Review Thida's Thai - Winnipeg

Nikhilesh Verma
4.5/5 The place was clean and tidy. We loved the Penang curry and the green curry. Would visit again just for the curries. The Thai iced tea was good too. The papaya salad was super sweet and we left more than half of it. I think it was because they overused the sauce they put in the salad. Could have been much better. Overall, the service was super fast. They’re open till 8pm and that’s a bummer. Would give them 4.5/5 for the food. -0.5 for the papaya salad debacle.

Great family run Thai Restaurant. The senior matriarch brings a smile and greets each table. Stuffed chicken wings are not what I thought they’d be but are large and very good. Comes with peanut dipping sauce, was only missing some spice. Tom Yum with chicken (spice level 8) was excellent and brought the heat. M

One of my favorite places. Super friendly, consistently delicious. #23 green curry soup, and #37 peanut curry are favs. Crab wontons are also really tasty.

Absolutely terrific thai food.Had the Thai spicy wings w/peanut sauce ( a bit overcooked but still very tasty ) Pad Mee w/veg and Pad Keeng w/ pork. All mains were excellent! The vegetables were firm( not raw ) and fresh. The pork was moist and zero fat, both sauces were divine !!! Specially the ginger flavor was very present but not overpowering. The woman at the counter was very nice .They were very busy !!! I highly recommend this place if you want succulent Thai food.

Food was okay (the pad see ew and pad nut tasted almost identical) and while the server was friendly, she only came to take order and put food on table.

I order from this place all the time - their food is fabulous. It is delicious. Their staff are friendly.. but service is very slow. Expect to wait. If they tell you food will be ready for pick up in half and hour, maybe show up in 40 minutes instead. Even then you'll probably be standing in a big group of people also waiting for their orders to come out. It's good really, they're busy, I hope they do really well. That part is very annoying. But the food is so worth it.

This is the worst Thai food in Winnipeg ever.. can you believe that is Tom yum soup .. Unfortunately…

We had the coconut rice and red curry soup with sea food. The rice was perfectly cooked with excellent coconut structure. The red curry soup was mild spicy, just how we oredered it and it was packed full of cabbage, broccoli, peppers and a wonderful tastey broth. If you have to wait for your order, it's for good reason. Ours only took 20 minutes when we ordered for pickup over the phone. Customer service was excellent. The staff at the front was very polite and so friendly.

I've been going to Thida Thai for some time during my lunch hour. I usually get the coconut curry soup which has been excellent.

My wife and I decided to go on date night for dinner. We ordered the spicy wings and papaya salad for appetizers and both were excellent. We then had the coconut cashew chicken and shrimp pad Thai. These are two staples we usually order when ordering Thai food; however, they were both terrible. The curry was bland which would have been forgivable. The pad Thai was something my 6 year old child could have made better. There was 6 bean sprouts in the whole dish with no other vegetables, a couple shrimp, and the sauce tasted like straight ketchup.

I thought this was all still forgivable because sometimes unforseen things happen in a kitchen. When I politely let the woman at the counter know she appeared insulted, told me I didn't have to pay and asked me not to return. This was unforgivable.

I would not recommend this restaurant any further simply because the staff treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about. I've eaten at all the Thai restaurants in Winnipeg and Pad Thai is a main dish of all of them. This was not Pad Thai and a disgrace to Thai food.

Really good service!

Very friendly and fast. Pad Thai was phenomenal! Will definitely be back!

Fantastic. Best Thai in the city. Get the red curry soup.

Always a delight. Fresh and delicious ingredients, well prepared. The Pad Thai and mossaman curry are standouts. Service is prompt. Can’t wait to return.

Best for I ever had in Winnipeg. I have given 5 stars and probably would have given more if there were. Best presentation and awesome staff. Love it

Best food I Have eaten in Winnipeg. I give 5 stars for presentation, service, and taste. I would give 100/5 to this restaurant. I am gonna go here for all my birthdays.
Was a little confused at first when we walked in and it looked just like a small kitchen with take-out counter, when the woman at the register directed us down a short hall into a little tucked away dining area. Very private and quiet, but older urban atmosphere, we loved it. Food was great, and the waitress was very helpful with Gluten-free options.

Pretty disappointed in this place when it comes to take out. The food tastes great and I never have any problems when I dine in but they always seem to get my order wrong when I order take out. I called and asked if they had any lunch specials and the lady started listing out numbers, I guess of the dishes. I asked if the lunch specials come with rice and she said yes and I asked if there was a lunch special with massamam she said no and that for curries the lunch specials only include green or red curry so I chose the green curry. I drove all the way home and was disappointed that my order did not have rice. I called and they said that a lunch special was not punched in that I paid for an order of the green curry. They didn’t even offer anyway to fix the issue and I wasn’t gonna drive all the way back for rice. Poor customer service. Will not be back.

We ordered takeout with a group. It’s a bit pricey and the portions are a bit small but the taste was excellent. We had a good spread and variety in our order so it was nice to try different things. The green curry soup is spicy at a level 2/10 but so delicious I already want it again. I also really enjoyed the pad Thai and the Mee Krob. I would definitely eat from there again and would like to go in person as well.

I love that this place is so close to work. Every time we have been here we haven't been disappointed. Mango salad is my favourite. Food comes out pretty quick considering how busy this place is all the time. Staff is super friendly and funny. Will definitely keep coming back.

