Review Shawarma Khan - Winnipeg

Justin Woodcock
Ordered catering from here for an event I was hosting. I chose their option 1 @ 10$/person. That got everyone a shawarma and a large helping of garlic roasted potatoes. It was tasty and the service was fast and friendly. Thomas made ordering a breeze and I felt confident in my order. Will definitely order again.

Was craving a Shawarma plate so I stopped in and tried the "Trio". It was delicious. The service was great and the store was clean. 5 stars if more meat was provided.

Chickpeas salad and beet & apple salad were really good, especially the beet didn't have bitter taste. Chips were really tasty too. The falafel balls were ok.

I popped in for lunch today, for the first time in ages (maybe a year?), and everyone recognized me and said hello. It totally made my day. Such a cool place, amazing staff and awesome food!

Shawarma Khan never disappoints!! Their food is always fresh and very delicious! Obby and all of his staff are so friendly. This is the best shawarma place in Winnipeg! It’s the real deal! MICU thanks you !!
Aaron Brykaliuk
Fantastic. From pickled cucumbers multiple options on hot peppers. Hummus and garlic spread to a great pita(thin so it doesn't overpower a bread taste in comparison to the sandwich tastes). Then the sides were the bonus. The beets and green apple salad was amazing. Highly recommend this place.

It’s a typical Middle East flavour restaurant, you get all kinds of shawarma wraps like beef, chicken and falafeel. You can definitely fulfill your hunger as they serve big portions. I was not very happy with the taste as I have tried shawarma before and it was amazing.
Carolyn Rose
LOVE ALL the food, however the PITA chips with the garlic OR hummus is a delicious grab and go snack. It's right beside the register. You can't stop at one chip! In fact, you'll find yourself running in to grab one to go for a pick-me-upper I promise YOU ‼💥

Bland, very disappointing.

This used to be a great place to get Shawarma. Unfortunately, the past few times I've gone to the Pembina and now the downtown location, their food has gone downhill in quality. First off, the past 8 times I've gone, they were "out of wings" and one of those times was when they opened for the day. I don't think they actually serve wings.I went there a couple weeks ago and I brought a guest and raved about how good Shawarma is (especially the Albert st location) and sadly it was a huge letdown. The humus was watered down, it was so watered down it spread out over my whole plate :(, the meat was dry and chewy and the worst part was the potatoes; they were literally black and shriveled and apparently the staff didn't think this was an issue because served they them as is. My guest was sorely disappointed, but not as much as I was having brought someone new to this establishment.
This is what happens when more than one location opens; the quality drops and the owner no longer cares.

Quick, healthy filling meal. The Wrath of Khan is my favourite (especially with the sliced up pickled pink things). The salads are great. Keep up the great work!

After eating at the Pembina location I had to wonder how they are getting the rave reviews. I ate there earlier this week and was disappointed. The pita bread was stale, by the end of the sandwich it was like dry chalk. They have a selection of veggies to add but the actual meat serving was quite small. Other than a garlicy taste there was little flavour. I couldn't believe he used cold meat instead of shaving it off fresh and he WEIGHED it, still can't believe it.

I've had Shawarma where ever its available in Winnipeg, its been disappointing compared to what I grew up with in Ottawa. One exception was Shawarma Time but not under the new ownership, the quality and great taste are gone.

One thing that is consistent in Winnipeg is the over saltiness, don't know why they all make it so salty. Pegger's need to travel to Ottawa then come back and rate our options again.
Kevin Dyck
Terrible shawarma! Completely cold and flavourless. The ones they serve at the stadium for Bomber games are also brutal and a total rip off. Baraka and Best Pizza and Donair are infinitely better.

Went to Shwarma Khan twice for lunch while visiting Winnipeg. The service was friendly and prompt and the chicken shawarma plate and wrap were delicious (two separate meals). The pita chips on the plate were really good, as was the beet salad. Really good value.

