Review Phuong Nam - Winnipeg

LG Go
My family's go-to to celebrate something :) best spring roll, deluxe fried rice and fried chicken in the city! I've had a lot fried rice in wpg and Phuong Nam got the best. It has a smokey taste we all really liked. Service was quick and helpful. Thank you always!

Outstanding and phenomenal food! My fiance and I have never had any issues with the food or the service. A friendly family owned restaurant with delicious eats. A definite must try. Dine in or take out you won't be disappointed with the food, the taste and the quality. I personally love #50 and if you want to know what that is, you will have to visit and order it! 😁 Sorry no photos this time - I will try to remember for next time to snap a few pics.😁

Our Soup came in with fresh caterpillar #31. They also just pour left over water from other peoples Water pitcher to the other nearly empty pitchers and just serve to the next customers.

We love the spring rolls, and the noodle bowls. Good amount of food for the price, and have never been disappointed. Nice fresh veggies. We always get take out.

I'm impressed, the flavors are on point, the portions are very fair for the price, they accommodated the spice to the way I love it. I enjoy very spicy food and they made it perfect. Very fast service was ready in 10 minutes fresh and friendly to meet me at the door. Go here!!

Great food for the price. Especially like dish #58. Wife likes Dish#54. Pho is excellent as well. Really like how clean the place is with pleasant service.

Love the fried rice here. Pho is good but not the greatest in the city. Fast service and food. Nice, quiet atmosphere. The honey dew drink (like a bubble tea without the bubbles) is so yummy.

This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant to eat at. Their dishes are well priced under $10 and the portion size is plenty. Good enough to fill you up or have left overs. My usual order is #54 vermicelli with charbroiled pork and spring rolls and I would drizzle the sweet Hoisin sauce over it. The service is great and wait time for the food is quick. I've tried other dishes on their menu and they're pretty good too. I prefer #54 because it has all the ingredients I want to satisfy my hunger. They used to be opened late past midnight. It's now just 11am to 11pm, closed Wednesday

Amazing food and service, they never disappoint.

Super friendly, never overly busy, great amounts of food for the price!! If you love noodles this is the place for ya!

If you want really really good soup you come to this place because I have not tasted anything so delicious anywhere else

Great, fast, service. Huge selection. Great phĂČ!

Always full when I leave. Look forward to going again. Food/Soups are super good.

Good restaurant in Winnipeg Manitoba.

Pho was alright, have had better in the city. Fried rice portion sucked. Salad rolls not the best.<br/><br/>Very slow with giving water, had to ask multiple times. This place used to have better food couple of years ago, portions also got smaller.<br/><br/>Service needs to step up!

Excellent, flavorful food.  If your in the mood for Vietnamese food I highly recommend Phuong Nam.  Can't wait for the next time.  Very friendly staff.

This place has the best Pho in town! If you like spicy pho, you should definately try #31 (Satay Pho). The staff are friendly and the place is clean. They also have great dessert such as bubble tea, Vietnamese Coffee and other Vietnamese desserts. I have been eating here for years now and I never get sick of this place. The beef in their pho is tender and full of flavor. Unlike other places that have chewy and kind of hard to chew beef. I find that Phuong Nam puts alot of beef brisket in their pho. <br/>Its worth the price you paid for. XL size pho can feed two people. I also tried their crispy chicken on rice, bahn mi and their salad rolls and everything tasted good. The only thing I don’t like about this place is that they used to be open until 3am (or 4am?). Other than that, I have no problems with this place. I recommended this restaurant to a few of my friends and now, they are regulars! If you’re going here for Pho, this place is for you. I strongly recommend to eat here.

This place is solid for Vietnamese food.  With so much competition in the area, Phuong Nam really stands out in a few areas (1) space, probably one of the bigger vietnamese dining rooms in town (2) value / price can't be beat (3) Food quality and taste - everything is fresh, tasty, and colourful. <br/>Service is efficient, although the place can get really busy at times.

