Well it is the hype! The look and feel of the place was trendy, creative, open and cozy. It was decorated very well and the sight lines to the bar and pizza oven was a nice touch. The menu was good- salads, appys, pasta, pizzas, desert, wine, cocktails all good selection. The service was really good. She was attentive and timely, professional and paid attention to the details. I will admit the $ was not "value" or "cheap" and nor do I expect an outing like this to be. There's a price for the service, selection and a great clean well decorated space. Everyone of us enjoyed our meals and would return again. I do agree with some other reviews I've read...... the noise level is difficult to deal with so fixing that issue sooner than later would help make the guests experience a little more enjoyable. (It's nice to chat with the people you come with )
Fantastic pizza, great service and atmosphere. Love the patio. Totally recommend.
This was our second time at Pizzeria Gusto. They recently went through some big renovations and the new look is stunning. The layout has improved tremendously with beautiful modern decor and design and pops of rustic charm throughout. The staff are friendly and professional. And the food is superb! I love that their menu is not overloaded with options. The menu includes plenty of well crafted pizzas, the Gluten Free Sinatra being my favourite (hold the yoke) Yes they do gluten free pizza! And It is amazing!! As well they offer a selection of traditional Italian Appetizers, Salads and Main Dishes, all with a modern rustic twist.
I have been here 3 times now with friends for birthdays and just nights out. The food has been spectacular, the service is great and the consistency from each time is spot on. My birthday is in a couple months I will certainly be back yet again. The Ryall Pizza is my ultimate favourite with added meat. The cocktails they suggested were amazing and just a must visit for anyone who hasn't gone. The cooks there sure put together such flavourful dishes! 5* in my book!
Been here for 2 different Christmas parties 2 years in a row, and never disappointed!! Great service- good atmosphere and most importantly the food is to die for! The Sinatra is hands down the best Pizza in this City 🍕
The new Reno inside looks absolutely great and the patio area was so relaxing. The food was sensational and the service was exceptional! An absolute must for people to go to!!!
One of my favorite restaurants in the city! Amazing food, great service and love the wine list.
An amazing dining experience!
Outstanding service and atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious! Reminded us of the Pizza we had in Lake Como, Italy a couple of years ago.
This was my second time here and I absolutely love it. The renovation was beautiful and it's so bright and vibrant now. The food is also delicious. I was, I'll admit, a bit disappointed when we arrived and were seated at the bar, but that quickly subsided when I realized how interesting it was to watch the chefs work making the pizzas. Props to them for interacting with us while working effectively and efficiently, and answering all of my questions. I will definitely be back!
Menu is amazing! Complemented with a great wine selection makes every meal outstanding.
We had the first meeting of the Winnipeg Pizza Club here, and it was an amazing first outing! The food was fantastic (I had The Don pizza as well as the meatballs), and the staff was just wonderful. Hats off to Pizzaria Gusto!
Being from New York City I have been to a fair amount of excellent Restaurants. Pizzeria Gustav ranks with the very best! Fantastic food and just an awesome staff.
Always a great meal and the new renovations are gorgeous. Can't wait for more meals here!!
The staff were very attentive. The ambience was really cool. The food was excellent. I would go back any day of the week!!
Tight seating the one time we’ve been, but pizza was great. A bit loud for table conversation, but it’s a crowded and popular restaurant, so it is to be expected.
First time going since renovations, there’s so much room!! As always, it was fantastic. Service was great, friendly, very knowledgeable. Very accommodating. I didn’t realize this was such a ‘family’ place either. I was a little put off by the amount of children there. Definitely more than I’m used to at a fancier restaurant. But all in all a great experience.
Everything a local restaurant should be. Excellent service and great food. Ordered the antipasto. Excellently laid out, the server knew and explained the plate. Ordered the Sinatra pizza. We loved it and just enough for us with the antipasto. Great room and patio.
Very prompt service. Everyone was great. Food is fantastic. Ceasar salad was awesome. Ordered the 887 pizza as our main course. High class establishment. Recommend Pizzeria Gusto
My fiancé and I visited this restaurant for lunch. It was both of our first times here so we didn't know what to expect. There were only 3 tables occupied and our server was friendly and prompt. I ordered a Caesar salad to start and we had The Don ($22) and Lucia ($21) pizzas as our main courses. The salad was delicious and the pizza crust was perfect. A nice place to try, if you haven't already and definitely on the pricier side. I would give it a higher rating if there were pasta options and if the price wasn't so high.
This is definitely one of my favourite pizza restaurants in town! I've been here twice and it's always busy here even on a Tuesday so make sure to make a reservation if you're going! The restaurant has a nice ambient, which makes a perfect setting for date nights. My Significant Other and I ordered The Don, which is similar to a Meat Lover pizza, and Regina Egitto, which was recommended by the chef. That was the perfect amount of food for the two of us. The food is a bit more pricey but it's totally worth it.
If you would like a good show that is put on by the chef, I'd recommend going on the weekends.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this restaurant to all those pizza lovers!

