Review Corrientes Argentine Pizzeria - Winnipeg

First time here yesterday, now easily one of my favorite restaurants! What a great place! This is the best sangria in WPG. Pizza was bomb, empanadas were delicious and priced great. Service was great We can't wait to come back. 5/5

We enjoyed our lunch today. Had been to this restaurant a few times in the past as well - always enjoyed the food there. We ordered 3 different pizzas today - Los Immortales, Guerrin, and the Salmon Ahumado. All were unique in their flavour profiles- and we liked them all. The Tuco sauce is their house pizza sauce - tomated based. The Salmon pizza had a pesto sauce as the base - fantastic flavour of the pesto and the salmon. Drink menu has a lot of choices - we decided on a couple of cappuccinos. They were blended nicely with a lovely coffee bean flavour. It wasn't busy today for lunch, hard to say what it looks like Monday to Friday with its downtown/exchange district location. We would recommend this restaurant for interesting pizza combinations. Nice decor. Street parking is available. A nice size restaurant- enough space to gather with a few friends or family. Thanks for another great meal.

I ordered a box of empanadas and they were legit! When I passed my dad the box he said I should have warned him because the box was so heavy. They were perfectly filled and had a tender and not-greasy crust. The bonus chimichuri sauce was garlicky and fresh. I can’t wait to go back and have pizza. (Photo was taken after carrying the box through two airports!)

Had dinner on a Friday night, there was available seats on the patio so we opted for that, parking is a bit of a hassle but just need to shell out 5 bucks on paid parking. The pizza crust is really good, Corientes pizza is garlicky and cheesy remember to request for chilli sauce and they will give you a spicy tomato based dip that is really really delicious and pairs well with the pizza, we also tried 3 different empanadas the pulled pork, lamb and mexican comes with chimichuri sauce on the side, definitely go for the pulled pork 😋 and to end the meal we had the Flan Casero. We will definitely be back to try their other pizzas and empanada flavours!

First time eating here and found the empanada tasted great! So as the pizza! Wow! Will definitely come back 👍🏼👍🏼

We ordered four empanadas as one main, a 15” Guerrin pizza as the second, and shared. They have so many empanada options, and we tried the corn, mushroom (++), beef (++), and mac and cheese fillings. All good, but the mushroom and beef in particular stood out. The Guerrin pizza featured ham and green olives, the salty toppings offset by the excellent Tuco, an Argentinian take on tomato sauce. We also shared a Chocorrupt for dessert, three rich scoops of Giandula mousses in white, milk and dark. Good food in a cozy atmosphere. They had an acoustic guitarist playing covers with a Spanish twist the night we were there. He was quite good, and not overpowering

Wow! Wow! Wow! It was our first time dining at Corrientes and I have only one regret - why have we not been here before? Honestly, the food, service and patio can only be described with one word - PERFECT! We started with their fresh salad and empanadas. We did a half and half pizza to capture the best of what we thought were the best on the menu - Canadian Flag and the Chivito. Finished off with the Frozen Leaves Autumn Creme Brule. The beers are frozen, the servers are AWESOME (Thanks Cassandra 😊), the pizza is delicious and the patio is perfect for a summer evening date. Would highly recommend to everyone!

Garbage pizza. Very disappointed

My girlfriend and I went to Corrientes the other day and we were blown away with the food (amazing pizza) and the service. We were sitting in the patio section and the bleach they were using on the furniture between guests was a tad too strong and ended up staining my shorts. My girlfriend has some Karen in her and messaged them over Facebook, and Corrientes said they would send over money to post for the shorts (we sent a picture of the shorts too). Turns out they gave us an extra $20 on top as a sorry. The food is already 10/10 good, but the service is just as great and it’s save to say I’ll be going there for a very long time.

Came here for my birthday, something new to try, it was good, atmosphere was great, very friendly staff, pizza was OK the sliced beef on the pizza tasted off and I felt like the pizza was missing flavor, like garlic and herbs. The bruschetta on the other hand was delicious, big and bold and hard to eat, but it was really good. Id come back again and maybe trying a different pizza.

We have been to Corrientes a few times in the past couple of years. Tonight was the latest and as usual, the food and service is excellent. We ordered the smoked salmon pizza. Thin crust, smoked salmon, balsamic and arugula, a perfect pizza. The room is clean, tastefully decorated and comfortable.

Excellent authentic South American Pizza! The staff were professional and the atmosphere was appropriate. The only complaint would be the squishy table placements.

I came here this evening with a few coworkers . We sat outside and it was really quiet and relaxing especially after 5pm on a weeknight .

The service was fast and servers were friendly . I ordered the margarita pizza which was okay the crust was really really thin so with the weight of the cheese it was soggy and it tasted bland . My coworkers had a variety of empanadas which they seemed to enjoy. I would come back only for the outdoor seating but it's not a restaurant I would visit again just for the food.

A great little gem in the exchange. Romantic atmosphere, great pizza and friendly service. Interesting selection of non traditional pizza. Will definitely be back.

I wish I liked this place as much as everyone else seems to. While the service is quick and friendly the food is just okay. Lots of cheese, lots of garlic. Both of which I love but the menu does seem to be lacking something.

Willing to chalk this review at least party up to user error - should have ordered pizza - instead myself and two others had the Cuban sandwhich which, while creative was not very good. In addition, restaurant is beautiful (we sat on patio) but was very surprised to hear the server tell us they were not servicing any more and that the place would soon close (this was with a full patio on a Friday evening).

Stopped in for lunch the other day as a result of their advertised lunch special when I was walking by: 2 empanadas and soup or salad for $11. This may sound a bit steep, especially since you can find empanadas for $2 a piece in some places, but these were huge and tasty and did not disappoint. After I finished my salad, I only ate about half of each empanada (1 beef, 1 ham and cheese) so I got leftovers.

The service was attentive but not cloying. My water glass was never empty and my food came out fairly quickly, but I was also the only one on the patio as I beat the weekday lunch rush.
Cheesy pizza if you're into that. Good empanadas. Service was good. Really nice patio - sunny during the day but in the shade in the evening.

Fantastic empanada and I tend to be pretty critical of them but they really get it right. The empanadas and the pizza are delicious though I am not such a big fan of the sandwiches. Could be just a personal preference but I prefer to have more flavour. The pizzas give opprotunity for many different toppings.

This was a Very disappointing meal. The pizza was very bland and the cheese had an unappealing runny texture. I Will definitely not return.

First time diner and very impressed. Made reservations ahead of time and were seated promptly at an out of the way window seat for two. Perfect. Our server was pleasant and patiently answered our questions despite it being a busy Friday night. My guest and I started with 2 empanadas each before diving in to our pizzas. The star of our table was the Steve B: a peanut butter (yes!!), bacon and chicken pizza. Too crazy sounding to resist and it was fantastic! This night at Corrientes made a fan of us both!

First time at Corrientes - went for a work lunch outing. We per-ordered our food because it was a larger group. Menu is fairly small, seems they specialize in pizza's. I decided to go for one of their Cuban Sandwiches though; I got the one stuffed with chicken and it comes with a side of potato salad. Overall It was a very bland sandwich with an even blander potato salad. I didn't even finish half the sandwich due to the fact it was pretty tasteless. The rest of the group did not seem too excited about their food either. No one raving about it, and we all had leftovers...that is usually not a good sign. Staff were a bit cold. I will not return...Winnipeg has other better pizza/food joints to spend your money at, in my opinion.

