Review Charisma Of India - Winnipeg

Quality Indian buffet, visited few times and all family members love their food so much, never let down. Service is good and owner is a really nice gentleman. Curry Lamb is my son's most favorite dish. Can't wait to visit there again!
Razia Sultana
Mouth watering indian halal buffet with 3 different types of deserts and price is in minimum range….Nice staffs and very tidy and warm welcoming.

I ordered for the first time goat biryani from them for delivery. The biryani was delicious and just right amount of spicy for me, great portion for the cost. Planning to try some more dishes from them. 🤤

Very nice place. Inside the dining area to bathrooms are neat and clean. Staffs are very friendly. Food is tasty. I recommend buffet!

I used to come here years ago, when I was younger, and always really enjoyed my experience. I am glad to say that covid has not caused the quality of Charisma to decline. If anything, it's even better than before. I always go for the all-you-can-eat buffet, which for 25$ for dinner is a very reasonable price, considering 16-20 options of dishes are available. The flavours are divine and I can hardly stop myself from going back for seconds, or even thirds! Naan is provided with the meal, and there is a little dessert section included in the buffet. Service has improved and is kind and polite. They will check on you periodically but for the most part service is done through the front kiosk. A wastage fee is incurred if you leave food on your plate, to help cut down on food wasted and costs. It is anywhere from 3-10$ if you don't eat it all. Drinks are reasonable prices as well, with lassis and milkshakes going for 3$ each or 4$ with mango. They have domestic and import alcohol as well, all at the lowest prices I've ever seen alcohol selling for in a restaurant. Customers were ethnically diverse, showing that its something that everybody can enjoy! Atmosphere is pleasant and classy-casual. Charisma offers delivery, takeout, catering, and even rent of the space as a wedding or event venue! Manager was kind and jovial, and checked in on us to ensure the quality of the food was to our liking. I will ABSOLUTELY be back soon!

I have gone to a different Indian buffet in Toronto. Least to say, Charisma was a huge disappointment. First things first, the food. The food was very bland tasting and did not have any significant spice. It was like boiled chicken put into the sauce. There was no infusion of the spice into the food. A little marinade would have gone a long way. The naan was also subpar. It tasted like naan that you get from a grocery store, warmed up, and then with cheap butter. No ghee. Butter chicken was the only item I would say would be average. The vegetarian options were very obviously using canned ingredients rather than fresh ones. The rice was also quite cold. The dishes themselves were quite dirty and we had to tell them to send it back and get us plastic containers instead. This applied to the spoons as well. The rice pudding was thoroughly disgusting. Very watery, with hard brown rice, it tasted bad. I did not finish my portion. The other desert (brown balls in sugar) was wayyy too sweet. I had to immediately drink water after. It tasted like liquid sugar. Like the very early stages of a carmel. I would not recommend this buffet and will not coming back here in the future. One other thing that irritated me was the general absence of Indian workers. It was mostly Bangladeshi so it was hard to tell them how the food was not to basic restaurant standard. I think that this restaurant has suffered a lot through the pandemic -- the food quality shows.

Best east indian buffet in wpg.

My entire vegan family and I came here for my birthday and we were treated like royalty. Special dishes were made for us, they even made us vegan naan bread. Best service we have ever received. 8 thumbs up!!!!
Vijay Chintamaneni
Had a group dinner (buffet) at Charisma. Great choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes were on offer with rice, naans and desserts. Exceptional quality for the price paid. A really good place to go to and have sumptuous dinner in Winnipeg.
Jessica Lizotte
We went here last night for the supper buffet. It was so delicious, fresh and flavourful! There was so much variety. The naan bread was brought to our table fresh from the kitchen! We will be back soon!
Monique Champagne
Food was sooo salty it burned. Butter chicken wasn't creamy. Staff was friendly. Good price for buffet if you can deal with the salt.
Christopher Carter
I have honestly never had better east Indian food. Buffet was delicious, had a big selection of dishes, waitress was very friendly and attentive. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the buffet was really expensive in comparison to others I've been to, though still worth it.
Dana Forester
Without a doubt, the best Indian cuisine I’ve tasted. We just left, I’m still full and can’t wait to go back.
Carley Janessa
Amazing food! One of the best places for Indian food in winnipeg by far. Tons of options for vegetarians and meat lovers too. And very authentic! Everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is positive and relaxing. Definitely be back for more!
Laurie Fraser
Definitely going back. Great selection of home cooked food! Lots of space between tables so you don’t feel crowded. Parking attendant onsite to help you get a spot.
Craig Littler
My wife and I were here for our regular pick a different restaurant every time date. The food and service was excellent. This was our first time here and will definitely be back in the future. Hands down best Indian restaurant we've been to so far!!!!!
Ritesh Patel
So so so disappointed. Never been disappointed in any restaurant in my life like this. Ordered Onion bhaji and they gave me onion rings. Cancelled ordered for roti then she was saying you have to eat once you order and have to pay rather you eat or not. Staff don't know anything about menu. Never ever suggest anyone to go there
Rose Gauthier
We were there for the lunch buffet. The selection was HUGE!! The price, I felt, was a bit steep at $17 but, considering all the dishes they have available, I guess it's a fair price.
Glenda Hedley
Great service, very friendly and solicitous manager, helped us with food choices and good recommendations, plus Saturday evenings they have entertainment, we had a belly dancer.ďż˝
Chris Johnson
For $20 you get all sorts of great tasting yummies for their buffet. Vegan friendly food is marked & plentiful! I'll definitely go back
Carol Rybczuk
Love the food at Charisma...buffet has great variety ...simply delicious!
Michelle Kresz
Best Indian restaurant in Winnipeg! Everything I tried was excellent, fresh and delicious.... So many vegetarian options to choose from too. Service was great, I will definitely be back!

