Review Cibo Waterfront Cafe - Winnipeg

Patrick Werestiuk
Awesome river side restaurant and bar with great views of the downtown exchange district. Chris our server was great and the service was spot on. The only minor issue was I had the steak and beet salad which I ordered the steak medium rare and it was medium. Great atmosphere and a fantastic old renovated building.

Nice place right off the river. Trendy and fairly casual nice place to eat with family or friends. Small menu which is good so don’t have to wrestle and try to figure out what to choose. But everything that we had was excellent. Very tasty. Services was superb as well. Nice place over all.

My partner & I had dinner reservations and were sat at a window as we had requested. The wait staff were attentive but not intrusive. We shared an arancini which was very good. We then both had the spaghetti carbanara and we both enjoyed it, however I did have to ask for the missing red chili flakes for mine. We were too full for dessert!

Cibo Waterfront Cafe This cafe is located right behind Mere hotel on Harbour Front Drive. On Sunday the parking on the street is free. In the afternoon there was ample spots to be had. This cafe is quite beautiful and has a classic urban feel. I love rhe high ceilings and large windows. The layout has an airy and classic feel to it. The historic area with the Red River offered many great views from inside. Our server was wonderful and friendly. We had our drinks and orders taken promptly. The menu may seem a bit light on choices but what they make is really good. The double pepperoni pizza has superb. The crust was great, light and airy, chewy but not tough. The cheese and sauce was so very good. One of the best tasting pizzas I've had in awhile. If you like pepperoni pizza this place is for you.

Our son and daughter-in-law had their wedding reception here last night. Exceptional staff, very accommodating and friendly. Stunning views of the river and towards Provencher Bridge area. Delicious dinner (pest chicken/prime rib). I'd like to go back for date night, very romantic atmosphere.

Spent a delightful evening at the Cibo Waterfront cafe. Got lucky to get the patio w the view. Service was very satisfying. Food was delicious..we got the Margherita pizza, Entree Salmon and to share got Pickerel Fritto. And obviously there’s always a lil place for dessert so we got the Triple Layered Dark Chocolate Cake 🍰 I mean amazing food w amazing view, what more could you ask for?! 🥰 Hurry up if you haven’t yet😋

We were there on a sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Had never visited before. We had the double pepperoni pizza - great smoked provolone on this pizza. We had heard good reviews of this restaurant before today. Great views out the window onto the Red River. Beautiful patio area as well. Lots of great seating choices. The staff were friendly and attentive. We would definitely go there again.

Never had a bad meal there. Breakfast is delicious I can highly recommend the Serrano ham. Also if you want a smack their antipasto platter is seriously on point

I’m in love with this place! Amazing service, food & drinks. We had Whitney as our server tonight and she was the best.

Amazing atmosphere on the patio washrooms a bit small for a wheelchair, but doable. Would go back

Great atmosphere and food. Location overlooks the river and interior is stunningly raw.

One of our favourite places! Love sharing the pancetta and mushroom pizza for an appetizer! Great patio too! Wish there were a few more comfy chairs with small tables for two people.

Every once in a while, you find a gem where you least expect it. Tucked in behind the Mere Hotel in Winnipeg's Art District, Cibo Waterfront Cafe is simply extraordinary. Imaginative menu, great service, awesome feel. Last night might be the best meal I've had in perhaps twenty years. Bravo! Arugula and beet salad, amazing arancini served in a cast iron skillet, brilliant carrot soup, and a delightful carbonara with pancetta and no heaviness to the sauce. Wowsers. Come here and try this place!

Had supper and breakfast here and both experiences were exceptional! Wonderful service and amazing food!!! Definitely coming back again.

I went with a group of about 10 people, service was fantastic. The bar tender ended up making me a special drink and it was so good that my friend ended up ordering one too. Everyone at the table loved the food, I had the 3 types of bruschetta and they were all very good! Definetly going back soon 😊
Corrie Ruhlen
Love this place! The atmosphere is relaxed and fun. I love the exposed brick and view of the river. The pickerel appetizer is amazing and the pizzas are my favourite.
Leo Conrad
Great place for a flavourful meal. The bruschetta was amazing and have had their pizzas before which are also amazing. Great attentive and knowledgeable service with reasonable prices.
Warren Neufeld
Always a cool spot to hang out and enjoy the great views while enjoying something to eat/drink.

Cibo has a great atmosphere in a unique venue. A variety of menu selections; the bruschetta trio is always a favourite. We anticipate many returns.

Really nice place and very good food, tasty! The service was very good also, I liked it very much. Im gonna be back for sure

Always great service and delicious food. Beautiful design of the restaurant as well with all the exposed brick and the views overlooking the river. We love it there!

My father passed away a couple weeks ago, yesterday was his birthday and I wanted to commemorate him by having a nice meal at Cibo. My partner's birthday was also 2 days prior so we were celebrating that as well.<br/><br/>We looked on google and saw Cibo was open until 11pm. <br/><br/>I went onto the website at 9pm and booked a reservation for 10pm. <br/><br/>30 minutes later I was called by Raeann from the restaurant. <br/><br/>She told me that the kitchen closes at 10:15pm. <br/><br/>I told her that I would try to come earlier so I could still have a dinner to celebrate my father.<br/><br/>On the way we pulled the menu up on our phones and decided what we wanted before arriving so it would be quicker easier on the staff. We only ordered apps so it would be quicker for them too.<br/><br/>We entered the restaurant at 10 on the dot and were greeted by Raeann. Before sitting us at our table she abruptly told us we had 5 minutes to place our orders because the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes.<br/><br/>While walking us to our table Raeann loudly said "It's been slow tonight, the cooks have been in the kitchen for an hour and a half with nothing to do and we wanted to shut down early" In a passive aggressive attempt to guilt us. (This was an hour before Cibo closed)<br/><br/>We sat at our table feeling incredibly guilty and placed our order immediately, as to not make the staff wait on us.<br/><br/>After placing our order we noticed Raeann walking around cleaning, shaking her head and rolling her eyes at us. She was also standing at the bar, complaining about us with a woman that had blonde hair and was counting money.<br/><br/>When our first plates arrived Raeann brought them to us. She slammed them down onto the table, didn't give us eye contact, didn't say anything to us and quickly walked away. <br/><br/>We started nibbling on our first plates, feeling incredibly rushed and uncomfortable.<br/><br/>While waiting for our last plate to arrive, Raeann was cleaning up around us, closing the blinds to obstruct our view of outside, shutting off the TVs, and vacuuming near us. All while shaking her head at us and rolling her eyes. (This was 40 minutes before you were set to close) <br/><br/>She brought us our last plate of food, again she sat it down in an aggressive manor, didn't give us eye contact, and didn't say anything to us. She stormed away, rolling her eyes and shaking her head again.<br/><br/>At that point my partner and I were so uncomfortable we decided we should leave. <br/><br/>I grabbed my jacket, and quietly walked out of the restaurant. <br/><br/>I am not exaggerating when I say I was in tears. My father had just died, it was his birthday, I was trying to have a meal at a nice establishment to commemorate him and share memories. Instead I was treated awfully by a staff member and was made so uncomfortable I had to leave.<br/><br/>Before knowing we even wanted to leave, Raeann approached my partner (at 10:35 - approx 25 minutes before Cibo closed) she asked him if he wanted boxes to take the food because Cibo was closing. <br/><br/>She brought the boxes, tossed them on the table, didn't say anything to him and walked away.<br/><br/>While paying, he spoke to another waitress and explained the situation since there were seemingly no managers in the building. She explained that Raeann had been called in for 3 shifts because another employee had the flu.<br/><br/>That is no excuse for her behavior. I used to work in the service industry for 10 years holding management positions. I have never in my life made a complaint about service. Normally I heavily sympathize for service workers because of my service experience. I have been incredibly frustrated with customers and have never in my life treated someone that way.<br/><br/>Our evening was ruined by the interactions we had with the staff. <br/><br/>We had to go home and eat our $19 charcuterie out of a takeout box to commemorate my father instead of inside the restaurant.<br/><br/>I have been to Cibo about 10 times and I have never been treated this way.<br/><br/>I will not be back. <br/><br/>I was made far too uncomfortable and I will be too uncomfortable in the future because of my experience there and I don't want risk being treated that way by her again.

