Review Mrs Mike's - Winnipeg

R P
A little burger stand in St.Boniface. It has a real nostalgic feel with No dining in here, just a few picnic tables on the side of the stand, Cash only as well. We tried the double cheeseburger and an order of fries. The burger was very tasty, loaded with cheese, chili, pickles and onions. It had some weight to it as well ! The shoe string fries were pretty plain nothing fancy. Will definitely return for a anouther cheeseburger 🍔 👍🏻 next visit i will try a milkshake for sure. Staff were polite and the wait for the food was quick. Price was as expected 💸 There is a small parking lot attached to the buisness and parking on the street is available and it's free. By the customers that surround this place during lunch it is clear that is a local favorite.

Steve, Cathy and the gang have been consistently excellent at making and serving some of the best burgers found anywhere in North America (at least in my humble opinion). I thought I would bring it home to eat, but made it only about 10 minutes before pulling over and taking down the single king burger and chili fries in the shadow of the Legislative Building. Mrs. Mike's is always one of my first stops after getting into the city from Idaho, where I've lived the past 30 years. They are quick with a smile, know me by name, and ask how my family is. There is a reason why these burgers, this place and these people are consistently at the top of the "best of" lists across Canada!

Fantastic King Burger! But beware, it might be too much burger for you. And you WILL get messy.
Michael Winiarz
The Kingburger is a beautiful experience! So loaded and tasty. Can I have some more?

Heard a lot about Mrs Mike’s. Stopped in to sample the fries. They were not my favourite. Very similar to McDonald’s but not as crisp and unsalted. Lots of salt and vinegar packs in the bag with fries but difficult to apply evenly. McDonald’s is cheaper, quicker and better. (If you like that style). VJ’s, Fergies Fish and Chips and Santa Lucia Main St are the best if you prefer tradition fries. Makes me hesitant to try their highly rated King burger. +$10

I've been in love with their burgers for years. They're incredible but I finally tried the fries and they were disappointing. Very little flavour. The burger more than make up for it though. I will keep going back!

Mrs. Mike’s. Best chili burger in the world. Period. This place is iconic. From the picture of the Kennedys on the wall to the kitchen banter, this place is special. It’s a throwback to a bygone era. LOVE it.
Darryl Palidwor
Not a fan of onions in my meat patty but that's me, I should have requested none then I guess. Besides that, the french fries were really really well done A bit overpriced as well but I've seen worse
RiverH86
The burger was good, very huge! My boyfriend told me not to order fries I’d be full and I didn’t listen. But mannnnn the fries were such a disappointment!! They are like McDonald’s fries! I dont want McDonald’s fries ! It would be nicer if they were homemade.

I've been hearing about this place for years and since summer is coming to an end I thought I should try it out. I was definitely satisfied, the cheeseburger and fries were very good although I would say there was nothing that made this place stand out compared to similar restaurants. Service was friendly and the food was tasty.

FYI - CASH ONLY
I didn't know about this place until I drove by it & its "cool & vintage" vibe was what caught my eye! We came back to it later that day for dinner, planned to pick it up and walk to the park up the street for a picnic. There are a few picnic tables along the side of it, but they were all full. We ordered 1 King Burger, 1 Cheeseburger, 1 hotdog, 1 regular fry & 1 chocolate shake. The total was just under $35. The food was warm, but not hot unfortunately. The king burger has 2 burger patties, so it was very filling. I assumed the cheeseburger would have shredded lettuce on it, but it didn't. The fries were lukewarm, and somewhat disappointing because they were $6 and some change and I had hoped they'd have a signature taste or cut to them, but they had a "McDonald's" look to them without the addictive taste. The milkshake was also roughly $7 and was too thin and again, didn't have anything special about it.
The service was friendly.
I wish they'd change 2 things - explain what each item comes with - don't expect each guest to know all the details of each item. The menu boards just say the item and price, no details.
Secondly, have the menu, prices and details on the website or affiliated websites for guests to know what they are ordering.

Another Greek burger stand in St. Boniface... The best of them I guess... Get my fix once or twice a season and I'm good. It's nothing spectacular or different from any of the others in the area. I see people in the winter waiting for their burger so there must be some appeal to some but why?
Clare
Mrs. Mikes has my favorite homemade patty in the city! By far the most flavorful and juicy.. cute neighborhood with tons of local shops to walk around and check out to burn off some of those calories afterwords... Can't wait for our next stop here!
Carol
I had a cheese burger. There were some onions on it, a pickle, a too small dab of chilli, and cheese that had completely melted off. I could not taste any of that. After my first bite I had to open up the burger to see if there was anything on it. All I could taste was a salty patty. No flavour, too packed with salt. Overall a let down. There are better places near by.

