First time and it left a lovely impression. Went here for lunch with friends and I loved their lunch menu. I ordered the chicken karaage. Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It came with rice edamame and spring rolls. We also had the takoyaki which I loved. Just the right amount of crunch on the outside and soft but not gooey on the inside. Awesome! Will come again to try other dishes. 😍

Best ramen in Winnipeg. Get the shoyu ramen with some genmaicha and you won’t be sorry. The pork melts in your mouth. Would be interested to try the spicy miso.

For appetizers, I usually go for the agedashi tofu or korokke, both of which are always satisfying.

Ordered crispy Panko chicken thigh with croquette and fried rice and it was perfect - crispy, delicious, large portion. Best fried rice ever had!
I will order again.
Also had spicy peanut ramen with udon noodles. Perfect amount of heat!

Food was great. Serving size was generous enough. Ambiance was okay. Just plain. A little understaff cause there’s only one server waiter and cashier

Ordered lunch for delivery through skipthedishes.com and was very impressed.I got Spicy Peanut Ramen with chicken. It arrived in two containers (broth in one, and everything else in the other). I was a bit put off at first because the broth seemed too clear to be peanut, but once I added it with the noodles and the rest of the dish, I realized the peanut flavoring was something mixed in with all the toppings. The flavour and portion size was perfect. The peanut flavouring was not overpowering, and there was an adequate amount of chicken and other toppings. Despite the price (I feel is a bit high), I feel this is great value, and reflects exactly what you get.I look forward to visiting in person or ordering again soon.

Stopped in for lunch after always seeing their Facebook pictures which looked scrumptious and a high desire for a soothing broth to help heal my upset tummy the past few days and miso is always a choice when I'm feeling under the weather.

Very lovely waitress served me and I asked for recommendations, she was very helpful and told me the spicy miso was the most popular and that the chicken peanut soup was made with the same broth. I ordered the spicy miso. She asked me if I would like chopsticks which I really appreciated as usually I have to ask, and brought me a super cold glass of water without ice, very nice and refreshing as I hate it when you are served warm water.

The soup came and the broth was so delicious with a nice depth of miso, chili spicy heat (which I love, but don't order if you can't handle heat), a hint of peanut, and a slightly thicker, flavorful broth with nice depth to it. I will have to ask if they just sell extra broth next time to take home. The egg noodles had a nice chew to them and you have the option of switching up noodles to an udon or glass noodle for an extra dollar. It comes with shredded pork and carrots, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and corn. The portion of pork was a great portion and more than enough for anyone. Not a lot of bean sprouts or bamboo shoots which was a bit of a disappointment and I did ask for more sprouts and the waitress said it would be a $1 more and I agreed. She shortly after said she wouldn't charge me which I really appreciated and made for a much more enjoyable experience as I am a huge fanatic about crispy crunchy bean sprouts and brought me a pretty big portion of them. She refilled my water and asked how everything was, just the right amount of service.

I didn't see if there were facilities so I don't know if they are clean, the restaurant was pretty clean but the benches need a good vacuum and wipe down and that's the only reason I didn't give them a 5.

I had a great experience, lunch cost me $16 with tip and I thought it might be a better price point of $12 instead of $14. So full after only being able to finish half of it, so I'll be having the rest of it tonight!

I will be back for sure to try other items the shrimp curry, and shio ramen for sure!

Came here for lunch with some colleagues. My colleague and I were craving ramen and in the area, Kyu was the only one that came to mind.

Upon entering, we greeted and seated promptly. Kyu actually has dishes in addition to ramen. They have lots of appetizers, several stir fried noodle dishes and also some rice plates.

My colleague decided to change it up and got the pork belly rice and I stuck it out with the shoyu ramen. The broth was excellent, however I found my noodles under cooked. I also found the shredded daikon to be an unusual garnish for ramen. The chashu pork was well made.

Would come again if I'm the area, but there are definitely better ramen places in Winnipeg.

Well, it warmed up in our Winnipeg winter for a change but the humid -2C called for something hot and tasty... in comes Kyu Bistro!!! What a great serving of Ramen. I had the Spicy chicken peanut ramen and it was an entire meal full of amazing broth and loaded with more than expected. I was stuffed and the setting was great. Service was great and portion was big and filling. It was difficult to find parking at lunch in this little strip, but I was told they made a great ramen.... and they delivered. Good job Kyu! I'll be back.

