Review Bmc Market - Winnipeg

Laurie Sodomlak
Finally we got to enjoy the tacos in this local restaurant/Mexican market. At our table of four we tried all flavours and all were worth it. Price point for the tacos is awesome. I would suggest ordering chips and salsa to add to your meal. If you are a fan of the Mexican drinks you will be in heaven with the choices. On our last visit to Mexico we discovered the spice Tagine and they have it so we are Happy!!!

I love this place.Nice atmosphere and tasty simple menu that always hits the spot. Do your self a favor and try this place out. A wonderful lunchtime option

Pretty tasty tacos! You also can’t go wrong when you are paying five dollars for three tacos. They have sides, the guacamole is more like a sauce rather than a dip. Place was clean, and friendly service.
Kendra
This review is for the Kildonan location! But I adore both the locations, it is straight up authentic Mexican tacos and their freshly made tortillas are absolutely amazing everytime! 🙂 Dish was refried beans & carnitas tacos

Great place for authentic Mexican Tacos and other treats (or so I'm told, I'm not an authority on the authenticity of Mexican food). Tacos are indeed delicious, but portions are smaller than most other "mexican" restaurants and so I have found myself ordering additional Tacos after the first four I get leave me feeling unfulfilled. Be sure to pair your Tacos with some Mexican soda, mandarin flavour would be my recommendation if anyone asked.
Kris Engel
A superb taco place, with authentic food and drinks, and delicious carnitas tacos! The staff were very friendly, helpful and patient with our larger group, and the wait was not long. I'd certainly recommend their hotter salsa (very tasty, not crazy spicy) if you are comfortable with hot foods, as their mild was great tasting, but not very spicy at all.

I'd advise customers to stand at the till until your order has been prepared. I sat down after paying, and fully 30 minutes later I had to go to the front and remind them that I had ordered, and paid, half an hour earlier. Then they started making my order. It shouldn't take half an hour to get 3 small tacos. Although she did give me 4 by way of apology.

A great little spot with authentic tacos. Excellent prices. It's no frills great food with a variety of vegetarian and meat based offerings. It also has some basic mexican grocery items if you need a fix at home.

This place has the most delicious, moist and authentic tacos hands down. My favourite options for the 3/$5 deal are the Pastor (pork) and Tinga (shredded chicken) tacos. BMC Market definitely blows other taco places out of the water!
Rye Guy
I absolutely adore this place. The tacos are fantastic and as authentic as I have had. The quesadillas are a solid meal along with their potato salad which is simple but delicious.

I walk in and before I even get to place my order Betty has it written down, she asks how my Family is, and that you cannot get from any chain restaurant! The food is great, thanks as always Betty!

Not your run of the mill taco store. It serves authentic Mexican tacos bursting with flavor and unbeatable value for money to boot! Staff are courteous and service is quick.

One of favourite places to eat tacos. Handmade corn tortillas with delicious salsas. The pork and beef tacos are personally my favourite but the chicken and chorizo are good as well. Staff are friendly, fast service.

a place to eat authentic mexican foods and drinks... small neat place and highly recommended... will definitely come back for more..........
Foodiegurly
Took my friend there for lunch. Handmade Authentic white corn tortillas, so good, not that doughy wheat wrap crap. Tried the chicken and the chorizo sausage both were good flavours, and the hot hot sauce is very hot, I could only have a small amount and I eat habaneros. Good food, nice relaxed clean sitting area. Can't wait to go back 3/5.00 is very good value.

Rating this place a one for now because the only thing the girl working the front said to us was to ask what kind of salsa we wanted and our bill total. No greeting or anything else. I asked if she had any recommendations and she kind of just laughed at me like I was crazy, and then proceeded to stare until we told her our order.

Secondly, I asked for their hottest salsa and didn’t get any on all three of my tacos. Unfortunately didn’t notice this until we got home bc we took it to go. My carnitas tacos were so dry that I only ate one.

Surprisingly, I’m still willing to give this place another shot. Just definitely not going back to the Henderson location.
Jfoodie
This place is amazing as well as the one on Henderson hwy. the people who say it had no taste and stuff are the people who enjoy their tacos from Taco Bell. If you want real tacos, come straight here. And the price you just can’t beat. 3 for 5! Also, try their horchata, perfect for a nice summer day
The-amateur-eater
Not bad, not great is the best way to describe this place. Flavourless tacos for a good price. But that’s not what it means to have value... is it?
Farm2Table
What can I say about this authentic and quaint little place. You are greeted by the owner Betty, who incidentally remembers your order from last time, and she is wonderful. The food has never disappointed me yet.

