The ambiance reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, with its wooden tables and chairs to small desks and cabinets scattered with dwarf woodworks to its menu that has been hand made from scrapbook, stickers, pictures and scribbles which made me appreciate the time and effort it took to build the concept and the store up. From the Vegetable Curry which I must say the curry taste was subtle and not overpowering, a clear definition of precision in the Japanese cuisine. And to my favorite Takoyaki Egg Mayo Teriyaki Sauce, a balance of salt and sweet and tangy made my mouth water. They also made us try the Hamburger Steak( Loco Moco) and the Pork Yakisoba. Each of the presented dish to us gave their own characteristic taste to our buds aside from the fact that owner made personalized artwork on the side of the plate for visual presentation which makes it difficult to eat the dish. It's all super delish! Pairing the scrumptious meals with their best selling Roasted Green Tea with Maccha and Melon Soda Float and for dessert are Ice Shaved Strawberry topped with ice cream and the simple looking yet mind blowing Parfait made me forget that bubble tea ever existed. Aside from food and drinks, they have also made a part of the Kissaten into a gift shop that features a wide array of ornaments, souvenirs, anime collectibles, books, magazines, dolls, origami paper, parasols, handmade mobile phone accessories, bookmarks, to name a few of the itsy bitsy stuff that you can purchase from them. A perfect gift for yourself, family and friends. They’ve designed the shop in a way that visitors would have a birds eye view of what its like to be in Japan. A MUST recommended place! Will surely come back over and over again.. :)

This has got to be the most interesting restaurant in the city! Handmade menus were absolutely beautiful and unique, can't wait to peruse a different one next time. The food was all very unique, but also really approachable and delicious to a more typical Canadian palate. The amethyst roll had some new touches I had never tried before like tiny wedges of orange that added a quick burst of flavour to the sushi roll that gave way to the other flavours and the whole thing seemed to change taste three or four times before you finished each bite. The cream corn and bacon soup was very flavourful but not too rich or too creamy, so nice. I think Margaret had a donburi chicken and rice bowl, but whatever it was even the rice had its own delicious flavour to it. I had the curry chicken Udon noodle bowl and even though was already pretty much full at that point it tasted so good ai had to try and finish it all. (I failed.) I almost forgot, the gyoza dumplings were fantastic, made with care and a very carefully chosen flavour profile, not at all like the factory produced bagged monstrosities that we usually get in Canada when ordering gyoza. Even the prices were very reasonable, three of had appetizers and entrees and some heated Sake for under $80. Service was delightful, friendly, and helpful too, so great. This is definitely one of Winnipeg's most exciting restaurants, I am so glad I lucked into this rare gem!

This little place is actually like a Japanese cafe! On top of that there's the incredible quality of food, great atmosphere, good service, quite a surprising find in Winnipeg which is like in the smack dab centre of Canada furthest away from the west coast. You'd think something like Dwarf would exist in Vancouver but NOPE it's in Winnipeg (lol). P.S. Come on a TUESDAY for the best experience ;)

It's already my 3rd time coming to this restaurant and I am loving it more and more. Their food is sooo good and the staff are so nice.. I order different dishes whenever I go and they do not disappoint. I love the place too..it's so simple and very cozy...my only suggestion is for them to improve their menu book/binder in the restaurant because some binders don't have the other dishes they offer that can cause confusion because others might not know there are more dishes in the menu...but I'll be coming back to try more japanese food!

This place is amazingly cute and the food was delicious. I got the chicken katsu curry ramen and it was well balanced in savory spice. I did not get a dessert but everyone else did and they looked like a great ending to dinner, but the ramen filled me up

Wow! I think I came at least 5 times now? The food was amazing! I can't get enough of the Russian Roulette Takoyaki. I love how there's that surprise. The texture and taste to it is so good! Besides that, though it was a busy time on Saturday and a few glass issues last time, the service was great and very understanding. The last time I came, food was great and my dad really enjoyed how spicy the Death Ramen was (mom not so much). I very much enjoy the nice atmosphere and food. Though my favorite time would be more around lunch when I want that nice relaxing atmosphere. All in all this is one of my favorite restaurants in Winnipeg and have recommended it to a few friends, even some cosplay senpais in LA.

