Food was absolutely wonderful. Beautiful croissants 🥐...best ones ever...so buttery and delicious!! My absolute favourite!! Staff very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Gotta love this cafe!!😘
The butter tarts are some of the best in Winnipeg. The chocolate cake (zucchini?) was moist and very tasty and the icing and ganache gave me a buzz for the rest of the day!
A must go. Everything perfect. Service, food. Simple but perfect.
Great service, friendly and fast! Delicious food and mouth watering goodness! Yummy!! Definitely will go again.

Very nice cafe great service meal was outstanding and the cinnamon buns are worldly will be back with friends really soon
I've been here several times and my entire family loves it. Even at breakfast, we have to have the desserts and always take home a loaf of their wonderful bread!
I love this place! The food is amazing and the environment is super cozy and charming.
Thank you for making my first visit an enjoyable one. The food and service was excellent! :)
Great place to hang around. Had a lovely brunch that consisted of a soup and salad. Servers were friendly and overall it all was magnifique!
My review will be fast and to the point, you must eat here! The Frenchway Cafe has great food made to perfection! Today I had the special grilled Turkey club with Brie cheese, it was made with...yes real roasted Turkey! I can rave enough about this place! I also recommend getting some of the insanely great Bread Pudding to go.
The Frenchway Cafe is one of those places that gets talked about a lot, but somehow or other I never get around to writing up. About 15 months ago I paid a visit to interview Larissa Webster, the owner, as part of a post I wrote about a fundraiser called Stone Soup Luncheon. We ended up talking more about the French approach to food than we did about the event itself. While I was there she offered me a bowl of their vegetable soup. Before I left, I visited the pastry case and purchased a couple of pastries to take with me and enjoy back at the church office.
There's not many people I can say I've known for 12 years and still maintain a close friendship with, despite all the changes in our lives. . So how do we celebrate 12 years of shenanigans!!? Eating of course; Pastries for breakfast? Yes please!. We started off with drinks. Coffee for those two and blood orange soda for me, before quickly diving into a conversation as if no time had passed.
This morning was my first time going there. I went with my baby who just turned one! Service was great, I can't remember my waitresses name, but it seemed she had just come back from a trip and all the customers loved her! Food was great! The only complaint I would have is that the hash browns were definitely "older" other than that my experience was great and I'll definitely be back with the rest of my family! We just moved down the street! :)
The best Croissants I've ever had! I'm not lying. I get 2 every other morning! Buttery, flaky and delicious. Perfect crunchy outer shell with layer after layer of melt in your mouth buttery pastry. I have yet to find better and doubt I will!

It is my 60th Birthday and I had asked if they could make a hazel nut slice the day before. They did not have time.. however they made me a hazelnut macaroon! It was perfection in each bite! Every time I purchase a pastry from this place, it is beyond wonderful! Staff is amazing always and they have promised to make the hazelnut slice soon so I will be back again to indulge again!. It truly is done the French way!
Ok, to be fair my rating is only for the desserts as I haven't tried the food yet, but I bet my rating will be the same. Bought desserts to have on New Years and the did not disappoint! It's a good thing I don't live to close to this place or else I would be there everyday for a treat.
The food us always great. Their baked goods are always amazing. The service is often slow, but that isn't a deal breaker. The salmon benedict is worth the wait!
I am a regular. I really enjoy their meals. My favourite is the mushroom and chevre crepe. My gf likes the eggs benedicte. The issue is the service. It's always a hit or miss with the service. This morning, for example, the servers didn't even offer us coffee for close to fifteen minutes after we sat there.
This is basic stuff. We are there for breakfast, give us water and offer coffee.
Couple weeks ago, our coffees were never refilled the entire time we were there.
I will continue to go there because the quality of food makes up for their lack of service.
The desserts are too die for love the macarons just like the ones I used to have in Paris absolutely spectacular pastries as well haven't tried the bread yet but can hardly wait to try it next
Awesome Lunch. We strolled into the Frenchway about 1:00p.m. and were seating promptly. They were out of the vegan burger which was disappointing.... but hey they must be good.
I decided upon a full sized salad that had candied pecans and blue cheese and poached pears. It was served with two slices of fresh baguette and it was delish!
My sidekick ordered the olive tapenade served with fresh baguette and a bowl of chicken curry soup.... he loved it and it smelled heavenly.
We had two glasses of their home brewed iced tea (fabulous)
The new menu looks great, service was fast and efficient.... just wish we had room for dessert!
Best Desserts in Winnipeg. After walking out of Baked Expectations today I felt the need to give this place some love. The food has always been excellent and the service is improving. It has always had a welcoming atmosphere even if the service has been a little flaky. However with short wait times for food, reasonable prices and mind blowing desserts I am willing to forgive one or two spacey (but friendly! ) waitresses. I rarely get time one on one with my sister and filling the table with desserts while talking our ears off is our new favourite thing.
Breakfast Review. We enjoyed 3 separate breakfasts at our table - all were excellent. I enjoyed the mushroom crepe - overflowing with vegetables and perfectly cooked. Eggs were exactly as ordered and vegetarian grilled cheese was a hit with us. Service was also right on - friendly, attentive but not too attentive. Will definitely go back.
