Review Mama's Noodle House - Winnipeg

Prices and menu are great! Love going there, because the dishes are big and very tasty. But I would recommend to maintain this place better! It was very dirty last time we went there! Lots of dust on the wall decor!

I had a To go with Beef Satay Egg Noodle after 10 mins for their preparation. They are the best satay noodles in town.

Ordered 322. Deluxe Pad Thai and 42. Deluxe Wonton Soup. Pad Thai is probably my favorite dish here Soup was ok. Too many noodles not enough wonton's for my liking however overall a good lunch spot.

Great Pho, wish it Kane with slightly more noodles. But that’s because I’m a noodle myself.

We got beef Pho and it was the most BLAND Soup I have ever had! The beef tasted cheap and was full of sinew. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant. You’re better off going to TH Dang or Pho Hoang as they are the best pho places around. If I could rate this restaurant zero stars I would.

I eat out about 5 times a week. This is one of Winnipeg’s very best restaurants. Had chicken satay, spare ribs and a shrimp chow mien Delicious 5 star quality Asian food

I wish they are open a bit later, I’m always rushing to there because of their new closing time.

Friendly staff. Affordable prices. Big servings. Fairly quick service. Taste and quality of food range from Okay to Good. Except for the Special Grilled Chicken. That one is AMAZING. They used to open to 3am, now they're only open until 9:30pm. We were there one time and a man started mopping the floor next to us. It felt awkward and a bit unsanitary to be eating when someone is cleaning. Perhaps wait after people are done before washing the floors Overall, a good place to go for comfort Asian food.

It is what it is. I see people complaining about the service, you come in, they seat you, you write your order number down from the menu, the take it, serve you great food, and when your done, you go to cashier and pay. The food is great, I don't go to restaurants for conversation, I go to eat good food and this place delivers great food. They are usually fairly busy because the food is good, so expect that.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a late dinner and Mama Pho's was open. My boyfriend is a big fan of good Pho and it was my first experience. There is nothing special about the decor and the cleanliness is questionable. The waitress wasn't rude but not overly friendly either. I made it a point to state we both have a sensitivity to MSG and asked if that would be a problem in the preparation of our food and she said no. First, holy salt lick...SO much salt. Also, the request for limited MSG fell on deaf ears because both of us ended up sick later. They do have fair prices and large serving sizes but we will definitely go somewhere else that values the wellbeing of its customers.

Best pho and best staff ! Would recommend! Note the new hours! Good parking! Will revise if needed like no onions !

Great selection of dishes and the prices are excellent for the portion sizes. I have been on many occasions and have never been disappointed. If you come in a group, be prepared that there may be some timing issues for the various dishes. The food comes out when it's ready, not always at the same time for everyone at your table. The Bun bowls are awesome, as is the curry chicken soup.

This is my happy place! Try the spring rolls they are to die for, and the salad rolls are amazing!

I'm a big fan of Mama's Noodle House. I wish they were open a little later than 9:30. Don't expect top knotch service there, its quite basic at this restaurant. When ur finished with ur meal, just go to the cashier to pay for ur food. It's tasty food that is served fairly fast. I think the portions are a good fair size. Works for me when I don't feel like cooking. I've been battling a nasty cough lately and was craving homemade soup. I ordered their extra large bbq duck soup with egg noodles to go. It was tasty and I will get about 2-3 servings of it for myself. I also love their deluxe Pad Thai. And the Shanghai noodle dishes. My only complaint is that I wish they were open at least until 11:00pm for the late nite eaters. Considering they used to be open until 3 am.

our favorite place...food are good and friendly members of the staff...

Great place to eat for lunch if you can find parking! They always have 3 lunch specials from 11am-3pm/mon-fri which are very affordable and always delicious as well as big portions! Yum yum!

Had soup and a couple dishes and it was great. It's reasonably priced and service was fast. Went from st.james just for it.

The food is amazing the last few times we came we got the same waitress that was so rude she seated us then proceeded to wait on the family that came in after us (asian) and when we asked for water as well she told us she was too busy but when i pointed out that the people that came in after us had some already she scowled at us and slammed the water down. This is the third time she has done this to us as we are not Asian it seems so disheartened. I am not racist by any means but it was really upsetting as i watched her do this as well to other non-asian patrons

Everything was so very good. The service the food the presentation the price. I will definitely return with family and friends

Fast service and freindly I love this place good price

Loved the amount they give you , Service was ok , minus writing down your own order! Cleanliness was disgusting , turned me off , clean the crusty windows & I hope they washed their hands every time they came from a smoke. Sorry

Excellent service..fast...very tasty...we go there regularly.

Excellent food!! Fast & delicious! Great fast service

All the dishes had the same flavor and were all served in the exact same warmish sauce,<br/>I really got the sense the cook was either having a bad day or he/she really dislikes their job.<br/>At least there is the option to stop at the casino afterward and try and win your money back.

I’ve been here several times, and it’s always been very good. Normally I get the Vietnamese char broil pork noodle bowl, or a Thai curry bowl. This time I had the fried pork Shanghai noodle bowl. It was very very tasty, with lots of meat and fresh veggies.<br/><br/>Only complaints: Too many green peppers, and no chilli oil available. It wasn’t even remotely spicy, and It really needed some kick. They had Sriracha, but that flavour is a bit overwhelming for this dish. Apparently they normally had chilli oil, but it was Monday and they hadn’t made the week’s batch yet. <br/>

Love it that they used to be open late until 3 am though food is not of a good quality . Bad customer service. The waitress let us in at 9:10 (we didn't know they close at 9:30)  one of the cooks came to our table after our order came,  rudely and  madly said "we close at 9:30" and some words followed  which we didn't understand.  They should not  let customers in if they are not willing to wait until they are done eating or at least warn us about the hours.
Timothy963
We have dined here several times and  have tried several dishes without any complaints. The place isnt anything to speak of in terms of decor and its not as clean as a restaurant should be. Not too out of the ordinary for many Asian restaurants though. Dont expect the service of a Keg restaurant because the culture isnt really like that. Its like come in sit down order your food and then pay.lol.<br/>Kind of simple really but the food is not bad .We usually stop there on the spur of the moment as an alternative over fast food.