We had a busy day and wanted a fast meal, I had a craving for Indian Cuisine - so after a quick web search, reading a few online reviews we gave Charisma a try. Wonderful food, lovely people and a kitschy but clean and neat interior.

The buffet seemed to be the choice of all seated so we indulged. A good selection of basic and classic dishes, tandoori chicken was a hit as were the pakora, relishes and as always nan bread was hot, soft and delicious.

Ample parking in front in this strip mall gem was just a great bonus. Give it a try.

Today I ordered the shahi paneer with rice and naan for takeout at lunch. I’m usually vegan but right now I’m eating more vegetarian because I’m pregnant and my B12 levels were extremely low. Anyways counter service was friendly and it was ready on time. I was having a major Indian food craving and I found the food to all be extremely delicious. The paneer and sauce was so so good and well seasoned and the portion size was great.. I could only eat half of it and leftovers are always cool in my books. The naan was great too. It had been a while since I had been to Charisma but I will definitely be going back again soon!
Ricky
We were there for lunch buffet. We were a table of 6 and they over charged us $3 each. We were told that if we had meat with our lunch that we would be charged for a dinner buffet. Clearly not what the menu says.
We approached one of the workers and he said we had too much goat stew..lol. I guess he preferred we just had rice for $15.
Amateurs !

I had the vegetarian buffet on a Saturday afternoon and felt sick. I was able to make it home and vomited twice. I'm never eating there again!
FF
Worst Indian restaurant I've been to so far. Service was bad. Food was awful. Too expensive. There are better restaurants in town. Never again.
Carol
Love, love, love the food! Flavours are fantastic! Good selection and the food is hot and fresh. So much to try! I also just adore the atmosphere. It's pretty inside, with just the right romantic feeling lighting. Great place for a date, dinner with family or friends. I can't wait to go back!!
Kayla.boudreau10
Best samosas and vegan selection! I always order on skip and they are fast and foods always hot! Super friendly staff! My go to in the city for samosas!
Hailey Funk
We ordered dinner through Skip the dishes on Mothers Day, our bill was $74 and we received cold food. When we contacted Skip, the restaurant refused any compensation because "it was prepared and delivered on time". They must have just taken the food for our order from the buffet because it wasn't hot AT ALL, And when you pay almost $80 for 4 people to eat dinner, it should be freshly prepared. Very disappointed in Charisma.

Came here for lunch with a colleague, and am pretty much convinced that this place is one of the best Indian restaurants in the city. Their buffet is pretty extensive and has all the popular food items I like.

I really like their butter chicken and goat curry! Their palak paneer (spinach curry) is also well made and they do an excellent navratan korma (creamy vegetable curry).

They have other items like salad and soup as well as dessert. The best part of the buffet is it includes two pieces of fresh made naan per person! Really compliments the meal nicely and is just the right amount!

My favorite part about the buffet is the value. For $17 you get lots of very tasty food! The restaurant itself is nicely laid out and the serving staff were very attentive. The one annoying thing is the parking. The lot is small and is shared with the strip mall.
Fatguy Foodie
Went for the lunch buffet on Saturday for a family get together. I had been before, but not for 5 or 6 years so it was basically new to me. I found that the spices were all very similar and obvious, there was none of the subtlety of flavours that marks great East Indian food. Another reviewer noted East India Company and I have to agree that is the standard in Winnipeg. However there were some standouts. The butter chicken was the best I've had in recent memory. And the naan was authentic, fresh and delicious. The lunch buffet was $15 and included naan so I be happy to go and eat the butter chicken on basmati rice with naan until I couldn't walk. The room itself is tastefully decorated and clean, the washrooms were also clean and pleasant. I shouldn't have to make a point of saying it but the plates and cutlery were clean too - we all know it is a standard that is not always maintained at restaurants. The music was a bit loud and out of place. An elevator muzak version of "Mr. Lonely" was perhaps a shout out to the only other patron who happened to be eating solo. The owners were very nice and not at all intrusive to our little family gathering even though they must have been bored. A very nice time, some of the curries lacked depth of flavour, but I would definitely go back.

I finally made a visit to Charisma! I had heard great things about this place but I honestly had no idea what to expect prior to coming especially it's located in the central of hipster land.

When I walked in, I was quite impressed with the decor, it was elegant. The restaurant has plenty of seatings, which is great for large parties.

There are two options for dinner: buffet or menu. I had the buffet and boy, was that delicious!! Charisma uses fresh and high quality ingredients. I have been to quite a few East Indian restaurants in town and this one is by far my favourite! Aside from the excellent meal, the service was great too! The owner was extremely friendly and he made us feel very welcome!

Now the most important question that comes down to is: how expensive was it? I can honestly tell you that the pricing was extremely reasonable. It was $20 plus tax per person for an evening buffet. The Nann bread was included too. No other restaurants in the city provide such great quality of food, ambient and service for a dinner buffet meal for such a reasonable price!

Overall, I would highly recommend Charisma! If you're looking for a place that serves/caters high quality East Indian food for a reasonable amount, this is it!