The food here is fast, consistent and flavourful! The prices are very reasonable. Service is prompt and the atmosphere is nice and cozy.

Ordered the pad si ew, papaya salad, seafood fried rice, and Thai spicy wings.

The pad si ew and fried rice is always a go to and is loaded with vegetables. The seasoning is always perfect.

The Thai spicy wings are not really spicy at all but the dipping sauce is what really makes it so good.

Im leaving a bad review on here not because food was bad. It was delicious! We had a 111$ order and they forgot a 10$ soup dish. We left a 126$ so we tipped for the take out order. I called multiple times when after we put out the food when we noticed there was only 1 out of the 2 soups and left a message a few hours later asking for a call back and for them to call us back with the number that was given on the order. Have yet to recieve a call back. Very disappointed in this costumer service.

Came here for lunch with a bunch a few friends. This place is conveniently located on the edge of downtown and is a nice walk if the weather is good since it's just off Broadway.

I have been to Thida's for dinner several times but this was my first time for lunch. They have lunch specials that change daily. The day we went it was Penang curry on special. My friend isn't a fan of Penang curries and ended up getting a green curry lunch plate instead. Both curries were delicious, but I found they simply didn't include enough rice for the amount of sauce. Other than that, no complaints and will definitely come back.

Just had the Pad Peanut..... it was the best!! :) Will be sure to be visiting soon again! Food was tasty and came out fresh/hot and quick! Thank you, now I'm addicted.

Thida's Thai Restaurant - full of flavour and spice! This place is for sure one of my favourite Thai places in Winnipeg. It’s one of those small little humble places that makes you feel like you’re in someone else’s home, but welcomed because of the great energy the staff give off. Our server was Rick, and he’s a joy for sure!

Started off with the Mango Salad: shredded green mango, carrots, celery, onions, garnish with peanuts and cashew nuts. Every bite was refreshing! Get a bit of the sweet, salty and sour with this dish - fantastic combination, for sure worth a try if you’re a mango lover.

Second was the Miang Kham: Lettuce wrap that you wrap yourself. Platter consists of rice noodles, lemongrass, peanuts, ginger, peppers and pickled garlic - added shrimp for extra deliciousness. Great dish! Fresh lettuce gives every bite a nice satisfying crunch, and everything inside just has so much flavour, very pleasing to the palate. I recommend giving this dish a try as it’s very delicious here!

Had to get a curry dish! Pad Phet: Red curry stir-fry bamboo shoots, celery, red peppers and basil leaves in coconut milk - added chicken to the mix. Good dish, veggies tasted fresh flavours were good and it wasn’t too heavy.

Last we had the classic Pad Thai: rice noodles, scallions, peanuts and bean sprouts. One of the better Pad Thai’s I’ve had in Winnipeg. delightful hint of sweetness and it’s delicious with some spice.

Overall Thida’s Thai Restaurant has been consistent every time I’ve come here, the energy is positive and relaxed. Portions are fair and great for sharing! For sure worth a try!

I’m sure everyone has a favourite place or two that’s nearby where they love to dine. Well, my place is Thida’s Thai!. So, it was my friend’s birthday and I wasn’t sure what to get him. Knowing his love for food, I decided to take him to Thida’s. Although I don’t eat pork anymore, I told him he could choose any dish he wanted with pork.

Had the Pad Nut.....UNREAL. Best Thai dish I have ever had. I added Chicken and an additional side of coconut rice(best rice in town). Saw them on SkipTheDishes and was able to get it delivered right to me! If you like Thai food then this is MUST TRY restaurant!

Great little place. I'm always skeptical trying new Thai places, especially when you find that one that is truly outstanding but a friend of mine and I are really on a hunt to try and find a new restaurant and try some place new. So, we do what we always do and ordered an appetizer and 2 dishes and split it. We order the Vegetarian Springrolls which were, ok. The crunch and freshness were definitely there but I felt they did lack a little in the flavor department. Without the interesting peanut sauce (which I have never had served with Springrolls before), I might have had to pass on these and I was really hoping that this didn't set the tone for dinner.Well, I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Beef Pad Thai and the Chicken Panang. WOW, absolutely amazing. I was a little thrown off by the Sweetness of the Pad Thai but the flavor was definitely top notch! I could have went a little spicier with it but that's on me. The Panang had such good flavor that we were more than happy to be licking our plates by the end. Left stuffed and happy. I would definitely go back and try some of their other dishes.

Ordered from here a few times now. I've tried quite a few items off their menu. It's probably the best Thai food I've ever had. Their spring rolls are amazing, you get your choice of 5 and you get a very delicious not overpowering peanut sauce that's made just right (adds so much more flavour to an already amazing spring roll). Their rice rolls are also quite good not soggy and made just right the time I ordered them. I have not tried their soups yet however I've tried their entrees under 'Curry dishes' if you love curry you have got to try at least one. You get a choice of 4 different options to pair your vegetables, chicken/ pork/ beef, seafood or prawns whatever you're craving and I must say the portions are filling. Definitely can serve two-3 people. You can also add extra curry if you'd like. Now their main attraction their Pad Thai... Amazing. You can add a spice level to it, and my goodness do they ever add a kick. Ask them for a recommendation to accommodate your taste. I get a 5 personally. Again good portion of food. They are friendly and quick to get orders out for pick up and delivery. I always see people leaving with a smile on their face from dining in. The side orders of prawns and rice etc are also good for the price they list. You get quite a bit, wasn't expecting so many prawns for 3 bucks or the quantity of rice for a buck. You should definitely give it a shot. (Also if you don't like spicy, you can just ask them to make it non spicy!) Happy bites!
Laura
The thai food is ok. Service is good. Not very authentic, but good value. Not as fresh as you would expect. I probably will not go back as i have had better thai food.

