Review Cafe 22 - Winnipeg

Just went to this place today. Was really looking forward to a variety of cuisine. A great place which was really packed, which indicates it's popularity. Has a really ranged menu, focused on Italian cuisine. The Alfredo Fettuccine pasta was a standout. The wings offered had a wide selection of sauces. Though something unique to try would be Applewood rub. Moreover the pizza has a wide option choice as well, the only sad part about it is it's portion, though the price is justified by its size. Moreover a wide range of drinks are offered, I tried Caesar for the first time in my life, though not a fan of tangy taste, it felt refreshing. The staff was friendly and great. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the place is rather conventional, though the quality is great all the products are easily available. But yeah it's a great place to go if you feel like trying Italian cuisine in a great vibe place.

Beautiful restaurant, the best pizza of any places I’ve ever tried. The place was full and we were placed in the lounge (which is the best area and has such a nice beautiful placement of plants). Prices are so low for the amazing quality; they got fire roasted pizzas and you can TASTE it. Also the waitress was very kind.

Pizza and Salads here are some of my favourites. I always get either the Cobb or Mista and for pizza the truffle or Italian are just amazing. Great patio on a sunny day and nice “evening feel” for a night out

I’ve walked by this place a lot and as a foodie, I decided to give this place a try. We ordered a classic burger and Tuscan chicken rose (pasta). My recommendation is to change the chef or make changes to the menu. After visiting this place, I felt like I am a 5 star chef 😂 Here is why the 2 stars: 1. 1 star for the waitress getting me my coffee right away and refilling them as appropriate 2. Presenting food appropriately Here is why this place didn’t receive the remaining 3 stars: 1. The burger came out like someone threw a patty from Costco into a pair of pretzel buns, the patty wasn’t really cooked, it looked more like they used air fryer 2. The pretzel bun was cold when I took the first bite as soon as I got it 3. The same goes to the potato wedges, undercooked 4. Pasta sauce was good but the chicken was undercooked 5. With 3 tables with guests and us being the second guest sat down, it took such a long time to receive a ‘half baked’ product didn’t provide that appetizing vibe. 6. The next table who ordered just the dessert left more than half not eaten avoided me from even considering for a dessert

Edit. Walked in and the vibe was back. It’s super cool and laid back. You can mask or not. No one felt bad. All good. Family pizza quick and hot. Owner always there making sure quality is good. Ate on the patio recently and my kids loved the wood fired pizza (4 cheese) and I loved the roasted beets with goat cheese.

Delicious pizza and wings at this restaurant. We have been a few times and have always enjoyed the food. You can design your own Stone Fired pizza, or choose from a few very good combinations. We ordered the Classic today - pepperoni and mushroom and basil on a San Marzano tomato sauce base with lots of cheese. We substituted the garlic oil for a balsamic vinegar drizzle on top - it was very nice. The basil was so fresh - a perfect topping on any pizza. My husband ordered the Calzone - designed his own - pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms and red peppers and cheese. Calzone was very good. We had an order of wings as an appetizer - Smoked Applewood rub was a very nice flavour. Wings were delicious. The servers are friendly. Atmosphere is great - nice music in the background, several large rounded booths, comfortable chairs, regular chairs and lounge type chairs. You can sit by the bar, and they have a patio open all summer. We would definitely go again.

Thankful for a late night drink with a show stopper of 'Cinnamon sticks' which was a delicious pizza. Mmm. Only complaint is of the young girls beside us, talking way too loudly about how much they hated their jobs... And then tried to recruit the server to come work at their restaurant!!

I went to Cafe 22 on April 2 to meet friends for a drink and some food. I arrived from work about a half hour after my friends, and had what proved to be a frustrating evening. I sat for 20 minutes before finally waving a server down to ask for a menu and a drink. The person I waved down informed us she was not our server, but said she would bring a menu and alert our server. I waited another 10 for the server to finally come and take a drink order... and then even more time for her to finally bring the drink and take the order. An hour after I arrived, I asked after my food - she seemed confused and said she would check with the kitchen - but named the wrong pizza order. I corrected her, she confirmed... and then after a further wait of about a half hour, when the food was finally delivered, the order was incorrect. I was at the restaurant for close to an hour and a half - and at that point I cancelled the pizza and we asked for a bill. The food at this restaurant might be good, but the services terrible. This is apparently well known by patrons - I heard the table next to us comment on the poor service. Our server was new, but she was not properly trained or supported, and our experience reflected that. It was unpleasant. Winnipeg is filled with restaurants that have both good food and excellent service - head for one of them and give this place a miss. Edit: I got a response asking that I contact the company at an e-mail to allow them to address the issue. I sent an e-mail and was asked what had happened. I gave a complete accounting in my review, but I provided it again via e-mail. The response felt canned: We are sorry, we take pride in our service, we will let the owner know. It was less than satisfactory. If you are invited to contact them, don't bother, it's a waste of time and energy.

