Review Sushi Ya - Winnipeg

Elle Ash
I’ve been coming here for years and have never left disappointed. They have a great menu with decently priced rolls, appies etc. the service is great, lovely and friendly. Dynamite, volcano, Bakudan, are a few favorites, but everything is pretty tasty. Not a huge space so it’s perfect for dine in without the noise of a crowded place. One of my go to sushi restaurants!
Marina Havard (Marishinka)
This place is good and has great service. It’s a nice cheap meal. Be warned everything has mayo and fried bites.

Just discovered this place today but has to be hands down of the my favourite sushi locations in terms of sashimi freshness, atmosphere, service and portions. Don't overlook this small restaurant because it is a gem! First off the waitresses and chefs were super friendly and accommodating. we ordered the sashimi combo and a sushi roll, the sashimi combo came with so much things and I really wanna mention the sashimi portion was so good and fresh for the price! The sashimi pieces were HUGE! Assorted tempura came with the combo and i really loved their choice of tempura,, there was crab, squash, peppers, shrimp, yam😋 yujiro and edokko are good but i would definitely choose sushi ya, highly recommend and hope the restaurant maintains their quality!

Beautiful price for the sashimi combo box! I was used to go for all you can eat sushi often but the sashimi is nowhere near this quality, and the sashimi amount given here is so worth it, I consider it a much better deal than going for all you can eat sushi. Not to mention the chef Danny is such a nice guy he even remembers the specific sauces I want without asking every time.

Edited Review: I just have to say again.. Sushi Ya you are amazing!! I haven't been in to order in probably a year or over, but today I placed my order through the phone for pick up and I was utterly shocked that you all still remember me and my favourite roll. Thank you so much for being a great restaurant and filling my lunch craving!!! I would give you 100 stars if I could. Original review: Sushi Ya is my all time favorite sushi joint!! I'm not a huge fan of the raw fish rolls but they have tons of other options that I enjoy getting, and they never have a problem with me adding a small customization to a roll. Rose garden roll with tempura shrimp is my absolute go to 😍 The staff are always pleasant and I always feel welcome! Come on, how could you not? Danny is a great owner!!!
Michelle Hollywood
Best sushi place I’ve ever been too! It was so welcoming and they made you feel just at home. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was so cozy the workers are so friendly. I would definitely recommend to anyone who would like to try some of the best sushi!

I measure all other Sushi restaurants against this one and have not yet been to one that is as good. I am never disappointed by the food or the ambience, and; Danny is quite simply the nicest guy I've ever met in the Winnipeg food industry. My only disappointment is that I live an hour away from this place.

Writing another review because they are amazing here. 6 of us had a fantastic fathers day lunch. The kids loved the miso soup! Everything tasted amazing. Thanks for everything.

My wife and I always go to Sushi Ya whenever she gets a craving (which is always lol). My wife and I went there yesterday for the 1st time in about 10 months (pregnant) and it is and always is the freshest sushi around and great service as we have come to know. Can't say enough great things about this place and we recommend sushi ya to everyone we know. Absolutely love this place

Such a great place. I'm from Saskatchewan and first visited Sushi Ya in 2016. This trip I had to go back. Everything we had was fantastic. Fresh and amazing service. When I said I was from Saskatchewan and that Sushi Ya was a must stop while we were in town, they brought us a beautiful little dessert. It was so fresh tasting and really finished off the meal beautifully. Thanks for a wonderful experience. We will be back!

I've been to many sushi places in Winnipeg. Sushi Ya is my favourite sushi place thus far. I always recommend this place 👍🏼

Great food and great service. Enjoyed everything we had.

Staff were friendly! Excellent service.. But we forgot our lollipops!!!

My #1 sushi choice! I love this place! You get free edamame beans when you dine in, so thats a nice touch. It's really great sushi for a decent price. They also make their own soy sauce…wayyy less salty. Yum! Great staff, prompt service. A+++

Woowww the best!