+4.5
Food was great, service was wonderful. New chef kicks ass! Le Burger was excellent for pizza joint. Nice atmosphere. Def come again!! Thanks for great lunch!
I love pizzeria gusto however in recent times I have found myself a tad annoyed. They have a new host, who is extremely rude and sarcastic. I dropped in for some food and a drink on a Tuesday night, without a reservation and instead of just turning us away politely, he constructed a convoluted and caustic sentence to tell us we could not dine. We then got a reservation a few days later and returned. This time we greeted us in an equally sarcastic manner and then proceeded to place us at the bar. Not only did we go through a reservation we were deemed unworthy of a table and placed at the bar and refused a seat on the floor. He said he simply didn't have room for us. Even though, like the other diners, we had also made a reservation, we were still turned away because we were a party of two and "wasting" table space on two is not okay. I was thoroughly unimpressed. Later in the evening, he had the audacity to come over and try to befriend us after his negative actions. Great restaurant, horrible host
I really really really like this place. The pizza is so good. Its so busy and buzzing and i love the noise and a cracked egg on a pizza never hurt anyone. Its phenominal.
Pizzeria Gusto remains one of my favourites for pizza in Winnipeg. The star is of course their pies, all finished in their huge traditional Neapolitan wood fired oven whom all come out fresh and delicious topped with a combination of old traditional and new flavours. Definitely worth a visit for those with a craving, just make sure to snag a reservation or be prepared to wait.
Very nice flavors on the pizza. They have so many pizza combinations to choose from it's difficult to pick. I ordered the 887 and the Regina. The Regina had a nice subtle sweetness to it from the pair and I really enjoyed it. Would've enjoyed the 887 more if I ate it right after it was made, but unfortunately had to order this one to go. The mozzarella was already solidified once I got home, but that's not their fault. Can't wait to go back and try more pizzas. They are a bit pricey but I think they nail it with flavor.
Great food, great ambiance, great service. My favourite pizza here is the Medico, it's amazing. Some of the pizzas aren't that good in my opinion, though. In the summertime, the patio is wonderful! Would definitely recommend this place.
My group had lunch here today and I'm not sure we'd go back. The patio is lovely and it was a great day to sit outside. The service was very good, no complaints there. The food was good, I wouldn't say great, but it was OK. The prices are crazy! $21 for a glass of wine! The pizza was good but I wouldn't say $22 worth of good. I don't mind spending good money on a fine dining experience but I found this place just OK with crazy prices.
Amazing food and service! I've been here 4 or 5 times and have never been disappointed with what I ordered. Beet and goat cheese salad, Waterloo pizza, charcuterie board, cheese board, and the feature bruschetta have all been delicious. Really nice wine selection and good service. Check this place out but make sure to make reservations as it's always busy.
Had an amazing experience here a few nights ago. Our server was attentive and the food was spectacular. The dish I cannot stop thinking about is their fettuccine carbonara, which is one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. The pasta has the perfect chew to it, there's the perfect amount of sauce, tons of crispy guanciale, and you can tell they use great quality ingredients. Days later and my mouth is still watering just thinking about it!
The menu is very unique and everything I tried was really tasty. The chef is creative and uses good quality ingredients. This is a high end pizza place and it is definitely priced that way. You'll have a great experience, but don't go here if you're expecting a cheap slice!
Had a great experience here. Out for a nice evening to celebrate a raise at work and could not have been happier.
We had arrived a little early for our reservations so we were sat up at the bar and had a great conversation with the friendly staff as we waited. Very knowledgeable on the various items on the drink menu.
Right on time we were given our table and we set at ordering from the extensive menu. So we put in our order and continued to talk for what seemed like maybe 10 minutes when a manager came up and explained that they mistakenly jumped another tables order in front of ours and apologized profusely. We honestly didn't even notice or thought that it was taking longer than it should have but he insisted that he give us a rather large discount on our food and drinks as well as free desert if we chose to have any. We tried to say it was not necessary but he insisted and before we knew it, he had another round of drinks at our table for us. It is not very often you see this level of customer service. I was sold on going back before I had even had the meal because of this.
After that, the food came very quickly. I had the Margarita pizza but I unfortunately cannot remember what else was ordered a the table (I am terrible with names) but they were some of the best homemade pizza I had ever had. If the service had not sold me on coming back, the food most definitely would have.
After we were done with our food and were rather stuffed, the manager still insisted we have a desert on the house. Tried to say that we could not eat anymore if we wanted to so they brought out a surprise desert to go with our final bill.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to others. Great food and even better service!
This is a great place for a pizza. The summer is especially great with the patio. The Sinatra pizza is always a favorite with me.
Sometimes their specials are great. I always get them if they are pasta based. They always seem to knock those out of the park.
One word. Fantastic.. The service was personal and informative without being cloying, which is our preference. Our server quickly identified this as our first visit, and proceeded to review the menus with us, both food and wine, and went through the appetizer and main course specials.
We settled on the Caesar Salad, the 887 pizza and an off-menu pasta (the Talby) which is conchiglie pasta with red onion, wild mushroom, pancetta and arugula in a white wine sauce. Possibly the best pizza dough I've ever eaten. I would happily have only the pizza crust baked with some olive oil.
