Review Ginza Sushi - Winnipeg

First of all, amazing service. Love this place. Great food at a great price. I always order their New Hampshire (at least 3 orders), chicken Katsu and calamari rolls. They always welcome me with smiles. Keep it up you wonderful people! Can't wait to dine in!

I try to visit Ginza every so often they have a huge menu with tons to choose from. Everything is always made perfectly. Prices are reasonable and even lunch wait times are realistic for handmade food as long as you are aware it does take some time. Keep up the amazing work!

The take out has been quite good in the past. My wife and I went there Saturday to have lunch and found that there was still no in person dining. Restaurants in Winnipeg have had in person dining for half a year now. Time to catch up guys.

First time to order and not that happy. No customer service, they’re too busy to acknowledge you. Staff making rolls no hair net. Then we had beef and chicken teriyaki or should I say Cabbage & onion teriyaki.. yes full of cabbage and onion. 50 grams of meat and 100 grams of cabbage, and it’s too sweet. Sushi and calamari were okay. Tempura shrimp was full of breading. Spent over $70 but not worth it. Sorry.

I've ordered twice from Ginza. The first time, I ordered the "38. Poke Bowl". First off, the photos on the website are NOT photos of the food you're ordering. When I opened it up I was very confused because it honestly looked like I ordered beef chili. The entire bowl was DRENCHED in sriracha mayo. I love sriracha mayo, but this was excessive. There was probably about a 1/3 inch of mayo as the entire top layer of the bowl. The rest of the ingredients in the poke bowl were very sparse, and I have to say it's actually one of the worst things I've ever had from a restaurant in my life. However, I wanted to give them a shot in regards to their sushi, as the reviews seemed good. I'm glad I did. The sushi was excellent, great ingredient ratios, everything was delicious. I will definitely order (the sushi) again, but that poke bowl was truly...something else.

Friendly staff! A good selection of different sushi options. Very good for the price.

Love the sushi here. Tried it first time on new years eve. They were super busy but food was fantastic. Came back today. I have to say I love this place. Glad we have such lovely sushi spot on our north end neiborhood. Good job guys.

This place has changed! Not sure if it's ownership or the workers but it for sure isn't the same sushi. Ordered 2 rolls, the yam tempura in the rolls were overcooked and not very good. They didn't even look freshly cooked like it was from yesterday! There was so much topping on the 2nd roll that it made the roll very wet and gross plus it wasn't rolled very well. I understand the ends of the rolls will have larger pieces of veggie & meet but to have 1/4 of a cucumber whole sticking out of the end is just weird! It wasn't worth it at all to eat I had to throw it out as it wasn't very good! Waste of money! I had ordered take out a few months ago and noticed a change of quality then. And Quality is worse now then in fall.

Took my daughter here for her first ever sushi experience and you guys didn’t disappoint! The server was helpful and pleasant and the food was amazing! Thank you so much!! We’ll be back for more for sure!!

Best sushi in Winnipeg! Congratulations on a great product!

Absolutely delicious food and friendly service. Coming to this restaurant was a heartwarming experience. I found the prices reasonable and the food of very high quality.

I ordered threw Skip The Dish this evening. Everything came in a good amount of time and was presented well. All the rolls I ordered tasted, fresh and delicious.

Ordered take out one evening before work. I was quoted 20 minutes. I went there after 25 minutes and it still wasn't ready. I only ordered three rolls. Two crunch rolls and one teriyaki salmon roll. Although there was a wait everything was delicious. Rolls didn't fall apart and you could tell they were fresh. The crunch roll was kind of sweet though, not sure why. Like how they do not charge for a side of scipy mayo as most restaurants are now. Would order again if I wasn't strict for time.

Food is always fresh and very tasty. Decor is simple and functional, just the way I like it. No loud music to interfere with conversation. Great place to relax and eat!

I came here the other day for lunch. I got Lunch special (A) and it was a great portion for lunch. I had 80. Veggie bakudan roll and vegetable tempura and they were both very good!

