One of our favorite places in Winnipeg. Great food, great service. I'm gluten/dairy free and they are very helpful and knowledgeable with this.
Delicious food .Very friendly staff and number one service. A must visit place.
Awesome food and staff, always service with a smile, been many of times and not once have I been disappointed, even let us keep our car in there parking lot after our meal for game night... go jets/moose go!!
Great place to eat. Good atmosphere, nice decor, friendly staff, and delicious food. There's a wide variety of food so there should be something that fits everyone.
Really high quality food. Exceptional service. I had asked for a cilantro sauce to go with my samosas about a month before. My server remembered and asked me if I would like the same at my next visit. Definitely will return!
Delicios food & superb service & atmosphere❤️❤️❤️
Great food, great atmosphere, great people. Highly recommend!
This place is so great! I was served by a guy named Manoj and he was exceptional!
Great new owners. This place will do great.
Our family's favorite restaurant in Winnipeg. Great food, great prices, great service and it's also a great place to meet with friends. I love them and highly recommend to everyone.
Until I visited this restaurant last night, my gold standard for good Indian food was a restaurant in New York City. Not any more. The food here is so good! So flavorful and well-balanced. Even the simple little salad with cucumbers, tomatoes and onions... so addictive! Mango lassi was so smooth, and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. I had the chicken tikka masala. Wasn't expecting much because it's tikka masala. Everybody does it a little differently. It was delicious! So much flavor! The garlic naan was great too. The service was also great. Our waiter was very helpful when we were trying to decide what to get. Also, we went close to closing time and we didn't feel rushed at all. Definitely going back there before our vacation in Winnipeg ends.
This place is BY FAR our FAVORITE Indian restaurant!! We checked them out at their new location, the restaurant is smaller than their Main Street location, but the flavor is still as rich as ever.
If you want the best Indian food in Winnipeg, this is the place to be!!! ❤️❤️❤️
A few weeks ago, I was walking down the street, and noticed that the former Spice Affair was now Ivory. This surprised me because I didn’t realize that the Main Street location was no longer open. So, I took a stroll down Main Street a couple of days later and sure enough, there was no Ivory there any more.
I have nothing but good things to say about Ivory. I've eaten at both locations now and nothing has changed at the new besides it being a smaller space but it is by no means crowded. The service was impeccable, super friendly and attentive despite a full house on a Saturday night. We opted for the buffet as we always do because at around $20 a person for supper it's beyond reasonable and you get a variety this way. All the food was hot and flavoured wonderfully. My favourites included butter chicken, akbari chicken, prawn mumtaz, masala gohbi and navrattan korma. They also served a very generous portion of garlic naan for the table.I was left wanting nothing and will definitely be back.
Came here for dinner with some colleagues. There are a few Indian restaurants downtown to choose from, this being the closest to Portage and Main. The decor is modern and there is both a bar and a dining room. We went on a weekday night and it was very quiet in the restaurant. For the greater part of our meal, our table were the only guests. As a result, service was both prompt and attentive.
We took a brief look at the menu but decided that for the price, it really didn’t make sense to order a-la-carte. The dishes are expensive and come in at $15 even for vegetarian dishes. The buffet offers up a wide selection of food and includes naan bread for only $5 more and is all you can eat. My favorites which include Navratan Korma, Palak Paneer, and Rogan Josh can all be found on the spread! There are also other favorites like Curry Dahl, Samosas, Pakoras, and butter chicken. The buffet also includes dessert which is a nice touch, if you still have room.
As for value, maybe not the best for dinner. I would say there are other Indian buffets around the city that offers better quality and value. However, this place is a nice alternative if you’re in the area and am very hungry.
The Swizzle Styx dined here last week and it was excellent. The restaurant is very nice and very clean. The service was top notch and the food was delicious and flavourful. Highly recommend 😊
Went for the lunch buffet. Everything was tasty, hot, fresh and the selection was great for the price! Defiantly a good value. Atmosphere is nice, great place for a lunch date or business lunch. Friendly service. Overall a good experience.
Its is a very good place for Indian food lovers located in the centre of the city. Food tastes very similar to the food in India. In snacks samosas and crisp snack salad (bhel puri) were great. In appetizers tandoori chicken is simply amazing with cilantro chatni(sauce). Entrees has a wide variety for veg as well as for non veg. I personally liked butter chicken, lamb roganjosh, dal makhni and aloo gobhi. Garlic naan was very good. I felt desserts were on weaker side. Ice cream was not an option, even a vanilla ice cream would be great. I felt that jalebis and rasgullas should be served a bit warm to enhance the taste. Rasgulla with vanilla ice cream would be like heaven. Carrot and coconut fudge were good. Rice pudding(kheer) was amazing.
This place has really changed for the better since it changed management. Wouldn't recommend it before but absolutely would recommend it now.
