Review Casa Grande Pizzeria - Winnipeg

Peter Liwyj
Hands down the best pizza I have ever had anywhere. I travel a lot and eat in resturants all over the country. I moved to Alberta over ten years ago and when I was back in Winnipeg for a couple days I had to make time to go pick up my old favorite. Not greasy. Perfect cheese. Fresh quality toppings. I really miss this place. Perfect for a date too. If you're passing thru Winnipeg give it a try. If you live there you're going to become a regular if you eat here. There aren't many good things about Winnipeg but this is one of them.

WOW! Some of the best Italian takeout I have had. The bread is worth going here alone! Staff super nice and massive amount of food! Cute place to eat in. Love the old school decor.

I ordered the Casa Combo pizza, this time around. It's always a solid pie. But, the true gem is dining inside Casa Grande. I'm excited to get back in there post-pandemic and enjoy some delicious Italian food; surrounded by brick walls and old Chianti bottles at the centre of each table.

Amazing food, amazing portions, pretty good pricing for the portion size. I had the spinach manicotti and the Italian wedding soup. Everything was amazing. Service was fairly prompt and our server had a smile. Upgrades for sides were available for everything asked.

Made reservations. They have a place upstairs for dinner parties or groups. Service was great. Our servers name was Loida. She did an amazing job with making sure we were always taken care of. I'm talking about a group of 11. You can see just how big some of the pizzas were. That is a XXL. If you have a show and save book that's even a bigger bonus because there are coupons for this restaurant. The pizzas were absolutely delicious with the cheese stretching out as you pulled off a slice. My favorite kind. And I had the chicken parmesan. So delicious. My sister had the cannelloni which was just stuffed! Also delicious! Great sized portions! I recommend it. Also included a picture of the downstairs dining area. Great for date nights!

The food and the service are great. The portions are big, and that's why it becomes expensive...The cost of the lasagna in the picture is 21 CAD. It's a really good option, but it's a little bit expensive. Other than that, good experience!

Really Great Pizza!!! Great food, garlic bread and bruschetta was nice, would have been better with real calbrease bread. But other then that, the pizza was great!! Service was excellent! Nice night out!

Excellent pasta and very friendly service. Lots of layers in the baked lasagna. Fettuccini with chicken was excellent

Excellent pizza at reasonable rates. Toppings were fresh and abundant. The restaurant itself is quite small and dated. Especially the bathrooms (yikes) But I didn't go the atmosphere. The food is the star and is well worth the visit.

I really do not what is going on with Casa Grande lately.
I went there 3 years ago a few times. The Seafood and Spaghetti in White Wine Sauce was great, as was my husband’s Ravioli in Marinara Sauce.
But the last few times, the food has really been going downhill. We ordered the Dinner for Two that included Veal, Pasta, Salad, Coffee, 1/2 Litre of wine and Dessert. The serving portions were barely a child’s portion, it tasted like leftovers. Even the salad was ridiculously small. They didn’t have the Spumoni Ice Cream and we were served an orange sorbet that was just crushed ice with some orange flavouring.

One time the Interact Machine was not working and the owner took our phone number. We went down the next day to pay our bill, there was no thank you or anything and because we were prompt, it wouldn’t have killed him to give a 10% discount or something for doing so.

The pizza we had delivered was very skimpy with the toppings the last couple of times. What a shame that this has happened.

Best pizza in Winnipeg...friendly and excellent service for such a busy restaurant.I especially liked the pizza but my friend really enjoyed the Fettuccini carbonara..Ive been coming here for years and I recommend it to everyone.

I have to start this off by saying that I am not the person who leaves reviews on restaurants, in fact this is my first one. I have worked in hospitality for 8 years and I know what these people go through on a nightly basis. However I was deeply saddened when I joined my parents for dinner at Casa Grande this evening and feel that I should say something. Casa grande has been one of my parents favourite restaurants for over 20 years (the stories could go on and on). It all started when my dad asked if they still had their spinach fettuccine, explaining that it was his favourite. The server rudely stated that they had taken it off the menu because they sold two a year and it was awful. Not well handled in my opinion. Later after our appetizer (the Italian Salad, delicious) my mother asked for another drink, the server quickly made his way over to another table without asking the rest of us if we needed one. My dad tried to catch his attention on the way back to the kitchen and the server seemed quite annoyed with my dad's request to see him. When he made his way back to our table, my dad asked that he fill the entire glass with ice before adding the rum and soda. The server rudely exclaimed "well would you like to make it yourself?". I was shocked. I understand smaller restaurants don't provide as in depth training to their staff as other restaurants, especially ones with long standing regulars that always keep coming back. However there is something called common sense and respect that I felt this server lacked. It's really too bad because the food was just as good as I had remembered it (my parents took me here ALOT). The food and ambience of this restaurant deserve a 4.5, unfortunately the service left a bad taste in my mouth.

