North of city needs more love, these guys are straight slayin' it here.
Food is full of flavor, unexpected exotics tastes that will make you go MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM without a doubt.
I highly recommend getting either their pork belly hash, chicken & waffles and don't forget their new pork belly burger. They're especially known for their ice cream, handmade, homemade, ice cream flavors that you cannot simply get enough of.
Overall experience, 5/5. friendly staff & awesome food & for me it's close to home.
Fantastic service, every time I have come here, I've never been disappointed. The food is amazing, they have the best eggs benedict ever made. I've tried tons of egg benedicts from different restaurants, and nobody can beat creme del essence's. Such a great place with excellent food and pleasant service and kitchen staff!
The food is to die for!!! They have the best eggs benny I've ever had in my life. The black garlic alfredo was also amazing. This is definitely my new favourite place. Love it . I have been recommending this place to all my friends.
I've been to Creme deL'Essence several times and I'm already planning my next visit. Every dish has been delicious and while also offering lots of originality. I can't say enough good things about the Chicken and Waffles, they are spectacular. The service is excellent and everything is reasonably priced. I recommend this restaurant to everyone I know.
We had the pork belly tacos, carbonara and chicken and waffles tonight. It was so good, I would eat this combination from this establishment for the rest of my life.
This is a great place! The food is fabulous! The service is good, and the staff, genuinely friendly.
My friend and I went to Creme DeL'Essence today for a late brunch. (Note that although they are open 6 days a week, their Friday and Saturday hours are 11-2 and 5-9.)
The restaurant is housed in an unassuming building, with a casual decor, but don't let that fool you. The food is top notch! It is delicious and beautifully presented. The prices are reasonable.
I had the Eggs Benny ($12). I chose spinach instead of ham or bacon, and potatoes instead of salad. The eggs were poached perfectly! The sauce was tasty, and just enough. The potato pieces were hot at the table, and lightly seasoned. They were delicious!
I would rate my meal as one of the best Eggs Bennys I've had in the city.
My friend had the popular Chicken and Waffles ($14); an artistically arranged plate of fluffy waffles topped with crispy chicken. It came with a black garlic glaze that she quite liked. Every morsel was savored! She also mentioned that they made a good cup of coffee.
There are also a few vegetarian and gluten-free choices on the menu.
Creme DeL'Essence is the place to go for a memorable meal. We look forward to going back.
Check it out. You will not be disappointed.
Give these guys a chance because this place has amazing food! We were in the area yesterday and took a chance on a recommendation. Its a weird looking strip mall so don't leave when you see it. As soon as we arrived, we were served lemon water. The menu is unique and everything sounds delicious. We just couldn't decide what to have. In the end we decided on eggs benni and spinach and the burger with mushroom sauce. The eggs were done to perfection and the burger was so great....loaded with bacon and a unique mushroom sauce. It rates as one of the best burgers i have ever had. The restaurant is owned by two fellows. One is the chef, the other is personality behind the operation. He is so personable and professional. The decorating is a little lacking but if you want really amazing food and a good portion size go here! I don't live in the area, but i would definitely come back just for the food and because the owner was so nice.
A hidden gem in the Tyndall area. This is a good place to go for Filipino-inspired dishes. Their Pork Belly rice bowl is really good. Try it with Garlic Rice. Also, for a unique dessert, try their Creme Brûlée with Purple Yam. It's on the pricier side and their $15-20 dishes are for just one person, but they're made with the freshest ingredients so I can't complain.
I have eaten here a few times now and have been thoroughly impressed with the food every time. I would describe the food as elevated brunch fare, so don't go expecting a diner breakfast. They have a smaller menu but I have not had a bad meal yet. The chicken and waffles is the best I've ever had, a great balance of sweet and savoury. Their poutine, though different than a classic poutine, was great, and the eggs benedict was also delicious. The decor and atmosphere is clean and simple, not spectacular, but not bad. The restaurant seems lightly staffed; however I have not had a bad experience service-wise yet. I also noticed last time I was there that they have a decent sized selection of gluten free options which our labeled on their menu, decent being more options than your average restaurant, especially for the size of their menu. Would highly recommend!
I wish more people try this place it out because the food is amazing specially the pork belly and the fries. I go here at least once a month.
Love everything we have tried on their menu thus far! We live by Polo Park but do travel the distance when we crave Creme Del 'Essence. I highly recommend their eggs benedict for breakfast, or their Chicken poutine. But their Pork Belly burger is my ultimate fave.
Terrific menu. Had the chicken and waffles which was superb. Their offering for le burger week was a killer. Friendly service, will definitely go back.
When in Winnipeg this place is a must. They treat you like family and one thing for sure is they dont lack flavor. Flavors well balanced and like no other. These guys got heart. Check them out and support real talent.