Was excited to finally try this place out as I had heard good things. Got a meat-trio shawarma plate to-go with beef, lamb and chicken. There was a little bit of rice, roast potatoes, about a tablespoon of tabouli, and a little beet and apple salad. Condiments included a tablespoon of hummus, a tablespoon of garlic sauce, some onions, banana peppers and pickled turnips. Gotta say, it was disappointing. There was sooo little meat (that I can barely comment on it) and no pita. The pickled turnips are usually my absolutely favourite part, but theirs were so salty that I couldn't eat them. The potatoes were chewy, as though they'd been sitting in the warming tray overnight. For the price, this just wasn't worth it. Especially when Best Pizza and Donair's shawarma plate is bigger and better for less money. Will not be returning.

Sooooooo good, super friendly staff, really accommodating and helpful since we were new to the menu. Good portion. Good real good. Got a falafel plate and they made the falafel fresh. Can't wait to go back, one of my new favourite places. Nice change for once.

Been meaning to try this place for a while now and am I happy I did. Great place to grab a quick bite or even take your meal to go. I got the Beef and Lamb plate, the plates give you a lot more so you get to try a little bit of everything! The rice is enjoyable and not super heavy. The meat is flavourful, but not moist or juicy and a bit more on the dry side. I chose the Tabbouleh salad (parsley, bulgur wheat, red onions, cucumbers, tomatoes and spices), along with the beet and apple salad, a unique combination but works well. The hummus and tahini sauce were both delicious, very flavourful! The potatoes were lightly seasoned which was great, because everything else is full of flavour. My only complaint is that my food was barely warm and I ate it like 32 seconds after I got it. I for sure enjoy my food more when it's hot. Also, the hot sauce wasn't actually hot, so that was a bit disappointing, but other than that this is a great place! Staff is super friendly, it's in a great area of the city and of course the food is good! You just might want gum for after, cause the garlic tends to stay in your mouth.
The Heavy Hitters
Good quick food. Falafel patties are very tasty. Shawarma and falafels can be made into platters or pitas. The tahini and garlic sauce portions are generous and extra delicious when slathered on your whole meal. We like the salads as well, especially the tabbouleh.
J Waterer
Unreal tasty and authentic. Meat is juicy, toppings are delicious, guys are sweet and friendly. Definitely recommended eating in the Exchange.

I've had Shawarma all over North America...this one rated in the one of the worst. Chicken portion was small. Chicken was not freshly carved off the spit. Dried out and in a tray by the salads. When I asked about chicken portion for large plate it only contained 4oz as per there policy.
Anyways...I'm sure there is a better place in Winnipeg. I will keep looking.
I did like the few pita chips that I received.
But for $15...left feeling ripped off.
Jess
Really good food!! So glad i tried it, i have been dying to go back again!! I would recommend this place to anyone :)
I enjoyed their side salads.
Scott MacDonald
Favorite place to eat hands down. The fact that all the sauces and meats are prepared from scratch and that they toast the shwarma before they serve it puts them miles above the competition.
NomNomSauce
Had the Beef/chicken/lamb/falafel combo signature shawarma it was delicious but $15 for a sandwich is a bit overpriced, I would've been happier if the sandwich was as big as a large Burrito from Burrito Del Rio. Will go for the other items on the menu next time.
Joe McMichaels
I've had shawarmas from basically everywhere you possibly can in the city. Although Baraka is a close second, Shawarma Khan is the best. They get the edge as their additional toppings that you can add to the shawarma take it to a whole new level. They have several salads. beans/chickpeas and tortilla chips that you can add and I would highly recommend you do so. Sadly, you can't get these additional toppings at the Bomber games so their shawarmas at IGF are nowhere near as good. The shawarma itself is probably better at Baraka on Main, but the additional toppings Shawarma Khan offers makes it my favourite shawarma in the city.
AnnahcFoodie
I have always loved the downtown location, I have always gotten the beef/lamb platter and am always satisfied. But I tried the platter at the new location that opened up down Pembina as its close to home, and I barely got any meat...and the container didn't close properly either. Tastes awesome as usual, but a bit disappointed.
Nedbraden74
It was the first time I had been to Shawarma khan I always wanted to try it, so I finally tried it today. I must say it was alright I mean the food was good not that tasty. I don't see what all the fuss is about. The servers were not very friendly either.