Casa Grande serves authentic Italian meal. I was recommended by a colleague to check this place out so I took my family here last night!

The exterior of the restaurant is quite outdated, however, the inside is like nothing you would expect! Its decor and the dimmed lighting give a nice touch to the ambient setting, which I enjoyed very much.

Our entrees came with antipasto, Italian salad and garlic bread to start. For entree, we ordered the Fettuccine Carbonara, the Il Padrino pizza - meat lover pizza and the Veal Con Fungi - breaded veal cutlet topped with white wine sauce with a side of spaghetti.

The fettuccine carbonara was exceptionally creamy and flavourful! I would totally get this again!

The pizza was phenomenal! Its thick crust was crunchy, yet light and fluffy on the inside. The pizza was fully loaded with meat and cheese, it was definitely one of the best pizzas that we have had in town!

The veal was good, except it was way too salty. We raised our concern of how salty the veal was to the server and he fully acknowledged it, which we appreciated very much.

Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Casa Grande and would totally come back again! Its price range is comparable to the majority of Italian restaurants in town. However, at Casa Grande, you're definitely getting what you pay for because all meals come with massive portions. If you're looking for an authentic Italian restaurant, this is it!

Ordered a Greek salad and a combo pizza. Salad was bland with a very thin oil that definitely wasn't olive oil. The garlic toast was drenched with this same nasty oil.
The pizza had a burnt crust with unmelted Mozza cheese with a couple of blobs of sauce on top. It was disgusting.

Driving down Sargent ave trying to decide what to eat for dinner and decided to stop in at Casa Grande and give it a try. It has a classic Italian restaurant look;red and white checkered table clothes, brick and arches, pictures of old Italian guys on the wall, etc.

We ordered calamari to start, and while I liked the flavours, I felt that either they didn't fry it long enough or the oil wasn't hot enough, as the batter didn't crisp up.

Had a salad as well, which I did enjoy. I thought the shredded mozzarella was a good touch.

Then came my pizza. Delicious! Crisp crust, nice amount of cheese and toppings. My only regret was that I didn't order a larger size.

The service was good, too. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back.

Make a reservation! Theres only a dozen or so tables. And dont bother going to the second floor, always a party going on up there and your meal WILL be ruined... trust me. The main floor is very nice, dimly lit, candles, wood walls. Some of the round tables are rickety and sloped so if you are a group of 4 or less, ask for a square table. The marinara sauce they use on the pasta is awesome! Some of the best ive ever had... tangy and well seasoned. The spaghetti we had was perfectly cooked, i find most places slightly overcook so its too tender. we both had chicken parm and it was great, breaded chicken with marinara, cheese and parmesan cheese. Anyone ever notice how at many places the chicken parm has no parm???? Well this place does, and they even have a parm shaker on the table to add more! (dehydrated parm though).
The garlic bread isnt anything to write home about, very simple, but still good and half a loaf of bread! The bruschetta was nice but just average. The salad was really good! not huge but really nice dressing. The guy serving us was hilarious! I had my phone on the table because I just finished snapping pictures, and he came with our pepsi and pretended to put it on my phone and said "coaster?" we all laughed and then he said "theres an app for that!" and walked away. awesome! Overall nice little place, worth taking a look at, can get a bit noisy at times though.

I went for lunch here and was impressed with their , which was homemade, piled with plenty of toppings.

The restaurant is decorated in the style of a warm, traditional Italian restaurant, fit for a bunch of friends, family, or even a romantic night out for two.

Our server was really good, giving us enough space to have a private meal, but was always there when we needed something.

Definitly a must try for anyone who wants an authentic, homemade Italian experience!
Diana
They do something amazing with deep fried bread pieces & sauce. What an appetizer. Sometimes a little too noisy for my taste but food is worth it. Red checkered tablecloths and candles add a nice touch. Staff friendly & most times efficient. Pizza makes my mouth happy with all those flavors.