I was in the area with a friend and we were craving sushi. Some dishes were amazing and others not-so-much. I found the salmon to be of low quality and the rice to be sort of dry and not so flavourful. However the tuna was great and the fried octopus balls were amazing. The restaurant is small but the service was good.

Collected my take out for 1, paid 16$ for the tiniest portion of sushi. Hope you like Sriracha because it's the only "spice" used. Also make sure if you get take out to have Wasabi and ginger, at home because it doesn't come with it..... Kinda like getting a burger with no toppings..... Also make sure you have soya sauce because it literally comes with .25 a teaspoon. Will not return

I think that Ginza sushi is Best Sushi on Winnipeg. Great Place for takeout and small dine in. Prices are very reasonable compared to other sushi in the city, also taste is very delicious than other sushi place. Specially, Ginza Roll, Rainbow Roll and volcano Roll. other sushi are very good!!
Meghan
One of my favourite sushi restaurants! I always have a positive experience here which has made me a regular! Sushi restaurants aren't really known for having outstanding service so I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot by these guys. The food it wonderful for the price!

I'm confused how they are still in business. How do you operate a business if you literally never answer the phone and apparently the hours of operation are simply guidelines at this place. Probably haven't got through to them 8 out of 10 times ive tried to order sushi for pick up. When you somehow manage to get a hold of them during their rare open hours, the sushi is pretty not bad.
Kristina Sara
Ordered for take out, when I went to go pick it up, saw that the prices were different then what is on the menu on Zomato, FYI they are little more, Eg. Beef Rolls are not 4.50, they are 5.05. Got the Croquette and Spring Rolls, they were good, but they could have used another kind of sauce, the 4 sauces we got were just soy sauce types. The Yam Tempura Rolls were pretty good, even my boyfriend who doesn't like yam tried it and said it was good. Another Favorite was the Chicken Katsu Roll. We also tried the Beef Roll, Boston Roll, and New Hampshire Roll and I wasn't disapointed with any of them, but not overly impressed. I think next time I will try the sushi pizza and their Caterpillar Roll.

Are they ever open?. Seemingly every time I call or drive by they are closed. Their sign on their door shows they are open every day except Sunday. It is Saturday night at 7 and they are closed, the sign on their door says 8:30. They could likely do a lot more business if they were ever open.

Condiment extra charges. Placed an order today for approx.$ 12.00 and was told they only give 2 packs of soya anything more would be .50 each.
I told them to cancel the order and I will not support them again. Very dumb business sense here.

Sushi lover.

Fantastic Sushi!!. We went there for the first time April 2015. We tried about 7 different Rolls and every single one was fantastic! Can't wait to go back and try the rest of them.

Best sushi restaurant in all of winnipeg, fish is always fresh, the food looks and tastes amazing, very quick service, at a very good price if your looking for your go to sushi restaurant this one is it, I sometimes find myself going multiple times in a week

LoveHate Relationship. Great food, terrible hours. Closes too early that you can't go out there for supper.

This place is the reason why I enjoy sushi now. Do yourself a favor and try it out, you won't be dissapointed.

Try the pacific roll or dynamite roll, both are fantastic. I will definitely be returning.

I've been tempted to try this place since I saw it on the shake feature of urban spoon. I normally would avoid a suburban sushi joint like a steak house in India. But I live 4 blocks away and it got a great like percentage. I was not disappointed. I had the sonomono salad. It was one of the best I ever had. The sushi was fresh and tasty. The service was top notch. I really don't know what the other reviewers were saying about slow food. The only issue I had was the cheap wood chop sticks. I should remember to bring my own. Bottom line is this place is a hidden gem of a restaurant. One other thing. The prices are outstanding.

Great Sushi!. Went here a while ago, the restaurant is real nice, small, but still nice to dine in.
I came in during a real slow period, so my order came real quick. Sushi had great presentation , better than some sushi places I've been in. definitely a go-to place for sushi around the very north of the city.

Great sushi!. I used to HATE sushi, till I tried out Ginza! Best place in town! Everyone that I have brought here agrees! the rolls are STUFFED with goodness. The owner and servers are super friendly and are always willing to help you out! I've never had to wait long! I've been going here twice a week for about 3 years now! MUST TRY! Sushi pizza is to die for!