The Food is made fresh everyday, I recommend the Tacos....3 for $5.00....yes that was not a misprint!
BMC is a small Mexican restaurant/market located across from Safeway/Husky in South Osborne.

This place has the cheapest tacos in the city: 3 tacos for $5. What a deal!

I do find that the menu is quite limited. There are only a few selections to pick from. At my most recent visit, I had the Beef, Chicken, Pork tacos and a bowl of Tortilla Soup. The food was alright...The soup was mostly filled with broth, which was kind of disappointing.

I don't think I will go out of my way to come here again but if it's on the way, I'll definitely come back simply the deal is too hard to pass up on!

As somebody who is partially Mexican, I was always looking for a place in this city that could offer food close to what I have had in Mexico. Somehow I didn't know about this place until now, and finally gave it a try. It is amazing, and quite authentic tasting. The food came out really quickly, and everything I tried was amazing. Would definitely recommend to anybody looking for some great Mexican food!

Excelente! The BMC Market is very close to becoming a weekly stop of mine. During numerous trips to Mexico i've ate at many restaurants where the locals eat but the food at BMC is still some of the best authentic Mexican I've ever tasted. The tacos (4 options to choose from) are packed with flavour and are served on corn tortillas that are hand-rolled by the lovely ladies. The chorizo and pork are a must and the fresh pico works well as a side option. Great prices, large serving portions and friendly staff make this place a go to!
Spectacledeater
I'm personally not a fan of Tex-mex, so I was pleasantly surprised that that was not what BMC market offered. Not only is the 3 tacos for five dollars a great value, it's also likely the best tacos that Winnipeg has to offer. You're not gonna get a million things on these tacos, but what you will get is a homemade tortilla that's filled with your choice of well seasoned meats. If you're not sure what to get, the staff are all very friendly and very helpful with the menu. So if you're a fan of homemade food with a lot of soul, definitely check this place out.
Meowzer
Great lunch spot. Cannot beat the price and food always tastes fresh. Good selection of sodas as well. If you're in a pinch for time, but don't want to do fast food this is a great alternative.
Jmclouts
Been to Mercadito Latino and other places but this place is the best! Nothing else in the city comes close to the street vendors in Mexico.
Conrad Berube
Excellent food. Authentic and amazing. Great price! Loved the simple atmosphere and the excellent staff. Must tip well to keep places like this open in Winnipeg.
The Heavy Hitters
Authentic Mexican treat. The kind of stuff you get from the taco trucks in Mexico. Don't expect to see shredded lettuce, sour cream, flour tortillas and cheddar cheese here. Tortillas are fresh made corn tortillas and flavourful. Tacos are 3 for $5-7 and come with your choice of filling and topped with onion and cilantro. Quesadillas are a bit bigger and have same fillings plus added authentic Mexican white cheese, 3 for 8$ includes a potato or carrot salad. Salsas are watery and come in mild-hot however the hottest variety isn't very hot at all. They sell my favourite little Mexican dessert here for .50c a piece, a peanut butter and sugar treat called De La Rosa Marzipan, I'm not sure where else in the city to get it. Also noticed this last visit they have tortilla soup on the menu, hope to try it in the future!
Yer Lil' Cannoli
Good homemade tacos. I've been here a couple times and this time I tried the 3 for $5 such a great price for what you get. I ordered the chorizo, pork & pineapple, and the mushroom & green pepper with cream. Great flavor still consistently lacking salt, but sprinkle some on and you are good to go!
Melissa Nelson
Great authentic Mexican food. Ordered three tacos: chicken, barbacoa, and pulled pork and also ordered some pico de gallo with chips. All were great although I will get the hot salsa next time instead of the medium as it was not as hot as I was expecting.
Kathryn B
If it were possible to give BMC Market a higher score I would. This place is simply wonderful!!! It's a charming family run business offering authentic Mexican food that is consistently excellent and at very reasonably prices. It's a friendly and casual place with unpretentious decor and it's not uncommon to have conversation between tables with jovial toasts to the chefs. I'm very glad to see BMC Market is getting the recognition they deserve.

Simple review for a simple spot: tasty, authentic, and big bang for your buck.

In order of personal preference, I tried the al pastor, barbacoa, chorizo, tinga, and carnitas.
I enjoyed the clean taste of the onions and cilantro on top, and actually could have used more. The medium salsa added good flavour but not that much heat. I actually brought my own hot sauce (Picamas salsa brava, popular in Guatemala. A must try if you come across it). Next time I will attempt the hot habanero sauce they offer.
I thought the tortilla was perfect. They give a generous amount of meat regardless of what protein you choose so the thicker tortilla holds up well to the meaty juices. We lounged and ate slowly and even the very last taco did not seem soggy.
Usually my go to taco is carnitas but, in my opinion, I found theirs a bit bland, especially in comparison to the al pastor and chorizo. (Mercadito Latino wins for me with their cerdo taco.) BUT BMC's al pastor is the major star for me. The pork is tender and flavourful, the pineapple lends a sweetness and also and slight acidity that cuts through the fat. With a hit of their salsa and some extra hot sauce it is a perfectly balanced bite. I could have had many, many more.