I have been a customer for Thida's Thai for more than a year now and the old lady who takes orders at the counter is quite friendly, in fact she knows what I usually order and places it without even me having to ask for it. But, today I had the worst experience that a customer could have. I entered the restaurant told the waiter that I would be dining in. He told me to have a seat where ever I liked. I had been waiting approximately for 10 minutes and it started worrying me as there was no one coming to take my order. I got up and asked the waiter who was busy with his cell phone while on work that why isn't he taking my order, it's almost been 10 minutes. Instead of apologizing he yelled at me saying that, you just came in and its not been 10 minutes. I asked him politely to talk with manners and give me the menu and again he yelled at me saying pick it up from the counter and again after me having to tell him to talk with respect to you customer, he started cursing and at one point he came at me as if he was going to fight. After all that embarrassment another waiter from inside came and told me to leave in a harsh tone. I am really disappointed with this restaurants staff and want an apology for the way they treated me.
Truth
Mediocre food, and the portions are so small, there were 10 tiny, thin slices of beef and a heck load of bell peppers, onions and celery. Not worth the money.
LovesToEat
Went here for a lunch with some coworkers and wasnt disappointed. Food was quick. Definitely left stuffed after their lunch special. Spring roll included is just "ok".
NewAge5
Another place which you should not underestimate. Not to seem too typical, but I went for the pad Thai and it was a hot and fresh fully flavoured serving. Flavour was satisfying and coworkers we all pleased as well. Establishment was a little dated but I wasn't there to judge what they put into he floors or tables. Food was spot on and prices were good. Fast service and definitely will come again.
Justin Stanley
Great food and always super busy (proves it!)

Pad Nut and Pad Thai are my favourites. I get a spice level of 5 and usually go with chicken.
Riyoneil
Excellent service! Best Green coconut soup! I love their Pad Thai keeps me coming back no other Thai restaurant will get my favoritism. Thida is the lady behind the counter (i believe lol) she loves my girlfriend and I she even gave me free order of spring rolls when I went to pick up food, cause no one got the order. Always come back for awesome Thai food.
HungryHulk
Had a take out lunch after reading the good reviews but personally didn't like it compared to other thai places around the area .
Felt like flavours were missing in the food but they did make it spicy enough for me .
M.R.
Not the best Thai food in the city but it's pretty good! I keep coming back not only because I live nearby, but the service is amazing! Thida is lovely and the young guy who is often behind the counter is so friendly.

Their soup broth is amazing, especially the red curry and tom kah. The depth of flavour is great, layers of ginger, lemon grass, basil and spice. However I find the meat sometimes to be tough. Last time I got the seafood medley red curry soup and the seafood was all overcooked and tough. There seem to be varying reviews on the accuracy of the spice scale (1-10). Some reviewers have said it's very spicy, but I always find my dishes to be under-spiced. I've order level 8 spicy and barely even sniffled! Maybe they don't expect a little white girl to be able to handle the spiciness ;P

The curries are pretty good, although I prefer Vientianne for curry. My favourite is the panang, the sauce is addicting! Like many other Asian restaurants though, the majority of the dish is onions and peppers. I would prefer more variety of vegetables. They have a pretty good lunch special where you can get 2 spring rolls with a small order of rice. The crab wontons are also good, if a little small. The peanut sauce is one of the best I've had. Definitely home made and doesn't taste processed like at some other places.

Definitely recommend if you're in the neighbourhood

Ordered from here on the weekend through skip the dishes. We have picked up food from here couple years ago and it was yummy. We decided on soup and pad thai and I got an order of chicken wings. The only thing that was disappointing was the soup, Id wished it was bigger, it said large for 2-4 people but it hardly served 2 of us. Very Flavourful and spicy. The wings were so yummy, with a hint of lemon and my boyfriends pad thai looked amazing and very big, he got 2 meals out of it. We will definetly be going to get food from Thidas a
Bluejeanbaby
Food tastes so good and authentic . Service is quick, friendly, and consistent. Prices are reasonable. I especially love the crab wanton, pad thai, basa fish fillet, & green apple salad.
Nedbraden74
I always come here for lunch with my wife. We always have the lunch special, chicken pad Thai and spring rolls. It's very good and very fresh very authentic! This place is like a hidden gem, do yourself a favour and try this little place. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Jessica DeWitt
I had the seafood panang curry with coconut rice, which was delectable. I also had one of my favourite things: Thai Iced Tea 👌🏻 The service wasn't the greatest, friendly but not overly attentive.
BV
We ordered tthrough Skip the Dishes. Pretty average. I will say the matsaman was extremely good but the red curry was not very flavourful, our rice was watery mush and the spring rolls bland and doughy rather than nice and crispy. We requested a spicy level of 8 and at best the stuff was a 4-5. Barely a sniffle was generated. I would not order from here again.
Starlessleviathan
LOVE this place! I've been dozens of times over the years and I have had no better Thai than here.
I've tried many different dishes, but my favourite would have to be the Chicken Pad Thai, spicy level 6. It's got a nice kick, it's saucy (not dry like most pad thai I've had in other thai restaurants) and it's delicious. Also, their veggie spring rolls are quite tasty.
I would highly recommend this place.

