I was just here last night for the first time in a long time and contrary to my previous visits, I had an overall excellent experience from 8pm until almost 2am. Our server Sara checked in on us regularly so we were never without drinks or water. Kudos to the guys behind the bar who never kept us waiting long, even though the lounge was full. Sara also efficiently cleared our empty plates and glasses so they didn’t pile up on the table.
As to the food, I ordered the gyro pita platter which I’ve had before and it was tasty as usual. They gave a huge portion of both fries and Greek salad which I could barely finish. The fries were a bit saltier than I’m used to, but that’s a minor thing and I still ate half of them. The others at my table were happy with their food as well, all of which came out quickly (chicken fettuccine al fredo, bruschetta, pickerel, chicken souvlaki).
In the past (as recently as two years ago), the lounge would add a $1 “entertainment charge” on karaoke nights, which they never used to do. I remember seeing this once on my receipt and thought it was total garbage, so I’m pleased that it no longer exists. Last night I spent $43.50 before taxes on my meal, drinks for myself, and one for my friend who was celebrating his birthday. The extra $1 on top of it, while fairly harmless, would have just been insulting and unnecessary.
I understand why this place got such low ratings and negative reviews as I had the same experiences in the past, but based on last night, I have to give them a positive review. Well done!
Went there last weekend, highlight of the night had to be the music. Nice atmosphere as well but had an incident that the management did not handle very well. Only thing that saved my night had to be the patio and the music!

So with a 1.9 rating at the time of our visit I really wasn't expecting much more than a great patio spot for a bevy. If you are ranking this place against a 5 star restaurant then I can see how you might come up short (less than a 2?!) but let's call this what it is people - a dive bar. And I felt it wasn't so bad.
Being from Alberta and suffering from a bit of PST shock we weren't overly enthused about paying $7.50 a pop(1 oz.) for a classic paralyzer so we opted for the pitcher (I was a bit wary but it turned out ok) $29 for 6 oz.
There was lots of ice and it didn't curdle so point there. Taste was good but I think it may be true what another reviewer said about the well alcohol being set at 3/4 an oz. as it was not very strong.
We shared the chicken pita platter with a side of tzatziki. The chicken was a bit tough but all in all I thought for $14 to include fries and salad it was a great deal. Lots of feta on the Greek salad and the tzatziki on the pita was generous. Everything was carefully put together and presented.
I really couldn't complain about our server - she was quick attentive and very friendly. I would say she was probably one of the best parts of our visit. That being said - I'm from Calgary where the service in pubs/bars is absolutely terrible.
I do have one small critique (as picture) the condiments could use a wash. Note to management!

Best frickin nachos in Winnipeg. Huge portion and the beef was soooo flavourful! The servers were so helpful and kind. My gf was like totally super into them. Yay thank saffrons!
I wanted to treat my out of town guest to a special lunch in Winnipeg and am very pleased we chose Saffrons. Its cozy, classy environment and Aisha our server, was fantastic. She laughed right a lot with us and made our lunch that much more special. The mushroom soup was delicious. plus live music. My guest was very impressed. I would definitely return to this establishment.
We came to eat on the patio on Friday night. It was great. The weather was nice, the drinks were fabulous. The service was okay. We asked to switch to a table closer to the street and they helped us. The food was pretty good. I wouldn't recommend the calamari but the spring rolls and nacho platter were awesome. We loved out bulldogs and beasers. A nice place to sit on a summer evening.
Great ahi tuna sandwich.
I would go just for that one item. It is crusted in black and white sesame seeds and was just awesome. Hopefully it is a consistent item as I've only had it once.
Patio service is ok.