Third time being there tonight. Ordered two of the specialty pizzas - forget the names but one had spinach and feta along with sausage and the other was some sort of deluxe. Both were good!! I personally prefer thin crust wood fired pizza (think pizzeria gusto) but for a thick crust pizza with lots of toppings, it was great and tasted fresh. Crust was crunchy yet chewy and they didn't skimp on the toppings. I still go there for the cool little Italian environment so I'm glad to know that the food is still good.

Pro's - Pizza was better then i expected. Lots of toppings, bordering on too much in some cases. Dough was nice on a thin crust. Price is reasonable for Large.. XL and XXL dont seem worth it.
On leaving was given a take out menu and asked how meal was by someone from the kitchen who actually seemed to care about our experience there.

Con's - Dirty Tablecloths as mentioned in another review.
-Escargot was forgettable. Totally flat soda for one of us.
-Service was not on point. People seated after us were given waters first, even after staring at the waitress for 10 minutes. Waiter didn't ask how food was, just if we were done or not.

Take out or nothing.

Absolutely Delicious Pizza!. Living in St. Vital this place is quite a trek for us, but we tried it on a recommendation of a co-worker. It was great! We went on a weekend and it was very busy, but the staff was upfront about there being a long wait for pizza. It took almost 45 minutes but who cares...the ambiance was nice as it has very classic Italian restaurant feel to it. Let me tell you, the pizza was worth the wait! The thing was absolutely monstrous and all the toppings were very high quality. We only managed to finish half the pizza and we brought the rest home for another hearty meal the next day. 10/10, will be back.

Best Pizza in the city!. We ordered a pizza to be delivered from Casa Grande. The crust was thin and crispy, the toppings were generous. Best pizza in the city!!

SwizzleStyx. My group has been coming to Casa Grande regularly for many years and we've always had a great experience. The food is excellent and the service has always been friendly. The salads are great, the pizza is wonderful and filling with generous toppings and cheese, and the pastas are also delightful. On one visit the chef was super busy with a huge take out order so they warned us ahead of time that they would be a bit slower than usual. We had no problem with that on that particular day so we stuck around. They gave us an extra pizza and a round of wine to make up for it!! This is a great little spot and we will continue to go back regularly!

Seafood Spaghetti with Garlic and Oil. Fresh seafood; your choice off 3; I always pick scallops and shrimp and the simple garlic and oil sauce is so good! Never disappointed. Have held our group Christmas meetings here twice; everyone was awed!

Amazing customer service. I just want to say for those gluten free people out there this place is amazing! They go over and beyond for customer service! The group that I was with ordered a appetizer and of course it wasn't gluten free lol that's OK I am used to that! But when one of the chefs found out I was gluten free he went and made me a special appetizer that was gluten free and I didn't even ask! Like I said he went over and beyond! I will definitely be back!!

Amazing Pizza!!. First time we had dinner here. Looked a little rough, but staff are polite and very helpful and the pizza is the best we've ever had. Crust is crispy and not greasy, toppings were more than enough. Definetly worth the higher price!!

I went to Casa Grande for the first time and definitely Not the last. The pizza I had was excellent and my girlfriend was raving about her pasta. We also had a very friendly and down to earth waiter.

Best cannelloni in town. By far.

Won't be back in this lifetime. This review pertains only to the pizza. I always order a combo. In 50 years, this is the first restaurant that did not have a traditional combo (mush-pep-green pep) on the menu. They made one for me, and it lacked the oomph I look for in a good pizza. The ingredients were wholesome but it felt home-made, and not in the good sense..In addition, the place is run down. I can see it's popular, but in my quest for the perfect pizza, I am scratching this place off my list.

Pizza takeout from Paradise Restaurant on a good day still holds the title.

A Hidden Gem. Where do i begin? From the owners, to the menu selection, to the sauce etc. If you love to eat Italian this is the place to go! I have been going there since the early 90's and some of the dishes i highly recommend are the mushrooms, the Casa Combo Pizza, the tortellini, and the Italian salad. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is the best, and if you dare take a nice Spanish girl on a date, This is the perfect, romantic place to do it! I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Love this place. Went on saturday,Feb 8th. Had pizza with sausage and it was great.Started with the calamari and it was tasty.

How authentic can an Italian restaurant be if it runs out of olive oil at 5:30pm? Isn't olive oil a staple in Italian cooking?

We also ordered 3 Tiramisu's but were told that they only had 1thawed? How do u not have your most popular dessert ready to be served?

Overall: service was poor, food was bland and there was nothing authentic about this place.