Went for lunch today, service was excellent and the food was good. Had mushroom crepes and veggie grilled cheese. Took home some cookies for dessert and finished then immediately. I would definitely go back.
Delicious brownies!. Never tried the food here, only the desserts. Chocolate chip cookie is awesome, chewy and not at all crunchy like a lot of bakeries do them. I'm in love with their peanut butter brownies so I've really only been able to try them because I can't resist! My boyfriend picked up some desserts for dinner party and he got a regular brownie, which was just as good. My friends enjoyed a blueberry tart thing that had lot of almond flavoring in it. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but then again I don't like tarts/pies/almonds!
Will need to see how the next visit goes.... I went to the Frenchway specifically because there had been mention of macarons being sold there. Since I came late in the day though, I was informed upon my arrival that they were all sold out for the day :(
I did manage to get a delicious brownie however.
The server informed me that should I wish to get some macarons, if I know that I plan on being there later, they would be able to put some aside for a pick up that day if I called ahead. $18 for a dozen macarons was the price quoted.
Mon Endroit Préféré- My favorite place!!. I recently discovered this cafe when my partner and I were walking down Corydon. I must say, the desserts look absolutely stunning, If I can try them all, I will.
I had the eggs benedict for breakfast which I have to say tastes AMAZING..I love how their hollandaise sauce tastes- I have never tried anything like it. I then had the bread pudding warmed up (suggested by my server) which was absolutely delicious. I WILL be going back for sure & bringing my friends and family-this cafe is a must go to for everyone! Not comparable to other breakfast restaurants ..this is the real deal and very reasonable prices for the portions they offer.
Staff were really friendly, I was a little surprised to read some of their reviews and seeing poor service was brought up. I was satisfied with their service & I noticed my server was ensuring I was happy at all times, which I appreciate.
Hope this place stays open for a lifetime-worth a trip!!
Great Food, Slow Service. We had the mushroom crepes, bread pudding and blueberry tart. Everything was wonderful. All of the desserts seem huge in comparison to other restaurants, and are very reasonably priced. However, once we put our order in, our waitress didn't check on us once even though there were only two other tables of customers. We only got dessert and our bill by hanging around the counter.
I love that thing no one can pronounce. I love the French way Cafe the breakfasts I have had here with my family have been over all good and the produce seems to be always fresh. Pastries are always top quality too and that is where they truly excel. Larger breakfast services for the new business location in the Corydon area (not sure what happened with the new academy location) is changing the business more to an "eat in" place than it has ever been, and they are still learning to handle it. They are working with a bigger (less knowledgeable too) staff base and the owners of the business are relatively young to be as successful as they are. That being said I find they put too much vinegar in the water when they poach eggs. It also annoys me that the staff at the new location, often know nothing about pastries they sell. I like learning about food when I go into a place staff that cannot pronounce the pastries they are selling are a bit of a letdown :( I want to be able after ordering something once to say the name properly.
When I walked into the old location is was often you would see one of the business owners who could tell you anything and everything about their baked goods and I do miss that. The quality of the baking is still there, the selection has expanded and if you stay away from poached eggs and cut them a little slack when they are busy you should enjoy going there. Which means (from my perspective anyway) they are better than a lot of people are giving them credit for here. This is a great local business worth the support and I can only see them getting better as they learn how to deal with and train a larger staff base.

A Must for all. Reminds me of a Stella's cafe, which is one of my fav's however the desert at the french way is 100% better then anywhere in winnipeg...and that is not an over exaggeration...go ahead...try it for yourself..you will not be dissapointed. oh ya! and its family owned and operated 5 stars
I wish you could respond to reviews! I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but are you kidding me! Frenchway a bad experience? You got to be kidding! I have never been disappointed when I've gone there! Staff are very friendly and food AlWAYS tastes and looks great! Just because you experience one bad time doesn't mean you shouldn't go back! Support our local restaurants instead of chain restaurants who serve food that comes frozen in plastic bags! At least this place supports other Winnipeg local stores and gets product from there! There bacon, its actually bacon! It's amazing, not just microwaved like at other breakfast places! There potatoes are actually potatoes and don't come frozen and pre cut! I have a lot of allergies and can't eat a lot of foods so I ask the servers before ordering and there happy to tell me anything. Love this place and will come back more then once! There patio is also open and is amazing to be on during a hot Winnipeg summer. Amazing pastries in town and best breakfast, even better then Stella's!
This cafe is very nice! Great service and fast hot food served! Pastries are amazing and reasonable in price! I had Eggs Benidict and it was perfect! Better then anywhere I've tried! I would suggest trying this place out! A++++
Best Bread Pudding in Winnipeg!. I love, love this place! All the pastrys are phanomenal especially the bread pudding super moist, decedent and delicious. The cinnamon buns are also very good they use caramel on top aswell as cinnamon which makes them super tasty, ooey gooey and unique. Everything is really good except for the coffee which is rather bland.
