Review Chaeban Ice Cream - Winnipeg

Barry Bissoondatt
Delicious ice cream on a hot day! I was super impressed with the selection of non-dairy options. I tried two and they were both creamy and flavourful. The staff were pleasant, and the space is lovely. There's also a cute, little, riverside park right around the in which to sit and enjoy your ice cream.

The ice creams were amazing in both texture and flavour. I would suggest trying Abir Al Sham, a very subtle but amazing flavour combination. Salty Carl was really great too.

WOW! What a Winnipeg gem. The ice cream is prefect. Super creamy and not too sweet. Overly sweet ice cream is sickening and the ratio to sweet and creamy in their flavors is perfect! We have tried many flavors and like them all. I typically buy them from Vita Health as they will take the jars back at the store directly and give you a $1 refund on your next jar or just a refund altogether if you aren't buying anymore ice cream.

I can't rave about this place enough. The ice cream is honestly out of this world. The flavours are unlike any in Ontario, the ingredients are fresh and locally-sourced and the prices are SO reasonable! I highly HIGHLY recommend the Mona Mamoul! We had some of everything and were lucky enough to get a cappuccino as the owner was testing out their new machine. Fabulous stuff!

I can't eat the ice cream here because I'm allergic to both dairy and nuts, but my mom absolutely loves this place. Whenever I'm in the area (let's be honest, I'm usually here to shop at Game Knight), my mom tags along on purpose so that I can take her to Chaeban. She usually gets the Glen Coconut, but they have a lot of other dairy free and vegan options, even down to the cone. Some flavors are only available as a pint, which means one can't get it in a cone, only in a cup. This doesn't really make sense to me and I think customers should be given the option, especially since Chaeban's waffle cones are homemade. Either way, my mom loves this place over any other ice cream place in the city, so I guess these folks get 5 stars from me. 😁

I love Chaeban. Their ice cream is top notch, always friendly and super inclusive. They have flights so you can check out multiple flavours in one go. Their red velvet features is one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had. Love that they host events and are community oriented. Highly recommend you stop in and check them out.

Oh my gosh, how amazing is this place especially the ice cream and the customer service. Just couple minutes ago, went there to try some ice cream and it was amazing and the lady with hijab 🧕 is so welcome, happy to serve and very grateful. Trust me anytime I want ice creams I’ll come to this place. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR YOU give it a shot. Thanks for amazing service and excellent ice cream 🍨

We were greeted when we came in, and asked if we'd ever been there. As we hadn't, the gentleman explained the shop and offered us a menu. We given samples of the flavours we wanted to try. It was delicious!! We will definitely go back. The place was very clean and had lots of parking and seating.

By the far the best ice cream I've ever had, and so many amazing flavours to enjoy! Love the flight option so you can sample more than one, and the home-made waffle cones are made to perfection! Friendly and helpful service, relaxing atmosphere to sit and relax - either inside or out. Just one thing to remember when you go - take a cooler bag with you so you can take a jar of your favourite flavour home with you! Love the product, love the story — fabulous job Chaeban! <3 #besticecreamever #worththetriptoWinnipeg

I finally stop this past Saturday and I’m in love. I bought 1 pint and had to go back today for couple of pints. Delicious and the price is totally worth it.

We will definitely be back. I had a waffle cone with almond-o Salazar and Abir al sham. I also had a bite of Baba Beets and Anna Bananutella. The almond ice cream was very good. Had ground almonds as opposed to an artificial almond flavoring. Abir was very rich and incredible. Very floral and love at first bite. I'll be trying the sundae next time. Anna banananutella was really good. Lots of banana, a food I don't care for much, but they took it to a different level! Waffle cone was top notch. Staff were friendly, atmosphere was great. All tips are donated to a different charity each month.

I'm a self-proffessed ice cream aficionado... I've had ice cream in as many different cities as I could, and this was the best I've ever had. Bar none.

Delicious ice-cream and the best staff EVER. I'am all sold coz it has the vegan option. I went there with my husband and tried Nina-colada which was bit sweet for my taste buds but i still loved it. Looking forward to try more flavours.

My sons and I had the plain Jane, prairie berry and the coffee flavoured one. They were all delicious. Thanks for the free treat for me on Mother’s Day!!

Love the idea of the “flight” of 4 flavours. Portion size was enough for two or three people for $9. The Donnie Darkococo was my favourite.

Absolutely amazing, an IT place for ice cream like you’ve never had it before.

Portions arent huge, but this is a prime example of quality over quantity. Amazing flavors, all original, and delicious. Perfect balance of flavor with texture. Looking forward to my next visit!

Not trying to brag or anything but I have traveled all over the world and searching for the best chocolate ice cream is always on my list of "to-do's." Chaeban's ice cream is in the top five I have ever tasted. Donnie Darcocoa is creamy, rich, smooth and oh-so chocolaty. My god, it's good. And the Almond-o Salazar has huge chunks of almond, not just a few tiny slivers I am used to getting in other places. I go every week and have to try and pace myself each time I order. Otherwise, I wolf down the double scoop serving in a matter of minutes. It's that good!