Crab manicotti is delicious

YUM!. Visited Casa Grande for the first time this past week and loved it. The food was top notch, the service was great and you cannot beat the overall charm of the decor. We will be back to try other delectable menu items!

Firm ok. Went there for the first time yesterday at lunch. It was a firm ok. Pizza was pretty good, a little cold when it arrived at the table. Salad was gross, tasteless dressing and super oily. Service was attentive but at times felt rushed (kept asking to take plates away before we were finished and the bill was on the table well before I was done eating). I won't be rushing back. Also the trip into the dirty dungeon to get the bathroom is super gross, once you get there the bathrooms seem clean enough though.

Agree- gone seriously downhill. Used to live in the area and used to love it. However, we had a very sub-par experience last night. We were a party of four, and ordered one greek salad for 2, escargots, two orders of calamari and a 14" combo pizza. Bill was $120. Thats obscene.

The pizza was the best of the bunch, but was nowhere near what we were expecting for a $26 pie. As said here in other reviews, the sauce was extremely bland and they placed cold italian slami and capicollo on after it came out of the oven. Odd to say the least.

Greek salad was large but largely boring.

Calamari was comical. $12.95 per order and consisted of a handfull of tiny, soggy, devoid of any type of spice calamari accompanied with what I suspect was bottles seafood sauce. For $12.95 an order, I considered calling the cops. Complete lack of value for money.

Lastly, to our waiter, whom we tipped graciously- merry Xmas, tried to rush us out of our table three times. Not joking here, he brought the bill to the table as I was still eating. The place was not even half full. The last time he came to our table, he asked "do you want something else?" with clear contempt in his voice.

Perhaps its time for some reflection fo rthe Casa Grande group. Not a very good performance at all.

Something Has Changed!!!!!. Casa Grande USED to have the most amazing pizza. The meat toppings were high quality, lots of cheese, fabulous crust etc. Well that was back in the good old days. Our last two visits have been very DISAPPOINTING (most recent visit was Nov 23rd). We ordered a large La Callabresella pizza and are still looking for the calabrese salami and capicollo. There were lots of vegetables though if that's what you're after (sigh). Furthermore, it seemed like they precooked the crust in advance, then added the toppings before placing the pizza under a broiler for about a minute. Soooooo, even though the menu lists premium pizzas at premium prices, you end up getting a pizza that does not compare to those available from a take out franchise. Bottom line: Order the take out for half the price and pick up a nice bottle of wine with the money you saved!!!

Worst Salad Ever. I was hoping for something as delicious if not better than Sorrentos Salad. What I paid $15 for 2 was romaine lettuce drowned in olive oil (house dressing?) Oh there were a few pieces of mild (tasteless) capicolla, grated mozzarella cheese if you could find it, olives -plentiful, a few pieces of tomato. I failed to find the onion, green peper or cucumber. At least six in our party of 20 ordered salad and the consensus is this is the worst salad ever. Subway performs nuch better in the salad dept! On top of that we had pre-ordered the day before. When we arrived for lunch nothing was ready and we waited a half hour for our food. The sole waiter even told the group 'don't wait for all the food to arrive - start eating - it will be awhile before I bring everyone's." Never were we asked how our meal was. One fellow enquired if there was egg in the bread (allergies) and was told by the waiter he didn't know to which our fellow replied, "you don't make it here then." Others had pasta (store bought? definitely not fresh) and pizza which were 'okay.' Atmosphere was of an old, run down, dim, dingy restaurant.

Bad Experience. Ugh. I am really not a fan of complaining, especially because my family owned a pizza restaurant while I was growing up. But we had a really negative experience with Casa Grande tonight and all I could think to do was share it. We called to order delivery, and the person who took our order (we later found it was the manager) was very brusque and rude. He seemed exasperated throughout the conversation, even though I felt we were being very polite and reasonable. We initially ordered one medium and one small pizza, but he suggested we order two mediums to qualify for a 15% discount, which wasn't mentioned anywhere on the menu. We agreed to this. When the pizza arrived, the bill seemed quite high, and the driver didn't have any change, so we ended up having to give an $8 tip. The total was $55 for two medium pizzas, and it turned out there was no discount applied. When we called to rectify this, we were referred to the manager. I heard the person who answered saying we had asked for the manager (we hadn't) and heard him say "oh my god, fine" in a very exasperated tone. He did offer to give us a credit, but didn't clarify how exactly and just said he'd call us back. We will have to wait and see if that happens. I could tell it was the same person we had ordered from by the way he spoke and immediately knew our address - I hadn't even finished explaining the problem when he cut me off to say "the discount wasn't applied, right?" The pizza was overall very good, but the crust was honestly bland and quite hard, and I don't think it was worth what we paid. Maybe you are paying for the crazy amounts of cheese. I suppose if I have a credit on file we might be trying it again, and I sure hope it goes better next time.