Came here for some ramen and for their wing night. Prices were good and the wings seemed to have been dipped in some sort of batter before frying giving it a unique crunch and flavor.

I ordered 2 weeks back through skip, I have to say it was pretty tasty and presentation was very pleasant to the eye, Id order again for sure, probably eat in would be best, the sauce for the tempura spilled in the container so that sort of a right off but everything else was packed full of flavor.

This review is just for the food truck war big wave. I'm actually disappointed by how cold the food was when I got it. Also, shrimp skewer is actually a blended shrimp paste skewer. You guys taste much better during your regular hours.

January 5, 2017:
I went for the encore of the burger from Burger Week 2016, and I quickly realised that the original burger I had during actual Burger Week, had been wrong (spinach instead of arugula and no cheese).

The burger was supposed to be as follows:
"House made Crisp Chicken Patty using a Blend of Chicken Breast and Chicken Thigh, Garlic Miso Butter, Spicy Honey Mustard, Crispy Pork Belly, Pickled Carrots, Arugula, Okonomi Sauce, Cucumber, Mozzarella Cheese, Sweet chilli Aioli all on a Soft Pillowy cloud Bun "

Anyway, I also tried the spicy peanut ramen, and although fairly good, it had zero traces of peanut or peanut taste. The wings were very good however and not greasy, but very crisp. All in all, I still love this place.

September 1, 2016:
I went for burger week 2016, and therefore obviously tried something "out of the ordinary". However, everyone around us ordered usual menu items, and all looked (and especially smelled) AMAZING. The service was also top-notch, with the server being super friendly and really excited when she saw us taking pictures. The burger was very good all-around, but the bun and patty were the outstanding stars (as they should be, imo). The patty was perfectly crispy and crunchy, but I was most impressed that they chose to grind both white and brown meat into a formed patry, rather than just use a breast cut and simply bread and fry it. The bun was pure artistry, unlike ANYTHING I've ever tried. It was light, yet doughy and substantial. If this burger is any indication of their usual standards, I'm hooked. This is a restaurant which was on my bookmarked wishlist previously; but admittedly low on the list and often overlooked. Now, I am itching to go back and try everything on the menu!

Truly outstanding.

This is the first time I've tried their ramen, and it's really good! The one I tried was the curry shrimp ramen. I'm kind of disappointed there was only 1 deep fried shrimp (rest of the shrimp was naked) for a dish that's almost $14, although the flavor of the broth and the healthy amount of noodles made up for it. I will definitely return since it's the area.

I've been here a few times and I can say that it is consistently delicious, clean and friendly. Some times service can be a bit slow, but when there's only two people working, one in front one in back, I can accept that.
Best broth in the city so far. Great decor and atmosphere. I know I'll be coming back here for a long time.

I usually go to Ramen Aji Kura for ramen but I heard they already closed down. So I went here to have some Ramen as I'm craving for it. Ordered the Shio Ramen and it was okay. Soup was lacking in flavour but noodles were good. Restaurant wasn't really that clean when we arrived as there's still some dirty tables that weren't cleaned yet and there's only one server so service was slow. Their chicken karaage was good but their homemade sauce kinda overpowered the chicken, I wish they could have put the sauce on the side instead of putting too much sauce on top of the chicken.

It's a small restaurant with big flavor and a big menu. They offer many more dishes you don't often see at Japanese restaurants. I've liked every dish I've had there so far. Have yet to try the ramen bowls. They also have a food truck that looks amazing, but I've been unable to catch it around the city.

Like it! I have been here a handful of times and it is a spot I like to go to. It seems it's not a favourite place for people to hit up for some Ramen and other Japanese food, but this place is always an option when I'm craving that fix.

Their chicken karaage is great! My favourite that I've had in the city. I've had many other chicken karaage and this one is by far my favourite. The Okonomiyaki was great also. They have a wide selection on "appetizer" items which I do enjoy ordering!

Ramen bowls are a large portion. I can never finish an entire bowl myself. My go to is the Curry Shrimp Ramen. So good! I also like their curry bowl with rice.