First time here and some amazing food!!!! We will be back and we will tell all of our friends who love sushi just as much as we do❤️

Addicted to this restaurant. Best sushi in the city by far.
Rosa
Always great sushi here! Our go to is the gomae for appetizer, bakudan and yam rolls. When you dine in you get a bowl of complimentary edamame and staff are very sweet. Orders to go are always perfect. Favourite sushi place for us!
Jessica
This is my favourite sushi place in the entire city! I absolutely love their dynamite roll and sushi pizza! Also their bakudan rolls and caterpillar roll are delicious! Free edamame to start when eating in :)

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Winnipeg. Could be part in parcel of their insanely good spicy mayo sauce. I have yet to find another place that makes it like they do. Quality is consistent. If you’re new to Winnipeg or just visiting, I would highly recommend. One note, the rolls are healthy in size, some people might prefer dainty rolls.

I am so happy that I found this gem of a place last year. The owners are so polite and go out of their way to make their customers happy—greeting them with smiles, having small talks and/or giving an extra piece of sushi or sashimi like it is no problem. It warms my heart to dine in such a positive and warm environment where the owners truly take care of the customers and I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant.

While I am a sushi-fanatic and admit that it’s not my number 1 of “totally-to-die-for” of all the sushi places I’ve ever tasted and dined at, I do think it is consistently delicious enough for me to come back and the prices are more than reasonable. If I had to choose either Sushiya and some sushi place that is tasty but lacked in service and/or attentiveness to their customers, my heart is where Sushiya is at.

Like a home cooked meal made with such passion and love, an overall fantastic dining experience packed with such positivity and care from all around, I mean— it’s all a girl can truly appreciate. I will obviously be back.

Sushi ya was not a planned visit, there happened to be parking in front and decided to try. Very. Ice atmosphere and we tried some TNT rolls, tuna bakugan, and something else I don't recall. The TNT rolls were very tasty, and sized jets right considering the tempura shrimp on top for an easy mouthful (this is relative of course...). The bakugan was delicious and the other rolls were a basic light refreshing roll with avocado, cucumber and seemingly lots of mayo. Either way it was juicy! They forgot the ginger and wasabi for me, but I didn't think this was a big issue as they realized this after. Overall, very pleasant and roughly what I expected price wise. Good eats!

Not impressed. We took Sushi Ya off our list of 'take out' restaurants. As an office business, we order large sushi orders at the end of the night. Do not trust the hours posted on their menu or even what they say when you call and ask what the hours are. Today (again) we called to make an order but were told (by the owner) they closed early because 'corydon was crazy' and 'we were busy' :(. Not a restaurant I can count on.
Alexis Harrison
I enjoy going for a walk down corydon and coming to sushi ya for my fix of sushi! Always tastes so fresh and wonderful! I do wish the inside of the restaurant would get a little upgrade, other than that I love love love this place!

Came here on a Thursday evening with the wife. Despite being a weekday evening, we were shocked at how busy it was! The restaurant was nearly packed to capacity and despite what seemed like an endless number of takeout orders through Justeat, the staff were both prompt and attentive throughout our meal.

The sushi here is excellent. They serve many rolls inspired by some loyal customers and the chef dedicates the name of the rolls to them. I would consider these signature rolls that are unique to Sushi Ya! So if you're looking for something different you've come to right place. They also serve their Agadashi tofu in Tempura form with a side of unagi sauce. This is the only sushi restaurant that I know of that serves it like this! Lastly, their Al Bop is also very unique. It's a different take on Korean rice served in a hot stone bowl, using Japanese ingredients and seasonings.

Aside from their many unique offerings, they don't skimp on the details. They serve you free Edamame when you are first seated. Their miso soup has minced fresh tofu in it. Also their Tempura sauce has something like a ginger/shallot seasoning added to it.

