I ordered from skip the dishes tonight . And saw this place was on it . Me and my other half all summer wanted to try this place so we decided to try it tonight . We ordered chilli fries, poutine, fatboy, bacon cheeseburger and deep fried pickles . By far this place is our #1 new place to go for burgers and fries. Chilli fries and poutine amazing . Burgers VERY tasty . SO GOOD . This place will definitely see my name pop up on skip the dishes and pick up orders on a regular basis : ) !!

I went here multiple times to pick up a lunch for school. I would get a 911 or a burger and I was never disappointed. The staff were polite and waiting was timely. It's not overly pricey but be prepared to spend $10-$15 on just yourself.

Ordered the fat boy and Mac and cheese bites via skip the dishes and I was not disappointed. It was exactly what I was looking for, a big sloppy burger that I would never eat in public. The Mac and cheese bites were perfect and I’d order both again in a heartbeat.
I went here on the last day of Le Burger Week 2016. No line up to order, but a massive amount of people waiting to get their food. It took about 30 minutes till our order was ready, but it was definitely worth it!
You could tell that even for a regular burger and fries, this place would be great. The patty was flavourful and loaded with charcoaly goodness, the bun was light and fluffy, and the fries were just perfect. For Le Burger Week, their special had cheese, perogies, sour cream and chili on it. It was messy, but so, so good! I loved it.
I will definitely be back to try their regular burgers. And hopefully the milkshake machine won't be broken on my next visit.

Top notch. Best burger in the city. Haven't tasted a change with the new ownership. Still love the fries. My dining companion claims the veggie burger is as good as ever. The curry mayo is fantastic.
Had a great interaction with the owner at the end of the 2012 season. They were out of most things (including veggie burgers) so he made my vegetarian friend a grilled cheese out of a bun.
Good Burgers. This place has good burgers that are different than most. They offer a variety of fries / chips as well. My kids enjoy the ice cream and they even have a doggie dish. Its only a walk up window lso be prepared to eat in your car or at one of the few pic nic tables.

Veggie burger is much improved this year. They split the patty into 2, so now it's cooked through & not burnt on the outside. Excellent adjustment North Star!
Opening Day finally!!!. I have been coming here for years and years. The food is so good and the portions have gotten bigger over the years!! It's been a long winter without the huge bag of fries. The owner was very friendly and let me know that new menu items were very close but wouldn't expand.... Definite must have.

I'm visiting winnipeg and just came here for veggie burgers. I was delightfully surprised with this amazing dessert! I was gifted this coffee cake as a welcome to Manitoba gesture. I highly recommend you come to this place. The ice cream will cool you down and the hospitality will warm your heart.
Having eaten at this place since it opened I can tell you that they are great, but it's changed a bit with the new owners. While the PB& J Burger is an an amazing combination of flavours, I would really like to see the meat portion returned to it's previous ample portion. I love taking the children for their $0.50 baby cone. Perfect size for the toddlers. No doubt their fries are also amazing!

Had the PB&J burger. They put hot sauce on it. It sounds odd but is very good. The surprise was the hotdog. It was very good. Not just some plan dog on a bun. It had pickles cheese onions and some type of sauce on it. Delicious! If you like drive in food, give the North Star Drive-In a try. You won't regret it
Best place in the north end. Love this place. Burgers are juicy and tasty, fries are the best in Canada! I've never tried but i hear the veggie burger (not just for vegetarians) is also the best in Canada! The new owner is great too. Prices are extremely fair for the quality and portions. Fast food chains are $10 for a tiny burger and cold fries, this place kicks their asses
Burgers so fresh Will Smith is jealous . . .. I went to the North Star last evening for the first time since it's been under new ownership. The new owner, whom I believe is named Dale, was extremely helpful and passionate. Just seemed like a cool dude. I asked what he recommended and he made me a Deluxe Burger and my friend a Bacon Cheese Burger. Both were amazing. It's one of the best burgers I have ever had. He also made us a generous portion of home made fries (drooling), sweet potato fries and home made fried potato chips. I was super impressed and will be back. Not sure if I am brave enough to try the peanut butter & jam burger with hot sauce but I am intrigued. I will be back!

Not what it once was, but still pretty good. My wife and I used to try to make it out to the North Star every other week when it was run by the Loewen family a couple years back. The place really was really welcoming and it seemed like there was a real community of followers back then. The food was of course unparralled, and though expensive, was definitely worth it.
Since the new owner took over, we've only been a handful of times. He is pretty friendly, but his staff are definitely not. And at this point into the second year of new ownership, we've given up on the veggie burgers. The new owner has the same tried and true recipe that the Loewens sold him, but his staff way-over cook the patties. They're not quite burnt, but are not far off. They've also reduced the size of the burger substantially. It used to be super messy, but is now very easy to eat. (Fortunately for my wife and I, I've reverse-engineered the recipe so we can enjoy the veggie burgers whenever we want :)
It's not all bad though. The fries are maybe better now than they ever were. They are super crispy on the outside but soft in the middle. And the burgers are still as good as they ever were... at least the mini cheese burgers are. Although the burgers get a (delicious) crust on them, they're kept nice and juicy on the inside.
Next time we go back, I plan on trying their new PB & J burger with bacon and cock sauce... can't wait.