Came for a Friday lunch with colleagues as I was craving Bun (vermicelli)... It had been a few weeks since my last bowl of Vietnamese soup and wasn't sure if I wanted vermicelli in a salad or in a soup. After some serious deliberation I got the soup and one of my colleagues got the salad version. <br/><br/>Phuong Nam is run like a well oiled machine. You come in, they tell you to sit where you want and come and take your order pretty quick. We pretty much got our food around the 10 minute mark.<br/><br/>Food was flavourful and well portioned. One interesting thing is that unlike other places, their Bun Bo Hue has the bean sprouts already put into the bowl of soup. Not sure I like that, but it did seem to cook the sprouts and basil a little more.<br/><br/>This place is solid, though there is plenty of competition in the area. If you're looking for a solid place to try, you can't go wrong here.<br/><br/>

Have been going there for about 5 years now it's always been good food at great prices with good portions. The food is still good, however in last year or so it became a little less tasty..new cook maybe.<br/>Still would reccomend that place though

Went here for lunch. I'll start off with that I was extremely impressed with the speed of service, despite being very busy. The price and service sizes seemed like very good value, and the flavor and toppings were very good. Someone I was dining with had some dietary restrictions, which they accommodated very well. My only complaints is the restaurant is pretty grossly dirty, and I am used to going to pretty filthy restaurants (especially Asian ones) and ignoring the filth, but there seemed to be food splashed up on the walls that had been there for many months (as there was a thick layer of dust over it). I also was initially sat at a larger table (a table meant for 6-8 people for two people) and was even given my drink order and menus, but when the server came to take my order, we were asked to move to a small table that cleared up; which I guess makes sense but I have never been asked to move after getting menus and drinks. If it were not for the filth and being asked to move I would have rated this place 4.5 maybe even a 5.

The service is definitely lacking here but the food is worth the wait.  Everything I've tried is fresh and full of flavours.  I just don't come here if I'm in a hurry whatsoever!

This is my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in town. The service is quick and the food is good. It's an added bonus that the food comes in great portion and is priced reasonably. In addition, the restaurant opens till late, which makes for a great place for late night dinner. <br/><br/>My family and I come here all the time and we were never once disappointed with the service or food. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for Vietnamese cuisine!

This place used* to be my favourite Vietnamese resto and now it's just weird. Promptly you are seated, your order is taken and served but serving staff are absent and don't follow up with you at all. The older staff can be found having loud conversations amongst themselves at the front of the house which was very distracting. It felt as if I was at a nail salon getting a manicure or at a family party where the aunties are gossiping. Basically not the experience expected to have at a restaurant. As for the food, they have delicious pho - I will give them that. Their pork/shrimp salad rolls are pre-made and kept in the fridge, leaving them super hard and not enjoyable to eat. If you haven't already, please visit Pho Winnipeg beside Lipstixx down the street. The service is amazing and so is the food. Apparently you can get into the club from the restaurant without paying cover? Not sure. Just do yourself this favour. Thanks

We are officially on our 4th day of the new year celebrations, and after a long week of work, it was finally time to celebrate. I debated between rounding everyone up for a formal sit down dinner, or the more interactive experience that is Chinese fondue. After a 60 hour work week, the option that needed less prep work was the obvious choice, and so hot pot it was.
The Humble Foody
Was in the mood for a nice warm bowl of Vietnamese soup so decided to try this little gem of a restaurant. Me and my better half went in the afternoon around 230 pm and found there to be plenty of parking in the back. The place was almost half full and looked clean. We were seated right away and provided with water and menus. The aroma was amazing coming from the kitchen and other patrons could be seen slurping bowls of noodle soup. Our waitress was polite and quick so I ordered the beef pho and my wife ordered the vermicelli bowl along with a order of spring rolls. Within minutes a waiter came and brought a plate with sprouts, Vietnamese basil, lime wedge, and a chilli. I ordered the large soup for $ 8.75 and it was huge (probably should have ordered the medium). The aroma was incredible as was the taste of the broth. Tons of beef and noodles and the meatballs were great. I started by not adding anything to the soup cause the broth was so good but later threw in garlic chilli sauce which brought on a good sweat. Overall the dish was delicious and would definitely order it again. My wife's vermicelli bowl was loaded with noodles, vegetables, spring rolls, charred pork, and came with the usual sauce you pour over the dish. This was her first time trying it and she loved it. The spring rolls were also delicious and a little different from any others I had ever tried but in a good way.<br/>Overall this was a great experience and we both can't wait to go back.<br/>Would highly recommend it to fellow pho eaters

Excellent PhĂ” here! The second best PhĂ” restaurant in Winnipeg in my opinion. Broth is slightly salty but still very good quality. Portion sizes are tremendous! Spring rolls are 3.5/5. Meat is great quality. Open late (11pm) most nights which is nice. Service can be a tad slow when it's busy but that's understandable as restaurant can fit a lot of customers!