And to top it all of, the prices here are the cheapest I have seen in the city (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm always looking for more tacos). The chorizo, al pastor, tinga and a vegetarian option are all available for mix and match 3 for $5! The barbacoa and carnitas will run you a tad higher for 3 for $6.99. Either way you go it is a very economical meal.

I will be returning on a weekend to sample the tacos de lengua (part of the 3 for $6.99) and tamales which are apparently only available on the weekends.
Brian
We've wanted to try this place out for years, but finally got around to it last night. Awesome Mexican food! This is not a fancy place by any means, but the food is GREAT! Depending on what type you choose, 3 tacos will run you either $5 or $6.99. Either one is great value for your money. I had the braised beef tacos, and there had to be more than $5 worth of beef in them alone!. Flavor was delicious. I also had a great bowl of pozole soup. My wife loved her chicken tacos, with a side of chips and pico.

We'll be back frequently!
Belloty Kabamba-Braun
Homemade food, from people who definitely grew up with similar cuisine. I have to imagine that when traveling in Mexico, you couldn't taste the difference between that food and what is offered here. Plus 3 tacos for 5$? Cant beat that! Been a few times and probably will go a bunch more!
Carol
Fantastic flavours! Super cheap! I love food here. The menu is small but has variety in flavour. The food comes out fast and there is plenty of seating. I have been getting the quesadillas because I love how the cheese goes with all the fillings.
Spacemegaforce
Great authentic tacos for an amazing price. Even when the restaurant is busy, service is very quick & friendly and food is served hot. The restaurant is small but adorable and very clean.
Lara
I'm not a huge Fan of Mexican food unless it's homemade. I tried bmc and I really loved it! It's simple and fresh, homemade, and can't argue with the prices!
Kathleen Joei Famisan
I'm not really a huge fan of tacos but I decided to give this place a try and I'm so happy I did! Best tacos I have ever had! This place is officially my go to for tacos or quesadilla! My favorite is the beef tongue!!
Kiki
Delicious tacos! Very reasonably priced as well. You actually can watch the owner (I'm assuming she's the owner) rolling handmade soft tortilla shells.

They also have some Mexican groceries there. I bought a bottle of habanero hot sauce, and it's HOT!
Melody
Delicious Tacos!!! Authentic and affordable, a must try! I am a huge taco lover, and this is hands down some of the best tacos I have eaten!
Lingeatsywg
This place is the best. It's a small place, so sometimes I just grab tacos Togo and eat in the car, totally worth it. Where else can you go for delicious tacos hand-made in front of you?! Favorite lunch spot!
Eatvancity
Authentic Yes. Best in Winnipeg.... not really.
The tortillas were way too thick and crumbly. So much so my mouth was very very dry. We ordered pretty much every single taco on their menu. Carnitas were dry and stringy as were the al pastor. Carnitas are usually cooked in pork fat confirm style and should be luscious and melt in your mouth fatty good. These were not. Maybe it's Cuz everything was made ahead and sitting in a warmer for hours . Maybe fridge everything and reheat to order. Everything lacked seasoning too. No salt or complexity in any taco. They forgot cilantro. and onions on my to go order . Their salsa was hot but lacked any other flavour. On a previous visit food was much better. Now it appears they may be cutting corners to meet demand, which is really sad as nothing was really good. I really wanted to write another positive review but unfortunately this place really fell short
Carla Hernandez
I gave this place a try out of curiosity, and I am more than glad I did. I've tried different taco place around the city over the years, and can confidently say this place is legit! This is the first tim I'm leaving a Mexican restaurant in Winnipeg satisfied! The tortillas are made in house and by hand as the should be, the hot sauce is actually spicy and the meat is flavoured perfectly! It's family run which I always enjoy seeing, service was friendly and fast as well! I just wish they would play some latino music for a nice touch. Delicious and fulfilling for sure! I will be coming back to try more things on the menu guaranteed! Thank you!
Ambrioo
Best tacos hands down. The women there are so friendly and nice and $5 for three tacos?! Especially when the taco shell itself is made in house, it's such a good deal for a meal packed full of flavour! Get the onion and cilantro! I recommend the chorizo!
Hungry Hungry Hippo
The price and quality of these tacos cannot be beat. I have tried all 4 variations - pork, beef, chicken and mushroom and they're all fantastic. Do not be fooled by the humble exterior. It's a small restaurant, but it's always clean; the service is always prompt and friendly; and the food always comes out warm, fresh and delicious. I can assure you, you will not be disappointed. I do wish they would extend their menu to other items as I'm sure they'll do just as well.
Curtis George
Fast, delicious, authentic and great value! The Mexican pop and beers are a nice touch. I went there with some friends because it was fast.
HonestEater
Best and most authentic Mexican tacos in the city. She also does catering where you would pay the same amount for tacos (3 for $5)

