Review Earls - Winnipeg

Leena Regi Saleth
Lovely lively place to spend time with some good food! Hands down the crab cakes that we had was the best one that I have had so far. A bit disappointed with the portion of the dessert, as during the previous visit, the cake was sumptuous but this time it was just half of the original.

Happy Hour The Happy Hour pricing is right on par, the freshness and taste is not compromised, and you will leave with a smile. I enjoyed the crispy prawn sushi tacos and a raspberry mojito on the patio on a beautiful afternoon. The tacos were excellent, and you can never go wrong with a refreshing mojito either!

Good brunch. Our eggs Benedict was so good and the potatoes were yummy too. Hostess was very friendly and accommodating. Our server was nice as well. I like their new way of payment. Easy access by scanning the code. No need to wait.

I went on for dine in and had a good experience. I ordered Garlic Prawn Spaghettini and Warm Spinach + Three Cheese Dip. The staff were nice and had good customer service. The only critique I have is that the pasta felt dry and oily. I also found the garlic bread to have too much oil too. Overall, I liked the food.

I definitely prefer St.Vital location to any other.(I haven’t been to the new Main Street yet) The ambiance and decor is really nice, you can dress formally or casually. Earls in general I love the 9pm Happy Hour tons of choices and the drinks are very affordable for a night out. The brunch Happy Hour however has room for improvement. Very little options on the brunch menu, the prices are similar to brunch restaurants but the serving size is very small. The brunch cold brew coffee is really delicious though. I won’t go back for Brunch, but I will continue to visit 9pm Happy Hour in the future.

My girlfriend and I had a pleasant evening at Earl’s on St. Mary’s. I had the Mother Earth Bowl with chicken while my girlfriend had the Spinach Dip. Not only did we enjoy delicious food, we also had the pleasure of having Andre as our server for the evening. Andre was an outstanding server, he was very friendly right from the beginning to the end of our visit. Andre was very assertive and professional while also maintaining casual, friendly and laidback conversation. He made sure to keep us informed of the restaurant’s specials and would make regular stops by our table in between other guests to ensure we were satisfied with our orders and looked to see if we required anything else. It is safe to say that thanks to Andre, my girlfriend and I were very satisfied with our visit at Earl’s on St. Mary’s and we will definitely be returning.

Me and my lady took our 14 month old daughter to Earl's. It was happy hour the prices were really good. The food was great and the staff was really nice. They even had a really sweet table mounting high chair. The service was fast too and the executive chef came made our daughter some awesome broccoli and yams. Very friendly!

Fantastic experience at Earl’s St Vital! I always enjoy going to earl’s, but my last visit was exceptionally great! I went for a lunch date with a friend and brought along my 7 month old daughter. I was a little nervous about bringing her and wasn’t sure what to expect. They made sure to seat us where we had AMPLE space and even offered me a space to store my stroller. Then one of the chefs even came to our table to ask if my daughter needed any special food made for her! They definitely put my mind at ease :)

Great place, great food and reasonably priced menu. Made my reservation on line with a special request and everything was as planned. I would definitely recommend.

While I am glad they brought the Hunan Stir Fry back to the menu, they do need to step up their service. We were seated promptly but our server wasn't the most astute. She was nice, but not the most attentive or knowledgeable server, which was annoying. Earls needs to train their servers to provide top notch customer service at all times. Knowledge of menu, ingredients etc is key.

This place was absolutely aweful , food came out cold and under cooked not once but two times . Tryed to talk to a manager but none would come over , compared to the other earls I have been to this was a aweful experience .

Brought mom for mother's day lunch and had our meal comped only because food was not quite warm enough. Service and food were otherwise excellent, and this just reinforces and confirms to us that Earls is still one of the top restaurants in Winnipeg. Thanks Earls, see you again soon!

My waitress was very kind and attentive and her service was great. The food was very good. A positive experience!

When we got there the restaurant was busy and there were no tables available on the lounge side so we asked to sit at the bar. When we got to the bar a waitress said the table right behind us was opening soon. A few minutes later the customers left. I asked her if we could go to the table now. She said yes. So I moved our pitcher of draft and our glasses to the table. I then cleared the table of dishes that were still on it. No one came to take our order. I went back to the bar and asked if he could find us a waitress and someone to come and wash our table. Once someone was found and came to us our table was cleaned (after we asked again). Service moving forward was good and our food was quick and very good.

Over all experience was very good; the service, the food the coffee, the atmosphere, my attitude & my company.