The restaurant is a bit dark at night and can get noisy when packed, but of all the sushi restaurants on Corydon, this place definitely stands out.

Fresh sushi, good portions (if a little pricey), gorgeous presentation, yummy! Would highly recommend.

I'll be ordering from here much more in the future!

Great service and great prices. The sushi chef is so friendly! Awesome lunch specials here. Some of my favourites are salmon aburi, beef tataki, Cori’s roll.

The first time to visit Sushi Ya, since new owner took over the restaurant 2month ago. As soon as I entered the restaurant, a waitress greeted me with big smile. I ordered few dishes for take out. while i was waiting at the table, they served green tea. serving time was pretty fast. There are big portion of stuffing and thin rayer of rice each roll which is good. Taste was excellent. Highly and strongly recommend to anyone who likes sushi.
Tayger
Tried this place out at the suggestion of family that used to live in the area. My experience was not as positive as expected.

When we got there, we were greeted and given a complementary plate of Edamame. It was delicious and a gesture you do not find at other Sushi places. I enjoyed that. Another positive is that they also provide bottomless beverages which is also a rarity in this field. I ended up ordering the Sashimi Combo to get a little variety as to what they offered. This came with 10 pieces of Sashimi, a California roll, assorted Tempura, Green Salad, Miso Soup, 2 Gyoza and rice. The Tempura was delicious but everything outside of that was just average at best. Nothing stood out as an item that I had to have again. Another person in my party ordered 3 rolls (California, Steve and Squid Tempura) and Sunomono Salad. The Salad came out and I didn't even recognize it for what it was. They used a brown vinegar base and in place of the noodles there were shredded vegetables (Radish or Daikon?) that are used as garnish on other plates. Everything tasted mediocre and to top it off, something in that mix made her sick for the rest of the evening.

The service was great. Our waitress was always attentive to anything we needed and the food came out in a timely manner.

The decor and atmosphere of this place is also nothing to write home about. If I had to describe it, I would call it "Generic Sushi Restaurant #38" and most people can get the picture from there. I have to mention that the music selection for our time there was great and gave my rating an extra half point.

I will not be in a hurry to return to this place.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant on Corydon and probably in Winnipeg overall. The food is very good and it is by far the fastest Sushi restaurant in Winnipeg (my food is usually ready in ~5min, which is pretty amazing. Definitely check this place out.

Sushi ya is my favourite sushi restaurant in the city. It's me and my girlfriends special spot. We come here at least once a week. The sushi is always top ched and the servers are sweeter than pickled ginger. Love this place with all my ❤️. Shoutout to keiko.

Maybe I'm exaggerating or maybe it's the fantastic bowl of kimchi speaking through me but dare I say, "best sushi I've had off the coast"? Hot sake!
Christopher Moltisanti
Not entirely sure why everybody loves this place so much .. The rolls weren't very good and the only positive part was the sashimi which I found overpriced for the size of serving. Place seems dingy and poorly cleaned as well as outdated
Unknown Muncher
Sushi us is pretty adorable and one of the places I frequent for sushi. Although it is definitely not the best that I've had, the many little pleasures I experience here are what keeps me coming back.

Staff is always very attentive and kind, food is consistent, and the dum dum pops have become somewhat iconic.

Would definitely recommend the bakudan rolls, something about their spicy sauce just makes them worth the try.

Am I missing something here? The reviews led me to believe this place is one of the top-notch places to get sushi in the city. :(

I got the chirashi on one occasion and it was lacklustre. Rice was hard, and fish looked really sad. When I mean sad, I mean badly cut. Other places in the city have more variety in their chirashi, and theirs was just badly cut pieces of tuna, red snapper, escolar, salmon, and some OK-quality surf clam. I don't know if my picture captures that, but I remember seeing some fibrous ends and being like... really?

The rolls I did try are not really that great either. Really mushy, compared to other places, and the rice itself did not seem to be well-seasoned.