I like this place. I feel it is good value. Large selection on buffet and food is good. The service is fast and efficient. Good naan, good palak paneer, vindaloo is spicy...will go back again.
Overall Ivory is a nice place. The Service and staff were fast and friendly. The food I found to be a little bland. It could use more spices. The buffet was fully stocked and had a great selection of dishes. Had a nice experience. I would go back :)
I love the food here but if they are more spicy I will love it more! Sure they make the food less spicy/spices for the public to like it. Service is great! A bit expensive but for me its worth it. Buffet has lots of choices from chicken, shrimp, beef and lamb. You should try it but if you want to eat the real deal and not for the masses, look elsewhere! I am rating this based on the quality of food for the masses not by its autenticity.
It's a good mix for East Indian buffet, and it comes with Naan included in the price, which is a nice change. They could kick up the spice a bit more, but it's still tasty as is.
Amazing selection in the buffet, all your fave Indian dishes, salads, sauces and traditional deserts. Fantastic for vegetarians and carnivores. Veggie Korma, Dal Makhani are incredible!
Buffet comes with fresh Naan. Good selection of wine and beer.
I enjoyed my visit here and I would return.
I tried this place for the first time for lunch and I was pleased with the experience. The restaurant has a modern look and feel to it with ethnic touches accentuating the decor. There is a small lounge with a bar and a big screen television at one end of the restaurant, the rest of the space is the dining room.
The service was very good, particularly for a buffet restaurant. The place isn't huge, but there were only two servers and they covered a lot of ground with their attentiveness. My server was friendly and very quick to refill our glasses with water.
You have the option of ordering from the menu or going with the buffet. I didn't look at the menu, I immediately elected to go with the buffet. This place gives you complimentary naan bread with the buffet. You have a choice of regular or garlic naan. I ended up having some of each and I really enjoyed it. It was freshly made and had a good balance of soft and chewy parts with slightly charred crunch. As for the buffet itself, there was an assortment of salads (not sure if Rice Crispy Salad is very authentic!). There were various dishes that included vegetarian, lamb and chicken. I liked what they called Chicken 99, pieces of chicken cooked in a spicy red, tomato based sauce. I also liked their tandoori chicken. The chicken in both dishes were generally large chunks, mainly whole chicken breasts. The desserts included coconut fudge, galub jaman (which was served cold...not pleasant), and assorted East Indian pastries. While I was there they were constantly refilling dishes that were running out.
The price for lunch, including taxes, was $15.82. I didn't have a drink other than water.
This place inevitably will draw comparisons with East India Pub and Eatery. Make no mistake, I enjoy East India. East India has a larger selection of items. I found that the items in common to be better prepared at Ivory. The desserts, however, are more plentiful and better done at East India.
Overall, I enjoyed my visit and will almost certainly return.
The buffet was quite delicious. I really enjoyed the variety in the foods available and our server was very attentive with drinks and checking up on us (something that I find to be rare when eating buffet style).
The decor and atmosphere was quite nice, the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend eating here.
SO Good & Under New Management!. I went here eons ago, and the service/food was terrible.
My husband use to come for lunch and always thought it was good, but now he thinks it's great!
The service and the food were so good. The buffet is a great price considering the unlimited variety! $13.99 for lunch and $19.99 for dinner, free underground parking, super comfortable seating in the lounge and the TV's were a nice touch so we could eat some great food and watch the game. I had a really great time... it was the perfect setting for our date night!
New owners - new opinion for me!. This restaurant is completely different with new owners They are very friendly, quick service and the buffet was wonderful, even at 7pm on a Friday night! Amoung the four of us, not one complaint about the food, it was very tasty and we had to stop ourselves from getting more - we were so full! The naans are included, with garlic naans as a choice, they were made as we ordered.
It is more expensive than some buffets, $50 for two of us at dinner with nothing to drink except coffees with the sweets. Might be less expensive at lunch. It is a lovely place to hang out for the evening, we didn't feel rushed to leave and felt it was good value. Will be back!
Best Indian Food in Winnipeg. Since the recent change in ownership this restaurant is back to it's original glory. The food is great as is the service and the value of what you get for your dollar. Now that the founding chef is the owner food is second to none. If you like Indian food the way we do you need to check this place out.
Bad reviews what???. 1 word: buffet. Go right at 5 o'clock, the food is beyond delicious, try the na'an bread because the chef makes in literally 10 feet away from you and it is to die for!!!! Another thing though, if you are going to tip your waiters give them the tip directly otherwise they will never see it.