Sometimes it's a bit of a wait, but it is worth it because she makes each tortilla by hand and as the order comes in. They're very friendly and food is really good. Small menu but all tacos have major flavor and the paZole soup is flavorful and authentic as well.
There are a few tables to dine there, but it's not a huge restaurant. Great hole in the wall.
Winnipeg Food
Everything here is super traditional. The wraps are home made and the meats are prepared daily. When you purchase the tacos you also get some salsa on the side as well. I would also recommend trying the horchata to sip on while you're eating, very tasty .

I would come to this place every day if I lived closer to it.
Jackie Wild
Authentic and humble Mexican family business. You can order three tacos for as little as $5.00! Best value in town for true Mexican flavour (on a budget!).
Krystle
Absolutely obsessed. After a friend recommended this place, I visit now almost once a week. I thought after a while I would get sick of it. But nope. The tacos are just as tantalizing and delish. I always order one of each on the 3 for $5. And can never decide which one I liked the most.
The Jarritos Mexican Cola is a must with every taco. It also has a little shelf with authentic Mexican take homes for cooking and a fridge with fresh taco shells.
Amanda
Can't beat the 3/$5 tacos. Chorizo is my favourite but the chicken is also very good! Pasole (not sure that's spelled right) is incredible!! Would never have found this place on my own, but so glad my aunt introduced me to it!!
Johnny V
My restauranteur friend brought me to this place and I have been back 3 times. Soon I will go again.
Walk in and immediately get aroma of fresh home made food.
Very small selection on the menu but what they make is worth going back for.
Not to mention the wonderful people with the big warm smiles behind the counter. 😊
This place is great. Tiny little menu but super authentic Mexican. 3 tacos for $5 is a steal and quite filling. It's becoming more popular as people figure out what a gem this place is.

I've been coming here for months now and am absolutely obsessed, lol. I think obsessed is an understatement actually considering I'm here at least once a week! The tacos are always fresh and definitely can't be beat for the price! There are tacos that are 3 for $5 (pastor, chorizo, chicken tinga) and also 3 for $6.99 (barbacoa and carnitas). There are also quesadillas, desserts, and homemade drinks (haven't tried them yet though). You walk to the counter to place your order, and you can pay then or afterwards. I've ordered tacos for take out and haven't had issues with them being too soggy. Highly recommended!!!!!
Serial Diner
If you want authentic tacos, this is the place to go. Have not tried them all yet, but both the chicken and pork tacos are excellent. Quesadillas are delicious. Pico di gallo and tortilla chips are fresh and homemade. I will be back to try the rest! Nothing tastes like it came out of a box here. Keep in mind this is the real deal.
Arturo Javier Diaz
Best Tacos in Winnipeg. You can also get yummy posole. The prices are awesome too. A must if you want real tacos. They also have goo desserts.
Unknown Muncher
I appreciated the atmosphere.

However I may just be too swayed by western "Tex mex" to enjoy the tacos here. The tortilla was too much for my tastes and the fillings were somewhat dry, although flavourful.