Maybe I expected too much? Hyped myself up too much for this place? Me and my friend (we're both really picky with sushi) both agreed that it's not really the best place... it's passable, but not great. :| There are other choices of sushi restaurants along Corydon.
Dan Laing
Ya!. I love this place. Always my #1 choice if I'm craving sushi on a budget
They provide a ton of great options, for a very reasonable price.
Every time I've done take out, the order is ready very fast, and never wrong.
The service is great when I choose to eat in.
Znvn10
Worst sushi restaurant. Rolls are very disgusting and they use cheap low quality of crap meat obviously.all the sushi do not have enough rice. sushi are drenched in mayo
They don't have a single cook in the kitchen. Almost everything is frozen and then microwaved, which is very convenient for kitchen helpers, but very unhealthy for customers. The owner is so rude to their employers, which is very disturbing to look at as a customer.
Sufitza
Service is stellar but you can find better sushi else where. Very "Americanized"

Good Rolls. Sushi Ya has good sushi for a reasonable price. The Spicy Salmon is my favorite!
Jasmine.masse
Delicious. This place is amazing. The rolls are always great and perfect sized. I love the bakudan (any of them), the avocado (Always fresh) , The Yam Tempora Role and inari! One Of my favourite places to go:)
Brusan
Consistently Fresh & Affordable. This is our go-to sushi restaurant because it is always fresh and decently priced. Whether it be take-out or dine-in we are always pleased with the quality and service of this establishment. Other sushi places often leave me feeling queezy but at Sushi Ya this has NEVER been the case. Stick to the simpler rolls and combos to save the most $$$. Some of our faves: M4 Combo, Dynamite Roll, and Scorpion Roll.
Meaganvanaert
10/10. One of my favourite two sushi restaurants in Manitoba! the magma roll is to die for, no other sushi restaurants that i have been to even compare to their spicy sauce- it is amazing. The service is friendly and they are licensed, i LOVE being able to have a caesar with dinner, no other sushi restaurants can do that. The amount of meat in the rolls are pretty good compared to other restaurants as well. The bathrooms are a little skummy but thats the only drawback. I would suggest this restaurant to EVERYONE
Liz Shaw
Nice little place for late night sushi! Classic sushi was good but don't be afraid to try the customer-made combo's. Cory's roll was absolutely delicious. Really great service too.

I love L5, the tempura box lunch special!

Delivery Regular. I order somewhat frequently through mobile maitre'd when I'm stuck at school late, studying. The bakudan, toro nigiri and salmon skin maki are some of my favourites. The spicy sauce on the bakudan is mixed with mayo, which I personally find very delicious. It adds a nice softness to it. The toro nigiri is also some of the best toro I've yet to have in the city. The pieces are usually quite big and fresh tasting. Last time I ordered for delivery they included an extra piece of toro...I think because that week I had ordered from them 3 times, haha. Their prices are pretty good and the quality is consistent. So, thank you Sushi Ya! I look forward to getting through more nights of late studying with delicious sushi.
N-isaryk
My go-to place for sushi. The sushi here is very tasty, and there are lots of options to choose from. I really like the spicy sauce made here.
Allyson Martin
Btw there is no Dairy in mayo. At all. Its perfectly fine for lactose intolerant people to ingest.
Gillian
Not good for lactose intolerant people. I hated it. I go to A LOT of sushi places around the city and this is one of the WORST i've ever been to. Can I get some sushi with my mayo please? Seriously, is there any item on the menu that isn't swimming in mayo? They have spicy sauce, but they ruin it and mix it with mayonnaise. I asked for spicy sauce without the mayo and they said they don't do that. I can't have dairy, so what am I supposed to do?
Secondly, the free edamame would be a bonus, except it's cold. I do not like cold edamame.
I asked for a spicy salmon roll, I got a hand roll... how hard is it to understand that I wanted MAKI not a hand roll.
I'm not biased here, I go for sushi a lot, and I've gone to this place many times. I don't know why I continue to torture myself by going, perhaps because someone I'm with wants to eat there sadly. If it were my choice, I'd choose not to, especially when there are so many better options on the same street.
YUK.
Haplopelma.schmidti
Good food. Great food, no complaints, wouldn't suggest a weekend for a first time try as they are very busy and won't take reservations. Ordering online from them is a good solution for weekends though!
K.Nomfish
Hand-rolls, yum!. I always get the same thing here and never regret it, sunomono salad and a selection of hand rolls. The sunomono is different then any other I've had in the city, but I love their spin on it, the taste is strong just the way I like it. I tried hand rolls here for the first time and love them! perfect size and very tasty with a good crunch to the seaweed still. My friend adores their chicken teriyaki plate too, and often requests we go here for dinner just to satisfy her craving.

