We will be back for more! You can go to Lovey's and eat in, take out, or order for delivery. They are open from 11-2 and 4-9 weekdays, except Monday, and from 4-9/8 Saturdays and Sundays.
I went to Lovey's for the first time last night, at the request of The Carnivore. The menu looked enticing.
The Carnivore had been dreaming about their Pulled Pork Terminator Burger all day. He was definitely pleased. It was huge; loaded with pork and topped with bacon, cheese and slaw. Big bites were efficient, but a fork was in order to get all of the deliciousness. Fries were added to the meal. The portion was generous. Everything was hot and tasty, and served with a smile.
The Vegetarian (That's me!) had the salad. All ingredients were crisp and fresh. I was impressed.
I couldn't resist the Pigtail Fries. They came in a very generous portion. Dubbed as "like potato chips but served hot", they were much better than that! They were curly, likely made with those spiral slicers. One long, wide curl can go on forever. Deep fried and salted, they were crispy and delicious; so good that I largely ignored my salad, and brought leftovers home.
Besides the BBQ, they serve some interesting soft drinks, eg. Birch beer. (Alcoholic beverages are also available.)
I enjoyed the diner ambiance and the genuine friendliness. The staff at Lovey's was great. We really felt like valued customers.
We will definitely return. I can't wait for more Pigtail Fries!
My husband and I frequent this restaurant and have had nothing but great food and great service. The owner and his family/staff are friendly and professional and know our orders when we walk in the door. Their prices are competitive with the majority of higher grade BBQ places. The food is fabulous and in my opinion, it's the best BBQ in Canada. We bring all our friends who visit from out of town here. Definitely worth stopping in.
Best BBQ in the city.. always good ..pork, been, or burgers coleslaw was great and the beans are like you are in Texas. Poutine was great. Service is goood. Wish it was open more so that we could go there for lunch.
Love their food, never had it in the restaurant always get it for take out. The banana pudding is amazing. The pulled pork is great, I've never had chunks of straight fat that I seem to always get every other bbq place, so for me lovey's is the best for pulled pork.
Food is decent but service is always rude. They don't allow substitutions at all which is ridiculous. I don't like their potato salad and would've liked fries or something else even with an up charge but the girl at the register snapped with an attitude stating no subs.
The BBQ wings are smoked so don't order if you like crunchy wings. Their brisket, ribs, and pulled pork are your best options. Garlic fries are good.
VERY good mac & cheese and burnt ends. The burger was also pretty good. I was a little upset one of our drinks was missed but that was mostly how it was handled by skip-the-dishes. I would definitely come back with my family to try a bbq dinner. :)

Our bosses at work had bought the office lunch last week from Loveys. My was I excited! We got the pulled pork, brisket, coleslaw and potato salad with a side of pickles and bbq sauce on the side. The pulled pork was amazing as always, and the brisket was good. The potato salad was great but I didn't have any room left for coleslaw-didn't want a supper tummy at work. Great bbq sauce. Highly recommend when needing your bbq fix.

Went here yesterday August 16th at 4:30, waitress with dark hair was unfriendly and seemed to hate being there. My date an I ordered the share platter for 2, you get a rack of ribs, half bbq chicken and pulled pork or brisket with coleslaw, beans, potato salad or fries and cornbread. We went with the pulled pork and potato salad. The best part of the meal was the beans potato salad and corn bread, the sides were very tasty and were homemade. The ribs were very dry and hard, some parts were inedible because they were so tough. The chicken was good. The pulled pork was pretty amazing. Will go here again to try different options, specifically to have the beans, soo good! The sad part was that the ribs were so disappointing.
First time going to Lovey's and it was awesome!!!! Will defiantly be going back again and again!! Had the pulled brisket and burnt ends with garlic fries and tried the deep fried pickles too. It was all soo yummy! I am so full and it was so good!!!! Happy we tried out this place!!
Wish I'd followed my instinct and stopped here much sooner. Traditional BBQ foods, many choices. Not fancy but clean and decorated fittingly for a BBQ joint. Everything was delicious. My new go to place for BBQ.

