Came here for lunch with some colleagues and decided to get a bunch of items to share family style. This restaurant is conveniently located in a prime spot on Corydon. They have an awesome patio for the summer months while the dining room is well decorated and a nice size.
Service is sometimes hit and miss at this place, especially during lunch. For some reason, there is only one waitress and often, she is running between the patio and dining room and not only waits tables, but is cashier as well! I clearly remembered one time where we ordered their breadsticks (which are very good, and even better with some marinara sauce). When we asked the waitress for some sauce, it took so long, that we basically finished all of them before it came...
Food at Colosseo is rock solid. Their pizza is great, salads are fresh and well dressed and their appetizers are generously portioned. During our visit, the kitchen had our food out in amazing time. The best part about Colosseo's kitchen is their consistency. I've been coming here routinely over the past few years and the food is bang on every time!
I always order the gluten free pizza with spinach and ricotta cheese, it's always amazing. Service is good. My husband always gets the linguine de mare (not gluten free) and he loves it.
My grandma has taken us here for years and we love the 'special' for pizza and almost always start off with an order of calamari, muscles, or a Greek salad. They have great options for pasta too
One of our favourite restaurants! Been here many times and I am never disappointed with staff, service or the food. I've had everything from pizza to appetizers to main dishes and pastas and they were all delish!
Definitely among the top spots on Corydon. Love the patio. The food is great, as is the service. Highly recommend this if you are in the mood for Italian. The sangria is pretty awesome too.
Some of the best Italian food in Winnipeg. A little on the pricier side, but they make up for it in both quality and portion size - you'll be taking some home. Excellent pasta, plus a huge variety... Great wine list, pizza, and wine by the glass is filled to the brim.
Great great atmosphere. Very cozy little place with great service. The Italian food was forsure not very authentic. Not one of my first choices food wise but nice little place.
Excellent meal and service!!! The pizza is to die for... One of the best in the city. I had the seafood pasta with the olive oil and garlic sauce and it was amazing. The portion sizes are huge so make sure you go hungry. Everyone at our table was happy with their meals! Will be going back!
This is a restaurant I come back to again and again. I've never had a bad experience here. The food is well-seasoned and tasty, the service is good, and portions are generous (including wine portions- bonus!). You can never go wrong with the pizza or pasta- the mussels are always good too.
If you come in the summer, definitely sit on the patio. The interior is cute and comfortable, but the patio is perfect for taking in Corydon in the summer. Definitely the best patio option on that section of Corydon. You don't have to sacrifice good service and food to sit outside!!
Never had a bad meal here! Scalloped were awesome. Vegetable soup was the best i ever had. Totally homemade. We could see last night there were alot of regulars in tue restaurant which says alot. Will definitely go back again
Our friend took us here as he used to eat here when he worked in the city. Now he has moved out of the city he misses this place so much. They serve fabulous Eastern European food and their pizzas are fantastic..,
I got the fettuccine carbonara and asked them if they could make it with a cream sauce instead of the oil sauce it came with. It was sooo good and such a big portion so I could take it home and have leftovers. I haven't tried any of them but they have so many soups on the menu which appeals to me so much rather than a restaurant that just has one "soup of the day" listed. The dining area inside is very old traditional Italian decor but the patio looks nice. I want to go back again.

Been here a couple times, salads are pretty good. Service was quick and friendly and patio seating is nice. Decor could use an update on the inside.
Great pizza, cheese heavy, great crust, and definitely is a must try.
Ordered takeout the other night and the woman at cash was so rude. Not sure if she was having a rough night, but it was unfortunate that she took it out on me.
Would love to come back for dinner though, or more take out pizza!
SwizzleStyx. Our group had lunch here on Thursday and we had a fantastic time with good food and great service. We dined on cannelloni, calamari and feta salad and a pizza and all were very good with generous portions. The service was excellent and friendly. We had a great time here and were very satisfied overall, we'll be back hopefully on a nice patio day!
August 2016 - The Swizzle Styx dined here again and finally got a nice patio day :)
Our server was outstanding even though she was super busy. The food was great as well, we had salads, pasta, chicken parmesan, cheese toast and shrimp and everything was excellent. This place always stays on our list of "go to" spots.

