I've never had a bad meal here. I love the burgers. There's nothing fancy or showy about them so you can really taste the quality beef. A great classic spot for affordable and straightforward home cooking.

Nice diner with great service. Food came quick and the atmosphere was like an old school diner sitting beside the open kitchen. Not the quietest place but if you want solid breakfast and lunch fare go for it. I had the veggie burger and I would go back in the future.

We live in Wolseley and go to the Nook for Breakfasts when we want a quick but tasty big old fashioned breakfast. I've had the Bacon and Eggs with hash browns, bacon and toast, and also the steak and eggs. Greg has had the classic breakfast as well as an omelet and the eggs benny. Burgers and fries are decent as well. This is your classic greasy spoon diner (not to say it's unclean. It's not.) Their food is straight forward without gimmicks and in large portions with a reasonable price tag. The staff and owners are always pleasant and friendly, and they accommodate my allergies with kindness. (plus you can have a conversation at a reasonable level without being overwhelmed like a few other breakfast places.)

A good diner in a great location. Classic diner food, some tasty omelettes and breakfast options plus standard diner lunches... Nothing incredible, but great for a quick, tasty and easy brunch in the neighbourhood.

Great breakfast and lunch place! The food is always delicious and the prices are some of the best in Winnipeg. If you get there before 11AM, the breakfast special is discounted! You won't walk away hungry.

Have you driven down Sherbrooke St. recently on a weekend morning? If you have, you are likely to have seen the line ups at The Tallest Poppy and Stella’s. Another place that is a less trendy spot but just as good is called The Nook. The latter has been around long before the area became gentrified; thirty years in fact. Originally a Salisbury House, the corner spot was once known only to staff at the Misrecordia Hospital but more recently, the place draws a varied crowd. On this day, my sister and I were meeting for a quick lunch. I was concerned that we might not be able to get a seat (by a window) without a wait, but arriving just before noon, meant that we had no concern.

Not a bad diner.  Very busy at lunch but we were able to snag a table quickly.  Perogies were fantastic.  They tasted deep fried.  Yummy! :)
Service was great and friendly.  We didn't feel rushed either which is nice.  I've heard the breakfast is very good, and I'd like to come back to try the eggs benny or blueberry pancakes.
The worst part is parking, so if you can get here via alternative method (bike/walk/bus) you won't have to deal with that headache.

The Nook offers no nonsense breakfast, lunch and brunch options that should appeal to anyone looking for classic diner food. Despite that moniker, the do offer some unique and realized dishes that show the creativity and skill of its chefs. The perfect place for the start (or end) of ones day.

Good old fashon greasy spoon breakfast. Left Stella's Bakery because we were like sardines. Decided to try The Nook down the street. Hadn't been there in 20 years and now I'm wondering why.

If you want a good solid breakfast and a good cup of coffee and don't mind the cooks right beside you then you won't be disappointed. For those who want the Stella's atmosphere, don't waste your time.

Me? I'll be back for lunch.

Good, reliable breakfast fare. A repeat customer after a decade-long hiatus. The Nook has re-imagined itself as a hip, urban breakfasteria. Whether it's bacon and eggs, vegetarian eggs, an omelette, eggs benny, or something more lunchy, the food is dependable and good. The service is friendly and capable and the atmosphere is friendly, unobtrusive and humble. This is my new favourite breakfast place. It has surpassed Stella's up the street by far. Stella's is noisy, the service is hopeless and the food is spotty. I am guaranteed great breakfast at The Nook, and can hear my breakfast companion talk. The owners are lovely and happy to have us. A new fan.

Great Eatery. I went here for dinner and it was surprisingly good. The fries were hot and crispy and one of the best I've ever had. The portions for dinner was generous and I was stuffed. My boyfriend had the double cheeseburger, which looked really good too. The gravy was great too. The prices were fair and service was nice and fast. I will definitely be coming back here to try the poutine.

Going Back!. The Cesar salad I had wasn't the BEST but it was still great. The portion was very hearty and the grilled chicken was done perfectly. The huge chunks of bread you get on the side was probably my favourite. It's a bit pricey but I will be heading back soon. Someone next to us ordered a burger and poutine and it looked BEAUTIFUL!

Great "standard" breakfast fare. The Nook is great for reliable, standard breakfast fare. Healthy sized portions and pretty fast service. You'll have to wait in line if you're there on the weekends between 10:30 and 12:30, but traffic moves through pretty quick, so I've never had to wait very long. And it's always worth the wait.
Spinach feta omelet with a HUGE milkshake is an awesome 1/2-day meal.

Great Breakfast. I love eating at the Nook with my mom because we can both find something to eat there despite each of our strange dietary habits. What I (No red meat) love the most is the spinach feta omelet. My mother (gluten free) often can switch bread out for tomatoes, etc... the coffee is good, the servers are friendly, and the portions are large.

One of my favorite greasy spoons. If I want a cheap, classic breakfast special, this is the first place that comes to mind. Their sandwiches and other menu items are fine too. The atmosphere is "rustic", but it's a good, inexpensive dive.

I like the diner feel that they present. However, I don't know if it's because they are under staffed or inexperienced but they can't seem to keep up when they're busy. Good food at good prices tho.

Worth Visting. Having had a negative experience at their other location on Portage Ave. I was very hesitant to go to here. At much instances from a co-worker that we go one day for lunch I finally went. While the kitchens may be using similar receipes the experience is very different. While not a fan of the open kitchen at this place as all the fried foods hung in the air of the eating area the burger and fries I had was delicous.

I would consider going back here.

