Review Oscar's Deli - Winnipeg

Luna D. K.
Very good location and parking is quite easy with street parking available (and Winnipeg is offering 1 complimentary hour parking daily). The place offers quite a lot of sitting and with covid you can have a piece of mind that you are not sitting in a crowded restaurant. The food is authentic, and there are quite a lot of options on the menu for everyone. Staff are friendly, and food came out very fast. I would go back for the fries, matzo ball soup, and the brisket sandwich. Second review! Had to go back for matzah ball soup and more sandwiches. So delicious!

This ain't your average sandwich. Oscar's Deli takes it to a new level of flavourful food. Amazing food! I don't remember what I ordered because I just showed a picture of something I saw online. I was looking forward to this Friday lunch for a week and I was very happy with the outcome. My fiancée was jealous that I went without here and I ate it so quick that I couldn't take a photo in time. Definitely, will be back soon to try some other items on the menu.

Very heartbroken to say that after nearly a decade of this being the ultimate comfort food the new owners have changed the menu and quality. It’s terrible. Worst brisket I’ve ever had. I wish I could say something positive but honestly they’re just using the name now. It should close.

Been here few times now and love the food. The staff is so friendlly and the new owners are so welcoming. Old school hospitality. Definitely recommend this place.

This used to be one of my go to places, but no longer. Portions (including the corned beef sandwich) seem a lot smaller and the mozza ball soup had the smallest mozza balls I’ve ever seen along with skin still attached to the chicken

Loved the atmosphere, lots of vegan and vegetarian options , defiantly going back for their vegetarian burger and falafel plate.

A friend said we need to eat here, so happy we had lunch there today. Extremely friendly staff! The poutine was amazing. Spicy Brisket Sandwich ... Soooooooooo Good! Will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Fresh bread, crisp dill pickle, fast server, but the rest was disappointing. $12 for corned beef sandwich, 1/2 dill pickle, very small scoop of potato salad. Mild mustard (I'd asked for hot) on one side of bread, nothing on the other. Corned beef didn't even go to the edges of the bread.  10:30am on a Monday morning, only 2 other customers around so can't blame it on being busy, I expected a big deli sandwich and got something a fraction of the size.

For the last couple months I have been ordering a cheese burger the way I like it from Skip the dishes and its been awesome...until yesterday when I decided to change it up an ordered a rubin and it says a quarter pound of corned beef, there sure as hell wasn't a quarter pound of corned beef on my very very tiny sandwich and it was just the sandwich I ordered...I was so disappointed because the burgers are the bomb here! And for almost 10$ it was a rip. Will I order again, yes but Ill stick with my cheese burger.

Excellent deli meats, quality rye bread, best fries in town - this place is a must visit - have the dirty burger and potato salad, you won't regret it!

I went for a take out lunch and arrived at 12:10pm,  the front area was packed with people doing just that. I noticed that the dining area wasn't too busy, lots of open tables so I figured I would sit in. Waitress immediately came up to my table and took my order. As I waited more and more people started to come in and fill the tables and place their orders. Well 25 mins later these tables were all eating and I was still sitting there with my water. I just got up and left. Not sure if it was the waitress or their system but tables of 2 and 4 were getting their lunch first after sitting down 10 mins after I sat. I have had their food before, like others have said nothing great. Last time I give this place a go.

Review for burger week 2016.<br/>I've had 8 burgers in 4 days. This one makes my top 3 list. It's topped with the juiciest deep fried pickle I've ever had. The bun is fresh and thick to account for the loads of protein stuffed between them. Homemade fries on the side make the perfect combination. Definitely worth a try.

I have wanted to try this place for years, but was never downtown during their hours of business. After two trips back to back,my high expectations were trampled. The prices are way to high for what your getting, and when they say deli, they mean like Safeway deli. I expected maybe meat that had been prepared on site, not chubs of meat from the local wholesalers. I had chicken soup the first day that wasn't bad,but on day two I ordered a French onion soup that was basically brown water with onions that were grey and clearly not caramelized with the time required to make a proper onion soup. Two or three salad croutons with five or six slivers of white cheese. My god,how hard is it to make soup? The sandwich was passable, but that was it. Something you'd make yourself for a snack if you were in a hurry. Flat and uninspired. That with the price I paid for it make this definitely not a do over. I'll go to Safeway, buy a loaf of Kub and a little corned beef, and have the same thing going for me,and save a bundle. Goodbye Oscars.

This is a bustling down town lunch spot that is always busy and there is a reason why...the food is delicious!  Service is pretty good and atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired but the food makes up for it.  All of the sandwiches are fresh and great, with no skimping on the fillings.  The soups are also excellent.  They are quite famous for all of their salads as well, which are monstrous in size and awesome.  I've never had a bad experience here, I definitely recommend it!

Loved the crispy crust on the handmade, juicy and messy #dirtyburger patty. Great flavourful taste. Best buns in town! The fries were also very tasty.

Visited today and was so so happy with the experience! Kept it simple with a cheeseburger and fries, but added coleslaw and "half a dill" the burger was flavourful and cooked well and was on a wonderfully soft bun. Shoestring fries were crispy and didn't taste of the oil at all. The coleslaw is a vinegar base not a cream dressing and was great as well. Portions were huge for the price and everyone at the table was satisfied with lunch.

