Friendly staff and very clean dinning area. Huge portion sizes, fair prices and great tasting food make this restaurant a family favourite. I highly recommend the pizza and meat ravioli!
Great food; very good prices. Their souvelaki just melts in your mouth. Some of the best lemon potatoes in Winnipeg!
I have eaten here 3 times and had a different meal each time and loved them all. Favorite is the Chicken Gyro and Greek Salad! Love food and especially the price if you eat there before 3:30 -$9.99
Great place for food and service! Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is great! Portions are very generous - I'm a healthy eater and always have leftovers.
Awesome lunch menu! 10 buck list is superb! All good, flavourful and generous portions. Good staff and prompt. I get there at least once a week if I can.
Delicious food. I have eaten there 2 times and loved it both times
Service was incredible. Always with a smile. And the food was probably the best Greek dish I've had in many years.
Good food and good service. Can never go wrong stopping in here! Family owned and run places are always the best!
Had THE BEST lasagne here! Fantastic service and reasonable prices - definitely a must try!
Amazing!!!! Food is simply delicious and the portion are insane. Best chicken souvlaki hands down. Ty it you will love it.
Awesome food, excellent service! We were a group of +20!! Will definitely return and try other items on the menu!!
One of my favorite new restaurants. Their spanikopita is my fave! Best I have ever had. :)
Friendly staff, good food, big portions :).
great food and great prices----lunch for 10.00. make it a regular stop with friends. also very good service
Super friendly staff, very accommodating, and great food! Will definitely be returning to try their coal fired pizza.
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. I tried it for the first time a few evenings ago and I was very impressed by the extensive menu. There were so many things to choose from and it was hard to narrow it down to just one thing. I also appreciated the prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly service. Any questions we had about the menu or anything else were adequately addressed by our server.
The prices may seem a bit steep, but the portions are enormous, so there's definitely value for money. If you order a traditional Greek meal, it comes with salad, vegetables, rice, and potatoes. You don't have to choose just one thing.
I got four meals from my lasagne and the side salad was larger than at many restaurants I've been to, plus they gave two thick pieces of garlic bread instead of just one like most restaurants do. So unfortunately I was almost full before my meal arrived. The chocolate blackout cake was delicious as well and I ate it over three days.
I would love to come back and try some different entrees based on my positive experience here.
Decided on trying a new place, don't find deep fried zucchinis much anymore, so I wanted to try them. Pretty good, pickles were good too, cheese toast was soggy but that's to be expected, still tasty. Will venture out to the restaurant and try more food.
Great food here! I had the lasagne, massive portion I couldn't even finish. My wife had the gyro, again a giant portion. My son had the lunch pasta which was also huge.
The only thing that they could do to improve would be to add a kids menu.
Will be back!
Great food at very affordable price. I ordered the chicken parmesan came with caesar's salad and garlic toast and my friend ordered for the chicken souvlaki and all was very good. Fast friendly service. Won't hesitate to try other lunch menus next time. Recommended.
Came with a large group without reservations on a Friday and they were very accomadating dragging a few tables from one end of the restaurant to another on a busy Friday night. We started off with apps that came quite quickly to the table considering the busy night and all the takeouts going out the door. Dinner was amazing Had the lamb souvlaki special that evening! BEST IN THE CITY! If there is any other place that even has lamb souvlaki... Pizza was also served to our table. Looked stunning. Stone fired and just fantastic. Coming again without a doubt!
Our fist visit with 5 adults was a very good experience. Everyone had different dishes and all were very satisfied with their meals. Staff was great, food was great! We will be back. Recommended :?)
This isn't another dive Greek burger joint. Real Greek cuisine with pizza. Lol So nice to get appetizers like taramosalata and spanakopita. Very flavourful food. Will be back to try the stone baked pizza.
Sort of a cross between Original George's on St. Mary's and Garwood Grill.
Usual Greek Cuisine from apps to deserts.Home made soups, Pizza.
Fairly inexpensive. Good Gyros
Meals complete with salad. 2 Chicken Souvlaki with Rice and salad, and pita for 13.00 is good value. Food is well prepared and fresh.Lamb Gyro's are a bit weak, as they bring in that gyro meat from where everyone else does. For those you go to the bakery on Main near Hartford.
Generally good value.
Back ribs full slab for 22.00 with all the trimmings. Homemade bbq sauce.
Baked Pasta's also under 12.00
Worth the try, then you decide!
Just down from St. Philip’s on Saint Mary’s is a new restaurant known as Helios. Helios falls into the category of replacement restaurant. Prior to Helios opening up the space had been home to La Petite France. La Petite France falls into the category of “restaurant that I always intended to visit but never did.” When I saw that there was a new place opening I decided I’d try it out sooner rather than later.