Food loving the pork and hash. Even add some foie gras. Oh And that pasta ! Dessert you cant go wrong. Ice cream, sticky toffee, creme brulee. Leaves u wanting more... So much to say... Haha but give it a go and see for yourself. ! Wont be disappointed.
Our go-to for that pork belly hash! I seriously think they don't get enough credit for their food. Even the way they make their hasbrowns is such a task in itself. They really take a lot of care in their food! Keep up the great work!
This place is amazing! By far the best breakfast place in Winnipeg! The portions and services is great! Don't let the decor throw you off...The pork belly hash and chicken and waffles are too die for! Go check it out!...u will not be disappointed!
I had the waffle with duck confit and it was spectacular. The food is amazing the potion size is medium and they service is outstanding. The server was really helpful, knowledgable and friendly. I would really recommend this place.
(We tried this place for the first time this evening and I had to created an account just so I could post this) 3.2/5.0 Zomato rating, really? We try one new place per week (date night) and this is easily my favorite of all of 2016. The space isn't all that special (it's not bad or anything) but the care/love/effort that goes into the food definately more than makes up for it. The food here is what places like Blind Tiger, Sous Sol, etc *should* be.
Food here is great. I suggest y'all try it. I love the fries and the desserts. I'm always craving their fries and main courses. They just have this unique flare to them which makes them pretty memorable to my taste buds.
When here through a recommendation and glad I did. I had the pork belly hash and it has me wanting to come back. WOW, this dish was packed with a punch of flavour that blended perfectly, although a touch salty as I was forewarned. The egg and hollandaise sauce was perfect with the crispy seasoned potatoes, fresh green onion and fabulous pork belly fried to perfect combination of crisp and tenderness. See my pics and try not to drool. My friend who had been there 4 or 5 times prior had the chicken poutine for something new off their menu and was pretty happy as well. Prices were good based on the portion, flavour and quality of the meal received. I will be back to try more!!! Service was a little slow but it was mid afternoon and fairly busy which was a good sign. I recommend giving this little cafe a serious try... I am pretty sure they won't let you down. Good job creme de l'essence!
One of my faves in the city. Chef Urbano and Ryan are doing amazing things with their French inspired menu! The pork belly has is an obvious customer favourite. Was recently there for dinner and had Torchon De Foi Gras, pomegranate glazed duck, and roasted carrots that was probably the most delicious vegetable side I've had in this city so far.
My boyfriend and I went here for lunch/dinner and we enjoyed our food. I ordered the gnocchi and a dessert.. and he ordered the chicken and waffles. The presentation was really good. And the dessert was like orgasm in my mouth lol People should come and eat here sometime :)
Finally checked this place out today, I've been so looking forward to it! The decor was what I expected based on other reviews, small, not fancy but clean. The service was OK but should have been friendlier for a small neighbourhood place. The food was great, I decided to try the confit duck poutine and it was so full of great flavours. I will be back to try some of the other delicious looking items.
November 2017 - The Swizzle Styx dined here last week and everything was excellent. The food here is outstanding, highly recommend 👍
It's a great breakfast place!
It's a nice fast casual restaurant, that many of my friends in the Maple area have praised for it's delicious and affordable food. I tried the egg benedict and everything from the small potatoes, the poached egg, the salad, and the ham were all cooked perfectly. I also tried my Sisters' Pork Belly Hash and it was delicious as well. This place gets a big thumbs up!
My new midday go to place. Casual, friendly and top notch food. Each time I try something else, I have a new favourite. Great spuds!!!
Looking forward to evening dining.
Went in expecting a greasy spoon. Left very impressed with the French Brasserie quality food. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious, French style brunch.
Probably my Top 5 pick for restaurants in Winnipeg. Great dishes and very unique flavor combinations. The way they cook the pork belly (tender, full of flavor, and crispy edges) to how crispy and moist the potatoes were on the pork belly hash made me want to come back the next day! Really enjoyed the Parisian gnocchi and Pork belly Hash!!!
This place is a good improvement from the previous restaurant that was at this location, Windows. Much cleaner and they've re decorated it. I could still use some work but it's clean, open, and comfortable.
I ordered the pork belly sandwich with fries. The bun is really nice and well put together. The only thing that needed improvement was the pink belly needed to be salted to complement the jam. The fries were great and unique.