Saturday Sept 6 2014. We went to this restaurant, on the suggestion of a friend, and I find myself torn on how to rate the restaurant.
When we arrived there was no one at the front to seat us, 3 different members of the wait staff spoke with us but in the end we were told to wait until the hostess returned. There was no hello, no welcome to the Restaurant, just a very abrupt how may I help you. I explained that when I had called the day before I was told a reservation was required, but upon speaking with the wait staff they told me that I should have made a reservation. Fair enough, I should have insisted on making a reservation.so I can accept responsibility for that. However the hostess just grabbed two menus and made a this way sort of noise and we were seated.
The waitress we had was very nice, she was polite and friendly. The service we received from her was pretty good, the restaurant was busy and we got our beverages and food in good order.
The food was good, lots of flavour and very filling. Portion size seems to tend toward the large end of the spectrum.
So in the end after a very rocky start to the visit I would say that we would give the Colosseo Ristorante a thumbs up. But make sure to make a reservation to avoid getting less than spectacular treatment from the hostess.

We went there for Valentines day and really enjoyed the atmosphere and experience.It was really busy so the server was a bit slow with the good.Both the minestrone and chicken noodle soup were great! The pasta was good but nothing exceptional.Looking forward to trying the pizzas next time!
Great Pizza. I've never dined inside, but tried their pizza as take-out last night and I was impressed. The crust was still "thick" but not doughy/gluey and it tasted fresh and had a nice bread-like-chew with a crisp outside. While the sauce was very minimal, it was very fragrant with fresh herbs and complimented the ratio of the toppings. In addition: the toppings were excellent quality and I will certainly order them again!
Impressed With The Take Out. Read the reviews on here and decided I had to try it for myself. I ordered the linguini carbonara and the veal stuffed with shrimp. Omg, This is the best pasta I've had in Winnipeg hands down. The carbonara at least. The spaghetti that came with the veal was kinda over done but the veal and shrimp and the sauce it was in was amazing. I eat allot, I guess I'm sort of a foodie, and let me tell you. this is worth the money. My take out bag was so heavy on the walk home, i seriously think i have like 4 pounds of food. The salad dressing was delish! and a good portion mind you. I would suggest it highly, my food only took 30 min and was hot and fresh when i went to pick it up. The staff was quick to get my order from the back too. I would recommend for sure. :)
*NOM NOM NOM...*. Used to work there as a skilled dishwasher for 6 months. No one understood a single freakin' word I ever said!!!! The only reason I stood there for that long was because the blonde receptionist/owner (though i suspect she's a natural brunette) reminded me of my daughter back home.

Not the same. I used to work at Colosseo as a cook in the 90s. I recall that most of the food items were amazing, especially the pizza. For the first time in a about a decade I tried the calamari and Colosseo special pizza. The calamari was spot on. Decent sized rings and lightly battered but it was served with seafood cocktail sauce - odd pairing. The toppings on the pizza were plentiful but lacking the unique tangy sauce I once remembered in the 90s. The server seemed preoccupied and did not go out of her way. Maybe I'll return in another ten years....
Enjoyed our night out. My boyfriend had the lasanya, big portion, very meaty and rich, I had the baked hot Italian sausage with cheese, lots of meat also.. Fresh buns comes with it. Cozy atmosphere, lots of food left for a snack for later.
Colosseo is top notch!. We took our daughter here for her 5th Birthday, the service was very warm and friendly, they sat us on the patio because the restaurant was full but said they would have a table for us inside right away if we wanted. We stayed on the patio because it was so nice out, they made sure the kids were warm so they brought out patio heaters even though we didn't need them. The service was very prompt we ordered calamari and a large Mediterranean Salad it was out in 10 minutes and very good, then as soon as we were done that out came our fresh from the oven pizza it was delicious! They were very attentive there was someone out every couple of minutes seeing if we needed anything and the food was very good, a great place to dine! The inside was very romantic with it's dime lighting and cozy tables.
Food was good, a little expensive though. $25.00 for a medium pizza. I don't like the tables close to the entrance where you pay your bill.
Recently went with the boyfriend. And we thought it was . Shared all our dishes which were the eggplant appetizer, the caprese salad, and the nocci entrees. Washed down with their sangria and ended with their tiramisu. We enjoyed the outdoor experience. This place was definitely meant to just relax and enjoy a piece of Italy while sipping on a cocktail or even a glass of wine. Now I went when it was slow (just before dinner rush) so our service in the beginning went great. If you're going to just go there for a pizza and you're only used to the typical delivery...don't eat here..you're just being a goofball if you're expecting a pizza hut chef to be on the kitchen. However I will say I detected a bit of staleness from my chocolate pieces from my tiramisu. I'll be going again .