Just a heads up, parking at the restaurant could be tricky even though the it has a parking lot attached to it, however, space is limited so be prepared to arrive there early to sort out parking or carpool if you're going!
The Heavy Hitters
Only have been here for the buffet. Hot food is a nice mix of vegetarian options and meat ones and are high quality. Samosas are delicious. Regular naan bread is included with buffet which is a nice treat. Not much selection for salad and one pickle option the times we went. We also prefer our gulab jamun warm. Good little East Indian option if you are in the area, but if you have a vehicle East India Company is not too much further away for close to the same price.
Kristina Sara
I've ordered from here on Skip the dishes twice, first time was delicious so ordered a second. The second time the samosas were cold and undercooked, the curry was watery and there was 3 pieces of overcooked chewy shrimp in one of the dishes. They give you lots of rice, but you never have enough sauce or curry because those containers are pretty small portions..they also give you two types of sauce, tamarind and a hot sauce.. my brother seemed impressed with the Masala but said he wouldn't order the curry again. The food is good enough where I am going to try the buffet.
Jenna Carswell
Great experience! The service was good, decor and presentation was charming, and most importantly, the food was delicious! We had the dinner buffet. Fresh naan was brought to the table and the buffet selections were fresh and we loved everything we ate. My favourites were the goat curry, chicken tikka masala, and panak paneer!
Mitchell Van Ineveld
As a vegetarian living in the Sherbrook area, this place is a godsend. Their lunch buffet is a great deal, I always try to rope my friends in to coming here just so I can have some of their amazing Palak Paneer. Great spot for a lunch meeting or going out with friends.

Charisma of India is one of several fine Indian buffets in Winnipeg. I like buffets of all sorts, and particularly Indian buffets. I’ve been for the lunch buffet in the past, but somehow or other never gotten around to visiting again. This is rather surprising seeing that it’s Sherbrook location is so close to St. Margaret’s, one of the parishes I’m involved with as a priest. As far as the buffet goes, I quite like it. The lunch buffet at $14.99 is reasonably priced and has quite a good selection to choose from.
Kiki
The buffet is good, good selection and food is flavorful and fresh.

I like the fact that the naan bread comes with the buffet, I've never been a fan of other places that don't have that.

The spicy chicken and tikka masala were delicious!
M
I ordered takeout for my family "Dinner for four" that consisted of 4 Samosas, 2 meat and 2 vegetarian entrees for $66.00. We selected the chicken vindaloo, chili chicken, palak paneer (Vegetarian) and the navratan/Vegetable Korma (Vegetarian). For the desert we ordered the gulab jamun. We have tried a good number of Eastern Indian restaurants in the past and this one is now one of our favorites not only because of the excellent flavor and quality, but the value was outstanding as well. All of the items we ordered tasted as good, if not better in some instances, than the East Indian Company. You have to try this place! I highly recommend it!
HungryHulk
My friend usually had take out , and says lamb biryani is best they make. But i tried other food which i didn't really like the taste .
Located at nice location neat Osborne so people usually end up going .

I consider myself knowledgeable of Mexican and Italian cuisine as I have traveled to both countries a number of times and studied intently. With frequent exposure I am fairly well versed in French, Middle Eastern, Greek, Vietnamese and Thai cuisine as well. I have taken a cooking class to learn how to make samosas but other than that, I cannot claim to be an expert in East Indian cuisine and yet I love its complex tastes and flavours.
Arizona89
Poor selection, WAY overpriced mainstream Indian buffet. Eating area was unappealing as well, it was a cavernous outdated gross carpeted area. We will look elsewhere for Indian food in the future.
HubbaBubba
Went for the dinner buffet. Almost every dish was a bit heavy on the oil, but the taste was delicious. All the items are marked as vegetarian and vegan which is nice.
OinkOink
Buffet is alright, pretty much standard across the city. Typical vegetarian dishes like lentils, chickpea curry, palak paneer... then meat dishes like butter chicken, tandoori chicken, etc.

One time we did takeout for their roti, expecting a Caribbean style roti. We were surprised to get something different, but spicy and flavourful nonetheless. We ordered the chicken roti. :)
Justin Troy Roper
My favourite Indian Restaurant in the city. Excellent service and great selection with their buffet. The palaak paneer and chicken korma are my go to dishes. The unlimited naan bread is so good you could make a meal on that alone.
Kale Lutomsky
I have been here many times with my girlfriend, and each time, the food and service is amazing! We always have the buffet; such authentic Indian cuisine! Furthermore, owner and manager Mitesh is there to greet us at the door & show us to our table. As a student of occupational therapy at the University of Manitoba, Mitesh even allowed us to compose an "accessibility report" on his establishment for a project! All around, Charisma of India is a wonderful establishment. A true gem here in Winnipeg. I urge you to give this place a shot if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed!
Helena1996
It's Ok. Love the theme of the restaurant and that it brings out the culture. But the dinner buffet was cold, which was really disappointing and we came when they started to serve. Kind of expected better. But the options for buffet are enough and options for not spicy are Ok too. But I must say the Indian desserts blew me away! That part was definitely delicious!
Jason Klassen
The buffet is pretty average. No major complaints. The food was average, the service was good. I am new to Winnipeg and hope to find better Indian in the city.
Krystaharder
Excellent buffet. I have been to charisma many times. the manager is very warm and personal and likes to get to know his patrons. Superior taste quality to some of the other Indian buffets in Winnipeg. The smaller selection isn't a problem because it is the RIGHT selection! Don't come too early though! They don't start serving till they start serving. We went at 11 one time and were prettymuch asked to come back later. Unfortunately my son naps, so we just had to eat elsewhere that time.
Michelle J
Loved it. Went for the lunch buffet to try something new and loved everything! The naan bread was delicious and I couldn't get enough, they were happy to bring out more for the table. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, coming by the table to make sure everything went well. I will definitely be back and will bring more people to enjoy the experience, I tells ya!