I highly recommend Pizzeria Gusto.
I often crave this pizza but don't make it to the restaurant that often. Hands down best pizza ever created. Love this restaurant!
Good Food takes good time. This place has the best pizza in city hands down I have yet to see a place beat the quality and selection, but expect your pizza wait to be above average as well, and reservations are highly suggested. The atmosphere is nice and they have a killer patio in the summer. This isn't a take away pizza experience, it is a night out at a fine dining establishment... yes at the end of the day it's still pizza and the place is totally too stuck up for pizza but it is a pretty place, that at the end of the night really is serving good pizza.
Loved it!!. A group of four of us tried here this past Saturday night. We were sat at our reservation time. Our server was awesome and very helpful with our questions with the menu. We started with the calamari. Then 3 of us shared 3 pizza's The Dom, The Sinatra and hands down our favorite of the 3 the Waterloo. I was still thinking about this pizza on Sunday. The fourth had pasta with clam. Everything was very well done. Yes it is loud not a place I would go for a romantic dinner but for 4 friends to have some nice wine and laughs this is a great place. We will be back for sure.
Buffalo Mozzarella!. We just had the beet, arugula and goat's cheese salad with a Margherita pizza and it was wonderful! The real buffalo mozzarella was a treat well worth the higher price, and the crust reminded me of Rome.
We will be back to try the dinning-in experience as we had quite the drive home which made the pizza soggy and cold--I can imagine how amazing it would be, hot to the table. :)
One of my favourite restaurants in the city! Pizzas are to die for! I've read most of the reviews on here and a lot of them complain about prices,.. Honestly it's not crazy expensive. You are getting pizzas that are made with fresh, local ingredients! It is definitely worth every penny! If you want the typical restaurant pizza stay at home and order 222. If you want to experience authentic Italian food quit bitching and try it!
One of my Faves.. Excellent naked Calamari appy. Tasty GF pizza with mushrooms and sausage topping. service is tops. Has several staff bringing dishes, wine, water and whoever passed by removed as necessary.
Just a general caring attitude by all servers, not just a dedicated person. Glass of Red Wine was on the warm side, but a side of ice cubes was offered instantly. We sat at the bar and chatted up many of the friendly management and staff.
OMG ....... Love, love love, this is what pizza should be like! From the greeting at the door, our wonderful server and the food, what a great experience it was. We will be back and will recommend to friends and family!
Hands down the BEST cinghiale this side of Tuscany!!! Outstanding flavour with perfect homemade pasta... phenomenal! Brussel sprouts done to perfection, caprese salad that's so fresh you can picture summer, and wood fired pizza that's perfectly baked with the most perfect pizza dough & toppings. One of the best places in the city! Yummmmmmmmm!!!
And the wine list is fantastic! All Italian with crazy fun & interesting choices. Perfect choices for the style of food. Really exciting to have something different for a change. Love it!
And the staff... the best! Friendly, knowledgeable, & efficient.
Very good gluten free pizza. My husband and I shared 2 gluten free pizzas here. We sat at the bar, right in front of the fire oven and had fun watching them make pizzas all night. My husband is not G.F. but commented to the chef about how great the G.F. crust was. The chef then informed us what was in the crust and I nearly died when he said one of the ingredients was "almond flour"....we had even told our server my husband is allergic to nuts. We'll he didn't die and he ate the leftovers the next day! Now we're not sure he's allergic to almonds...?? Anyways very good all the same. Although my pannacotta was not set and tasted like minty, milky soup, I ate it without complaining and we will be back again.
Impressed!. Went here for Valentines Day. Packed place. Nice environment. Wasn't too thrilled to be sat a long table that was seating two other couples right beside us though. Would've preferred some privacy.
Our server was awesome! Very friendly and was quite helpful with any menu questions.
Our appetizers were pretty good : the bruschetta was very fresh tasting. We ordered calamari as well but I wasn't too fussy on it. I'm normally used to a thicker, breaded type of calamari whereas this one was very thin circles. Kinda hard to explain. It still tasted good but probably wouldn't be something I'd order again.
Boyfriend got The Don and loved it and I got the Romesca. VERY happy with the pizza I got it was delicious! The dough is nice, light and very fresh tasting. Definitely would recommend anyone to try this although it does have a kick - a spicy red pepper sauce (which is mentioned in the menu)....definitely has some spice but it's not overwhelming. So as long as you don't mind a little heat, give this pizza a try!
Noticed that everyone who was leaving complimented the chef on a great meal so the other diners seemed very pleased too :)
Good for Dates. Nice place to bring your date. Good food, fair atmosphere, but a bit pricey.
THE BEST!!. I always love coming here. The staff is friendly, the food is amazing and the Lucia pizza is to die for!
I'm surprised at the reviews on here complaining about sitting up at the counter as I have always found it a rather fun experience, definitely not a justified reason for knocking this fantastic gem of a restaurant. I encourage these counter-snobs to sit back, relax, and enjoy a nice big glass of wine :)
FIVE STARS!