If you want to go exploring for a hidden gem by the river, Cibo is the perfect place to go. An old pump house that was converted into a simplistic and stylish restaurant. The food is tasty, although a bit bland for my taste. Presentation is incredible though.

This review isn't about one specific visit. I've been here numerous times for lunch and supper - sometimes with friends and sometimes for work. Every time the food has been delicious.<br/><br/>The burgers, pastas, and pizzas are all fantastic! As for the appetizers, the risotto balls and the calamari are wonderful. They also have the tastiest dessert I've ever had - Giant Crème Brûlée Macaron (from Jenna Rae Cakes).<br/><br/>The service has always been great, and I love the space. It's a nice converted old brick building with super high ceilings, massive windows, and great views of the river.<br/><br/>They also have a good selection of local beers, including (usually) my local favourite - Nonsuch Belgian Blonde.
Brittney
I have been here a couple times and they were both great. The food is very good and has great presentation, love the atmosphere. Only thing that sucks is the parking but that’s expected in the downtown area. <br/>Will come back here as they have the best bruschetta variety!

So disappointed in the service we received with our visit to Cibo's last night. In advance, I made a reservation online, and once we got there we were seated at a table that my guest was not able to sit properly due to coats hanging at his head. We asked the hostess to move to a table we noticed was available, which seemed to have inconvenienced both the server and the hostess. While enjoying our appetizer and after placing our main order, we were asked if anyone informed us that this table was reserved for 9pm (told this after 8pm) and asked if it would be enough time to eat??? By this point we were feeling rush and unwelcome we decided to have our food togo, which again aggravated the server and inconvenienced her. The food was absolutely fantastic, but that seemed to have come with a price... As much as we were looking forward to having a great evening at Cibo's it ended up turning into a huge let down.
Alyssa
Celebrated a few parties here. Food’s pretty good and has great presentation. Love the atmosphere and their attentiveness as servers. Parking can be tricky so just prepare to give yourself a bit of extra time to find a decent spot.

Food is tasty! Service is friendly, courteous and quick! Got the bruchetta which I liked because you get SIX pieces, two of each type chosen which I thought to be a nice amount vs price.<br/><br/>Environment is relaxed, I like the brick and the softer lighting and elemental feels.<br/><br/>The Cibo Mule is delicious. Very citrus/tart with a pretty light mauve colour and a thin lime on the top scattered with blueberries.<br/><br/>And also had the Ceasar salad and cup of soup (roasted vegetable) which exceeded my expectations of being too watery and too tomatoey, but was really tasty, thicker consistency and smokey flavoured! Loved it!<br/><br/>Our server Milana (sp??) was super sweet, friendly, prompt and very helpful with the menu as well!<br/><br/>Great experience first time there. My only qualm would be that we wanted to sit by the window. But our fault we didn't speak up.<br/><br/>Thanks Cibo!

I love coming to Cibo Waterfront for supper and I do come quite often. I am never disappointed in the food and sevice and my favourite is the different kinds of bruschetta that they offer. I was very disappointed that they changed there dessert menu from their own to serving only Jenna Rae Cakes products. I loved Cibo's own dessert menu and everything tasted amazing on it! I'm not a huge fan of Jenna Rae Cakes products to begin with but I figured I would give them another chance to see if things have changed. I tried the cookies and cream cake. I could not taste the oreo portion of the cake, the cake was incredibly dry and the icing tasted exactly like I was eating a sugar cube. It was so bad that my mother in law actually couldn't eat it. I highly suggest eating a meal a Cibo and skip the dessert and go somewhere where desserts actually taste good.  Bring back your old dessert menu!

Cibo WF has been our GoTO for a few years. We went last Saturday of the Labour Day weekend. Sat outside. A few visits ago we discovered the Whiskey Sours perfectly made. We would return , just for theSours. However on Saturday, the Sours are off the menu, but after some discussion our server brought us a couple. Not up to standard. We had quite a wait to be served then for the drinks. The patio and bldg exterior need attention, dry leaves, cobwebs. The beet and beef was described as medium rare, but when it arrived, it was medium, no pink. Hope all this change is not the slippery slope

Went for the first time. We ordered bruschetta, arancini, pizza and buttermilk fried chicken with fries. Finished with cookies for dessert. Food was good. Fries are addictive. Really liked the apple and Brie bruschetta and the ricotta with figs. Liked the location and ambiance. Only thing I didn’t like is I felt rushed despite it being a Sunday night. Our mains arrived before we were done appetizers so I felt I had to eat quick so my main wouldn’t get cold. Even a few minutes between is nice. Dessert was served just a quick. Service was very friendly and kind. Food overall isn’t the best I ever had but it all tastes great and was cooked well. Will definitely go back.

Great food but unfortunately very indifferent service. I really want to like this place more but I cannot care more than they do...................

We often go to Cibo prior to attending a concert or the theatre and have been quite satisfied until our visit on Wednesday evening. I ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon poutine and was very disappointed that the French fries were at best par fried. Rather than being their usual crispness and tasty ness they limp and bland. In addition the cheese curds were not melted and blended into the stew but simply appeared as a number of firm chunks.
Leanna Claeys
I typically go with their charcuterie board, always a win. Love the atmosphere. I ventured past the meat and cheese and ordered the Panino. I didn’t ask but assumed that meant it was ‘Panini’ style. It definitely wasn’t and I really hoped it would have been. The Brie didn’t melt, the bun was fresh but, again not the toasted part I was hoping for! They served skinny fries but I would request them to be well done as they were quite oily and had no crunch.

Regular customer for years and I always leave happy. Get jeremy as your server when possible.<br/><br/>Recommend the bruschetta esp. The mushroom with goat cheese and apple brie. <br/><br/>Tried their new winter sangria not too long ago and compared to last year's, this one is better.

Cibo is an upscale cafe located on Waterfront next to the Red River. It's an excellent place for business meet-ups, dates and casual hangout!<br/><br/>The menu selection is limited but the food is generally pretty decent.<br/><br/>My go-to/favourite items on the menu are:<br/>Bruschetta - must have!!<br/>Cibo Pizza<br/>Carbonara<br/><br/>Cibo serves shoe string fries. The fries are very skinny to the point that they remind me of Hickory Sticks. They are alright the way they are, however, they get quite greasy after having a few. We had the Beef Bourguignon Poutine at one of our visits and we would not recommend it. The stew beef, cheese curds and gravy are great, however, because of the nature of the skinny fries, they sink straight to the bottom of the gravy so you are left with a soupy bowl of poutine. The poutine would be much better if it were to be served with thicker fries.<br/><br/>Overall, Cibo is quite a neat place to visit! Check it out if you have never been!