So, I used to go to Pho Mama a couple years ago after work because it was the only late night vietnamese "pho" place around. How desperate do you have to be?<br/><br/>I stopped going their about 2-3 years ago when I ordered Rare beef Pho #31 , and after mixing it up and eating a bit, found some chow fan noodles in the bottom of it accompanied by shrimp. I almost puked. Had I just eaten someones left overs? The pho broth was never that good to begin with and their noodles were usually getting old but this was it for me. I stopped going.<br/><br/>Well tonight I went back out of desperation because it was the only pho place open. I have a different place I go to now which is much better but just closed early this night of the week. Disgusting. I had #31 again and ordered salad rolls. I think their food has even gotten worse. The broth was disgusting and no amount of chili oil or other condiments could mask the horrible flavor.  The salad rolls were bland and just stuffed to the gills with noodle. And it tasted like it had been made days before. <br/><br/>The problem with this place is people keep going with no sense of what the food is supposed to taste like and because its open late. The restaurant is semi clean, its drafty especially in the winter, and the staff aren't always so courteous . They also charge something like $3 for the Arizona drinks which have a label on them that says 99 cents. As well, I have them scrap the extra bean sprouts leftover from somones order of pho onto another plate. That should have been the final sign to stop going there but.....I'm a fool.<br/>
Midnight Diner
I took a friend here for late night Vietnamese. What an embarrassment! Even accounting for the fact that the waiter only seemed to know a few words of English, he was rude. After being seated we placed our order and began waiting. And waiting. And waiting some more. After waiting for an hour (we timed it) without so much as the courtesy of a glass of water, let alone an explanation of why our order was taking so long, we walked out and dined elsewhere. Putting up with rude waiters and ridiculous wait times to get mediocre food is not worth it. Pho Mamas is the kind of restaurant that really makes you appreciate their competition. If you want good Vietnamese food, there are lots of better places than this.

I gave this place one more chance. I went here with a friend because Phuong Nam is closed. I reviewed this place last year in my other accnt that was deleted. Everything is the same from the last time I came here. I am very disappointed with the food quality, customer service and the cleanliness of the restaurant. Yes, this place is always packed. Yknow why? Because of the area.(near mcphillips and notre dame *hotspot*) That's it. I ate here today with my friend. As soon as we got in, we waited for about 2 minutes for them to take care of us. The filipina server there didnt even greet us and said "Sit anywhere". I was like "ok maybe shes busy". I am a very understanding person who tries to look at the pov of other people. So I dont think im picky or b*tchy. So we finally sat down. I ordered the #33. The Satay Pho.  As we were waiting, I told the filipina server that I want more lemon or limes. I like a lot of limes when I eat my pho. She gave me a look and said "ok ill check the back" 3-5 minutes later there is no update whether they can give me more limes so I asked the owner for some. The filipina there seems to hate her job. You can tell by looking at someone if they hate something. Thats what her face looked like. So after the lime/lemons came we were still waiting for our order. My friend pointed out the window and there is flies roaming around the window! So gross and I saw there is sooo much dust around that restaurant. It was so unpleasant. The filipina server did not even ask us if we want chopsticks jst because were filipino? Thats not a big deal but the surrounding is.  I will never come back again. Maybe ill be back for some Salad Rolls but thats it. The Satay Pho wasnt even worth it. If yall want good service, good food, good surroundings, go to PHUONG NAM. Its less than 5 min drive from pho mama. The parking there is much better. If you like satay pho like me, youll be suprised how the satay pho (#31) taste like at phuong nam. Btw the small size of pho at Phuong Nam is like a medium at Pho Mama's.<br/><br/>Reasons why not to eat here:<br/>Terrible customer service<br/>Surroundings arent clean (dusty + flies roaming around)<br/>Servers don't take care of you<br/>Bad/ok parking<br/>Overpriced<br/><br/>Reasons to eat here:<br/>Open late at night. THATS IT. :)<br/><br/>Take a few more minutes to drive to Phuong Nam if I were you guys. NOT WORTH IT.

Hands down THE best Red Curry Shrimp Noodle Soup I have ever had. Shrimp was cooked perfectly, veggies were still crunchy. The fried onions on top was a great contrast, flavour and texture wise. Perfect spicy level. I got the Large size for $8 something. There were only two sizes, large and Xlarge. I can't imagine how big the XL would be because the Large was huge! I loved the great big portion, it lasted me 3 tasty meals after my lunch on Monday. Spring rolls were really great too, it came with amazing plum sauce. I will come back again and again for that amazing soup. Service was friendly, maybe a little slow. People who arrived after us got their food before us and I had to ask twice for a to go container. Food is meh. Nothing special but if you're looking to eat Vietnamese food late at night, this is the place to be. I ordered their chicken vermicelli, it's just around $6.50 I think, big serving but chicken was too salty and didn't have any flavour. It just tasted chicken with too much salt. Salad rolls had too much vermicelli. Like their seafood udon noodle soup here though. If you want good Vietnamese food, there's a lot of better places than this.

