a month and where you can help me decide where to get that great pie next.
Dingo
Suuuuperb. Try the eggplant, side bacon and sausage pizza. So good that I had one for breakfast, lunch, and supper. Giddee up!!
Ted Harpley
Awsome!. Its the best pizza in the world! Their driver Ted is a great looking man and a great friendly driver as well.It is even better with the new owners. They put on even more toppings. Keep up the good work guys!
Bwr827
The best. Tony's lives up to its name (Master of Pizza). Crust is the perfect thickness, with just the right amount of flavour, and the toppings are great. I always ask for a little extra sauce, because I love those little saucy spots on the pie. Try a pep and pineapple!
Drew
Probably the best pizza in the city, and I've had my fair share of pizzas. Get the Tonys special and you will NOT be disappointed.
Adrian
The sauce was tasty but didn't dominate the flavor of the food. The crust was deliciously fatty. The pizzas were clearly made with care and attention and they tasted great.

All ingredients are fresh in a competently made pizza; however, the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts and this pizza exceeds the ingredient descriptions