I had rosé sangria and my husband and I shared the pickerel appetizer. Both were great. Our waitress was very helpful. Both the sangria and appetizer were recommended by her, and she nailed it.

My first visit was a lunch date with a friend on a warm summer afternoon, so we made the most of the sunshine and sat outdoors on the patio. The tables and umbrellas are sandwiched between the riverside restaurant and the Mere hotel, with only a side view of the Red. Ordered the beet and beef salad, with a nicely grilled, medium rare flat iron steak and plenty of fresh leafy greens. Only comment was that you had to hunt and peck under the lettuce for the small diced beets and white beans, but it was a nice combination with the light red pepper vinaigrette. Service was friendly and attentive.
Food + Ambiance
Beautiful place in the exchange, LOVE the ambiance and vibe! Service is good. I wouldn't say the food is spectacular but it is good. I came here for lunch, would come back to try supper. Also I wish the patio was on the river-front side, where it is currently is uninspiring.

The Swizzle Styx dined here last week and it was very good. We've been here before but the portions seemed bigger and the food tastier than before. The only negative was the slow service but the place was packed. The charcuterie board and pickerel fritto were outstanding. We also had the beet and beef salad, calamari salad and burger which were all goo and the fries are excellent. The location is beautiful and the atmosphere is great!
Melissa Nelson
Nice spot, lovely building and good views on the patio. Expensive cocktails so not a good spot for drinks. The food was delicious. Had the burger with a side green salad, my boyfriend had the steak sandwich. The steak sandwich was the best ever and I enjoyed that more than the burger, but the burger was also good. Will go back to try more on the menu!
The Hangry Accountant
There's nothing quite so disappointing as being really excited to try a restaurant frequently raved about and it ending up being meh. Our drinks were great I had the grapefruit soda and my friend had stage whiskey sour. Both tasted really good and weren't too sweet. The bruschetta was good as has been previously mentioned and the soup and cesar salad I ordered were okay. The issue was that it took over an hour for us to finish a meal of one appetizer, two salads and a soup. I don't know what happened but we felt forgotten about and people who ordered the exact same thing and arrived after us had their food much earlier. My friend's Cesar salad was taken off her bill but we would have much preferred someone come and tell us our food got mixed up or whatever may have happened. Also our drinks sat empty much too long. May or may not be back.

Beautiful restaurant, attentive service, great starter (bruschetta), disappointing main (chicken entree - lacked flavour, side potatoes uninspiring)
Lumberjill66
You really can't go wrong with breakfast here. Fresh food, great service, reasonable prices. Love the setting. Great views. Never had a bad breakfast here at all.
Jasmine Zurbriggen
Love the ambience of this place and the servers are always attentive & cheerful. The food is good but not amazing - still overall a good restaurant with decent food and a great vibe
Nina
Went her for a special occasion yesterday and had a great time. Great service, food, and atmosphere. We will be back! Really recommend the bruschetta appetizer. New favourite spot, reasonable prices!
Laura
Had the arrancini and margherita pizza, app was stellar, pizza was not bad. Good selection of wines by the glass, only options are 6oz or bottle though. Prices were reasonable. Service was awesome.
Jay
I'm only giving this cafe a 3 because a.) the location (beautiful riverside patio and on waterfront) b.) the amazing bruschetta starter. The chicken and Brie sandwich was just ok. My server was not attentive to the amount of water or cocktail I had left... When I asked to look at the drink menu again because my drink was empty and I didn't know what I wanted, he didn't come back for another 10 minutes to see if I as decided.
Melissa Kay
Went here for an early lunch and was seating right away. We had a beautiful view of the river. We ordered the Arancini and Bruschetta. They took slightly longer than expected and they were not hot. The flavours were nice but I could not get over cold risotto. With a bit of work this place can become amazing.
Melanie
Had the chicken and brie panino. The filling was tasty, but the bread was too thick and fries were odd - basically hard, crunchy potato chips that only looked like fries.
Julie
I'm disappointed to say that my view of Cibo changed quite substantially after booking a private event recently. Miscommunication with management led to a number of unexpected surprises during the evening, which were frustrating and time consuming to sort through. If you are considering booking a private or group event, I'd strongly urge you to get the details in writing as the inconsistent information and service was pretty jarring.
Terry Smith
Had a great meal in a great space after it was recommended by our AirBNB good mix plate of Bruschetta followed by the Arancini Balls which were delicious and cheesy with a hard crust - partner had the Carbonara which was spicy and good - beer good - Jack Sparrow was a pleasant whiskey based cocktail and service was good - it's also a very next Ce space - we were lucky to get in as we went early - suggest you book on a weekend <br/><br/>All the best Terry and Shane from Sydney Australia

This was our second lunch visit to this restaurant. Good service. Didn't like fries that came with meal. How the heck do you eat it? Steak was a bit tough. Coffee was old. Last lunch was awesome. Maybe one off. Will try one more time

Husband and I went out for an anniversary date. Wanted somewhere different with a warm atmosphere. Cibos was perfect! I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I am picky about my wine and the server did n excellent job suggesting 2 or 3 on the menu and letting me choose from there. After a few minutes she even came back to make sure I liked it. Hubs got the whiskey sour and it was good. We ordered the bruschetta and it was good! We will def go back!

Went for a casual lunch date with the girlfriend. Service was a little slow and casual, but for our purposes worked out alright. Location and the space itself were pretty cool in the rustic ex-pump house. Bruschetta was amazing to start, especially the Brie/Apple/Balsamic. Had the Carbonara for my meal, nothing amazing, but good. <br/><br/>Would certainly go back.
Luke Jacob Thiessen
This place has it all. Really great Mediterranean pizza, delicious bruschetta, lots of good menu items to choose from. But also a beautiful location, and tasty well-priced brunch, which was a surprise considering the dinner crowd and menu.
Ultimato
Our server was friendly but didn't seem to like us asking questions regarding the menu. We wanted to know what the Cibo dish was, and she seemed to be flustered while trying to explain it to us. I asked for recommendations on popular alcoholic drinks, and she recommended a non-menu item (Cider Whiskey) that turned out only to be the Apple Bourbon from the menu after the bartender brought it to us. After that point she didn't seem interested in serving us. Service for the rest of the night was mediocre; she would drop the dessert menu on our table without saying anything, and actually FORGOT that she took our dessert order already. She asked us twice for dessert. The food itself was great; we ordered the bruschetta (amazing dish) as appetizer, and the Carbonara and The Panino sandwich. Both were delicious. Highly recommend the food. Overall, the experience itself was not as great due to the service, but the quality of the food and alcohol was excellent.

We've went to cibo a few times. For our first date and special events . When I reserved a table last time and this time they did not give us the correct table. Last time the table we asked for was empty so we were able to ask to be moved to it, but on valentines I booked a reservation well in advance for a certain table and it was taken when we got there on time for our reservation. My question is why would the option for a reservation be there if they are not going to value it. We were sat by the door which had a huge draft when other tables further away from the door were clean and available. The service was OK at most as I am a server as well I was not amazed by our server. The food was good but could have been better there was little to no sauce on my boyfriends steak and was some what dry and my chicken was obviously overcooked not to much so that it was inedible. The chefs should know not to let it sit or cook to long or it'll get dry. After getting some sauce for the steak and salsa to combat the chickens dryness the meals were better. Overall nothing amazing. Very disappointed especially when we come for the memories we have in this resteraunt.