Enjoyed this place. It has a classier yet comforting feel to it, it's not like many other places in the city. A family run places and they're all very friendly! Empanadas were delicious and fair in price! Pizzas were all very interesting, toppings you'd never think to add to a pizza but worked so well. I kind of wish they had little facts about Corrientes, Argentina though just to educate me while I wait for my food. My friends and I did some research and learned some things about the city, it was cool.

January 9th, 2017 (second visit):
Came in to try more food! I had already tried multiple pizzas on their menu, so I thought I would go with something different so I got a beef and a lamb empanada, then the Pork Cuban melt. The beef empanada is still my favourite! I wasn't too crazy about the lamb though, I wish It had a little something cause it didn't have that wow factor to me. The pork cuban melt - I wasn't crazy about it. It had flavour and it was big, but it was only okay to me. I would for sure stick to the pizza here and only get the beef or corn empanadas.

My husband I were looking forward to going to your restaurant today for our wedding anniversary, we tried calling several times with no answer.....
Finally I get ahold of someone and they said they're completely booked... explaining our circumstances the woman suggested I talk to the owner. Before I could speak to him I can clearly hear the owner in the background saying "I don't care, I don't care"....

If your customer experience doesn't live up to the same standards as your food, no one will want to experience either....

I have come here for lunch a handful of times and I'm never disappointed. 11$ gets you 2 empanadas and a side salad or soup. The selection is amazing and the chimichurri sauce you get is delicious. Definitely recommend lunch, will try dinner soon!

I had the smoked salmon empanada to start and it was awesome. Pizzas were good. There are pizza options that I think I would have preferred but I was with a group and went with the consensus on what to get. We were there the night before good Friday and it was moderately busy. Service was fast and the highlight was definitely our server. She was fast, attentive, and very knowledgeable. Pretty much the best server I've had in winnipeg in the 3.5 years I've been here. Wish I caught her name so I could give her credit.

Beautiful location and tasty pizza, although perhaps not up to the price and the hype. Last time I went we had some really great pizza and wine, but the service wasn't great and everything seemed a bit overpriced for what it was.

I always have a good experience at Corrientes. Tonight was no exception. It was very vibrant and busy with a live guitarist. It created a lovely atmosphere. I had the pizza with goat cheese, ricotta, Brie, figs and seeds. I don't remember the name but it was delicious. Excellent service once again.

Decent place for lunch in the exchange. I came in a little late for lunch but the lady who I assume is the owner said it was fine. I got the lunch special which was a half salad and two empanadas. The salad was good, although a little heavy on the dressing (tasted like thousand island?). The four cheese empanada was a disappointment but the spinach one was excellent. Even the owner said it was her favorite. Good value for around $10.

The Swizzle Styx had lunch here today and it was OK. Unfortunately none of us ordered the pizza and I wish we had because it looked good. We all had the lunch special sandwich or empanadas with soup or salad. The soup was very good, the salad was OK, and the empanadas were OK...kind of bland but definitely nice and fresh. Service was very good and atmosphere/ambiance very nice. Of course parking in the area is a huge pain so not sure if we will be back, although I'm thinking we should give the pizza a try.
Intrepid Diner
The pizza was good, but the high prices make this place a poor value.

I went for a very late lunch and the place was not busy. There was one other table with five people at it. The decor is very nice. For the most part it is an elegant setting. The place is broken into two rooms. The main dining room has about nine tables with a padded bench running along one wall. The rooms are separated by a wall made of exposed brick. There is a service window in the wall to allow the kitchen to pass the food to the servers. The main dining room features dark wood furniture and posters of people enjoying pizza. The second room is much smaller and has a crowded bookshelf and is adorned with large framed photos of the rock band KISS. I am assuming that the photos show the owner meeting the group. While I am a fan of the group as well, it seems a bit out of place in this setting.

My server was nice, but not overly attentive. This was a bit of a surprise as the place was definitely not busy. The restaurant bills themselves as an Argentine Pizzeria. I asked her what are the characteristics of an Argentine pizza and she didn't have an answer.

They have some sandwiches available for $14 and they also feature South American appetizers such as empanadas for around $4 each. You have the choice of thick or thin crust for the pizza. They have the regular toppings that you see as well as things like spinach. The prices are a drawback. Pizzas come in 12 inch or 15 inch sizes. A 12 inch pizza is in the $20-24 range while the 15 inch is $27-31. I had a pepperoni pizza and it cost $20 for a 12 inch. This, quite frankly, is an expensive pizza. The thin crust that I had was good. It had some crunch to it yet it was soft and chewy on the inside. I couldn't detect the sauce, I have no recollection if there was tomato sauce on my pizza or not. There is a rather thick layer of cheese. The coverage of the toppings was slightly underwhelming. For the price I paid, I would have appreciated more topping. The pepperoni was slightly spicy and had a good flavour. After ordering, it took a little over 15 minutes for my pizza to arrive.

Soft drinks come in glass bottles and are about $3 per bottle.

Overall, I liked the ambiance and the pizza itself..however, it is hard to justify the high price. For that reason, I am uncertain as to whether i would come back.

Most off-putting restaurant experience we've ever had. We ordered drinks and bruschetta to start which was okay but a little lifeless. When our pizzas came, one was extremely underwhelming and the other was not to our taste at all- could barely eat a bite of it. When the server came back to check on us, I was hesitant to say anything but I tried to in the nicest way possible and she was really great about it. She took the pizza away and brought me a menu and asked if I wanted to chose another pizza but at that point I was off put from ordering another $20 pizza so instead we decided on dessert and got the bill. As people who work in the restaurant industry we were completely taken back when we received our bill with the pizza we didn't eat still on it. At any other restaurant if you don't eat something, they take it off (or maybe at the least, given us our dessert for free). When we asked about she basically said it's your fault you didn't like it so you have to pay for it... Bad food and terrible customer service policies. We will definitely not be returning.

Nope, didn't like it. I guess they do what they do well, but I'm just not into it. Also, it was kind of pricey and the service could have been better considering we were the only diners at the time.

Unique Pizza!. I've been to Corrientes 2 times now and have loved it both times. The atmosphere is relaxing and intimate. Service was prompt and warm. Great place for a date! We have tried 4 Pizza's and all of them have been fantastic. Fresh cheese, not overly oily and plenty of toppings.

Excellent Pizza........ This was our third visit there and the pizza was better than ever!! Sooo good. Great service, friendly staff, awesome atmosphere.

Extremely disapointed!. I have been to Corrientes several times in the past but something happened with this weekends service that will make me think twice of ever going back. First we were seated at a filthy table that needed to be wiped down. The waitress could not reach where I was sitting so I had to wipe down 1/4 of the table. Next she spilled our wine. After eating our supper, we were rushed out of the restaurant. Our reservations were at 8 pm on a Saturday night. It is holiday season and we wanted to visit with our friends that we have not seen in months. At 10 pm, they flicked the lights on and off signalling that they were closing and the waitress also came over and wanted payment because they wanted to leave. After asking about the possibility of staying for a bit longer to have another glass of wine with our friends, the waitress and some of the other staff sitting at the bar told us to go up the street as there are more restaurants open. I was shocked!