I was craving for a different kind of dessert after a heavy lunch somewhere at the Exchange District and happened to just walk in at Shawarma Khan. I never thought they serve dessert at this place. It was one of the best home made Baklava I've ever tasted.Be back to try their shawarma's.
Melanie
Super yummy! We get Shawarma Khan from Skip the Dishes fairly often and it's always so good. The garlic sauce is delicious, the chickpea salad is fresh with cucumber, tomatoes and onion, and the pita chips are crispy, flavorful, but sometimes over- salted.
Zach
The food is good, tasty enough, but I am skeptical about how fresh it is. They seem to advertise made fresh everyday, but then again, the majority of what I hear from this place is about the owner, not the food. I might go back if I knew I could get something other than the wrath of khan with a side of mr. owner. The whole place seems like a platform to keep in the spotlight.
Go Blue
Had Shawarma from IG Field. Tasted like it was frozen and thawed out a few times over. Gross. Definitely not fresh. What does Shawarma Khan mean anyway? The name seems weird to me.
WinnipegFoodie
So tasty...so...soooo tasty.. I went right at noon, peak of the lunch hour, and sure enough there was a line of probably 10-12 people ahead of me, but the shawarma pros got me through within about 10-15 minutes and still had 15-20 minutes left on my parking to sit and enjoy it. I ordered a regular (they also offer a large size) chicken shawarma wrap, with all the fixins and you know that moment when you get exactly what you're craving....it's just about euphoric. That's what happened. And the added slight crunch of the panini pressed wrap...oh man...like something out of a movie. And all for what..like, $6? That's what I'm talking about....
Yup...i'll be back.
Deliciousfoodomg
A miss for me.. In addition to the hit or miss parking, I'd rather just drive 10 more minutes to Baraka so I can taste the same menu but 100x more authentic.

Great food Fresh as it gets. Had a great meal at the Shawarma Khan. Fresh vegatables with great taste A must go to place in Winnipeg. Beef lamb wrap was fabulous .

Shawarma Khan has ruined all other falafels. I finally made my way to Shawarma Khan today. I wasn't expecting much, as most of these kinds of places (in my opinion) really focus on making the meats taste good, but come up with a generic falafel to appease the non-meat eaters. That was so far from the case here.
I really went in expecting not to like it (should have known better, given that the place was PACKED). As I watched what looked like a very small portion of falafel being crumbled onto my wrap, I wondered if it would be filling enough. I needn't have worried. The wrap was large, and literally bursting with flavor. The falafel was really tasty, the sauces were delicious, the pickled jalapenos and banana peppers added just the right kick. I had the hot sauce, but I didn't notice it specifically and it definitely wasn't so hot it was fiery. The real star, though, in my opinion was the pickled turnips. I am not a turnip fan. I actually despise them, but I can get on board with anything pickled, so decided to take a chance. The depth of flavor in these was so incredible. Yes, it was a pickle, but it had a savoury, rich and salty flavor that I've never had in a pickle before. I have to assume that comes from the flavor of the turnip itself, which has me wondering if I have given turnips a fair shake.

Needless to say, I loved it (and can we talk about those pita chips?? Thank goodness I heard the man in line before me order, or else I never would have thought to get them...they alone are worth the trip...which is a little far in the cold, but definitely walkable once the spring weather decides what its doing). My one beef, if I had to have one, was that the act of grilling the wrap caused the foil wrapper to stick to the pita, so I had to pick off little bits of foil while eating my meal, but that's a small price to pay. Oh, and speaking of price, it's a little on the high side for fast food, but the quality, freshness and over-all amazing flavor make it worth-while.
Just writing this review is making me hungry for more, so it definitely won't be long before I'm back!

Bigger than my head. I stumbled into shawarma Khan this afternoon after googling for the nearest joint to my hotel. I'd been up since 3am and it was about 1230, hasn't really eaten, and I honestly wasn't coherent. The guys behind the counter were courteous and friendly, hooked me up with a killer beef+lamb wrap, complete with ludicrously purple picked radishes, and this thing was bigger than my head. It has given my back my soul today, and I needed to share the glory with everyone else. give this place a shot, it's pretty damn good 5/5 would feast upon again