Amazing BBQ and fantastic wings on wing nights!. We met up with our dinner group last night and tried Lovey's BBQ for the first time. Well, for the first time in the restaurant itself - my boyfriend and I have ordered take out as well as visiting their food truck in the summers. Yes it was a little disorganized at first (they got a new POS system installed) but both the owner and staff did their best to make sure we got it all right. To all the reviewers talking about a rude owner, taste/quality having gone downhill, and prices being too high...I don't know what restaurant you actually went to...but it wasn't THIS Lovey's!! We all shared the Voyageur Platter, as well as ordering 35 wings (smoked, not deep fried - we got Garlic Parmesan (ok), Original (better), and the Spicy (best IMO)), and my BF got deep fried pickles to take home (that was the only error - they gave his pickles away to another table by accident, but I told him that was his bad for ordering one item on it's own, plus the staff hustled to get it ready as soon as he pointed out the mistake). EVERYTHING was delicious - we went with fries (homemade and just the right texture - to the person who said the fries were frozen, what fries did YOU eat?) as well as the beef brisket (perfectly cooked, again not at all the way a past reviewer described it) for our choices. We all agreed the BBQ taste and smoky flavor meant they didn't have to glob on sauce to make it taste like BBQ (though the sauces you can get from the pumps were great). One co-diner said "this is better than Famous Dave's" and I had a hard time arguing with him (even though I like FD myself and will still go there as well). The owner was wonderful, and even gave us a coupon for $5.00's off for our next visit. Couldn't have been happier with our dining choice, and thanks again for a wonderful meal - we WILL be back :)
Only for the barbecue.... This is the first time for Lovey's. I've heard good things over the years, but my husband spent a lot of time in the US, in places known for their barbecue, so I stayed away from the possibility of disappointment.
This was a delivery via Skip the Dishes so I can't comment on the restaurant but the barbecue was better than I expected and my connoisseur thoroughly enjoyed the ribs, brisket and burnt ends as well as the fries. I would say the meat is wonderful, the fries too limp for me, the gravy flat, the potato salad marginal and the beans unimpressive. The onion rings were ghastly.
Overall the meal experience deserved an "average" rating but the meat, the purpose of the restaurant, came through.
You can order the meat by the pound, so give them a call and pick it up, or have it delivered by Skip the dishes, put it with your own fixins' and you'll be delighted!

The meal was really good! The pit beans are amazing and the ribs were falling apart nicely. The owner came and spoke with us and e was super nice. Would definitely go again.
Best Bar-B-Q in town. Finally got to this joint and WOW, best in town by far!!! I've been to the other bar-b-q places in the city and even out to Busters in Vermillion Bay and Lovey's is right up there with Busters. The food had a freshness to it that the other places cant achieve. I had the brisket and chicken with beans and fries while my wife had the poutine and terminator burger. Awesome!! My wife couldn't even finish 1/2 of her burger it was probably the best burger in Winnipeg hands down. I love the décor of this place it just has a warm feeling to it. We will definitely be back. Terminator 2 Burger is gooood. Had the "not on the menu yet" Terminator with beef brisket burger. Darn good. You need to make a bib out that paper towel they have on the table first. Homemade ice tea is a nice change from fountain drinks. I will have to go sometime when I can try the "pig spittle lager".
Lovey's is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is amazing, flavorful and authentic. I have spent time in the south and this is just like a BBQ place I would go to there, right down to the pay first routine. Just because its not a common practice here in Winnipeg doesn't mean it's wrong. I've always found the owner and staff to be friendly and appreciative of my business.
I'm eating loveys right now. I frequent this resturant and I find the smokey flavor to be tasty. If you want boiled ribs smothered in sauce go to mr romas. Wings were good (also smoked) Smoking the meat tastes different and has a different texture. But I like that. The corn bread was moist and flavorful.
I've been many times to lovey's and my husband, daughter and I love it. Great food, nice atmosphere and the staff is always pleasant and helpful with suggestions. I've tried other BBQ places and defiantly prefer Lovey's. I haven't been to very many restaurants were the owner comes out to see how your enjoying your meal. I will be back again!!