On July 18, 2015, a group of 12 people went to Thida's for supper as part of our family reunion. This was the first visit to this restaurant for all of us. The waiter started us off by taking our drink orders, which we received in a timely fashion. He then proceeded to take our meal orders, which we received quite quickly considering that we were a large party. Bowls of rice were provided on the table for everyone, regardless if it was ordered or not. I had the #41, Garlic Pork (Pork, marinade in garlic served over vegetables) for $10.95, plus a side order of prawns for $3.00. My sister, who was sitting beside me, thought that it sounded good, so she ordered the same, plus an appetizer #1 for us to share, which was Rice Rolls (4 per order): Rice noodle, lettuce, carrots & green onion wrapped in rice paper, which we chose with shrimp for $7.95. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I know that I certainly did. There was only one small error made with all of our meals, and that is that they forgot my sister's and my Rice Roll appetizer. This is a small mistake considering how many people we were, and it did nothing to hinder our experience. The waiter was very pleasant, fast and proficient. He even took the time to take pictures of the group. We all had a most enjoyable time at Thida's, and I know that I, myself, will certainly be a returning customer!

Had an extremely unsatisfactory experience at Thida’s this week. Two friends and I met there for lunch. We each ordered one of the lunch specials…one ordered pad nut with chicken and the others and I ordered pad peanut, her with chicken and me with tofu. The pad nut was ordered with spice level 0, while the chicken pad peanut was to be spice level 4 and the tofu pad peanut was to be spice level 5. When our food arrived, it was extremely bland. My one friend asked me if my food had any seasoning or spice and I realized that that was what was missing. She asked if this was normal (I’ve eaten here many, many times compared to her 2-3 times) and I said no, it definitely wasn’t my usual experience with a spice level 5 meal. We flagged down the host (not the server…he had been standing in the entry way to the dining room, directing people to tables and he also took people’s orders while the other staff member was serving the food) and told him that they must have made a mistake in the kitchen and they hadn’t added the spices to our food. He then told us that they hadn’t made a mistake, and that we just didn’t order it spicy enough and maybe we just needed the food to be spice level 10. I tried to explain to him that I had eaten there dozens, if not hundreds of times over the past 10 years that I’ve worked down the block, and I usually can’t get through my meal at level 5 without choking a few times on the spice, not to mention the fact that I couldn’t see any chili seeds, which I normally can. He was extremely rude, and threw a pot of hot sauce on our table and then started to walk away. My friend stopped him and asked if that’s how they normally add the spice, with this pot of hot sauce, and he passive aggressively kept telling us that we didn’t know what we wanted, and that he would take our food away and make it a level 10, so that we would complain and he’d have to bring us new food. I finally told him to stop being so rude and said that we didn’t have to eat there, and if he didn’t stop being such a jerk, we would leave without eating and not pay the bill, and not come back. He then said that he wasn’t being rude and told us we could leave if we wanted and that he’d write off our meals. While all of this was happening, he kept trying to leave the table, which made it more frustrating because we were trying to get a resolution to a problem and he was being very rude and dismissive, and not shutting his mouth full of excuses and blame long enough to actually hear what the problem was. Eventually my friend asked how much of the hot sauce she would need to add to make it a level 4 and he told her that her guess was as good as his, and that he liked it at a level 10, so he couldn’t help her. Not sure why he works there if he has no clue about the food, OR how to provide even mediocre customer service. It was an extremely unpleasant experience, which is unlike any I’ve ever had at Thida’s. None of us left a tip for fear that a portion of it would have gone to him. I would have made a complaint, but I don’t believe that anyone else there speaks much English, aside from him, so I am not sure that the concerns would have been met with much understanding or much of a resolution. I am quite conflicted about this, as I don’t want to be exposed to such an unpleasant person when I spend my hard earned money on a meal out, but at the same time, I don’t want to deprive myself of my favourite downtown lunch spot. Hopefully he reflects on the exchange and instead of continuing to blame us for not knowing what we were talking about, realizes that, even if we were in the wrong (to be clear, we definitely were NOT in the wrong) there was a better way for him to handle the situation and he learns from his mistakes. Either way, I might have to start scouting for a new Thai place because that experience has left me with a really bad taste in my mouth and I’ll think twice before recommending that my friends and family visit this restaurant.

I love Thida. It's one of my favourite places to get Thai food. When I used to work in the downtown area, I would order their lunch specials quite often.

The one pictured below is their pad thai lunch special, which I got with prawns ($11.95). For chicken/pork/beef/tofu it's $10.95, and vegetarian (vegetables) version is only $9.95. All of their lunch specials came with rice (which is a little weird considering I got noodles), 2 vegetarian spring rolls and either a peanut or garlic sauce as a dip for the spring rolls (I got the peanut sauce). I also ended up getting an order of Tod Man Pla ($7.95), which are spicy fish cakes and comes in 6 pieces, and was served with a sweet chili sauce. These were really good, and I definitely recommend trying them.

I've never dined in, but the place looked quite busy during lunch hours. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to dine at the restaurant someday, maybe for dinner or something.

There aren't a lot of restaurants open in Downtown Winnipeg on a Sunday night, so we were glad to find this place so close to our hotel. Sadly, many other tourists found it ahead of us. But we got the last table & were served promptly; remarkably so, under the circumstances.