Excellent and frendly service, stellar pizza! Went with a group of around 20, they were able to accomodate us (with advance notice of course). Looking forward to going back!

Great patio! Food and drinks came out super fast, probably since they place the orders on an iPad. Pizza and beats were good! Cesar salad had much dressing.

I have only ever ordered takeout at this location. From my understanding this is basically like any other number of Pizza Hotline’s in the city.

Service is as you’d expect. Pizza is also as you’d expect. Honestly, I come here for their amazing value. Their pizzas will feed A LOT of people for not a lot of money. I can’t say it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had, but for the price it certainly has its place!

The Swizzle Styx dined here this week & I must say I was pleasantly surprised! The decor & atmosphere was great and the service was very good. We had antipasto which was awesome, chicken wings which were good, and pizzas were outstanding. We will be back.

I keep wanting to love it and I keep being generally disappointed. Crust on calzone is chewy. Service is okay, but the menu is so confusing for building your own that even servers got confused.

This was a great place to enjoy a good pizza and drinks. Price is on par and food was excellent. I did have an issue tho as I had chicken on my pizza. Being a chef myself, my knowledge of food is very knowledgable. The chicken wasn't real, was a processed kind you get from McDonald's nuggets. Many restaurants will go this route to save money as there is a huge price difference between this and a chicken breast. The texture was awful so I mentioned it to our server which she sent the manager. He proceeded to tell me it was real chicken and kept arguing about it which is where I was beginning to get a bit frustrated. They did replace it with their "salad" chicken which turned out to be exactly what it should have been in the first place. After that, we finished our pizzas and it was well Balanced and full of flavor. This was my only downfall of this place. Overall good experience.

You get exactly what you pay for, not a health choice, but never once a disappointment. Moderation is the key with pizza and Hotline will suit your needs every step of the way. 211 orders on file! Well enjoyed with friends over beer or whatever pleasure you may indulge in; 222 be there for you.

The atmosphere is great! Very nice interior and friendly prompt staff. Gluten free pizza is delicious, even my fiance and his brother liked the gluten free crust more than their regular crust. Food is reasonably priced, however drinks are extremely expensive. My new favorite pizza place!

This was always a great place for a date night, and decided to try it now with the new renovations and expansion. We decided to sit out on the patio and I was noticing everyone had the stone fired pizza at there tables. Caesars were on special for $4! How can you not order it! So we ordered two Caesars and a stone fired margherita pizza. I have to say it was absolutely wonderful and the service was pleasant and very attentive ( I can't remember his name but young handsome black man....definitely get him as your server. The inside is very well designed spacious, chic and clean.... I do have to say though I miss the large tree with the patio lights and the chandelier curtained booths though (much more romantic and private) but beautiful non the less. The pizza was nice and crispy and chewy dough, might suggest a tad more salt in the sauce but we still loved it. Bill with taxes came to $22.60 for two cocktails and a pizza! We will definitely be going back again for date night! I didn't notice if they still had the antipasto platter from the old menu, but I hope they do and if not you can request it because it's fabulous!

New interior, reduced menu. I like the look, I don't like the menu. I had the bacon chicken ranch sandwich. Tiny cubes of chicken, diced bacon, lots of mozzarella. Not impressed. Asked for thin crust pizza for kids. Thick. Not impressed.

A pleasantly surprising upgrade to the cafe with the recent renovations. Good food and the service was okay. Very affordable. It was and continues to be my "cheap pizza" go to.

To start off the restaurant looks beautiful. But now for the rest.

I have only ever had bad experiences with this location.

Today the pizza was burnt. Yes it was free, but, if your new flagship product from your new flagship restaurant is burnt to one of your first customers through the door (I was 3rd) on your grand reopening, that doesn't really make me feel like you care.

For reference to the other bad experiences that I've had; Last year we ordered delivery, we tried to give the driver a $15 tip. He then proceeded to tell us how all the other staff complain and talk bad about having to deliver to us because we never tip well, in detail swearing and all. Another time yet again a delivery driver tried to run me off the road out front flipping me off and trying to break check me.