I find this to be really hit and miss. The pulled pork has ALWAYS been a hit. tender but not mushy and not overly salty like Famous Dave's (which is chopped and horribly salty!). The ribs, unfortunately are often put on the BBQ too long. There have been times when I have wondered how many times the ribs were reheated. If you get there nice and early for dinner the food is almost always excellent. The only thing that is horrible is the coleslaw. it's as if they just dumped it out of a bag and threw some oil and vinegar on it. bletch. the fries are amazing. the chicken is better than woody's but (as usual in any restaurant) overdone. The owner has always been nice to me when I come in so I don't understand why so many people have a problem with him? When one of the staff asked how everything was (since it came out in multiple pieces/orders) I told her the ribs were inedible. Roger (the owner) IMMEDIATELY came to appologise for this and offered me to replace them free of charge. this was BEFORE he had competition. If you want REAL BBQ you can hire someone like Tailgatorz. THAT is good BBQ. Still rank this above Famous Dave's.

Love BBQ? Try Lovey's. I just got back from my first time at Lovey's. I went with my Dad and daughter. What a nice little restaurant. I ordered a combo platter...Pulled pork, beef brisket, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans and cornbread. Decided to try their Hog Spit Lager. It was a good beer. My Dad ordered a combo but with pork and BBQ chicken. Daughter ordered BBQ poutine and the crispy chicken sandwich. The food was delicious!! I like a little more BBQ sauce on my pulled pork so I just added more from their BBQ sauce dispenser. The meat was tender and juicy. The potato salad and coleslaw was nice. I even enjoyed the baked beans even though I'm not usually a baked bean eater. I tried the beans anyways, since they come with the dinners. What flavor! I was impressed. Dad enjoyed his food and my daughter said the poutine was one of her favorite poutines now. We didn't quite realize that the poutine would be as big a serving as it was so she ended up bringing home most of her chicken sandwich and a little poutine.I would definitely go back to this restaurant. Good food, quick service, and great prices.
Ok, lots of agenda reviews posted here. Lovers was Winnipegs first independent BBQ joint and filled a void and got people on to the experience of BBQ. It is consistent and good. The style is consistent with southern us Joints. Lord save us from gourmet BBQ
I enjoy going here to get my BBQ fix. Make no mistake, this isn't the amazing Kansas City, Texas or Southern BBQ I get to enjoy when I travel but it is tasty enough to keep me coming back. The wings are really good as well as the mac n cheese. The service is usually quite friendly and helpful.
The ribs are super tasty, as are the sides (potatoe salad is yummy) but the service was a disorganized mess with table after table (including ours) being served the wrong food.
Would go again. Stopped in last Friday night shortly before they closed (9pm) wifie had the pulled pork poutine and I had the brisket. Poutine was "HUGE" and tasty, the brisket was good as well. Nothing on my plate jumped out as " I can't live with out this" but all items that came with the meal were tasty and well made. Overall it was a good experiance, would go back for sure.

Delicious little BBQ shack. I've been here several times, and one of the things that people are very quick to bash about it is the lack of service. I think of Lovey's as almost a fast-food BBQ, so expect to pour your own drink, get your own fork and knife, and yes, even get your own food from the counter.
For those wanting a dinner service beyond fast-food, don't look for it here, and don't complain about it when you don't find it.
The one problem that the food here has is that everything, no matter what you order, tastes the same. It's all covered in the same sauces and cooked the same way and so no matter what you have on the plate it's just more and more of the same.
As for the price, it's high, but reasonable considering the amount of food you get. If I get a combo platter, there's no way I'm finishing it on my own. The roll of paper towel they have at each table is definitely necessary.
It's rustic, it's crude, it's self-service, and the food all tastes the same... but it's still really awesome BBQ that you can't really find anywhere else in Winnipeg and I'm certainly not complaining. You just can't look at the place expecting to have 5 star dining, that's all. What do you expect from a Southern style BBQ shack?
Why didnt i know about this sooner?!. Went there by recommendation and it was just s good as they said it'd be! my boyfriend and i shared the meal for two and a giant homemade lemonade. Lemonade was delicious. The meal for two could have easily fed three. came with pulled pork yum. ribs yum, and chicken super yum! pretty good bbq sauce too. sides were potato salad, beans and corn bread with actual corn niblets in it. :)