This place is always packed!  The service is friendly and very fast, I think they pump people through all day and night.  My "go to" menu items here are the pork and shrimp salad rolls and the deluxe won ton soup, both are excellent.  I've also had their Pad Thai which is very good.  They always have three or four daily specials as well that are always enticing.  I've definitely never left this restaurant hungry or disappointed, I will be back.

One of my favs too . It's not the very best pho , but it's really good and the pricing is on point . This little place is always churning out good quality soup :)

I was just here the other night and the food was awesome. They gave large portions and the prices were reasonable. The only problem I had with the place was the service. They could really improve with their customer service skills.

"Minimum ORder $10!" ???? Since when?!! All i can say about this restaurant is the ambiance is good. The owner and the other guy is good but we went there tonight the service is terrible.. Just because we only order pho and its below $10 you will not take our order??! She just says " i cnt take your order it should be $10 you should order more" and she walk away no explanation..I find it rude your not suppose to treat customers like that.. The owners preserve thier reputation for years and just because of this arrogant lady you loose a regular customer.. And there is no such thing as a minimum charge! We've been there couple of times for snack! If you change your policy post it on your door "MINIMUM ODER $10" you dont need to be RUDE!

If your wanting Pho AVOID this restaurant. First time here and the service wasn't very good. They didn't even have authentic Vietnamese pho soup utensils or the sate sauce that can go in the soup. Also they didn't have any thyme leaves for you to add to your soup. The broth was tasty but that's about the only part I enjoyed, the soup all together wasn't very good and I won't be going back for pho or anything else.

The menu was almost overwhelmingly big, but it boils down to just a handful of variations each on a couple dozen basic dishes. I ordered a shanghai noodle dish with assorted meats, and it was brought steaming hot to my table, no joke, 45 seconds after she took my order. My dining partners got their food about a minute later. I am actually mystified by how this is possible, but wasn't about to complain. The meats were all cooked pretty well, though I did find the pork in my dish to be pretty fatty and slightly underdone for my taste in a dish like this. The sauce was good and savoury, though I'd wished for a bit of spice, and the noodles were meaty and firm and satisfying to eat. I'll certainly be back.

I would NOT recommend this place to anyone I know. I had a very bad experience the other night when I ate there with my family. We ordered a bowl of pho, honey garlic chicken, beef with satay sauce, and two bowls of white rice. First off, there was 6 of us eating. We only got 5 spoons and 5 forks and 3 bowls. Was it not obvious that 6 of us were sitting at the table? The waitress seemed annoyed to be serving us, as we had to ask to get the extra cutlery and bowls that we needed. <br/><br/>The main problem was with the beef with satay sauce. The dish was lacking meat overall. Each of us pretty much had one piece of beef. The dish was around $9 and we did not pay for 6 pieces of thin slices of beef with a large side of vegetables. When we were done searching for the beef, there was an abundance of red peppers, onions, and carrots still left on the plate. It was a disappointing dish that was not worth $9.<br/><br/>We decided to inform one of the waiters about the dish lacking in beef. When we politely told him that there was literally no beef, he started to raise his voice. We did not expect to get a free dish out of it; we just wanted to inform the restaurant about their dish lacking in beef. He yelled, "You eat and then you complain!" He then started to yell at my mom and my sisters that the dish was "made like that" and that he could not do anything about it. I told him that we ordered "beef with satay sauce" and not "vegetables with a side of beef." Would you be satisfied with this dish if you got it prepared this way? Of course you wouldn't. He proceeded to show us the menu but he brought out the wrong menu. The waiter told us that the menu said that the dish included vegetables and that we would have known that before ordering it. Let me tell you that they have two menus: one that looks like a book with descriptions of what is included in each dish and the other which was yellow and just had the name of the dishes. When we ordered our food, we were given the one with no descriptions. It just said "beef with satay sauce. There was no description included. When he showed us the menu, it was the one with the descriptions. We informed him that we were given the other menu and then he proceeded to yell at us and said that they were the same exact menu. My sisters continued to tell him that he was showing us the wrong menu. He refused to show us the other menu. This waiter was trying to prove that he was right and then walked away from us. <br/><br/>This was the worst customer service that I have ever received from a restaurant! We were not treated as customers! Instead of doing damage control, the waiter just became very defensive and got the help of the other waiters and the chef to claim that the food was supposed to be "made like that". By this time, the argument was heated and my family just wanted to leave. As we were paying up at the front, the argument was still ongoing and the waiter continued to yell at us. He did not give us a chance to explain our side of the situation. He just kept cutting us off and continued to tell us that we were wrong. What kind of customer service is this?!<br/><br/>There is nothing wrong with customers informing the staff about a concern they have with their food. As customers, we want to get our money's worth. <br/><br/>It was not even about the food anymore; we just wanted a simple apology in the end for his rude behaviour and his poor customer service skills. He does not know how to properly talk to people. His intent was to prove a point but all he did was show just how unprofessional him and his staff were. <br/><br/>Overall, instead of having a peaceful family dinner, we felt attacked more than anything else. We will never eat here again! If you want to enjoy a simple meal with loved ones, this is simply not the place to be at!

Fast service and they're open until 3AM. The best peanut sauce in the city. I love the grilled beef salad rolls. I would not go here for the chow mein. You can get better tasting chow mein in other Chinese restaurants.

Sometimes I hear about a restaurant I should try, but don’t realize how close to me it actually is. Mama’s Noodle House on McPhilip’s Street is one. I’ve had several friends comment on Pho Mama’s. Yet, somehow I’ve missed out on the fact that it just down the street from Lucky Supermarket. I guess I should have played closer attention. Especially since it’s open until 3 am and most restaurants in the area are closed by 10, or so it seems.