The space is small and can be a bit loud but the service is usually pretty good and attentive and the complimentary edamame are a nice tide over while you wait for your food
Jer Christian
Delicious and affordable. I must agree with Nick below me that the spicy mayo here is out of this world!
TD
Best fried tofu ever but.... As suggested by the title, this is literally the best fried tofu I've ever had. It's different from any other sushi place I've tried, with it being served in long stick form and with terryaki sauce to dip in. Aside from that, I was really unimpressed with this place. The free edamame was nice except that it was served cold, which I didn't like. Because I went there after the lunch hour, I wasn't able to get a combo and there weren't any other vegetarian combo options on the menu. I ordered a yam tempura roll and avo/cuc roll and they were seriously tiny. The yam tempura roll was almost $6 and it had just a small slice of yam tempura it in. I was literally shocked about the size of these rolls. Also, the rolls were really cold and felt like they'd been in the fridge before they were served instead of being made with room temperature rice. I would come here again just for the tofu but would leave everything else behind.
Ellenbraun04
So good!. Just love this place. Service is so friendly, its such a relax atmosphere and the sushi is always so so good! Highly recommend it! :)
SJH
Love it!. This is one of my favourite sushi places in Winnipeg. Great atmosphere and wonderful staff. Good prices, great food. They have my favourite take on the spicy salmon roll in Winnipeg! Won't eat it anywhere else. They also have the best shrimp tempura I've found in Winnipeg yet.
Olive Girl
Warm atmosphere. I eat sushi all the time, and this is far from the best place in the city (Yujiro's now that Edohei is closed), but it is consistently good. If you ask what fish is freshest, they will tell you. Plus the service is great--I have never had a bad server, and I've been there about 20 times. I'm a fan of all Korean food, and they have kimchi, which is good but not as good as that you can buy at ING (for Korean food lovers). It's a bit vinegary. But some of the fish is excellent. I have never had bad salmon there, which is saying a lot. Overall, great service and good food.
B-ERock
Does anyone know what they put in the spicy sauce......???
Vanessa
Keeps us Coming Back.. This was the first place I ever ate Sushi. My boyfriend and I are big Sushi lovers. Sushi Ya is our first choice. We have tried other places, but we always regret it, but with Sushi Ya, we are never disappointed. Sometimes the service is a little slow, and a couple servers are very inattentive, but the amazing food just keeps us coming back. Their spicy sauce is by far the best in the city. It is about the same price as most other sushi restaurants, and it is well worth it. We have ordered Take Out a couple times, it is not as great as when you eat in, but still better than most.
A Dryden
My Favorite place in the city. I always go here after trying a few new places because I always get disappointed at the other establishments and for 7 years this place has never failed to meet expectations.
Jessica
Mediocre. The fish on the nigiri is too large, makes for an awkward mouthful. Pollock used instead of real crab (also used in assorted nigiri order, which was really weird looking).
Tamara Hogue
Great service & delicious sushi! Large portions! Great deal $, favorite place for sushi so far, you can't go wrong at Sushiya!
B.M.
Sushi WOW!. I have yet to find a better place for sushi! The sushi is delicious every time. I would eat there every day if I could. Prices, quality, atmosphere and service are excellent.
Melanie
Tasty, excellent service, but a bit over priced.
Annaliese
Definitely my favorite sushi place..their spicy bakudan is the best, good crunch and love the sauce! Can be a little slow on service..but maybe that's cause every time I go everyone at the table orders at least 4 rolls each!
ILoveGoodFood
Nothing Special. We stepped into Sushi Ya on a Saturday evening and we not impressed with the menu items or the prices. We opted to just order one roll each and head to another spot for dinner. I had a california roll and my husband a spicy tuna roll - both were very lackluster. My cali roll was obviously made of fake-crab, which is to be expected. But there was hardly any fake-crab! I wouldn't go back, I was not impressed.
Leahtards
Delish!. First visit to sushi ya was fabulous! tried the spicy sauce and it was super tasty and we got free edamame for dining in which was also a bonus!! will definitely be back :)
Dana Gabrielle
Yummm. Good price, the spicy sauce is to die for. One of my fav sushi places in the city
Dessert Sinsations Staff
Decent food, iffy service. I work on Corydon so I order sushi from Sushi Ya because it is one of the cheaper Japanese restaurants that is close by. The sushi is normally very good, although the rice in the rolls are usually over-vinagered so the rolls have more of a tangy taste. I went here for dinner with a friend not too long ago and ordered a sashimi dinner, which was supposed to come with miso soup and a salad. Not only did the server get the sashimi order wrong, she forgot to give me the soup and salad and I had to ask for it. Despite this, I continue returning because the owner is always friendly and it is conveniently located and priced for decent sushi.