Decent prices for a good meal. Shawarma Khan is fast, easy, and fresh in the downtown area. While I'm never going to choose shawarma over sushi just by personal preference, I can still appreciate the freshness this place puts out. It's tasty and actually fairly good for you considering. The beet salad is delish and the chickpeas are good. The beef is very very good, great spices, and the chicken is very flavourful. Even the fried portions don't feel greasy so you can feel good about what you're eating.
If you're into this kind of food, I would highly suggest it!
Michael Buchanan
Its a shawarma baby. Not the best shawarma I have had & no where near the worst I have had. They are good I had the wrath of khan wrap it was a bit much I could only really taste the falafel, not that is a bad thing I love falafel but for close to half the price could get the falafel wrap. I would definitely come back hear again.
Breanne S
Best shawarma ever.. Confused about the negative reviews here.

This was my lunch spot when I worked in The Exchange District. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is addicting!

My go-to: Chicken shawarma plate. Rice, potatoes, double chickpea salad. Extra hot sauce and dressing! Try it!

No Khan Do A hugely disap.... No Khan Do

A hugely disappointing experience. I had the beef/lamb plate. A minuscule amount of flavourless meet on top of a pile of vegetables that themselves were tolerable. I left more than half my plate full I was so unimpressed. How 79% of people can "like" this place suggests to me that a great many family members are busy writing bogus reviews. My lunch mate felt the same way. The value for the money spent was wholly absent. The Pepsi was good, as was the hummus. I can buy those at a grocery store. I shall never go back again.

Loved Shawarma Khan!. I ate at local business, Shawarma Khan, this holiday season, during a visit from Montréal. I was impressed by my experience—especially by the freshness of the ingredients and the fact that the restaurant serves lamb. I highly recommend trying it out, if you haven't already!

Unreal Food.... First and foremost your taste buds must be gone if you think this place in bad. I have been to this place for sure a dozen times and never once have I been disappointed. Not many places in this city where you walk in with a line up out the door and the owner yells "Stay... it will only be 5 minutes" and it is..... Every staff member does a great job. The foods is full of flavor and freshness. Great Job!!!!!
Janellaaa
Yummm!. I was really impressed with the portion size and the quality of the food.
Yousef_reda
Worst.shawarma in winnjpeg. I love Mediterranean food and my mother owns a restaurant in Toronto so I have good judgment on that. Baraka is the best in the city. Sultan and shawarma.place take second place. Last place goes to this shot hole. Number one lettuce was old number 2 no turnip number 3 atm machine not work. Number 3 pricier then above
RobertJ
Nice!. A visit to the exchange district took me and my falafel-snob friends into Shawarma Khan. We liked it! A 9 out of 10 from the falafel snobs. Khan is a nice dude too in fact, all the staff were very friendly and they even threw in some complimentary pita chips. Yum. The place was spotless too.
Nate
I was a little worried about value for money when a online menue does not show there prices, I found the shawarma really good and the sides, I did not like the little quanity of meat I did receive on my plate, for value I would say way over priced and I left still hungry.
KPid
I tried this place for the first time yesterday. I love the location, it is such a great area. I ordered the beef/lamb plate and it was pretty good. I never had shawarma before, so I had no idea what to expect. The feel of the restaurant and food quality, in my honest opinon, is very much like a food court, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I thought it was ok, except that the servers seemed kinda stingy when serving the meat. It was as though they were counting each little piece. The salads were different, especially the chickpea one which I really enjoyed. Overall, the dining experience is not bad here, but nothing I would rush to again.
Gqkris
Not worth the money. 1st time visiting the restaurant. Was near closing at 8 pm. Tried the beef and lamb plate. Meat was cold, rice was cold, potatoes were old probably left from earlier. Nothing was fresh, assuming that's how things are when there's an hr left until close. And the beets were too sugary. Maybe that's the way they are. I don't know. The only thing that tasted the way they were suppose to was the chick peas. Everything pretty much tasted like last night's left overs. Never eating there at night ever. Not worth $$$ Imho. But that's just me.
Cheryl17
Great location, great price, great food. Tried this restaurant for the first time, thought it would be expensive, it is not. I was shocked at how reasonable the prices were...$5.99 for chicken shawarma and it was sooooo good! I've never had pickled turnip on a wrap before - the combination of ingredients was perfect! I'll be back for sure...bonus: all the Bomber pics. Love the Bombers and now love the shawarma :)
Kamiran Adel
I've been here many times, and it's always a different amount of meat, very dry last time I went.the shawarma joint on Pembina is best in the city right now.
Wpg4evr
Loved it!!. Very tasty food!! I had the chicken shawarma plate and it was amazing!! Apples in the beet salad was a new one for me but it worked so well! The parsley salad is very tasty and the chicken was tender and very tasty. The tzaziki sauce is very garlicky but it was to die for! And of course meeting Obby Khan was a lot of fun. I will be going back very soon.
Facebook User
Meh. Not enough meat or sauce; overpriced bread and lettuce, essentially. If I'm going to pay $10 for a wrap I should at least feel full when I'm done eating.
BradD
We had a birthday party for 30 people and had Shawarma Khan cater for dinner. The family was a bit skeptical but were quick to love the great taste of everything from the beef/lamb, chicken shawarma to the bean salad and roasted potatoes. Everyone had plenty to eat and we had enough for leftover for a few of us. Here’s a tip heat up left over shawarma in a dry pan on medium flip the wrap(s) after 5 minutes and crisp up the sides, worked great! We also had to order gluten free and citrus free dishes, Obby and the crew were able to accommodate and everyone left happy and full.
JoJo Bean
2nd time and I must say the food tasted better this time :)
NoSoupForYou
Obby! Obby! Obby!. They have some really good toppings you can get added to your shawarma, it's a damn shame they are so expensive to add though. That is my only complaint, as the shawarmas are delicious and very filling. If I want to pop in somewhere quick and get some food to go, this is my go-to place. It is also super cool to see Obby Khan, very friendly and genuinely interested in every customer that walks through the door.
Greg Thom
Good wraps. The wrath of khan was awesome but the salad not so much left a funny aftertaste. but would come back for another wrath of khan! i would pay $5 bucks extra for a chance to try and tackle khan :)