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Me and my GF went there a few nights ago for their buffet. We made complete pigs of ourselves and loved every moment! Their food is of high quality and super tasty! Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating as we had arrived just before they were shutting down the buffet. They kept it open JUST FOR US and we had the meal of our dreams!!!! GO!!! DO IT!!!! Do it NOW!!!!!!

Best Indian Food in Winnipeg. The best dishes I've eaten here would be the Chicken Korma and Palak Paneer. My favorite indian dish is the palak paneer and I would have say that Charisma does it the best. I've tried the buffet before and there is a wonderful array of amazing, tasty dishes to choose from. I highly recommend this restaurant.

What a fantastic night!. I brought my out of country sister in law and two girlfriends here for dinner on a Saturday night. The place was busy and we didn't have a reservation but we were seated right away. The staff were friendly and took great care of us. We were thrilled to find out that everything in the buffet was halal...rare, I think, for an Indian restaurant? So my Muslim sister in law was able to partake in the great selection of delectable dishes like the rest of us. That was a nice surprise! Everything on the buffet was delicious...we couldn't decide which one was our favourite! And the added bonus of the night was that there was a belly dancer! She was amazing! This really enhanced the whole experience. This was not my first time at Charisma, I've been there before, but it had been a long time. It won't be a long time before I go back again, though! Great food, great ambiance...I'd recommend this place to anyone! :)

Five stars. I had a very great time at Charisma! The atmosphere is authentic and so is the food! I had the pleasure to have the buffet and it had so much food! There were multiple meat dishes, vegetarian dishes, rice and noodle dishes, a salad bar and a dessert bar. Not to mention the warm buttery naan that comes with the meal. The price was reasonable for the amount of food you get. The servers were very friendly and the food was delicious!
Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Mfinkielsztein
I liked it. Delicious food. When i have lunch there, for an extra $3 i get a glass of wholesome milk to help me get through their menu.
i admit i am a sissy cry baby when it comes to hot spicey food. i do not even try the items that are marked "hot". i use my glass of milk to help me through those that are "regular". But that is just me.!!
i have been there several times and i have enjoyed every dish. People who have been there with me also enjoyed the food. Both hot and 'not-hot'. Their dessert section is also Delicious. i do reserve 'some space' for dessert. Definitely a place to go.

Great food, great service. Dinner buffet was delicious! Everything is good and lots of different flavours (unlike another popular Indian buffet where everything tends to taste the same, in my opinion). Little touches make this place great: fresh and unlimited naan brought to your table (request garlic naan, it's my favourite), a fresh dosa cooked in front of your eyes at the buffet and delivered to your table (think Indian crepe with amazing stuffing and sauces), warm gulab jamun dessert (as they are meant to be in my opinion!) and my water glass was never empty.
Annie
Great service and food!. I really like this place. The food is great and the service is awesome. Their dosas are so good. There are lots of vegan options too.
Sarah Bauer
Delicious Indian food and perfect service.. My boyfriend and I come here very often, lately once a week. I have never been disappointed; the buffet is the best in the city. Everything is fresh and delicious. The service is awesome; never have to wait for anything and everyone is very attentive and genuinely happy. The owner is always around greeting customers and clearing plates, asking how everything is, etc. It's a lovely atmosphere. Tonight, in addition to the buffet, they also had "Dosa" - a dish I would compare to a crepe but with vegetables inside and coconut sauce.. so good!! They are made fresh to order right in front of you. Really cool experience. Will always recommend this restaurant to people. I have brought my very picky parents here and they were wowed and have become regulars on their own. All around wonderful place.

Fantastic food and quick service. I'm always looking for good Indian food and I definitely found some. Last night my girlfriend and I ordered the dinner for two special which came with samosa's, naan, papadum, rice, and 1 meat and 1 veggie entree. I love spicy and more than that I love when I order something that says it's really spicy and they actually deliver. I chose the chicken vindaloo for my meat entree and it was superb in every way. The aroma and flavour was all present along with the scorching spice that I expect when ordering a vindaloo. We also ordered the chickpea masala as our veggie dish because vindaloo is typically out of my girlfriend's league when it comes to spice and she was not disappointed with her choice either. I'll definitely be returning.

So good at Folklarama. I was a volunteer at Folklarama and very much enjoyed my experience with Charismas amazing food. From Tandoori chicken to tasty samosas it was a treat eating st Charisma. And the owner was very kind and helpful with the menu. The lassis were good but being Indian I would have preferred the non sweet option. In any case, food was great!

Best Indian food in Winnipeg. I have been going to charisma of India since I was 6 years old and is still my favourite restaurant

Want to really try great food!!!!!. My husband and I have been going to Charisma of India for many years starting in its' earliest beginnings as a small quaint little restaurant which evolved into to its larger version of today. The food and the service here is amazing and the ambiance is wonderful....makes you feel like you are actually out of the country and is a wonderful experience for my husband and I no matter how many times we go. As an added bonus at the end of each month there is a belly dancer that entertains throughout the supper hour and is a wonderful experience. The owner of the restaurant is a very personable and engaging individual who cares about your experience in his restaurant in a most genuine way. Throughout the years we have been to many East Indian restaurants until we found this little gem. So if you are looking for great food, ambiance and a new experience I suggest you try Charisma to find out for yourself.

Great Food. We live in Saskatchewan.
Whenever we are in Winnipeg we make a point to stop at Charisma.
The Indian buffet is delicious. I especially like the Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken and Naan.
My wife loves the Dosas.
Overall experience is excellent.