I will defiantly not be a returning costumer.

But like I said the new restaurant is beautiful.

Great place and environment . Beautifully build inside. Went to grab late night munchies with a friend . Not alot of vegetarian option but have good bar n crowd.

Nice decent place to eat pizza dinner at affordable price. Warm and friendly staff. The pepperoni pizza was good with abundant pepperoni and cheese toppings that goes well with ice cold beer. Nice cozy patio as well during summer. We'll be back.

My friend and I were just about to cancel dinner plans going down the Corydon strip, until we came upon this place. We knew it was part of Pizza Hotline, so we knew it is decently priced! $21 split between the both of us and still have left overs? Can't go wrong. :)

The waitress was nice and accommodating, the coolie dough cheese cake was the best part of the dinner. I am definitely coming back again to try the other stuff on the menu. I had the fettuccini chicken alfredo, pepperoni cheese sticks, and some type of vegetable pizza on a slab (of which name I cannot remember - same with the server's).

Overall experience was great. No complaint.

Always a great experience :). Café 22 Corydon is definitely a favourite spot of mine.
Cool atmosphere to pre game with some cheap drinks and great pizza, or a romantic date night.
The servers are all super friendly and really give great service. Very attentive every time I have gone.
AMAZING wine selection. Unlimited topping pizza including gluten free.. All of the old faves on the old menu seem to be back.
Also excited to see what happens with expansion.

15 Inch Unlimited Pizza. I am a pizza lover and let me tell ya this is the best pizza I've had. There are many pizza joints in Winnipeg and they all have something to offer but Cafe 22 is one of my top 2. I drive from Winnipeg Beach just to have one. Three different crusts, unlimited toppings, one price. Check out the toppings they have! Many of which you won't find anywhere else and these guys know how to make pizza. If you like thin try the Duram wheat crust. Unique flavor! Damn, I'm drooling just thinking about...must go get one! Try it, you won't be disappointed. One problem though, you have to go to the restaurant to get this one as you can't order it for delivery. Reason being it is also know as Pizza Hotline. These pizza;s are only offered in the restaurant. Best Cafe 22 is on Corydon.
Purpledreamer65
Dissapointed.. Service was awful, food was mediocre. Used to come in for our regular server who apparently doesn't work here anymore. Ordered a 15" pizza and the toppings were wrong. Our server seemed dazed and confused and looked like she belonged at a wax museum. Love the ambiance of the place but cant see myself coming back here to eat inside. Monday madness is the only day I will the heading to this establishment.

The Unlimited is BACK!!!!!!. OMG! I just went to Cafe 22 on Corydon last night...the 15 inch unlimited pizza is BACK! Thank you, thank you, thank you Cafe 22
Loved every bite, service was great! I will be back this weekend with my friends

New menu is overpriced and under sized. Used to be good value not anymore. Used to be best pizza on corydon. Terrible value now. Tell everyone you know.

Disappointing. I used to love Cafe 22!!! I still love thier quite, dim lighting seating, with magicll booths, trees and lighting.... BUT their NEW MENU stinks. They have gotten rid of the create your pasta menu, portions have become smaller, and their prices have gone up. The service is ok, but what bothered me the most, since I have food allergies, etc, I asked the OWNER if I could have one of the food items on the menu customized (very simple actually) , he refused to do it. I had a gluten free pizza, which i have to say is amazing, but pricey. My husband had the wings which were 8$ for 5 measly wings- rip off... I am just disappointed thats all, this used to be my favorite place for drinks, and lovely dinners

First time at this spot and it was awesome. Food was really good n server was actually refreshingly great. Super helpful n sweet which is not common now a days. The meatball is to die for and the calzones are unreal. Great spot for a first date or hang out n Lounge away from hustle of an over crowded lounge.

I just found this place in early May 2013 and thought I found a gold mine. You could get a 15" pizza with unlimited toppings which could easily be shared by two. Pizza was great as you also had a choice of three types of crusts. It was a great deal for the price and what you got as you got more than your money's worth with quantity and quality. But then on a return visit near the end of May 2013 they were no longer serving the 15" pizza but cut it down to a 10". The 10" is barely enough for one and the price was only slightly less. Sad to say I will not be going back as my gold mine turned into Fools Gold.