Delightful Lunch. I had always wanted to return to Frenchway Cafe and the last time I tried back in June I noticed the Academy location was closed and a move was in progress. I am not sure when it opened but I finally made my way to the Lilac St location this past weekend with a party of 4. The menu was fairly small offering a selection of breakfast items, sandwiches, and salads with a few different specials. Service got off to a bad start after ordering coffee with cream and receiving only a black one, put down on our table so fast we had no chance to ask the server for cream. We did manage after a few minutes to tag someone down and ask, but they seemed to have forgotten. Finally over 5 minutes later our server returned and we asked for cream and a spoon to mix it. Later on with the food we ordered 2 more coffees...that didn't come with a cream refill nor spoons.
Going on to the food, one person had the french toast. They found it tasty, sweet, but it comes with the syrup already put on, and my dining guest found it to be a tad dry when nearing the end. We fixed this easily by requesting more syrup and butter. The second person had an open face turkey sandwich that came on a crusty baguette and was topped with cranberries and a white, gravy like sauce. You have a choice between receiving a garden salad or hashbrown like potatoes with sandwiches. We all sampled the hashbrowns and they were delicious. My bf ordered the soup of the day ( chicken in tomato broth with veg) and a ham sandwich. Neither the soup and sandwich combo is listed on the menu, neither is the ham sandwich. But he asked if they could make it for him and the server said yes without any hesitation. I ordered one of the lunch specials, a tomato pesto salad ($10.95). It was spring mix covered in pesto with fresh tomato chunks topped with pine nuts and served with a couple slices of fresh baguette. It was very delicious! The food came out very quickly as well and service was good the remainder of the visit. For dessert we shared a chocolate eclair filled with a light, yummy, chocolate cream. WIth all 4 of us loving our different meals, I will definitely be back in the future.
Pastries and MACARONS.. I think this place is one of the few places in town you can get MACARONS. I'm disappointed we don't have more bakeries that sell macarons... tsk tsk. Get with the times, Winnipeg!
I digress...
They have excellent macarons. Better than my favourite macaron place back in Ottawa. SO SO GOOD. They come in default flavours and in a default portion of $15 (10 macarons) which comes up to be $1.50 a piece. Not bad for something so decadent. The filling is nice and the cookie itself is delicious.
They also have good madelines, millefeuilles, croissants and pain du chocolat!
Try it out, you won't be disappointed. (Unless you're from France and you had the real deal.)
LOVE this place. I'm a regular here. Everything is good, and the service ( though occasionally slow) is friendly and accomidating. The turkey baguette is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything off the lunch menu. Finish with some of their delicious tea and a sweet for a perfect brunch. Mmm!
Yum !!. Best damn eclair I have ever had, it is packed with filling, big, and super rich, the coffee is great as well, and the service was warm.
Well done!. Two of us went for lunch about a month ago had a great time! We had the baguette with brie sauce, cranberry, turkey and asparagus to share and it was superb. Very friendly staff. We took a baguette home with us for our antipasto platter dinner. Yum!
Kudos to another excellent small business in Winnipeg!
Great Boulangerie and Cafe. The bread.
The bread is spectacular (pricey) - crunchy, chewy and melt in your mouth. A little Nomandy butter on this bread is heaven. Tha pasteries are great with wonderful cakes and croissants. They have a breakfast and lunch menu of crepes sandwiches and soups. Very small space - designed for mostly take-away.
A little expensive but very good quality. You will not get out without buying something yummy here
The food is good, I wouldn't say it is amazing though but averall the breakfasts here are above average.
The service is amazing, especially the blond server (with glasses), she is so friendly and careful, this compensates all the minor issues (like overcooked sausages sometimes) of the food.
I give 4 stars for the food and 6 stars for the service = 5 stars overall.
It’s my first time here, and the food is tasty. Staffs are friendly and nice. I also ordered an opera cake for takeout, it is awesome! Not too much sweet, so softy ! I really enjoyed the time here with my friend. Nice place for brunch!
I've been here several times, each time Great food, friendly service. Tasty breakfast of eggs Benedict with steamed asparagus. We were well served by Tanith, our charming and attentive server. Took home a cinnamon bun and a pain au chocolat that was to die for!
Just wow. Been wanting to try this place forever and they did not disappoint. Went in for brunch with a bit of a waitlist, but made sure we knew there was no pressure if we changed out minds while we waited.
Snagged their ultra limited edition Burger Week 2021 and savoured every bite along with my side of their coconut curry beet soup.
Will be back for the food, treats, and amazing staff that made me feel safe and welcome.
Tasty breakfast - typical fare with an extra flair. Bakery treats have a more 'European' flavour (less sugar & butter than North American versions).

Edit. We come often and we love getting some treats. The breads are OK. The strawberry whipped cake is so good and different tarts. The apple strudel is too big and many raw apples.
Probably my go to place for brekkie. This place is the perfect place to meet friends for a quick coffee and scone. Love the vibe and great service. One minus is the coffee is just OK, wish it was great.
Great food, fast friendly service and very reasonable prices.
I loved that the benedict came with mushrooms! The beer cheese soup was phenomenal. I would definitely come back just for this soup. My company said the strawberry crepes were also amazing.
I've enjoyed some sandwiches from here as well and have never been disappointed with the food or service.