I definitely would still recommend trying them though, as they are probably far better for you than what you will find at chain Mexican places.
Enchiladalover
Best tacos in town and this place is great! 5$ for 3 tacos great price! My personal favorite is chorizo or chicken!
Great place to enjoy tacos!
ELF
I tried all 4 taco selections today for the first time and overall they were all very good. The meat was plentiful and I found it was a good value at 3 tacos for $5. My favourite was definitely the ground chorizo taco, and the red sauce the meat was mixed in were the most flavourful. I found the chicken tinga was my next favourite--although the meat was a bit dry, the addition of hotsauce fixes this right up. The only negetive comments I would make are that the tortillas were a bit cumbly and falling apart, while the salsa was almost flavourless besides being claimed medium heat. It would also be nice to have some sides as a choice to round out the meal (such as beans). Overall a very authentic taste and quality ingredients.
David Chipperson
Tacos are great and cheap . Hand made tortillas ,
big fan of the tongue tacos , pretty sure there is a way to refer to them in Spanish but I'm not a Spaniard.
Julian Pineda
Hole in the wall place... 3 tacos for $5 is the main thing on there small menu... taco shells were a little too thick... meat filling coulda used more flavor/seasoning... I tried there medium hot sauce and was not feeling any heat....and d I felt my tacos were swimming in a lake after putting the sauce on the tacos... I was unimpressed with the Pico de Gallo..... very bland and not enough flavor... there chicken quesidilla on the other hand were not bad.. I guess the cheese made up for it lol... all in all... this is a place if your looking for a cheap bite to eat and are not looking for burgers/pizza and want some different and cheap.. the possibility of me going back is very unlikely... food did not meet my food palate expectations.. sorry bmc market
UniCorn On The Cob
Very very Good! This is my favourite place to eat. Everything is very fresh and delicious. They have a vegetarian taco and it is the absolute best. (Rajas) The dessert is also very tasty. Price is right and staff is friendly. The Best!!
Jeremy
Hands down best Mexican food in the city
Jessica_c_1986
Amazing! !!. Can't get more Mexican then this place unless you go to Mexico. Taste of Mexico in canada. 10/10.

Mixed Review. The jury is out on this one, for a number of reasons.

Here are the good things about BMC Market:

It has a great location in a cute little building on South Osborne. You can't miss the bright blue and inviting colours! It is very accessible by bus and car, but be prepared to park on the street.

The warm soft shelled tacos are soooo good. They are perfectly sized to be held in your hand and enthusiastically eaten.

The price is incredibly reasonable! $5.00 for three, yes, three well-stuffed, filling tacos. Lunch, including a drink, taxes and a tip was easily under $10.00. Where else can you get that kind of excellent taste and value for the money?

BMC Market is not a chain. (I am very supportive of that.) Everything is made by hand from fresh ingredients. Quality is clearly a priority.

The staff is very hard working, and friendly.

The not so impressive things:

It was our first time there, and we weren't sure what to do. Nobody greeted us. Patrons were standing around. I asked someone, and the menu is written on the left hand wall--not seen when we entered. You place your order at the counter, find yourself a seat, and wait. Signage to that effect would have been useful.

The room was warm and humid. There was an air conditioner, but it didn't seem to make much difference.

BMC is very popular, so it took a while at a Saturday lunchtime for a table to become available. We were concerned that our food would arrive before that, but we did not have to worry. Likewise, because it was busy, it was louder than what we would have preferred.

An initial disappointment was that there were only 3 taco selections. You can mix and match, or have the same variety for your meal. That's a great option. Unfortunately, the sole vegetarian selection was unavailable. The suggested alternative was chips and salsa. That was not what I was hoping for, but we did not wish to go anywhere else. Happily though, the veggie mushroom taco, made with generous chunks of green pepper, cilantro and cream became a possibility again, so I had that. It was tasty and filling, but messy. The "medium" salsa was runny and could have been hotter. It was barely mild to my taste.

My friend had the barbecue, pastor, chorizo tacos which she enjoyed. Neither of us thought we could eat the big servings, but somehow we managed. ;-)

The mango soft drink was delicious!

There are some people who really love this authentic Mexican gem. It's nice to see that a local ethnic eatery being so successful. I am glad we tried it out.
Tracy
Fabulous eats. Last night 11 of us took over the back portion of this place and had a great time eating till we were stuffed. the staff are so friendly and willing to explain anything about the menu you may not understand (its written in English but still you maybe need some guidance) and will ask what level of hot you want your salsa. i think we ordered almost one of everything off of the menu but they were out of Pastor & Barbacoa tacos; which i appreciate...they run out of things which means they dont mass produce and have it in fridge limbo for days. you order cafeteria style, self serve bottles and can drinks (a whole bunch of authentic mexican varieties) and then they bring out your order to you; calling out your ticket number to ensure you get the right order. i have to say it was all good but the quesadilla was really a star, we had chicken tinga and it was just so good...some how even better then the chicken tinga taco. Go enjoy a yummy meal at a price you cant cook it at home.