Favorite little Italy dining experience complete with cramped interior design, but classy atmosphere.
Pricey, but worth it. We were hooked from our first visit: Our waitress was over enthusiastic and talkative, which we enjoy character in our service. Had some drinks, enjoyed some cheese bread, and talked while we waited for our food. The service was prompt, the food was fresh and every simple dining gesture takin care of, But the thing that got us was THE FOOD! I ordered the seafood cannelloni, my wife ordered the chicken parmagan. The chicken parmagan was excellently done and flavored as well, which was a pleasurable surprise considering 9/10 places overcook a cheap cutlet to shoe leather, swim it in a bland sauce and hide it under some low grade parmagan. This was exquisite.
One bite of the cannelloni and I knew I had found the meaning to life. Quite easily the best meal I have had in my life, no exaggeration. Excellently spiced cream sauce with a liqourice under tone, over a genorous helping of seafood stuffed cannelloni with slices of fish between each roll. I'm no cook or review connoisseur, which I wish I was to enable me to give this review true justice, but to this day I have yet to exerience a more awe inspiring moment of perfect flavor.

Fantastic. I went to Colosseo recently and really enjoyed the atmosphere, the service was a tad slower but you have to realize this isn't a chain restaurant where your food will be out within minutes. Pizza was great and the mussels AMAZING!!! Will definitely be going back.
Good main dish. Wilted discolored lettuce in both our salads. Decent house red. Priced ok. Great outdoor patio in summer.
Always great food and atmoshere. Service, however is slow, inconsistant and ona couple occasions simply bad. If they could only get the service issue in-line, this could be a 4 star restaurant
Excellent decor, ancient roman theme. Pasta, pizza, chicken and veal seem to be the specialties. I had the linguine with black tiger shrimp and green onions with brandied cream sauce. Delicious. Waitress was knowledgeable about the food. Service was quick although it wasn't too busy on a monday night. I would definitely return. I also recommend the pizza for take-out.
Hit and miss food. I think it really depends who is in the kitchen that night. But consistently the service is terrible. Pizza is decent though.
Have I been lucky?. From other reviews, it seems I've either had good luck or have been ordering the right things! I've only ever had success with Colosseo's entrees. I typically focus on the seafood pasta options, such as the pickerel and seafood pasta in cream sauce or the curry creme sauce shrimp pasta, and always leave satisfied. This means the things I'm ordering are definitely not traditional Italian, however the friend I typically go there with always orders the spaghetti and meat balls, and is always please with her food too.
I must admit the calamari is always terrible at Colosseo though. It's clearly frozen, not fresh, and tastes like rubber bands dipped in ketchup
Delicious Dinners. My husband and I have been coming here since 2004...so for 6 years now. Almost every anniversary we go here. I love the Chicken Principessa. The massive amounts of angel hair pasta loaded with their delicious Rose sauce, asparagus on the side and breaded chicken breasts atop this mountain of yumminess. To start, you of course get warm bread and butter with a starter salad. Soo good!
Pretty good. Not exactly cheap, not exactly traditional, but tasty nonetheless.
The Specialist. A lot of the reviews of Colloseo are negative. And it can be good one night and off the next, This is true to certain extent. They can get really busy and that contributes to some chaos in the kitchen. But the pizza here is my favorite in the city. To me, when ordered in the SMALL size, is the perfect pizza, and the simpler the better. This place has changed a number of times in the 30 years I've been eating pizza here. The current rendition serves a wicked pizza. A simple beef and mushroom or even a plain double cheese in the small size is just heavenly. The salad's are on the bland side, and are only a millimeter away from being great, with a little more effort. The calamari is alright and really, so are most items on the menu. Add to this, the location and the outdoor patio (very nice), this venue provides an exceptional dining experience. I like this place, and treat as a "specialist" restaurant.
Great place. Mostly for couples though,which is fine. Quiet and intimate. Good food espically the pissa. Also great service. This is one of me and my boyfriends faviorate places.