Pleasantly surprised. Honestly i didn't think i'd like this place. it looked a little grungy and i wasn't expecting much, but this place is decent! went here for the first time the other day. had the fat boy. it was huge! it was also a little hard to eat because of its size. i wasn't a huge fan of there chili, but i loved how thick the tomato slices were. i like the chilled atmosphere, and they played good music. cheap place to eat, and it'll fill you up!

Just plain good!. This is a place to eat if you are just plain hungry and don't want to think twice about it. Nothing showy or pretentious here! Unfortunately I have had two random, negative experiences (which isn't many considering how often I go) where my omelettes were insanely salty. I'm sure, however, that if I had complained they would have replaced them. The club sandwich is a beast (they roast the turkey in-house daily) and if you opt for a burger...go with something simple so you can really taste the pattie...delicious! Love it and will keep going back!

Best breakfast joint around.. I've been eating at the Nook since I first moved to Winnipeg. It's classic breakfast fare, served all day, and a wide variety of lunch/dinner options. From perogies to salads to the intimidating clubhouse sandwich (with a full chicken breast and a fried egg). There is always a dinner special worth contemplating too.

You're not going to get gourmet here, but what you will get is basic fare done properly with the attention of a very invested staff. It's been mostly the same people for years and years, which speaks volumes to the kind of place this is.

True diner experience!. This is our second time enjoying a breakfast at The Nook. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the outside had gotten a makeover, as had a portion of the interior.
It is always a pleasure to watch these cooks at work! Three cooks were busy preparing our meal, while the wait staff were busy filling the never ending coffee cups!
My husband had the standard bacon, eggs and hashbrown breakfast and he continuosly sang its praises throughout the meal. I opted for the pancakes and was not disappointed. They were light and fluffy and the portion was huge! We strongly recommend this restaurant for the perfect diner experience!

The place to be.. The nook is my husbands and mine number one place to go. First of all, I have to say, the service, is unbeatable. The servers treat you like you are their friends. It's awesome.

Now on to the food. The all day breakfast is PERFECT! there is not one complaint about anything about their breakfast. Their hashbrowns are so good and their omelettes are the best in the city.

But my favorite part about the nook is the supper. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable, We stay for hours sometimes, hopefully the servers don;t mind! The fries are so good, Other fries dont even taste like fries compared to these. The Reuben is the best sandwich ever. Th chicken fingers are huge and SO GOOD. The veal is hands down the best supper I have ever had, The fish dinner is AMAZING. As for salads, you shouldnt even get me started. The greek salad, is the MOST delicious thing you will ever eat. I have not ONE complaint about the nook. Everything there is flawless. My husband and I had our wedding reception there and everyone had an amazing time.

I have ALWAYS enjoyed going there, and I will continue to enjoy going there, for a very long time.

I just wished they stayed open later!

For lunch at The Nook I had a Reuben Platter, with a cup of Beef Noodle Soup to start. The soup itself was quite satisfying with loots of broad noodles, but the portion size of the cup made me wish I had order the not much more expensive bowl. The sandwich on the other hand, had corned beef tumbling outside of it, with plenty of cheese, sauerkraut, and their sauce. The portion of fries was substantial. Large enough that if I was dining with another person I’d recommend ordering one platter, one sandwich and splitting the platter fries. This was a weekend of desiring comfort food, and I appreciated the gooey quality of the sandwich. The fries didn’t seem to have been salted, which was a bonus in my books, as I prefer less salt, and was able to add it to that level. The platter also came with a half of a dill pickle. There is lot’s of substance in The Nook’s Beef Noodle Soup The Reuben platter was more than filling enough. On both of visits the service was excellent. While I was enjoying my breakfast special my coffee was regularly refilled. At lunch, while my server was busy, one of the other servers saw to it that my water got refilled as it was reaching the empty mark. This weekend was the first visits that I had ever paid to The Nook Diner, but I expect there will be more in my future.

The burgers were beautifully presented with a festive little cocktail stick holding the whole assembly together. The beef patties were large and hand formed, cooked thoroughly and tasty. One of my favourite things was there was lots of chili - big meaty chunks of it! One d

Really enjoyed my steak and eggs breakfast here. The steak was medium rare, just as I ordered it, and the eggs were done just right too. A classic diner where they keep your coffee cup full and are very friendly as well. Price is on point and reasonable.

Ah, there is nothing more enjoyable than sitting down in a local 'greasy spoon' diner to enjoy a freshly made breakfast. If you prefer the corporate style, don't eat here. But, if you enjoy being in the community and eating food that is served hot and fresh, then be prepared to wait to be seated... because this is one place to go! There is literally nothing fancy about this location. The decor is old and dated. None of that matters though, because the food and friendly service are the attraction. My guest and I were fortunate to be seated immediately. Hot coffee soon followed. I ordered the steak and eggs, while my guest opted for a bagel sandwich... which came with a pickle, but that was eaten before I could grab a picture! Everything arrived hot and tasty. The only negative feedback came from my guest, who noted that the sandwich lacked mayo or another topping. For those who enjoy coffee: you won't be disappointed. It was hot, fresh, and had the flavour notes of a very good breakfast blend.

Great service and most of the food was really good, but the eggs were undercooked. You could tell even before cutting in that they were practically liquid. Cinnamon bun was to die for though, and overall quality was good. Coffee was just ok. Edit: Later visit. Eggs still underdone. Will ask for extra well done next time. Mean overall was really good, and looked so tasty I forgot to take a picture until I was halfway through.

The Nook meets all the criteria of an excellent restaurant. Food is great, coffee is good, service is great. What more can you ask. They have an interesting setup. Their kitchen is the same room you dine in. Gives the assurance that they're following health guidelines, but it comes with the associated noise of a kitchen. Overall one of the best breakfasts I've had in Winnipeg.