I had a great experience at Earls St Vital yesterday!! I ordered the Santa Fay Chicken salad and it was fabulous!! I will definitely go there again!! Great service as well!!

This is a place that has little to no regard for their customers. On possibly the loveliest evening so far this summer (July 4th), they we're turning customers away in droves because they refused to open the open patio due to "rain in the morning" (don't laugh, really, this was their excuse). The chairs were that faux plastic wicker, and the tables glistened. Everything was bone dry. If they were understaffed or something else, fine. But don't make stuff up. If someone's sick, fine. If you underestimated demand, fine. Don't skirt responsibility by blaming nature. Who taught them this! Don't ever condescend to your customers. That's the death knoll of any business (just ask the sad folk that used to run the Earl's on Pembina). There's no way we were going to wait there - even for 20 minutes to eat inside. Winnipeg has too many options. We ended up at the new Fionn's at Grant Park. So glad we did. The food... and especially the service was awesome. I'll be back. I've still never tried Earl's St. Vital. I guess I never will.

The Manager and staff at this location are fantastic! I had an issue with an item being taken off the menu and the manager(Kevin) did an amazing job making sure I did not go away upset. Will definitely be coming back.
Melanie Vanderhorst
The people at Earl's St. Vital are very courteous. They try to meet everyone's needs (as long the customers aren't too demanding) with professionalism.
Maureen Tanghe
I like Earl's but I think they could of given a flower or small plant to mothers on Mother's Day. Moxie's always do but I thought this year we would try Earl's.Nothing special for us mom's. Disappointed 😔

Amazing brunch ! And a incredible crew .... can't wait for another visit!

Went to earls for a friends birthday. I’d never been to earls St vital before but the staff was really nice, i believe our server was Charmaine or Champagne? Drinks arrived quickly and the food was great quality for how cheap it was! Wish i knew about this gem sooner.

Don't really go to Earls, but was near the vital mall so why not. Grabbed the nachos off the menu and absolutely loved it. The server was super friendly and helpful and the bar man, what a guy! Think his name was Joel or Joe, but got talking and he was genuinely interested and really down to earth dude to yarn too. So food was 5/5, service was 6/5 and Joels and the Earls staff was 10/5. Great job Earls st vital!

I have been to Earl's for brunch on the weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it (5 stars!)  I will definitely return.<br/><br/>Last night I came with 6 friends.  It was Saturday night, after a Bomber game, and they were mega-busy.<br/><br/>The food was good, with generous portions.  It was presented very well.<br/><br/>We had some issues during the course of the evening, but we were celebrating my birthday, so we had a good time anyway. <br/><br/>What completely impressed me, was how the manager handled everything.  Kevin was excellent!  He was kind and courteous, and it was obvious that he honestly cared about his customers; something in this day and age that is wonderful to see.  He came to our table several times, and did his utmost to ensure that we had a positive and memorable experience at Earl's.  He succeeded.  (And that was before he even knew that we were there for a special occasion.)<br/><br/>Thanks again!<br/>J

Came here for drinks and snacks and everything was very good.  We had calamari, hot wings, dynamite roll, and spinach dip and everything was tasty.  Service was also very good.  As always the atmosphere is amped and loud but it was expected.  I'll be back.

We went for a large family dinner to celebrate a retirement. Everyone's food was good, the kid's meals came out ahead of everyone else's which was also nice. The bigger better burger was great as always, and the bartender made a decent old fashioned.<br/>The only thing I'd like to see before we return is a few options specifically for the kids. I know this isn't typically a place to bring kids, but sometimes it's nice to bring them to a nicer restaurant, and food tailored to them would definitely bring our large family there more often.
Yer Lil' Cannoli
Made it for happy hour and we ordered 2 orders of the coconut shrimp, garlic fries, and dry ribs. It was great service and pretty good food. The fries were slightly soggy but still flavorful, the ribs were pink and some blood so they re-fired them and took them off our bill which was very considerate, and we really appreciate that thank you.

Came with a bunch of colleagues for a quick lunch. Service at Earls is generally exactly as expected. You are greeted with extremely attractive wait staff and generally have to try and talk over a very high energy (loud) atmosphere.<br/><br/>Thing is, Earls does seem to serve pretty decent food. I've been to Earls many times for business meals, after work drinks and various birthdays/celebration. I honestly can't recall a time in which I was unhappy with my meal!<br/><br/>On this last visit, I ordered the Bim Bim Bap. Traditionally, it is a bowl of rice served in an earthen ware pot with sliced meats and vegetables and a runny egg. The pot is searing hot and you toss the rice around to cook the egg and rest of the ingredients. Earls take on this is anything but traditional and tastes excellent.<br/><br/>

Went in the lounge last night. Watched one server stand with her friends at the bar looking at their computer. Another girl was visiting with some friends at their booth. Fifteen minutes go by and nobody comes to take my order. I put my jacket on to leave. I told the hostess at the front what had happened. She says "ok". I kind of figured she would say. Please don't go, or let me get someone for you, my apologies. Nothing at all. I used to go here frequently but wont be back...