This is one of the only restaurants in the city with real ambience! Amazing live jazz being played helped really bring the atmosphere to life and complimented the food. This restaurant is not for the faint of heart wallet-wise but definitely delivers high quality food, service and atmosphere for your dollar. I had the corrientes pizza and a pollo empanada. I haven't had such good empanadas since I was in Argentina! I will definitely be returning to Corrientes... Once I save up a little ;)

Great Food. Hd dinner last night at Corrientes. Great food, great atmosphere, great staff. Had the Beef melt with potato salad. If you like a little zip in your food you'll love this. Try them - worth the visit

Excellent. Great pizza! Went with a friend before the symphony. The service was quick and the staff very friendly. I had the 11" smoked salmon and goat cheese pizza with sunflower seeds and fresh baby arugula to top it off.. Nice thin and crispy crust (almost like a cracker) which had a great crunch. My friend had a small salad with meat and an empanada. It looked a bit too small for dinner so I shared my pizza which was quite generous. It must be a popular place because it filled up soon after we arrived. I love the interior space but I am partial to the beautiful architecture in the Exchange District with so much character. These buildings are under-appreciated in Winnipeg but getting more attention in the last few years.

Really good dinner! This was the second time going to this restaurant. First time we weren't too impressed. However, 2nd time around the olmedo salad and pizza was delicious. Can't remember the pizza we got but it was the special and half of another with garlic cloves. We also had the slam empanada that was also delicious.

The service was great! The atmosphere was a nice place for dinner and had a great selection of drinks.

Definitely return sometime soon

Great vibe. I wanted to reward myself after a midterm so I stopped for some pizza. Service was attentive and fast. I liked that cokes are give. In original bottles, but this also means no free refills. I ordered the chivito pizza which was very tasty. The best part of the night was a young folk artist that sang Spanish songs for over two hours. It made the atmosphere perfect.

Pretty good. Went to Corriente's on a date this summer, it was a good experience. We ordered two pizzas to share, one was the "Manitoba" pizza with pickerel cheeks, goat cheese, arugula, and a couple other toppings... I can't remember what we chose for our 2nd pizza, but they were both very satisfying. We were also interested in trying the "chef's selection" of appetizers offered in the menu but were told it was unavailable that day (a Saturday), which was the only minor disappointment. The empanadas looked tasty, so I'll probably return one of these days to give them a try. Overall, it's a small establishment (make a reservation!), with a cool vibe. I liked the assortment of books on the shelves lining the back walls too, thought it was a nice touch.

Quaint Exchange Spot. Love the homey feel near the back of the restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed the pizza selection. My partner loved her empanadas. Will return when theater season begins.

We were staying in a nearby hotel down the street and found Corrientes while out for a walk. We decided to go with the Chivito pizza because it had different toppings than your usual pizza place. The pizza crust was the perfect thickness, thin but still moist. The toppings were great and worked really well together. I know pizza and I can tell you this place does it well. I will definitely be going back to try more!

Good quality ingredients and nice embiance. We had the chefs choice app which was ok, loved the bumblebee salad! We ordered 4 different empanadas to share and a pizza. We were disappointed in the empanadas. The dough was quite chewy, reminded us of overworked pie crust. Pizza was ok. Considering we paid over $70 for two of us with no alcholic beverages plus parking for a meal that was just ok, I can't imagine we will be rushing back. A definite place I would recommend for others to try out at least once.

Enh?. My husband works nearby and both of us have wanted to try the place for some time so after the Sunday matinee of Wicked playing at the concert hall, we, along with the in-laws, made the trip. We were the first ones in the building for the dinner service and were seated promptly. Unfortunately it was at the windiest table in the restaurant even as confirmed by our server who moved us over one. Why put us there to begin with then if no one else is here?

The server came with a blue glass bottle to fill our water glasses which I found a bit odd. She was, however, attentive to everyone's water throughout the meal so I'm not about to complain since I drink a lot of water with a meal I was happy to not have to badger her for it. I will agree with many of you when I say the service existed but was not thrilling.

My husband and I ordered the Corrientes Pizza, my father in law ordered the one with corn and bacon, and my mother in law, a salad with prosciutto and orange slices. The Corrientes pizza was ok. We both found the chicken to be flavourless but we enjoyed the garlic on it even if it was in huge chunks (entire cloves) and was a bit of a mouthful. The crust, like several other reviewers have mentioned, was dry and structurally unsound. All in all, I'd have given our pizza a 6/10. The crust was only ok but in several spots the toppings didn't make it anywhere near the edge and since none of us wanted that dry bread we lost nearly 1/3 of our pizza to it. My father in law's pizza was quite tasty! But his 12" pizza was barely covered by toppings and he lost much of his dinner to it as, again, he wouldn't eat the dry and nasty 'crust'. The salad was huge and refreshing but honestly I cannot imagine what made it cost $11. A bunch of frisee lettuce, an orange, and two slices of prosciutto, do not cost even $3. I would have been terribly disappointed had it been my meal.

The pizzas were warm, not hot, but the cheese had only just melted with no browning on it whatsoever. Hunger does make the best seasoning but even hungry I was not overjoyed with my visit here. I think it could be good but I'm just not happy with my experience here so far. Not sure if I'll return as it's a bit pricey for me to try them again which is too bad because several things looked good and the only dessert any of us wanted to try was out of commission due to lack of ingredients.
AlexM
I really wanted to like it, but..... I couldn't get past the fact that I would be spending $40 on four scanty triangular bites of bruschetta and a thin crust pizza so insubstantial it had the mouthfeel of a cracker.

A bona fide pizza lover - I've made thousands, and put a great deal of thought into what makes a pizza memorable - I went to Corrientes with a great deal of optimism, helped not least by Marion Warhaft's (of the Winnipeg Free Press) four-star review that I remembered reading over a year ago.

I concur with many fellow urbanspoon reviewers that the service did nothing to get me excited about the menu. What is Argentinian pizza? What, besides having corn as a topping, sets Corrientes apart from other Winnipeg pizzerias? Does Corrientes use a wood-burning oven? If I were a restaurant owner I would want staff who share my passion and make the food I offer irresistably appealing to my guests. During my visit, as soon as I told my server that I would just be having water to drink she checked out.

Regarding the food, which coincidentally was brought to the table by another server, I was disappointed. I can't put it any better than Marion Warhaft did, and as I share her sentiment I'll quote her review: "what really clinched my disappointment was the phyllo-like pastry base that was brittle, tasteless and totally dry."
DP
Great service, cold beer on tap and amazing pizza and apps. That's the way it should be.

Never Again. Our first trip involved a meal. Overpriced food and a somewhat cool (read: unfriendly) atmosphere. On this visit we simply wanted to have drinks between shows we were attending. Patio was full so we headed inside. No air conditioning, and we were reluctantly sat at a very dirty table, as we were told the others were all reserved. After 10 minutes no one had come to our table and we were so uncomfortable from the heat that we left..
Veg4Life
Like it. I have been here on three separate occasions and I quite enjoy the food. Twice I indulged in the empanadas and once, the pizza. I prefer the empanadas. The pizza is expensive and nothing exceptional: thin crust, nice sauce. I shared the one with arugula and there was far too much of it uncooked on top.(that may be just my preference). I enjoy people watching on the streamlined patio and the service was good. Not much either good or bad to comment on.
Matt
Decent pie, terrible cocktails. Bottom line: Avoid their in-house cocktail creations and enjoy the tasty food.

Had a variety of empanadas and I'd say I like them better than the Chilean Corner or Simon's. The dough was quite good. I liked that they allow you to do half-and-half to try different topping combinations. The pizza was good, but nothing about either type we tried really jumped out as being anything really unique. Our server seemed like a bit of an odd duck, but nothing close to a deal breaker. The atmosphere was great, a good date spot for dinner and drinks.

Not impressed. Went to Corrientes for my anniversary dinner with my wife. We ordered a large pizza, half and half. First, they bring us someone else's order. Then we get ours, and only half is what we actually asked for. To be fair, they did bring us a small pizza of the one they messed up so that we could at least try what we had ordered, but regardless it was not a good experience. We likely will not be going back to Corrientes any time soon.