I enjoy the food but agree about the older post about the fork. They actually look surprised and slightly offended when I ask for chopsticks. But it is what it is, I still go back and walk away amused.

Fast friendly busy DELICIOUS. Food 10<br/>Ambience 5 (converted garage)<br/><br/>Allways driving by....the smallish parking lot is allways busy. Finally figured it was tome for a quicky takeout. Not a big spicy fan. I ordered the eveything but the kichen sink shanghi noodles... it was ample for two and delicious 14.00.<br/>That and a huge bowl of 1 of their dozens of soups would be more than enough for 2.<br/>WORTH THE STOP...ENJOY!

Poor service. The manager doesn't have any manner..very poor service..dirty environment..never going there anymore..totally pissed off..

Great!. My husband and I go about 3 times a month. We really like how it's open really late. Although it's like a typical asian restaurant (dirty) the food is always good. The staff is always nice whenever we go. Then again, when it comes to dealing with asians, I don't expect much either. (I'm asian myself haha) I wish they would automatically bring you chopsticks instead of forks though... The pho is always good. The vermicelli is tasty too. They did change their calamari though. Used to be big pieces, the way my husband likes. But now they are tiny pieces with more bread than meat in it. The salad rolls are so yummy too. Your best bet is to not expect too much and you'll be fine.

The Food is good with affordable price and available till late night. Unfortunately very bad customer service. The employees are so arrogant. Will never go back again...

Not going back. They have good hours if you want go out late, but the place can get very busy, staff is often rude and not veyr helpful when you have questions. I used to go there often, not anymore, there are much better Vietnamese places in the city.

YEAH GREAT FOOD. Delicious....good... Food...recommend

Came here for lunch with a friend. The place was quite busy. I ordered the Curry Chicken steamed rice. it was decent, a tad on the salty side & possibly 4 pieces of chicken, the rest was all vegetables, rice and it was overly drenched in sauce. My friend got the wonton soup, and when we recieved it, there was many vegetables and possibly two wontons. It also tasted horrible and salty to the point where my friend only had two spoons and couldn't eat anymore. We told the staff and she proceeded to get the owner in which i had told her the problem. She got very defensive and told us that we should have asked the servers what was in it and that is how it was made.We had no clue because usually when we order wonton soup from other places there isnt alot of vegetables like this soup had. We had told her plain and simple, we are not paying for the soup and that my friend did not want anything else to eat and she proceeded to tell us she will only let this go one time, but no more. It was almost as if they had everything prechopped, thrown into some broth and microwaved. They did not apologize and did not say thank you for our buisness. Very unimpressed with this restaurant. Would not recommend to anyone. Horrible service.

They only give Asian people chop sticks , white people forks

I used to like this place. Its been more than a year since I went to Pho Mama. I was a person that did care about anything and just ate. Today I was at Pho Mama and I realized what a restaurant it was. My bf and I came in. They're all just chatting and im the one who said for two. It was already rude by then. We sat. They gave us the menu and gave us one piece of napkin. Not one for each person, but just one. That wasn't that bad until they didn't give us water until our orders came. I saw then give water right away to other people. I ordered Satay Beef Pho and my bf ordered shrimp fried rice and chicken. So the order came. They did not give us chopsticks but I realized that they gave some to this Korean couple beside us right after their soup came without telling the staff anything. THATS JUST RUDE AND RACIST. Ugh. This is the first time that I really complain about a restaurant. So we ate and I realized that its so dusty where were eating. I also saw how this other couple were just waiting for a menu when they got in while the staff were just chatting and they had to get one themselves. Lastly, since they only gave us one napkin, my bf and I tore it in half since the staff seems busy. But before we left I asked for a few because I have a cold. One of the staff just gave me the napkin and just looked away without saying "Thank you, have a nice day". But she say that to the white couple who left a few minutes than us. Srsly. STAFF AT PHO MAMA IS SO RUDE. WE ONLY WENT HERE TODAY BECAUSE PHUONG NAM WAS CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY. NO CHOPSTICKS BECAUSE WE LOOK LIKE WE CANT HANDLE CHOPSTICKS? NO EXTRA NAPKINS? DUSTY SURROUNDINGS? Screw that. IF YALL WANT GOOD FOOD AND GOOD COMPANY, PHUONG NAM IS THE WAY.

Excited to try more. I'm quite surprised by some of the negative reviews; maybe I went on a better day. They do have a SPECIAL Sunday menu (that I ordered from) that was very dynamic, exciting and surprising. I could only have fish that day; ordered the shrimp and spring roll (which has pork in it BTW) vermicelli bowl. It was fresh, vibrant, and a great portion. Service was friendly and fast. I can't wait to try the duck! Calamari was nicely done as well. Give it a try on Sundays!

Things are slipping. We normally go here once a week, and usually have the vermecilli bowl. Sometimes, the shrimp is a bit fishy, like it was frozen too long, but the rest of the bowl is very good. Last time we went, we had Rice Rolls for the appetizer and Shanghai Noodles and Chicken with rice and vegetables. The appetizer came at the same time as the meals. There was very little meat in either of the dishes. The food was very ordinary. There was alot of rice and onions though. The service is always friendly, but they are slipping in the food quality department.