Soup taste great but ive got obe with some sort of plastic in it. They replace the soup theb act like nothing happend. Gross! No one wants to talk to me about it after.

If you are in the area and are craving Vietnamese then this is your spot... lots of parking (can be packed for lunch and dinnertime hours)... staff r nice... inside is recently renovated I believe... there have been a few times when the glassware still had water stains so I usually have to wipe it down... as for the eats... salad rolls are always on point... spring rolls are good because they are distinct from any other Vietnamese spring rolls that I've had... there pho dac biet is consistently good with a good proportion of noodles and meat... bun Bo hue has been my go to the past year tho as the flavor and spiciness is on point.. I usually exchange the noodles that come with their bun Bo hue with rice noodles which comes with their pho dac biet.... overall consistent Vietnamese restaurant... if you are hungover I highly recommend their soups as a cure... but there food is also good sober lol... this is my go to when I'm in the area for Vietnamese.

One of the good places to go to for vietnamese. Service was a little bellow average, and food took a little long to come out but it was good. One thing I will say, is I wish they would fill the dishes more. There would be an awkward empty space in most dishes making it look like someone had already taken food from the plate. Otherwise everything was tasty.
Hail Mary
Poor service, everyone working there is obnoxious and not to mention lazy! <br/>The people who work there never seem to give a damn about the customer. I asked for water multiple times and they would just look at me dead in the eye and walk away! This place needs to step up their customer service.<br/><br/>Food was alright, portions are pretty small (especially the fried rice).  Felt like they ripped me off from the ridiculous portions they gave. <br/><br/>On top of that, they did not even bother to apologize when i spoke to either of them. Extremely disappointing experience.
Joey Hunter
Incredibly Lazy Customer Service.<br/><br/>I asked kindly for no green onions and cilantro (ESPECIALLY CILANTRO), because I absolutely despise the taste of these ingredients and it ruins Pho for me. However my request (which my waitress seemed to have written down?), fell on deaf ears because my Pho still came with these ingredients. Now I'm not sure if there's a language barrier within the restaurant, but if there is, the waitress should address the chefs PERSONALLY for special requests. What's even more disappointing, I paid for my friends as well. So I paid close to $50 worth of food, and I did not even enjoy my own meal. Perhaps I should suggest I'm actually allergic to these ingredients? Maybe then I'll get the soup properly prepared.

"It has been 8 years..."<br/><br/>Since my last visit eight years ago, place hasn't changed much aside from the interior and exterior renovations, massive TV on both ends and of course, menu prices are almost the same.<br/><br/>I had: Vermicelli bowl filled with charbroiled beef, vietnamese spring rolls and julienned vegetables. At $7.75, this massive bowl is worth every penny, from its flavour quality and quantity. A great combination for a menu item. The beef was tender and charbroiled to perfection, with the sides a little toasted and middle remaining tender and flavourful. The lemon grass flavour stood out from the meat marinade. Also had the Vietnamese Salad Rolls - vegetables were fresh and made to order. Sauce was balanced with sweet and salty tones. To drink I had the Vietnamese iced cold coffee with condensed milk. The coffee packed a punch - strong and sweet.<br/><br/>I will return but won't wait another eight years!<br/><br/>

Their deluxe vermicelli is soo good. This is a place where you can go and you know you will get an affordable, tasty, and quick meal. Hubs likes their vermicelli and its a good time.

My favourite place to get pho soup and much more. Very yummy , excellent staff working, the place is always packed. The price is right.

Excellent value and quick service. Portions are bigger than average. I've been here during the day and on late nights, the place is always packed. Rare Beef and Beef Brisket Pho all the way!
Kiki
Good food & value for money! The deluxe vermicelli bowl is delicious! We were there until almost 10:30pm and the place was still packed with people!

Finally tried this restaurant today! Service was fast. Ordered the Vietnamese Beef Stew Egg Noodle soup and it was great. The broth was really flavourful. Also tried their Ca Phe Sua Da (Vietnamese Iced Coffee) and it didn't disappoint. I would definitely come back and try their other dishes.<br/><br/>=======<br/><br/>Finally tried their Pho and it's probably the best Pho I've ever had in the city.