Ooooh...sorry Cibo, you disappoint! Possibly the full meals are the way to go here. Popped in for what we expected to be a good coffee on a Sunday morning when most coffee shops in the area were closed. Ordered an Americano and it came tasting like slightly flavored hot water. It was fairly obvious to me that the cup is too large to completely fill to top after adding the two shots. I don't like sending things back but reluctantly asked for a solution when I remembered I was paying $3 for this. She said she would make me a new one and I told her less water was probably all it would take. She returned with another, only a smidge less water which resulted in a smidge more taste. I drank half and wondered why McCafe can make me a better Americano.<br/><br/>Dear Cibo barista, if your Americano has two shots in a huge mug, you cannot add copious amounts of hot water, thus watering down any hint of espresso. If the goal is to have a full looking cup, consider downsizing the vessel 😬

I was here last night with some coworkers and friends, and was surprised how long it took the space to fill up (I suppose this was probably because it was Monday). The service was unmemorable--we were a loud table so maybe she was giving us space.<br/><br/>I had the arancini to start and a Cibo pizza for the main. The arancini were very good, but on the steep side for price at about $5.00 per ball. Also the sauce was more like a salsa, even though the menu says tomato sauce; however they were deliciously crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The pizza crust was crispy and thin and the toppings were cooked perfectly, so that the prosciutto wasn't tough nor chewy (just right). The egg however was over-done and did not spill over onto the pizza as anticipated.<br/><br/>I would go back, as this restaurant is close to work and has a unique menu and ambience, but it's not the highest on my list.

Atmosphere: Clean, upscale, dim lighting.  Made for a very relaxed and compfrtable meal & meeting.<br/><br/>Service: Prompt, friendly and knowledgeable.  Actually asked them to recommend the dishes and it was worth asking.  Drinks were always full.<br/><br/>Food: The star of the night.  The Bacon Carbonara was absolutely delicious.  The sauce had the perfect spice, lots of bacon... couldn't ask for more.  The 4 bruschetta's we tried were all delicious.  Different flavor profiles each, so mood would determine which one I order again.  The fries were an in house cut and made product.  They were thin like hickory sticks, but a normal fry length.  Lightly seasoned, I would highly recommend those.  The Arancini was melt in your mouth creamy and flavorful.

I don't get what people like about this place. I had high hopes but the food is so bland. It's like Stellas. Everyone in Winnipeg loves it but I just can't get it.
Melody
I loved the atmosphere of this place . I went here for a friend's birthday and I gotta say that everyone else's dish looked much more delicious than mine was. I ordered the entree Caesar salad. I didn't think it was possibly to get Caesar salad wrong, but apparently you can. This dish lacked so much flavour. Usually when I think Caesar I think creamy and garlic, but this was not what I received. Instead I got barely wet lettuce with some croutons, parm and dried prosciutto. They definitely need to amp up their dressing a bit. Will give it a second shot as their pizzas did look quite delicious and the service and atmosphere were quite nice.
Jason Iwanoczko
I ordered 2 appetizers and a entree. 1 of 3 was good the other 2 barely edible. Poutine was fries in what I would describe as almost beef stew. It was fantastic but the pizza they were known for was burnt and had almost no toppings at all. Will. It be going back.
Foodee
Cibo offers a modern and cozy vibe through its lovely interior design. Our server was very attentive, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu, which was a bit disappointed because it is so short! I ordered carbonara and it was a bit too salty for me. Portion is huge, totally worth the money. But the highlight of the night was the brownie, which tastes amazingly awesome! They're opened late as well which is perfect for friends or family gathering. Would definitely come back!

A beautiful room to sit in, this restaurant offers a very pleasant dining experience.  Great for night out with your special someone.  Service was ok, prompt but a bit apathetic.  We ordered the charcuterie board and a pizza.  Both were really excellent.  Prices are about average for a restaurant this nice.

I enjoyed absolutely everything I ate when I dined here last month: a generous cup of roasted garlic and potato soup, mushroom and pancetta pizza, with chocolate five ways to finish it off. A glass of red sangria complemented my meal nicely. <br/><br/>Our server was pleasant, helpful, and very knowledgeable about the menu. My only criticism would be that I was not informed about the tip already being added to the bill for our party of 12, so I tipped again. Partly my bad for not reading the bill more closely, but I would have appreciated knowing in advance that I didn't need to tip.
Mai
This is for sure one of my favourite go to places. I love the arancini and the poutine and their salads and bruschetta options. I also like their sangrias. I find it so hard to find a good sangria in Winnipeg. I like the atmosphere of the place and the music that plays. It's a little pricey but I think it's worth it.
Jelissa
Stayed at the mere hotel and decided to stop by this place for late night food and drinks. Tried the bruschetta to start the apple and Brie is absolutely fantastic! My boyfriend and I then decided on the cibo pizza. That was very good as well. The thin crust is fantastic. We are frequent visitors of the mere and will definitely be stopping by here again

The service was a little slow at times I ordered the Cibo pizza and it was delicious and had an egg on top. Although, my sister ordered the same thing and they completely forgot her order and she patiently waited for 20 minutes until they realized their mistake and they graciously put the plate on the house, overall good experience.
Karen
Sooo disappointed!. I suppose my expectations were too high. The location is superb. The setting and atmosphere is fantastic. But the service and food is terrible. <br/><br/>My friend and I ordered Caesars, which were weirdly sweet and spicy at the same time. The garnish of pickled green bean was tasteless. We sent our drinks back and I chose a sangria, which was very good, thankfully. <br/><br/>I ordered the antipasto platter and my friend ordered the featured pizza, a Greek pizza with tomato, olive and feta, or so we were told. Our food came out, and my friend noticed that the pizza she had didn't look like a Greek one, but we were busy talking to the server about our terrible Caesars. <br/><br/>Needless to say, the pizza was the wrong one. And my antipasto platter was so underwhelming. The meat tasted soapy and perfumey. The baguette was dry and bland. The cheese was tasteless. And we got the gross pickled beans again. <br/><br/>Midway through, our server's shift ended and we got a super rude woman server. She made us feel like awful people for mentioning that we were less than satisfied with our service and meal. <br/><br/>We couldn't wait to get out of there. I will not be back and will tell friends about it. So terribly disappointing, because my expectations were so high.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary together on a Friday night. We had made reservations earlier in the week. When I first got there the hostess, who was not very friendly, sat us at at a table beside a fire exit door covered in plywood. The main highlight of this restaurant it meant to be the view, we could see nothing. When I asked if it was possible to move to another table I got a very unhelpful rude response from the hostess. Our waiter was nice and on the ball but our food was very disappointing. I ordered the pickerel, it was overly salty and the rest of the meal was bland. My husband had the steak sandwich which was mediocre at best. Overall we found the prices were high for the quality of food. For a restaurant boasting great views they should really ensure that every table gets a view.

This place is a find - great location, lovely outdoor dining area, bruschetta was the highlight and salads and salmon delicious. Service was attentive, quick and friendly. Parking on street was handy. If visiting Winnipeg - a great place lunch.