Mixed Reviews. Went with a party of 5 on Sat night. Ordered two pizzas, chicken empanadas, the salad with balsamic vinegar and a cheese and meat board. We all agreed on the following:
Corrientes pizza - bland. No one liked it and ended up chucking the leftovers.
Canadiense pizza - Excellent. We all enjoyed this one. No leftovers at all!
Salad - Excellent. Nothing left of this one either.
Empanadas - Not great, but one of the group complained to the waitress about the lack of chicken in them, and she offered to either bring us two more, or remove them from the bill.
Cheese and meat board - a little skimpy on the food.

Service - Excellent, and I wish I would have asked the girl's name as she was very cheerful, knowledgeable about all the menu options, brought our dishes quickly and again, offered to take the empanadas off the bill due to the complaint. Probably the best customer service I have seen in ages!

All in all, not likely to return, except if I really crave that one pizza again.
Localfoodlover
Terrible service. My boyfriend and I went there one evening and after being seated for 20 minutes on the patio by boyfriend went inside and asked the bartender (who he knew) to send a server over to us. The server had no knowledge on wine and overall the food wasn't very good. Very pricey too.

1/2 & 1/2. This place has an excellent atmosphere. It wasn't too noisy either. The servers were friendly and weren't pushy to get us out of there once we had finished our meal.

The Cuban beef sandwich was amazing, but it came with a bland potato salad. The Corrientes pizza was also flavorless.

My friend says their Manitoban pizza is good, so I'll try that if I return.
Chris
Will go back, but won't rush to go.. Wife and I went here early September and while the atmosphere was nice and the food was good I was a little disappointed with my pizza and the selection of empanada's.

For my pizza there was 1 piece of pepperoni on each slice, and one slice didn't even have any. I'm a pizza lover so I was a little crushed when I got it. Still tasted good though as the sauce and cheese are nice.

As for the empanada's they had two types available as no other ones were ready. On a Friday night at 5 pm you would think they would be ready to go. Now having said that we did have the ham and cheese one and it was great.

Awesome. A couple of my co-workers and myself went for lunch early at 11 am on sept 11 2013.The melt was tasty and flavourful. The atmosphere was great and our waitress provided great service.

Service and atmosphere were beautiful but the food just didn't live up to my expectations. Empanadas were cold and flavorless, could have been made better if served with a dip or sauce of some kind. Pizza was extremely greasy. I might give this place a second try though, seems like it might be worth it.

Meh.. I read many reviews of Corrientes before going to the restaurant. I knew I didn't want to get any of their pizzas, so I tried the pork Cuban melt sandwich. It was flavorful, but my main complaint was that the bread was so thick, especially in comparison to the thin layer of filling. The sandwich altogether is too big to reasonably stuff in your mouth, so it made it hard to eat gracefully. The potato salad that came with the melt was good and the $12 price tag was reasonable compared to some menu items. I recently tried empanadas at Simon's Cuisine, so I thought I could get some from Corrientes and compare. The empanadas are greasier and are much more expensive at Corrientes, but they were more flavorful. I had the panceta and the salmon empanadas. I'd recommend the panceta, but the salmon flavor was overly powerful that I couldn't taste any of the other fillings in the empanada. The service on the patio wasn't bad, just adequate.
Dharma
Delicious!. We experienced very friendly service, albeit a bit slow given that we were in a bit of a rush. We shared the chicken pizza, which was marvelous, and sampled 2 of the empanadas, both wonderful. They were out of our first 2 choices for the empanadas but the other ones we tried were just fine! We shared a salad, which was fresh & nice, though a bit unimaginative for the price. I thought their pizza crust was one of the most perfect I've ever tried---flavourful with just the perfect crisp-chewy ratio. I'll be back most definitely!
Jtpaul
Outdoor patio, service poor.. About the only positive thing I have to say is that it has a patio. For a $29 pizza I expected more. We received a pizza with all the toppings toward the middle and the service was less than to be desired. From the greeting from the waitresses it appeared we were more of an imposition than a paying customer. EACH person must ask for a plastic cup of water, otherwise only one will be brought out. It would take a bit for me to go back there. Overall, not recommended.

Potential, but not there yet. It was a perfect evening last night for sitting on the Corrientes patio.

My wife has been wanting to try them out for a while now, so off we went.

We showed up, and wanting to sit outside, stood beside the "Hostess will Seat you" sign.......for a good 5 minutes before we gave up and went inside.

There wasn't a single customer inside, expected, because it was so nice out. We were quickly seated.

Service was.....I'll say "ok".....not bad enough to complain about, but not good enough to compliment. The girls working were just there.....not friendly, but not rude. Not happy to see us, not terribly inspired to make a good impression. Putting in time, for the most part.

When our drinks were brought out, my beer glass was dirty. Well, not really 'dirty', but 'used'.....it still had the remains of the previous guy's beer in it. It was replaced with a "ewww....that's gross" from the server.

Given that there was not a single patron inside, the servers spend almost ALL of their time inside, away from the customers. I was never offered another drink, or a water refill.

Anyway, we ordered the flatbread app, which was good, with a nice red pepper and feta spread, as well as a zucchini-and-tomato-based relish.

Our pizzas, hers a margarita on thin crust, mine a ham and tomato on thick, were, again, ok. There's no difference between the thick and thin crusts, so why bother having a choice? Both pizza's were technically cooked, but were still too soft to pick up..... not quite "raw", but not quite 'right'. The cheese was melted, but not a hint of browning on top. A few more minutes in the oven would have made a big difference. The flavor was ok, but everything needs some sort of seasoning in the worst way.

All in all, very underwhelming. I'd love to taste a properly-cooked and seasoned pizza at Corrientes, because I think the potential is there, but they've got more than a few issues to deal with first.

Decent Food, Sub-par Service. We visited the restaurant this evening, and despite fairly good pizza, the occasion was blighted by poor and inattentive service. We first arrived at our patio table to find no drink menu or server in sight. After several perfunctory passes, but to no avail, we were eventually offered a drink menu. Our server's attitude was as if our presence was an imposition upon her. The empanadas we ordered were not in stock, and the pizza, which did come in good time, became greasy and limp after cooling slightly. The greatest transgression by the serving staff was when a visibly intoxicated panhandler began to harass the other patrons for pieces of their pizza and the two servers literally just stood there and watched and he went from table to table. He was finally approached when he began a second 'lap' of the tables, and even then he only left when another patron demanded his departure. This is a restaurant with great potential (good location, great menu, almost great food) that is being crippled by its serving staff.

Nice atmosphere, good service, great food! Pizzas are loaded with toppings! It's a definite place to check out!

Super Empañadas!. Gus left the Winnipeg food Guide on Tina’s pillow as he headed out for work and she settled on this spot for a Friday night dinner date. We made our reservations online with ease and found free street parking nearby without any trouble. The place had a nice contemporary atmosphere and the service was adequate. We quickly browsed the wine selection and found a gem of a Malbec that Gus remembered enjoying in Mendoza, Argentina last year. We ordered a few empañadas to start (pancetta, beef and chicken) and we were glad we did because they were the highlight of the meal! We ordered the Manitoban pizza (pesto, bacon, pickerel cheeks, arugula, sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese, orange zests). It was best described as “OK”. Tina wished that the whole pizza had the same moisture and flavor as the central 1/3 of it. For dessert we polished off a chocolate crème brulée and an apple empañada.
On the stroll home, our general consensus was that this would be a great place to meet up for drinks and appetizers (empañadas) before grabbing a main course elsewhere.