This is my go to place for Pho in Winnipeg! I've taken about 30 family and friends here who haven't ever tried Pho and they love it and continue to go back to this place! The #27 beef pho is the best in my eyes the chicken pho #32 I believe is also very very good. Service isn't bad but I mostly go there for the amazing food!
Tayger
Hands down my favorite Vietnamese spot in town. This place is essentially the default restaurant when we cannot decide or come to an agreement on where we want to eat out.<br/><br/>Usual go-to's are the Deluxe Pho, Salad Rolls, Deluxe Chow Main (dry) and who can forget their great selection of Banh Mi. I always have one with my meal and get another for lunch the next day. <br/><br/>Highly recommended.
Grosh
Been going here for probably 7-8 years. #50 is the best. Best Vietnamese food in the city - they must have a secret vermicelli recipe! Great that this place is also open quite late.
RMDiv
Service is a bit slow compared to other Asian restaurants. Prepare to wait for at least 40 mins.<br/>The food that I ordered was pleasant. I had the crispy special chow mein, sizzling hot satay beef, and pork and shrimp sunmer rolls. The chow mein is good, the seafood was cooked just right. The satay beef, it doesn't taste like satay. I'll go probably go back to try the Pho. They look good in the pictures.

WORST SERVICE EVER!. So I go there and got their #79 "Beef Lemon grass with rice", I get my food and it was soo spicy I couldn't even take another bite, WHICH does NOT say on the menu that it's spicy (at least in English). I then wave the server to come over and tell them that I did not expect my food to be so spicy it is not even edible.. I then wanted to get something else and asked for the menu. The server did not bother listening to me and went back to the kitchen to make the same food that I don't even want. I then ask the other server what just happened and if I could please have the menu and this guy says "but they're already making it". I explained to him that it was not my fault because I clearly and repeatedly said it that I want something else. This guy then continued to tell me that they're already making it refusing to give me the menu. <br/><br/>They then give me the food And expected me to just be okay with it and just eat it. I did not touch that food at all, went to the cashier and told the 2nd guy which I think is the owner that I will pay for everything else but not the one they forced me into getting. <br/><br/>Basically, this guy refused to give me the menu, forced me to get what they wanted me to get because they've already started making it, and then makes me pay for it not caring about what I wanted and my concerns at all. <br/><br/>What money hoggers.<br/><br/>WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!!! Never ever going back there..
Yolanda
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I ordered a Pho for pick up, and everything was just totally wrong. I clearly asked for "No beef balls" and he apparently heard "Beef sprout" like is there such thing.. I also wanted a regular pho, but they gave me a spicy one instead. I called them to replace it but instead of getting a firm "Yes" and "Sorry about what happened, I shouldve doubled check it with you" We got into a long argument about having to replace it and what not. <br/>Its a misunderstanding that brought out all the rudeness of the staff. I've work at different restaurants and we were bombarded with the principle of "the customer is always right" which they should be practicing everytime. <br/>I used to love this place because of the convenient hours that they have, but with that kind of service... I'd rather go to Mamas or ViAnnes or that Pho restau by sargent and ellice. Clearly, he cares about loosing money than loosing his customers.
Lylelink
Bad all around. We went for lunch because I'd heard so many good things about the place, and I love Pho! I don't know what happened, but it was the absolute worst service ever!!!! We were completely ignored by the wait staff. We waited about 25 minutes and finally flagged down a staff member to give them our order. The food was soooooo bad, none of us ate our food. We waited for the bill that never came, so we just went up to the front to pay finally. I almost felt a hostile vibe from the staff there. I wouldn't bother to go back again. I think the regulars who eat there really love it, they must know something that we missed?

Will be back and back and back!. Best Vietnamese place that I've been to â˜ș My boyfriend and I have been going here for so long and has become our go-to. We usually call and pick up the food (takes 15-20 mins) after work or on our way to each other's house. When we eat there, the service is really good and the wait time to get our food is faster than average. We always get the deluxe vermicelli #50 (no peanuts as I am allergic) and fried chicken on rice #69 (with extra fish sauce for $0.25), and if we're feeling rich (as we are students on student budgets ;p) we also get chow mein. The prices too are very cheap considering their food is delicious. â˜ș

One of my favorites for Pho and Vietnamese cuisine. When I think about having a good bowl of Pho I generally think of this place. Great food, atmosphere and service! They have a large flat screen at the back in-case you want to watch the game and are also open late on Sundays. Its usually pretty bumping since not much else is open on Sunday. Took my ma there for lunch one day and was really excited being her first time. Ended up getting a bunch of items, all very tasty and ended up having lots for meals the next day. They make the best avocado shake and I get it every time but I ended up writing the wrong number beside it; which they told me was the lemon shake. Silly me I left it as it was and didn't want to make a big deal of it 'cause it really was my own fault for not checking properly. The lemon was really good too and fortunate for me as I love lemon any way. My server ended up making the avocado shake and gave it to me on the house. I've worked in the hospitality industry for as long as I can remember; both hotel and restaurant. It was really nice being on the opposite end and having someone exceed my experience, that small gesture made all the difference in my eyes and I truly appreciated it. I will still keep going back and recommending it to friends, family and guests' at work.