Been to this restaurant a couple of times now and enjoyed the food and atmosphere very much. Plus I don't know anywhere else to get onigiri. My daughter's and I love eating traditional Japanese meals and we come into the city to eat there when we can!! If you haven't been there , GO!

Food is good, but the store is the star! French Bistro meets Ramen House. Super cute setting, uniforms and a souvenir shop upstairs filled with stationery and toys. Nice meal, kitschy but a bit pricey.

We’ve enjoyed “the Dwarf” for years now, and it fills a nostalgic place in my heart for many of the classic foods I enjoyed when visiting Tokyo years ago. Truly excellent ramen (and I don’t usually like ramen) onigiri that are always yummy, but sometimes a bit inconsistent filling-wise (sometimes generous, but not always), mild but flavourful Japanese style curry, yummy Salisbury steak and tasty oknomiyaki (egg and crepe with various yummy savoury options) are some of the highlights. Typically the food is always well-executed and authentic to Japanese cafe-style food.

Atmosphere-wise they seem to be slipping, struggling, or maybe they’ve lost energy or given up due to steady take-out business. They started out with a unique and decidedly kawaii-style decor of fairytale whimsy, which drew us in. After a couple years the cute dwarf houses in the window are falling over and not maintained, the case that once displayed other cutesy stuff is empty, as is the refrigerator that once held ready-made onigiri. There appeared to be a failed attempt at a brunch/patio/flea market (?!), the items of which still scatter the exterior near the entrance. The walls are scuffed and need paint and the bathrooms are run down. The upstairs gift shop seems a bit misguided too.

These signs of deterioration are worrying, though food-quality continues to be good. We’ve yet to have a bad meal, though admittedly as the ambience as deteriorated, we’ve leaned more and more toward take out ourselves, which is a shame because their unique specials and kooky desserts are something we miss out on when dining at home.

In a city saturated with mediocre sushi, it's nice to see a Japanese restaurant serve Japanese cuisine that focuses on ramen. I know that there are other restaurants that offer similar cuisines, but there is just something a bit different about Dwarf no Cachette. From their flavourful broths, to their oddly and confusing name, there's just a certain charm to this place.

If you're craving for Raman noodles, this is the place to check out! Dwarf no Cachette is a cute little Japanese restaurant on Provencher that serves a wide variety of noodle dishes, including Soba noodles (cold noodles), Raman noodles, Tsukemen (Raman noodles that are served separately from the dipping soup), and udon. There's also a selection for rice dishes too.

I got the Kaarage Raman at my most recent visit and it was delicious!

On second floor of the restaurant, there is a cute little Japanese shop that sells the stationaries/craft supplies. It's quite neat!

I would highly recommend this place if you're looking to try something different!

The Restaurant Bucket List had one more place visited today.  The food at Dwarf No Cachette Cafe and Gift was excellent!  There was ample to choose from, for both the Vegetarian and the Omnivore.  Dishes could be made to order, so that we were both happy.
The server, who was also the cook, was very busy, yet equally friendly and efficient.  He happily explained the different dishes to us and provided excellent suggestions to suit our dietary preferences and tastes.
My friend had the ramen bowl, with shrimp.  It was a huge, hot serving which she enjoyed.
I had the vegetable tempura.  It came with a delicious slightly sweet soy sauce, and a good selection of vegetables:   crisp and very tasty.
Dishes were presented artistically, and served with pride.
I'd like to return to see the maid cafe in operation.  It sounds like fun.

A cute little restaurant. The service was good, just a bit of a wait when it is busy. We ordered the Karaage ramen and Russian Roulette tako yaki. I thought the ramen was very good with a flavorful broth. But caution to those who order the Russian Roulette tako yaki. All flavors were good except the death tako yaki. It was really spicy. Probably one of the spiciest things I've eaten. Although, it was fun trying to guess the flavors. Will return to try out other items on the menu.