See you next weekend,
Gus N' Tina

Fantastic! My favorite is the Crudo thin crust pizza. Great wine selection and drink menu. Please keep in mind that this place is almost always busy... if you're in a rush, maybe go elsewhere. Otherwise relax, have a few drinks and enjoy some wonderful food.

Excellent!! My boyfriend and I went for dinner at Corrientes last night before heading to a fringe show. Our pizza was delish and our server was prompt and friendly! Also, the new patio was very cozy. We will definitely be back!!

My husband and I were excited when we heard Corrientes had a patio! We were very disappointed in the service. Took too long, couldn't find the right people with the right order, didn't bring out orders is a timely fashion and on and on. My husband went once before inside the restaurant and said it was great! After all the waiting we had to do I was really looking forward to our pizza the "corrientes". It was not very good at all. I found out after we could have ordered half the pizza in a different kind which would have been nice! Good to know! Unfortunately we won't be back, there are many more restaurants in the city that do much better.

I was born in Argentina, lived there for half my life, and go there often and this is is not good pizza! Argentine pizza has tons of flavor in the cheese and a thick dough crust. The fugazzeta pizza was just awful and it was more a quiche than a pizza. The caramelized onions in the corrientes pizza was just caramilized mush. Also they were out of most empanadas when we went (does this mean they're frozen?) and the ones we got had really tasteless dough. I hope no one walks away from this place thinking that this is argentine pizza because it's not! Awful representation of my culture.

Then turn us away. A couple friends and I decided to dine here before seeing a show at the Fringe festival. We did not have a reservation as we were planning on dining at Boon Burger next door, but Boon was closed.

So I said I had heard about this place and wanted to try it. We walked in and asked if there was availability for us. The host (server) told us she could get us in. She came back to the computer and grabbed menus and proceeded to walk to the table. Were we supposed to follow her, or was she setting that up for a reservation? Then she came back and told us to go sit at that table.

The menu is very nice, there is a wide selection of pizzas, a few salads, empanadas, and desserts, many sounded very tasty. Our server took our beverage order and brought our drinks, and then asked if we were ready to order. My friend asked if there were any specials, and we were told no, that is was just the menu. BUT... there is an appetizer that is a sample of little bites and it is chefs selection, so that should probably be verbalized to each table, as being a guest I cannot read the Chef's mind and what his selection for the evening will be. We had to ask what the evenings selection included.

My friend then took a phone call and stepped away. The server returned and asked if we were ready to order. As we were mid sentence stating that our dining companion was on the phone she interrupted us and said she'd come back.

We placed our order deciding to share to pizzas, one 'The Corrientes' and the other a veggie. After an hour our food was finally brought to the table. (Now the restaurant was very busy, but an hour for pizza????)

We finally received our pizzas and they looked appetizing enough, but looks were deceiving. The Corrientes pizza had chicken on it and the chicken was bone dry and tough as jerky. The dough was crispy but was nothing amazing, and while pizza dough is the vessel for carrying toppings, I would have expected a nice pizza dough. The veggie pizza was alright, it was the better of the two, but also required salt to bring the flavors alive.

We decided to order dessert at the time our meals arrived, fearing for a repeat of entree wait time. Our desserts arrived promptly as we finished our pizza, but the chocolate saffron creme brulee and banana and dulce de leche empanada left much to be desired.

Our server then asked if we wanted the bills, so I guess we didn't want anything else, (not that we did) and we paid.

Overall, I guess I should apologize for being such an inconvenience to the serving staff. We asked our server if it was recommended to make reservations as we seemed to be such a hassle to her, and she told us no, but if they were not able to take a walk up party of 3, then turn us away. I kind of wish we had been turned away.

Amazing Winnipeg Spot!. I've been here twice. The first time was during a busy lunch, and the food was great!! The pizza flavours are definitely unique and we also got the chef's choice appetizer - which was an experience in itself! Very tasty.

The second time I sat on the patio and had flatbread with dips (SO good! I crave it to this day) and an empanada!! I had the chicken empanada and it was delicious.

Looking forward to going back to the patio again this summer.

Love their pizza but never going back... Each time I go I have a problem with the service... Not even the owner knows about customer service....
Steven
Our margarita pizza came with a soggy crust, no sauce, an abundance of greasy cheese, and not so fresh basil. The only saving grace were the kind service staff more than willing to make us a second pizza. Sadly it was just as bad.

Every time I go it is consistent. Cynthia, Gonzalo and Emily are the best team in the industry. Chef Black makes it easy for them.

Delicious food and great service. The spinach empanadas are so great as well as the pizza.
Wine And Dine Me
Disappointing. Made reservations for a Friday night with ease through the online reservation system. Upon arrival the restaurant has great ambiance. Very warm and cozy.

Our server was not overly familiar with the wine list, but she sent someone else over who seemed slightly more knowledgeable. The wine she recommended was good but pricey. We then ordered the Picada as an appetizer (6 small appetizers) and enjoyed it very much with the exception of the pickerel seviche. It was rather bland.

When I tried to order a gluten-free thin crust pizza I was told they were out of dough. I read that this also happened to another reviewer awhile back so perhaps this is an ongoing issue. Not sure.

Our server went to the kitchen, came back and said that if I could wait 30 minutes they could make me a pizza using the chickpea flour dough (which I assume is different than the one you get when you order the gluten free thin crust). I said sure as I didn't have much of a choice. I didn't wait too long for the pizza which was great considering they made the dough fresh but the pizza itself was not good. The crust was thick and very doughy, which I could've lived with... but it was SWIMMING in oil. It was almost inedible.

My guest had a regular (non gluten free) pizza and his was quite good. The service was very good as well. So if gluten is not an issue for you give it a try. But for my gluten-free friends... be aware that they may not have the GF options available which could be a big problem for some. And I would not recommend that chickpea flour crust to anyone.

Comedy of Errors. This place is the definition of EPIC FAILURE. Now that being said I want to state that I had an amazing time with good friends. The food that is actually available to order from the menu and that may or may not arrive at your table timely or in an order you have become accustomed, is really quite good. The evening would have been a lot less fun and entertaining had even one aspect of standard restaurant expectations been met. If your prepared to roll with the punches with terrible and confused service this is the place for you.

Here's our story. We arrived for our reservation of 8 people at 5:30 and were the first ones in the place. It takes twenty minutes before we finally get our drinks, well not all of us, they for got the wine so I had to go to the bar and request it myself. No biggie, I've got two working legs and I'm sure our server had other things to attend to. I was served the warmestt beer I've ever tasted. Clearly it was right out of the box on the floor beside the bar. 3 out of the 8 people who were dining can not eat wheat, but the restaurant has 2 different types of glutten free pizzas on their menu, unfortunately glutten free pizza was on back order. Glutten intolerance is problematic when you are eating at a pizzaria who runs out of Glutten free menu items. So Salada and fish it is for the three unfortunate Glutten free party members. That's a big problem. Having our water glasses refilled with something that resembled pepper water was aslo another step in the wrong direction. Apparently it was coffee grounds from the dishwasher in the bottles of water they were using.
Next our meals arrived, well again not all of them. Apparently the fish takes a long time to cook and was delayed by about 5 minutes. Which is better than the never arriving meal for another of our party. We asked about his meal and again apologies and a rush to make a meal for the forgotten man! After getting all our meals and finishing them we figured the server had just forgotten our Appatizers, but we were told that they were still coming. I was a bit confused when the server told us she had thought we wanted the apps and the meal at the same time. Apps are usually before the meal. I guess sometimes with the meal, but never as you are finishing your meal. So we wrap up and ask for our bills. Just like Lionel Richie sings it... Once, twice, Three times... that's how many times is took to get the bills correct for the four couples even though we numbered every thing for them stating who was payinfg for what.