Bland and dry!. We might have come on an off day, after reading all the reviews or maybe we ordered the wrong things off the menu. We love Mexican food, the real stuff not the fast food junk. We were excited, to try BMC after all the raving reviews. When ordering, they were out of almost everything. The staff apologized and were very friendly. They only had Pastor and shredded chicken left, so we went with that. we had them both in tacos and quesadillas. They were so bland and dry, I almost choked trying to swallow them, no one was happy with our meals, except for the delicious potato salad, we left disappointed, it did not live up to the hype. If I go back, I will make sure I order the pozole, barbacoa and the chorizo.
Natasha Buhler
My favourite place to eat in Winnipeg. Such amazing food for an even more amazing price. Customer service is excellent.
Tyunderscorerules
Easily the best tacos in winnipeg. They make the tortillas on the spot when you order
its $5 for 3 tacos
they serve beer
they make "real" tacos
it burns your eyes to be in there

i cant wait to go back
Weesinmeister
As cheap as it is delicious. My 7 year old daughter and I just got back from eating at BMC. We shared 3 tacos and 3 quesadillas for $13. The food was absolutely delicious. The family that runs the restaurant are beyond welcoming and took the time to chat with my daughter. I believe we've just found our new regular Friday night restaurant. We had previously been going to burrito del rio in osborne village. .. but the food at BMC is half the price and twice as good as the food at burrito del rio. We will return to BMC.... Again and again. ...
Fabgirl87
Considering I'm Mexican.. I have to say these tacos are defiantly authentic. Love that they're made of fresh corn tortillas on the spot. 3 tacos for $5, is a really good deal considering they're filling. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they expand the menu! :)
Tony Perioni
Another stellar meal. This is probably my 5th or 6th time coming (I've lost count to be honest!) had the tacos with pastore and it's amazing as usual.
Tried the soup today and it was tasty. It's even better if you add a bit of the hot salsa to it.
Will definitely come again! Thanks.

-----01 Feb, 2015-----

To The idiot who commented negatively. You clearly have never had a Mexican taco before because this is authentic. Get your facts together before you review.
DineoutGal
Great deal!. $5 for 3 tacos - what a deal! Cute family own taco shop on south Osborne. This place no longer sells grocery items as they expanded it all for dine in tables. There's about 5 or 6 tables, menu is small with different taco fillings - chicken, chorizo, beef, chicken and vegetarian. The couple of who run the place are really nice. The corn tortilla shells are fairly thick and there's a lot of filling. I had the chorizo, beef and chicken - favourite was the chicken as it had some nice flavour to it. The hot sauce was not spicy at all.

Overall, nice place to grab an inexpensive and quick lunch.

Even though there's no real grocery store they did sell some odds and ends like hot sauces and corn tortillas.

Mon - Sat: 11:30 am - 8:00 pm
Sun: 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Wonderful, Plentiful, Delicious Mexican Food!!. We enjoyed our first meal at the BMC Market yesterday. Family friendly service and delicious authentic Mexican food! We had chicken quesadilla (3 for $7.00). Left feeling full and satisfied without feeling sluggish. Really fantastic! This is our new "go to" restaurant in South Osborne!!

Just came back from my first visit here. Love it, love it love it. !!! Service was a little slow , but considering they are making the shells fresh to order that can be forgiven . 3 tacos for $5 ?!?! You can't beat this place ! Barbacoa was my fave , but others good too . Try it , at $5 a throw what have you got to lose ? You'll be hooked !!
Calebthiessen
Best and only authentic tacos in town. Homemade corn tortillas made for each order. Really good authentic flavour just like at the tacos stands in Mexico!
Flatcapclaptrap
The best. Incredible. we eat here once or twice a week. so fresh and tasty. the pork and pineapple quesadilla with the green salsa the potato salad and flan is my favorite lunch.
Fruitsaladyummyyummy
Amazing. Great, authentic, tacos. Everything is so fresh, even the cilantro. There's nothing quite like it in Winnipeg. A family restaurant that hopefully stays around for years to come.

Tacos Lack any Flavor - Too Much Onions. Tried this place twice and I'm pretty much done with them. The meat is very bland and whether you get the chicken or beef, or their Mexican Sausage, it ALL pretty well all tastes exactly the same. However, the real clincher was how there's really no toppings, just onions, that's it! And, way too many onions as well. If I ever did go back there, I'd just get the Quesadillas. Although, their mix only uses the meat & mozzarella cheese. That's it! Therefore, the Quesadillas are very, very bland and not much different from the tacos. Overall, this place has the start of something, but they really, really need to look into adding more ingredients. How about some; Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, grated Cotija cheese, some Green & Red bell peppers, Tomato, Garlic, Chile pods, Jalapeno peppers, and for heavens sake some seasoning. The food is so incredibly bland. They have a nice place, it's very clean and so much potential. All they need is FLAVORFUL food!

Really Really great food!!!. I love everything about this place. The owners, the food and the ambience. The prices are almost too affordable.
Culinaryn00b
Love the tacos here!. My girlfriend lives in the area, and at first we came in because we heard it was a Mexican market that had some products we couldnt find at our usual stores, like cactus.

The taco's here instantly reminded me of street food i've had in Mexico.. not the Westernized crap that gets passed off as Mexican food around the city! Really enjoyed the home made quality and the salsa's that i have tried to far were also good.