Went here unplanned on a Saturday night. Phoned them first to confirm if still open - luckily it was. 🙃
Ordered hot pot and ramen which is soo good and cheap. Servings are so generous. Waiting for our order took longer than the usual though we are the last costumer who came in. Melon soda was good too, iced tea is just the same with other restaurants.

Absolutely a wonderful place for ramen. I love the location in the heart of St. Boniface. The building is amazing and cultured. The staff are friendly and helpful, dressed in super cute maid uniforms 🤣 the menu is very diverse with lots of Japanese favorites. The flavor of the dwarf Miso soup was amazing and the marinated boiled egg.... perfect. My fiancé tried the Death (++spicy) Miso soup (opted to make it deconstructed which he enjoyed). He said it was on the verge of being a little too spicy to enjoy the taste but respected them for having a killer spicy option. Next time I will try the Thick Miso ramen because they said it was a bit more thick and flavorful then the dwarf options. You can also make your Miso ramen spicy if u want to (not as spicy as the death however haha).
Upstairs is a café and gift shop which was closed but I will see it next time.
All in all, amazing place. Average cost is 15-20$ a person if u want a ramen and a appetizer.. desserts (milkshakes, floats etc) are 7$
Can't wait to return!

😍♡ Best restaurant for their food. Usually i stay with one dish at most places, but here i want to try everything! Only went here 3 times, dishes looked and tasted great. The burgers here are really overwhelming because it's more of a big slice of juicy meatloaf on a bun ♡ . 👍👌I always have leftovers or let my boyfriend finish. Their Breading for anything is on point! 😍 went there for a double date last, even the picky foodie had nothing bad to say about his dish 😊

PLEASE... Stop giving the only white guy at the table a fork. No it was not based on my meal, it was based on appearance. Seriously, if I'm hanging with a couple Asians do you think it's possible that I may have learned to use a couple sticks to eat a meal? Let the people who need a fork ask for a fork. That aside, they have good food, good service and an interesting little place to look at upstairs Japanese things to buy

Dwarf No Cachette Cafe and Gift is located on Provencher in the building that once housed Step N Out. I only went to Step N Our, but I enjoyed the food, along with the cramped, kitschy interior.  Dwarf No Cachette has a more open feeling to it but comes with every bit as much kitsch as Step N Out ever had.

I went here with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary it was really nice, I love the interior and their menu! Very friendly staff and their takoyaki is really good. We ordered okonomiyaki as well and just the meal itself will make you full. Prices are not too overpriced (the reason why it's kind of pricey is because of the imported ingredients, I'm guessing) so it's worth it and a really great authentic japanese restaurant where you can actually eat ramen. Their matcha with banana smoothie was so yummy too!

I would definitely visit again.

My friends and I have been wanting to try this place for a while and we finally got to yesterday. Right when you enter to restaurant it looked very cute. Very kawaii with the little figures by the window and all the decor. As we were seated, right after he took our orders, we quickly went to the store upstairs. A lot of cute kawaii things like memo pads, pens, keychains, etc. When we received our food, everything was delish! I was a little bit hesitant to try the Takoyaki but I really enjoyed it. First time having octopus. Good texture on the octopus. Overall enjoyed the food, service, and decor.

Going to Dwarf no Cachette is definitely about the novelty experience. From the whimsical decor and music to the menu that boast Japanese food items that are unique to this restaurant.

We arrived early on a Friday evening and there were only two other tables currently seated. We were greeted and sat quickly. There was only one waitress working the floor and as more parties started trickling, it became insufficient for one waitress to be attentive to all tables. I could hear other tables reminding her of ordered items that were forgotten. The owners did come out to help her, but there was usually a scramble to clear the tables or rearrange them as more guests came. They were extremely kind and accommodating despite the situation.

