Had the pleasure of dining at the Fairmont Winnipeg’s VG restaurant for their Whiskey Dinner this week with my husband. We had an amazing time during this 9 course feast.
The whole event was top notch. The service was excellent and the culinary team led by Chef Tim Palmer prepared an amazing menu, pairing local MB ingredients with renowned whiskeys. Plating was beautiful with many intricate components on each dish. A feast for your eyes as well as your tastebuds.
Would highly recommend :)
Third time visiting this hotel. Stayed here to celebrate my 30th birthday, of course the Fairmont did not disappoint! Our room had a great view of Winnipeg; it was clean and homey. Had dinner at the Velvet Glove, and it was phenomenal! Kudos to Daniel, EJ and Carly who made our experience over the top. Had breakfast at the Gold floor lounge, and was entertained by Patrick and Hayden. All in all, amazing experience; my sister and I had a wonderful time. I would definitely come back here again.
Absolutely loved our anniversary meal at The Velvet Glove restaurant at the Winnipeg Fairmont Hotel! Highly recommend it... exquisite meals and fabulous service in a very lovely setting!
My experience at the Fairmont was incredible. All of the staff where incredibly friendly, very knowledgeable about the hotel, and talk about a beautiful hotel! The pool is located on the top floor which was very interesting, there’s also a hot tub and sauna which I did not know but found to be quite Excellent. I paid for valet parking so that my 4 1/2-year-old daughter and I would not have to walk from the Parkade of course you have to pay for valet parking - to me it was worth the cost so my daughter did not have to walk in the cold. I hope that anyone that complains about paying for valet also understands that things do not come for free and peoples time is worth money. I was incredibly impressed with the fair price I paid for the two nights I stayed there and I will absolutely be staying there again! Also just to add, the restaurant is absolutely amazing it is beautiful and you could tell there are top chefs that work there because they are very particular about how things are cooked!!
Keep up the great work everyone! You have a fantastic team working at that hotel!!!
We had dinner at the Velvet Glove, it was the best food I've ever eaten, anywhere.
Exquisite service! Everyone goes above and beyond to make your stay pure perfection. Special treats and celebrity sightings a bonus bit of fun. 👸🏼🍪
Five stars is not high enough to convey the excellence of the Fairmont Winnipeg. We had a Fairmont Gold room with access to the Gold Lounge and services. Cannot speak highly enough about the staff and the amenities available in the lounge.
Fantastic place to stay, comfortable and very welcoming. All the staff are attentive and always helpful. Whenever I am looking for something to fill my time with, they show their excellent concierge knowledge.
We usually do a staycation twice a year, a getaway before things go back to normal. This was the first summer I didn't get vacation with my girl, and our regular hotel we always stayed at was booked. So I decided to splurge and bring her here for a weekend. Throughly enjoyed it. Was nice to be downtown for once, and enjoyed the walking around. Service has been top notch, and they even went above and beyond to find contact solution. Know that's impressive. We'd most definitely come back for sure. Highly recommend it for couples looking to get away.
We booked online and arrived from Edmonton at 1am on the Thursday before the Easter long weekend. When we got to our room we were disappointed because it was quite a bit smaller than we expected. We were all tired from our travels, staying for 4 nights and we wanted to be comfortable. I called the office to see what our options were and to talk about a possible refund so we could switch hotels. After speaking to the front desk personnel, I was put through to the Manager on duty. She listened to my concerns and the fact that we were considering moving to another hotel that could better accommodate us and she immediately offered us an upgrade to one of the suites they had available. She had the room made up within 15 minutes and came down to personally move us up to the 20th floor. We were consistently greeted by the friendly staff, had fun at the pool and they even had an Easter treat brought up to the room for our daughter. The staff took great care of us for the entire weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. When our bill arrived at the checkout time, we weren't quite sure what to expect and were pleasantly surprised to see that the original fees were charged. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Winnipeg!
Thank you to Amy and the rest of the staff at the Fairmont/Velvet Glove! Best customer service anywhere!
The food for our lunch was delicious! And the help in organizing it all, even accommodating our staff with special dietary needs was greatly appreciated! Looking forward to next time!
Very nice place to stay and the staff Wow! very friendly that will bring me back.
Sunday was my partner's birthday and her mother was kind enough to offer to babysit and give us 24 hours of "freedom". As a present, I booked us a room to the Fairmont so we can both let loose without having to worry about going home and take care of the kids. Upon our arrival, we were upgraded to the executive room for a relatively lower fee. Gentleman at the front desk (Lionel) was kind and offered us two extra free cocktails. We then went to the lounge and met a gentleman named Aaron and he basically made our night quite special. Thank you to the staff and management for making my partner's birthday quite unforgettable.
Recently had dinner in the Velvet Glove Lounge before the Jets game, service was very attentive and friendly, food delicious and lots of great options to choose from, would definitely go back.
We arrived at noon for brunch and were promptly led to nice quiet table for two. The server explained the new brunch menu. I had eggs benedict and smoked salmon, my wife an omelet with mushrooms and gruyere cheese. We both ordered americano coffees. The brunch was excellent. I can't say enough positive things about the meal. I ordered a ceasar made by the bartender at the table, a simple excellent brunch.