Anyways, if you plan on coming to this place the food is good... at least what they have availalbe. Just be prepared to laugh your self off your chair at how inept the service is. Good thing is you don't need to tip much if you are one of those people who tip large if service is good and not so much if its bad. I left a 5% tip and still feel I over tipped.

Couldn't Tell You. April 12, 2013

I couldn't comment on my experience at Corrientes, because I never had the opportunity to try it.

I phoned earlier today to confirm my reservation. Upon arrival my date and I were not approached by a hostess/server until after 7-8 minutes had passed - despite several members of the staff walking by and readily avoiding eye contact.

When we were greeted, we informed the hostess of our reservation. After looking it up on their booking system, we were told they just had to call someone else who had a reservation to confirm that they were a no-show. No apology or explanation was offered.

Frustrated and hungry we enjoyed a delicious meal with excellent service at Santa Lucias...

May 23, 2013

**Update**
A few short days after writing the review above I was contacted by the Manager of Corrientes apologizing for the apparent "miscommunication" with an offer to send me a gift card so I could try the restaurant afterall.

My date and I made reservations for dinner this evening. Although it took our waiter a few minutes to find our reservation, we were seated quickly and experienced prompt service throughout the meal.

We tried 2 empanadas: the jamon y queso and the panceta. I would definitely recommend the panceta to those who like their salty/sweets.

We also tried 2 pizzas: the chivito canadiense and a second one with bacon and cherry tomatoes on it. Both were good, but I did not care for the hard boiled eggs on the chivito canadiense pizza.

All in all it was a unique food experience, but not my favorite. 7 out of 10.

Do NOT go to Corrientes for Chocolatefest.
The Chili Chocolate Torte, barely an inch tall was a tiny wedge served with a small scoop of melting chocolate ice cream.
The Chocolate Sorbet with Creme de Menthe was two small scoops of lemon ice crystals - not smooth, not chocolate and definitely no creme de menthe.

Good Eats. Went to Corrientes before the theatre. Was very happy with my meal. Had the Margarita pizza which was delicous. Our group had various types of pizza and they all looked great. I had a Latte which was equally fabulous.

My only complaint is that my Caesar was not very good.

Good experience and will go back.

Overpriced & Underfed!. $47.00 later with tip. Left hungry. Pizza is flat bread with olive oil on it. Ordered Manitoban and counted 6 small pieces of Pickeral. Doubt it was the cheeks, 3 minuscule pieces of bacon and a few pieces of cheese. Appetizer at best; not main dish as claimed. Left hungry and will not be returning and do NOT recommend! Expensive waste of money. Pints are not real pints of beer but mugs and confirmed with waitress these were Pints. Went to Dairywip on Marion on way home and got more than $ worth!!

Alright food, but slow and very expensive. The food is not bad at Corrientes - I've tried several of their pizzas and enchiladas, and even the dessert enchilada. Everything was alright.

But, if you're in a hurry, then this is not the place for you. I made the mistake of going for lunch during the week (twice). The first time was close to when they first opened, so I thought maybe it was just growing pains. But I went again recently, and had the same experience. I got there shortly before noon to beat the lunch rush, the first time the restaurant was busy but not packed, the second time there were only 2 or 3 other tables with customers. Our order was taken right away, however the food didn't arrive until 45 to 50 minutes later. So by that time, we had to pack up most of our lunch to take back to work, and we didn't really get to eat.

To add to that, during the second visit, the waitress forgot to put in part of our order. So overall it just seems like the service is disorganized and very, very slow. And honestly, considering the price and service, there are better places in the city to go for pizza and enchiladas.

An Argentinian Experience. We visited this quaint pizzeria on February 8th and had a great experience. Reservations are simple on their website. This service is provided through urbanspoon, which also sends a reminder email.

When we arrived, the soft-spoken waiter took us to a small 2 person table that wobbled. With so many other tables available, the waitress wasted no time in finding us a sturdy table.

We were keen to try some of their wide selection of wines. While only a few are available by the glass, the prices by the bottle are quite reasonable and they will cork them for you to take home. The waitress was not well acquainted with the wines offered but was able to answer our questions after checking with someone else.

The Ciao! Dine About Winnipeg event (http://accesswinnipeg.com/2013/01/ciao-dine-about-winnipeg-2013-returns-february-2-12/) was on so we took advantage of the offer. For $28, we could choose from 2 appetizers (empanadas with either spicy beef or ham & cheese), 2 pizzas (Chivito or Crudo), and it also included a dessert of chocolate soufflé with ice cream and chocolate ganache. We decided to try one of each.

The spicy beef empanada was full of flavour and delicious. The ham empanada was tasty as well, but lighter.

Of the pizzas, I preferred the Crudo. It was topped with prosciutto, sundried tomatoes, and Buffalo mozzarella. The sundried tomatoes were rich and juicy and blended wonderfully with the cheese. I would definitely order this again.

The Chivito was topped with shaved angus rib eye, bacon, ham, hard boiled eggs, onion, banana peppers, provolone and mozzarella.

This small restaurant, which opened in July 2012, is owned by Noel Bernier. He also owns Hermanos, just down the street, and is opening a Brazilian BBQ restaurant called Carnaval at the corner of Bannatyne & Waterfront this month. Rumour has it he will be taking over the revolving restaurant as well! Based on my experiences at Hermanos & Corrientes, I’m definitely looking forward to trying them!

Funky pizza without the drive. So glad that I now don't have to drive across the city for funky pizza. It a good place with great staff. Ask our server to surprise us with a stuff pizza and it was great, can't remember the name but it had onions on top! Glad to see that this area is start to attract more funky restaurants.

Great Space, Good Food. The space is beautiful, amazingly light for being in a brick heritage building. The restaurant is inviting, and there's a great lounge-y area at the back, complete with a bookshelf full of interesting-looking books.

We went for lunch, and shared a "Manitoba" pizza...a crisp, thin-crusted pizza with pesto, pickerel cheeks, bacon, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese. The cracker-like crust was so thin and crispy (just how I like it); it seemed a little under-seasoned and could have used a touch of salt, but the toppings worked nicely together. A 15" pizza was $26, and was just the right size to share with a friend, because it was so thin and light.

They had a nice lunch-time drink special of a six-ounce glass of Cabernet for $4, and my friend enjoyed his chocolate and gelato dessert. When split, my bill was $29...a bit much for lunch all the time, but fine for catching up with a friend during the holidays.

Service was friendly and quick without being suffocating, and our food arrived quickly after ordering.

---19-August-2016---
I have now sampled almost every empanada and rating is going to a 4.5 as the quality is so good and never waivers. The prices are reasonable and the chimichurri is the best I've ever had. This is now also on my favourite collection.

---2-February-2016---
I just ordered a beef and a salmon empanadas for take out at lunch today, and I have to say that I enjoyed it much more than the pizza on my previous visit. The flavourings were great, but it wasn't piping hot... I ordered via skip-the-dishes, not knowing for 1 dollar more I could have had the special with soup or salad. I will try a Cuban next time, but I am increasing my previous 2.5 rating to 3.

---21-August-2014---
A let-down. Went here expecting great, authentic pizza.

As I love thin crust, crispy and smokey.... I was really disappointed. There was soooo much cheese on our marg. pizza, that the crust was floppy and soggy.