Save your money and head down to Ellice Ave.. Took the family out for dinner and it was an epic disaster. The four people who had chicken were trying to chew on dry white chicken jerky. The sides were somewhat tasty and that saved the day, No one asked how the meal was as the place is set up like a subway and pita pit. I dropped a C note and the dog had an expensive dinner. Like I said I`m heading to Ellice avenue the next time- less time on developing a franchise and more time working on the franchise. 2/10 on the score.

I love the beef & lamb wrap with lettuce, jalapeños,and pickled beets laden with Tahini and hot sauce. The side salads are all amazing! I work downtown and have eaten at Shawarma Khan once a week for the past 3 weeks! Highly recommend the Chick pea salad!
Rainn Willson
This place is awesome! Although tamed down just a little bit from the traditional shawarma, Kahn puts out a very good and shawarma for under $10. The hot sauce isn't overbearing, but leaves a nice warm glow in the back of you throat. I recommend this spot to anyone who want's a good Meditaranian meal.
Dmolchan
Lunch at Khan's. Myself and 3 coworkers tried this restaurant today.... excellent !!!....the chicken shawarma's were very good .....we also thought it was reasonably priced and staff were friendly and fun ...we went early and avoided the line up..we will definately go again.
Nyiiyu
Wasnt bad but it wasnt that great!. Went to Shawarma Khan for the first time, I dont want to knock it, it was tasty but it could of been a little better, more sauce and more garlic, I added hot sauce to my chicken shawarma which I couldnt taste at all...they put it on the grill to crisp up the pita which was good but my chicken was pretty bland, all I tasted was onions. It was terrible but nothing really stood out.
Matt T
Really good shawarma! People are comparing this place to baraka but Shawarma Khan definitely is more flavourful than Baraka! Didnt like the side dishes but the shawarma itself is delish! Obvi that's why the line is always ridics at bomber games
Princess Pitachip
Deeeeelish!. Shawarma Khan is definitely one of the best places to eat in the Exchange! My girlfriends and I try to eat here at least once a week. Just the thought of the yummy combination of the beef/lamb or chicken shawarma wrapped in a pita with the fresh veggies, crunchy neon pink (or red!) turnips and tahini, hot and garlic sauces is enough to make my mouth water. All that, plus the charming and funny owner himself makes this place our favorite lunchtime treat! P.S. the deep fried pita chips that are tossed in a secret recipe seasoning is a must ;)
Queen Turnip
The best place for lunch in the Exchange! I eat here almost every week (and sometimes even twice a week...) with the girls from work. The flavours of the meat, sauces, etc. all go together so well, and the pickled turnips add that extra tangy crunch.
Turnip Princess
Love it!! All the ingredients are fresh, the portion size is good and the pickled turnips are delicious!
Lord Igor
No hell.. Nothing great, too pricey. Baraka is definitely the shwarma king to beat in this town. Nice try though, the fact that its owned and run by an ex bomber is an indication that it probably won't do well. Just look for my review of Buck Pierce's Sports bar.
OinkOink
Big disappointment.. I had high expectations because I have heard positive things all across the board about this place but I was very disappointed. We ordered online and got it delivered. I will just talk about the food because the service we used in irrelevant to this review.