Pleasantly Surprised. As visitors to Winnipeg we must rely on recommendations from hotel staff and reviews posted on internet websites. When we searched for reviews, we were concerned to read of the rating that Ivory received on Urban Spoon. Quality of service seemed to be the biggest issue. With a craving for indian food and an aversion to walking too far from the hotel in the freezing Winnipeg night, we opted to give Ivory a try. And we were very pleasantly surprised. From the time we walked through the doors to when we left, we were well treated. The buffet was impressive - lots of variety and very tasty. Serving staff were attentive and friendly. And the prices were reasonable. Highly recommended for anyone who wants good indian food and good service.
I can't understand all the bad reviews on this place. The old owners might have had a bit of attitude but I have always found the food to be good and the new owners are VERY pleasant. I think the food has improved as well
New owners are great !. Have gone to Ivory a couple times a year when in Winnipeg. Last 2 times in April and May 2014 I have been pleasantly surprised with the new management.
Very friendly and eager to please. The new naan bread cook is excellent with the piping hot garlic naan.
I read a lot of reviews and agreed with the poor comments about the old owners but recommend you give it a try again as it is a big step up from the past.
Have gone to this restaurant a few more times since my last review. Food is really good! Brought my siblings, cousins from out of town and my boyfriend here and they all left this place with a positive mood. The management is good; he likes to make his customers laugh and he's on point with his service. I still recommend this place to everyone.

Satisfied. The food was great, the atmosphere was amazing, and the people there were very welcoming. Definitely going back there. I highly recommend.
The food was awesome, the staffs were very accomodating, excellent services, and friendly environment. I can say that I am one of their satisfied customers and will definetely go back there soon.
Last night we went to the Ivory restaurant to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and it was definitely a night to remember..my wife now wants to makes this our go to place for special occasions..everything was top notch. We had the buffet and were amazed by the variety that they offer plus the fresh and hot naan, every dish provided a different sensation to our taste buds, usually at buffers everything starts tasting the same but this was quite different. The service was outstanding, every time we needed something, it was already on the way before we had to ask. All in one, outstanding food, exceptional service and an amazing ambiance!

Must try.. Can't say enough nice things. The service was great, the food amazing, upscale decor.
I've had the lunch buffet at over 20 times, including today, and it's always good. The owner and staff are pleasant and the buffet is organized well and neatly.
Awesome lunch buffet. Bottom line: Killer lunch buffet with all the naan you want, great salad/chutney selection, and delicious entrees.
I've only ever gone for the lunch buffet and have always enjoyed it. My only complaint being that on my most recent visit they changed out their veggie pakoras for little potato discs and the potato-cauliflower dish was nowhere to be seen! The owner dude either recognizes our crew or feigns it expertly and has never been anything but ultra friendly and courteous.
Favourites: Channa Masala, Tandoori Chicken, and that delicious fresh naan to scoop it all up.

My husband and I ate here during our visit to Winnipeg and we left very, very happy. After reading the other reviews on this site, you would think that the female owner was the worst person in the world... But we found her polite and pleasant. We even stood there for an hour after eating to talk to her, and noticed that she treated all of the customers that came in politely and respectfully. They seem to have a lot of regulars, which I think says a lot about the validity of other reviewers claims about her... The food was very good and well priced. The Naan was amazing, especially the coconut. It wasn't the spiciest food that I've had but it was still very good.... The buffet was huge and the naan portions were large as well. The servers were attentive and we were never without drinks, their cocktails were also priced decently. The restaurant itself was very nice and classy, beautifully done. I really don't understand some of the other reviews. If you want good Indian food, this is the place to go.
Food is good. I have loved Ivory for years. I find Ivory isn`t as spicy as other East Indian restaurants....but still flavorful. Ivory is one of my favorites. I had never had a bad experience there. I`m disappointed after reading so many bad reviews. But here`s my review based on the food alone--Food is excellent. Always has been every time I go. The price is a little high but the buffet is large and varied. One word from the wise though -- don`t bring your children with you for the buffet. They will charge you FULL price for the kid...even if it's a 4 year old.
Favourite Indian place. I love this place not only for their Coconut Naan but for their service. we had a guy just to fill our water glasses alongside the waiter. The owners are really nice, and the food is fresh. great if you are vegan or you love meat. I go there all the time and never regret it.
The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very beautiful. The one problem is the lady at the front. She's wretched. She has a serious attitude problem, she will shake her head if you don't give what she considers to be a large enough tip. Her husband on the other hand is a gracious and wonderful man and a great host and restaurant owner. And the staff there are magnificent. For this reason and this reason alone I love this restaurant and I will overlook this lady's behaviour.

Try it, or try it again. I've heard the history, a split with EIC and some (serious) issues with employee tips a number of years ago that I have also heard were addressed.
And, the female owner.
No question, those were real issues.
Also real is that their buffet is REALLY good, certainly one of the two best Indian buffets in the city. In particular, the navratan korma and palak paneer is just crazy, crazy, good.