Love the pho, shakes and bĂĄnh m. Best pho in the city - taste just like pho that I've had in Vietnam. My favorite items are the rare beef pho, the coconut shake and the charbroiled pork bĂĄnh mĂŹ. Great food, fast service and awesome prices. I can get 2 shakes, a bĂĄnh mĂŹ and a medium pho for $20 - enough food for two people to be very full!

My first time was KILLER!. Well, actually my second. I had Vietnamese food once before- years ago. But this was my first time at Phoung Nam.<br/><br/>One of the challenging things with Vietnamese food is knowing what to order. The menu is usually 3 meters long and typically short on descriptors. Im not well versed, so this time, I picked a flavor I liked and hoped for the best. Wicked results. Just awesome.<br/><br/>I had the curry chicken vermicelli. That's all it said in the menu too. However, the demi-globe sized bowl that came out was full of noodles, about 6 full piece of tender curried chicken, tons of veggies and a bright, aromatic broth that was thick and rich with tons of exciting curry and viet flavours. It was exactly what I was hoping for and I loved it. My only critical observation was that it was not very spicy. Wasn't advertised as such, however, I think next time Ill ask for an extra smack in the head. They didn't offer a heat scale, so not sure if the temper to taste.<br/><br/>Im goin back for sure- I hope I can pick another winner dish like this one was. <br/><br/>Pho stars out of five. Lol. I kill me.
Lunch Guy
BEST WINNIPEG PHO-trust me I know, eaten at them all. Don't waste your time at any other pho restaurant, this is the best one. Best pho soupy, #25 and best pork vermicelli #50. I repeat BEST pho in Winnipeg.
Derrick Marco
Late night jaunt. I was excited to try this place because I have heard good things, and they were true. This joint has really fast service, delicious Asian food, and of reasonable pricing.<br/>Unlike Mama Noodle House, this place has a restaurant set up, not a cafeteria with no heat.
Sade
BEST PHO PLACE!! If you want some good Pho you need to go here. Its amazing and comes very very quickly!
Matt T
Favourite pho place to go to. Fast service. Really good pho. Always open when we want to go. Typical Asian service. (I'm Asian myself so I'm not being offensive haha) I probably go here once every 1-2 weeks!
Cin
Second Choice. We went here on Friday night, after being at Pho No. 1 on Thursday night. This place doesn't compare. The service was very good, the speed of its arrival very good, but the food just isn't as good. There is less selection in the soup department and the food isn't fresh-tasting. I had the asparagus and crab soup. It was a huge mass of what tasted like canned asparagus, canned crab and some starch-thickened broth. Very bland. We also shared the shrimp wrapped on sugar-cane wraps. Lots of fresh basil and veggies, but the shrimp itself was a bit skimpy and not as nice as that at Pho No. 1 or Viva (probably the best place for this dish)

Top Choice for Vietnamese in Winnnipeg. The interior decor is plain, the service is straightforward, but the food is top notch. Tried this place on a whim a few weeks ago and keep coming back for more. I especially like their hot and sour soup and sizzling dishes. With over 200 menus items it's hard to make up your mind. Upon arrival, you can basically sit where you like and write down your order on a slip. I'm guessing this is to ensure accuracy because it appears most of their employees don't speak English. Each table receives a pitcher of water. Once you order, your food is usually ready in 10 min or less. I actually don't mind this type of no-nonsense service where the focus is all on the food.

3 out of the 4 spoons at our table were dirty. Also as we walked out the Manager / Owner accused my mom by saying her "other daughter ordered takeout, picked it up and left without paying for it". My mom told her she must have the wrong person (because I'm her only daughter) but this person insisted the thief was my mom's daughter. We thought she was losing her mind as she was getting loud and embarrassing is in front of other customers. Just for that I will NEVER eat there again nor will I ever refer this restaurant to anyone.
Tannis Rentz
Terrible service. There is nothing special here, in fact there are better Vietnamese places around the area with better prices, service, and food. Won't go back.
Kim J
I normally like this restaurant but had a horrible experience there today. My friend ordered a soup and it tasted very much like it had seafood in it. My friend does not like seafood so we tried to return the dish (as this menu item did not specify seafood in it). The waitress first told us that we would still have to pay for the soup regardless if we liked it or not but then said if we chose another soup that she would not charge us. We thought that was fair and ordered another soup which was delicious. But when we went up to pay instead of not charging us she decided to give us a "discount" and charge us $5.00 instead of the regular price. We told her that she was very clear she was not going to charge us and that we wouldn't have ordered another soup otherwise. The waitress was unwilling to compromise and in the end we ended up paying our bill and told them we would not be back. Lesson learned: stick to your favorites at this restaurant or prepare to be charged even of you don't like it.