Great BBQ! when going here, don't expect a fancy sit down, attentive service meal. Your getting amazing mouth watering, finger licking food! It is a bit pricey but at least your paying for quality food and not half dressed waitresses.
Best BBQ in the city!. I love this place. The food is great and the service is good. The service is perfectly fine all you have to do is order it yourself, no worries. :)
YUM!. I really like coming here. I've never had a bad experience, and I've come here several times already. I also don't think that the owner was rude either! I thought he was super nice.
My favourite item on the menu is the pulled pork.. I don't order it anywhere else but here anymore! It's really good!! And their fries are also pretty good. I never found their ribs to be too dry, although I wasn't a huge fan of the brisket.
The customer service was fine for me. I've actually walked in with somebody greeting me, to ensure that I knew how the restaurant worked... you seat yourself and you order up at the front.
Best BBQ so far north of the border. Not alot of room to sit. Eating was rushed. Well worth the line up and cost
In LOVE with Lovey's!. This place was awesome. To be honest, I was nervous about eating here after reading some of the negative reviews. All I could think once we finished dinner was "what on earth were people talking about??" It was delicious, we got tones of food, the meat had a wonderful smoked flavor, the coleslaw wasn't dripping in tones of mayo, which was great and the beans were delicious. The place was absolutely packed, so it's obvious that many people enjoy eating here. Highly recommended for some good comfort food!

Weekend Dinner. We had bought a coupon for Lovey's late last year, and the expiry date was fast approaching, so we decided to finally head over to St. B for our BBQ meal. In a lot of the other reviews, I had noticed that people commented on the wait staff (or counter staff, whichever you prefer), and the owner's attentiveness. I'm not sure if changes were made due to reviews, or if they just realized that something needed to change, but I found the staff to be excellent. They have hired a "pit boss" (floor manager), and he was quite attentive. The owner only peeked his head out of the back a couple of times. I personally do not have a problem with the "pay first" mentality, but if they want to jump a little into something more than fast food, then waitresses and bills at the end of the meal are a must.
Our food was good. We shared the 2-meat combo, and it did an excellent job of filling us up. The ribs were fantastic, fall off the bone tender. The brisket was alright. Not as juicy as I had hoped for, but still very tasty.
Overall, it was an excellent experience. I don't know how often we'll go, as the price is a little steep to NOT be waited on.
OH SO YUMMY. This was our first visit to Lovey's...We ordered the meal to share for 2, had ribs, chicken and Beef Brisket...everything was so good...I especially loved the beans and ordered more to take home...We are looking forward to going back and trying the wings...Come HUNGRY..we have enough leftovers for two more meals...Thanks staff...I thought the father and daughter owners were wonderful...both friendly and helpful.

Fun & Boisterous Spot. Comfort Food! I was back in town for the weekend, and wanted to get caught up with my old uni pal. No reservations for more upscale joints we decided to give Lovey's a go. It was packed to the rafters on a cold Saturday night with Peggers of all ages noshing down. Steam on the windows and aroma of BBQ's hanging thick on the air. Good for people watching, for sure. My friend loves ribs and she was happy iwth her meal, and me the same. Ribs were moist & favourful. Onions rings were awful, I'd give that a pass next time. I did not mind the pay-first option, when you are done and ready to go, hey, it is just get up and go. Nice surprise were the soft drinks in glass bottles from Black Cherry to Rootbeer. Blew my New Year's diet all to heck, but made a visit back to the City a bit livelier. If you don't like noise or squihiness this spot is not for you. If you like that kind of ambiance you will be happy-happy. Our meals were fine, hope Lovey's can deliver consistenly, cos I'd love to go back with friends and rellies in tow. Sign me, Happy & Full