Is it pricey? Yes, a little. Is it worth it? Every single penny. I'll never go back to the places on Corydon; they pale in comparison. Chaeban's is outstanding.
The decor is bright and fresh and ultra clean. Parking is at the back.
The staff are always friendly and courteous. And Calvin deserves special mention.
Winnipeg is lucky to have a place like this!

Was awesome and delicious especially the salty Carl. Staff were very friendly and moved very fast through the line. Would 100% recommend this place!

My husband and I visited Chaeban for a date night yesterday and had a great experience. The atmosphere is bright and inviting with modern but ice-cream parlour-esque decor. There is WAY more space and seating than the old Banana Boat which is nice. So many things to love about this place: they source all their ingredients locally including pasteurizing their own fresh-from-the-cow milk from Stonewall; they try to be as environmentally friendly as possible including using compostable take-out containers (if you eat in you'll get glass dishes and metal spoons); their flavours are delectably creative and fresh and aren't overly sugary; they accommodate gluten and dairy intolerances (I got to try both of their dairy free ice creams and they were fantastic... nice to have something different besides the basic vanilla or chocolate); they donate their tip jar to a different charity every month. The amazing ice cream, friendly staff, and warm environment were definitely worth the slightly higher price for this ice cream. I hope this place really catches on and is around for a long time, because we definitely want to keep coming back!!

The ice cream were amazing! But I think people overhyped the place. Salty Carl was my fav ice cream out of the four that I bought. Anyway, it was kind of hard to find parking nearby especially when there's many people coming in all at once. I will still come back though.

Best ice cream I’ve had in Winnipeg by far! The abir al sham flavour was amazing and brought me back to my childhood. My daughter really enjoyed the plain Jane flavour, it was delicious.

Great ice cream that is made fresh in store! Can be a bit of a wait (especially if you come during the evening or on weekends). Staff are very friendly and polite! I wish they sold smoothies or milkshakes though.

I'm not much of an ice cream person, but this stuff is my first choice if that's the dessert I crave. Much much different than any other ice cream I've had in the past and I mean that in the best way possible!

Took my kids here today (7 & 9). We got the Flights (4 different flavours of icecream). We had Salty Carl, Reese Piece, Prairie Barry, and Coconut Glen. All three of us enjoyed all the flavours, and the staff were super friendly and pleasant.

7 year old's favourite flavour was the salted caramel one (Salty Carl), and the 9 year old liked Reese Piece best. Portion sizes were slightly on the smaller side, but the ice cream is rich and flavourful and we don't like to overeat when it comes to treats, so it was just right for us. Not super sugary, no artificial dyes or flavourings and it's all locally sourced which is amazing.

We'll definitely be back for more.

Chaeban Ice Cream, open now in the spot where the old Banana Boat used to be has created quite a stir since it opened. Not the least was the audacity to open an ice cream story in the middle of the cold of a Winnipeg winter. Yesterday I attended a social media event to which I had been invited by the Chaeban social media coordinator Kristi Nikkel. It was a chance to learn a little about the ice cream store’s story. To learn a little bit about how they make their ice cream and to sample some of the product.

Stopped by this place for the first time. I ordered the Ana Bananutella and was tasty and delicious. You can taste real chunks of almonds and chocolates and has the right amount of sweetness which I love. The place has a modern fresh classic decor and pleasant atmosphere. Parking is at the back of the new building. Be back to try other flavors.

First trip in , and left pretty disappointed. Ordered a Sundae to go. Girl started putting it together. Ice cream is already in and she mentions shes out of Bananas ( part of the ingredients ) . Asked if she could replace with Strawberries, which i agreed to but Salted caramel would have gone much better with the bananas. She presents it to me on a tray with no lid , in a glass jar. I explain i had ordered to go and she agreed to remake it. But then she serves everyone behind me in line so i have to wait around 10 more minutes for the remake ?Finished product is at least 30% whipped cream , maybe more towards 50% with 2 little scoops of ice cream for 9 bucks.

I'm all for paying a little more for premium product .. the service was not great and i wasnt satisfied with what i got.. i literally could not taste the ice cream over the whipped cream.

Not sure ill be back.

First visit to Chaeban Ice Cream.

Went for the flight of ice creams: four scoops for $9 to taste with a 4.5yr old. Admittedly I ordered flavours I wanted to try, but in essence this place is a more "mature" take on an ice cream parlour in general.

The four flavours we tried:

Anna BanaNutella: a straightforward Banana Nutella ice cream. The last spoonful had a nice chunk of chocolate in it, wish it had more chunks!

Salty Carl: salted caramel. Nice balanced flavour to me, too salty for the 4.5 year old.

Abir Al Sham: a floral flavour - interesting in contrast to the others, almost like a palate cleanser, but the least pleasing. Both the staff scooping noted difficulty in scooping it and it was texturally a bit more icy/sticky than the others. 4.5 year old immediately said it tasted like soap after the first spoonful and refused to have another taste.

Reece Piece: rich peanut butter ice cream with delicious chunks of milk chocolate. Both myself and the kiddo liked this one most.

Overall service was friendly and efficient. Interior is sleek, minimal and a bit hip. In the end, ice cream being a family affair for us, I think we'll gravitate to more kid friendly options most of the time. Many folks were picking up pints to take home and I can definitely see the appeal of having some on hand to satisfy my grown-up cravings.