Ugliest uniforms everrrrr!!! I feel so sorry for all the nice attentive girls who have to wear those hideous things. I don't know whose decision it was to implement these or where they bought those damn things but it's making me seriously think about ever stepping foot in that place again. Oh ya an your commercials suck.
Winnipeg FTW
Keep Coming Back. A friend introduced me to this place at the end of this summer and I keep going back. The atmosphere is wonderful, food tastes great, and a variety of options at the bar. Food and drinks are incredibly cheap so it is a great place to go if you like going out but don't want to spend to much money. Nice place in a nice neighborhood.

New favourite restaurant!!!. Tried cafe 22 for the first time last weekend, My friend had suggested it for our girls night out cause of their great selections of wine. It is so classy inside! The service was great, our server was always smiling and had an awesome personality she suggested we try the tuscan chicken penne pasta. OMG it was to die for! definitely going back all the time, cafe 22 gets a 10 out of 10 in my books.

Great Pizza, Delicious.. Never disappointing. One of the my favorit place.

Great pizza, great service. I went to cafe 22 for the first time for lunch about two months ago and my server was so good! she answered all our questions about the menu and served us as if we were regulars. We went back the next week- she remembered us and the pizza we ordered from the week before (combination pizza with hot banana peppers) and was still super friendly. our food came really quick each time, and our drinks were always refilled.
i went back with my boyfriend this past week and the experience was awful. our server was so rude and i had to go up to the counter to ask for my drink to be refilled. they sit on their cell phones the entire time. i learned to not bother eating in this restaurant unless our 'original' server is working. If you go in and don't see a sweet girl with really blonde hair working, leave and come back. The food came in the usual time, but there could have been more banana peppers on it. there was probably only one per slice.

Great food,great service.

Cafe222/BUSTED. Went for a nice dinner because we heard the pizza was fabulous. pizza and salad was good, and came pretty fast after waiting quite awhile just to get drinks when we arrived. Seating is uncomfortable for eating. Service is brutal -- like they were doing us a favour by serving us! Server brings us salads, and neglects to bring FORKS - duh! then for dessert - not much selection but we chose some gelato - hey - fits with Italian theme right? for $3.50 each they were served frozen hard like from a deep freeze, and little PLASTIC spoons that broke in half when trying to eat the gelato. What did the server expect? I kept thinking with service this shoddy - you expect to get 15% for a tip!!? A place like this should serve gelato in pretty little bowls at least. I just shook my head. this place could be soooo good, but now I know why it was not very busy. not wanting to go back anytime soon. I'm going to Luxalune on Osborne instead!

Cheap Pizza with some Atmosphere. As most of you know, Cafe 22 is the store front of Pizza Hotline. Despite the fact that pizza hotline pizza is super cheap and mediocre pizza at best when you have it delivered. The pizza you get while sitting down at Cafe 22 is seemingly undertaken with some more care. The atmosphere is dimly lit, bucket like seated tables, or round private feeling booths, a large artificial tree with lights spanning the entire ceiling, usually mostly soundless sports on ceiling mounted TVs, and not too loud music playing. $17.99 for a 15" unlimited toppings (some 30 toppings) pizza with the choice of regular, thin, or deep dish style, on white or whole wheat crust, is very reasonable. Their calzones are pretty good as well. As for as other food, I am unsure why one would go to a Pizza Hotline restaurant and order anything other than a pizza-like item, but I really have no opinion. That all being said, the experience there is completely contingent on your server. Usually your server is reasonably prompt, attentive and pleasant. Sometimes, quite rarely, you will get a server who is NOT prompt, NOT attentive, and NOT pleasant. Having to get up yourself with your empty glasses and go to the counter to get a refill from somebody other than your server because she is too busy texting. In fact, this has only ever happened to me twice, out of about 40 instances of patronage, and I have never seen the same bad server their more than once. Cafe 22 on Corydon is my standard, I want to sit down and eat cheap but good pizza place to go. I refer to it as my "fallback" restaurant.