We started with vegetarian rice rolls, then moved on to a dish of panang and a fried rice dish. The rice rolls were larger than we usually get back home, and were nicely prepared, holding together well down to the last bite. They were served with a mild peanut sauce that even I liked. The panang was a rich red curry sauce with vegetables and tofu. It had a sweet and tangy taste, and a slight aromatic seasoning I couldn't identify. Noticeable, but not distracting. The fried rice dish, with vegetables and beef, was well prepared, and served in quantity, and although the rice was slightly dry, the overall experience was of a pleasant taste and texture.

The place is probably quite nice when you don't have a party of 50, including about two dozen young teenagers, at the next table, and behind you, and across the room from you. And if you aren't waiting for them to figure out who had what --- at the register --- you probably won't share our experience of waiting 20 minutes to check out. I'm sure that under normal circumstances, it's an unremarkable process.

The Curmudgeon's Ratings:
FOOD: 3 chili peppers (out of 5)
SERVICE: 3 1/2 chili peppers
AMBIENCE: 2 chili peppers under the particular circumstances, otherwise probably 2 1/2
VALUE: 3 chili peppers

Amazing Thai food!. The best Thai food i've ever had! Food is always amazing! Everyone who works there is super friendly and helpful! They are quick to bring out the food so it's a great place to go when you are in a hurry!

Thida's Thai was a mixed bag for me. On one hand, the Pad Thai was excellent and ranks highly as one of the better versions I have had in Winnipeg; while on the other, the curry was disappointingly lacking and the meat rendered inedible. Overall, the inconsistency of the restaurant make it difficult for me to uniformly recommend Thida's Thai. Perfect for those in the area and craving Thai food, but know there are much better restaurants in the city that deliver consistently tasty Thai.

Amazing. Hands down best This Food In Winnipeg
TheChristellar
Best Kaeng Phet I've ever had, ever. I've ordered take-out from here a couple times; last night I was craving red curry and ordered Kaeng Phet--at heat level #4. I could have probably been able to handle heat level #6 but #4 was still not disappointing in heat. The very best part about this soup was certainly the creamy, rich coconut broth. It has a spectacular mouth-feel and the overall flavours were very authentic. I've actually heard from people who live out of province that this is the best Kaeng Phet they've had too. So: if you cannot make up your mind--or craving red curry I highly recommend ordering this item! All other dishes I've had were good too but I had to write about this dish.

Fantastic experience with Skip The Dishes! We ordered at noon for a 6:15pm delivery, food arrived slightly early, piping hot and delicious. Crab Rangoon are generously sized and tasty, red curry with prawns was great - prawns were nice and tender, green curry chicken was also great with a nice variety of vegetables. I appreciated the ten point scale for spice level as we were feeding a small child as part of our group, and level two was tasty but mild. Only complaint: though delicious, the Thai wings were only the flat and wing-tip part of the wing, no drummetts, so there was very little meat.

Don't do it.. Really bad experience. sent delivery without any cutlery or napkins. when I called to ask them to send delivery driver back not only did they not apologize, they blamed me and refused to send the driver back . never again.

Dynamite!. I order take out from here all the time and it never fails to impress. My favourites are the Red Curry Soup with tofu, Lemongrass Beef, Veggie Spring Rolls, and Panang Curry with Beef and Mussels. I've been to other Thai restaurants in the Peg and they don't hold a candle to ths place. Better to order takeout as the service can be hit or miss. I will definitely keep coming back often!

Excellent!. Cozy, tucked away jem - great portions, great selection, great prices, friendly folks, tasty dishes! Green curry soup was crazy-good! 8/10

In the running for best Thai Food in Winnipeg. The wife and I love our Thai food, and especially Sukho Thai. The wife works downtown and has been raving about this place. Well I must say after eating there This is in the running for some of the top Thai Food in Winnipeg. The wife had the Pad Thai, and I had the massaman (my favorite dish). both were done to perfection, and the price is right. In fact the massaman was better than any I've ever tried, the wife was also so happy with the Pad Thai. Not the easiest location to find parking when living outside of Downtown, but everything else makes up for it. Great Customer Service, cozy, and well maintained atmosphere.
We will definitely be going back. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great Soup. Stopped by for lunch and had the Chicken Tom Kah soup and it was great. Perfect amount of spice with great flavours and lots of fresh vegetables. Would come back in a heartbeat.

Love Thidas Thai. I crave the spring rolls and peanut sauce. I could drink that peanut sauce it's so good!!! I've been here many times for lunch to dine in and take out. I am never disappointed. Coconut rice with their lunch special and 2 spring rolls is a great deal. Their menu aside from the lunch special is pretty awesome too. The staff especially Thida is so sweet and seo genuinely happy to see you. Definately a great experience.

I've loved Thida's for years. Never very busy, fast service, delicious food, and great prices. We got take-out from Thida's 3 weeks ago, spice level 4...went into labour that night and had my baby the next morning, 4 days before her due date. Could be just a coincidence, but since I love Thida's, I'm giving them the credit!