SwizzleStyx. Our group had a fabulous lunch out on the patio at Saffron's today! We started with wine and nachos and I must say the nachos were some of the best I've had, very generous with the toppings. We had Greek salad, lettuce wraps, saffron mussels, and the pickerel salad and all were delicious. Service wasn't great but it was OK, we will be back.
July2016 - We were back again and it was excellent, such a nice patio on a great day. We had pasta, fusion salmon salad, chicken souvlaki, Greek salad, calamari, everything was good.
July2017 - The Swizzle Styx dined here this week and once again it was excellent. We had the pickerel salad, salmon fusion salad, fish & chips, fish tacos and all dishes were delicious and generous portions. Had a beautiful day for their fabulous patio, we will be back😊
Quick service. Delicious gluten free crust, tenderloin and tossed salad. Perfect intimate pizza joint. Karaoke was on the bar side and it was fun to listen to. I went here in the summer and didn't have a great experience in the patio but it definitely redeemed itself tonight
Excellent lunch spot. I have been here before but never really tried anything other than Greek salad with chicken. I decided to have the chili chicken wrap and it was so good, it's prob the best wrap I've had in a long time, I don't know if it's new on the menu but I wish id seen it sooner!!
Def b bac :). Great food! Very friendly staff. I eat there pretty often n it's always great. And it def help to not worry about finding parking since there one of the few places on corydon with a parking lot.
Fantastic Food. Just joined urban spoon,, it has helped our dinner club some of the time pick a place. Basically we are a group of 22 that pick a restaurant every month. Since Saffrons has been my favorite place for at least 16 years.. I decided to to bring them to Saffrons last week. Not only did we get fantastic service , the owner bought us ALL a drink.. He has always treated my family and I with such a warm hospitable welcome. I feel it's time I express this.. Our group enjoyed the tortellini Baronessa, the spicey penne Bomb( my favorite for years) the calamari was a huge hit we ordered 4 orders,,, mussels in a creamy saffron sauce... And 3 raved about the dinner special I think it was a steak with prawns... Oh and the WOW factor was the bull dog margarita with a corona in it :)) tell me when how often can a group of 22 go out and have nothing go wrong or forgotten.
On the first date night since marriage, saffrons was our nom de plata. Although a hiccup at the bar left my white Russian tasting very milky, the very charismatic owner John, rectified this right off the bat. Amazing service ensued. Margherita pizza was ordered and delivered promptly to my still blushing bride and I. The owner, from what I gathered over tequila with his gorgeous missus, instills pride over this locale. Doesn't seem like a Winnipeg restaurant, should have been an upscale Milan ristourante. Could not have walked away happier.
I Read all the bas reviews about Saffron's , I'm very surprise, because I found it excellent. The service was perfect, very professional waitress and my food was excellent. I had oysters, just WOW, and their wings, lemon pepper, the best I ever had. I had the same best service they offer in NYC, Montréal, Québec or Toronto ...I ll make the detour to go there again. I ll give them a 5 for That night.

Private Dinner Event. We recently had a rehearsal dinner at Saffron's for out of town guests, family and our wedding party just prior to my daughter's wedding.We totally filled the restaurant and we would like to commend Natasha and her staff for providing us with exceptional service and great tasting food.
We found the restaurant was very acommodating as we were planning the event and met all our requests such as menu choices, beverage service,and dessert selecton. Custom menus were printed for our guests and all the meals were brought out in a timely fashion. It was very hectic for the servers but they remained cheerful throughout the evening and I did not receive any unfavorable feedback from our guests.
It is sometimes difficult to find a venue for 60 people. I would highly recommend Saffron's for a private function. Our experience was very positive and I would not hesitate to refer this restaurant to my family and friends.
Been coming for lunches for the past month now and nothing bad to say. Everything has been top notch always love it keep it up

I love sitting on patios and I liked saffrons ! Espically with the background noise of corydon! Food was decent, came out pretty quick! As for the staff, our server was acting really fake! The girl who sat us kept looking at her reflection in the mirror she how she looked! And they have their staff sanding leaning on tables waiting for people to finish food so they could clear plates, it was just to weird and not professional!

Great for Large Party. I have not been on Saffron's patio too often so I cannot comment on the service out there. What I can report on though is my experience having a large party inside last May. First, my bf and I were looking for a venue for roughly 50 people for dinner, on a Friday night. Most places in the city could either not accomodate that number of people, or wouldn't because it was a Friday night and "would take away from business". Then there were places like Hermanos who only offered eia 5:30 seating and said we would all have to be out by 8 (yeah right). Sure, we could of gone somewhere like a banquet hall but those ones required everyone to eat the same expensive meal--not happening. Finally, I decided to randomly try Saffron's just to see. The next night we met with the owner who helped us select a smaller choice of entrees and seating arrangements. The indoor part of the restaurant was just the right size and he did not mind renting out the entire space all Friday night since most business is done on the patio.
Long story short, we had about 50 people for dinner at Saffron's. The owner typed up the smaller menus and had them waiting on each already organized table when we arrived. Our service was great and everyone (that I heard from) enjoyed the food (especially the chicken saffron MMM!). The staff all did an amazing job to make it a great and memorable evening!! So while I cannot comment on the patio side, for this large, indoor gathering I have no complaints and would not hesitate to recommend them for large parties.
So-so. My boyfriend and I went here one evening and had a couple beers and each the pickrel entree. Definately over-priced for the portions they serve but the pickrel was friggin delicious. I've caught pickrel and fried it up within an hour of pulling it out of the lake so I know what fresh pickrel should taste like, and this was pretty much on par. I'd give it another go despite the other reviews on here that are not so great.
Awesome. The experience I have there and always have there is amazing. And you definatley need to give a place more than one shot Ive eaten at some of wpgs finest and had overcooked food and bland tastes but sh*t happens. To the lady who wrote that extensive review, I am a frequent diner at many restaurants of all price ranges for the prices the portions are huge and the food has always been goood there pastas are amazing and so are there pizzas. FYI its not an Italian Restaurant it mediterranean They have everything on the menu I would recommend there Chicken Saffron entree so good. I also hear that they hired a new chef and that he is very talented so I cant wait to check it out.. Keep you posted on any new rests and bars!!