I should have known better than to return after the horrific service I had experienced one Canada day (Where our server left after taking our order, never returned, and we waited 45 minutes for two salads which we never got since we decided to leave. Magically, another server appeared to chase us down the street to force us to pay for our Coca Colas.. Seriously?) but, like a moron, I went back. Attempting to satisfy my friend's hankering for fettuccine alfredo at 10pm, I mistakenly suggested Cafe 22 since it was close to home. We were seated beside a gigantic table of 15 or so people who were sitting back, drinking wine and not ordering anything because they were finished. I thought this meant that the kitchen wouldn't be busy and we were in luck. Dead wrong. After ordering, we easily waited an hour before I asked where our damn food was. The waitress came back with my salad (yep, you read right, all I ordered was a damn salad) and said the kitchen was sooo busy. Funny, I watched 3 other tables come and go while we waited for my friend's pasta. After threatening to leave several times (I had long ago finished my salad), we were finally served our pasta. Time on the clock was 11:40 when we got it. My friend said it tasted gross and cold, and by golly, she was right! She left the establishment wondering if the server was racist against Asians and I felt like crap for suggesting this dump and wasting our time. Oh yeah, then we were expected to pay full price. Bwahaha. What a joke this place is.

CALZONE! CALZONE!. This small restaurant tucked in Corydon is dimly lit with lights strung throughout. Cute booths, a quiet back room, and comfy seats to have a few drinks and snacks with friends. Cool vibe. Although this restaurant is popular, lots of people have not tried it (no doubt assuming that the quality of pizza is poor). The assumption would be totally wrong. Fast food prices, but not quality. For less than $10, you can get the most amazing calzones in the city - gourmet toppings such as sundried tomato, artichoke heart, proscuitto, etc. and the standard pepperoni, mushroom toppings. Did I mention that the toppings are UNLIMITED for the same price? Since I discovered the calzones years ago, I have never turned back. The flavor is only limited by creativity (or bravery) --- so good. With a beer or two, this is the perfect treat for dinner.
Andrew
Skip it. Pizza wasn't bad, service was brutal. Servers don't seem to care, borderline rude.

Super cute! 4.5 / 5.. I just discovered this cute place last week with my sister! I love the atmosphere, and the pasta is yummy, with pretty good portions for the price! Its a place i dont need to spend alot of money and still feel like im going out for a nice treat! So far i havent had great service. However im a server myself and cant stand slowww waitresses! Other then the service! Its great!

Doesn't Like. I will never order from this location ever again. I had placed a small order for delivery, and didnt have extra money for a tip. The driver glared at me and called me an f...beep because I didnt tip him. I called the store immediately since I was furious. All the store manager said was "the driver says he didnt say that" and hung up on me. NO appology or anything. Never again will I order there
Krumfaust
Crap pizza dressed up to look like a mid-range restaurant. That is all.
KARA Xtine
Fav place for our late night date. Service is mediocre and the food is great but no wow factor. I go there because the decor is really nice and welcoming
Chubbs424
Never to return. Had heard good things about this restaurant but did not see anything like that the night we went. Service was terrible, waitress was texting, meal was nothing great - bland, not worth the cost. Meal looked nothing like what we thought the menu said. Bread was stale. One tossed salad was a large bowl of lettuce and croutons with 4 cucumber and 4 tomato slices. At the end we were overcharged, which they did fix. Never going back.
James
Had the Chicago deep dish pizza with a friend. And thy brought out this gigantic pizza that tasted incredible. Definately worth the 20$ and will be back again!
Nicholas B.
The pizza would be fine if they would ever get the toppings right. The pizza has unlimited toppings, but the waitresses refuse to write things down so you get a random assortment of toppings instead of what you order. Also, the deep dish is virtually crust, which isn't what a Chicago style deep dish pizza should be.
DineoutGal
Cute place. I think of all the places that serve Pizza Hotline pizza, this is my favourite location. I also love the dark decor, loungy seats and the white white lights hanging everywhere. It's a great place to have a coffee with a friend or a place to drop by for some cheap and decent pizza.
Hanken
Amazing!. Excellent portions. Great food along with fabulous service. It doesn't matter what you order you will always be pleased!

I have gone to Café 22 more times than I can remember in the last five years. That’s not to say I am a regular, but if I do not want to spend a lot of money and I want a quieter place to eat, this is my number one choice. The reason for this is threefold: 1) they do not charge you extra money for toppings on custom pizzas, 2) there is a patio which is wonderful for people watching 3) the pizza is reliable. The atmosphere is wonderful. Two large artificial trees reach the roof and spread their branches around the middle of the room which effectively muffles the sound. The lights are dim. The music is never too loud. The only thing that retracts from the mood of the place are the paintings in the booths, which look at you with very vibrant eyes. I find them unnerving. The servers might be a mixed bag, but when I go there I am not expecting someone professionally paring tastes, or catering to my whim. I am there for