On the fence. My best experiences at Thida's have been with the Red Curry soup and the lunch specials they offer. The rest of the menu items I have had were disappointing relative to the versions available from the competition.
Arthurus80
Disappointing. I was highly disappointed by Thida's- Winnipeg has a glut of excellent Thai restaurants so I thought a place that was so well-liked would be great. Not so much. Tom Yum soup contained a bunch of weird western vegetables such as carrots and broccoli, yet didn't even have western mushrooms (let alone proper thai straw mushrooms). Yeah that's not Tom Yum. This was the only dish that was actually spicy (I asked for all dishes 4/5 on spice). Green curry was watery and lacking in flavour, and again paired with strange veg to put in a thai curry. Basil stir-fry with chicken was the saddest dish, should be sweet spicy and aromatic, it was none of these things. Completely bland. There is so much better in this city!

Excellent food, excellent service. Has become one of my favorites. One of Winnipeg's best kept secrets!
Yummy Eats
Everything here is delicious every time! Green curry, matsaman, panang, peanut sauce, spring rolls, soups, papya salad - yum! We are always satisfied and order take out quite often.

Consistently the best Thai food in Winnipeg. Everything is fantastic. Just go.
I have seriously never had a dish here that I didn't love. I come back here again and again.

Great for lunch and dinner. Working downtown, it's great to have a fast and delicious place to go for lunch. Their soup is so good, and pretty spicy - I generally get a 2 or 3 for spice, and my nose runs a bit (so...not good for a date but okay when you're with friends who don't care because their noses are running too!). Since eating their peanut sauce lunch special, I've been hooked on that, and get that at a 4 or 5. The lunch is very reasonably priced, you get the pad peanut, rice and 2 spring rolls - all delicious. For dinner, you have to order everything seperately, but it's perfect for sharing. If you're looking for some great Thai (and you don't want to go to Logan for Magic Thailand because, let's admit it, scary as hell at night), this is a great place to go. Oh yeah, their crab rangoon is so freaking awesome - one of my friends won't share and has to get his own order!!

Really good. Provides cervi.... Really good.
Provides cervice with smile.
Foods taste awesome!
A+++

I order here from time to time for take-out and it's always good.

It was really good! I had the Thom Kah(lemongrass soup) and the chicken pad Thai.

The soup was creamy, full of vegetables, full depth of citrus lemongrass flavours. My only complaints with this dish are that the vegetables were really big, almost too big to chew, and the lemongrass was in big chunks, and were quite inedible.

The Pad Thai was exactly how I would expect a Pad Thai, sweet, tangy rice noodles with bean sprouts, peanuts and a lime to squeeze over.

Even with the soup and the pad Thai, I didn't want to stop eating and was quite stuffed from the meal. I'll come back again.

Best Downtown Lunch!. Thida's is the best restaurant for lunch in the Downtown area. The dishes are delicious, and the price is right. It is awesome - everytime! They have a great selection of lunch dishes, and they are the perfect portion to leave you satisfied. Some of the best thai food in the city, especially the Pad Thai, is served here. The spring rolls and peanut sauce are also great. On this particular occasion, we made a reservation for five of us, and it was great. Basically, you should eat here. You will love it!

Get there early!. We went on a Friday and got there about 11:45am. About 15 minutes later there was a line up out the door. The place itself looks like it hasn't been redecorated in a long time. However, the food makes up for it. I had the lunch special - Pad Kra Pow (Basil, ground chili, soya sauce & oyster sauce) & calimari and asked for an 8 on the heat scale. Everything was very tasty and just hot enough for me.
Cin
Consistently Excellent. I was at lunch at Thida's today - probably for the 50th time. Had the green curry special with shrimp. They will substitute a rice roll for the deep fried version. (which is absoutely delicious, but watching the calories). Everything was perfect, as usual. Creamy, but light coconut green curry sauce with plenty of fresh vegetables, lightly cooked, plump shrimp, a little 1/2 cup mound of white rice. Another favouritie is the mango salad - a burst of tropical, tanginess - I usually get it with shrimp to get some protein. A perfect meal.

Thai food is my favorite at all time. Testy, healthy, and stuffs are so friendly.

Great food.. Really this is just plain old good thai food the way it should be. Nothing Overly fancy but the taste is phenomenal. I recommend the papaya salad and the laab.
Laura
Ordered through Skip the Dishes. Specifically asked for my tofu fried, it wasn't. Pad phed was excessively sweet, rice was mushy. Vermicelli soup tasted like an instant cup o soup. Just all around awful. I only ordered from them because Bangkok Thai wasn't open yet. Next time, Ill wait.
Elle
Good People. Informal service and relaxed, friendly neighborhood vibe. Food is very fresh-tasting and flavorful.
The Diner Guy
Worst mee Krob I've ever had, absolutely no flavor. it tasted bland like Chinese food. The tofu in my mee Krob was not good what so ever.. the papaya salad was good & the Tom yum can be hit or miss. this was the first time I've ever had tomato in my soup and it was not good.
Sheldon
Food is really good and authentic . But one of the server is really mean to us.
Alex HR
Great food-nice place for a date. Great variety and a lot of neat dishes. Like most Thai places, they let you order how spicy you want it. Service was okay, but the food more than made up for it. Good for a date or to try new flavours
Nbalkaran
Poor Service. The worst service I have ever had in my life. I have lunch catered every Friday to a company I work for and to date never had a problem with any manager till today. The order was screwed up three times and the outcome with dealing with him was being hung up on twice, one nasty voice mail and called names. This individual had no service industry skills, no manners, and not an ounce of professionalism....For this reason would not recommend Thida's to anyone.....Better Thai places..
Tip_the_canoe
Great flavour, slightly pricy. Ordered takeout, and being a really big fan of Thai food, I found the flavours excellent. Perfect balance of components as is required in Thai, good veggie to meat ratio, and a lot of flavour. For two people, we ordered three dishes because of other reviews saying dish size was small and glad we did because there were no leftovers. Therefore only complaint is that either the dish size should be 150% of what it is, or lower the price of the dishes by a $1 or two. Would still go back, but also will try other places.