Edit: just a quick update from December 12. Didn't hear anything back regarding a credit.

My gf and I went to this restaurant because there were really good reviews but we were disappointed with what we got. We did not place reservations but there was an open spot for us on the main floor. I felt it was an over crowded restaurant. We ordered pasta entrees: lasagna and chicken Alfredo. They were more pricey in comparison to other restaurants, but they were not out of the ordinary. Did not find anything special at this restaurant at all. Service, food and overall experience was mediocre.

Crap on a crust. Pros:
fresh dough, crust cooked well

Cons:
Tasteless sauce that has no seasoning in it and skimpy amount of sauce
RAW slimy bacon...you need to precook bacon before burying it under cheese
Breakfast sausage on a pizza??? also under cooked
Cheese was plentiful and tasteless
Cubed chunks of green pepper? Try slicing it
Pepperoni was there but had no taste

So all the folks who love this pizza...please explain in detail what we have missed? Is it the ambiance and alcohol that makes this "awesome/amazing" pizza? because it sure aint the ingredients. This is a real mystery. Have had this pizza a couple of times with no improvement.

Server was pleasant, but disappeared when he realized there could be a problem with our uneaten pizza.

Terrible Experience. My boyfriend and I went to Casa Grande for dinner a couple of weeks ago and were so disappointed in everything that we ended up walking out. It was a very unpleasant experience! We had heard very good things about this restaurant so we decided to try it out. When we called that day to see if we could get a table for dinner we were told that they only had space upstairs. We were fine with that, assuming it would be just as nice as the main dining area. We were placed upstairs and unfortunately it was overcrowded, smelt like urine, and almost as if it was where they stuff people when it is way too busy. We sat down at our table and immediately noticed that the table cloth was dirty with stains and crumbs all over it. Not appetizing at all. We politely asked our server for a new table cloth and were given a roll of the eyes as she changed it. We were none too impressed with the attitude as you would think that a restaurant would want it's diners to be eating at a clean table. We then ordered a bottle of wine, Mission Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, clearly stated on the menu. The waitress brought us another bottle of wine, Gallo Cabernet Sauvignon. Initially we didn't notice that it was the wrong wine. We started drinking it and it was awful. That's when we noticed that it was not the Mission Hill that we requested. We figured it was an honest mistake so we politely asked our server if they had Mission Hill and she basically told us that they no longer have that wine and only have the Gallo in a Cabernet Sauvignon. She didn't really think it was a big deal. That is when we started to get a bad taste in our mouths. You would think that if that wine was no longer available the server would have mentioned that to us upon ordering it rather then bringing us another wine that is the same type. Just bad service all together. We then ordered our salads and an appetizer. My boyfriend changed his to a Greek salad rather then the house. We waited quite a long time as the server was telling people that the kitchen was backed up. When our salads did arrive they were pathetic. My boyfriend did not get his Greek salad, we were both brought the house salad. At this point we were not surprised as everything had gone wrong from the start. The house salad was pathetic containing some iceberg lettuce, a couple tomatoes, and some grated mozzarella cheese. This was the last straw. We decided to go talk to the manager, square up our bill up to that point, and go somewhere else. My boyfriend went downstairs to talk to the manager and after explaining all that had happened was basically given a unconcerned response. The manager was going to make us pay for our bill but after reflecting on the fact that the wine we received was wrong, the salad was wrong, we did not receive our appetizer, and our service was poor that he would cover it. In all honesty we have never complained or felt so disgusted that we felt like walking out of a restaurant. Our experience at Casa Grande was very poor from the start and not one thing went right so we had to walk out. Our bill would have easily been $80-100 and for that kind of service and unappetizing environment and food it is not worth staying and battling through. We will not be returning to this restaurant and would highly recommend many other Italian restaurants in the city that have far better service, decor, and food.

Delicious food and a cozy atmosphere. The servers are very friendly.

