Review Elephant & Castle - Winnipeg

I wanted to like this place and not just because we got this for one of our birthday meals. Quick summary: we found paper shreds in not 1 but TWO dishes, the shep pie was very bland with minimal fillings, and the pretzel appie was burnt. Chicken pot pie and bread pudding was good. Overall wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend. :( Here's a breakdown of ratings: - Salad: 1/5 - had paper in it (see photos) - Pie sampler: 1/5 - had paper in it, didn't trust eating the others after finding it (see photos) - Pretzel appie: 2/5 - google image search pretzel bites. That is not what we got. Instead of gold - goldenbrown we got brown - dark brown well done bites. :( - Chicken pot pie: 4/5 good flavor and saucy! Good crust. Could have used more filling for the price. - Bread pudding: 4/5 make sure you like raisins they are all over the middle of this. The bread was pillowy and good, it was a bit well done on the top, but not overly.

My Husband & I tried Elephant & Castle for the first time today and we will difinatly be back again! The atmosphere is so warm & inviting, the staff are very friendly & knowledgeable and the FOOD....OMG..the FOOOOOOD is to die for! 5 stars plus for sure!

This is a regular supper spot for me. I love the friendly staff and how they recognize me when I come in. My server will usually ask me if I want my regular beverage and tell me what’s their current menu fav for me to try. Whatever I choose arrives hot and beautifully presented. My favourite is bangers and mash! Yum! E&C is an excellent place to bring friends for lunch, happy hour or supper. Highly recommend!

Great food, friendly staff, wide selection of everything. When I was there the place was rather packed and they were low on staff and somehow the staff managed to handle the load better than I have seen at other restaurants I have been to, and they did so while still maintaining a positive attitude and they were still very responsive. Overall, a very positive experience, I would very much recommend elephant & castle based on the experience I had. The view of the cathedral across the street is also quite unique and interesting. I would recommend not sitting near a front facing window in the evening (at least in the summer) as it can get a bit bright and warm as it nears sundown.

I had a good time here. Good atmosphere for watching sports and has some good authentic food options. I would come back for sure

Disappointed, I had so excited to come out for dinner with my family. Took almost 10 mins before we received any acknowledgement, we requested to move tables to a smaller more personal space instead of their large both options. When receiving drinks, I found floating small items in my drink. I asked for a new one, upon drinking I soon seen more small pieces floating around (after waiting some time for the waitress to return) got myself plain water and no ice.. Sat there for over an hour, no idea where the food is. As guests who came in after us ; are being served their food and drinks.. we are still there unsure of what's happening.. I understand being busy and "overwhelmed". Just overall bad experience 🙃 Bacon blue cheeseburger and "burger week" meat patties, were burnt. Less to nothing blue cheese. I'll definitely think twice before coming here again. (Ordered here a few months prior, and it was amazing )

Great atmosphere to have some drinks after work with colleagues. Has some old pictures of various bands, Monty Python, and some British iconography. Offers vegetarian options and substitution to their burgers. Large menu for a healthy choice of options. Place was quite busy, food came a bit slow because of it. Staff were incredibly polite and let us know about the kitchen on low staff. Dessert was incredible.

Great service and the burger was amazing! Would come back for the lovely environment!

** LONG REVIEW ** Table for two No wait, comfortable seating and setting. Immediate beverage service Caesar: which most Canadians are incredibly fussy about, was spot on to my liking Long Island Iced Tea: table mate said it was really good, did not confirm with my own testing though Server: friendly and apt Deep Fried Pickles: arrived hot and in abundance, quite a large order was pretty decent even with just plain ranch dressing for a dip. The panko crust was crunchy and not soggy considering it was coating pickles Loaded Poutine: arrived cold, the fries around the edge of the plate were cold, not even room temperature, the gravy was congealed and cold as well, curds were not melted. The rest of the toppings were as ordered, green onion, tomato and sour cream, hard to mess those 3 things up Sent it back to be remade, no hassle from the server, quite apologetic and immediately attended to it. Arrived hot the second time around, the gravy wasn't to my liking nor the fries, but that is personal taste, at least it was hot this time around French Dip with Caesar Salad: Salad was crisp and not over dressed. A lot of cheese, so for some it may have been overkill. Croutons were not typical, which is nice, pumpernickel maybe? A bit on the hard crunch side, which is probably why other places over dress their salads, but not terrible Sandwich was put together by a free form sandwich architect for sure using mediocre ingredients. The beef tasted old and the oil from the beef being on the flat top or pan heated destroyed the bun. The cheese, swiss, was dry on one side, the side flapping about 1/3 out of the sandwich. Attempts to reassemble failed as the non-hard piece of the slice was actually melted. Mushrooms and onions were in there sparingly and the au jus was thin, cold and covered in a thick layer of grease that was neither delectable nor desirable, one dip and that was it for me. Ate my half of French Dip without bun, as it had disintegrated, and without the Dip. This should have went back too but the table mate just decided to live with it, so we did. Would not recommend. Food was lack luster, about a 2 out of 5 and I wouldn't recommend either the poutine nor the French Dip. Service was spot on, server checked back several times to ensure we were attended to. Friendly and very accommodating. Sent a review through their website and it didn't take long for someone to reply, management perhaps, regarding the experience. We weren't offered anything, not that we were looking for anything specific, rather than a sorry for the experience, thank you for your feedback and hope to see you again for other items. I would say the shining moment was the service and the partial response to the concerns I brought up in a review similar to this on their survey website, but I wouldn't recommend the dishes that we had aside from the deep fried pickles and the Caesar salad if it was a stand alone salad.

A top notch old English style pub! The stuffed Yorkshire was amazing and they make a pretty good breakfast too. Our server Lauren was awesome 😎🤙 Next time there's a good concert in Winnipeg I know where I'm dining

Excellent meal after a long day of work. I had the Steak and Mushroom Pie and it was great!

We were there with some friend on Tuesday for dinner + drinks. Food was delicious—as always! Our server seemed very distracted though, or like she didn’t want to be there.

We've been here twice recently, first time we were not very impressed. Decided to go again as it was in the motel we were staying at and we were in a hurry, this time we were very happy with service and meal.

We were staying at Delta Hotel right beside so just take the elevator down and be at the bar was awesome, sandwiches were excellent, beers and services as well. Will be back again 🤙🏻👍🏻🍻

Good food and atmosphere, My only complaint was the serving person took over 20 minutes to bring the machine to the table to pay my bill.