Great.. This is my Favorite sushi place in Winnipeg, Good prices, Good sushi. A
Slowlife999
Ok food. I usually order take out from this restaurant via Mobile Maitre D. It's not cheap but it's reasonable portion of food you get unlike any of the Wasabi restaurants. The one time I actually eat in, the service was slow and the restaurant wasn't even busy.
Food Is Good
Always good. My favorite sushi place. we've tried many different places but so far this one is my #1. the spicy sauce is the best! sometimes the rolls have too much rice on them but usually they are great! i recommend it to anyone who likes sushi! prices are fair, especially during the week when they have their lunch specials!
Lionel Bernhard
First Timer. Sushi Ya was my first attempt at sushi. The food was good but I can't compare it to others because of my lack of experience. However, the waitress was extremely helpful as we made our move to a new adventure.
Megan
I love this place! Almost everytime I am in the area, I pick something up. Try their Winnipeg dream, Winnipeg, and Manitoba rolls. They also have the best spicy tuna hand rolls I'be ever tasted. Would definitely recommend :)
Snoopyinwpg
Sushi YUM. Love the tuna tadaki. Best ive ever had ANYWHERE!
Melodeeee
I remember them being really good so i had decided to come here for a gathering with friends just recently and their food was not up to par as it was 2 years ago. I had ordered a volcano roll and was really disappointed. All the rolls i had ordered tasted like the fast food shops that sold sushi already packaged up and ready to go
Bba
My favourite bakudan rolls!. I don't have any major complaints about this restaurant. They seat you and give you a bowl of edamame beans right away. I honestly think they have the best bakudan rolls ever!!