It's okay.. Tried the pho here because everyone raves that it's the best in the city. Nope, it was not good at all. Maybe I'm being harsh since I have tried amazing pho from other cities but meh. It's not as good as people say. Also tried their vietnamese subs. Bread is a little try and there's not enough meat. Their che ba mau (dessert) on the other hand is worth trying! Very good although I wish they weren't so cheap on the beans and used a bit less shaved ice. <br/><br/>I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.
Hungry Guy
Ordered a large pho and finished it. Ordered a second smaller one and I got it literally in 1 min, after they took my large bowl. The broth was obviously from my previous bowl so it wasn't hot enough to cook the beef.
C.Chantel
Best pho broth; fresh and authentic!
RowYourBoat
My first stab at Vietnamese cuisine was from here. Loved it then, and still lovin' it now!
Michael Lu
Alright. No really the best.. If you actually taste Vietnamese Authentic Pho then Phuong Nam is nothing. Pho shouldnt be made by buying store bought pre-made broth. Its suppose to be freshly made. Some of the dishes are good but I once had to wait an hour and a half for my food! There was only around 5 customers there. Also their coconut shakes are horrible.
Mr. Polar Bear
Best Pho in Town!. Only place in Winnipeg we go for Rare Beef Pho, large portion; great taste and reasonable price!
FTW
GREAT PLACE. First time diner with a foursome. Really great food. Best Hot n Sour soup in The Peg. Definitely going back even though its far from home. As good as it was, some portions were on the smaller side and not inexpensive. $92.00 for 4 incl 4 beers.
Jb
Absolutely delicious! Broth was extremely flavorful..this was a medium size bowl..very filling.
SpiceLife
Above Average. Good pho....<br/><br/>The meat here tastes really gamey. Like they dont wash it or something...

Very very good veitnamese food!!!

Ate until I burst. The pho is awesome, and every single bit of it was so delicious that although I was bursting at the seams from the huge portion given to me, I was still trying to eat more. Too good to go to waste!<br/><br/>You HAVE to try the Vietnamese coffee (#187) if you've never tried it before. With ice, it's an awesome summer drink. Without the ice, it's as sweet as candy with the condensed milk.<br/><br/>You also definitely have to try #50 (Bun Thap Cam) because it's huge, delicious, and filled with lots of things that will make you a very happy patron, believe me. Well worth the value.<br/><br/>The service was a little quick and made no eye contact. Serve and run away, serve and move to the next table. Since you fill out your own order sheet, you don't even need to open your mouth and neither do they. Can't blame them for being quick though because the place was packed and it was a very late lunch.<br/><br/>Decor was hilariously tacky. Ornaments from just about every culture adorn the walls and shelves of this place. Top that with a huge mural on the wall of a ship, and you have Phuong Nam. Very interesting to say the least.
David Arjoon
I found these owners on salter ave running a tiny dumpy 30 seat place in 1996 . The food was amazing then and it's still the same.