Had the Dirty Burger with chili fries and the only complaint that I have is that I did not get enough napkins! The other meats were grilled to perfection and lay atop a gooey, runny fried egg. The toppings were fresh and the chili was amazing!! Full of flavour and I left with a full tummy. Will be returning with a few friends to "do the dirty" again!!

The dirty burger for 'Le Burger Week', is INSANE! Very good bun, meat, and all around taste. The only problem is that now I have the meat sweats! I hope it makes it to your menu or as a special (only I could do with one patty instead of two) LOL I still love the cakes, soups, and everything here. Everything is made fresh or from scratch, each day. A great family business!

We tried this place as recommended by a friend for a small catering of 10-15 people at the office. We pre-ordered two sandwich trays with drinks to go with it. Their menu trays has a variety selections of sandwiches you can choose or you can request a sandwich of your own if it's not on their menu list. The service was friendly and efficient and was delivered in a timely manner as specified. Overall, the sandwiches was OK but nothing spectacular to rave about.

Mediocre first visit. It's one of those places where you walk in and no one greets you or acknowledges you, so you're standing there for 10 minutes before you can talk to anyone, order, or be seated. <br/><br/>I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, coleslaw and potato salad to-go. The coleslaw was really greasy and unimpressive, but the sandwich and potato salad was good. I will go back to try it again but as of now I'm not in any rush to do so.

It’s been a while since I was last at Oscar’s. When I worked at L.C. Taylor I would walk over there every so often on my lunch. It was more brunch time today, but I decided I would go for the lunch rather than the breakfast offerings. I ordered a Reuben Platter, substituting a Matzoh Ball soup for the potato salad.

Very pricey and not all quality ingredients. I am working at a new location downtown and was not familiar with all the places nearby for a quick lunch. A coworker heartily recommended Oscar's Deli, which is about 100 feet away and apparently has a great veggie sandwich (which is what she ate today). I decided to give it a try and opted for the Lettuce, Tomato and Cheese on Rye with a side potato salad and 1/2 dill pickle for take out. I was quite taken aback by the $10.45 price tag, but decided to reserve judgment until I'd eaten. Sadly, I was not impressed with my lunch. Yes, it was a relatively thick sandwich, but it was on small slices of bread, making it a small sandwich and, while there were 4 slices of cheese on the sandwich, it was processed white cheddar, exactly like the kind you get at subway, which made the sandwich taste pretty much like 1/2 a pared-down Subway sub at double the price. Ok, I'm over simplifying...the bread was better than Subway...it was super soft, fresh rye bread, which you can't get at Subway...but that alone is not worth the $5 price difference, considering I could have bought almost 3 entire loaves of that bread at the deli to take home for the price of my meal. The potato salad was ok, a little tangier than I normal make mine, but still good. It also didn't have enough eggs for my taste, but that's typical. The dill pickle was great, but I've never met a pickle I didn't like. All in all, I feel like I paid double what my lunch was worth and it was not a satisfying lunch. If I ate meat, I might be more inclined to give them a second try and get some kind of deli meat sandwich, but I won't be going back for a vegetarian sandwich. That being said, they looked to have a pretty good breakfast menu, so there's a good chance I'll head there for breakfast some time.

Feels like Home. Loved this place! Went for breakfast; typical menu, good portion sizes. Lots of salami; I've never had it in an omelet before. I'll have to go back and try their reuben some time. <br/><br/>This is the kind of family-run place that we're lucky to have around! I want to support this type of business.

Best deli in Winnipeg! The food is amazing, service is fast and friendly. You will like everything you eat here. The hours have changed so they're open until 5pm monday - friday and are also open until 7pm on Jets games evenings. Beer is cheap at 3.25$.

Great reuben and clubhouse!. The location is a bit hidden on Hargrave on the main floor of an office building. The decor is nothing interesting but the food and service are great! They have various daily specials. I like the Thursday special - clubhouse with half dill for $7.95. You get a nice clubhouse with crispy bacon on white bread (or rye if you want). The dill pickle is delicious.<br/><br/>"Oscar's Rubin" platter ($10.75) includes 1/4 lb corned beef with cheese and sauerkraut on rye is yum. The size here is nothing close to the deli places I've tried in Montreal but that's a good thing as I find it more of an approachable size. Not sure why he spells his reuben like "Rubin"...anyhow, I realized that I've never had a reuben before and wonder why I've never ordered one sooner?? Great sandwich but half is enough for me at lunch as you also get coleslaw or potato salad. The coleslaw is tangy and not overdressed. <br/><br/>Service is very prompt and warm. Nice place for comfort food and a fast lunch.

Now this is a deli !!!. Old school, good sandwiches, potato salads, totally a dive but very tasty.

Oscar’s Deli has been in business since 1930, with roots in Winnipeg’s North End. In 1982, they moved to their current location on Hargrave Street, where they cater to the downtown lunch-time crowd. Their hours of operation reflect this; you’ll have to try this place during the day as they’re not open in the evenings. Oscar’s Deli tends to get very busy, but we’ve never had trouble getting a seat for two. The atmosphere in Oscar’s is upbeat, friendly and rushed (for lack of a better explanation!). They realize most customers are on a lunch break, and t