We had the chicken okonomiyaki which was considerably better than the two other times I've had it so I definitely will try it again. We also had minced fatty tuna over rice which was good as well. I will say that there are some menu items that are slightly overpriced for what they are. The desserts menu is definitely worth checking out as they are generously portioned for the sweet tooth.

The unique aspect of the restaurant is that in addition to their regular menu, they have different specials every month that makes you want to come back. I noticed that they also have an alcoholic drinks menu as well as other special treats.

They now offer a points card system where they offer special promotions. It's completely free to sign up for and there's always something different - from a free special drink to a percentage off your bill. It's valuable if you find yourself a regular patron.

Each visit to Dwarf is overall a pleasure and I keep going back!

Tried this place on a whim after my friend's favorite sushi place was closed for holidays. The interior is adorable and there's plenty to look at and check out. The service was friendly, and our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu. I got the katsu chicken rice bowl which was EXCELLENT while my friend got the dwarf burger, which was cutely laid out. We also got the strawberry cheesecake milkshake, which just tasted like a regular strawberry milkshake, but still good. Didn't get a chance to visit the gift shop. I also ordered the chicken katsu for pick up 1 night, and it was just as tasty as served in house.

Pros: Excellent servers/service. Really unique and fun on the inside. Adorable menus (they are hand made scrapbooks). Delicious fries.

Cons: Some of the decor needs to be wiped down. I was trying to get a good photo of the cute items against the window but most of them were splattered with what looked like soy sauce. I had the dwarf burger, and I didn't love it. It was VERY hard to eat, the beef wasn't great and it was soggy. The strawberry milkshake was disappointing, because the photos showed it with a lot of fun toppings but it came out as a completely regular milkshake. And I thought it was overpriced, especially the sushi rolls.

Overall I would go back but I hope they fix a few things. I love having these unique places in Winnipeg.

This place is absolutely adorable and a Winnipeg gem. Location is on Provencher, which at times can be annoying to find parking.

Inside the restaurant is like stepping into another world. I appreciate restaurants that take the time to set an atmosphere that is consistent (not all over the place), you get the theme of this place and what they stand for. There's a rustic feel with homemade looking posters displaying menu items and different scrapbook menus (which by the way aren't all updated, some of my friends got different menus with items that were not included in mine, for example).

The restaurant is Japanese - not solely sushi, but has stuff like okonomiyaki (sometimes with regional differences), takoyaki (different kinds!), onigiri, ramen, rice bowls, etc. so many different foods. They have different monthly specials, so there's always something new to try - you can find their updates on Facebook, they're good at notifying people about specials there.

Food is reasonably priced. It's a bit higher than other restaurants but I suspect it's due to the location. The portions could be bigger for the price, but I understand. Their spicy ramens are "meh" at best, but try their miso ramen (they put butter inside!). Their rice bowls are good too!

There's something for everyone, even for people who don't seek Japanese food. They have hamburgers. The flavours are good, the bun was eh. They're big and include two sides. We told the waitress this and they were really understanding and open to feedback - she even sent her manager to speak with us.

Try their dessert - their shaved ice is phenomenal, especially the green tea one! Their dango is good, though could be more for the price.

Would recommend if you were to take someone out on a date or taking someone from out of town visiting to somewhere unique.

This place is adorable! I want to be outright and say that the aesthetic isn't for everyone, but I really loved it.  I've always wanted to try some of the more comfort foods from Japan so it's lovely that we have a place like this in the city.
We've been a few times since they've opened; the service has been good although we felt there was a little bit of a language barrier sometimes.  For some reason, every time my boyfriend orders something they get the order wrong, but strangely my order has always been right.  Just make it a point to double check that you are getting the right thing!  I would also recommend checking out any of their special dinner nights.  I had an omakase-esque Valentine's Day dinner (an "Alice" set, Alice in Wonderland themed pasta) which I really enjoyed.  There is a very home cooked atmosphere that goes into the food which is really nice.  The desserts are very fun, they have things I've always wanted to try from anime like melon soda, strawberry parfaits (Gintoki would be jealous) and okonomiyaki.  I haven't been to the maid cafe night yet but I will be soon. If you like Japanese food, enjoy the culture and appreciate a cute environment, Dwarf no Cachette is for you!