Best pho in Winnipeg. Best shakes too!
Brittaney Marion
PHO-EE. My boyfriend and I went here for lunch and were extremely disappointed. I have had Pho many times from another restaurant (and loved it) but the Pho here was terrible. It had no taste these weird tasting meatballs and tripe neither of which were listed under it's description. The Pho that I have been accustomed to is spicy and wonderfully flavorful not a bland bowl of strange tasting broth. I couldn't even bring myself to get more than 2 spoonfuls down even after I picked out the stomach (tripe).
Mojo
Reply to Brittaney Marion. LMAO - Pho is not a spicy dish unless you add the sauce yourself. What you are probably thinking about is Bun Bo Hue.<br/><br/><br/>-----09 Mar, 2012-----<br/><br/>THE place for any noodle soup. My favorite is # 34 but i think ALL of their soups are great!<br/>i think it's THE best place for any kinda of Vietnamese noodle soup. it's their broth and fresh veggies... the only other things i'd order would be the make your own salad rolls... other than that, not much else stands out to me.
YummyInMyTummy
Excellent Flavours. Honestly, I've been to plenty of Vietnamese restaurants but this has been the best pho I've had by far. Their broth is so flavourful and the soup itself has such a generous portion of meat in it. I was so full after ordering a Medium (7.25)!! their medium sized phos are pretty large, probably the same size as ifyou were to get a large on other pho places.<br/>Anyway give it a try. Highly recommended. Just don't expect a superb service because you gotta know 2 things: you have to seat yourselves (fine by me) and write you own order with a pen and order sheet). Also, a jug of water is already given to you, so basically you are pretty independent. I actually appreciate it this way..<br/>Most of the items on the menu are the pretty standard $9.50 so it is very affordable. I usually order pho when coming here so I can't say much about their main dishes.<br/>I did have a side note though.. A couple that was sitting behind us was brought the wrong order (which was supposed to go to us). So they may get mixed orders at times but bare with it, their food is awesome!<br/>Two thumbs up!!

AWFUL.... I went for a visit with my husband on tuesday night, and believe me. Its going to be our last. Service was terrible, no one came to bring us menus, had to ask for water, and it was an hour wait for the food, and it wasn't even busy. and to top it off, the dishes were dirty and poorly washed, if at all. NEVER COMING BACK AGAIN!!!!

The BEST Spring Rolls!. I LOVE this restaurant!! It serves up some DELICIOUS food! My husband loves the Pho. I ordered the BBQ Pork bowl - came with noodles, a little salad, delicious BBQ pork, and chopped up spring rolls. We also ordered extra side of spring rolls as they are THE best. Wow. So good. I highly recommend going here for lunch or dinner. Everything is good, fresh, and comes out super fast.

Makes me wish I lived on WIlliam Ave.. This restaurant has great food, great service, and great prices.<br/><br/>I've been there a number of times with a variety of people on different occassions (e.g., co-workers, bosses, friends [some of them chefs], family, etc.). All of them, although very different from each other in terms of expectations and experiences, have raved about the complex and soothing flavour in the soups and the freshness of the vermecelli bowls and salad rolls.<br/><br/>This place is definitely a star on the Winnipeg restaurant scene.

Terrible. I do not like the food here at all. For someone who does not eat beef and pork, there are only a few menu items to choose from. What there is is incredibly greasy and unappetizing. Poor service too.

One of my absolute favourites!. I ALWAYS come here because for the most part, the food is consistently good. And as I've learned, it's authentic Vietnamese food. There isn't anything that I've ordered that I didn't like! I've ordered things by mistake, but nothing has disappointed me.<br/><br/>It can get really busy, but the food always comes out pretty quickly. You pretty much seat yourself, and you also order things yourself, but that's not a big problem. You have to pay up at the front too, which also isn't a huge problem.<br/><br/>EDIT: I forgot to mention that one time, I called to order takeout.. I thought they were closing an hour after I called, but when I called, the person on the phone told me they were closing in 15min. Naturaly, I didn't want to place an order anymore, but the person on the phone insisted that I can still place an order. It was literally a two minute argument about placing an order, lol. But I ordered, and no hassle whatsoever! I will alwaaaaays go back! Great food!

A little mom n pop place. First let me say that before you go, note, there is NO service. At least not in the sense that you would be used to. If you don't mind that, then go ahead. It's actually almost nicer without.<br/>I have been here twice and on my first experience Ioved my meal and adored their lemon shake! What a new and cool idea. I took my husband along the second time and we both got different things than I'd had last time. Both were tasty esp the black bean sauce. Mmm that's delicious! <br/>My only complaint is their chicken... I don't know how they cook it but I will never ever order a chicken plate from them again. The texture is just weird and I was uncomfortable eating it. We had their spring rolls which I really enjoyed with their fish sauce however my husband wasn't much for the rolls so he got their 'peanut sauce' which I found tasted nothing at all like peanut sauce and won't try that again.<br/>Other than that small detail, I had another type of shake, orange this time, and again loved it. It tasted just like a creamsicle! <br/>I doubt this will ever be my no1 place to go but I certainly plan on stopping by for shake to go!

Let me preface this review by stating that I am Vietnamese. With that said, I am happy to say that this restaurant will provide with you authentic Vietnamese food for cheap. My only gripe is the service how we have to seat ourselves, write down our own orders, and get up to the front to pay the bills. However, the lack of service makes sense for the cheap prices so it's a sacrifice. Another vietnamese place I would recommend is Nhu Quynh on Ellice.