Best Burger Joint, Hands Down. This is by far the best place to grab a burger and fries in the city. Everything on the menu is delicious, but be warned, the serving sizes of the fries are GIGANTIC one order is enough to fill 2 people. The Poutine is great with real squeaky cheese curds which is uncommon for a small place like this. The veggie burger is also fantastic, totally different from the norm. The owner and staff are very friendly. The North Star gets 5 stars in my books.

I love the north star! Their soft ice cream is amaziiiiing and their serving portions are huge. I love their sweet potato fries. It's a little pricey and the wait is long, but I always come back!
Liked the cheeseburger, loved my fries. Service was friendly. Parking lot was full but easy to park on nearby street. Person next to me was eating poutine, looked pretty good, might go back and try that and my partner had the veggie burger and loved it.
Been hearing about this place for years.... ...and I finally got around to it this weekend. It was well worth it, and looks like I'll be coming back.
The main reason: The awesome homemade fries. Given their humble (odd?) packaging - a simple paper bag - I was a little skeptical at first. But then I tasted them and they were a wonderful sack of goodness.
I also had the standard cheeseburger, which also was quite good. It has a neat crispiness to it that I've never really had elsewhere. It's different ... but good. I'd recommend going without the red onions... but that's just me :)
My first visit took me years to get around to. But I'm sure I'll be coming back sometime this summer with friend in tow.

Veggie Burger. Always on the hunt for a good Veggie burger, the NorthStar Version is one of the best in the city. I'm not a vegetarian by any means, but when done right, a veggie burger can be a beautiful thing.
And the North Star has something going on with Curry and some other spices, along with a great light texture that makes me go for that over their already really nice burgers.
Give it a try, totally worth the extra buck or two.

Everytime I ate at the north star drive in I have never been disapointed, your always greeted by a smiling face that makes you feel welcome and if your a regular luncher they usually are really good at remembering names and personal faves. I love the fact the the food is fresh, and you can tell that its cooked with care and consideration. The prices are decent you pay for quality food and service. Since the north star has opened it has become an asset to the community and a resturant that has proceeded to blow me away every season with new twists and clever recipes. looking forward to many more season to come!

THE NORTH STAR IS A STAR. I have been to the North Star a few times. The other day was my first time back since it opened this year, and I am still impressed. I have now now tried a number of different menu items, and they are all very, very good. Plus they offer a number of unique choices for a burger joint. First off, their fries are my favourite of any burger joint in Winnipeg, it's worth visiting just pick some up, and the fries are a good value for the money. The burgers here are about as homemade as your going to find. A a unique twist is the blue cheese burger, to satisfy those who love blue cheese. The hotdogs are great too, the use the smoked European style wieners, made here in Winnipeg. So what I had was their Friday Night Burger this time. Their homemade cheeseburger with a hotdog wiener on it. it's like eating a burger and hotdog together, it was awesome. Hey, you can even get their Poutine a couple of different ways, including getting it with a hotdog wiener. You get what you pay for, and I have no problem shelling out for excellent food. And by the looks of how busy it was a lot of other people will pay for good, clean, well prepared food as well. If you want cheap prices, as the other reviewer recommends go to Burger King. You'll get what you pay for there too. Let yourself be the judge, give a try. But for sure get the fries. Their sweet potato fries are good too, but get their regular fries as well, I even ate them cold at home later and they were still really good.

I've been going to the North Star Drive-In since I was a kid coming home from school! Absolutely delicious every time. Their poutine has an excellent gravy and the fries were still crunchy, not to mention it had the perfect amount of cheese. The burger was also amazing, cooked to perfection!
Great everything. I get something different everytime and I've loved it all. I would call it a burger staple stop for Winnipeg. Don't skip on the fries or the shake either.

What a great burger! Plate licking good! We had a deluxe cheeseburger and a Weber. The deluxe cheeseburger reminded us of a more tasty and better quality Teen Burger. The Weber was a revelation. The peanut butter and jam were so much fun! The sriracha was a bit lost, but the bacon on both the burgers was great quality. Fries were decent but not a show stopper like the burgers. Burgers were not huge compared to others in the city. If I was hungry I would probably order 2. Can't wait to go back and try other burgers and the homemade veggie burger.
Fries taste sweet and of potatoes. Fat boy was well made with nice chili. Only complaint is that the fries, while well browned were a little soft/floppy for my tastes (I know some prefer them this way).
From ordering to ready, fresh cooked food was about 10 minutes. Well worth a stop, I will return when in the area.
I haven't eaten food from The North Star in over 10 years! I'm house sitting in the neighborhood and before I go back home I knew I had to order from here. Ordered through Skip. My order came fast, portions were huge and it tasted phenomenal!!!!! I ordered The Weber Combo with a poutine and mozza sticks on the side. Sooooo good. It'll be worth the 30 minute drive when I order again.
