Review Wakoya Sushi - Winnipeg

this place is honestly so amazing and super fast with bringing out the food! It’s a good price and always tastes amazing. Staff is so nice!

Good food but a bit pricey and service took about 30 minutes. The parking I'd not as accessible but the vibe was good

Completely and totally unimpressed by their lack of time management. I would give 0 stars if I could. I called at 5 pm this evening to place a take out order for 8 pm, and when my husband went to pick it up, at 8 pm, he waited over 15 minutes, to then be told he would have to wait another 10 minutes for his order. Completely unacceptable and beyond unimpressed. No one should have to wait over 25 minutes for their order, regardless of the situation. Especially when your order is called in earlier in the day. On top of our order be extremely late, they also managed to mess up our order too!! Not to mention how expensive the menu is, and how little you get. This restaurant needs to learn how to better manage their orders and if they are going to be so late with an order, perhaps a discount or something for free would make customers less upset. Needless to say the sushi was not much better than supermarket quality. So disappointed by a place that gets such great reviews. Highly doubt we will ever be returning, so beyond disappointed.

Good was great. If you love sushi then this is your place to visit. THE Korean food is good too.

Good prices for amount and quality of food, especially lunch time specials. Good place to sit down and catch up with some friends. Similar to Naru next door but more of a friendly, chill atmosphere. Would go again for lunchtime sushi

One of my favourite place in the city to get some sushi, also on the plus side they serve excellent Korean food to boot. One of my favourite items has to be their Korean style chicken wings. Atmosphere in the restaurant is very easy going, service can be a but slow at times especially if they're really busy. Overall very good restaurant.

Awesome quiet little sushi restaurant, 10/10 would recommend. Food is great and staff is super friendly and nice.

I recently ordered 4 rolls from here via Skip. I usually curb expectations a bit for delivery food wherever it's from, but this sushi was delicious. I imagine it may be better still if eaten in-restaurant, what with being fresher. Best sushi I've had in Winnipeg so far. Also very affordable compared to other places.

Consistently good sushi.
Always order the party pack.
Service is quick, efficient.
Decor is relaxing and cute.
Price is fair for what you receive.

Stopped in for a quick bite and went for the lunch special. Had 2 regular rolls and a miso or drink for $10. Everything was fresh but I had some basic rolls so I will hopefully come back to get a better idea beyond standard fare. The rolls were as I would have hoped for and service was very good. Miso was good and more seaweed than I would normally which I liked. Just a personal preference. Restaurant itself was nice and clean and prices seemed reasonable.

Wakoya is a nice little place that offers a blend of both Korean and Sushi options, went over for lunch a few times and ordered them thru SkiptheDishes. Lunch service was fairly good, not a very busy place and the waiter came by to refill our waters a couple of times. The food is decent, it doesn't have the best Korean food in town nor the best sushi rolls but its convenient to have both options on the menu. Their Korean spicy chicken wings are a consistent favorite of mine, you get 12 pieces, they are crispy fried with a sticky, finger licking good sauce.

Great atmosphere and service, sushi was fresh and presented well. Reasonably priced, the sweet mango roll is recommended! Great date spot!

The food here was average. Ordered the tofu which was good. We then ordered 2 Korean dishes - a tofu and a pork bone soup. Both our broths were steaming hot and difficult to eat. It only became enjoyable 20 mins later once it wasn't overly hot. Overall it was ok and I've had better pork bone soup elsewhere. Service was ok - only saw the server when we arrived and left.

Joined my friend and her boyfriend for lunch. The Lunch special was decent in size and price started off at $10 for the bento. Sushi was simple and great and didn't have too much rice. The ratio of rice to ingredients inside were proportionate. Being it's down Osborne, parking was a hassle. Roomy place and great service. Would come again!

Very decent food. Sushi is a bit overpriced for what you get. We ordered the rainbow roll which was $13 but it was small compared to other sushi places that we've tried.

They have very reasonably priced lunch specials. The bento box with dynamite roll and California is only $10.

We stopped by on July 2 during the street festival. Food is great. Assorted Tempura, volcano and Mystery roll. Excellent service, and enjoyable meal. We will be back.

Dear Wakoya,
Stop putting hot chili sauce on everything!
Way to ruin a spider roll.
Korean dishes are pretty good.

Great sushi, but I had terribly slow service, I kept having to ask for other servers to help me. It seems that they need to organize their waitresses because it seems they all go everywhere, but like i said I would recommend the food, but its better service on a less busy time :)

Delicious Sushi, Cozy Atmosphere & Friendly Staff/Service in Osborne Village!

My brother and I visited Wakoya Sushi for dinner on the evening of February 2nd.

Wakoya Sushi is a Japanese sushi restaurant located in the heart of Osborne Village and serving a fantastic selection of Japanese-inspired appetizers, meals and sushi rolls. The menu was extensive which made it difficult for me to choose what to order (all the more reason to return again and try more)! They had excellent vegetarian options as well.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, modern and chic, from the wood-grain tables and booths to the simple and beautiful artwork hanging on the walls to the colour scheme. It was very cozy, comfortable and welcoming.