Pizza Perfecto!. This pizza is the closest thing I have found in Winnipeg that resembles the pizza we had in Italy last summer. So you're paying $17-19 for a 10 inch, but where else can you order pizza with ingredients like buffalo mozzarella, fig jam, arugula, smoked salmon, roasted potatoes and pears?! We only go a couple of times a year for a treat, but it's well worth it. The restaurant has lively, bistro atmosphere and a beautiful heated patio during the summer. Just be sure to make a reservation!
Our favorite place. We want to visit this place more than twice a year but time is never on our side. This is our favorite place. Calamari is good not your typical flour deep fry. The grilled Caesar salad & roasted beet salad are great summer time dishes. The medico pizza with an egg is the best. I want to try other pizza here but just love this one. The Lucia is my wife favorite. So wish this place was on the north side of Winnipeg. You can't go wrong here, especially if you great a beautiful night on the patio.
Awesome place to try. All the pizzas were great and excellent toppings. Little pricey but worth it
Went there on a Saturday night (made a reservation). The food is good, not off the charts amazing but it's fine and our server was great. He was very patient with us (talking so much he had to come back twice to take our order). It was very nice to be able to sit on the patio, the noise level inside was a bit much.
What a great place! We went during a dinner rush with no reservation and they made us a table with no hesitation. Each course was absolutely perfect. From the appetizers to main course everything was spot on. Great experience!
Outstanding pizza!. We took my Brother out for dinner last night, I'm so glad we chose Pizzeria Gusto! We started off with Calamari and Salumi, the Calamari was light and tasty with the subtle hints of lemon and roasted garlic the breadcrumbs a nice touch to give it crunch, the Salumi selection was small but a nice selection of tasty meat and expensive cheeses served with olives, pickled and sliced vegetables and mustard next time I would ask for more toasted bread rounds when first ordered, they brought out more but we had eaten most of the appetizer. We brought our 3 kids along that night and Pizzeria Gusto were very accommodating and said they could make up special pizza or pasta dishes for them. We chose to get them Italian pepperoni pizza and cheese pizzas which they loved! My husband and Brother went for the Sinatra pizza they both loved it and dipping their pizza in their egg yolk. I chose the Lucia with caramelized onions, fig jam, calabrese salami, cambozola, citrus tossed arugula, pecorino it was heavenly and everyone who had a nibble of it loved it too, it had the perfect balance of sweet and savory, I loved the salad on top. Everyone loved the unique forks with mini pizza cutters on them, the waiters and waitresses were very friendly, prompt and knowledgeable of the menu. I don't know why everyone is complaining about the prices, when we got the bill my husband thought they charged us wrong because it was so low for all we ordered plus wine. If you want cheap over the top greasy thick cheesy pizza don't come here, if you want pizza like they make in Naples and a unique dinning experience come here you won't be disappointed, can't wait to go back, my Brother's already making plans to take his girlfriend there. My husbands family is right from Italy and still live there so he knows good pizza and is very fussy, so if he can't stop raving about it it had to be good!
Fantastic pizzas cooked in a wood burning oven, friendly service and great atmosphere. Well worth a visit!
Great pizza. Ate on the patio here yesterday evening with a friend. We shared a Gusto salad to start (no complaints, very fresh tasting). I had the Lucia pizza, which was fantastic, and also tried the Regina Egitto (good too).
All of our dishes arrived in a timely manner and were prepared well. Our server was personable and helpful. All in all a great dining experience.
Amazing. Had dinner here least night, and everything was amazing! It's so nice to have a good quality pizza place in the neighborhood!
You can tell they only use high quality ingridients, and really care about what they serve.
Favourite !. Just thinking about it make me want to go ! This is from far one of my favourite restaurant in town. Food is amazing and the pizza are the best ever.
And i'm not a desert person at all (specially with chocolate!) BUT when i go there, despite i'm already full, i have to take the chocolate cake with olive oil and salt. I love it so much that now every time i eat chocolate stuff i have to eat it that way!
Best Authentic Pizza in the PEG. Pizza to die for!
Each individual pie has its own completely unique flavour. I have loved every single item I've tried.
Highly recomended
Pizza the way it should be. Ok, so went this past summer with a friend of mine, and it was amazing. We sat outside, and it was class at its best. There is inside dinning, which is darker, and outside has tables, and lounge couches, for even just appitizers and some amazing wine.
I did have italian wine, it was amazing, and ask the waitresses as they know what goes with what food.
I had what I believe was the Regina Egitto, my apologise's if this is incorrect but has been a few months since i was there. I also had an egg as well, and it was perfect.
My friend had a special which was fish, and had oranges on it, and it was amazing as she was nice enough to let me try some. We also had the roasted brussel sprouts, forgot to take a picture... However, it was worth it.
Yes it is pricey, but its quality of food, and all homemade and fresh.. you can taste the difference, this is no pizza hotline at the end of the day.
Best date night pizza. Wonderful staff & great pie - get a seat on the patio for a wonderful summer night.