Beautiful location. All food at our table was excellent. Both pastas ordered were fresh and generous. Antipasto plate was varied and delicious. But the arancini were the stars of the meal. I could eat those things all day long.

Location: one of the best locations in Winnipeg. River-front views of the red river and a short walk to the forks. <br/><br/>Food: delicious and flavourful! I had a personal pizza and it was unique and tasty. Freshly fried fish was an appetizer. <br/><br/>Atmosphere: clean and modernized from the old building. Got that Winnipeg Feel! <br/><br/>Overall: loved it and continue to reccomend it!

The restaurant itself has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere and the food is great which is why I thought it'd be the perfect restaurant to have our wedding reception.<br/><br/>I was directed to send my inquiries to Dean - the GM, who at first was very intuitive but as our big day approached, I became more and more frustrated as he would not get back to me on questions and concerns I had. <br/><br/>I kept inquiring about a tasting so we could finalize our menu which was finally scheduled 3 weeks before our wedding, cutting it really close. I had questions about items on the menu and Dean was not getting back to me. I finally decided we would just come in and take a gamble on a couple items and they turned out to be decent. <br/><br/>The day of our tasting, Dean approached us about any questions we may have and he kept emphasizing that the restaurant was still open to the public which I already understood. He wouldn't accommodate to allow us to play our first dance, one-3 minute song, because "the restaurant was still open to the public". He was wary about us having our first dance outside on the deck because "the restaurant was still open to the public". He wouldn't accommodate giving us a cake table because they didn't have extra tables and he didn't want to risk turning away a table because "the restaurant was still open to the public". I wasn't sure where he was expecting us to put our cake, he made no suggestions on a solution, so we brought in our own table. <br/><br/>After our tasting, he told me to email him and let him know how everything went. I emailed him the next morning about my review on the food and had questions about some of the dishes, particularly on a dish to serve to the children attending as my niece has severe allergies. He didn't get back to me at all. I decided on a bowl of pasta with Bolognese sauce which he didn't confirm would be ok. I also asked that the children be served first. On the day, their food came last and it was just a plain bowl of pasta, no sauce. When I asked them to bring out sauce for their pasta, the kids already finished eating by the time it came out. I had also repeatedly mentioned that there would be 4 children attending and we'd need high chairs for them and he had failed to inform me that they only had 2 high chairs so 2 kids were uncomfortably seated in their parent's laps. <br/><br/>We also wanted to order the soup and salad as a starter and because the only soup they serve is the daily soup, he said we could pick the soup for our wedding day. When I asked what kind of soups we could choose from, I got no reply. It was a week before our wedding and I still hadn't heard back from him or finalized our menu. I decided to just go with whatever soup they were serving that day which I thought was good but it was spicy. Some of our guests are sensitive to spice and had I been given a choice, it wouldn't have been spicy. <br/><br/>And lastly, I thought this was common sense, but me and my husband (the bride and groom) weren't even served first!! <br/><br/>I was really attracted to this restaurant for the appeal it had and the few times I've been, have been impressed with their food and service but I definitely do not recommend anyone have their wedding or any big function here. I was extremely disappointed at how unprofessional things were handled, especially on a day that should be memorable. When people ask me how things went, I only remember the things that went wrong. The bottom line is that we weren't treated like valued guests, guests that were having a very special day.<br/><br/>I also emailed this feedback to Dean to improve their overall guest satisfaction and he did not respond. I’ve talked to a few people who have had something similar happen to them.

Cibo is beautiful on the inside. Can't believe they converted a water pumping station to a lofty dining space! <br/><br/>Service is attentive. Plenty of places to eat inside and outside on the patio.<br/><br/>Menu is fairly small, but pretty solid. Poutine was huge and served on a skillet. Bruschetta had different varieties, and you could choose 3 different combinations and have 6 very filling pieces of bruschetta. I got the fig and ricotta, mushroom and goat cheese, and apple and brie. As a cheese lover, I was in heaven.

While the waiter was polite, he was a bit distracted.  Had a hard time getting to our table to serve or take our order.  We sat on the patio.  We finally got water, but getting the wine was another issue.  Waiter had a hard time submitting our order because he was so easily distracted.  My caesar salad was like no other ceasar I have ever had- a vinaigrette with nothing remotely flavoured like a ceasar at all.  The salad was just romaine lettuce, a few (very few) pieces of proscuitto, I think,  and some dried pieces of bread which were supposed to be croutons, I believe.  I had asked for a chicken breast to go with it, but unfortunately, it was so overcooked, that I needed my husband's steak knife to cut it.  Very dry.  Good thing for that vinaigrette.  It helped to get that chicken breast down!  The antipasto is a bit of a joke too.  Can't see this place lasting much longer.  I think the owner has more money than restaurant know how.  Our first sign should have been a half empty restaurant in Winnipeg on a Saturday night.  Not a good sign!!  Great location by the way.  Too bad it's wasted. <br/>

Not impressed. I had heard so many good things about Cibos and was excited to finally try it tonight. While the ambience was very nice and the hostess was welcoming and friendly, the rest of our visit was underwhelming. <br/><br/>There's were 6 of us in our group. I had the panino sandwich and was hard pressed to find any chicken. 4 of us had the steak sandwich and ordered medium rare. All 4 came out pretty much well done. The salmon dish was so/so. <br/><br/>4 of the meals came out at the the same time but 2 of us waited almost 10 minutes to get the meals. <br/><br/>Our server was not very attentive and seemed flustered most of the night. <br/><br/>The manager did recognize the our meals took a long time and we were offered a complimentary dessert to share. That was a nice touch and the dessert was the best part.<br/><br/>Not sure if I will go back.
Lkaminski699
Poorly trained staff. Food was very good , however the staff and on site Manager were unorganized, unable to serve the tables in timely fashion, unable to clean and reset tables as well not very happy which showed. The resturaunt wasn t even full.<br/>We had ressrvations for 2 weeks prior and when we got there we were seated in the very back corner, <br/>I will not return

Beautiful setting. Enjoyed dinner but slightly annoyed by careless kitchen staff. Green salad was bunches of greens not even separated from one another. No radish or pepper or anything accompanying it either. Beef stew over fries was not hot so cheese curds had not melted. But beer was cold so no criticism there. Bar tender assigned to our table. Nice guy but had to bar tend as well.

Great Food, Service, Portions, View. My wife and I were in Winnipeg for a convention at the Fairmont Hotel and decided to take a walk one morning. We happened upon this restaurant and went in for breakfast. What a treat!<br/>Food was great, service was great, portions were huge stop me when it gets to the bad part.<br/><br/>Two Thumbs up!!<br/><br/>We will definitely be back and encourage anyone else to do so as well.

Great salad and pizza!. Great beef and beat salad along with a crimini mushroom pizza. Easy parking, lovely space, great service, and not too noisy. I will definitley return to this restaurant.