I found out about this place through Instagram. Social media is not so bad after all! :) The pictures looked so deliciously mouth watering & so tempting! So one morning I suggested it to my friends for breakfast. The interior was simple but classy. It was clutter-free & I like that. Less is more for me! Since I was indecisive, I asked the Chef what he would suggest (who was the one taking our orders) & he suggested I try the pork belly hash. So I did! :) And I was not disapointed at all. All the ingredients was very well thought of. I really enjoyed it & because of that I came back a few more times to try different items from the menu. On my next few visits, I was able to try the gnocchi pasta, chicken & waffles, liguine alfredo (made with fresh pasta). What can I say? The chef got skills! His creativity & great passion for his work will definitely go far! However, I'm sure a lot of people would agree that he can use an upgrade on the chairs. But ofcourse it is a fairly new restaurant & would need some time before they can do that. Another thing I can suggest is, although I've never really had a problem with the service but based on other people's experience, perhaps you might consider hiring another server for those busier days/times. Otherwise, I'm very confident that this restaurant is gonna be one of the best in Winnipeg! Not only are the food the kind you will keep coming back for, but the ice creams are to die for & the staff are very friendly! I've always loved green tea ice creams but when I tried the Monk's blend, it became my new favourite. This is one of the few restaurants I highly recommend! And just for the record, this is the first review I have ever done. I figured people deserve to know about this hidden gem on Inkster. :)
This is a new local restaurant with some flair, and some heart!
If you're looking for a great place for unique brunch, lunch, Breakfast foods and dessert -- this is the place.
I will be honest, the location, decor and ambience need a bit of an upgrade, but that's fixable.
The food is really impressive and I think you should definitely give it a try for yourself. The flavours are different yet taste like home comfort. They mix flavours of French and inspiration from Filipino and Canadian tastes.
I've had the BLC (bacon lettuce cucumber sandwich), the confit chicken Poutine and ice cream (Salted caramel, matcha green tea Oreo) so far. Nothing has disappointed me yet.
Support this business because their potential is huge.
It was a quiet brunch date with my cousin, we were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered the pork belly hash and she had the chicken and waffles. She wasn't too pleased with hers, she didn't really like the hollandaise sauce on the waffles which was served with syrup. The combination was different for her. The pork belly hash was delicious, pickled cucumbers made a big difference, corn with the potatoes were spot on. If I were to complain about anything it would be that my egg was poached medium instead of poached soft. The yolk spilling on top of the potatoes, the corn and pork belly would have been awesome. Who doesn't love a little egg porn 😄 I'd definitely come back and try other dishes.
I went for brunch with five friends and we were all very impressed. The menu is simple, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. These guys do what they do very well. Usually one or two dishes on a menu will jump out at me, but I actually wanted to try pretty much everything on the menu, and will have to return soon. A few members of my party ordered the pork belly hash, and said it was phenomenal. I had the special - a duck prosciutto eggs benedict. The hollandaise was one of the best I'd ever had, the hashbrowns were perfectly crisped, and the dish was served with a delicious green salad with some sort of citrus vinaigrette. I finished every bite. We all had a great experience and will definitely be back!
Came here for brunch on the weekend, I had the pork belly hash, it was DELICIOUS. My boyfriend had the eggs benjamin and loved it. I would definitely recommend!
My wife and I were down right impressed with their food! My wife ordered the Pork Belly Burger with fries and salad, she said it was perfect in preparation, presentation and portion. The pork belly was thick and juicy and the fries were very nicely seasoned even though they sort of look like McDonalds fries. I, on the other hand decided to go for a breakfast inspired dish with the Pork Belly Hash. It was just perfect! The pork belly was nicely cooked and the seasoning on the potatoes really worked wonders on a food I don't normally consume. The addition of the corn was a nice sweet surprise. Even the pickled cucumber slices worked surprisingly well with this order. I was so impressed that I also ordered the Pork Belly Ribs. Wow, the wonderful sauce was so amazing, it had a very nice texture and overall had a sweet flavour to it. I loved dipping the fries in the sauce. If anything the ribs themselves could have been more caramelized, but they still tasted great and juicy!
Unfortunately the location is in the middle of the industrial part of Inkster, and the interior decor could use some work. They really should do something with the padded folding chairs. Not comfortable at all! I realize this is a new establishment so hopefully they can address these minor issues soon. My wife and I hope more people discover this little gem of a restaurant, they are trying something deliciously different in this part of Winnipeg and we hope they succeed. We will be visiting this place often!
Oh, I forgot to mention, we had some excellent desserts there are well!!!
Was very very excited to check out this new highly talked about north end restaurant.
The food was exceptional. We had the duck prosciutto Benedict and the pork belly hash and were blown away. The food itself is worth returning for. The cafe Americanos were fresh and full served with creme fresh and the lemon water was subtly refreshing.
However, the overall ambience and dinning experience is severely lacking. The decor itself is underwhelming and is further brought down by the lack of cleanliness throughout the restaurant (used napkins under tables, dirty floors at an 11am visit). The restaurant was ice cold leaving my party, other guests and their own staff wearing extra layers. Service was poor- not prompt or attentive. Unacceptable.