Very Good!. The waitor we had was amazing. He was attentive and personable. We had a table of four. The pizza selections were very good. I had ordered the pasta of the day, very tasty. Our appetizers were mini-brushettas, the meatballs and the insalata caprese. Nice bites to share. Deffinitely would go back, especially for the patio.
Excellent all around. This has become our mainstay. We're here twice a month and we've enjoyed every meal. There are a few rare times when the food hasn't arrived at the table perfectly hot, but on most evenings everything gets an A+. It's the attention to detail that makes this place. It's evident that they're using quality ingredients and the little details really define the experience. Other restaurants in Winnipeg don't always put a premium on textures, presentation and an insistence on freshness and quality even for the ingredients you can't see. But Gusto does, and for us it's what keeps us coming back. I hope they inspire other restaurants to follow their lead. It really is a great place. For the quality, it's also fairly priced and the wine list is my favourite in the city.
Excellent!. When my bf and I first tried Pizzeria Gusto it must have been at least 3-4 years ago. I remember we had a tasty grilled romaine salad, a Sinatra pizza which I loved because of the egg on top, and a 4 cheese pizza which was the only pizza on the menu my bf would eat and unfortunately hated. Due to that we never revisited in fear that he would find nothing he likes (oh give me a break!). Finally, this past weekend I convinced him to give it another shot thinking that I'm sure they have made some menu changes in the past few years. Sure enough, the menu had changed with new pizzas being added and old ones such as the 4-cheese disaster removed. While it was 9pm the restaurant was noisy and packed but we got sat right away at the bar, which I enjoyed because I could watch the chefs make pizza. The restaurant does not serve hard liquor and so my bf and I opted for a crisp, slightly sweet glass of white ($11/6oz). We were informed of the few specials the restaurant had to offer for the evening (no pizza specials) and started off with the watermelon salad with ricotta salada. The salad was cubed watermelon sprinkled with ricotta salada, freshly ground black pepper, toasted pine nuts, and fresh basil leaves. I know what you're thinking: watermelon and cheese, really? REALLY. It was AMAZING and so fresh tasting. The waitress said they were thinking of adding it to their new upcoming menu and I hope they do because I would order it again in a heartbeat. For dinner, I had the Regina pizza which was covered in sweet pears, loads of salty proscuitto, and peppery arugula with parmesean cheese (no tomato sauce). It was very tasty with all the different elements (sweet, salty, peppery) complimenting each other, and while some may say pricy at $18 it was definitely worth it especially since I had leftovers. My bf had the Don pizza which had salami and sausage with a spicy tomato sauce. Despite all the meat and cheese you could still taste the wonderful tomato sauce. I guess that is the difference with this restaurant--when you are using all high quality, fresh ingredients there is a very notable taste difference. For dessert we had the feature which was 6 homemade cookies ($6) which I paired with their tasty, strong coffee ($4/cup). The peach biscotti were delicious--I have no idea how they got so much sweet, peach flavor into a cookie. The pistacchio cookie was also good but did not pack as much flavor as the biscotti. The last cookie was a dark chocolate shortbread with sea salt sprinkled on top. While I thought it tasted burnt and bitter (I like sweet desserts) my bf absolutely loved it. Including tax everything came to $90. I thought it was worth every penny. Service was perfectly attentive, super friendly, and we also enjoyed chatting with the chef making pizzas. The other thing I enjoyed is that by around 9:30-10 the restaurant had emptied out and it was noticibly quieter. When we first entered the restaurant it was super noisy and I don't think I would have enjoyed my dinner as much if I had to sit through that the entire evening. I will definitely be back to Pizzeria Gusto sooner than later this time!
Worth the visit. Overall our experience there was good. The service was great and the waitress was attentive and we never had to ask for anything. We had 2 appetizers...the portions were pretty small, but they were good! The pizza was excellent. i'd rank it on the top of my list as far as wood fired pizza goes. the crust was perfect and the toppings were great. i would definately reccomend going there if you want a good, gourmet pizza. The price was fair..we had a couple drinks, the 2 appetizers, a pizza and the chocolate tart for dessert(which was amazing, except the salt on top was al ittle different) our bill was just under 80$...
if your looking for a good, classic gourmet pizza, and are willing to spend the money on it, then this is the place.
Pizza the way it should be.. THE MOST authentic and traditional (as in Neapolitan) wood fired pizza in town. PERIOD!
The Matolas spent considerable time and money constructing an authentic wood burning pizza oven, travelling to Italy to learn to make traditional dough is properly made and the oven I properly heated and fired.
They made it the center piece of their restaurant and part of the thrill of dining in this sophisticated and chic space is watching the chef stoke the fire and pull bubbling crisp pizzas out of the glowing coals on a massive peel.
That only makes it a show. It's the careful selection of the finest ingredients (San Marzano tomatoes, bresaola, prosciiuto for instance) and the insistence that you only need four ingredients that makes this a great pizza.
As they say, the proof is in the pudding, or pie in this case. Dough is made fresh twice a day and with super traditional toppings that even my Italian friends have a hard to to pronounce, you simply won't find pizza like this anywhere else in the city.