The beef patties were gigantic and well cooked – moist, not dry – a home-style patty. There was just the right amount of teriyaki sauce on my patty to add sweetness without dominating the flavour. The mild tomato salsa was flavourful and added moisture to the assembly.

What can I say, I'm a very happy camper! Authentic Japanese food in Winnipeg, made just like in Japan! Dwarf No Cachette is a gem! Real ramen, real taste and if you've ever lived in Japan, then you'll be transported back to this typical modern 'Japanese' Resto café. As soon as you enter, you'll know what I mean!

From takoyaki, katsu, tempura, okonomiyaki, yakisoba, curry rice, donburi, onigiri, sushi, udon, doria... this Dwarf's Hideaway (English-Japanese-French translation) has more that filled a HUGE hole here in Winnipeg!

Congratulations Dwarf! Et bienvenue à Winnipeg! Omedetto gozaimasu! Oishikatta desu to gochisou samadeshita!

Happy eating everyone!

Cute Japanese Hipster Joint. It's rare that a Japanese restaurant in Winnipeg features anything but sushi. The opposite is true at Dwarf no Cachette. The menu was filled with authentic Japanese fare like takoyaki, ramen, okonomiyaki, donburi, and curry and rice. I tried the takoyaki and the rich soy ramen. The takoyaki balls, filled with octopus, were tender and easy to eat; a popular Japanese food in Japan. The ramen was good, but doesn't come with much besides noodles and a few items that seem more like garnish. Halfway through the ramen, the broth was a little too salty, so I had to focus on the noodles, which are said to be handmade in house. The service was polite, however the server sometimes couldn't answer questions like what type of seafood was in the seafood yakisoba. I came on a Monday night and was pleasantly surprised to hear a local Franco Manitoban band performing in the small space. It doesn't suit the Japanese restaurant or the cutesy theme, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

On my second visit I tried the assorted crunch fries and okonomiyaki. The crunch fries come with 2 pieces each of chicken, shrimp and potato croquettes. It was a small serving for the price, but they were nicely coated and crunchy. The default okonomiyaki is Osaka style, where the cabbage and other ingredients are cooked into the batter. I specifically requested okonomiyaki Hiroshima style, which has most of the same ingredients, but they aren't encased in batter, and it comes on top of a generous portion of sauted noodles (same noodles as the yakisoba). Tasting the 2 styles of okonomiyaki, I much prefer the Hiroshima style.

We had gyoza, assorted crunch fries, tempura shrimp, chicken katsu curry, sushi rolls and takoyaki. Everything was delicious. Ya gotta eat here...!!!. I have to start by saying that I've never been to an Asian restaurant that actually provides service. Usually once we get our food we never see the server again. but here... I give a 5 out of 5 for service. service is great. friendly fast and efficient.

the place itself is quirky. the design will put a smile on anyone's face, not to mention the nose attracting smells that will make your mouth water. upstairs is their gift shop where you can find several cute trinkets, toys and jewelry. The menu is another attraction, From custom hand drawn pictures and a hand written menu, with that much effort on presentation the wait for the food will make you salivate more...lol

for start we had takoyaki with egg. which was really good, steaming hot and the egg on top was a small egg salade portion that serves as a topping. the hand written restaurant name on the plate was done with Japanese mayo.

we also had potato corn croquettes. these croquettes were larger than I had expected. good to share between two people. they were crunchy on the outside and warm, mushy and savory inside.

I had the chicken katsu curry. the curry was good. not runny. it was the first time I've had a thick curry. the chicken Katsu stayed crispy till the last bite. the portion was huge. if anything I was in a food coma before the last bite.

we also had the Loco Moco which is a hearty bowl of rice with burger, fried eggs, veggies and some sauce. you get to choose 2 sides with it. I recommend you make a trip to this restaurant whenever you can.