This is my go to place in Winnipeg for chili burgers. Friendly staff. It's just too bad they close down over the winter. Just makes me want a chili burger more. Well played Mrs. Mikes!
Chessclubreject
Mediocre burger, greasy and sloppy and a bland taste. and not a fan of the shoestring fries, don't get the big ratings this place gets. wont return.
Jamie
I've been eating at mrs.mikes for over 35 yrs.
Even has a burger named after my parents.
Anyways I was there 2 weeks ago, and I was so disappointed :( first time ever! Fries and chili didn't taste right I brought my uneaten portion to my parents and even they could not believe the way it tasted.
On another note since forever mrs. Mikes fries and chili came in a iconic red & white striped paper bowl.
This last time was a white with green flowers.

Absolutely measures up to the hype, so good, ordered the double cheeseburger and chili fries, pure awesomeness!!!! Loved the greasiness and so tasty!!!! I would give it 5 out of 5? try 15 out of 5.
Cory
KING... BURGER.. This thing (King Burger) was amazing. Just an absolute beast of a burger, it certainly tested my limits as well as my manliness. Would definitely return to take on the King again!
Hipsux
Doesn't measure up to the hype. For all the good reviews various people have put in myself and friends tried Mrs. Mike's. Disappointed is the easiest description with a good burger but bad fries (greasy and un-tasteful). I would give it 2 out of 5 for a rating.
Glen Zelinsky
Meh, so so.... Overpriced. Burgers are tasty though, very similar to a Fat Boy at Juniors. Fries are very disappointing. Frozen, not homemade. 7/10
ELF
Meh. Not bad, but just o-k.. I hadn't been to Mrs. Mike's since I was a kid, so I popped in and picked up some burgers yesterday to remind myself what everyone raves about.

I found the bun on this burger was soggy and falling apart. I much prefer George's bun where there is some bite required to pull it apart and therefore it can stand up to all the toppings without falling apart. I also found it lacked flavour... there were pickles but I could barely tell... and no mustard? Not sure--couldn't find it.

I also found the fries were extremely disappointing. It is like a bag of frozen fries have been dropped in the fryer... I would think if all you do is burgers and fries, that you would put the effort into making your own. Even more confusing is that there is a photo on here posted by by Abelandrew Pobre on April 17, 2012, and it shows home-made fries... so I'm guessing that has changed since... too bad as it is probably the main reason I won't be drawn back to this place.
Ron
Nothing special............ Overpriced burgers compared to superboys, VJ's and red top. fries are really good.

Tried the king burger today. Hefty burger, the patties were well cooked, great size, very moist burger, the bun covered the burger adequately, loved the shaved lettuce and the tomato was sliced perfectly. Very juicy, but it just lacked something- a little kick. I tried putting ketchup on it but that didn't help much. Maybe a little mustard? or if they added garlic to their mayo that might do it. 8/10
Goalie34
Average food. People rave about mrs mikes but there are much better places to have a burger and fries.went once and will never go back.drive by the place almost every day and have no desire to stop for food

IMHO Winnipeg's Best Burger. I have been going to Mrs. Mikes for about 15 years and their quality has not changed. The first King Burger I had was by far the best I had eaten. Every "King" I've had since then has been very delicious. The fries are also very good but I have trouble eating the "King burger" let alone fries also. I have three twentysomething boys and they all agree with DAD that these are Winnipeg's best. We were in New Zealand a few years ago and were told that the "Ferg Burger" was the best according to most people from around the world. My opinion is if they feel that the Ferg burger is the best, than they need to come to Winnipeg to try the King burger.

Pound 4 pound best. The mecca of burger joints in the city. Good fries and excellent huge burgers. Full of flavor. Burgers are hand made fresh and it shows, NO filler.
Winnipeg has a lot of great burger and fires joints, but Mrs. Mike's probably beats them all.
Sir_steveoh
Summer time favorite. Okay so you want to bring someone from out of town to a great Winnipeg burger joint on a nice summer day then stroll into St. Boniface, and head to the little Orange and White hut on Taché just south of Marion St.

These are the best of the "greasy spoon" dinner burgers and fires in Winnipeg. The sizes are huge, the fires are hot & fresh, top that off with a pineapple milk shake, and if you still have room try a soft ice cream dip. I try to get here at least once a summer, and it's always about getting a burger, so it's not a place I head towards for ice cream, as much as filling my need for a big yummy burger and fires.