And that's something you should be prepared for. This is a pizza experience. It will expand your understanding of the form. It may leave you feeling out of your depth on your first visit. There is no ground beef nor oozing layers of cheese. Sauce at best may be a pesto but is mostly likely a simple oil, or layer of tomatoes. It's likely there will be greens added once the pie leaves the fire.
Don't let that deter you from follow up visits. Personal taste for toppings notwithstanding, I haven't had a pizza I didn't love, not to mention learn someting from.
Not surprisingly the wine list is fiercely Italian and offers perfect pairings from several of the country's most notorious regions. Servers are knowledgeable and polite and capably help select a match.
Good food, friendly staff but not worth the money. $70 plus tip for 1 appetizer, 2 pizzas and one glass of wine. Not worth the $80 night.
Great meal, had the antipasto, vongole (spectacular), and calamari appetizers which were all very good. Pizzas were very good and service was very good as well. If I lived here I would be a regular.
*Drool*. My husband & I took my mom here for her birthday last night & it was a first time for all of us.
First thing's first, the decor is minimal but very cool. I thought it was really neat that the pizza oven was within view of the dinning area. Wait staff were very well dressed, pleasant & helpful. Our waiter made sure to take the time to explain all of the specials in lots of detail.
We ordered the antipasto to start. My husband & are vegetarians so I could not tell you how the assorted meats tasted (there seemed to be a chicken, pepperoni, a type of bacon & dried chiped charcuterie meat) but we both raved over the two varieties of cheese, dill pickle spears & olives.
We all opted to have salads-beat sald with the creamiest goat cheese you could ever find & a delicious caprese with your basic tomatoes, home-made tasting mozzerella, pesto & a balsamic vinegrette.
For main course the birthday girl had a carbonora complete with the egg on top (had Italian bacon so I couldn't tell you how that tasted) & my husband & I had the Ryall & Sophia Pizzas. The crust is indescribable it's just so perfect. I thought the Ryall pizza (tomatoe sauce, peppers, artichoke hearts, goat cheese) was good but I will never forget the Sophia. It is delicate but COVERED in pickled muchrooms & topped with truffle oil-which if you haven't tried yet, you should.
Lastly, we tried the strangest sounding dessert I've ever heard. A sweet & savory cake (citrus & herb?) with roasted figs, almonds, mascarpone, a drizzle & a 'snow' concoction. OUTSTANDING. It was so good I had to order another one. If the wierd dessert is too adventurous for you they also have a chocolate cakey-thing & a tiramisou. The wines were pricier than what I'm used to but my mom & I both enjoyed a large glass of a recommended white that was subdued & pleasant.
We (unfortunately) wouldn't be able to eat here on a regular basis (the bill for 3 people came to $170.00) but we will be looking forward to our next special occasion & visit.
Good food!. I have been to this place twice and enjoyed it both times. The first time I had the pizza with fig jam which was different-but in a good way. I highly recommend the beet salad with goat cheese....you will love it! The calamari (not breaded) with arugula is also a good choice!
Partially owned by one of the GI guys in Winnipeg. It had great wood-fired thin crust pizzas. Recommend the Sinatra, the Don, or the ryall. Quite a wait though. 90 minutes to get in. Another 2 hours to finish our meal. Was almost a four hour process.
Everything but Ambiance. Had dinner and drinks on the patio this past Saturday night. We came at a presumably bad time in the evening to expect a table(6:30), so we opted for a table on the patio.
Despite taking a few minutes to get things sorted out(the staff did seem to have some trouble getting a table together outside to accommodate our party of seven), the service all night long was attentive and informed. Our server did a fantastic job of making suggestions and seemed to understand how to pace our meal properly.
The food was fantastic, as you would expect. Our party devoured two antipasto plates, mussels in tomato sauce, calamari, bruschetta, and the meatballs, along with plenty of fresh flatbread with balsamico and olive oil. I particularly enjoyed the bruschetta, the tomatoes were firm and fresh, and the fresh herbs made an appetizer that commonly appears on many chain restaurant menus something out of the ordinary. However, the oversight on the server's part to bring side plates and serviettes for this course had us passing the dishes around the the table, which although unconventional was not totally unenjoyable.
The beers kept coming and we were enjoying ourselves. Each of us ordered our own pizza, and our server had no problem tweaking each pie for individual tastes. Popular at the table were The Don, The Sinatra (complete with baked egg yolk!) I had the Padova, which was perfect for a hot summer day, with gorgeous fresh sliced prosciutto and light and tasty combination of buffalo mozzarella and Arugula sprouts. We all enjoyed our meal and everyone raved about our service.
The one thing that was particularly mystifying, however, was the lack of attention paid to the patio. The interior of the restaurant takes aim at a contemporary, minimalist decor that works well with the clientele and style the restaurant is aiming for, but the patio was a conscious mistake. The tables ring a particularly uninteresting patio devoid of plants, music, or umbrellas. The comfier sofa-type seating was jammed together in the center instead of placed in locations throughout the patio, inviting people to stay and get comfortable. While the lack of umbrellas(considering the number of long, smouldering days we have in Winnipeg) was hard to understand, the lack of lighting for the evening guests on the patio was even more astounding, Even simple table candles would have made a big difference in the warmth and 'invitingness' of the atmosphere, but none were forthcoming. A welcome addition would have been umbrella-style propane heaters that many local patios use to keep guests comfortable after dark.