Yummy. We have been here many times and we continue to enjoy it. One of our diners requires gluten free items and she enjoys spicey Thai food, so this is one of her real favourites. If you're looking for a fancy dining experience, you wouldnt find it here; however if you dont mind the "dindgy" look and great food this place is for you. Service is efficient, nothing outstanding. You make your order, tell them how spicey you want your food using the 1-10 scale. I have actually ordered it "more than 10" (really love heat) and they do what they can to spice it up. Prices are reasonable, portions are just right IMHO. Check it out sometime if you like Thai food that isnt "americanized".
Collin_lam
Best Thai food in Winnipeg hands down. I could bottle the Tom Yum soup. Mouth watering.

I probably won't be back. I just didn't think it was very good. Food was ok. Service was the worst part. She kept forgetting things, forgot got my beer, my rice, things came out at a different time. There is better to be had in Winnipeg.
DER
Four of us arrived to find half the tables empty, too bad; the food was excellent. Ginger Pork, Pad Thia, Chicken Fried Rice, Red Curry Vegtables. Appetizers, had Spring Rolls and Cream Cheese
Won Tons, both very good. Prices were reasonable, the service was very good. A new favourite for Thia restaurants.
MissChief
The dishes portion are way too small, and if I need rice there is a $1.00 charge pre person. Food taste pretty good, but seriously they can make the dishes size a lot bigger than that.

Love Thida's I Eat it Once a Week!. I love thai food and Thida's has amazing: matsaman, tom yum soup, peanut sauce stir fry, green mango salad and many other things but those are my favorites.
Thida's stands out from other restaurants because of the delicious, fresh food but also the large amount of veggies in every dish.
I love green curry but it is not my favorite dish there
It is seemingly undiscovered - a great place to try if you have not tried it!
EJ
Prompt service, food is prepared well and served hot, but would like bigger portions...will definitely return !

Best Thai Food EVER!!!. This restaurant is nothing fancy, but the food is amazing. So many fresh vegetables, perfectly tender-crisp, never soggy. The pad thai is hands down the best in the city.

Some of my favourites are the pad peanut (amazing peanut sauce), crab rangoon, chili fried rice, rice rolls, and all of the soups (green curry is delicious).
Yumi McFoodster
Encore! Encore!. Yet another delicious meal at this little spot that exceeded my expectations. Tom Yum soup was very, very YUM indeed; crab Rangoon Appies were hot and perfect with a lovely peanut sauce, my chicken Panang curry and hubb's Pad Thai were exquisite. Thank you to the "handsome Laotian waiter", with a sense of humour. It is always a huge plus to be a patron to an establishment where people's hearts and souls are in their work and the food is so crazy good that you want to lick the plate!

-----30 Dec, 2012-----

Very very good. Loved the crab Rangoon and the Tom Kah soup is lovely. Every time we've been there were lots of tables available and the service is friendly, attentive, knowledgable and prompt.

Doug
Great experience!. Excellent service and excellent food - albeit I only tried the Pad Thai.
SpiceLife
Best Peanut Sauce in the City. The curry here is decently good, nice and spicey, if you like. I give it a 7.5 /10.
Katy F
Hands down best Thai in Winnipeg. Great food and good value. Just be careful how spicy you order your dishes. Highly recommend their green curry soup !
Realist121
This place is our diamond in the rough. Food and service awesome with reasonable prices. Highly recommend

Delicious, super friendly & reasonable prices. I've eaten here a number of times now & I have never been happier with the service, food, and price from any restaurant I've ever eaten at. I only discovered Thai food a year ago in Calgary, and since coming back to Wpg Thida's is my absolute favorite Thai restaurant - I have stopped going anywhere else! I usually get the vegetable spring rolls w/ peanut sauce & an extra peanut sauce b/c I love it so much (the homeade peanut sauce is perfection), the mango salad (unbelievably delicious - sweet & a little spicy & so flavorful), the chicken pad phet (perfect combination of chicken, green curry spicy sauce, bamboo, & celery), and a couple orders of the coconut rice. The owner is so friendly over the phone and even more so in person when I come to pick up the food, and because I've been coming so often she's taken to chatting me up a little bit, and sometimes throwing little extras in for free! I will continue eating here for as long as the same people run it, and constantly recommend it to my friends & family!!

Consistent, Cheap. Love this place for take-out, or an easygoing meal. We tried a few curry dishes, and nothing stood out. It's what I've come to expect from Thai places in Winnipeg: lots of choices, lots of veggies, soups, noodles, rice. The price is good, and as long as they are in business we'll be regular patrons.
Devin
Excellent. We found this place just before it closed on a Sunday night, and the meal was excellent for the price. I had a dish that came with healthy portions of seafood (shrimp, mussels, and calamari) and it was just the right spiciness. I could definitely go again.

Fav Take-Away. Had the take-away from here last week. Great prices and flavor. I had the red curry ( chicken i believe) very good! Best thai i have had downtown.