Wonderful Dinner At CIBO. Dined at Cibo this weekend and had a table with a magical view of the river. We had a relaxing diner with many delicious courses. The server was very pleasant and attentive. Have been many times and this time brought friends who had not been before. They were very impressed and will return. We continue to go back for all the above reasons.
Zoe.abreder
Overrated. Food is mediocre. I had the Pear and Proscuitto pizza, with cambazola for $16. The pizza crust was alright: super thin, so you can probably eat two. The proscuitto was fatty, salty, and too thickly sliced. I have had melt-in-your-mouth Italian proscuitto before, and this was a far cry. The slices of pear were reminiscent of the fat texture on the proscuitto: white and soft. There was barely any cambazola to be found: tiny specks of it. Topped with some argula which really adds nothing to the pizza but annoying pieces of greenery hanging out of your mouth. Menu uninspired. <br/><br/>Location/ambience is beautiful but that's not enough of a reason to go back.
Jenna
Nice atmosphere but had an extremely limited menu and the food wasn't good.

I ate at Cibo last night for the first time. The food was great, the service was calm and expert and the view is magical. I loved it and my friend did as well. Thank God this old building was saved, it is a real treasure for Winnipeg.

We were looking for an earlyish dinner someplace new. Dropped in at Cibo to see what it might be like. First question, are you allowed to park in the Hotel lot? We found a spot on the street not to far away but it was pretty cold. No tables available , looked like they had a party of 20 booked later so that killed availability. Offered seats at the bar , which is ok by me but was pretty crowded and I was kind of ticked that the person crowding my left was a staff member drinking after their shift. That was a cardinal no no in my restaurant days. We shared the Pickerel and potato fritto and the Cibo Pizza. The fritto was ok, reminded me of patatas brava. I have no idea why people insist on eating pickerel, it's like eating milk soaked white bread . Maybe try some ocean fish next time. Cibo pizza was ok , nice crisp crust, salty meats and a nice sunny side egg on top. Would have been nice to be offered some Parmagiana. Room is beautiful, servers ok, Kitchen staff was very young and a little disheveled for my taste. We'll likely give this one more go.

Review for the Cibo Cafe. It is an awful place. Taking and old mill and making it to a caffe is a good idea, but the service is very poor, the food is below zero, the seatings are terrible, parking is the worst.<br/>Would not recommend it , at all. Zero rating. Maybe the owner should take some lessons from a Baltazars cafe in New York, it would be a good advice and a lesson worth doing. <br/><br/>Harvard professor.

The longest growing pains I have ever seen in a restaurant. Ok, so the atmosphere is just incredible, on this alone the management must feel this and this alone will be the only reason for their success. . I have been to this restaurant 7 times hoping for a miracle but I guess there is no Cibo God. How do you forget to put beer in the fridge the night before that you can't serve because it's warm?????????? How can you go one time and get great service and the next wait at your table for 25 min to just get water because they don't notice you and there are only tables busy???????? It's just goes on and on and on and on and on, just like this. Have not been back for 5 months and I don't miss it.
Sukhvir82
IT WAS OK. It was ok,. There was no parking which is crazy because who wants to walk a 5 minute walk in -40 Winnipeg weather. We stood at the front for a few minutes waiting to be seated and servers would look at us but just continue to do whatever they were doing. I don't mind waiting but no one had the common sense to say "someone will be with you in just a minute" . However when we got seated out server was very kind and made our night better, food was good but I wont recommend this place or go back.
Sebastian
Food was average. The servers clearly had not been trained. I might come back in the summer as the view looks nice.

Great atmosphere!. Like the place for location and atmosphere. Nice and relaxing after work. Service is good and attentive. Food is okay, really don't go there for the food...<br/><br/>Will be back

Good enough.. Menu is on the smaller side. Once you rule out pizza and pasta you're not left with much else. The table did enjoy the "chocolate five ways", and I quite liked the bruchetta (buffalo mozzarella/tomato/basil being my fave combo) and the very thin and crispy fries. I would order the latter two again. The arancini and Spanish chicken panino fell a bit flat for me. They were both fine, but nothing to go on about. Weirdly enough the sandwich tasted better hours later when reheated. Maybe the flavours just needed to mingle more. Portions and prices were fair. And my dining companions all seemed to enjoy their food.<br/>Location and ambiance scored much higher for me. Beautiful building; simple with brick walls, big windows, and wood tables. It would be quite a nice location for a private party. The feel was very New York. Waitress was attentive and friendly, granted the place was quite empty when we came for an early dinner on a Saturday. And, as always, a parking lot is a plus.<br/>Frankly, nothing blew my mind but the food was good enough to return.

First and Last Time. The ambience and vibe was awesome, however, my order of herb and ribeye was horrible. The taste of charred steak and prawns left a bitter taste in my mouth. And potatoe risotto? More like potatoe hash. Super disappointed that I had a party of 15 try this place.<br/><br/>Service was also horrible as the waitress didn't come by to ask how the food was or refill our water. I left the owner (Stephen) a message on Instagram, who quickly apologized for the experience. I thought to myself thank you for getting back to me. He asked for my person email and that he and the general manager would be in touch with me. Weeks and months past with no correspondence. Why even bother asking for my information if you are not going to follow up? Very unprofessional to say the least.

Its awesome and will come back!. Came here with a friend in the summer, the location is beautiful, had the poutine and pizza, and it was delicious! Although it took long, it was really worth the wait. The setting and environment, really encourages the social aspect with the people you are with. It reminds me a lot like the restaurants in Quebec City. If you are in a hurry, I would not recommend this restaurant. But if you would like a place to hang out with friends, enjoy the scenary, and good eats, this is the place! =)

Yummy Bruschetta. Order the bruschetta! You can order three different types for $14 (2 pieces of each) and I loved them all.<br/><br/>The pizza is pretty good.<br/><br/>Atmosphere awesome.<br/><br/>The waitress was completely lacklustre and monotone, to the point of it being humorous...

Cibo = No No. Tried Cibo for the first time with another couple and left disappointed. All 4 of us ordered different meals and all 4 felt food was average at best. Especially disappointing was the herb rib eye and prawns. While I ordered the steak medium rare it arrived Chicago style and the only flavor was a burnt taste. Potato risotto was also a sad surprise when cube potatoes showed up on the plate, some of which were raw. I few of us also felt the menu options were a bit limiting. On the positive the location is scenic, the atmosphere inside is nice and the waitress was excellent and tried hard to improve our experience when we expressed some issues with the food.

Beautiful restaurant in an ideal location. HOWEVER! The entire restaurant was loud - not from a crowd, but because they had "ambient" music turned up so loud, our table had a hard time hearing the server.<br/>The server seemed extremely lost when it came to the specials, and generally clueless (not to be rude - she was very sweet).<br/>I ordered "the feature" burger - burger with bacon and a fried egg. The beef was over-cooked and grey. The egg, however, was so UNDER-cooked, that the whites were runny (and deliciously resembled snot... yummm). THAT'S SALMONILLA, PEOPLE!<br/>The side salad I ordered was 5 gigantic leaves in a tiny bowl - so you couldn't cut them up either. <br/>Truly disappointing. I will not return, nor recommend. I was expecting much more for suh a gorgeous location.

First time going, I would give it another try for breakfast. Beautiful building, so pretty looking out the window watching the snow fall on the river. Great waiter. Loved the antipasto platter. I was shocked at how greasy both our meals were. I had the Spanish chicken panino with fries. The sandwhich had excellent flavor but greasy and the fries were grease over kill. I love greasy food but was not expecting this so I was a little turned off. My husbands burger and fries....same thing.