Sit! Eat.. This is every Italian cliche you can think of. Dimmed interior with arches and gypsy-esque hangings...check! Garlic hanging in bunches and jars of pickled veggies floating about...check! Old wine bottles living a second life as candle holders with multiple generations of wax building down the sides...check! The thing is, Casa Grande does all of these things really well. The food is satisfying with a traditional sensibility; albeit not wholly. A heaviness pervades the food that removes it from being a more classic Mediterranean dining option. Pizza...good. It really isn't the star of the place anyway, that title is held by the atmosphere and the charm it instills in all patrons.

Our new go to place for pizza!. We had the Super Extra Large LaCallabresella to share with an an 17 month old, 11 year old boy and two adults. It was huge and deeeeeeeelicious for the supper we had there and for a few meals afterwards. The grated parmesan on the table was unusually tasty, I'd say it was grated the same day. We were also given a marinara sauce for dipping. We've lived in the neighborhood for a couple of years and we are so glad we found our new place for pizza. A friend of ours raves about the pasta primavera - that's next to try because we will be back to this cute italian restaurant with friendly staff.
ILoveGoodFood
Delicious!!. I have always enjoyed my meals at Casa Grande. My husband and I went for dinner here just recently to celebrate our anniversary and we loved our meal! We had the Casa Combo pizza and Spaghetti with mushrooms and marinara sauce - yummy! The pasta is always cooked perfectly. We always ask to sit on the main floor because it's so cute - looks like a scene right out of Lady and the Tramp. I'm not a huge fan of eating on the second floor because it's not as visually appealing. Overall, love this place - yummy food and good service!

Ok not great but you could do much worse than eating here

Food and serv..usually gresst but both can suffer if they are very busy. Best bet is to go for lunch or early in the week for dinner. Frank always aims to please and if on the rare rare occasion it is off' and anyone can have a bad night he allways makes it right. Cio!

Was here a week ago with friends including Sam's son Jim fro TO. Great veal parm, great service!

A Masterpiece. Someone over at Casa Grande Pizzeria took great pride in making my pizza tonight.

I called up just after 4pm on a weekday to find out when and where they delivered. They said that there driver was not there till 5. I said I would call back, and he said he would gladly take my order and have it ready for when the driver walked through the door. Right from the start you could tell why so many recommend this place.

I placed an order for a 14" L' amatese pizza which is topped with Italian sausage, feta, spinach, and fresh garlic. Casa Grande DOES NOT carry 2L bottles of pop. I'm guessing, (but not 100% positive) that they carry cans which are possibly rather expensive. In any case, the person on the other end said that in all honesty, your better off going across the street and buying a 2l from the store. Thanks for the tip?

The pizza arrived around 5:15 with a polite driver, and one hell of a masterpiece. When I opened the box you could instantly tell that rather then a chef, Casa Grande has working in there kitchen instead,,, an artist. The colours almost seemed strategically placed to make a map of goodness. And the pizza has a taste like no other. Your taste buds alone will be making you eat more then you can normally handle.

Pros:

The toppings are plentiful so fresh and tasty, the crust was absolutely perfect. Had such a thin layer of crisp to the bottom of this crust. The cheese was mostly feta with some mozzarella on there as well. I've had feta before that was so salty it was unbearable, this was not at all the case here, the spinach was very fresh and the sausage was nicely spread out. The garlic was amazing, thickly sliced and
extremely fresh, the way it should be. This pizza is right up there with the best of them. I never mind paying 30$ for a pizza of this quality

Cons:

I cant really say much here. The sausage was a little inconsistent when it came to taste, there were one or two bites that were rather spicy, then some bites that had little taste. The pizza was not as hot as I normally like when it came to the door, but this is really not there fault as feta does tend to cool rather quickly and well this was loaded with feta.

The Final Slice:

I will be ordering from Casa Grande again and again! And again!! I became a regular after the first few bites. Everything about this hidden gem screams quality. This pizza was so close to perfect that's it may raise my already critical standards. Casa Grande can officially add the Pizza King to the list of people that will highly recommend them, and as for the inconstant sausage.... I forgive you

If you enjoyed this review, feel free to add me on twitter @Wpg_Pizza_King where I will try and review at very least 2 pizza places a month and where you can help me decide where to get that great pie next.

Well, it didn't morph my power ranger.... After reading many rave review about the place, my husband and I went last Friday for dinner. We called for reservations and had no problem making them for 2 even on a Friday. The place is a converted old house and site right on the corner of Sargent and Erin, hard to miss. Parking is ample as well but careful in their lot behind the building, there are no lines (or pavement) so you're free to govern your own spot which seemed to lead to people parking in the entrance and not leaving space for people to get out properly without driving well over the curb.