Love It!. Excellent Buffet for a great value. My husband and I are repeat customers -- at least once every couple of months for the past 4 years. The owner of the place is very nice and friendly. They are offering a new lunch time option--I can't remember the name of it but it's like and Indian equivalent to a burrito --super yummy and around $9?? If you want to do the buffet but no time...I've seen them give a take out container for customers to fill up at the buffet...that's a fantastic option and I don't know any buffets that let you do that. The place is clean, quiet with good Indian music softly playing in the background. I love the veggie korma and my husband's fav is the chicken. They have excellent naan which comes with every buffet meal and the sweets are great too! I give it 4 stars.

First time here. I have never had East Indian food in my life. My wife brought me here tonight for the all you can eat buffet. We got here right when dinner started at 430pm and everything was just freshly made. Also we were the only ones there for a good 30 mins. The decor is lots of browns and purples on the walls and chairs and it's dimly lit. East Indian music was playing gently in the background. The service was friendly and the place was very clean.

Honestly I can't remember the names of half the stuff I ate but the goat curry was great. The Naan bread was brought fresh to our table and I enjoyed that. Other than that I can't say I really enjoyed the food all that much. Not because there was anything wrong with it, it's just that I don't prefer this kind of food. Now that I've experienced it I don't think I'll bother coming back. I think if you're a fan of East Indian food this is definitely a great place to check out.

As a vegan i am always looking for great vegan food, and the wife and i love the food, atmosphere, ownership and service here!

This was our first visit. It was recommended by a fellow who worked with my husband(and knows a thing or two about East Indian cuisine!) we had the buffet at 2:00 in the afternoon. The buffet was just wonderful, and everything tasted as fresh as if it had just been prepared. The flavours were wonderful, and not too spicy. Perfect for me, although my husband likes more heat. Had we asked, I'm sure they would have supplied more spice!
The naan bread was delicious! We ordered a take out for our son, and they prepared fresh bread just as we were leaving. We will most definitely be back!
Good Food 4U
Fantastic food and service. Have had the lunch buffet and ordered pick up dinners twice. Every time the service was very friendly, accomodating and informative. The food is excellent.
Jeysan1969
Diner in Winnipeg. Great food, great service. My friend and I usually go for lunch their at least once a month, sometimes more. For a buffet style lunch their is a good variety of veg and non-veg items. Good selection of hot sauces and pickling spices. The foods is flavourful and the naan bread is brought to your table made fresh. I highly recommend this place if you looking for tasty Indian food, especially buffet.
Iron_jones
Love it. I've been here a few times and each time is better than the last. The service is wonderful and the atmosphere is warm and exotic.
I highly recommend the dinner buffet. This food is delicious.

Best Indian Food In the City!. Charisma is very well known for its takeout and catering menu...but it's even more incredible fresh from the kitchen in their dinner buffet.
Upon walking in, you are greeted by the delectable aromas and exquisite atmosphere that you would hope to be greeted by in an Indian establishment. The ambient lighting is low and warm, and the music is transient and beautifully atmospheric. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and rick with the colours and textures of the country it represents.

The buffet is a modest size; not as large as some, but certainly not without a selection of popular menu favourites.
Particularly notable are the Tandoori Chicken, the Chana Masala (Chickpea Curry), and the Butter Chicken. The hearty serving of Naan bread is also noteworthy.

The service staff (who I assume is family) are warm, cheerful, friendly, and not surprisingly, charismatic. The owner makes sure to stop and visit every table, and makes jovial banter.

Visit Charisma of India. Be transported by a rich tradition of wonderful food and service to a land far away.

Amazing Food but Even Better Service!. My wife and I had the opportunity to go to Charisma for lunch and it was a real treat! The food selection was fantastic and the flavors were out of this world. We were treated like royalty and received some of the best service since we moved to Winnipeg last fall. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for high quality, great tasting food at a very reasonable price.

Hate charisma restaurant. We went to the restaurant on jan 15th and the buffet really sucks, the desserts in the buffet, custard and rice pudding were rotten and sticky, plz check the whole buffet before you start eating.
Marie
I should have written this review a long time ago but didn't. I felt compelled to do it now after seeing that this restaurant actually managed to get an 81% "like"! There was really nothing wrong with the food, but I was totally UNIMPRESSED with the lack of professional conduct demonstrated by the owner. My husband and I decided to try out the buffet on a weekend (this was a few months back when there was construction on the street). When we entered we were immediately greeted by the owner asking us if the white SUV in the parking lot was ours. When we said "no", he promptly got on the phone to have it towed. He proceeded to call in every car that he felt shouldn't be parked in the lot in a Nazi-esque fashion, including actually leaving the restaurant to yell at a lady for simply idling her vehicle in the parking lot. Long story short, he literally ended up getting in a yelling match with this lady's husband right inside the restaurant. The man calmly accused the owner of frightening his wife (which he had done) and being completely disrespectful (which he was being). Instead of apologizing, the owner began to yell at the man. Once the man left, the owner actually came over to us and said "as if his measly $12 he would pay to eat here even means anything! He thinks I NEED him or his business? He means nothing". I guess he'll be glad to hear that he has 2 more "insignificant" non-customers to worry about: US! We'll never go back, but we're glad that we won't single handedly destroy his business!

Great Food and a Great Neighbour. We've been eating at Charisma since it first opened across the back lane from us -- it's the best Indian food in town.

Even more, they're great neighbours. Charisma was the first restaurant to give our area a try and if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have the thriving South Sherbrook we have today.