----06-APR-2017-----<br/>WELL! I  took management up on the offer posted in my comments and dinned in the restaurant to try the burgers again. I must say that I do love the service when dinning in an earls establishment, and the burgers were much fresher this time. I also tried the clam chowder this time and it was very good (not too thick, as it can sometimes be). However, the onion ring on my burger was burnt (even though they had me marked this night as VIP, I'm sure), and the bun STILL fell apart as it did the first time. <br/><br/>I'm pleased with the effort and did not expect it at all; management really went above and beyond, so I am upgrading my review from a 2.5 to a 3.5. <br/><br/>-----08-MAR-2017-----<br/> My husband is from California and obsessed with the fact that some locations have an uppercase E and others do not. So tonight we ordered from Skip-The-Dishes and he was convinced this would be something great...<br/><br/>We ordered burgers... mine with a tomato soup and his with yam fries...<br/><br/>The bun on this burger is way too dense, the patty is mediocre at best and the bacon under-cooked. The tomato soup was way under-seasoned and a lot like pasta sauce... I added mass amounts of salt and pepper and my own parm... and it was still disappointing.<br/><br/>Not worth the 40 dollar price tag for two mediocre burgers that Wendy's could beat.

Best Caesar's ever! Always good service and great food. I really like how the Chef will come around the restaurant every once and while and ask how the food is!

Came to this restaurant last night with the boyfriend. The servers were on point with their service and the food was delicious. We had the dessert (forgot what it was called) and it was very rich and savoury. Loved it. I definitely recommend!
Melody
An okay spot if you want to go grab a drink but it's a typical experience for this type of chain restaurant.  I've had extremely poor service here, and the food is nothing special.  The patio at this location decent for the summer.
Peter Cavey
The service was friendly, fast, and the food was amazing. We started with the chicken wontons which were plentiful in portion and the wontons were perfectly crispy. I got the blackened chicken which tasted amazing paired with the loaded potatoes and coleslaw. Great value for the portion sizes here I must say! Definitely love this location too the atmosphere is beautiful!
Stone Cold Steve Austin
The menu was small and unappealing. The waitress seemed unhappy and inattentive. It was almost as if she didn't want to be there. I must say the spinach dip was top notch, didn't mind the beer either. Stunner OUT!
Foodster
Sat on the patio on Sunday afternoon and it was fairly busy, our server Jade did an outstanding job to accommodate us. Food arrived quickly and was steaming hot and delicious. This spot has become my "go to" place to chill and have a bite to eat.

Interesting as most of this is my experience. My friend and I used to go there all the time for lunch but you could just feel it go downhill in service and quality of food. Too bad. We go to big guys now.
Craig Adam
Sure, it's a chain, but this location is a good one. Tried their summer menu, specials on Sunday and Monday only. Nachos were not what I expected, but we're actually really good.
Deliciousfoodomg
No.. Simply the worst service. Went on a midday weekend and there were only a handful of people in the lounge and 4-5 employees. Took over 30 minutes to get a re-fill on bread for our dip. Terrible service and overpriced food.
Mike
Dropping utensils on the floor was their way of providing music to us customers.
Anne Gasset
Overpriced. As much as my friends love Earls, for what you get, it's overpriced. Not a fan and probably won't be coming back.
Prips
Good Service. Nice selection of wines.Food is just OK. We will be back.

Not like it used to be. Went for lunch today with my two kids, no alcohol bill came to $97.00 overpriced for what you are getting. ambiance in nice and modern, eggs benedict vinegary and potatoes overdone. Ordered two salads extremely over priced, not even a side of bread with salad, best thing was the hamburger and sundae my kids had! will not be returning any time soon. Disappointed to what Earls used to serve Trying to re-invent for the purpose of change!