Can't beat the price, but as mentioned don't do take out or you wil end up with soggy tortillas.

Thumbs up!!!

Authentic. This place had great flavour in their taco meats and it was super authentic. Watching the lady make the tortillas from scratch was great. The only thing we didn't like was that there were no toppings on the tacos, just meat and salsa. I realize thats how authentic tacos are served but I still love cheese and lettuce on mine! Great flavour just not quite the whole package for me

A NICE CHANGE !. My husband & I ate here on Sun. Mar. 30th. We were looking for something out of the ordinary for us and we found it. It is a very small, unassuming, family run restaurant. We weren't sure what to expect when we walked in. The tacos were flavorful, and the meat portions were generous. We shared a fruit drink which was a welcome change from the usual soft drinks.

No so good this time.... I had tacos from BMC back in Jan.2014 and the tacos were excellent. Today my family came home with a huge variety of tacos and not one of them were good. The meat on all the tacos were dry and rather bland tasting. I must say, the family wasn't happy with the food especially after having such great reviews in the past. What happened here BMC???

Best in the city. Period.. This is the place for flavourful, authentic tacos, complete with handmade tortillas. The prices are an absolute bargain at three tacos for five dollars, and the fact that it's a family-run place is the icing on the cake.

Easily the best cheap eats in Winnipeg.

Good and cheap tacos. There's not much more I can add that differs from previous glowing reviews. I tried the barbacoa, tinja, chorizo and the veggie mushroom taco. Our favorite was the chorizo. The corn tortillas are freshly made, the tacos are generously filled with meat and can be lightly garnished with raw onions and cilantro. The price (3 tacos for $5) is the cheapest in Winnipeg for tacos and there was no compromise in quality.

Amazing authentic Mexican tacos! Delicious lunch !!

So cool. Stopped by this place during the week for a quick 'to go' lunch. Lovely staff- and delicious pork (with a bit of pinapple), chorizo and chicken tacos! Yummy corn tortillas.....will be back for sure.

Pound for Pound, The Best Tacos in Winnipeg. 3 tacos of your choice for $5. They have barbacoa, chicken tinga, pastor, chorizo, veggie. You get 3...FOR FIVE DOLLARS!! Hand made tortillas and your choice of any of the fillings...FOR FIVE DOLLARS!! There are other places to get tacos in the city that are twice as expensive and half as good. Simply the best tacos that you can buy with the spare change under your couch cushions.

5/5 Urbanspoons

A little taste of home. As a Mexican transplant to winnipeg, I've found BMC to be the closest to the tacos I could find at a mercado back in my small hometown. Everything is delicious, the tortillas are fresh, and the salsa is picante, which is good. They also have horchata, the rice drink that I love and is hard to find anywhere else here. I've tried a number of other "authentic mexican" taco joints in the city, since they've really been cropping up fast after JC's came on the scene, and none really compare. JC's was expensive and unimpressive. Modern Taco was interesting, they do some interesting twists on the formula, but also expensive. Habanero taco truck is ok, but the prices are bananas, El Torito truck is just slightly better. Burrito del rios are decent, but nothing special. BMC has 3 tacos for 5 bucks, and they don't skimp on the quality. You just can't beat that. The tacos aren't by and large that much better than at all those other places, but they're good enough to make them impossible to pass up at the price. Make no mistake though, this is a place for tacos, or maybe a quesadilla. If you're looking for more variety in dishes, you'll have to go somewhere else, because that's the only thing they do here, but they do it right.

Bar none - the best!. I think when you're willing to drive across the city to go somewhere for a meal, that's usually an indication of the quality of food/service you get.
Let me first say that Mexican food, or what's sadly passed here as Mexican food, is not usually the first cuisine on my list of favourites, but I simply can't say enough about this amazing little gem.
The owner, "Betty" makes everything from scratch, right before your eyes for the most part. The tortillas are pressed as needed, and cooked to order.
The vegetarian taco is excellent, as is the chicken (haven't tried the pork), but nothing holds a candle to the juicy, tasty, meaty goodness of the barbacoa (beef). All come with cilantro and white onions if you want them.
She has multiple salsas available, all homemade, and in varying degrees of heat. These are authentic! And be warned - even the medium can pack a punch (compared to most of the garbage served in the city).
The tamales are always a take-home item for us, and shouldn't be missed.
Her horchata is also homemade (unlike the powdered versions served everywhere else).
I can't think of an instance where I've been to BMC and haven't had a "moment" with my food. It's so good, it could bring you to tears!
DON'T expect fancy here. Think Mexican street food served in a cantina type setting.
The decor is bright and fresh, and her kids are almost always there lending a hand.
Seating is limited, maybe 16 people total? But take-out isn't really an option as the tacos would get too soggy even walking to the car.
DEFINITELY worth a try, and I'd say worth every penny, but at $5 for three tacos, it's almost robbery how cheap these good eats are!