They've improved where we live, made our back lane a safe place for our kids (they provide better security for us than any alarm company ever would), and have helped our property values skyrocket.

Anyone that says they're a bad neighbour should remember what it was like before they got here (if they were even here back then...). Thank you Charisma!

Bad Customer Service. I did not like the treatment given to me by this restaurant. i called in to order some dishes for dinner, but when they found out i am using a coupon, they are no longer very accommodating. the person i spoke with on the phone was rushing me

Surprisingly well-decorated on the inside. Lighting is quite dark but just enough to give off a more relaxed and easy going vibe. Food is amazing, best East Indian in the city in my opinion. Owner of the restaurant was awesome and gave us a yogurt mango drink on the house. Definitely recommended!

Love Love Love this restaurant. I'm a Ukrainian Canadian who lives in St. B and I eat at Charisma often. The food is always fresh - not sure why someone said anything was dry since the majority of food is in various sauces or why they would say during the week it's not fresh since I've been mostly on weekday evenings. I've been going for years.

My favourite dish is the Chicken Korma - though any of the dishes are good. Last time I was there the buffet included Butter Chicken, Spicy Chicken, 3 different Kormas, Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobi, Samosa (scrumptious), Goat Curry, 2 rice dishes, noodles, Pakora, Chickpea Curry, and those are just the dishes I remember! Last week I went with two friends. They served us fresh hot Naan which was the best I've had in the city. After 3 helpings from the buffet they were done. We sat talking for a long time, had dessert, talked some more and were never bothered. They are NOT pushy! Trust them, love the food and will be a customer forever!

I had a great culinary experience at Charisma. The dishes were all exceptional, my personal favorite was the butter chicken. The atmosphere in the restaurant it very welcoming and relaxing. The staff are friendly and the owner makes and effort every time to visits your table and make sure you are being taken care of. The desserts are to die for, you'll want to try them all!! I would truly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good indian food.

My wife and I have come here a few times, and the food and staff have always been great. Thanks

Great Indian for takeout. I ordered the takeout special for two and it was very tasty and so much food for the price. The special included one meat and one vegetarian entre so we ordered the tikka masala and the malai kopta. The tikka masala wasn't very spicy but it was still good. The malai kopta was something I'd never tried before but it was really good. It's these cheese and potato balls in a really yummy sauce. I'd definitely get it again. The special also came with naan bread, samosas, rice and papadoms. It really hit the spot. It was a lot of food for two people with enough for lunch the next day. I'd love to go check out the buffet and get to try all the other cool dishes so I can figure out what my favourite is.

I visited this restaurant with my family first time. And my experience was not good. Lack of staff, food is cold, service is very slow. Waste of money.

Awful!Awful!. Every dish we had from the buffet literally tasted like someone in the kitchen got lazy and just decided to dump curry powder on everything. Nothing I had tasted authentic or as if much preparation and time was spent making it. To top it all off our bill was FORTY dollars for TWO people. Never going back again! There was also a birthday or wedding going on in the main part of the restaurant yet they still were open to the public which made the atmosphere just awful for eating out.

Love the goat. Hubby and I have been to Charisma for dinner buffet a few times. The buffet is smaller than others in the city, but I find the food at least as good, if not better.

I absolutely love their goat curry - fall off the bone tender. It does have bones, but to me, that's just part of goat curry.

The butter chicken is great too.

Hubby loved the naan that is freshly made per table. One time we were offered a choice of butter naan, garlic naan, or one other flavour, so we got the garlic naan. The next time we were there, though, we were told that the buffet only includes the regular butter naan.

Small selection for dessert - I think 3 or 4 items - but not a big deal to me.

Overall, I will definitely be back.

Mostly Good Experiences. My partner and I both really enjoy Charisma and have always had great meals. The in-house atmosphere is always great and staff have been very attentive. The pick-up/delivery of dinner for 2 is a great deal.

My only complaint is that on their website, pamphlet, and PDF menu, it says they deliver between 11AM and 10PM - which so far, they haven't been able to do. The last time we called to order delivery it was around 4:15 and they took our order and then they quickly said, "We'll deliver it at 6pm" before hanging up. Would have been nice to know before you took the order. It seems like they're usually unable to make deliveries before 5:30.

Always go here for Lunch Buffet, always great food, clean and very good service..Have tried other Indian food, none compares to here

First time here, and not the last. From the service to the food it was amazing.

Should be your Indian staple!. Eaten at most Indian restaurants in the city and this one continues to top em all! Walk in the door and the aroma is amazing, food even better and excellent value. Staff very kind, patient to offer menu info if you are not sure about a dish which is much appreciated with ethnic food at times! Sooooo fresh and the absolute HOTTEST vindaloo going and so damn flavourful I still order this dish everytime! Props big time to all Charisma staff, job well done!

Enjoyable visits. This restaurant is close to work, so I am a frequent visitor. I enjoy the food, it is tasty and well seasoned. The decor is clean and comfortable. I have always found the staff attentive, it has great service. For me, restaurants in Winnipeg live or die by their food, and Charisma should be around for a very long time.
Always Hungry
SOOO GOOD. I came here for a buffet, and it was simply splendid!. I helped myself out to a lot, and not only was my tummy satisfied, but so were my taste buds. Will be coming back soon!