Hidden gem for sure!. A friend of mine found this place on the Provencher strip back when it barely even had a sign on the front and we knew we needed to try this place. My advice is GO HUNGRY because, for the most part, everything is huge and you want to try it all.

The okonomiyaki is a vegetable and mostly cabbage based 'pancake' with mayo and sauce on top and it is full of flavour. It's huge though and you will likely not be able to finish it. Maybe split it with your dining partner with another order so you can try more than one thing. If you get anything other than the vegetable one you basically just get a couple pieces of meat on the top but honestly, you really don't need much on there. The brown sauce (bbq?) gets a little tiring after a while especially if you're eating it all by yourself but by that point you're full to bursting anyway. It's about $10 and you're stuffed.

The donburi bowls come with miso soup and are delicious and so filling. There is so much in them. Great value. My chicken katsu was SO good I've been having cravings since. The little rice balls, onigiri, look cute on the menu and because they're around $2 or so you think, why not?, but they're BIG and super filling! Delicious, but much bigger than anticipated.

The only thing that's not as big on value is the yakisoba noodles. They are delicious but most things, individually, fill you right up. The yakisoba is around $15 and leaves your belly with some room to spare.

Do not leave without trying their Genmaicha green tea with macha powder. It is to die for. Seriously, the best green tea I think I've ever had and I LOVE my green tea.

This place is a MUST try. I don't use all caps words lightly. But you MUST try this place. It's so refreshing to get a little Japanese place that sells real 'at home' Japanese food and not exclusively sushi. Great prices and great flavours. Do yourself a favour and go!!

Finally!. What a wonderful addition to St. Boniface and Winnipeg! From the moment you walk in, you can tell that the management has put a lot of time and effort into their profession and craft! The menus are hand written and in the format of a scrap book which already sets the stage for the wonderful food that will follow.

On my last visit, I tried the okinomiyak and soba noodles followed by their delicious shaved ice dessert.

The dishes we sampled were delicious and ornately decorated which further enhanced the presentation and the mayo on the savoury pancake was a delicious add-on to the meal. The flavours and portions were great value for their economical price point.

I would recommend getting the syrup for the dessert on the side so you can add it as needed (I have a sweet tooth, but not THAT sweet ; ) ) but the fresh strawberries and condensed milk went quite well together - surprisingly well in fact.

I can highly recommend this place and think it's a great addition seeing as how Winnipeg has many sushi restaurants but few Japanese options.

Curry Udon and Rich Miso Ramen. Both the curry udon and miso ramen are some of the best Japanese dishes I've ever had!

All I can say is wow. I wish my stomach was bigger so that I could try more of their delicious food in one sitting. We went here after seeing an advert for a high tea time set. It looked adorable. We ended up getting that, and I had the chicken katsu, while my friend had a strawberry shaved ice. I probably should have only ordered one or the other, as I would have been full with either, but both were so good I ended up stuffing myself. Next time I'll know better. They have so many fantastic things in their menu that I can't wait to have; takoyaki, okonomiyaki, curry rice, and much more. This is THE most authentic Japanese restaurant I've been to since I visited Japan last summer.
As for service, I had a bit of a hard time understanding one of the servers, but another one came in and interjected. They told me that the had the miso soup that should have come with my chicken katsu ready when I was finished with my meal and that they could give it to go. They didn't have it ready before then. I was so fully that I declined and couldn't be upset, as I had a very good visit anyway.