We ordered the Wrath of Khan with all of the fixings. As a note, it is big. Probably better to get a regular shawarma. As a house special dish, it surely was very disappointing. I asked for extra hot sauce and turnips. I got the hot sauce but I had no turnips in mine. Neither did my partner, who didn't ask for extras and just asked for the regular portion. Not a turnip in sight, and I wish there was an explanation given if they ran out -- but I will just assume that they forgot. Our delivery lacked any cutlery or napkins either. Furthermore the shawarma was overwhelmingly packed with falafel and there was maybe 2-3 small slivers of chicken and the beef/lamb mixture. It just tasted like a giant falafel.

IMHO, there are better places. I got caught up in the hype and got burned for it.
C.D.
I'm a fan. I really enjoy the pickled beets, lamb and falafel they offer. Everytime I have gone my food has always been fresh, flavourful and enjoyable. I guess it's a little pricey, but it's nice if you want something tasty and quick for lunch. I personally have no issues with the price and am most certainly a repeat customer.
ProvidenceTime
Shawarma Is good. Really like the shawarma here. I'm not an expert by all means but I do like food and the food here is good. Atmosphere is nice as well.
LaveleeLa
Left Full. Had a large beef shawarma wrap and flavour was awesome. Portions were just right. People need to remember it is a pita which is thin and the quality of meat is higher here when compared to most places. Get those turnips in there as well!
Food Snob
Really good but not the best. Food quality =8
Service = 8
Ambience = 4
Value = 8
If you like a veggie cuisine this joint is really good. In terms of the shwarms this place would be good to really good, but is a monster fail in terms meat portions. Maybe 3 oz./pita. Although tasty. Perhaps a double up on the chicken or lamb/beef would be a good option for an upcharge?
All in all........a la aahhnold "ill be back".
Nighthawk
Good lunch spot. I've been to Shawarma Khan for lunches quite a few times. It's always well priced and pretty filling, though I would recommend the large size if you are hungry. I like mine pretty hot, so I usually get some jalapenos and extra hot sauce to spice it up more. Only down-side that I have experienced is once in awhile the wrap can be a bit on the cold side
Dutchman27
I had no idea what shawarma was before coming here. I'm very impressed. Great food, great staff, and good value. Only beef is the location as it relates to parking. I drove around the block a few times. Totally my favorite place in the exchange
Howard Lavitt
Best Shawarma West of the Rideau Canal. Everything is tasty and fresh with authentic Middle Eastern flavours. There isn't a better place for Shawarma west of Ottawa!
Krys
AMAZING shawarma's and salads. I was a little nervous going after some reviews, but SO glad I went. Wrath of Khan, chicken platter, tabbouleh salad, and the beet and apple salad were all amazing. The baklava was to die for. Can't even say enough about this place. Obby works the till which is nice to see and he's super personable (and easy on the eyes ;) Will definitely be back
LD
The Best!. Delicious food, great atmosphere, amazing people. Top notch every time.
Best falafel and shawarma in the city bar none!!
M Remis
Just had a chicken Shwarma. Tasted great, got a large which filled me up. Obby served us and the service was awesome!