This restaurant has exceptional potential with their exciting menu and flavor concepts but as a new restaurant, has a lot of growing to do.
ADDENDUM: March 11 2015
I revisited CDL after a night out socializing and too many drinks hoping to cure my craving for savory food.
Ive chosen to revise my initial review and scoring based on this visit as it was significantly improved.
Everything from restaurant atmosphere, cleanliness and service was impressive. The food was the same- spectacular.
Would continue to recommend and revisit CDL.
Those who work/live/frequent this area would probably agree that the white (previously Windows Cafe) building isn't in a prime location and is easily looked over. Now that it's home to Creme DeL'Essence, don't.
Word of mouth on this place was good: quality food with a tasty version of the elusive traditional eggs benedict. I say this because the chains who offer it don't do it well and the bigger breakfast places stray from the original.
Came in bright and early on a Sunday. I will say my first impression was very mixed. I thought the bar area and breakfast bar counter looked nice with the aged wood, but the rest of the dining area were lacking. With cheap tables and chairs, it looks more like a block party set up. HOWEVER, you have to take into consideration that it's a newer place with younger owners who are just starting out. It wasn't dirty or anything, just not as polished as one would guess with their French name.
We were the only guests and we seated ourselves with the chef/owner/host bringing some tables together for our larger party.
Now I will agree with the other reviews here; the service was slow. It seemed like he was the only person in the entire restaurant and as we came in right at opening he wasn't quite prepared for us. By the time he took our orders we had been there for at least 30 mins if not longer. Then the wait for food on top of that was lengthy. We didn't mind as much since we were hosting friends from out of town and we could chat, but if the place had been fuller and and the wait any longer I can see why people would be put off.
Now the reason for the 4.0 rating: THE FOOD. Portion size isn't too small or too big. It was beautifully plated, fresh, hot, and delicious. I had the pork belly hash which was perfect! Tender but crispy salty pork, sweet corn, perfectly poached egg, creamy hollandaise, delightfully crunchy potatoes, and a slight acidity from pickled cucumber which was a nice surprise to cut all the fat. Other dishes ordered at the table: eggs benedict, eggs benjamin, chicken and waffles, and scrambled egg and toast. Everyone was very happy with their meals and the food was gone much quicker than it came.
I'm sure the ambiance will improve with time. As for service they definitely need to invest in some wait staff so the chefs don't have to pull triple duty. But at the core of it all it's young locals working hard to deliver well executed food. And with everything being $12 or under, it's well worth your money. Definitely worth a trip when you have time to spare.
Food is amazing but service is really slow. We tried their Eggs Benedict, Pork Belly Hash and Pork Belly Burger. Definitely delicious and fresh but service is so bad that I was almost done with my food when they served my orange juice. Given the number of people eating there, they need to hire more staff.
Amazing! I'm a breakfast lover and this was just over the top. I'm pretty sure this was best breakfast dish I've ever eaten. Definitely coming back and bringing more friends.
Randomly stumbled upon this place. Surprisingly very delicious! The gnocchi were great and so was the eggs Benedict. Would definitely come back. However, the exterior could use a little work.
Second time here. I had the Ube Pancakes the first time, and had the Pork Belly Hash the second time. Highly recommend both. Pork was salty but so good and tender. So many awesome flavours. And the service is really great. Parking lot has lots of reserved spots for other neighbouring stores, but I was able to find a parking spot both times.
Really good food. one of the best caesars we have ever had. The addition of the cumin and ginger beer his the right spot. The staff are really great too. Only criticism would be to add more variety to the menu or update it on and off for more choices :)
The service was excellent from the time we walked in the door! The chicken and waffles were spectacular and the eggs Benny had the most perfectly poached eggs I've ever seen. If you're considering dessert, you must try the Rocher!
The Chicken and Waffles are always on point, along with the Braised Pork Belly Hash. Pretty much you can't go wrong with anything on the Brunch menu. Make sure to order the coffee as well, perfectly brewed!
It was pretty nice in here, and if I was in the area I would come back. Their brunch menu isn't very big, though I did enjoy the chicken and waffles. Free coffee refills were great too!
Casual, clean and great food. Very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Unique choices Great service. Fair price for the quality of food. Ample parking. When we went for brunch the place was not busy but it was pretty noisy with just one group of people talking. Over-all a neat place to go and have a meal.
This restaurant is definitely redefining the North food culture of Winnipeg. Everything was so fantastic and its close to home. Definitely Recommend!
This is a hidden gem restaurant that everyone should try with a inventive menu. The spicy chicken waffles were amazing the chicken is confit before fried making it super moist and juicy with a great crispy exterior and covered Ina house made hot sauce that has a lot of kick to it but taste great as well and topped on great Belgian waffle.