I like the staff, it's family run, and it's about eating outdoors on a warm summer evening, just being satisfied with whatever you order.

Winnipeg has many great burger and fires joints, but Mrs. Mike's is tops.
SpiceLife
Good. On par with the top burger joints in the city. 8/10.

Average burgers, nothing special. Sloppy and greasy. Wouldn't go back.

Best Burgrs and Fries. I have been going to this restaurant for years during the summer months and Mrs Mikes will not disappoint you. Best burgers and fries hands down!
Brian
Very good burgers and fries. My favorite burger place.good fries and excellent burgers .wish they where open in winter .
D.A.S.
Tried this Ă little while ago when they showed as one of Canada's beat burgers in Teasers Digest. Don't what the fuss is about, the burger was Nothing special and if i remember correctly the fries were of the frozen variety. I think people think it's good because of the nostalgia, maybe their parents took them there as miss or something.
George Moutsouroufis
Best burgers ever. I your really hungry have the big King!
Matthew Rodriguez
Mrs. Mikes. The King Burger was delicious, but it is very messy! Everyone stared at me while I was eating my burger cause so much of the burger was falling down! They need to properly make their burgers right.
Swan123
Best Burgers ever. I have been going to Mrs. Mike's for over thirty years and it has the best burgers in Winnipeg. The cheeseburger is excellent with yummy chili sauce, a pickle and onions. It just makes you salivate while you wait. The fries are okay. One thing I wish they would invest in is new seating. Those old picnic tables are not the most appealing to eat on.

All in all, if you are hankering for a great burger, this is the place!
Buddy Elf.
My Wife and I just devoured king burgers and fries.... Food coma! The Burgers are AWESOME! Best in the city!!! The fries are alright but you won't need fries if u get a king burger! So delicious, this little joint will be a frequent stop over the summer... Finally, I'm happy, I've found a burger stop with hand made patties, not frozen pucks! Can't wait to go back!!!

LOVED IT!!!. A buddy I used to work with recommended this burger stand whole heartedly and his heart was right (despite needing a bypass later on. probably not related). It was an awesome experience. The King Burger is definately the "king" of burgers. The fries are exactly like Mc Donalds fries, but oh well, let's focus on the burger. Great great great burgers. I try to eat here a few times a year (they are only open during summer months). The service is quick, and the food is great. Did I mention it's great???

JB

U haven't had a burger unless you been here! Best burger hands down!
Dave
Big & Juicy. Every time I eat here I am always impressed with the great food. I should go here more often but then I would pack on too many pounds. Always a treat.
Marlowe Hiebert
BEST Burgers in Winnipeg hands down. Fries are not, however with burgers this good who cares!
PVD
Delicious!. I absolutely love the burgers here. Everything is fresh and tastes great. I think I could this my favorite burger joint in the city!
Rick
Just a small no where to eat inside place, but enough picnic tables outside for everyone. Love their fries and chili. Always a long wait till they open again in spring and I can get my fix again.
Melissa Joy M
Winner. Say hello to what is quite possibly the home of winnipeg's best burger. :)
Marc
Love this place! the King Burger is a hefty amount of food, and their chili fries are still my favorite! highly recommend if you are craving burgers!

Best Burgers in Town. My dad used to take me here when I was a kid, and it will always be a special place for me. Now that I'm grown up and have had a few burgers under my belt, so to speak, nothing compares to Mrs. Mikes.

Love, love love their greasy goodness.
Rina10
Probably one of the best burgers in wpg! Fries suck but the burger is absolutely amazing!!! Yum!

#1 burger in Winnipeg. There will always be a debate on what Winnipeg's best burger is. I've tried quite a few of those burgers, but keep coming back to what has been my favourite since I was old enough to discern between burgers - Mrs. Mike's.

I don't know how else to start except the burgers. The regular hamburgers/cheeseburgers are delicious - the sauce, the long quarter of a pickle at the bottom of the bun, the onions, the mustard... the toppings are perfectly put together to make your mouth water before you take that first bite. The meat itself is spiced so well - I don't know what they put in the patty, but it's infectiously good. I usually don't like double burgers because I find the taste is too 'meaty', but I've been known to order a double cheeseburger from Mrs. Mike's because the patties are just delicious. As for the bun - I know it's store-bought, but it still works fine. The flavour between the bun should be the focus, and the lightly toasted bread that holds everything between does the job just fine.

The fries are very well done and crispy, but why would you go to Mrs. Mike's and not order the chili fries? Absolutely swimming in delicious chili that compliments the fries perfectly, it's a meal all unto itself - take my advice, share an order with someone else.