Very authentic and fresh, loved it maybe the best tacos in Winnipeg

3 amazing tacos, super authentic flavours. Takes you to Mexico as soon as you enter. $5.00! What else do you need?

No denying.... This is the place if you want to taste the real deal! I mean, come on...hand made tortillas! Al Pastor, Barbacoa, this is what Mexican food is at its roots! And 3 for 5, now that's a deal!
Elle
Doh. I just didn't like the taco shell -- it was soft, and sort of sweet and spongy -- like injera or a crepe. Fillings were good but I couldn't eat it.

Promising; but maybe a bad day?. I was very much looking forward to trying this place out, as I am still waiting for something in Winnipeg that compares to the street food I have had in Mexico, and the feedback on this place was really strong. Ordered the 3 taco/$5 deal: Chorizo, the Chicken and cabbage, and the Pastor (pork). Came in a single wrapped corn tortilla. Certainly these are the closest to the real deal I have found in Winnipeg. No ground beef and cheddar in sight! Once I got home I was wishing they were double-wrapped as the Chorizo and al Pastor were a little greasy and messy and for some reason the tortillas had all split to some degree. Not sure if the tortillas were a little dry or hadn't been warmed enough before assembly. I wasn't blown away by the tortillas to say the least. They certainly weren't being made to order as some of the reviewers here have described. The fillings were tasty. My fave by far was the pork al pastor. Overall I actually would have been happy with a little less filling and a little more onion and cilantro in these! went for a little of both the red and green hot salsas. Both were top-notch. I found the green to have somewhat brighter flavours, and the red to have a little more heat. I will definitely return, maybe earlier in the day to see if a fresher tortilla improves my experience.

Authentic.. Go there for REAL mexican food. Inexpensive fresh eats. A small dine in area but the food quality makes up for it. Try one of the sodas or a coke in a bottle. Also caters to some mexican cooking items i.e. spices and dried peppers. Highly recommended especially for a quick lunch.

Delicious and authentic!. Just picked up some tacos for dinner, they were delicious!! We will most definitely be back for more. I had the chicken, chorizo and pork. I would say the chorizo and pork were the most flavourful. The pineapple with the chorizo is amazing. The medium spiced salsa wasn't that spicy so I think I would go with the hot next time. The only thing missing were some refried beans, that would have made the meal perfect!
Sarapeno
She makes the tortillas by hand, to order. The 3/$5 taco deal is incredible value. Small appetites will be satisfied with the three small tacos, but hungrier folks may want 4 or 5 or more to feel full.

The pork was amazing with little pieces of pineapple mixed in. The chicken we found a little dry, but the beef and chorizo were amazing. Tried the cow's tongue tacos one time and while the flavour was excellent, tongue is just not a meat we were comfortable with. Heard the vegetarian option is also great but as a due hard carnivore, it wasn't in the cards.

There are a couple tables to eat in, which we did once, but takeout is probably the way to do it. The dining area really felt like an afterthought, though the seats by the window were good for people watching.

Highly recommend. Very good. As an extra bonus, sometimes the adorable kids work the register and show off their business skills. Far more polite and professional than the cashiers I have seen at other places, even!

Small Spot with a Big Tasty Punch. Best Latin food I've ever tried!!!! Lady was making shells by hand as I ordered. 3 tacos for $5. Tried the beef, Mexican sausage and the pork all with the spicy salsa. Everything was fresh and mouth watering goodness. I was expecting them to be greasy, but that was not the case at all. I think this spot is an awesome Winnipeg hidden gem. Check ti out!!!!!!

Incredible!. Finally a Mexican restaurant that isn't covered in cheese and filler. The tacos are full of flavour but yet taste so clean. Loved it!

Amazing!. A co-worker was raving about this place -- and I only live a block away, so I took the family there, and we're in love.

Super fresh, tasty and affordable. My kids (aged 3 and 10) loved it. Great service, we may go every week!
Sarah
Authentic and amazing. Loved the chicken and chorizo tacos. Beef was good as well just not as good as the other two! Try the hot sauce the flavour is amazing.

Authentic and delicious. As some one who has lived in Guadalajara Mexico and have spent a lot of time at taco stands there, I can definitely say these are the most authentic tacos you will try in this city.

Was at Bistro 7 1/4 and saw this place through the window. We picked up tamales to take home, lets just say that we went there the next day to eat in and were not disappointed in the least . Way better then modern taco for dure