We would likely have spent more time and money that evening, but the chill in the attention paid to the patio had us heading elsewhere for the rest of the evening.
In short, the dining experience was very memorable, I only hope next time the owners put some care into the atmosphere on the patio, as this could be an entire evening of entertainment instead of just dinner.
Pizza Lovers Assemble!. A few weeks ago I had a major pizza craving and my boyfriend suggested we go to Pizzeria Gusto, a nearby Italian restaurant renowned for its thin crust pizza.
Though the decor in the restaurant is nothing special, and fails to provide any visual Italian vibe, the aromas wafting in from the kitchen are fantastic, owing in part to their wood burning oven, which was hand crafted by Italian artisans. They also have authentic Italian music playing in the background which for me brought back fond memories of my trip to Italy a few years prior.
At first the restaurant appeared small and empty but most diners were outside on the spacious patio, however we chose to remain indoors for our meal. The server was very knowledgable and was quick to take and return with our drink orders.
We each ordered a pizza, one a vegetarian equivalent with artichokes and goat cheese and the other an italian version of a meat lovers pizza. Though I am no fan of thin crust pizza, even I will admit that the crust and texture of the dough was delicious, albeit maybe a slight bit undercooked. The toppings were fresh and flavourful, and the cheese was heavenly.
A major problem with pizza in general is that the toppings tend to slide off. This did not happen at Pizzeria Gusto since the cheese was so perfectly stringy. Can you tell I liked the cheese? I will also add that these personal pizzas were massive, and that if you are dining in larger groups, consider that each pizza is probably large enough for 1-2 people. Both of us struggled to finish the last couple of slices, and it was the wonderful flavour which drove us to finish them.
The server was very friendly, asking us how our meals were, and even one of the cooks who had prepared our pizza, (an acquaintance from my academic career) came out to ask us how we were enjoying the food. It was apparent that the employees of the restaurant truly enjoy what they do.
We left Pizzeria Gusto completely satisfied, having thoroughly enjoyed the food, service, sounds and aromas. You will get a great value for your money here.
- Excellent Service
- Excelent Value
- Good Flavour
- Good Decor
The Verdict: Pizzeria Gusto is a must for any fan of thin crust pizza or anyone who has not yet had the opportunity to try pizza cooked in a wood burning oven.
Happy Dining

Awesome pizza, wood fired makes a delicious difference. Good choice of pizzas. Had the 887, highly recommend. Pleasant service, nice atmosphere. A definite yes.
Excellent meal. The service was professional, attentive, but not fussy. The antipato plate was a wonderful value. It was a delicious selection of meat, cheese & olives & enough for two to share. The most wonderful caramelized onions. Extremely flavourful pasta. Would absolutely go back, as also very nice ambience.
Great gift for special friends!. I was given a very generous gift certificate to this restaurant, it justified driving since this is not a downtown restaurant. I enjoyed it so much I also bought a gift certificate for some dear friends who live down the street from this restaurant. Pizzeria Gusto 's décor spoke to me as a wine lover. The food was a little pricey however the quality was notable. I enjoyed the bruschetta however it is still not my favourite in town. The Sylvia Pizza was expensive however it was very satisfying. Personally I don't mind paying more for something if it results in a memorable experience, this place achieved just that . The staff was pleasant and the space was clean and inviting. I will go back for sure.
Excellent Experience. Well, we headed back to Pizzeria Gusto with some friends from out of town, and like the other 2 times we've gone out here, every aspect of our meal was enjoyable.
I can't, at the moment, remember our server's name, which is a shame, because she was delightful. We sat on the patio, and Saturday evening was QUITE warm. Within 5 minutes of us sitting down, she came over and offered us an umbrella for the table, which made the evening much better.
Between the 4 of us, we had 3 pizzas (Medico, The Don, and one with pears and arugula) and their ceasar salad.
All 3 pizzas were great, and I have yet to find a restaurant that has a better crust to their pizza. The ceasar salad has a slight hint of anchovy paste, which to me, is the ONLY way to make a ceasar salad.
I also enjoyed a bottle of coke, because it's in the glass bottles, and there is nothing quite like it.
We had a great time enjoying the summer weather, and I definitely look forward to going back.
Consistently wonderful. The food is rustic (yet stylish) Italian with really good ingredients. Sure, you pay a price for it, but I don't mind paying for quality. I've been to this restaurant many times and I've never had anything that wasn't delicious.
The atmosphere and service are not at all pretentious; everyone I've encountered has been friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic about food and wine. Speaking of wine, they have a lovely assortment of wine; you're sure to find something that you like.
I'll certainly be back for more.