Come for the cute, dine for the delicious.. Visited the cafe with some friends for an early lunch today. From what I'd heard I felt we were basically coming for the cutesy decor of the place, but the food was also delicious! Friends have said that the ramen was good but the waitress told us it was unavailable because they had run out of fresh noodles. A bit disappointed, but good to know they go for quality over quantity. I had the assorted crunchy fries, which despite the name was a mix of fried seafood (three shrimps, two salmon, one squid) without a potato or other veggie to be seen. Although misleading, it was definitely crispy. I think it was a panko breading vs a tempura one. Also got the chicken katsu curry and it was very yummy. Hands down the best I've had in the city. Subtle curry which was not overpowering at all. Good thing, as it came in quite a large bowl with a lot of sauce. When I first saw it I thought I would be sick of it halfway through but that wasn't the case. Being my first meal of the day, and coming from a charity walk, I (and everyone else) finished all of the generous portion.
My only complaint was that the food took a long time. A few people had finished eating by the time my food had come out, and the "fries" that were meant as an appetizer came later than my katsu. I wasn't the only one, two others got their food still after mine. My friend who had been there before said that it seemed not all of their staff was in, so that could be a reason. However with us being a larger table, the food tasting very homemade and coming out hot and fresh, and the staff being very kind all was forgiven. I would definitely return. This desserts look good as well. I was meant to take photos but the long wait and the excitement took over and I only remembered my camera after enough food was gone to make it look unappetizing.
The gift shop upstairs was adorable and had a lot of little things flown in from Japan to please any lover of charming trinkets.
Long story short, if they work on their timing, this could become a regular for us!

I loved it! Came to see the live music by Justin Lacroix and, as always, it was great to hear him. The place was nicely decorated and had a lot of character. We both ordered burgers today and enjoyed them, both the avocado and the dwarf burger. Great coffee menu! The giftshop had some really neat items, including handmade origami rings! Will come back.

Returned to the restaurant after two years. It seems like they have added a lot of new items to their menu, including expanding on the types of ramen and okonomiyaki they offer.

Service was a bit slow, but understandable since there was only one waitress available and the restaurant was somewhat busy during lunch hour. We were seated promptly and our waitress was attentive.

I decided to order the black sesame ramen, which came with a soft boiled egg, nori, green onions, corn, and bean sprouts. I ordered it with chashu, but was later advised that they had ran out, so I opted to get the chicken katsu instead. The ramen was delicious, and the broth had a nice depth of flavour to it, and the chicken katsu was juicy and tender. I would definitely order it again. They also offer it in white sesame, soy, miso, spicy soy/miso, and death (which I assume is deadly spicy). The ramen was a good portion and is quite filling.

My husbanded got the gyudon, which is beef over rice, with green onions, onions, lettuce, and pickled ginger. My husband loves it and I also got a taste of it, and thought it was quite good as well.

We also ordered the takoyaki with plain sauce, and was probably the best takoyaki I've had in the city. The corn croquettes were a bit of a disappointment though, since it was mainly mashed potatoes and barely any corn was in there.

They also have a baked goods section, where they have curry bread, red bean bread, and Taiyaki. We bought one of the curry bread to try and it was delicious, but didn't think it was worth the $5 we paid for it.

Overall, we had a pleasant experience and enjoyed our food. Will definitely return again.

Came here today on Canada day. Upon entering the restaurant, I immediately noticed the beautifully renovated interior. The servers were all very friendly and attentive.

I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and the vegetable okonomiyaki. The okonomiyaki arrived first. It tasted very good, however, it was a little denser than for my liking. It would have been better if it was cooked a little less longer, so that the texted is softer. There were lots of vegetables in the okonomiyaki. The portion size of the ramen was decent and it was very good, though I wish there was more meat provided. There were three small pieces of pork. I also ordered an omurice to go for my husband, but I will have to update that later once he has tried it.

There is a rack by the entrance with Japanese magazines that you can look at while you wait or when you're eating. Live music was also available, with a guitarist that came in just shortly before I was about to leave. They also have a gift shop on the second floor, but it was not ready yet for me to go take a look. Overall, I really liked the place and would definitely come back again to try the rest of their menu.

Dwarf no Cachette is a refreshing find in a city saturated with sushi restaurants who attempt to mirror and copy one another. If one is feeling adventurous and open to exploring what else Japanese cuisine has to offer, I vehemently suggest Dwarf. In fact, I would rank this as one of the best Japanese restaurants Winnipeg has to offer.