My go-to place. Shawarma Khan has become my go-to place when I am in need of a quick bite or something substantial. I drool even thinking about their shawarma plate (I usually go for beef/lamb) with tabouleh and apple/beet salad. Their hummus is fantastic, and all the elements on the plate can be mixed for interesting flavors.

Other reviews have said that the meat is dry. I have never noticed, but then again, my meat is soaked in tahini and hot sauce. I also tend to go when there is no line up, so they slice it right off the spit.

Remember to bring some gum with you, or you will be impressing everyone with your garlic breath!
D
Good but not great.. Went for lunch today. The food was good, nice change from other lunch options, but nothing about it blew me away, or even really made me want to go back for more. There's nothing I'm dying to eat again. Given that, it's kind of pricey.
Cchiborak
Great job. I was very impressed by the restaurant. We went at lunch today and despite the long line up, it went quickly, and we managed to find a seat for our group of 8 (more luck than anything). Staff were quick to prepare, and Obby served us at the register. We used a coupon from the Show and Save book for 25% off. I had a Chicken Schwarma and it was fantastic. The hot sauce wasn't too hot for me, and I especially liked that they grilled the schwarma before giving it to you. Some in our group had the plates, and everything looked and tasted fantastic. Definitely going back!
Drew Woytko
First time and it was pretty disappointing. Had a lamb/ beef shwarma. Meat was dry as a bone, flavourless. Pickled turnips were a nice touch, and about the only thing you could taste. Obby - if you are going to pre-slice all your lamb / beef, have it sitting in its own jus on the warming droor. Will always be tough and dry how its being currently served. Too bad, great location and layout is a good use of tight quarters. Product must be better, especially at that price point.
Kim
Delicious food. Especially liked the flavors in the beet/apple salad. Shawarma was delicious. Linda was very helpful in suggesting items to try.
Ash Raichura
Best vegetarian option at the new stadium. The title says it all.
And Obi's a really affable character - gotta love him.
Kst3
I Liked it. I really liked it. Everything was fresh, the place was clean and it was inexpensive. I have been here twice and I would be back.
Bynhewten
Look at the difference.... ...... in the reviews between the "one hit wonder" posters and the folks that have a few reviews. Quite the dichotomy. Obby wouldn't be subscribing to the Phony Urbanspoon Reviews idea, would he? For shame.
Veverton1
AMAZING!!!!. We love this place! Even though the restaurant is small, we usually take our food to go. I would eat there every day if I could! However, I'm dropping in there after work quite frequently for the hummus and pita bread with the pickled turnip. It's amazing! I did not eat hummus before Obby made me try it. He's so awesome!
Tara-Marie Hall
Was finally able to try this restaurant the other day and it was so good. The food was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant had a very welcoming atmosphere. It's a place I can take my whole family without breaking the bank. I am very glad I made the trip. It lived up to my expectations.
Sarah McCulloch
Pure Heaven Deliciousness!!!!. I will NEVER tire of eating at Shawarma Khan. The Wrath of Khan is pure heaven. It make me happy every time I eat it. Pure gold! And the extra pickled turnips make it even better! The service is always great and nothing makes your Wrath of Khan better then getting it wrapped with love by Obby Khan himself! He definitely knows how to wrap a girl's Shawarma!

Best food in Winnipeg!. Hands down the best place to eat in Winnipeg!! Obby Khan knows what he's doing and he does it well! The food at Shawarma Khan is absolutely delicious and the best part is the ingredients are fresh and healthy, while still full of flavour. The portions are huge-you definitely get your money's worth. I have taken numerous friends here and they all left in love with the food! When you walk in, the first thing you notice is how clean the restaurant is. There is tons of light and the food is the main focus. Fresh, smells great, and tastes even better :) There is a dish for everyone, lots of variety, and I'm happy to try them all!

Love It!. Ever since i started going there for lunch a few months ago i have yet to be disappointed. I have had the Wrath of Khan, the Big Bird - i haven't had the plates yet because i am so hooked on the shwarmas. The food is delicious and the portions are great, too. I would recommend Shwarma Khan to anybody.

The best shawarma plate I've ever tasted and the shawarma wrap was massive.

Go for lunch there about once a week. Awesome food! Also helps to see the face of the business working the line or till. Fast and friendly.