Great pizza. Dinner pasta portions are generous and the homemade bread is amazing. The pork souvlaki tenderloin is very well marinated. Definitely going again.
Best pizza I have had in a very long time. Service was amazing and very attentive. Very nice makeover from the French restaurant it used to be
First time eating here, and I was very satisfied with the experience. The two appetizers (calamari and deep fried zucchini) were served hot to our table and tasted freshly breaded. The Greek salad and garlic bread as starters were very tasty and good portion. Greek salad only had 2 black olives, but I didn't mind because I don't like them myself. The feta wasn't quite the best to me but still good.
The entrees (pork tenderloin skewers, and stuffed pepper) arrived at our table after a short wait and we're hot. The meals themselves were very tasty. The lemon potatoes were very good and a nice bite. The tenderloin was very tangy and super tender.
Overall it's a premium meal at a premium price that's well earned. We ordered 2 entrees, 2 appetizers, and a drink each and the total was 84$. Or 42$ a person. Not bad considering the quality and quantity of food we recieved. Would definitely come again, next time I'm looking for a premium dining experience.
I had to edit this review as a lot of things I had originally posted became outdated after a month. (I was here more than once in that month since I did enjoy it) So this is an amalgamated review.
I debated between 3 and 4 on this visit, but ultimately went with a 4. The service was fine on this visit from our server. She took direction but not initiative. The food is generally good. I'm still waiting to find that dish that I have fall in love with and crave all the time.
It didn't start out well. They had a water issue, which was the same water issue that was there from a month before that I guess is still not resolved. The water is yellow. They could not serve tap water or make tea. If tea, hot water, etc is important to you, you are out of luck.
On this visit, I had brought a group of people from out of town to try Helios. Originally they had platters which were priced well for their assortment of items to try. We were told they no longer have them. They were meant for customers to try everything and get a taste of the food, but since they have been here long enough, they felt it was no longer necessary. We were disappointed to hear that as it made for great presentation and was nice to have a sampling.
Portion sizes are large for everything.
When we went originally there seemed to be 3 sizes for salads. Half salad is not the same as a starter. (Pictures below show the difference). We used the Pellegrino can to help show size. However I am unsure if they changed that since.
We went for lunch this time (the other times it was dinner)
If you order the fries with fish expect a lot of fries and only a little fish. The full serving of calamari I felt was not as good as the side that you add to your meal. Its almost the same in value, but half portions often cost more. So if you do want all that calamari go ahead, but half portions are equally fine.
The slouvaki lunches seemed to be the best value and looked well balanced.
The caviar dip this time was not as good as the first time we tried it.
Highlights was flaming cheese because... Flames. The pan is larger where the cheese is a smaller piece in the center. It comes served with pita bread.
There was a lot of dressing on our half salad and a more moderate amount (I preferred this one) on our starter, which makes me feel it can be inconsistent.
Service is standard. Some are better than others. They usually did not go out of their way, but they were friendly and did their job.
I feel like the pricing is fair for what you get.
I appreciated everything came out piping hot.
You won't be leaving hungry here!!!! Amazing food, generous portions, friendly welcoming service and great daily specials! All the appitizers are delicious, the deepfried mushrooms and pickles are heavenly and the humas is very tasty and one of the better I've had while eating out.
The Greek salad pictured with garlic bread is only a side salad, I cannot imagine a full sized one!
Two chicken breasts stone cooked with spinach and feta.
Stuffed pepper with spiced ground beef, both come with lemon potatoes, rice and grilled vegetables.
Crazy reasonable prices, do not pass this up!
Top restaurant in the city. I had never tried something bad, it's always a good surprise. Recommended.
Brings back our Greece trip memories. Good food. Staff is very friendly. The owner oversees the operation like an OG greek.
Got chicken souvlaki. Came with greek salad and toast and they were both great! Chicken was tender and nicely grilled. The meal came with roasted veggies and lemony potatoes (which my husband didn’t like too much but I loved it!) Their tzatziki sauce is not too garlicky (which may be good or bad for you depending on your preference.) The inside is clean and warm especially since it was -1 outside.
We had eaten at Helios several times pre-pandemic and found the food to be amazing, so gave it a try for catering an event at home. I can't say enough positive things about the experience. Nick and team were responsive and accommodating, the food was amazing as expected, the portion sizes were ridiculously generous and everything arrived hot and on time. I look forward to catering our next event with Helios!
Excellent souvlaki and lemon potatoes, the same for the calamari! Everything is always fresh!