Delicious. I went to Mama's Noodle House at lunch time with a couple of people, it was absolutely packed, but we took that as a good sign and waited it out. After a short wait we were seated and our orders were promptly taken. It is a pretty small place but has an eclectic and fun feel to it. I ordered the Satay Pork Vermicelli Soup, medium size, and some meat wontons. The wontons were delicious and had a nice mixture of spice and crunch. The soup was outstanding, HUGE portion, and full of flavour. All in all I will be coming back again and again for their delicious food.
Jason
Food was great, service was funny and direct, the soup could have used some basil in my opinion
MJ
The service at Mama's Noodle House was very good and fast. I ordered the fried pork buns and two types of hot and sour soup. I found it odd how fast the food came actually. I ordered take out and it took about 5 minutes to get my entire order. The fried buns were very good but the soup was pretty bad. The soup was so incredibly hot that it melted my take out container on the way home. I'm wondering if all the food was prepared and microwaved? Not sure how that happened, but I've never experienced that before.

Great All Around. I had gone here to try Pho for the first time. While there we decided to pick up a few more dishes as well to try. We had ordered spring rolls, lo mein, chow mein and pad thai. Each one of them was amazing and we were stuffed. Even reheating them the next day we had gobbled the leftovers down. It's a great place and we will be returning to try more of the menu.

Decent Place Late Night. Been a go-to place for my friends when we are out til 1am, the service has been ok, and the have good food at good prices, they give smaller portions now, but still one of the only places in West End WInnipeg open at 1am .
Jason
Went there with my buddy and ordered two soup. and was waiting for food and got spring rolls that we didn't even ordered. so i thought they were just giving them out. later we paid the bill and went home and just to make sure i re calculated the bill and i was charged for extra 3.9 plus tax.. what kind of restaurant does this to customers? got charged for something i that didnt even ordered. never gonna go back there again. worst ever.
Francis K Lai
Utensils. Went their to eat so many times and had an issue with the serving utensils, were unclean and strongly smelt of bleach. Talked to the servers and was ignored. Never going again, and not recommending it to any of my friends.
Thomasdgs
Great value. Service was fine, restaurant was clean, portions were good, and good value I believe. Three of us ate for under $45, and took enough food home to feed another person. My first experience with Pho and it was great. Keep in mind that its a diner and not Iche Ban, so set your standards accordingly.Id deffinatly recommend it, and ill deffinatly be going again.

Really surprised to see this many negative comments about the service. The front staff had always been friendly and accommodating during my visits. <br/>I love the shrimp lo mein. Always generous with shrimp and hot!
Skinnyfoodie
Love it here!!! I don't eat red meat, so I like how they have a section on their menu where all the soups are all made with seafood/chicken broth. I always go back and never have any problems.

You Gotta (Not) Eat Here!,. I've had better food from a Food Court (and cheaper too). I was happy to see that I wasn't the only person who wrote a review about the disgusting Butter Chicken. Just thinking about it makes me sick! I couldn't believe it when it came to our table. I thought that maybe it was the wrong order because I've had it many times at other restaurants, but unfortunately it wasn't. The Butter Chicken that I know is real white breast meat, sliced thin and lightly coated and fried in butter (melt in your mouth delicious). Mama's Noodle House's version is chopped chicken (mostly dark meat - legs and thighs) chopped in big hunks and battered. I could not eat this mess. The chicken was glistening with grease, it was full of fat and the tops of the chicken legs had not been cleaned properly, the blood was deep-fried-black YUCK! But it doesn't stop there. We ordered Shrimp and Chicken Noodle Soup, we got Chicken and sliced Pork. When I mentioned it to the waitress or the owner, she brought me a little soup bowl filled with clear broth and a few Shrimp. I did not eat the soup because the fat from the pork was floating on the surface. When we paid, I told the waitress that we are not going to pay for the soup. I did this because the customer at the table beside us got the wrong soup and the waitress did not want to take it back. I watched her trying to convince him to eat it. Finally, the guy said that he would keep it as long as he got a discount. I'm surprised that she didn't offer him a discount from the beginning. Or better yet, give it to him for free. No - I'm not surprised. Some people still want you to pay for something, even when it's their fault. After I witnessed that, I decided that I am not going to pay for my soup. I love a good argument once in awhile especially when I'm right. So, I told the waitress that I am not paying and she told the owner. Well, she was not happy because after all she told me that she did bring me some shrimp. Well, I told her that I did not order soup with pork in it - especially soup with fat floating on the top. She reluctantly took it off the bill. I've eaten at similar restaurants, paid the same price but the quality compared to Mama's Noodle House is far more superior. This is one of the worst restaurants that I ever ate in. We took home the left-overs (and there was lots), because I didn't want them to serve it to other customers. It's terrible to say that, but that is how I feel about that place.

Disgusting Customer Service. Apparently the customer doesn't come first in this restaurant.<br/><br/>I made my way to Mama's Noodle House as a way to relieve some stress, but it seemed to do more harm than good. I asked for a Honey Garlic Chicken combo, and it came quite quickly. However when I received my "meal", I saw it was severely lacking in any meat (the amount of meat could be held in one hand), and the plate was overloaded with rice to compensate for it. This wasn't going to fly with me.<br/><br/>I politely asked my waitress, "Do you normally serve this much meat, because I don't really have a whole lot."<br/><br/>She then tried to explain that it was like that because it was a "combo". Listen lady, what you gave me was a plate of fried rice, not a "combo." I stood there completely dumbfounded, waiting for her to give me a serious response. She then got my message and told me she would inform the kitchen of this problem.<br/><br/>Now at this point I wouldn't have cared, as long as I got what I paid for I would have been a happy customer. But my waitress did not even apologize, and was completely unreceptive to MY apologies for bringing this up.<br/><br/>And while I was paying, I was told I would then be informed whether the meal had or did not have a lot of meat. Are you serious? Why would I bother coming back? So you can tell me I'm paying $11 for a small handful of chicken? And if I have a problem with that, then I can go **** myself? Screw that. I'm never stepping inside this restaurant ever again.