The last 6 times I've been there in the last 6 months or so, only the male owner is there. He is genuine, involved and makes us feel very valued and at home. The service is efficient and I've never seen a dish be anything but hot, fresh and full.
In my opinion, the past issues are just that... in the past... and the food is something I believe nobody has ever argued was very good. WELL worth a try, or to try again!
Simply fantastic!. I've been to Winnipeg for business a few times, and had a craving for some Indian Food.
This place was Fantastic. The decor is interesting and lively. The service is VERY attentive. The price is fine for all-you-can-eat. I was even checked up on by what I assume is the owners, even though it was busy. There was a real effort to make my meal enjoyable.
Everything I tried was superb and was bursting with flavor!
Everyone listen up! This is what a restaurant SHOULD BE!
Whenever I return to Winnipeg, I will be eating here again. Probably more than once a trip!
Service is awsum.. food is good compared to other restaurants...
Beautiful restaurant... amazingfood... must visit...
Food is fantastic! Very flavorful! Dinner buffet is great! I see people saying the service is bad but we've never had a problem. Our water glass is always full and the servers are very polite. And I also saw people saying the owners are rude but we found the opposite. The man is very nice and accommodating. The woman is less talkative but definitely not rude. I don't know where people are getting that. I give this restraint a 10 out of 10. :)
I have wanted to try Ivory for some time now but have put it off since hearing some not so good reviews about the food and the owners. The food was fantastic, the owners (both of them) were very pleasant and the service was great. I would definitely recommend it to others and will be back myself!
I thought the service was absolutely Fantastic!!! The servers must have filled my water glass a good 5 times even when it was only half full. Amazing! The food was great too! My only concern now is my tip going to the servers. I've heard rumors that the owners pocket the tips which I hope isn't true just because the servers we had were so great to us!!!
Absolutely fair!. It is ABSOLUTELY fair to comment on the ownership - especially if the behaviour of the owners affects the service a customer receives. The female owner is categorically rude and it astonishes me that year after year her behaviour remains consistently so. The male owner... definitely more polite. Concerns about ownership not giving servers their fair share of tips - COMPLETELY fair again! Especially, when a price for a private party is established with the owners and a gratuitity is factored in and the gratuitity doesnt reach the servers... but much of it stays in the owners' pockets! 100% fair to comment on this. These comments aren't personal - they they refer to a skill set that restauranteurs must possess.
Pretty good for lunch. Although the lunch buffet is a little pricey, it's usually pretty good. The male owner is very friendly and tries to get ingredients that are as local as possible.
I like the lamb, palaak paneer, and butter chicken. If you can get the naan when they first make it, it's very good (if they're not busy, the waitress will sometimes bring the fresh naan out to your table so you get it while it's hot).
While I like the food for the most part, I do agree with other commenters that they could stand to add a little more spice to some of the dishes, but I've never had anything that was dried out or didn't taste fresh.
Great buffet selection, however, the lady owner always makes you feel like your not really welcome.
Pretty Good. The food at this restaurant was pretty good, I highly recommend the Rice Pudding for desert. It is laid out in a buffet style so you can browse for what you want. One caution: It was filled with business people who were wearing suits, and dressed in normal street clothes I felt under dressed.
Awesome food. And buffay service is really good
Great indian food. I loved the atmosphere and the staff were friendly. Will definitely go there again on my next trip
The best Indian food in Winnipeg. I have tried everything vegetarian that they have on their menu and I love every single item. Their masala chai is to die for. The staff is friendly. Service is great.
Was pleasantly surprised to see how professional and authentic the food is out here in the middle of Canada.
Beef Vindaloo was extremely soft, Palak Paneer was a cheesy delight, Butter Chicken was actually flavourful and not a sugary mess.
Staff were consistent, kind and fast.
The Buffet is amazing, large selection of Indian Delicacies and Desserts!
Naan is hand made and cooked in front of you!
Desserts were lovely, the Jelebi should have been covered because it can dry out very fast but still tasted good. All the food was hot and flavourful.
The addition of Indian pickled foods is amazing and I wish it was included everywhere.
The drinks are a bit expensive but that's to be expected at any buffet.
Would happily return here!
Indian Seal of Approval! Haha!
Out favourite spot for authentic Indian cuisine. Everything on the menu is scrumpulicious!!! Highly recommended for both menu ordering and the buffet.
Love the new location, we ordered special without onion & Garlic and it was the best, The lovely new location is also amazing, the food was delicious loved the service by the staff and great taste and great menu. They also have Buffet if anyone wants to try with great options in that too.The Server YASHVI was very polite and helpful in describing the dishes for us as it was a Special order and the she provided the service in a good pace.
Best indian food I have tasted so far in winnipeg. Especially the buffet , its amazing n scrumptious 😋 Highly recommended