Best Sushi North End of City. Great place for takeout. Always fresh. Friendly service. Prices are very reasonable compared to other places in the city, especially for party platters.
MSG
Best Sushi on the Northside. Small place, people don't speak English well but the food was excellent. Agedeashi Tofu & Assorted Tempura are equal to all the high sushi places in Winnipeg. Mushroom avocado roll, California roll, Boston roll & Yam Tempura roll was excellent. Very clean and presented well. The salad roll was amazing. Since the sushi maker is older he takes pride in his work, I wanted some maguro (tuna) sushi but they were all out, this indicates that everything is fresh. Most of the sushi places in the Northside do not take pride in what they serve compared to here. Can't wait for my next visit!

Great Service, Great food. One of the best shushi places I have visited in the city. The place is on the smaller size, seating is limited, but the 2x we have been there always get a seat. The atmosphere is pleasant and clean. Staff are very nice, and prompt Rolls are excellent, my favorite, and recommend is the Bakudan Rolls. If you are trying for a new Shushi place, check it out.

Really great sushi. Fresh, flavourful and fast. We will definitely be going back

Great place. Great sushi. Service awesome.

Bad Experiences. I have had nothing but bad experiences at this place. Do not eat in. The service is terrible. I waited for over an hour for my food. Don't bother picking up either. On February 14th, I placed a phone order, they told me 40 minutes and when I showed up, I waited an additional 45 minutes. She had told me 15 when I got there. Plus there were many others who had to wait for 2 hours for their food. They wouldn't even offer a discount for the inconvenience. These people do not know how to run a business or treat customers.

Good sushi, reasonable prices, great quick service. I will definitely be going again. Love that they have a yam roll with cream cheese mmmmmm

Horrible Service. Tonight, I placed a take out order at 5pm for the sushi to be ready at 6:30pm. They said no problem. My bf went to pick it up at 6:30pm, he waited there until 7:20pm! For the 50 minutes he waited, they never apologized or spoke to him once.

I tried calling them to see what the hold up was and to complain, but they never answered the phone, my bf actually heard the phone rang the entire time, but no one answered it. He eventually got our sushi and left, without anything done to help or make it better. Never returning!

I can't even comment on the sushi because we were so upset, anything would have tasted poorly. We have eaten there before, it was good but nothing spectacular, so this just made our decision easy to go somewhere else.

Good rolls but certainly not the best in the city. Normal pricing. Small with almost no atmosphere. Not licensed so no Saki :( Will probably use for pickup only.

Took me a while to figure that a place just across my work has amazing sushi and awesome prices.
Its not really noticeable unless your looking specifically for sushi in that area which was a shock it is in riverbend. But nonetheless - the restaurant is pretty inside, super clean, friendly staff.
I'm a picky eater and OCD about my food but I was impressed.
Amazing spicy shrimp roll the chicken Katsu is so good! Only problem I had was the gyoza was kinda off tasting.
Good location with lots of parking.
It's better than sushi plus on Mcphillips !
Will def be going back here!

Love love this sushi!!!!!! Best in the city for sure!
Michael
I would love to review the food, but it never came!! My wife and I decided to try them out, as it is the closest sushi place to home. After placing our order, we waited for over an hour! During this time, we watched people come in, place take-out orders, and leave with their food, all while we continued to wait. Finally, I approached the counter to ask for the status of our order. Well, it turns out they hadn't started it yet!! Imagine the wait if we were dealing with COOKED food! Will happily head back to Corydon area - could get there, eat, and be back home before Ginza even starts!

Hands down the best sushi in Winnipeg, and I live how it's a north end joint, it's about time we had something to brag about. 2 tumbs up!!

Good Sushi & Good Price. Ginza has become one of my favorite go-to sushi spots. I love that there is a delicious sushi spot in my area. I have had the vegetable caterpillar roll (tempura veggies rolled up with avocado sliced on top), T.N.T. roll (yummy California roll with tempura shrimp on top, drizzled with yummy sauces), the Boston roll (a spicy roll), the Crunch roll, and the usuals - such as California roll, Dynamite roll, etc. All are very good, but my top 2 picks are the T.N.T. roll and the Boston roll. My husband eats mainly sashimi and enjoyed his meals each time. He did complain that on one occasion he had a bone in his sashimi. But other than that, he liked it.