I only wish they had katsu on their menu. Overall, good place to try.

Went there with husband for dinner. We also had quite a number of ramen from the west coast, and we have to say the ramen here disappointed us a bit. The soup is too thin, but also too salty, not enough flavor. Noodles are not bad. The topping are generous and good, but overall the soups we tried failed our expectation of Japanese ramen noodles because of the thin watery yet extremely salty soup. But we still liked the place because of the hickey karaage, which is worth the trip itself. And the lychee ice tea was quite yummy. They do have okonomiyaki, Japanese pancake, which we hope to try next time.

Awsome Service Hidden Gem. This place has stellar service we. We were there when the place filled up and they had their weekly delivery, they still managed to keep up, the place is small and being Winnipeg the wind blows through this little eatery so if you are sensitive to cold dress in layers. The food was delightful we had the quail eggs, gyoza, and deep fried mushrooms. All were wonderfully prepared, though I wish they varied the sauces on more of the dishes. That being said the sauce was good so not complaints on taste. The pork with glass noodles the meat was soooo tender and perfect, the whole dish was nothing short of wonderful. In the beef with shiitake, the mushrooms were astounding absolutely the star of the dish all vegetables were cooked perfect and crisp never overdone. My one issue was with the beef it was so over cooked, and under seasoned that it tasted freezer burnt... still the mushrooms were some of the best tasting food I've had recently and the beef was the only thing that really fell short. I will absolutely visit again, price was good for the quality, the place was super cute and clean, the staff was friendly and gave awesome service. I will be back.

Much Love

Snacky. I like a lot of the appetizers, the tofu is good, melt in your mouth goodness.
I also really like the lychee iced tea. Their menu has recently expanded I have found. Which is cool.
Still not a big fan of the soups though.

Great Flavors at a Low Cost. Kyu is a Japanese restaurant slightly hidden in a strip mall on Isabel, but instead of the typical sushi Kyu serves up small plates of seafood, chicken, beef, and pork as well as curry dishes and 4 types of ramen. My gf and I felt quite adventurous and decided to try a bit of everything. We started off with the Chicken Kara-Age which were lightly battered pieces of chicken served with a delicious (non-overpowering) wasabi mayo. The portion size was very reasonable for only $5. Next we tried the Panko Butterflied Shrimp and received 6 meaty shrimp for $8 with a sweet chili dipping sauce. The shrimps were good but nothing special or unique. From the skewer menu we wanted to try the scallops but unfortunately they were out of stock so we settled for the Teriyaki Sirloin. For only $5 we received 4 skewers each with 2 big bites of steak on them. The meat was very flavorful and I enjoyed the first one. However, the second piece I took was a bit grissely and so chewy I had to spit it out.
Our next dish was the Shoyu Ramen ($8) but instead of pork belly we asked for pork shoulder. The soup was flavorful and comforting filled with noodles and some vegetables--no bamboo, so perhaps they took fellow reviewer, Brian's, advice. I would definitely come back in the colder months for a bowl of this soup.
Lastly, we had the Chicken Curry, which consisted of chicken thighs, carrots, and potatoes in a tasty curry sauce served with rice. The curry was good and contained some bright spices that I could not place--perhaps cinnamon?
Altogether with a soda and 2 extra sides of spinach ($1/each) for the soup our bill with tax was just over $40. Extremely reasonable since the food was delicious and we left with a big box of leftovers. The menu may be small but it is definitely well executed.

Amazing small plates (tofu and chicken karage are my fav) and large delicious quantities of ramen. My friend had the curry rice bowl (pork) and enjoyed it. Even the tea was tasty!
On top of all that the owners/servers are super kind and attentive.
Fantastic all around!

Cozy on a chilly day. Ramen is a perfect rainy day food! While Elements is my favourite place in the city for ramen (and it's now seasonally closed), this place will do the trick! Tried the spicy miso ramen, and ate every drop. This is not college-student-ramen-- it's beautiful and complex. Also tried the gyuniku beef, and it was soft and marinated well. The chrysanthemum tea (enough for two) was a nice treat.