But the real pièce de résistance of Mrs. Mike's, the crowning jewel, the delectable delicious desirable dinner, is the king burger. If you have not ever had the king burger before, drop everything and go order one. Right now. The toppings are perfect and the wonderful patties once again make an appearance. It's huge and every last bite will give your taste buds a comforting hug.

Mrs. Mike's is cash-only, and closes fairly early at night so make sure you get there early. Sometimes the lines can be long, but the wait is more than worth it. Enjoy one of Winnipeg's burger gems soon!

Nostalgia:. I was a buddy to the son Ray Krawchuck when he's dad opened the 1st and original. His dad was Mike and he opened it for his wife thus the name Mr's Mikes.Back then in the early 60's it was definately the local hangout for all the local Teens and others being open 7 days a week from morning until early AM the next day most of the time.Business was really thriving back then as the Baby Boomers were just at the right age and lineups were the norm.Close personal friends could run tabs and pay them off when the next weekend rolled around.Although todays business is open only a fraction of the weekly hrs I believe they also do a good turnover and the food is on par with what I remember. Most of the locak Kids from the 60's are now gone from the area but I myself have always remained within a one mile radius.Ahh the memories....BX:)

Nice owner + nice meal. Enjoyed the cheese burger & fries.. nice people running it..cooked fresh and not reheated like VJ's.. will be heading back soon..

Absolute best!! Should be #1 on the list!. My family and I have been coming to Mrs. Mike's since I was a child. It has always been a wonderful treat. I've never had a bad experience although i have to say they have majorly toned down the spice in their chili since I was a kid. Which may not totally be a bad thing. I believe that they should be #1 on everyone's list for Best Burger Place in Winnipeg! I now live quite a ways away from the place but try to make a trip when I'm in the area.

(I just wish they were open all year round! I could really go for a King burger and Chili fries right now and Dairy Whip just isn't the same!)
SarahJane
Yummm. Cheap tasty fast food. Tastes very homemade. Wash your burger and fries down with one of their amazing blueberry milkshakes.

Meat Sweats. I love this place. Granted I can't eat the King Burger and chips and chili like I used to in college, but I still enjoy the occasional cheese burger and chips and chili. It is so tasty. I think if you took a Mrs. Mike's burger and VJ's fries, that would be the perfect meal.
DineoutGal
OMG! So yum!. After eating about 5 veggie burgers in the last month (at Boon's) I had to balance it off with a "real" burger. So I splurged (calorically speaking) on a burger at Mrs. Mikes. I am still shocked and amazed at how good their burger is! I ordered the cheeseburger ($5) - kinda pricey compared to VJ's. But Mrs. Mike's burgers are bigger comparatively speaking. The cheeseburger is on a sesame bun, probably the size of a BK whopper. The patty is just slightly bigger than the bun and cooked with a slight crisp on the outside but still juicy inside - I love that! The flavour of the beef patty is perfectly seasoned and balances so well with the cheese, pickle, chili, onion and mustard. They don't put too much chili on their burgers so it's not as messy to eat but you still get the chili flavour.

Of course I had to order their fries ($3). Now I'm torn on their fries because I was expecting the type of home cut fries (with the skin on) like at VJs but the ones here look and taste like McDonald's fries (although they taste a bit better than McDs). I have my moments when I love McD fries but when I am going to a local burger joint, I totally expect more "homestyle" fries. I don't know...it's all subjective anyways and I'm neurotic enough to get a cheeseburger here and drive down to Broadway to get the fries at VJs. LOL.

I was pretty full after finishing the cheeseburger and eating half the fries but I didn't feel too gross. You know that feeling when you've stuffed yourself with too much greasy food.

The place seems pretty clean and organized in the kitchen. I was a little confused about where I was suppose to place my order as there are 2 widows (one in the front and one on the side). For the most part, it seemed like you order at the front, then wait for your order and then pick up and pay on the side window but then again some people did it differently.

This place closes in the winter and closes at 7 pm so it's not a late night burger joint. There is no indoor seating as there are only picnic tables on the right side, which is about as scenic as a parking lot/alley - I took mine to go. All the prices listed on the board include taxes so it'll be a round number when you pay (CASH ONLY). They have a king burger (which I'm curious to what in includes), no fat boy but maybe the king burger is their version of one??? They also serve chili fries, milkshakes, and chicken fingers.