Incredible service! Food came out fast and server was very attentive despite it being busy. Seating inside is very comfortable and some booths are private if you want a more intimate experience. Food is great and exactly what you would like expect from a family owned Italian restaurant. I had seafood pasta, calamari and bruschetta. The pasta was delicious and the seafood wasn’t’ overly fishy tasting. Their version of bruschetta is more of a cheese toast and very filling. The calamari was OK and lightly breaded and a little rubbery. Maybe it was cooked too quick. I would of also liked tzatziki to be included. Overall it was a great experience and I can see why they are so popular.
Lovely dining experience at this restaurant. The decor is unique and interesting - feels like you might be in Italy. We had Gnocchi alla Sorrento with mozzarella and parmigiano cheeses; Pollo alla Fiorentina - chicken stuffed with spinach and feta cheese with spaghetti, and Pollo alla Principesa - chicken with mushrooms, asparagus and mozzarella on spaghetti. Really great combinations of ingredients in all our meals. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. The plates were quite large and 2 of us had enough to take home afterwards. It was our first time at this restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive and personable. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone that enjoys a great Italian meal. Lots of menu options from pizza, pasta, entrees, seafood, salads and appetizers. They also had an extensive wine list, cocktails, liquers, aperitifs, digestifs, specialty coffees and beers. Parking is available on Corydon and the side streets in this great neighborhood.
Solid local Italian restaurant on Corydon Avenue. With an outdoor patio. We went out on a Saturday night, packed place. Food was large portions. Friday sounds easier to make a reservation. No electronic reservation system, old fashion phone call to reserve. Have had meals here in the past, solid consistent food just not memorable. Lots of regulars love the owners and place.

We hadn’t tried in 10 years. This was easily the best Italian gravy in Winnipeg aka red sauce. The chicken parm was amazing and the spaghetti with tomato sauce was amazing. The tortellini with Alfredo was soupy but amazing. The pasta with veggies and sausage was very oily and not the winner here. We are excited to return and try everything. Will update my review. Also calamari looks like onion rings. I prefer cute up and imperfect shapes and pieces. .
Going here for lunch was a great experience. The portions were huge and I ended up taking my pasta home. The pina colada was not as sweet as I would have liked but with how hot it was, I didn't mind. Evrrything taste delicious and fresh. The service was also wonderful. Our water was constantly refilled without having to ask and our waitress checked to make sure we enjoyed the food.I docked a point for just some insignificant things. We sat outside because tables inside had been reserved. However the insects outside were crazy. I agree they can't control insects but that made my visit slightly uncomfortable. Overall, I would definitely go again.

We got Calamari fritti and breadsticks for starters. The bread was steaming hot when it was served to us. The calamari was light and good. Just not sure if ketchup is what Italians serve for the dipping sauce. Still, it was good. For the pasta we got Linguine al Vongole and Linguine Conca d’Oro. Their 1 serving of pasta can actually be shared for two persons. It was really delicious especially the Linguin al Vongole.
The ambiance of the restaurant is nice too. This is the best Pasta or Italian restaurant I’ve been so far.