The service can be slow when they're a little busier, but nothing to the point of completely upsetting me.
D
Used to be good !!. I used to love this place, especially when it first opened, I think it was one of the original places on corydon for sushi. With the rise of sushi in the city I bin a bit disappointed of this place lately, I don't get why they still use pollock instead of real crab like most places, its also very expensive considering there's better quality else were. I find the filling in most rolls to be more like filler, fried flower really, wheres the fish ???
Bananas
Favourite. This is my favourite sushi place in Winnipeg. Decent service, good sushi, pretty good prices.
Steve K
Great restaurant and a friendly atmosphere. Food is of great quality. Highly recommend it to everyone.
Fuur
Only sushi i enjoy. I've been going to sushi ya for well over four years and i've yet to have a bad expirence. each roll is so fresh and rolled perfectly. i've eaten at each sushi place on corydon and dispite what other reviews say this place blows all of them out of the water. if $50 is too much for two to dine then consider not going out or reviewing. you're paying for quality and i swear by this.
Mai
Never again!. I was told by a few friends that this place was so good. Every time I passed by it down Corydon it just never appealed to me. But one night I decided to try it out for some reason and I regret it. The service was rather slow. The sushi was terrible! The sushi rice was way too vinegary! All the rolls were so hard to chew, it all kept sticking to my teeth. Terrible, just terrible! (-__-")
GluttonBros.
Best Spicy Rolls!. The spicy rolls at this restaurant are among the best I have ever had. Spicy Shrimp being my favorite, and spicy salmon or spicy tuna being more cost-efficient alternatives. The spicy mayo is very delicious and has been my sole reason for going to this restaurant. Servers are quite attentive and quite friendly. The chef is also quite friendly. The seating by the window can be extremely frigid in the winter. I am unable to judge the non-spicy rolls as I have not tried them yet.
Prices have risen twice since I began attending but the restaurant usually posts advance notifications of when this occurs.
Laura
Gross martini!. An apple martini is made with vodka, not gin... and definitely isn't supposed to have an olive in it! Gross!

Rolls were tiny, with way more rice than filling. Considering all the sushi restaurants around it, Id suggest going anywhere else.
Anon
Great value! Not the best sushi I've ever had, but it's really tough to complain when the service and prices are great :)
Shawn
Magma roll please!!!
Nick Danzinger
BEST SPICY MAYO EVER. My favorite sushi place for 4 reasons:
1) the spicy mayo they use on many of their rolls. this stuff is AMAZING. no other sushi place has it. it makes their bakudan and any spicy rolls delicious. instead of just adding hot sauce (like many other sushi places) they add the spicy mayo which is the perfect combination of spicy and sweet. The bakudan rolls are also covered in tiny tempura crumbs, another difference when compared to most places.
2) the soya sauce is less salty (possibly watered down) when compared to most places. some people might not like it, but I love it. regular soya sauce is way too salty anyway.
3) the smell, every time I go in I'm hit with this delicious smell. makes my mouth water every time.
4) The rolls are always rolled perfectly. Without a doubt, the sushi chefs behind the counter know their stuff.

As for the negative, I suppose it is a little expensive. But it is still mid-range compared to many of the other overpriced sushi places in Winnipeg. I don't bother eating at any other sushi places now, because none of them make a salmon bakudan roll like sushi ya does.
CC
Above average.. Its not my favourite sushi restaurant, even on this street, but it is pretty good.
Service has usually been pretty absent after taking your order. Though the cold edamame is a nice way to start off the meal.
Mmmtempura
Just too much money!. We pretty much enjoyed our food but when got our bill it was $50, for 2 people. We were shocked and never went back. We can get a good sushi meal for about $35 at other places.
OmNomNom
OH YEAH SUSHI YA!. I like this place... good service good sushi... I love the sushi pizza here you must try it! I've been here many times... I take sushi virgins here all the time and they are hooked
Noah
Lots of food for very good prices. Free soy beans. Nice atmosphere, tho Japanese dance music is different

Give me more....... The sushi is always delicous. The spicy shrimp rolls and the bacudan are so delicous. I could eat them every day. I just wish I lived closer.
Ryan
Delicious and affordable. Check out: spicy tuna rolls, any of their tempura rolls. Tasty miso soup and all at great prices
The Food And Drink Man
Everything was good, some was great but not everything was great. I will definitely go back for another round though, you can count on it!