The food is great I've yet to have a bad order. I've been coming here for 4-5 years. Service ranges, sometimes it's good, okay, and not so good. The place gets so busy sometimes so you have to be patient. But food is worth it.

The service is very poor. I find the younger staff to be a bit more helpful so it's best to dine in the evenings when they are working. Food is good, try the pho, deep fried crispy deluxe noodles and BBQ vermicelli. One major pet peeve about this place is when the staff stand right infront of your table ( not even joking) to clear it off when you're barely done. This seems to be an issue with one staff member in particular. To end on a positive note, this place has the best salad rolls.

Terrific! A well known and popular place. Super selection and delicious!

Best Vietnamese restaurant in Winnipeg. I like their Vietnamese iced coffees the best. My favourite dishes are the vermicelli bowl, 7 colours on broken rice, pho, beef strew, the salad rolls you put together yourself, and of course the spring rolls and Vietnamese sandwiches. I like that they have those fruit shakes and it's so inexpensive. Why go to fast food places with gross greasy not-even-real food when you can have the best Vietnamese food in Winnipeg at the same price! I've been going here since I was little when they first opened up on Isabel. If you haven't tried it yet, you have to try the 7 colours on broken rice. I love the little egg cake thing it comes with.

Terrific! Huge menu, super food, prices are great - 5 for lunch today for $45!!! Best in Winnipeg so far :-)

Amazing. Best bun (vermicelli) in the city. Charbroiled pork was sensational, great proportions of noodles to veg, correct temperature, and good amount of food. <br/><br/>Price is fairly standard, $7.50-$9.50 for a meal.<br/><br/>If only it wasn't so far away, hopefully they open another in the village. <br/>Again, amazing. If you like vietnamese, you owe it to yourself try this place.

Great! But... Such great food here, but it is more expensive (for vietnamese) and so crowded. Perhaps too popular for its own good? I usually choose one of the lesser known but equally delicious (and cheaper) vietnamese restaurant

Lovely vietnamese food. Another one of my fav Vietnamese spots! I love the pho here! The "pho tai" (#27 on the menu) is rare beef that's cooked in the hot soup filled with thin rice noodles.<br/><br/>I love the "Banh Hoi Thit Heo Nuong" (#13) which is charbroiled pork served with rice paper, vermicelli noodles, and fresh vegetables. The pork has great flavour; the same pork is used in the rice vermicelli dish such as #50 and #52 on the menu. The rice vermicelli bowls are a great alternative if you don't want to wrap your own rice paper roll.<br/><br/>The ice coffee (#187) here is strong and deliciously balanced with the condensed milk.<br/><br/>The downside to this place is that service can be a tad slow even when the place isn't busy. This place gets very busy at lunch, especially on Fridays; once I had to wait over an hour with a group before we received our food.

Best Pho in Winnipeg. For a dish that is as ubiquitous as Pho, Phuong Nam's versions of it are absolutely delicious and head and shoulders above the competition. Most people will be satisfied with a medium sized portion, but if you want a large bowl, it's not that much more expensive, usually only 50 to 75 cents more. The vermicelli bowls are also excellent. If you're in the mood for a good bowl of pho, you need to roll to Phuong Nam.

Mmmmm !!. Best pho in town. The best is the beef satay, rare slices of beef, tripe, rice noodles, basil, been sprouts, sausage, and of course a rich broth....mmmmmm!!! Cant forget the shrimp and pork rice rolls, the bomb for sure. Very cheap and filling, perfect for a cold winter day.

Phuong Nam, is winnipegs BEST vietnamese restaurant. Their prices are great, their portions are considerate, and their flavor is incomparable. I drive across the city just to enjoy their amazing vermacelli bowl and would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great asian food. They have ample parking and is located a short 20min walk from HSC hospital. Their service is minimal but timely. Foods arrives hot and fast and ALWAYS taste great. Their flavor are exciting and fresh and there is something for everyone. Strongly recommend you try it ... You'll be back.

Overall Phuong Nam offers a solid bowl of Vietnamese soup. The marker of the best Vietnamese restaurants are the broth and one can taste the hours that went into making the wonderful broth that becomes the base for all their soups. While their stir fry dish was disappointing, it does little to take away from their noodle soups and becomes one of my first recommendations for good Vietnamese in the HSC vicinity.