Expensive. The prices are outside of what is reasonable for most of the mains. The appetizers are delicious, with OK prices for what you get, but the pizzas are a little bit crazy. Don't get me wrong, the food is good and they have a great wine selection, but for a 9" pizza you will shell out almost 20 dollars. As mentioned in other reviews there is a bit of pretentiousness about the place--there should be an English menu for us regular folk. It would be nice if there were more than 2 types of beer (i.e. domestic beers). I have been there twice and will likely return but both times my wife and I had modest meals and the price was around 80-90 dollars.
Delicious. One of my favorites. Pizza's are all so good. They have a red wine there called Number 0 which is very good.
Great service, great food. Went to Pizzeria Gusto on a whim - thought we'd try something different. Not only was our waitress friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu, the food was delicious. We had the pizza and it was worth the price! I will go again.
Delicious Food!. We have delayed going here because of various comments on the relative snobbishness of the staff and the overpriced menu and some have said "pretentious" menu.
We were absolutely delighted with the quality of the food - the ingredients were fresh and the menu was not pretentious and truly reflected "some" of the tastes of Italy. We were most impressed with the array of good quality cheeses on the menu, something that is a rarity in Winnipeg.
While I agree that the menu is pricey I will still go there again - the Buffalo Moz. was a particular treat.
Not completely satisfied, but willing to try again.. The pizza I ordered on my first--and only--visit had a couple of types of cured meats for toppings, and it was incredibly salty. I would have been disappointed if the pizza had been inexpensive, but the nearly $20 price made the disappointment worse. I am willing to try this restaurant again, but would definitely try a different pizza. I must say, the crust was very good and there wasn't any "gooey" texture you get from chain restaurants.
Great pizza but pricy, fantastic beet salad and a very busy restaurant. Get there early to get a table in this small and quaint place!
Interesting Ingredients. After first hearing about this restaurant through the chef firing incident my wife and I had wanted to give it a try. We arrived early for supper and were seated promptly. The place looked great inside with a wood fired oven and chefs prepping pizzas in plain view. We had the bruschetta and grilled Caesar salad to start. The bruschetta tasted good and the salad was excellent with a great smoky flavor. I had the pizza specialty for the night which featured pork belly and a balsamic reduction. The pizza tasted excellent with a chewy yet crispy crust. I also tried an imported Italian amber beer which was quite tasty also. Even though I hardly recognized any of the ingredients on the pizzas in the menu the dinner was delicious with great service and we hope to return to try some of the other pizzas and menu items.
Great Creative Pizza's and Excellent Service. My first go around, a buddy brought me for lunch. When we walked up with people lined up before the place opened, I figured that must be a good sign.
Second time I went, there was a 45 minute wait, which turned into an hour and 15. However, as we didn't have any plans, we decided to wait it out. Manager was very kind to us, bringing us champagne and drinks during our wait... that must have set him back at least $50.
Food, as it always has been, was FANTASTIC. Though I've never gone away from the pizza, I've heard great things about the other dishes. Certainly a good place to go if you want your pizza to have a little pizazz and some authentic, fresh toppings.
Everyone I've brought loves the place!
Very comfy ambiance inside. Reserved in advance for dinner and had no wait time prior to arrival. Food was delicious. Seared tuna was amazing!! Also got the Chicken Rigatoni and Pollo Pizza and no complaints there. Both dishes were delicious and our waitress was great as well! Will definitely come back to try other dishes. Just try to get there earlier as parking might be a mission.
This is an awesome destination restaurant! My siblings and I from across Canada met here for a reunion meal and loved it. Great food and wine and dessert! And great and friendly service.
I had one of my best-ever Caesar salads! And the Margherita pizza was very tasty ..... and straight from the wood-burning pizza ovens.
And of course we had a few bottles of red wine from their terrific wine list.
Although the prices are a smidge higher, the delicious meal and ambience are well worth the cost.
This restaurant is wheel-chair accessible and has a great outdoor patio. It is also LGBTQ friendly.
Try it! You will like it!
Went here for dinner with friends! Delicious Italian cuisine! Good portion size, shareable meals.
The restaurant’s ambiance is pleasant. Limited parking spots though.
Came here for a double date and it exceeded all of my expectations! The pizzas were delicious and cooked to perfection, the drinks/cocktails were also delicious and well made. It's quite rare when everyone at the table absolutely loves everything they ordered so I was very impressed! It was a bit fancier then I was expecting and some of the menu items can be a bit tricky to understand for someone like myself who is not used to a more genuine feeling Italian menu, but I managed to find a pizza for me and it was amazing! I will definitely be back for more.
This place has some of the best pizza around, the chefs have perfected the wood fire oven because the crust was dynamite. Also the chicken parm was spot on, when I come back to Winnipeg this will be my go to spot for dinner.
We came for lunch, the restaurant had a designated parking lot.
The restaurant is beautiful.
The best Italian food we had in Winnipeg. Was sooooo good!
Tip: don’t come at rush hour when crowded the place is noisy.
New favorite restaurant- such a great spot with a beautiful patio. The food was excellent and the service was even better. Sabrina was always around to help with anything we needed. Highly recommended.
Went here for a work event, and it was well done. Pizza was great and some very fun drinks to try!