Absolutely Incredible!!!. The food was absolutely incredible! The buffet is the best way to go; you get to try everything for a very reasonable $20 including dessert. You receive complementary naan bread brought to you by the owner himself! The owner is such a nice guy, he stopped by and chatted with us about India and told us great stories, as well as thanked us deeply for coming and trying his restaurant. This is a fantastic family establishment that will hopefully stick around for a while! Definitely worth it to check out!
The Diner Guy
I have eaten and ordered from here numerous times. The biggest problem with this place is CONSISTENCY and PROFESSIONALISM. The same dish is always made differently seems like they draw a different recipe out of a hat everyday. My naan was clearly sitting in the buffet all day because it was dry and cold. My raita (yogurt) was clearly buttermilk which is not what it's supposed to be. Last time I paid a $5 delivery charge on $70 worth of food, this time no delivery charge on $40. The worst part about this place is when they do things the right way ,the food is good it's unbelievable but when it lacks consistency you meet know what to expect. As far as ordering off the menu and being served buffet food that is a true disappointment.

Went in for an early supper with the family due to missing out on lunch. It was about 4:30. We waited at the front to be seated The place was totally empty. Could of shot a cannon and the staff would have not noticed. Waited for 20 minutes. We left. Flipped the bird as we walked out.

One of my best restaurant. food so good and they are so friendly:)

Excellent Dinner. We have eaten here several times for lunch, each time having the buffet. Tonight my husband said he was taking me for dinner and gave me the choice of anywhere I wanted to go. Charisma of India was my choice.

I phoned to confirm how late they would be open and was told by the owner that they were a family restaurant and would remain open as long as there were customers, but to at least 9 pm. When we arrived on a Thursday evening at around 8:15 pm the restaurant was still about 1/3 full. We were immediately greeted at the door and offered our choice of seating. Within a minute of sitting, the server returned with a pitcher of iced water for our table.
We told her we would be having the buffet and she said she would bring us some naan bread.

My husband likes spicy food but I don't. We were each able to find dishes to suit our palates. He particularly liked the spicy chicken and goat curry, although neither of liked finding bones in the food. I liked the chicken and vegetable koora best. We both like the samosas and the pacodas. I really like that I can find a good selection of dishes that are flavourable without being spicy. This is the only Indian cuisine restaurant in town where I have been able to do that.

Having said that we liked particular dishes doesn't mean we didn't like the others. I have tasted everything on the buffet and only rejected some dishes because they are too spicy for my taste buds. My husband doesn't like vegetables so focuses on the dishes that are primarily meat. That said, we both like everything Charisma has to offer.

The food tastes fresh and is always available in sufficient quantities. There are three desserts, a rice pudding, a custard, and a sweet fruit dish. Additionally there are salads, chutneys and fresh fruit. The buffet tonight had about ten hot dishes. At lunch I think they normally have about seven hot dishes.

Last but not least is the service. Dishes are removed promptly and the staff is friendly, polite and efficient. The owner is on-site and willing to spend time with his customers.

The dinner buffet for two, including two pops, with taxes included came to $42.

Always Good. We have been a customer for several years. Always have a pleasant experience with staff. Food is fresh and tasty. Good quality at a good price. Recommended to friends.

Great food, better service! And the Naan is amazing!. I have been to this restaurant several times for the lunch buffet and it is always excellent. Service is fantastic - given it's a buffet, they still come and clear your table, bring you as much Naan as you want, refill your beverage... all with a smile and friendly words.

The Naan is fantastic! I would pay just to eat the Naan. For those who complain about bones in their meat - you want authentic? You got it! Boneless and skinless is a North American luxury - but have you noticed the price difference in a grocery store? The price of the buffet reflects this.

There is a wide variety of dishes (and wide variety of spiciness) and they are very flavourful. Best butter chicken I've tasted - most have no taste - here you can taste all the flavours. And they are happy to explain cooking methods, spices used, give you samples, share anything you ask. High 5 in my books!
Charisma Of India
Response to Jal. We are very sorry to hear that your experience with our restaurant Charisma of India was not what you had hoped. We make every effort to ensure that each of our customers is taken care of whenever they chose to dine here or order our dishes for take-out.
If you wish, we would love for you to come back to our restaurant and talk with us about what made your meal so unpleasant. We are always happy to offer complementary dinners for customers who are unsatisfied and come to us personally with their complaint.
We take great pride in our dishes, our ingredients, our chefs, and our service. We hope that you will come back to Charisma of India for another try and let us provide the great dining experience you were hoping for.
Thank you,
Joe Pereira
Notes. Clean well managed , large restaurant, very tasty food , love it , highly reccomended

Charismatic Charisma. Tasty food, great price, wonderful selection and you're made to feel special! I am always greeted as if I'm a regular there! Love the sense of acknowledgement that the owner shares verifying for me that it's the 'person' in the culinary experience that's most important. Out of the blue, he surprised us with some Chai Tea to top off an outstanding meal - reminds me of the days wandering in the hills of the Himilayans - what a kind gesture. Keep up the great personal service - it's always a treat to return!
rbg

Absolute Worst Garbage!. We were in the mood for Indian food and decided to order take out from Charisma. We ordered samosa's, mutter paneer (curried peas & fresh cheese cubes), aloo gobi (potatoes & cauliflower), butter chicken, chicken masala and shrimp curry. Everything was extremely bland and watered down. The mutter paneer was the spiciest but only came with 4 diminutive pieces of paneer. The tamarind sauce for the samosas was like water and like everything else was absolutely flavourless. Chicken masala is traditionally a rich deeply flavoured dish - in this instance it tasted like watered down regular chicken curry - the meat had also disintegrated to the point it was falling apart and the dish was likely not made fresh. The worst was probably the shrimp. They had not been cleaned and each still sported a bulging "vein" effectively rendering them inedible.