Upon entering it's not particularly clear on where to go (turns out their IS a dining hall downstairs) and we wandered upstairs. The place is rather old and while some people would call it 'full of character' I thought it was more dingy than much else. When greeted we were asked to wait while a server cleaned a table for us even though there were many other tables available. The service throughout the night was not terrible but was nothing to compliment either.

We choose the Godfather pizza in XXL hoping to be able to bring home the leftovers to be lunches for the weekend. We substituted the beef for onions and wished we hadn't, we're pretty sure they used an entire onion (not an overstatement) of fresh, not cooked, onion. Both my husband and I felt slightly ill with it all and we picked off most of it.
While they certainly don't skip on the toppings, none of the toppings are particularly flavourful. The crust had a nice texture but was bland. The sauce was tasty by itself but was lost under the toppings. And to finish it off, the pizza was barely warm when we received it.

A quick hint! In the picture of the menu that I've attached, it does not advertise the XXL pizza (18"), the cost is around $42 for the pizza and will feed you for about 3 days... the problem is my appetite left after the first piece or two.

We also had the escargot ($8.95) which was ok but also not hot. They weren't the best I'd had but they weren't the worst and I probably would have preferred another plate of those as opposed to the pizza.

I hope it was an odd occurrence for them to have an off night but the prices won't make me want to go back. I was thankful to have the coupon from the Show and Save book (they have for the Entertainment Guide too) which took $17 off our bill ($which still came to ~$40 w/o ordering drinks) but was still disappointed upon leaving. It's just not a good feeling to spend your hard earned money on a disappointing meal.

I'd suggest Cookatoo's for oriental cuisine just 1 1/2 blocks west on Sargent, barely a 2 minute drive more for a much better experience.

Quick side note: We'd tried to go in July but they'd been closed for a week or two for holidays so call ahead as I believe it is family owned and not open every day.

Amazing Pizza. Amazing pizza, up there with some of the best pizza I have ever had. Great atmosphere as though you stepped into a little corner of Italy.

Worst service ever !!!. Its been a while since I been to Casa Grande and I do have very good memories, but most recently my visit was not good at all. The first spot we were seated at, had the air conditioner blasting right on it, haha not a good start, so they seated us at another table that was not the biggest but it seemed a bit more comfortable. So we ordered the mussels and a salad with cheese, capicola and olives to start and a pizza with clams, shrimp, and peppers for are main course. Well it took a while for the apps to come out, but once they did it was very disappointing. The salad came first, pretty dry with dressing, the greens and toppings were fresh, but lacked flavor from the dressing. The mussels came soon after, a nice hardy plate, but they seemed over cooked since every one of them was falling out of the shell. The mussels, were very bland, even though they were cooked in wine, very classic, there was no salt and no pepper, very weak and the mussels were for sure over done. The worst part came when during are apps the server came over and said our pizza is ready and coming out, even though I specifically asked for starters first. So some man came over said they were going to move us to another table, which they did, asked if we need help moving everything which in my opinion they should be the ones doing it. So the pizza came by this time are mussels were cold and we said we did not want to be having dinner this way, so they did offer to cook a new pizza so we could finish are apps. Fine, so wen are pizza came out, it looked not very good, the clams were barely recognizable, the shrimp was a sliver each and it all just seemed very bland and dry. The only thing good was the cheese. So anyways, are server apologized for everything, but just by looking around at other customers tables it just seemed like they were pushing people out, to bad cause I do remember it being very good at one time.
P.S. the kicker really came when they asked if we wanted the bill, no offer of tea, coffee, or dessert !!

Great Italian ambiance. Casa Grande is a bit of a hidden gem - unless you know about it, you'll probably pass right by it without giving it a second thought. If you're smart enough to drop in, though, prepare for a treat!

The best thing about Casa is the ambiance - the checkered tablecloths, candles on each table and Italian music in the background will make you feel like you've been swept away to Naples.

Of course, the food is what keeps the restaurant open - and for good reason! The antipasto is delicious, the pizzas are delicious (it's one of the few places in the city that I would say has great crust), and the pastas are gooey comfort food - their fettuccine alfredo on a cold winter's day is guaranteed to make you feel warm and cozy.

There are a few bottles of nice Italian wine on the menu (the variety isn't great, but the bottles they do have are a fine match for any of the food you will order).