This place deserves a better rating<br/><br/>Your not going to get a 5 star experience from Maya's Noodles but the place has good service and is open late hours. I would rather eat here than anywhere else that's open at 3am<br/><br/>8/10 - I usually go here once a month

Mamas noodle house is delicious! Ordered around 12:30am, food was ready in 15mins. Perfectly cooked, huge pieces of breaded (#6)Calamari with sweet chili sauce, (#1)egg rolls, and tender, spicy (#156)Beef with lemongrass & Hot peppers. Everything was great. <br/><br/>Best Calamari I've had in a long time, People! Huge pieces.

I like the place. The food is pretty cheap for the portion sizes and although I usually have the same thai curry soup with chicken n rice,Iv'e tried other meals and they're decent for the cost.Service can be a little slow when they're busy.I would recommend at least one visit.

Horrible service.. food was really good but the service was horrid! We also were given cutlery that wasnt cleaned and the food we had ordered was cold in places ... better service would of made me come back.. but to be honest they serve asians with way more respect then white folk. Everyone should be treated equally no matter what.. a customer is a customer. Overall rating 4 out of 10.. mostly because of the customer service.

One of my Faves!. I see lots of complaints about this place but it is my favorite asian restaurant. I'll admit there are some menu items that are not great but once you find that menu item that suits you, it's consistently amazing. I am referring specifically to: rare beef pho and the salad rolls. Service is decent... staff are quirky (always a good story to come out of that place!), VERY GOOD PRICES.

I DO NOT LIKE PHO MAMA. I honestly don't see why so many people go there. The food is terrible and i've been to a fair share of Vietnamese restaurants in the city. I won't even go here if i'm starving and craving Vietnamese food and they're the only place that's open. That should indicate how much I'll avoid this place! Eat ANYWHERE else people!
Patrick
First dish not hot enough. Went with a friend. Ordered two dishes. First one was not hot, but only warm when it came. 2nd one was hot when it came (could see steam coming off) but cooled off quicker than i desired (wonder if they could use hotplates to keep the food hot longer?). Took 10 mins for the food to come. Wasn't slow like another commenter indicated. Went at 9pm on Monday 4.22. Place was 60-70% full.

I have been to probably a dozen vietnamese restaurants and this ranks up there in the top three alongside phuong nam and pho no.1. The deluxe wonton soup is the best in the city in my opinion. The vermicelli bowls are awesome. Servers are friendly and never have to wait too long. They also have some sweet fake lobsters hanging on the wall. Booya!!!

Went here twice now. First time when it first open and now 3 years later. Nothing special. Food is ok.

I like eating here, great food for the money! Just gets annoying that my girlfriend and I come here and we always have to ask for chopsticks, I think we come here enough for the staff to know.. Also it takes forever for their dishes to come out even when it's not even busy!
Factual Food Critic
I go here often to order the grilled chicken on rice. Definitely a huge portion for $10. Service is always below par, but they can make a mean grill chicken!
Emma
Went there with my boyfriend, ordered the butter chicken, not what I expected, I asked the waitress what that was, there was no meat on the bones. She said it was cut up chicken legs, deep fried then butter sauce poured on them..The greasiest Awfull food ever, boyfriend had the noodles and chicken..both our lips were dripping with grease..felt sick after.

Oily. I find their soups too oily...
Genius Juan
Just pure garbage. Ate here twice made me throw up twice

I like number 36 and 11. Fast service.

I ordered a chicken vegetable dish and the portioning is very small , also when I dine in last week service is very poor . The place is very small

Don't ever go to this restaraunt I am a very very disappointed customer not only was they're service horrible they're food and soup was the worse I've ever had my whole life, and I'm not a picky eater, the only thing good about this place was the water we ate a couple bites of everything, paid and left.
SpiceLife
Not so good. Below average. They have a wide range of asian style noodles. Most of the dishes (I've tried most) just aren't executed well and lack in taste.
Pho-natic
Great authentic food for very low prices. OPEN LATE! which scores bonus points! I love the crispy chicken with fried rice. Pad Thai is amazing if you have a taste for spice. Deep fried won tons are a great snack. The pho is what makes me come back simply delicious. The service is very fast, waiters and waitresses are very friendly which always makes the visit pleasant. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR GREAT FOOD @ LUNCH DINNER OR LATE NIGHT!

The Pho wasn't that great. Ordered the rare beef and it was so hard to chew, the soup wasn't clear as other restaurants I've been to. It just looked dirty in there which makes me lose my appetite a bit. I recommend Kim Thanh on Notre Dame, Phuong Nam or Pho No. 1.

Just got some take out. First time eating here. The Deluxe Wonton soup was delicious! Also ordered the Pad Thai. Very yummy. Huge portions and good prices. Will be saving the rest of the Pad Thai for another meal.

Food was good and quick, customer service was lacking. When i phoned in the order the guy on the telephone thought He heard me say I wanted shanghai noodle when I said pot tai noodle this i found out when I came to pick up the order he was very adamit that I ordered the shanghai noodle after telling him I hadn't several times heck I didnt even know what shanghai noodle was he gave me a menu for next time I should've told him to buy a hearing aid!