I ordered the California, Veggie Garden and Avocado Cream Cheese sushi rolls. All three rolls tasted absolutely delicious and very fresh.

Our server was super friendly and professional and she re-filled our water glasses and made sure we were doing okay a few times throughout our meal. Overall, the service was excellent!

I would not hesitate to recommend Wakoya Sushi to others, and I look forward to returning here soon to sample more of their menu!

We are pretty easy to impress but our experience at this restaurant was disappointing. The food they serve definitely doesn't look like the pictures they post online, everything tasted very half-assed. They charge 10.99 for a bowl of soup that looks / tastes like instant ramen out of a bag & the beef lettuce wraps that sounded very impressive on the menu - we didn't get any "grilled beef slices", it was more like a plate of dry mystery meat bits. If you're looking for good Korean food go to Kimbaek, we didn't have any sushi so can't critique the Japanese menu.

Instant noodle ramen! I paid $10+ for instant noodle ramen noodles! Very disappointed. Will not come here again. Do not advise anyone to go!

Tasty sushi, solid prices, and large vegetarian selection will bring me back again. Nice atmosphere sitting by the window in the evening with the same friendly service I expect from most Winnipeg sushi joints.

Amazing sushi! So many options for vegetarians too! I recommend veggie backudan, the asparagus roll, backudan with salmon, dynamite, giant pieces of a avacado in the avacado roll, absolutely love all of their sushi!

It was actually surprisingly good. I was walking around Osborne and felt the need for sushi. I had their dynamite roll with a side order of seaweed salad and my friend had the bulgogi they were both great but it was a bit expensive. I will come back for more

The rice was frozen and all the food we ordered literally had no flavor. However we came here to eat on Canada Day so probably the food isn't that bad normally. Service was terrible I must say, they forgot to bring us utensil and soy sauce and it took them forever to give us our bills. I go to Osborne Village for lunch every year on Canada Day but this is the first time I receive a such a bad service.

We dined here on Thursday July 2 for lunch. Our favourite place, Naru, was closed till 4pm so we found this place. The menu looked great and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately the flavor was just okay. It was good sushi, just not the burst of flavors we get from Naru. It's decent sushi, just not anhere near the best in town. Service was nice and the restaurant appeared clean.

Love this place! The atmosphere is really comfortable. The staff are all nice. The food is great too. You gotta try their Kimchi Ramen here, it's my comfort food. Also love their Kimchi fried rice ^^

Decent food and not so badly priced compared to other sushi places in the village. I had their hye dup bap (spicy sashimi rice bowl - a Korean dish) - it's good, but if you are hungry you are better off ordering an extra roll or an appetizer. Their rolls are pretty good, albeit small, it's tasty.

Service is super friendly, prompt, and the ambiance is clean and sleek. Hopefully this place does not succumb to the curse ... every restaurant that situates itself in that corner of Osborne is promptly closed months later.

I specifically came here just to try their Osaka style okonomiyaki ($9.99), as it's one of my favourite Japanese dishes.

Not a lot of Japanese restaurants in the city have okonomiyaki on their menu. I loved the okonomiyaki that was at the restaurant on Osborne, prior to it becoming Naru Sushi, and also from Asahi, which has also since closed, so when I discovered that Wakoya also had it, I knew I had to go try it out. Also, unlike other places that serves it, this is probably the first time I've seen it with a bed of yakisoba noodles. Aside from the noodles, it also contains cabbage, bacon, shrimp, squid, katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), green onion, kewpie mayo and okonomiyaki sauce.

The Okonomiyaki was huge and you could definitely get full from it, as I was almost unable to finish it. If you'd like to try other dishes, I'd recommend getting it to share with others. It was really quite delicious, and would return again to satisfy my cravings for it.

I've had nothing but Korean food in this spacious, clean, modern-looking place, and it's been excellent every time.

The bibimbap is awesome, as is the kimchi ramen.

It's one of our favorite spots for Korean.

Frozen Sashimi. It took about half an hour for our dinner to be served to us, and I couldn't figure out why, until it got to us: my husband and I had ordered the medium Sashimi plate, and 3 different nigiri, and when we were finally served, some of the Sashimi pieces were still frozen in the middle. Our glasses were empty for quite some time as well.
For the price, it should be much better. I will not be returning.

The size of the rolls were perfect, as well as the rice-filling ratio. Although, the sauce (teriyaki sauce) that they put on the rolls were bland and lacking in taste.

Very good Japanese and Korean food.. I have enjoyed the food every time I have gone there. Selection is broad and will have to go many times to sample the spectrum.

Wakoya sushi review. Favorite sushi restaurant by far!! great services and awesome food.....!

Nope. I want to be charitable, but I can't. Service was friendly, but slow. The Korean chocken wings weren't bad, but that was the highlight. The Summer roll was nothing like pictured on the menu, was cold and had an unpleasant off taste. At least they took it off the bill. Wine and beer only, and only two kinds of white wine at that. Expensive for the portions. Too many excellent sushi restaurants in this town to waste your time here.