I cannot say enough about the Velvet Glove.
I was there last night with family, to celebrate a very special milestone birthday.
Everything was impeccable. Staff was exceptional; especially kind and attentive to our guest of honour. Friendly and efficient, they went well beyond the call of duty to ensure that each and every one of us was taken care of and completely satisfied. (I imagine that was what they do for all of their guests.)
I was impressed by the large selection of vegan and vegetarian options, and the fact that I was spoken to several times and offered delicious and unique suggestions.
Good things are worth the wait. The beautiful presentation and quality of our entrees were excellent. They were works of art! The attention to the most minute detail was impressive and made us feel very special.
I had difficulty choosing, because so much looked delicious. I decided on the Vegan Pho. It was light and tasty, with just a hint of ginger; exactly what I wanted. The tofu and pickled mushrooms were tasty, and the edamame and sprouts were crisp and flavorful. My portion was generous.
Several others had the Northern Waters Char. One had the Manitoba Pike. Another had steak. Everyone was impressed by the quality of the mains and their very special accompaniments.
If the entrees weren't impressive enough, we were thrilled by the desserts! I had the Velvet Glove's take on creme brulee; Hybiscus Creme Brulee, with strawberry jam and pistachio dacquoise. It was phenomenal! Gorgeous to look at, it was heaven to eat!
We also tried the Chocolate Crunch Bar, which was deliciously decadent, and the Deconstructed Cheesecake. The latter was very good, although a more traditional constructed version would have been preferred by that individual.
The Velvet Glove also had a vegan cake that was no short of amazing, again, with meticulous attention to detail and presentation.
All in all, with exceptional food and service, we had a wonderful experience.
Thank you to everyone who made our celebration extra special!
The velvet glove has been on my list of places to try for quite a few years. I was very excited when they had a feature on Groupon for a four course meal and jumped on the opportunity to experience the VG. My boyfriend and I came here for a romantic night out. The ambience of the restaurant is great! Very warm decor and lighting created the perfect atmosphere for our date night.
FYI, make sure you bring your appetite for this four course treat! The first thing brought out to us was an assortment of bread with a roasted red pepper spread and butter. We each ordered a cocktail to pair with our meal. I chose the bartenders feature "Salty Dog" and my boyfriend went with the Tennessee Sour. The Amuse Bouche of the evening was a beef tartare. This was my first time trying beef tartare as it's always somewhat weirded me out. Overall it was okay, but not something I would order again (just personal preference). For our second dish, we each ordered a salad. Granted that we were having a fine dining experience, I wasn't expecting large portions. The salads were huge, and a meal in itself. I chose the Manitoba salad, while my boyfriend ordered the Kale Caesar Salad. Both salads were deliciously full of flavour! Our entrees were the Wild Boar Chop and The Cider Brined Chicken Supreme. Both proteins were cooked to perfection. These dishes were not only delicious, but visually on point as well. To finish the night off we decided to share the two dessert options that were available. I really cannot choose a favourite as both desserts were very good! Not overly heavy or sweet but just enough to satisfy that sweet craving after such a savoury entree.
The service we experienced was top notch. The lady who greeted us was very friendly and seated us quite promptly after our arrival. Our server's name was Albert and he was very attentive throughout the whole evening. Not only were the staff extremely efficient, but very friendly and professional. Our glasses never went empty and the timeline between dishes was well managed. I find it rare to receive such a consistent experience with both the food and service exceeding my expectations. Well done VG!!!
The Swizzle Styx dined here yesterday and it was fabulous as always. We started with the meat and cheese board which was excellent. We dined on the trout special, fish and chips, and mussels and fries and everything was great. Our server, Rod, was outstanding and the food was delicious and beautiful. Yes, this place is expensive but you get what you pay for in every way. Love dining here!
great decor, awesome staff, fabulous presentation, wonderful ingredients and you get to try stuff you wouldn't normally find at most restaurants. That said, you are paying for all of that, and if thats not what your coming here for you might not be so happy with the price ;p
it was delicious but so are less expensive restaurants ;) i'm not sure if i would return due to the cost, but i will keep my eye out for their specials and if something catches my eye i may be back to try it out;)
the boar was DELICIOUS omg i need to eat that all the time lol, the PB&C WAS GREAT!! and got to be honest here, unlike most restaurants the portion size for this was perfect it was sweet but when you were done you didnt feel like you ate a bag of sugar lol, the brined chicken was a tad disappointing, my crab cigar was awesome and for 18$ you can tell they used quality crab so i was ok with that! frozen peaches and creme was nasty i don't want a fruit roll up thank you, and i dont care for coconut milk ice cream yuk! salmon tar tar that was given before appetizer was alright the only great part was the edible spoon it was served in. the salmon..... i've had better at an all you can eat sushi restaurant. the bison carpaccio was awesome, i've never had this and would definitely try it again who knew raw meat other than fish was delicious! i did notice the snail garden on their menu, that sounded very interesting!!!