It is OK. Well, I've been here about 4 times, and usually cause i am either A. hung-over or B. pure convenience. I live in the area, and it is just easy to get to, and different from fast food.<br/><br/>However, i have now only found basically one dish I like.<br/><br/>But before that, I have had different things from the menu such as.<br/><br/>Beef soup<br/>Vegetarian soup<br/>Calamari-if you can all it that, it was very gross and super chewy.<br/>shrimp soup, and deep-fried shrimp<br/><br/><br/>all above was gross, the shrimp was very gritty, and not cleaned well.<br/><br/>However, i have not been there in some while, but was just there today.<br/><br/>I got the combo honey chicken, comes with rice (which i dont eat rice), vegies and an eggroll.<br/>It was pretty good for the cost. It had a nice sauce on it and the vegies were done really well.<br/>My partner got the breaded shrimp combo with the same fixings, and he said the shrimp was really good and not gritty.<br/><br/>Well when we did go there-before it was open till 3am in the morning- the atmosphere was questionable, very out-dated, dingy and not very appealing and the chairs were very uncomfortable.<br/><br/>We went today and they got really nice booths, super super comfy yay.... we went because the amount of cars that are there almost daily in the evening is alot, the whole parking lot is full so we thought we give it ago... not sure if they got more money and now spending it, but the quality is better, i didnt go to the bathroom but the first couple of times before they renovated, were gross and dingy so not sure if that has changed at all..i am still sceptical about their shrimp, but the combos are good.<br/><br/>i also like that i have red rooster sauce, chilli sauce and teriyaki sauce at my disposal. Downfall i wish they served alcohol, a beer would have been good. also i wish they would get traditional rice green tea, just bagged green tea i can make at home.<br/><br/>Food comes fairly quick, doesnt always come all at once and sometimes others have to just start eating while you are left waiting.<br/><br/>I like it and dont like it all at the sametime, but if you want chinese or whatever this is considered, its pretty decent, id stick with the combos though.<br/><br/>Miss.Pink

Not my mama. I've tried this place twice and both times it's been horrible. It's a good late night place if there's nothing else but the food is fast because it's usually not cooked properly. The stir fry ingredients seem to be cooked in advance as some bits of the breaded chicken are cold in the middle. The flavours are pretty bland if you ignore the extreme saltiness. The beef noodle soup was barely hot with too much anise flavour in the broth. We really need a midnight chinese snack house in this city!
ILoveGoodFood
Oh Mama, It's GOOD!. I went to Mama's after seeing that it is always packed at any time of the day. A packed restaurant is always a good sign that the food is amazing. WOW, it was so good! I've had the Shanghai Noodles, the soup bowls, and various other traditional "take-out" style dishes. ALL were excellent. I would go back here again and again and again and again and.... You get the idea!

Late Night Eats. My first impression was good; the food looked lively and colourful. After being seated for a while, I noticed a lot of dust on the ledge by the table. Stuff like that always makes me lose my appetite in a restaurant. Also, the carrots in my food didn't feel and taste as fresh as they looked. But other than that, I enjoyed my meal, leaving full and satisfied. The servers were cheerful, friendly and attentive, filling our glasses and making sure everything was going well. There are other Vietnamese restaurants that I would choose over this, but if I ever have a late night craving, I'll know where to go!

Need more of these around..... Combines all the right things that make up a great lunch spot. Excellent food (fresh, portion size, taste), quick service and fair price. If you are looking for that hidden gem, local restaurant where you can take your work/school buddies and surprise them with your urban savy, you will not regret to take them here.
KANA
Delicious, delicious udon. If you are white, they won't give you chopsticks. You have to ask for chopsticks/soup spoon. This doesn't bother me - just something I always find funny. I go here for the udon. There is a special udon that isn't listed on the menu, bbq pork, but they do have it. It's the best place to get udon in the city IMO! I've had some other things and didn't really care for them. They are open til 3am every day so it's an awesome place to go to after the bar, or when you're sick, or when you've been up late studying.......sometimes all of the above.
Jae
It's alright. Food was mediocre. one thing that bothered me was the service. The waiter never greeted us, gave us any rice, silver ware, or plates to eat with. had to ask for everything...

Good Pad Thai. I decided to go here, since one of my favorite lunch time spots, Vietnamese Garden, has closed. However, it happens to now be owned by the same lady as Vietnamese Garden, which means pretty much same tasty food! I cannot speak for the soups or many of the dishes because I have not had a chance to sample them. What I come for is the Pad Thai. No it is nothing like what is served at Magic Thailand, but none the less it is delicious! I had it with tender shrimp, red and green peppers, onion, celery, rice noodles, and bean sprouts, sprinkled with peanuts and a lime. Very delicious, very filling--had to take half of it home, and for only $8.95. I will definitely be back to sample more of the menu. Disappointed that they do not serve bubble tea here, as they did at Vietnamese Garden.
Beh
Unethical... Doesn't value customer.. Mediocre food. Do not go to this restaurant unless you are dying of hunger and there's nowhere else to eat. One time we went their Food are just reheated. Server and Cashier are unethical, other time they refuse to serve us because they have this minimum purchase policy. Crazy! We can't even finish 2 XL soup how much more five of those. We went to LOGAN CORNER instead, there we enjoyed the food and the friendly service.

If you're looking for late night grub.... This is the place for late night food if you don't wanna go to McDonalds. It's an Asian establishment and they serve mostly Vietnamese food. Their pho (Pho tai) was lacklustre. Not much flavour to the broth. We also ordered the summer rolls which were even more "meh" than the pho broth itself. <br/><br/>On another occasion we tried the Vietnamese beef stew on rice. Disappointed. It tastes like you poured a Chunky's Beef Stew can on top of a bed of white rice.

Yummy spring rolls! Yummy delux vermicelli! Yummy spicy beef noodle soup! Great value!

Great soups !!. Bin hear a few times already I think the Pho is excellent, lots of meat and the broth is so tasty. Really good salad rolls as well and served with peanut sauce, yum. Very affordable as well.