Mrs. Mikes rules!. I grew up in the neighborhood of Mrs. Mikes and have been going there for years! Even when I moved to back to Winnipeg after 8 years, the owners still remembered who I was. Great burgers, love the fries and love the people! Great place to pick up a burger and take home or just sit at the picnic tables.
Neo
The burger here are pretty good, group of friends suggested it actually. It's kinda like VJ's, you have to get takeout if you don't want to eat outside on the picnic tables. but this is easily one of the best places to go for a quick lunch.
Ray 173
Like it!!!. Save yourself time, bad tasting burgers and money . Go to Mrs. Mikes on Tache and treat yourself to a King-Burger and chili and chips and a strawberry shake! its the best. If you can`t see yourself eating that amount of food than try the cheese burger and fries with a coke. LOTS of vinegar and salt on the fries for me please :) and yes this is not a place for people on a diet or weight watching!

BEST BURGERS EVER. Winnipegers like their burgers. We eat a lot of them and we have become officianados, probably having the most, best burger joints on a per capita basis, of any where in the world. And the best of the best is, arguably Mrs. Mike's, although I could be writing this exact same review, only substituting The name mrs Mike's with the name VJ's, they're both the best, I mean tied for the best. At any rate these two greek families have churned out the best burgers to come off the grill this city has seen for many years. Whether it's the King burger or the VJ's special, burgers don't get any better any where. There are slight differences in the burgers that these two iconic burger joints produce. Mrs. Mike's use sesame seed topped buns, VJ's regular buns. The meat patty at Mrs Mikes is bigger, so a single patty cheeseburger is more than satisfying enough, although it costs more than a VJ's single cheeseburger, but no problem, just order the VJ's double cheeseburger and be full, until, well tomorrow. As well the VJ's patties are crispier on the outside. If your from out of town try to grab a burger from either of places, or both of these places and get a feel for what a great burger is all about. if you head to either of these places for lunch, you can't miss them. Their the ones with the long line ups. But don't let the line ups discourage you, they move pretty fast, and the wait is worth it. If your looking for a late night burger hit VJ's.. Mrs Mike's closes at 7:00 PM. And if your feeling really hungry add the fries to your order, especially at VJ's, or maybe even a burger and a hot dog, which I have done on occasion, (what a pig I can be. I had them both with cheese too. I couldn't decide so I ordered them both.) Mrs. Mikes also has a couple of offerings not available at VJ's. One is the chili and chips, a small tub of chips slathered in chili sauce and the chili burger, a burger in the same size tub swimming in chili sauce. You have to eat it with a fork. The only downside with both these places, is they close for the winter months. Mrs Mike's usually closes in November re-opening in March and VJ's closes just before christmas and re-opens in February. But hey, they need some down time too. See you in the spring, I'm the one there opening day. And as frank Sinatra sang "if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere", he could have been singing about burger joints in Winnipeg. Especially Mrs Mikes.

The ultimate; Kingburger, fries n Choco shake...simply the best in the city
Casey Anders
I love going and trying different burger joints and I must say great burger, although I prefer mine with grilled onions which they won't do for you. Biggest dissapointment was their fries. They aren't fresh cut like I expect from a burger stand, they are they same size as mcds fries, and they taste like cardboard, even the hoards of ketchup I had to put on didn't mask the horribleness! Unfortunatly I will not eat here again because a burger just isn't the same without the tasty fries next to it... Go to superboys instead and you won't be dissapointed!
Pierre
King burger and chilli fries - need I say more? Consistent service and meals with very tasty burgers leaves this with a strong lead as the number 1 burger joint in town.
Moby
Easily the best burgers in the city. There is a reason it is always voted for best burger year in and year out.
Lori
Winnipeg's best burgers. Mrs. Mike's had been voted Winnipeg's best burger. There are many awesome burger places but I do have to say these are my fave! They serve their chili burger in a bowl completely covered with chili. You almost can't tell there's a burger underneath! It's truly amazing.
Donald McKenzie
Mrs. Mike’s has picnic tables outside where you can enjoy the weather while consuming your burgers or fries. However, when I went the tables were still covered in snow. The fries, which are $4.00 dollars spilled out of the paper bag. They were hot, crispy and well, but not overly salted. The King burger contained two large beef patties, along with all the fixings, including a chili that complemented rather than overwhelmed the flavour of the beef. The chili also had a texture that meant while the filling was runny, it wasn’t too sloppy,.
Tim Turner
The procedure at Mrs. Mikes is you order in the front, and pick up and pay at a side window. It gets a little confusing because they don’t use numbers or names, they just shout out the order - and it’s hard to hear - so diners wer

The menu is simple and straight forward, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, double cheese burgers, and the monstrous King Burger all served with a side of thin wonderfully crispy french fries.