Always great experience!. I seriously love coming here. 95% of the time, I get served by same waitress when I eat and she is freaking awesome. She seems to know my usual order but she not only knows my order but she always recommend me to try something more exotic (still within my range) even though I usually stick to my order. But recently I tried sakana special roll and I was blown away!! I usually get something with tuna, salmon and crab but sakana has all of them!!!! Food is always great, awesome vibe, and hands down the greatest tasting sushi in the village. I love coming here and will continue!

Altogether Wakoya delivered serviceable flavourful Korean and Japanese cuisine. While their rolls and soups were not up to par with the best in the city, there is enough here to satisfy most people in the mood for sushi or Korean.

So disappointing came here and waited 30 minutes to place the order then another 30 minutes for the order.
The waitress seems doesnt care at all.,
This is gonna be the last time im going here., the waitress seems looking were she get more money in tip..
She didnt even offer us a drink she just took order and gave us the wrong order!!! This is so ridicolous!!!!

Excellent vibe, good food and great value. Over the years, this particular restaurant space has seen a steady parade of failures. So when we saw last year that a new sushi restaurant was opening there, frankly we assumed it too would be an also-ran.

Well, we're thrilled to be wrong on that count. Went to Wakoya last night and were thrilled. The room is beautiful, nicely designed with a modern but relaxed vibe -- somewhere that you definitely felt comfortable enough to chill out, enjoy some sushi and some glasses of sake or wine. The menu had much to satisfy, including a robust selection of vegan and vegetarian items, and a server who was savvy enough on that point to let us know that the table soy sauce contained dashi.

All of the rolls and appetizers we had were tasty and well-made, and we were very happy with the value -- a meal that would typically run about $85 at some other establishments cost us $70. Our server, who seemed to be the only person running the front of the house on a moderately busy night, was very friendly and did a heroic job balancing a lot of tables and assorted duties. We're looking forward to going back -- definitely our favourite experience of the four sushi restaurants in the Village.

Fun!. Had a great time with my friends here! Good food and very friendly staff! Would def come back!

LOVE everything about it. Great service, great food, great energy in the entire restaurant. I feel like this place needs to be advertised more, because every time I pass by, not too many people are inside. PLEASE keep this place alive!!!! Great prices for some of the best sushi in Winnipeg.

Best sushi in the village now. Very happy this place opened. My wife and I have been twice now and we will be back many more times. The Gyoza is second to none and the veggie bakudan is a great vegetarian dish.

We had a wonderful time!!!. As a Ramen fan, it has always been my mission to find a good ramen place in Winnipeg. My favourite in Canada is Ramen Jinya in Vancouver. I have had the ramen from this place for takeout a few times and it was always good.

Last night, however, my girlfriend and I decided to dine in.

We had one of the best experiences ever in Winnipeg. The decor was beautiful and very very cosy (although we could recognize Ikea items everywhere).

We ordered 3 rolls of sushi and Kimchi Ramen for dinner. The ramen was phenomenal. I like my food spicy and the chef really made sure that he caters my needs. I was sweating profusely by the end of it. The flavours were amazing and the ramen comes with a side of california roll. What a great idea.
The sushi was excellent as well. For dessert, we had the green tea ice cream. Along with half litre of wine (ONLY $12), our total bill came to about $41.

I would highly recommend this place to everyone. I was craving the ramen for breakfast this morning. It was THAT good.

Really, really good. Pleasant surprise!. I hadn't heard of Wakoya Sushi until I attended a Christmas party for a colleague over the holidays. We left very full and very impressed. The food is excellent, the service is super friendly, and the decor is fresh, clean and modern. Upon a subsequent visit my dining companion noted that the sushi was "Wasabi quality but Osborne Village prices" and I think that's a pretty apt assessment. Everything is hot and fresh, and there are some great dishes that we haven't found on the menus at other sushi restaurants. This may just be our new favourite place for sushi!

Excellent!. Excellent customer service!
Lovely atmosphere! And above all, the sushi was very filling. The appetizers and the special rolls were very unique.

Alright. The food was alright, but the service was extremely slow and it wasn't that busy in the restaurant.

Impressed. I'm really picky about sushi rice and barely any restaurants impress me when it comes to it. I also like that the rolls aren't all just rice. I really like all the decor and how the restaurant is set up. The waitress is really pleasant. Food is fast. Definitely one of my new go-to sushi places. Plus they have this korean dish called haedup bap which is one of my favourites. Since the Korean/Sushi place on Corydon closed I haven't found this dish anywhere else! So glad I have a place to get it again. :3

Avocado and Avocado Q Rolls. (Vegan). Pretty good.

Great! Very tasty and good price. I appreciated the complimentary edamame, and the soup, salad and tempura that came with my combo dinner were great. The ice cream that was included at the end was a generous scoop, and came with a chocolate pirouline and a dash of whipped cream. I will definitely be back.