It's a shame this restaurant has simply given up and is trying to squeeze a few more pennies from their food cost instead of simply preparing well executed and fresh food. I cannot recommend this restaurant - you might as well just burn your money.

Good East Indian food. I consider this east Indian Restaurant my "more affordable" East Indian restaurant. The food is good, a little more fast food than East India Company, but really, it works for me. I recommend the Butter chicken and the Navatran.

We went there for dinner with my sis and bro-inlaw and nearly had the place to ourselves on a quiet sun eve 7ish. The service was attentive, kept our plates cleared and our water pitchers full. Between us we had everything on the buffet. I am not a huge Indian food fan but was pleased with the butter chicken, goat, and just about everything else. My wife and sis said the (forgive the ignorance) spinach/cheese dish was very good as were the samosas. Overall we were pleased with the taste and price. Oh, almost forgot the fresh naan, very good, nice and chewy and crispy at the same time. I would go back and maybe next time on a fri or sat when there is a show.

Went there yesterday for the dinner buffet, me and my pal were the only one's there and we were there for about an hour. Odd, but whatever. Decently priced at $19 which included naan bread. I fully enjoyed the butter chicken but didn't like the fact there were bones in every other meat dish. On the whole i enjoyed but don't think I will be going back there.

Just Alright. I am giving this restaurant a positive vote only because there isn't enough I can complain about to warrant a dislike vote. My family and I had the dinner buffet for $14.99. My dad though, who only wanted butter chicken ordered the butter chicken off the menu for I believe $11.99, which sadly was just a small sized dish that I saw our waitress fill from the buffet. I thought for the high price (compared to the buffet) he would have at least had it made fresh and would have received more of it. I thought the buffet had a good selection of the typical dishes complete with tasty samosas. Unfortunately, everything was just average tasting. There were no dishes that stood out and nothing that would have me running back anytime soon. Service was good. We also came on a night (I believe they have it every 2 weeks on either a Friday or Saturday) for the belly dancing. The woman put on a talented show for at least 15 minutes if not longer and it made the evening more enjoyable and fun.

Absolutely awesome Indian Cuisine! We had the lunch buffet and it was all great. Lots of flavour and good assortment. We will be back to try the dinner menu!

Weekends Only. Ok, this is another restaurant, its not that i dont hate it, but i dont always like it.. it is just OK.

So we have tried the buffet during the week, and the food is well old.. dry... not good or fresh... so we stopped going during the week.

The weekends are more busier so the turnover on the buffet is better. However, there is only about 8 trays worth of food if that. it does change from time to time and not always the same old... the sauce that goes over the samosas is great though.. one of the best... sooooo good i wish i could buy it, but they will give you some in a container when you leave if you want.. score..

The desserts for the buffet is limited, but the rice pudding is good.

Overall the buffet though small it is very flavorful and filling, its really all i need, but for the price i wish there was a bit more selection, i dont order off the menu as we dont like that its about 7-10 dollars for one thing when we want more then just one thing.

Downfall..... they seem pushy, and during the week buffet isnt good at all.

Plus this one time they were ringing us in, and they forgot to charge us for i think a pop, i think the cook was the the cash register then the owner came over to finish the sale, as he was the server as well.

anyways he forgot, and i already paid in debit... so he said ohfund-raisingre fundraising and they had a thing at the front to put modidn'tn, but i didnt have any change or cash on me, so they just stared us down, i said i would pay debit but he insisted on may putting money in the dish, it wadidn'tward and didnt know what to do, as i did explain i had no cash so we just left LOL...

oh well, its ok... lots of room big parties can go there.

Miss.Pink

No service because we used a coupon. Had a horrible experience at Charisma Of India Restaurant 2 nights ago. We went in and we had a coupon from the entertainment book for buy one get one entree. The waitress tried to upsell us on the buffet which wasn't worth it as I wasnt super hungry and it would of been 30+ dollars instead of 17 with no leftovers.

Well once we gave our order to her that was it.We ordered Butter Chicken, Veggie Korma and 2 naan. She brought it to the table and never came to see us again. There were only 2 other couple in the ENTIRE restaurant so its not like she was busy.

I don't understand why they put coupons in these books if they don't want people to use them. They made me feel cheap and uninvited if I didn't want the buffet.

Then when she FINALLY came back to our table about 10 minutes after we had stacked our plates and were done eating, she basically ripped the food out of my hands when I asked for our leftovers packed up. And she asked which ones i wanted which I found strange. When I said all of them she huffed away.

This is sad as I do normally love their buffet and this is the first time the service was horrible. And we really felt that it was because we were using a coupon. We will have to find a new East Indian Buffet place.

Buffet is very tasty friendly service and the best samosas in the city

Great. Our experience was quite different with regards to customer service: All staff were very attentive and exceedingly polite/welcoming.

Great food at the buffet! Reasonable price for it.
Very nice decor.

Fantastic food and staff. I have been to Charaisma many times and I have never been disappointed. The food is first-class, and flavourful without being hot, unless you select the clearly labelled hot items. The lunch buffet is wonderful and the friends I have met there all return time and again. If you like the food and service, please pay with cash so the credit card company doesn't take its 10%!

Hit or miss. Sometimes I think I like that lace, but sometimes I ask myself why did I go there.
Food is good, but price. Still, it is good. And if you are lucky to be there on day when the owner is not there, then it is great experience. He is rude and ignorant person. You can see if he likes you or not and it is not really pleasant feeling when you just want to enjoy nice food with you friends.

The customer service at this restaurant was shockingly bad. The manager became upset with my boyfriend Bc we had some food left over on our plates.