Spiraling into oblivion. Ueed to have great fresh fare, now frozen to fryer across the board, heavily watered drinks, greasy stale toast replaced the fresh rosemary pan bread etc. Clearly some beancounters have 'figured out' how to jack up their margins...what they never serm to figure out is everyone has the ability to bypass their bad decisions altogether and simply move on to better establishments that still get it...and do in droves. Went on a friday evening where you used to have to brave a lineup to enjoy their food to a half empty building with the few remaining patrons all grumbling about the cold greasy reheated food and bad drinks. One even brought in a McDonalds bag from the arches next door and proclaimed he 'found the solution for getting hot food at Earls patio again!"...ouch.

Very Pricey!. Myself and 2 friends and went for appetizers, drinks, and dessert as we did not feel up to having whole meals. Coming in, we waited in the waiting area just outside of the main dining area for a good 10 minutes. Which would not have been a problem if there were more than 3 tables in the dining room. Eventually, another table came in behind us at which point we were both seated. The first thing I thought when seeing the place: the restaurant was boring. They tried to make it fancy but it's not fancy, it's more overdone. Our server was nice but really not interested in us as a person. She was prompt, not too chatty, kind of meeting the requirements of her job. We had 3 appetizers; 3 Cheese Spinach Dip ($11.75), Yam Fries ($8.50), and Wonton Chicken ($11.50). I didn't eat the Chicken Wonton because I am a vegetarian but the Spinach dip was pretty good! It didn't come with enough bread though. The Yam Fries were alright, nothing special and definitely not worth $8.50 for just over a handful. I had 2 glasses of 9 oz wine ($12.75 x 2 = $25.25); the wine menu was extensive and I appreciated that a lot. It was on the more expensive side as well ($9.75-the cheapest-for 6oz) whereas other places (ex. Rudy's Eat and Drink, 529) charge between $6-7.50 for 5oz. Finally, we had Chocolate Sticky Toffee Pudding ($8.00), which was probably the best part of the meal. My bill (after splitting the appetizers) came to roughly $45 before 15% tip. <br/>I guess if you want to spend A LOT of money on OKAY food, it's great. But I frankly am not going to pay that much for appetizers, drinks, and dessert.

Love the Bigger Better bacon burger!

Dirty. My husband and I we.... Dirty. <br/>My husband and I went for lunch (our 2.5 yr old daughter and sleeping infant came too). The kids were not an issue, and the food was pretty good (VERY overpriced). <br/>The wine glasses on your table were not just extremely water spotted, but also felt gritty on the outside. The wine I ordered came in an equally yucky carafe. When I brought it to our servers attention she didn't even say sorry, just left to replace it. She came back with an ultra streaky glass, obviously just rinsing the one I just sent back. I asked for another and third time it was finally clean. Worst part was the server never said sorry and acted like I was an inconvenience. Also, the decorative glass wine-walls were splattered and nasty. Not going back.

Great food, relaxing ambiance and very good service. We are very satisfied with what we experienced tonight. All the staff was very pleasant and welcoming. The server we had was very knowledgable with the menu, she even gave us suggestions with what kind of wine will be good with our entree. Even the chef came out to explain to us how they prepare the steak that we will choose. The RibEye steak I had was really really good, very tasty and (most important) it was cooked to my liking. I had few bad experience from other Steakhouse here in the city so this was a good change for me. The sides are just as great. I recommend the potato salad (with bacon!) it was really yummy! Also if you're craving for something sweet I recommend the chocolate banana cake for dessert, it's really delicious :) *two thumbs up!*

I highly recommend the calamari AMAZING

I think Earl's restaurants in general are overrated. Their food may taste good, but it is far from spectacular. Way too overpriced for the amount you get and the menu doesn't change enough meaning there is not enough options. I typically find the Pembina location to be the worst one to go to.I repeatedly have problems there whether it be with service, wrong orders, billing problems or long wait. Earl's is known for their attractive servers, and their waitresses dress in the smallest skirts possible. During hiring it is obvious they go for appearance before qualification. Overall, try it for the hell of it once, but wouldn't go there often at all.

Bootylicious?. I am not going to review the food as it was great but instead reviewing the service. From the moment i walked in and saw the hostess to seeing all the servers i was convinced at first i walked in a brothel. Every female employee was dressed like a prostitute. My own server had dropped a fork and bent over to pick it up and her very short skirt pulled up above her hips exposing her g-string...fishing for tips are you? To add to it, our waitress was so ditsy it just added to the stereotype. I'll go back but next time with my friends instead of my wife so i dont feel so uncomfortable. lol

We went to earls for lobster dinner and it was awesome. The lobster was part of the Alexander Keith's bday celebration, it was flown in from Nova Scotia. The lobster was so fresh and cooked perfectly. It also came with fresh corn on the cob and nice sized shrimp. The best part of the dinner was that it was $25. Where else can you get a lobster dinner for that? This was a special promotion and they don't have this deal on all the time. I understand they have it every year. Service was good and the atmosphere was lots of fun. Everyone had a great time.