I would recommend you try this restaurant at least once ;)
I felt that Velvet Glove does what a good Hotel restaurant should, give everything something to like but to do it in a way that leaves you with a lasting memory and the feeling that your money was well spent. This place qualifies with a definite "not bad" rating. Wish I could say more, but there really isn't more to say.
Had a great dinner celebrating my girlfriend's birthday. Kindly prepared a little decorations on the dessert dish I've ordered with words 'happy birthday'. She surely love it. I've also ordered white wine follow with steak in medium rare, so well cook and juicy. Mushroom soup fresh and tasty. One fine restaurant afterall.
If the Nacho Libre burger from 'Le Burger Week' is any indication of the quality of the food here, then I will definitely be back to try a sit-down dinner in the future. The rest of the menu looks interesting and the atmosphere looks quite nice. The server was friendly when we picked up our order. We will be back!
Fresh bun, juicy patty, perfectly ripe tomato - every aspect was very good. Each ingredient complimented the Italian flavour of the Caprese burger concept.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner! As I'm not from the city, it was great the restaurant had the special menu for the evening! Loved it!
Lovely Lunch. My sister offered to take me any place I wanted for my birthday as long as it was within walking distance of MTC where she was headed right after lunch. I decided that I would like to try The Velvet Glove since it had been years since I'd been there. It is a graceful, calm location which is so different from most downtown eateries. Of course, you pay for that calmness but since I wasn't paying the bill I didn't care.
The waiter was prompt and efficient and just chatty enough to make you feel welcome. He told us about the salmon lunch special and my sister decided to order that. It came with some pickerel spring roll type of thing and had a (I believe) rose sauce. My sister said it was very good. I also chose fish but went with the Guinness battered fish and chips, easily the best battered fish I have ever had. It was crisp and light and not greasy. One tiny complaint would be that I would have liked to have been offered malt vinegar instead of the white wine vinegar. To me, malt vinegar is what goes on a fish and chips dinner.
The waiter asked if we were staying in the hotel and when we said no he asked if it was a special occasion so my sister told him we were celebrating my birthday. The waiter also had a September birthday and we chatted a bit about how September comes about 9 months after Christmas. I thought no more about it until he came back at the end of the meal with a plate on which sat a small cheesecake with strawberries and Happy Birthday spelled out in chocolate on the edge of the plate compliments of the kitchen. Very nice gesture.
I don't think it will be years until I return to The Velvet Glove but I will have to save my shekels to afford it.
A great restaurant. Our dinner at the Velvet Glove was as wonderful as any restaurant we have been to in Winnipeg. The service was perfect and the food delicious.
Wonderful place for a cocktail and a meal. One of the few restaurants and lounges in the city that is actually relaxing and dark. the ambiance is great and the food is good quality and very tasty. also the best cobb salad in the city.
A Nice Evening. I joined a friend of mine for a 6:30pm dinner on a Tuesday. We both decided to start with a martini but I was surprised to find they didn't have a martini list. (This place is more classic than trendy) Our waiter was very helpful at this point bringing me over several cocktail books they had on hand ! I opted for a Lemon Drop while my friend had a Classic Gin. Both were very good.
Fresh rolls and bread-sticks were served with plain butter sprinkled with sea-salt and a marvelous butter mixture our waiter told us was spicy eggplant and Parmesan.
For appetizers I went with the Crab & Avocado salad $14 and my dining partner had the Wild Mushroom and Shoal Lake Wild Rice soup $8. My crab salad was tasty, served as more of a crab salad mixture with various micro greens on top...what seemed to be missing however was any presence of avocado which I assumed would have been a main ingredient ? The mushroom soup was very flavourful and much enjoyed.
Our main courses arrived and were well presented. I had chosen the: West Coast Sablefish $34
Pan Roasted, Black Olive Tapenade, Braised Spinach
Steamed Fingerling Potatoes, Tomato Saffron Jus and my friend had the : Atlantic Salmon $28
Pan Seared. Sauté of Leeks, Loveday Oyster Mushrooms, Green Peas, Carrots
Cherry Tomatoes, Roasted Baby Red Potatoes, Sauce Beurre Blanc.
Sablefish was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed the olive tampenade. My dining partner also was pleased with his salmon. I thought the temperature of my meal however, could have been a little warmer.
I managed to find room for a Lemon Tartelette with
Fresh Berries & Blueberry Reduction $9. It was awesome !
Overall I'd say it was a good dinner, typical of what one would expect of a restauant in a higher end hotel.
Lots of great options.. Try the chocolate mousse cake with lychee sorbet! so good!
I've had a few meals there and have never been disappointed.
Looking for an amazing option for Valentine’s Day in Winnipeg? My fiance and I had a sneak preview of the special Valentine’s Day Aphrodisiac menu at the distinguished Velvet Glove restaurant located in the Fairmont Hotel in Winnipeg . Eraj, the new Executive Chef created a magical evening for us by telling a story with each dish that he brought to our table.