Good but double-check take-out orders!. I am impressed by the consistent quality of the food at Ginza, and have ordered from there numerous times. However, the first two times I ordered, I got home to find items missing from my take-out order. I called and went back and they gladly filled the missing orders. On the third time, I knew better and checked before I left. Sure enough, they left out the miso soup.
Great quality food, good price, just be sure you get everything you pay for!

I recommend this place to any sushi lover. They make my favorite California roll anywhere, the avocado is always amazing. The prices are decent and the service is always friendly :)

Nice Selection !. I stopped in as I knew I had a DealFind at home so wanted to check them out before bringing someone else with me...it turns out they do not accept DealFind coupons as it was a case of miscommunication I was told.
Anyway I ordered my usual Goma Ae & Agedashi Tofu, then decided to try a spicy tuna cone, a spicy salmon cone, a Pacific Roll and a Tako Sunomono Salad.
Goma Ae $3.75 was not baby spinach but was cooked well enough so the spinach stalks were not tough and easy to chew and the sesame sauce was good too. Agedashi tofu $3.75 was average but had some green onion slices on it at least which added to the flavour. (where are the bonito flakes and ginger? never seen in Winnipeg) Pacific roll $11.50 fish was fresh and nicely prepared, interesting flavour of the spicy mayo. The cones were nice too, could have had more fish in them but at $3.25 each what more could you ask for. The Sunomono also could have had more octopus at $4.25 but had lots of cucumber and was actually prepared & presented properly though had a brown tinged almost smokey vinegar sauce....service was polite and friendly though there was no follow up once you received your food.
Definitely the best sushi on north Main St !!
Prices were good.

Best Sushi in City. First off, I LOVE that this place is near my house because there are so many sushi places at the south end of the town and hardly any at the north.
I have been here countless times (for take out, never have eaten in) and it has been great! Compared to most other sushi places Ginza is very reasonably priced with most standard rolls UNDER $5! One of my favorites is a specialty roll called "snow roll" which has tempura shrimp and vegetables inside with a crab sauce on top which is so delicious and something I have never seen at any other restaurant.
I have tried almost every roll on the menu and have always had a fresh tasting and tasty experience.
For appetizers they also have delicious potato croquettes and spinach gomae. And a very decently priced lunch special.
Highly recommend!!

Good sushi, it was my best kept secret. But not no more

Quality over Quantity. The sushi was very good and tender. The sashimi was VERY thin but tasted very good and fresh. The salmon bakudan seemed to simply melt in my mouth. The pieces in the rolls seemed on the small side but I didn't mind since the quality was soo good.

Not Bad. The sushi was pretty good and a plate of six pieces plus soup cost $9 at lunchtime including tip and tax. Based in a small outlet of shops just off the Finch road. Typical modern Japanese restaurant with clean lines and vivid colours. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Main negative point was that they had two sound systems playing different songs at the same time (One for counter staff and one for the seated customers). Requests to turn one off , failed to be understood.

Pleasurable Dining Experience. I have had the pleasure of dining at this particular restaurant on a handful of occasions as it is nestled in my neighborhood. I have consistently enjoyed each meal not to mention the friendly service and cozy ambience. Being relatively new to the sushi fare, I find myself asking questions about the menu and have truly enjoyed each dish that arrives at the table in an eloquant display of colors/textures.

Great Sushi!. I order from Ginza quite often as it is really close to my home. I've neer had a bad roll. Always fresh tasting, and the staff is really friendly. The only negative things I have to say are they close too early (8:30 on weekdays), and the restaurant itself is very small with only about 4 tables.

For a small place that just opened I was not expecting much. I was very surprised. The menu was quite extensive and the food fresh. The service is very fast and attentive. Very affordable. Good job Ginza.

Good stuff.. Just tried some of the items there, It's real good stuff, would recommend.