Very Good. My wife and I were there on Saturday evening for supper. We were given a gift card from a friend and were very presently surprised by the great service and good food. We had a 30 minute wait and the hostess's were very attentive. We could have been seated earlier in the bar part but we wanted a quieter dinner in the dining area. It was worth the wait.<br/><br/>The waitress was excellent. We had a great spinach/feta appetizer. I had the chicken parmesan and my wife had the pizza - both were flavourful and tasty.<br/><br/>We would certainly recommend Earl's St. Vital for a nice dinner out.

Dollars!!!. My opinion is that there are handcrafted meals being served in this city for way less money. And if you feel like spending this amount, there are definitely better choices. Not worth it.

Meh.... I generally try to stay away from these types of restaurants, but sometimes go to them as a last resort. The menu is unimpressive, but the staff is generally willing to make something to suit individuals tastes (so I give them points for that).

Won't be going back. Bad service + mediocre food = poor experience. They really do hire their servers based on looks and little else. She was only at our table maybe twice and still managed to annoy me. My family visiting from LA was very disappointed.

Ummm okay.... So first of all...I'm new to the Urban spoon writing reviews thing...I've only written one other for C. Kelekis, which I really liked, but Earl's....Well, okay, I've been before, but the last time the food was much better...this time, I waited almost ten minutes for my drinks, and then ordered the Thai Salad which had the most limp lettuce and dry tasteless chicken I've ever had...Really unimpressed....the atmosphere was good, and the decor very nice, but I'd rather sacrifice the atmosphere for good food and decent service!!!
Lo-Lo
Inkster. My husband and I have been frequent patrons of the Earl's on St. Mary's Road (St. Vital). The prices keep increasing and the quality of food is on a slipperly slope. Just went there on November 24th for a birthday. Ordered the shrimp sushi type appie and the rice was so dry, the chopsticks were impossible to use. A fork and a knife made a big mess - very dry and would not order again,. My entree was the cedar plank salmon. I asked the server what the seasonal veggies were, and she said beets and zuchinni and it came with a few fingerling potatoes. Okay, so the salmon was about 24 bucks - the size of the palm of my hand and cold. The veggies were sweet potatoes with ONE small slice of beet and a few dry fingerling potatoes. (wtf - what happened to the zuchinni and beets ?) Our server did not come back for about 15 minutes. When she did she asked if everything was okay. I replied that I did not have any green vegs, 1 quarter sized beet, two pieces of sweet potatoe and more white (cold potatoes). She said nothing except, "how do you li ke the salmon"..... Good thing we had the dried out rice sushi and a caesar salad before dinner. By the way, my husband had the kung pao with chicken. HAVE YOU SEEN THE SODIUM IN THIS ???? almost THREE DAYS WORTH.......Have been going to this place regularly since it opened. Each time, the food quality/quantity, prices and service have declined. <br/>The last time we were there in November, it was very very slow. My husband was trying to get our server's (or any server's attention) to ask for proper cutlery, some pepper and gee may be a clean wine glass without lipstick (his beer glass was also cracked in half). Man, you guys have a gold mine, step up to the plate for chrissake and maybe we will be back and will AGAIN recommend this place to family and friends
Ria
Very Nice!. I've had a few good meals there and can't complain. They have managed to start making some very flavourful food. Their Los Cabos Tacos are delish! Jeera Chicken Curry surprisingly good for a restaurant not known for it's Indian food. Will never be my first choice but have enjoyed it the last few times I've been there.

Awesome food.

Have you experienced when a restaurant just falls off of your radar  In the advertising business this is known as “erosion of top of mind awareness”.  There was a time when Earl’s was one of the highest restaurants on my hit list.  D, Daughter #1 and I liked to stop in for Margarita Mondays.  I loved the patio on Main to catch some rays at lunch time and the St. Vital Earl’s was the first place I ever tasted a Bento Box.  We used to meet clients at the very first Earl’s at Polo Park (on St. James where Tony Roma’s is now) and I would always order the Californian Shrimp Pesto Pizza.  In those days it seemed as if Earl’s had the corner on fresh, premium ingredients and a light-handed cooking style. So did we just outgrow Earls or did something change? For us, it was this:  My birthday is at the end of May and often heralds the beginning of those surprizingly hot summer days.  About Easter, I start thinking about how I would like to celebrate with my family and what patio we will assemble