Food is fantastic and definetly beat the old burger and fries, plus you don't feel like a bag of crap after eating it. Chicken shawarma with some chickpea salad. Fantastic

Awesome!. I just had lunch today at Shawarma Khan and it won't be my last! The service was friendly, the food was delicious and I even got to meet Obby himself... SUPER nice guy! Go there... you won't be disappointed!

Packed for Lunch. Went to this place for lunch and it was packed. I always like to go to busy restaurants and this one fit the bill. Fast, quick service during a brisk lunch is always a good thing in the downtown area. Food was yummy as can be. Remember to grab a mint before heading back to the office though due to the intense garlic in some of the toppings.

Three words for their felafel. Too many onions -

three more

not enough felafel

First time but not the last. Flavour was awesome, will be back for more!!!

Massively Awesome. For under $10, you get a massive portion of juicy and filling chicken and veggies stuffed in to a pita shell and grilled. Its almost too much food for a lot of people, but you get your money's worth.

If you like a bit of a kick, ask for the hot sauce! Its not overwhelming and adds a nice mix of heat and flavour!

Great food. Went there for lunch and had the falafel plate - the food was all great! The falafel was nice and crispy outside and had lots of flavor. I didn't try the hot sauce but did have the tahini and loved the humus. Obby was there and took the time to say hi and take a picture!

A friend and I went for lunch to shawarma khan today and it was amazing, so delicious, flavourful and tender. Obby himself works the till and knows if your a first timer or a regular. This place is perfect for lunch or dinner and worth every penny! Enjoy!

Just came back from lunch and had the most amazing experience! Got to meet the owner himself, Obby, who was working cash, cleaning tables and even conversing with me and my coworker. Super friendly, the food is delicious, super fresh and quick to grab!! We work downtown and would definitely come back again! Kudos.

Too Dry. Stopped in (first visit) mid afternoon last Saturday. Had the lamb & beef shawarma wrap with a side of garlic potatoes. While the ingredients were tasty and plentiful, the meat was dried out and made the whole experience ho-hum

Best Shawarma EVER!!!. Since Shawarma Khan has opened it has been my 'go to' restaurant in the area. I work downtown and I eat there an average of 2-3 times/week. The food is healthy, filling and fantastic and the prices are great. My favourite things are the pickled turnip (yum!) and the apple and beet salad. If you haven't gone there, you MUST!

Could have been better when warmer. I have been to this place a couple of times and found the food delicious, but it could have been better if they leave the shawarma in the" grill" longer to let the heat penetrate the "wrap" because I found the inside was cold in both occasions I went there.

My family and I are re lovers of "doner kebab" (that's what it is called in Aust) and they normally heat the lebanese bread by placing/facing it close to the element and/or rub it against the meat before slicing them. Then putting ithe kebab on the griller again to make sure they're hot. JUST SAYING.

The owner (sad to say I can't say the same thing for the staff) is so vibrant that makes the atmosphere a lot more welcoming.

Delicious. Work down the street. Chicken Shawarma wrap is good, but the star is the Beef/Lamb wrap. Great gluten free option by choosing the plate (minus the included) toasted Pita bread. Give it a try when you're in the Exchange area.

Try it if you haven't!. Been here a couple of times now. The vibe and atmosphere during the day is great. When the owner is around it's just full of life :)

The food is delish and needs to stick around the exchange forever. Definitely a must-try. Yay meats

Very good!. We stopped in on Friday evening just before 7. We were at the Fringe Festival in Old Market Square and were deciding which of the many food trucks would be making us dinner. We had to walk back to a friend's car to get something and walked by Shawarma Khan. The smell totally lured us in. Unfortunately, they were out of 2 of their 3 meats and the only thing they had left was chicken. Too bad they weren't better prepared to meet the volume of the Fringe crowd. The chicken was fine, perhaps a bit underwhelming, but everything else on the plate was delicious! $9.99 provided a huge plate of food that neither of us could finish. The rice & potatoes were tasty, the white garlic sauce was off the hook, the chickpea salad was absolutely delicious as was everything else. Great value for tasty fresh food. If I were downtown more frequently, it would definitely be my lunch place. Thanks!