The inside looks a little run down, but hey when the food tastes that good who cares! I will be bringing my girlfriend here for sure as she loves thai food.
Sarah Zhaloka
It was pretty good. Love it

I had to come home and cook my food#FAIL. I am very suspicious of food reviews cause some people are very picky; but I beg you; do not waste your 13.39 on #45 or on anything else in this restaurant. You will kick yourself if you do, as you will remember you were warned. This is by far the worst thai food I have ever eaten.
I walked in and asked the server to recommend something, he said number "45". I specifically stated that I do not like soggy noodles and that I wanted more of a chow mein style noodle that was not as wet and soggy. I assumed that since he was working there that he would have an idea of what chow mein noodles looked like, but obviously not. What I ended up getting was a pack of what looked like uncooked Mr. Noodle which they labeled "fried noodle". I then had to go home and boil the noodles for it to even be eatable; and consequently i ended up with exactly what I did not want. I have eaten fried noodles before and while they are dry they are not suppose to break in half when you bend it.
#FAIL time 10

I love this place!. I love Thida's. I've been to a few other Thai places in the city and this one is defintely my favourite. You get huge portions, my husband and I can eat a lot and we can never finish an entree each plus an appetizer to share. All the entrees are awesome, they have such wonderful big plump juicy shrimp. You absolutely must try the crab wontons with the peanut sauce, I'm pretty sure they're my favourite thing ever. Service is great too, they're all super accomodating, I've put in orders 15 minutes before close and they didn't seem to care at all, it was awesome.
Raquel
I love it!. I went in to Thidas not expecting much, we just happened to be in the area, and I've continued going back many times. I love this place! I think the prices are great for what you get, they are always friendly, and I LOVE the red curry soup. I like making curry at home, but I just can't compete with Thidas.

It's over.... I started going to and ordering from Thida's three years ago, and went in last week because I expected to have the same great food. Unfortunately, however, I think their quality controls have been loosened and far too much for my taste.

I ordered a green curry dish with rice, and vegetables - and was disappointed at each bite! The curry, which I remembered to be wonderfully aromatic and creamy, was watery/loose and almost cool to the touch. The amount of rice they accompanied with it was (I swear) half the amount they used to give. And, the vegetables weren't cooked to their usual tender but crisp perfection. Rather, they were coated in the watery curry and eclipsed the few allotted grains of rice they provided.

And, to add insult to injury - their prices don't reflect the quality of their product. I paid $10 for something that I think was worth $6.50.

I wish I didn't have to say such harsh things about a once loved eatery, but I guess that's what happens when the honeymoon is over...

What a great place! One of the best Thai restaurants in the city. Great food, fast service and always friendly. Lunch specials are so delicious and served in a timely matter for short lunch breaks. Yum!!
Sophiajean
We went there for dinner. Was a little disappoint. I mean the food was a bit expensive for what you get, and it was not the best Thai food I ever had.
Chris
Pretty Ok. I ordered take out for lunch based on all the fantastic reviews of Thida's and was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the food was okay. But it was just that, okay. I got red curry chicken lunch special. It was pretty small for the price, and the curry was more watery and had less meat that I like. The chicken was good quality, but the veggies included mostly celery and bamboo. The rice portion was small, and though I'm not a big eater, I ate everything (for $13, I was expecting left-overs!).
If you're in the area and want a quick meal, I'd recommend it. If you're looking for great Thai food, look somewhere else.

Quick lunch. Been here quite a few times for lunch. Each time I got hot fresh food, and I didn't have to wait very long. Usually when something comes out that fast, for example stir fry veggies, they are overcooked due to them sitting and waiting for someone to order. Not here. Veggies were crisp, not soft (which is how I would prefer them), the sauces were good, a little more bland then some I've tasted but still very yummy. Service was superb. Very attentive and helpful, even when I was alone. I always left satisfied.

Order the soup! seriously, do it!. I have been here three times in the past month and the food has impressed me every time. Especially the soup. It's delicate, well-balanced, and packed with some serious flavour. Their soup is such a knock out! The other dishes that I've tried are pretty good, as far as Thai restaurants go in this city. The service is efficient and friendly. This is my new favourite Thai spot.

Tasty and hasn't changed in years. I've ordered from Thida's for several years now and usually the same thing and it's always been constant. It's nice to have a place that is consistent with their recipes and knows a good thing when they have it. Prices are decent and the menu is fair. Other than some pretty gross soup once, I've never been disappointed!
It won't ever be my favourite or my go to (my gold standard is Siam Thai), but it hits the spot.

-----08 Apr, 2011-----

May be changing my mind! For the better!. I reviewed Thida's based on my previous experience with Pad Si Ew which they did very poorly and I was incredibly disappointed.
However, last night I ordered again along with a friend who was already getting something. I figured, I'm hungry, why not? I ordered the Prawn Pad Thai and LOVED it. I wolfed it down and wished for more.
If Thida's remains consistent with my most recent experience, then they've got a regular!

-----07 Apr, 2011-----

Not such a fan. I'm a big fan of Pad Sew and Thida's disappointed me. I was very much let down by my 'meal' and found it flavourless. The carrots weren't cooked properly and the chinese broccoli (my apologies, the real name eludes me tonight) was much too bitter and cooked too long. All in all, I won't be returning but I wouldn't go out of my way to tell others not to go. They might have just been off their game.