The appetizer was good though... but not enough to bring me back.

Best Service and Staff in the City.. I have been to Corrientes a couple times since it opened. I really like the place. I think the staff here are so friendly and helpful You can tell they are all straight from Argentina, or of Latin background. I am studying Spanish and my girlfriend speaks it and they even talked some Spanish with us. They are really helpful with there menu, and very helpful with their wine selection. The restaurant is very gorgeous inside, great location, and a very nice place for dinner. The empanadas are very nice, as are the pizzas. The charcuterie board we had was not the best however. The items on it just weren't worth the price you pay, and look like basic deli meats and cheese cubes you would see at a social. Despite this minor setback, I really enjoy Corrientes. The staff and ambience will keep me coming back.

Delicious Appie-Standard Pizza. My bf and I tried Corrientes on a Saturday night around 9pm with no reservation, but despite the restaurant being full they were able to squeeze us in right away. The interior is nice, albeit on the dark side, especially at the bar where we were temporarily seated while our table was being cleaned off. For starters I wanted to try the Picada (6 small chef's choice appies) ($14) because Ms Warhaft from the WFP said it was the best thing--and she was right! That night we received: smoked chicken with orange, eggplant roll stuffed with feta, mozza rolls with balsamic, broccoli covered in a white sauce, pickerel ceviche, and beef carpaccio with some sort of topping. Our favorites were the melt-in-your-mouth carpaccio slices and the fresh, lively ceviche. The orange complimented the smokey chicken fabulously and the bite size pieces of mozza and eggplant were good as well. I did not care for the broccoli, the sauce tasted almost Aisan-like and overall just wasn't for me. I would definitely order the Picada again, it was my favorite part of the meal. We also received a large basket of toasted bread, which was OK. I would have preferred it come with some butter or olive oil for dipping because it was pretty thick, crunchy, and plain. Next we sampled the onion and cheese empanada ($3.75) which also was delicious, packed full of flavor, and had the perfect pastry to filling ratio. Lastly, we settled on the Humita 12" pizza ($16) which is thin crust and topped with cream sauce, corn, cheese, and bacon. I have never had corn on a pizza, but it was tasty. The bacon was a little light and the pizza wasn't overly cheesy. While the pizza tasted good (especially the cream sauce base) it wasn't anything I would consider special or unique--it wouldn't have me coming back like the empanadas or picada plate would. For 2 people with all that we ordered we still ended up with 4 leftover slices of pizza, so I would consider the food a good value. I would have loved to try the 3 different dessert empanadas but I was too full. They do seem to offer however an extensive coffee menu, so it makes a nice place to come for dessert and coffee alone. Service was good throughout the evening. I definitely recommend coming here to try the empanadas and appetizers. Don't come specifically for the pizza or you'll be unimpressed.

Extremely disappointing!. My family of 6 made reservations at Corrientes to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday--a very special day. while we were looking forward to trying this exciting, hip new eatery, we were extremely disappointed by both the food and our experience at the restaurant, which is upsetting given the nature of our celebration.

saturdays are understandably a busy time at most restaurants, however, even with a reservation, it took nearly twenty minutes after we were seated (at a table in the middle of the very loud restaurant--not at all intimate or what one would expect from a reserved table) for our sever to come and take our drink order.

after almost forty-five minutes of watching our server frantically move about the restaurant serving more tables than she should have been assigned, we were able to place our meal orders. we shared appetizers and each ordered an individual-sized pizza. the bread was much too salty. while the chef's appetizer platter was tasty, it was not enough for 6 people, which our server should have warned us. it was also much too expensive for what we received. our pizzas were good, for the most part, though they were nothing special in comparison to some of winnipeg's other artisanal pizza restaurants. as well, the restaurant professes to have vegan and gluten-free options, yet they were out of the chickpea crust, and seemed to have no vegan options on their menu. because of a mistake noticed by our server, one of us did not receive our pizza with the rest of the family's orders. by the time it came (still incorrect...missing half of the toppings!), everyone else had finished.

the most embarrassing part of the evening came when our server asked us if we wanted coffee and dessert, which we did (we were dying to try the sweet empanadas), yet "warned" us that we had a limited amount of time, as her next reservation had arrived. after we ordered our dessert, we were warned again that we would have to soon leave, as they needed our table for another group.

this, in my opinion, is unacceptable treatment of one's restaurant patrons. we, obviously, have no desire to cause stress on a busy saturday evening, but we also, given that we made reservations, have a right to enjoy our meal to its full potential. as we were served so late after being seated, i do not see it as our fault that we were there for two hours, and that our reservation thus bled into the next.

we were still charged for the pizza that was incorrect, and came after everyone else had finished their meal. we were never asked if we wanted another bottle of wine. we were essentially asked to leave, before we had finished our meal.

i do not recommend this restaurant.

Cozy and Friendly. For an appetizer we shared the picada which is a plate of 6 small selections of appetizers. It was a great way to try some new flavours that I wasn't used to, and it was served with a plate of warm bread. There were sauces and meats that were really flavourful, and it would be easily shared among three people. It was presented very well.

I also ate the salmon empanada, which was also a different sort of flavour combo. Delicious.

We shared a few pizzas, and all were bursting with flavour. You have to be ready to take a chance, and expand the palate!

The atmosphere was really cozy, and the staff were excellent. It was a great place to share some delightful food and wine with good friends.

Awesome place!!!! Excellent food, finally real food and different flavors, the service was excellent and the ambience amazing :) I had a very good time :) I highly recommend it you will never regret
Sir Omnyvore
New place....some growing pains.. I have been here a few times and while the pizzas are a must, the younger servers are a bit rough around the edges. The pizzas are not the american grease mess you may be thinking. These are seemingly healthy pies that are subtle on ingredients but packed with flavours. While it is a bit pricey, this east exchange eatery is quaint and pleasant. Some strange interior design choices such as wine shelves right by the door (loaded with wines!?), make one think this is a work in progress. Romantic and warm. I have faith that this establishment can trim off the frayed edges to become a truly great place. Ummm....and the Argentinian beer is so good.

Dinner for 3: appetizer sampler, carrot provolone soup, Los immortales 12" hand tossed crust, margherita thin crust, Douro wine!

Fantastic service, great atmosphere, great food and wine, very fresh!

We had dinner here this evening and it was fantastic! There were 4 in our party; each couple shared a salad and a 12 inch pizza and it was perfect. Amazing salad, wonderful Corrientes pizza and lovely Argentinian red wine. The service was great too. And the decor is very very lovely. Will definitely return!!

Not worth it. Gluten free pizza is thick thick and very dense. our pizza seemed barely cooked and was barely warm. Im not sure how if thats how their GF pizza is supposed to be served. Found the crust barely edible and defintiely not GF even though they guaranteed that over the phone.