The quality of food is poor and portions were small. I ordered BBQ vermicelli, calamari and salad rolls. The staff is quite unpleasant to deal with. The only thing this restaurant has going for it, are their late hours.
John
Simple and tasty. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes and prices are decent. Not a high end establishment but a nice neighborhood Asian diner.

Best Shanghai noodles ever!! This place is awesome, food is so fast and always hot. Love this place late night too.

Pho mama is only good for late night cravings and last resorts. For someone that has eaten pho basically from almost every Vietnamese restaurant in Winnipeg, the pho at pho mama is mediocre. The portions are small and the soup is okay. The variety of meat they serve with their delexue pho is very poor. If you want pho that is actually good I suggest you don't bother here.
Caybaybay
Meh. There are way better and cheaper vietnamese restaurants. It wasn't bad, but I feel no reason to come back when there are so many amazing restaurants
Mark Burch
Soups are great!. Soups are terrific, kinda has a late night diner feel to it... service is quick and the owner(?) makes everyone feel at home... must be why lots of his customers come back! Through my observations he's always joking around with the regulars and they seem to enjoy it.<br/><br/>Prices are tvery reasonable for the amount of food you get, and they are open till 3 am on the weekends. Beats the number one dirtiest place to eat in Winnipeg according to the Free Press, you know, the legendary K*n's!

Could be so much better. I was very excited to try the noodles here but sadly, I was disappointed. I have trouble with restaurants that claim to serve Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai and Japanese fare in one place. Because in my experience, any place that tries to be all things to all people ends up with mediocre results.<br/><br/>I had #67 - Vietnamese Spicy Vermicelli Soup (medium size for $5.95). This was a pretty generous medium sized bowl of thick vermicelli noodles. This as a good Vietnamese dish that is pretty authentic with it's flavour and spices.<br/><br/>I tried #320 - beef pad Thai ($7.50) - this was a very disappointing dish. One look and I knew this was not going to taste like a proper pad Thai. It looked like a dark brown oily mess. It was very greasy as the oil just pooled at the bottom of the plate. Not very appetizing. The noodles ended up tasting like a Chinese noodle dish with lot of soy sauce instead of the classic pad Thai ingredients. They sprinkled peanuts on it so I guess that makes it Thai. I would not order this again...better off going to a real Thai restaurant for this.<br/><br/>I tried #127 - shrimp Shanghai noodles ($7.95). This one was decent but definitely tastes like it came from a greasy spoon (good or bad depending on what you want). The flavour was not very prominent but the taste of grease takes over. I prefer the Shanghai noodles from North Garden and Sun Fortune.<br/><br/>#60 - Mama's Deluxe Vermicelli ($7.50) comes with fine vermicelli noodles, spring roll, BBQ pork and pork ball, lettuce, cucumbers and bean sprouts. There wasn't as much BBQ pork compared to other Vietnamese places. And the meat wasn't as flavourful.<br/><br/>#315 - Green Curry Chicken Rice Noodle soup ($7.50) was my least favourite dish. I am use to stronger flavours in my Thai green curry dishes so this was a disappointment. The broth tasted more like coconut milk than anything and there was this slight after taste that didn't agree with me.<br/><br/>The place is located on McPhillips, closer to Notre Dame (across from Wicker World). Lots of windows surround this small casual restaurant. Service is really nice and warm and food service was pretty fast. Every dish is under $10 and the portions are fairly generous.<br/><br/>Overall, I was disappointed with the dishes I tried. They should maybe consider scaling down their dishes and concentrate on a few good ones. Their Vietnamese dishes tend to be the better dishes compared to the Chinese or Thai dishes.

Noodles Galore!. Mama's Noodle House is the perfect name for this restaurant. The variety of noodles are extensive - my top favorites being the Shanghai noodles, Pad Thai and Vietnamese Beef Stew... oh and of course PHO! The items on the menu are quite cheap, considering the large portions. It has become one of my new favorite spots, especially now that they are open late nights (3 AM!) on the weekend. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the restaurant isn't too large which makes it a lot more cozy.

Great find !!. This is a place I would never have pulled up into on my own. It was casually recommended by a coworker one evening last week and I have eaten there 4 times since then !! From the Shanghai Noodle deluxe to the Thai green curry soup with rice noodles and especially the two tofu dishes I've also tried one with Satay Sauce and the other with Lemon Grass and Hot Pepper...all were fabulous !! Dishes are a little heavy on the oil but if you ask for "lite oil" they are happy to accommodate !! Prices are extremely reasonable too !!
Tim
Excellent comfort food... Asian style!. If you like noodles… and I mean REALLY like noodles… this is the place for you! If you aren't a fan, Mama's noodle house just may convert you! They feature an absolutely dizzying array of noodle types and sizes from ultra thin chow mien to fluffy rice noodles to thick velvety egg noodles, each with a choice of accompaniment from seafood, beef, chicken, pork, veggie or supreme (featuring all of the above) all done quickly to perfection. If noodles aren't your thing, they have an equally dizzying array of classic Chinese soups, appetizers and entrée's, all prepared quickly in enormous portions and available anytime. Service is always fantastic but seating is limited within the renovated sub shop so arrive early, you'll need time to work through the menu and whatever you select!

Pho Mama’s Noodle House is a small restaurant that primarily serves Vietnamese food, but also offers favorites from Chinese, Japanese and Thai cuisine. This quick and easy restaurant is our go-to place for Pho, and by the looks of the always-packed parking lot, we’re not alone. Mama’s Noodle house is great for a fast lunch and for late-night eats; they are open till 3 am on the weekends. Their menu begins with your usual appetizers; salad rolls, calamari and spring rolls being some of our favorites. For this visit to Pho Mama’s, we tried the