It seems the owners are still working out the kinks. They didn't seem prepared for a full house. But I'll be back to try everything on the menu, I'm sure-- and expect things to get better each time. Good luck to this new little restaurant in Winnipeg.

Decent Ramen. We ordered miso, shio ramen, kara age (fried chicken), age dashi toufu, and gyoza. The miso ramen was all right, with flavourful soup, assorted vegetables and a good texture to the noodles. My Japanese wife was only sad that the miso ramen didn't have an egg like the shio and shoyu ones. The appetizers had lots of seasoning / sauce to them, probably closer to accomodate for Canadian tastes. Thankful that this isn't yet another sushi restaurant.

Not A Bad Choice. We recently came from a trip to the West Coast (ie. Vancouver) where there is a really large selection of very good ramen places-

For Winnipeg- this is one of the better choices for ramen. (perhaps 1 of 2-3 restaurants that may even offer it) The Shio ramen came with lots of toppings compared to some other versions we've tried elsewhere (corn, seaweed, shredded radish, swirly fishcake, scallions, pork slices, bamboo, half a soft boiled egg) and was a light broth, not too salty, slightly garlicky- very tasty. The noodles was cooked al dente- not too hard, not too mushy- and they are NOT the instant ramen noodles- they are the noodles that you might get at a store frozen. The Spicy Miso ramen did not have as many toppings- pork was shredded, no egg/fish cake- but the broth was richer, thicker, meaty-er, spicier- a very delicious broth that might make you forget you didn't have as many toppings in your bowl. Both are recommended especially at $8.50/bowl. There is enough to make you satisfied- especially if you order the following...

The Chicken Kara-age wasn't bad- deep fried, not horribly greasy, tasty enough- made a nice side dish to the ramen. The Pork Chasu was also a tasty side dish- a larger size plate that is shareable- with a tasty yellow mustard.

The owners/server are very pleasant. Hopefully they keep up the quality and prices- If they do, they are definitely worth a trip down to the area for a nice steaming bowl of noodles in the winter especially. Now , if only they would add a level of customizability... ie. ability to pick different broths to go with different toppings.... we will see what 'specials' they may be able to offer!

The spicy miso ramen was good, although I would have liked it if there was an option on the menu to add a different meat or even a soft boiled egg. You are only able to add other vegetables for $1.00 each, and no option for meats. The ramen noodles didn't look like they were handmade. Maybe those packaged fresh premade ones that you can find in stores? I also had the lychee iced tea, which was good. It had a light lychee taste to it, probably from the one lychee that is added to the iced tea. I also had the agedashi tofu, which was different from the usual. However, my husband and I were both pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The bacon wrapped scallops were also good, but nothing particularly special about it. For the entree, my husband ordered the beef curry with rice. He complained about how it was the worst curry he ever had and how the beef was tough and chewy. Overall, it was a good experience. Come here for the ramen and not the curry rice as they do not offer anything else for entrees, as it is mainly focused on ramen. One thing I might add is although the waitress was friendly, I did not like the fact that she kept calling me hun. I find that to be unprofessional and unnecessary.

Finally a ramen house in winnipeg!. Small cozy little place stuffed in a little strip mall on Isabel, not too far of a drive off from portage. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food (Think she's the chefs wife). Design i modern but not too bright, it's fairly relaxing. I ordered the agedashi tofu, BBQ pork chasu, and Shoyu ramen. I must say, the prices are pretty decent. I left pretty full and was about 19+tip. I also ordered more than i would normally because i wanted to try a few things out from them.

The BBQ pork was pretty tasty, not dry, nice and tender, it's also a cold dish fyi. Great with the hot mustard, good sharing plate. The agedashi tofu came in 4 chunks of deep friend tofu on a sweet dashi sauce, topped with what looks like a pepper aioli, dab of sriracha. they were crispy and tofu creamy and pretty flavourful. The shoyu ramen comes in a nice sized deep bowl, the broth was good, i have a hard time tell, but it looks like they're fresh made noodles, i forgot to check with the waitress on this fact. Either way they were pretty good noodles. On the side you also have you choice of chili oil or chili mix sprinkles to add to your desired level of spicy.

Overall it's a good place, decent prices, tasty food. One of the only ramen houses i'm aware of in the city and i will be back to get my ramen fix in the near future!