Trying to hard - lets get back to making good food. So I went to CIBO today with a friend and was disappointed the food had no flavor even the butter needed salt added to it before putting it on our bread. The staff seam inexperienced at creating an inviting atmosphere. The meals were oily and it appears the attempt to make more modern variations of pasta and poutine left me longing for the traditional versions. Skinny fries are not like skinny jeans they are not better more flattering or enhancing of any meal especially not poutine. So while I am critical of my experience we only had two dishes I'm sure they must excel at pizza and salad the other key selections on the menu. Unfortunately It won't be on my recommend list.
Ginger Beef
Nice atmosphere....but. Well made it to Cibo, of course missed the Rob Ford burger. Settled on the burger with bacon and was not impressed at all. Don't get me wrong it was a good average burger but I'm always on the quest for the best. Service was good, friendly knowledgeable staff and great decor.I do want to give a mention to the beef stew poutine which is exactly that. Match stick fries topped with great rich beef stew and cheese curds. This place probably has a bunch of other great items but I'm only here for the burgers. So onto the next..
Rljanzen
Great pizza!. The food was really great, nice atomsphere and the waiter was kind and accommodating, but by far the cibo pizza with the fried egg was to die for, especially if you are fan of salami
Beanmitchell
Hip new lounge. There are numerous menu items I am interested to try so I have to return. On this visit, I has the beef bourguignon poutine and the Barletta pizza. While I enjoyed the flavour of the poutine dish, I would prefer thicker fries as the shoestring fries were basically like hickory sticks. But the pizza was absolutely delicious! As for the view, being on the water, there is great potential but in the evening, bright interior lights result in nothing being visible through the windows.

Hoping for More .... I was at Cibo just over a week ago with friends for the very first time. Thought the atmosphere and the wine were pretty dandy, and thus made a reservation in person to return with my husband tonight. Things started off shaky when they didn't seem to have our reservation ... the servers actually grilled us a bit about our first name/last name, etc ... almost as if to imply that we were "joshing" about really having a reservation at all! The atmosphere once again drew me in. But the food left a LOT to be desired! Antipasto meats were decent, but the cheeses were lame, and the "pickled cauliflower" was a little pathetic. The pizza was the utmost disappointing. Bland and soggy-ish. I will say that the atmosphere and the wine redeemed the place, to a point. I want to see Cibo do well, as I so much appreciate the re-vamped, industrial feel! My suggestion would be to re-do the menu completely. Find some cohesion, and learn to master the small amount of dishes that are offered. Very best of luck to you, Cibo!

The atmosphere is relaxed and ambient. The staff is exceptional and lively. As for the food, it is 5 star quality. Every bite I took was better than the last. The drinks are unique and not one disappointed me. I recommend anyone with good taste in restaurants to visit Cibo.

Perfect and lovely.. I have enjoyed lunch at Cibo twice. Freya our server was perfect and welcoming. Our table was great the light and the view perfect. The Margarita Pizza is my favorite we will definitely return. Thank you.

Fouth Visit. Following an MTC production on Saturday night my husband and I walked over to Cibo, yet again. I must admit my hopes on this visit were not that high based on our last visit. <br/><br/>This time around my husband once again ordered the steak sandwich which he enjoyed on our last visit, while I decided to try the carbonara. I kept thinking back to our last visit and the salmon I had ordered. I don't want to be too harsh, so I'll simply say the salmon was abominable and leave it at that. <br/> <br/>We started off with the caesar salad with prosciutto, which around here never disappoints. This time was no exception. <br/><br/>When I took my first bite of the carbonara, I realized I had been waiting for it to suck - so imagine my surprise when it didn't. It was a far cry from the best pasta I've ever had before in my life (Filomena Ristorante if you ever find yourself in Washington DC), but what I paid was fifteen dollars and what I received was a fifteen dollar meal. For what I paid it was okay. <br/><br/>However on my next visit I want a little more than okay. I'll go back to ordering the spanish chicken.<br/><br/><br/>-----21 Dec, 2014-----<br/><br/>Third Visit - Hit and Miss. My husband and I tried Cibo for the third time a few weeks ago following a show at MTC. We were seated quickly and our service was prompt and friendly. <br/><br/>This time around we started with their Caesar salad to share. Damn. The dressing was excellent and it included crispy prosciutto. Outstanding. We inhaled it. We will most definitely order this again on the next visit. <br/><br/>My husband really enjoyed his steak sandwich. He thought the red wine and mushroom sauce with it was quite tasty. <br/><br/>I tried the salmon on lentils. The salmon fillet was served with the skin left on, which I found a bit off-putting when it landed on the table. The salmon itself was a bit dry and overcooked. The entire dish was totally and completely devoid of flavour. Definite miss. <br/><br/>The hits in this restaurant make me root for it and I really want this place to do well and stick around. But I really wish they would try to work the bugs out.<br/><br/><br/>-----19 Oct, 2014-----<br/><br/>A Good Pick Overall But Room For Improvement. I am basing this review upon two visits to Cibo. The first visit was dinner on a Wednesday night with a group of five at 8:00 pm. The restaurant was completely packed and there would have been no hope of a table without our reservation. Our server was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. <br/><br/>We tried the antipasto platter as a starter. It came with bread, pickled beans, two types of cheese, olives and a selection of meat which included a generous amount of prosciutto. An absolute steal at fifteen dollars. <br/><br/>We tried the pizza, the pickerel and potato fritto as well as the panino, all coming in at well under twenty dollars each. Very large portions on each entree. Real standouts were the Spanish chicken panino that was extremely flavourful as well as the shoestring fries. <br/><br/>In addition to a satisfying and ridiculously inexpensive menu they also boast a decent wine list. Now as someone who loves going to wine tastings and trying new flavours I know a great wine doesn't have to be an expensive wine. I've found some excellent fifteen dollar bottles as well as some ninety dollar bottles that taste like a dirty ashtray. Whoever put together the wine list at Cibo obviously knew this too. As I scanned the bottles on the bar my eyes were catching some of my inexpensive top picks of the last five years, like Dancing Bull. Just a great list of inexpensive pairings to compliment the inexpensive menu.<br/><br/>Now here's where things take a bit of a turn.<br/><br/>The second visit to Cibo was on a Saturday night. My husband and I came in for an 11:30 pm dinner following a show at MTC. Cibo stays open until 1:00 am on Saturday's which is something my husband and I really appreciate as we love to eat late, plus it's within walking distance of the theatre. Again, we would not have gotten in without our reservation.<br/><br/>No issues with the service - again we had a friendly and attentive server. The issues on the second visit were with the food. As a starter we tried three varieties of the bruschetta: buffalo mozzarella, tomato, basil and mushroom, herbed goat cheese as well as soft blue cheese, pear, candied walnut. The mushroom with herbed goat cheese bruschetta was terrible. Ice cold, sopping wet mushrooms out of a can. <br/><br/>As an entree we both selected the herb rib eye with prawns and were advised by the server that the steaks were "huge". Now, the steak was certainly wide, but very thin. The fault with the steak did not lie with the hands that prepared it - the chef cooked it exactly to order. The fault lie with the cut and the grade. It was like chewing on a piece of shoe leather. Toughest piece of meat I ever tried to chew. I understand they are trying to keep the prices down on the menu and the cost of this entree is only 35.00, but I only see two options for improvement here. Either remove the steak from the menu - or charge more and offer a better quality of product. When I order a steak I want it tender, juicy and thick. I really don't care what I have to pay. Currently this entree is just a huge anchor dragging down the average of the entire menu. Either cut it loose or do something about it. (To be fair the prawns were plump and flavourful, so those can stay as is).<br/><br/>Bottom line - I will be back because this restaurant does offer many great items, but there is most certainly room for improvement.
Out And About
Comme ci comme ça. An overall 'meh' for me. Went twice in 3 days - once for a group lunch (8 ppl total) and then for breakfast a few days later. <br/>First - the location/ambience etc - Great overall décor. Minimalist, not stuffy or pretentious. Has a tendency to get a wee bit noisy, but not enough to make you shout or want to leave. The upper seating area overlooks the river, and has cozy tables. I love the triangular tables for 6 which seems to make the area appear more spacious and unique as opposed to the conventional rectangular tables. I would appreciate paper towels in the washrooms to open the doors. Hand dryers seem a little like they're looking for an easy, low-maintenance way of managing the washrooms. <br/>Second - service - Clearly hit or miss. Lunch was a hit - attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating. Breakfast, not so much. When I asked what teas they had, instead of the customary verbal list from the server, I was met with, 'What tea were you looking for?' I'm looking for you to tell me what you have so I can see if you offer something other than the standard selection! When I asked what brand they carry, the response was, 'oh God ....? I don't really know'. Hhhmmmm ... A real confidence builder in our server. When I asked if the breakfast sausage was the standard terrible pork link-sausage, the server at first said, 'I don't know', then said, 'we don't serve cheap ingredients, but they're 'awesome''. By the way - it's cheap pork breakfast sausage. At least it was cooked reasonably well and not left super greasy. <br/>Third - food - Some things were executed to perfection: arrancini, assorted bruschetta, and the BEST breakfast potatoes in town. Others were disappointing: under seasoned burgers (which I have read other posters have noted which makes me wonder if A) does the staff eat here? , or B) does anyone from Cibo read or care about reviews?), salty soups, improperly washed lettuces (one salad at lunch was gritty), over cooked steaks. <br/>Fourth - price/value - I don't find the prices on most items at Cibo to be obscene. Considering the price of an average breakfast anywhere in the city, you can easily get a decent breakfast for under $10 at Cibo. <br/>I don't dislike Cibo, but I don't love it either. I love that they use some premium ingredients sourced from local vendors (Stella's bread, the best olives in town from de Lucas, what appears to be Vita eggs etc), but then cheap pork sausages on a limited breakfast menu. <br/>I appreciate that the menu is not ridiculously large, but at the same time, a smaller menu means every items should be executed with consistency and perfection. I can't say that that was evident in either of my visits.