I've never had problems with the service, although I have heard hospitality horror stories from this restaurant. That being said, I don't mind having to wait a few minutes longer for my cappuccino in this restaurant's great vibe.

Salute!

Candle lit dinner. If the windows were tinted I would've forgotten which continent we were in, the second we stopped in it felt as if we had just scored in Italy and found one of those hole in the walls you talk about for a long time. Service was slow but food was worth the wait. I had "il Pecatore," the shrimp and baby clam pizza - full of flavor. My friend ordered the classic Lasagna and said that there is a reason he always makes a B line through the menu for this dish. Quite pleasant experience, would definitely go again. Hopefully this encourages them to hire another server for the dining room. 6 out of 10 points.

Fantastic pizza pie.

Fantastic Pizza. Can't decide which is better, the pizza, the salads or the service!! We were there on a very busy Saturday evening, there were 8 in our party, and the service was the best, other restaurants in the city could take lessons from our waiter; and we didn't even get his name. He served us on the main floor, and was very personable.
Half of us had not been there before, and the other half that had, were the ones who recommended the restaurant. The salads and pizza's were much much better than what we had been told.
Will definately will be repeaters and will pass the word along.
Thank you Casa Grande, you are awesome!!!

Best Pizza I've Ever Had. I love this restaurant just for the pizza. I always think I'm going to try something else, but go back to the pizza. The crispiest crust I've ever had and some very fresh ingredients.

Great food. Great Italian atmosphere. My favorite fettucini alfredo in the city. Pizza is very good. The service is the only issue I would have with the place. But more often then not it is exceptible.

Great little place. We have been going to Casa Granda for over 23 years now. Tony and Frank know what they are doing when it comes to Italian food.
Recommend the pizza and greek salad. The pizza is always full of flavour and the toppings are plentiful. If you want a bit more, recommend you order the dinner special for 2, you won't go home hungry and it's a fantastic deal.
The decor is quaint, love those red checkered table cloths and the dripping candles adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. We've never had a bad meal, the service is always great, thanks to Terry. To make sure you are not disappointed, recommend you always make a reservation. When leaving, ask for a menu to go, I guarantee you will order again for pickup when you have a craving for a great pizza! Enjoy!!

Consistently good food- reasonably priced.. I've never had a bad meal at this restaurant and have been here for birthday dinners, nights out with friends and work parties. Pasta dishes are always tasty and portions are large- which means we have yummy leftovers for the next day. Service is always attentive- and I've never had any problems making a reservation here. Love the authentic Italian look in the restaurant with the checkered tablecloths and candles on every table. Will keep returning to this restaurant.

LOVE IT.. I love this place. I love the food, the service, the atmosphere. My husband and I have been going here since before we were married, and now we even take our kids. I LOVE every single thing about Casa Grande.

Memories. My wife and I went here a lot when we were dating. It's always nice to go into a place and have someone say " How have you been? Come sit down.".
The food was always delicious and plentiful. I don't think we ever finished half of our entrees and I can eat! If you like real North American Italian cuisine this is the place.

P.S. I didn't even think they allowed vegetarians in a place like this.

Disappointment!. They do not take reservations. If you put your name on a waiting list and they say 1/2 look for another restaurant as we waited 3 hours to sit down. Items wanted on the menu were sold out ~ does that make sense?! The vegetarian at our table was disappointed what was available. Owner at the door was letting others walk into the restaurant with no problems. Portions of the soup were not consistant with others at the table. Shrimp was dry. Coffee refills are the same price as the first fill.

Fantastic! Have gone there for years. Nice, cozy atmosphere. Great food all around. Make sure you have a reservation on the weekend!

I love Casa Grande. It's a hole-in-the-wall on Wall St. and Sargeant Ave. It's Italian, and it's good. It's really good. In fact, I don't think I've ever eaten anything on their menu that wasn't tasty. Mind you, I always order 1 of 3 things, so maybe I'm biased. But I'll tell you what, if you order the cream sauce pasta with mushrooms, you'll never finish and you'll not regret it.

I see no reason to go back to Casa Grande. Understaffed, average food, and expensive. No thank you. I was very surprised by our experience, because it seems like eeeeeveryone loves this place. I hate to be a stick in the mud, but I see nothing exceptional about this joint.

I have rediscovered Casa Grande just recently but it sure looks as if their following has not waned over the years. We arrived for lunch before the strike of noon and managed to snag a table but had we been detained we might have been out of luck. I recom