Authetic? I don't know - but Tasty!. Went on a Tuesday night at six thirty - only one other table when we arrived, but by the time we left there were perhaps five or six occupied tables in addition to our own. While there seemed to be small tables on the sidewalk outside, these were not offered to us. Argentinian? music was played over speakers at a decent level.
Our server seemed a bit confused by our order at first, but did trouble to confirm if she had it correct before taking it to the kitchen.
Decor was nothing special - although the small library area towards the back is an interesting idea which could use a bit of explanation - perhaps a small sign indicating if the books are to be read at the restaurant, or if they are okay to take with you (and if it's okay for you to leave a book behind?) One note that struck off key were the paper napkins - as a relatively expensive restaurant, I had expected cloth napkins and perhaps even tablecloths.
Had the Mixta salad - which could have perhaps used a few more tomato pieces, but was otherwise satisfactory - my dinning partner enjoyed the white beans especially. Then came two of the empanadas - we ordered carne and pollo. Our experience with empanadas is limited, but we were pleased with the pastry and fillings for these two choices. Our pizza choice was the "Crudo" with thin crust - and while it was very pleasing to the taste buds, we found that after awhile the cheese became a bit on the over-powering side. The crust was quite good. We had ordered the 15 inch pizza, and with the salad and an empanada each, this was more then enough for two - the take home pizza served us for lunch the next day as well.
To conclude - the food is good, and the portions are generous - although a single empanada would probably not suffice for diner, the lunch special advertised within the restaurant - with a salad or soup paired with any empanada, for just under $10 sounds enticing, perhaps worthy of a repeat visit.
Rafael
Excellent. I luv the restaurant, Pizza is crusty thin, luv that is not overloaded with toppings, so you can really taste the flavors. Bruschetta was just perfect balanced, between tomatoes, olive oil and basil. For dessert we had an empanada of dulce de leche and Banana, which was sweet but enough to enjoy it. coffee is strong and tasty.

Breakfast????. Great patio and great coffee. Nothing great about the food. Deep fried pizza dough in place of toast. Deep fried potatoe cubes that were tasteless. And the western omlette consisted of egg and onion. What's western about that? Oh, and the service, what service? If the waitress had cared to ask us how our food was I wouldn't be writing this.

Meh. I went back recently to try this place a second time. It was a beautiful day so we opted to sit outside, where there are a few tables set on the sidewalk. If you end up sitting here, you should go inside to order and pay first then the server will bring your food out (at least that's what we were told when we assumed that it was table service just like the inside of the restaurant). Also, if you want some vino, note that they don't have a liquor license for the tables outside so if you want a drink, sit inside the restaurant.

Anyhow, I like the seating outside even if it's a little squishy as it's set on the sidewalk. I opted for the their lunch special because I didn't enjoy their pizza on the first go around. The lunch special is $9.95 for any 1 empanada with a side salad. Unfortunately it's a really small portion for lunch, I wasn't even super hungry and I felt like I needed at least another empanada or at least a larger salad. So my advice is to add an extra empanada if you opt for the lunch special. I wanted to like this place but it just hasn't worked out for me. Oh well, like I said in my previous review, Simon's Cuisine still has the best tasting empanadas and best value too.

-----24 Jul, 2012-----

More chicken on the pizza please. Corrientes is from the same owner and chef as Hermanos. In fact, it's a 2 minute walk from Hermanos, west of Rorie Street (right beside the new Boon Burger location).

The menu is short and to the point, there are salads, variety of thin and thick crust pizzas, empanadas and a few desserts. I was excited to try their Argentine pizza and empanadas. I am not quite sure what makes an Argentine pizza, distinctly Argentinian but I know that food in this region has a lot of influences from Italy. The pizzas come in 12" ($16-$22)and 15" ($23-$30); there are a few very interesting pizzas to select from. I opted for the "Corrientes" 12" ($22) - chicken, basil pesto, roasted garlic and provolone. The pizza can easily be shared between 2-3 people especially if you order some appetizers. But it can for sure feed 2 people if you're just there for pizza. This was thick crust pizza but it wasn't overly thick by any means. The dough was more bread like and there was A LOT of provolone cheese on this pizza and very light on the rest of the toppings (barely any chicken). So if you like heavily cheesed pizzas, then this is for you. I prefer more balance between all the toppings on my pizzas so this one didn't do it for me.

I love the empanadas from Simon's Cuisine (an Argentine place on St. Mary's Road). I'm sure different regions make their empanadas differently but because Simon's are the only Argentinian empanadas I've had, that is the benchmark I will use to compare to Corrientes. The empanadas are ordered as a starter or a really light meal if you order a few. $3.75-$4.75 per empanada - it's about the size of a pizza pop. Corrientes' version tastes like more like a calzone, thicker bread that encases the filling. I like how the empanadas are folded differently which helps identify what filling is inside. I tried the "carne ahumda" - smoked beef and onion and the "pollo" - chicken, onion and tomato sauce. The chicken one was seasoned well whereas the beef one was quite bland - tasted just like unseasoned ground beef. I still prefer Simon's empanadas as the exterior is lighter and the fillings have a lot of flavour.

I like that they have an extensive wine list and the few wines by the glasses were all very reasonable at about $5-$7 per glass. The restaurant is a moderate size with a bar and dining room and has a nice casual feel with lots of Latin music playing. Service is extremely warm and friendly and food service was pretty fast.

Delicious!. I had the Corrientes Pizza last night, and it was great! Started with an empanada, then the pizza, both were delicious! Great atmosphere, I love the couches in the back, makes me want to stop by for a latte with friends next!

Great pizza. Lots of cheese and other toppings are generous. Empanadas are tasty as was the chefs appetizer plate.

EMPANADAS!. The historic and stylish setting sets the mood for delightful pizza experience. Charming staff, Empanadas to die for and fantastic fresh made pizza. The wine list is extensive for such a small place and creates a feel like no other pizzeria in Winnipeg. The Argentine dessert "ginduia" is a must have decadent treat.

Had dinner at Corrientes tonight- it was fantastic! The empanadas and pizza we tried were delicious, and our dessert (the gianduia, a chocolate hazelnut mousse) was decadent. Nice laid-back atmosphere and exceptional service. Will be going back soon!

This restaurant is charming! Tried two kinds of empanadas, both were delicious. And I really enjoy their small bites breakfast menu. Am in love with the ham & cheese croissant! The morning staff are so friendly.

Have yet to try a pizza, and while the prices do seem a bit high, I have no doubt that the quality will be worth every cent.

Welcome to the neighbourhood, Corrientes!

Pricey for a new restaurant. We've all been waiting patiently for Corrientes and Boon Burger to open on McDermot Ave. Much to our delight, Corrientes opened last week. The immediate comment upon review of the menu is that the pizza is too expensive. Most 12 inch pizzas are $19 or $22 dollars which is on the high side. This seems to be turning off my co-workers and preventing them from eating here. I ordered some food for take-out including a 15' humita pizza with corn, carmalized onions, cheese and bacon. The pizza was large with lots of cheese but there were a maximum of 4 slices of bacon on the entire pizza which was a disappointment. Also, the corn was dry and flavourless which is inexcusable considering that even frozen Green Giant Peaches and Cream corn would be better. The empanadas were delicious! I particularly enjoyed the ones with salmon and feta and prunes and bacon. The pastry is very light for an empanada. But again, the prices were a bit high considering the small size of them. I'd like to see this restaurant succeed so I wish they'd started out with lower prices and risen them as their customer base increased. Service was exceptional and the ambiance of the restaurant is fantastic with a small library at the back to enjoy a morning coffee.

Fun and Delicious!!!. My fiance and I stumbled upon this on our way to Hermanos. I wanted Italian, he wanted Latin- he won. but then we saw "Argentine Pizzeria" and we found the best of both worlds!! I started with the salad, which was fresh and tasty, and my fiance had two empanadas. I didn't taste them because he looked like he was enjoying them way too much to share. We then split a 12" pizza, and (another big deal for couples) could get it half and half! It was amazing! And then we found out it was their first week open - totally unexpected since the meal and service were flawless. Great job!

We loved the chicken pesto pizza, the empanadas were great our favorite was the salmon/pickerel one. Great pricing on wine and beer. Noelle has made another restaurant success!