Consistently Horrible Service. I am really rooting for this place, but unfortunately the service has been consistently terrible. <br/><br/>It's exactly what Winnipeg needs: It has great food, a great location and a great atmosphere. I've been multiple times in hopes that it would get better, but it never does. <br/><br/>To whoever owns this place: This could be one of the best restaurants in the city, but its reputation surrounding its weak service is growing fast. Please fix this before it's too late.

Expectations surpassed!!!. We went to cibos last night for our 24th anniversary. My husband called ahead to reserve andsure enough when we got there they gave us a quaint little table right by the windows....beautiful view and so romantic!!! The wine was wonderful...food was delicious and service was perfect......

Terrible Service!. My husband and I came here the day after your wedding, as we were staying at the Mere Hotel. We were seated and then waited and waited and waited for someone to fill our glasses with water and speak to us but no one ever came. We were told that our waitress "had to go do something" and that's why no one had served us. Not impressed. The service was less than friendly, we will not be going back. I can't see a restaurant staying open for very long when they lack such simple, basic customer service.

Not impressed today. After several visits in the last couple months, all which were great - I was very disappointed today when upon arriving at 12 and asking for the brunch menu, they would not accommodate our request. They stop serving brunch at 12 and it was now 12:05. We asked the server if she could kindly request an exception from the kitchen as the restaurant was next to empty and the answer again was No! Very disappointing especially as I have dined with them 6 times in the last 2 months. We regretfully had to leave and enjoyed brunch elsewhere.

Chill and fun.. Despite the amount of suits that were there, the atmosphere was very chill. I liked almost everything--the margherita pizza was perfect, most of the antipasto was great.....the fruit in the antipasto was terrible. Was it cocounut? Wet, shredded coconut? Couldn't even tell. Otherwise, however, it was pretty great.

Nice service, great ambiance, good food. The service was wonderful, portions were good and the food tasted delicious. I will definitely be coming back here again!

Some good, Some bad. I must start off by stating that I absolutely love the look of Cibo, I think it's a fantastic room with great views and tons of potential with a little bit of tweaking.<br/>There were four of us that went for dinner on a week day night, with some appetizer sharing going on as well as ordering our own entrees. We started off ordering a bottle of Prosecco and a cheese and meat board. The cheeses, meat and bread were all very good as well as very fresh, no taste of fridge which I find some restaurants have with their charcuterie. The bread and olives were excellent. The one issue I had with the appetizers was that the server didn't bring us Prosecco but Chamdeville without telling us and opened the bottle and started pouring. I noticed that the bottle wasn't Prosecco and when asked about it our server told us that they were out of Prosecco so she poured us Chamdeville instead. Not a problem if I was told in advance but don't assume I'm going to want something I didn't order.<br/>Next we ordered our entrees and wine but this time I made sure it was what we ordered. Two of us ordered pizza and two of us ordered steak. The pizzas were exceptional which I would order there again. The steaks on the other hand were by far the worst steaks I have ever eaten. Honestly, there was zero seasoning and zero taste, it was as if we were eating a flavourless chunk of hard tofu. The steak was cooked to order but that was about the only redeeming factor. I asked for steak sauce but they didn't have any so I asked for seasoning so the server brought over salt and pepper which still didn't help. I pushed the plate to the side and ate the pizzas instead. The server asked if I wanted the steak wrapped up and i told her I would feed it to the dog. <br/>Dessert was the last course with only three options available, we ordered the chocolate cake done 5 ways which was a bit disappointing. We couldn't figure out what 5 ways the cake was done seeing there were three plain wedges of cake on the plate all the same. <br/>I like this restaurant, the server was pleasant and very friendly but they need to be honest and upfront when they are out of stock on items. They also need to recognize that if a plate of food is barely touched that maybe something might be wrong with it. <br/>80 % of the food we ordered was very good but they really need to take the steak off the menu or get a better grade of beef. I have had better steaks at "Bud, spuds and beer" bars then what we had that night. <br/>I'll go back because it is a nice room and the majority of the food is great but I'll know next time what too and what not too order.

Good times. The view was beautiful, service was great, food was very good - all around a great experience.

Not bad. Had the pizza. Crust was great. Not a lot of topping. Everything is pretty pricy. I wouldn't make a special trip.

I feel that if a menu has few items on it, those items should be done well. This is just not the case with Cibo. The best thing I can say about the meal is "blah".<br/>The cocktail list was intriguing, and the one I chose was very good. The wine menu is small and contains some selections that's I've tried previously and found to be lacking. Once again, if you are going small...do it right.<br/>The atmosphere is cool, but more so for a daytime meal where the view of the water would add to it. The room is too loud to be a relaxing dinner environment, but if you like the humm of a crowd it works.<br/>I'd go back only for a drink or to try the breakfast as I like being on the water.
