Review Carne Italian Chophouse - Winnipeg

Beautiful experience, with a very nice vibe. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about their food. Service was amazing. Portions are amazing, just look at that steak. Best steak in Wpg, I used to believe 529 had the best steak. Carne was better and would recommend it. The steak was perfect. The oysters are a great starters. The carbonara pasta was beautiful. The calamari was not my favourite, but it did not take away from the main course.

We went there on Nov 12,2018 for our anniversary. The service is pretty good and Dale(not sure spelling correct) is so professional. Steak is tender in good portion and pasta is fresh in spicy which is my favorite. We had a unforgettable dinner there on our 1st year anniversary.

Service was the best part. This restaurant is between a 4-5 star. I'll explain further below. I was very much a huge steak eater before but less so now. I underestimated my ability to eat the wagyu. 14 oz at $69 for the ribeye seemed reasonable, though next time I would have gone for the tenderloin. The meat is so marbled that it didn't take me much to get filled up. The calamari could have been more crispy. The scallops I enjoyed. They were 4 very large pieces. The sauce paired well. The eggplant parmesan and the pasta was fine A lot of the food I felt was fine, but it didn't wow me. A solid consistent restaurant can still get a 5 from me if I felt I would jump at the chance to return. Food was a 4 Service was a 5 Atmosphere was a 5 I enjoyed my meal and had a nice time. I would like to return and find something that draws me back constantly, but at the moment what might would be the service. Parking is available on the top floor of the parkade for free. Take your ticket inside to validate.

We now have a new favorite steak house. The decor was great, the service was excellent, great attention to detail. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the food was amazing. Its family style, so you get a few sides and share around the table. Our steak was for two of us, cooked perfectly and we asked it to come out cut to make it easier to share. Drink menu was great, the cocktails were superb, and an excellent wine menu, everything for every taste, occasion and budget. That being said, it's high end, so expect the bill, but the food and drinks match the price. And let's face it, there are too many places in Winnipeg that offer mediocre food for exorbitant prices. Our server was very attentive, and the manager came by once to ask how everything was, but quick and discreetly, very nice, then off again so we could enjoy our dining experience. 5 stars for sure.

The atmosphere here was somehow very laid back yet super upscale at the same time. Alan was our waiter and he made this a very this a very pleasant evening (recommending where to park, explaining the menu, making sure our cups were never empty, and his very cheerful disposition) and even the manager visited the table to see how everything was. And it was delightful. The sides are much bigger than I was expecting and probably should not have been ordered with the pasta, as I was too full to try more than a taste. And it was very good, I would very highly recommend the fried brussles spouts with boar bacon.

Make sure to order the Brussel Sprouts! I am not a fan of them but these are fantastic! Also the Tempura Califlower. NOTE: The only Canadian Whisky is Crown Royal... Which really surprises me. I was not a fan of the Chicken livers. They were is a type of gravy with tomatoes. Steaks were fantastic! Very nice atmosphere.

Steak was cooked to perfection and was seasoned just enough to still enjoy the quality of the cut. I would have given five stars but the staff was rushed and preoccupied with other tables. He was rushing a little too much and was very noticeable. I would expect a smoother, attentive, not that rushed feeling from such a nice restaurant.

Good food, but nothing really blew me away. Service and atmosphere we're good. I shared the 1kg Porter house, which was cooked perfectly and tasted great... also had some sides; the tuna tartar was delicious.

We had a great meal. We ordered tuna tartare, the 12 oz Wagyu ribeye to share, and the brussels sprouts with proscuitto, and I think a balsamic reduction. Everything was prepared well. The tartare was very tasty; the beef was cooked to perfection, and was wonderfully tender. The brussels sprouts were tender-crisp and had a nice sweet/salty flavour punch. Because it was my birthday, we were given complementary prosecco, which was a nice touch. The dessert, chocolate pate with vanilla ice cream, was ok--not spectacular. The ambience is understated, and the service was excellent. The quality is high, and we'd return. We enjoyed this restaurant and would recommend it.

If you are a foodie then this is a must try . Carne is filled with surprises , from the menu and excellent service to the soft atmosphere . The menu is a la carte , shockingly the sides are large enough to share so it's nice that we were able to sample multiple items together . I ordered the waygu beef , however I would not recommend it but rather the tenderlion to which my spouse had ordered . The tenderlion was literally melt in your mouth and prepared to perfection. When we go back and I most definitely will , that's what will be my meal of choice .

Excellent restaurant. We had our anniversary dinner there with our 2 year old daughter. The restaurant manager welcomed us at the door and the staff was more than welcoming to my family. The 16oz eye of rib wagyu, WOW!!!! it was cooked perfectly. It literally melted in my mouth, perfectly seasoned. I think it was just salt they used. The black magic pasta is a definite eye opener. It’s not a basic tomato sauce paste. It’s so different, in a delicious way though. The chunks of scallions and the prawns. Also had an order of fried. Fried made fancy, that truffle sauce. Hot damn those were some fancy fries I defiantly recommend these dishes. Warm atmosphere good food and great staff. I need to go back!

After 2 months in Winnipeg for work, we went to many places that people recommended us and the Carne Italian Chop House on 295 York St has amazed us, for the service, the flavours for sure and the best Wagyu beef you could get in the city for sure. Never tasted better! Not even talking about the cooking skills of the grilling master that is behind the stoves. Grilled at perfection your steak will always be the same, the best you will ever have! Thanks for the 4 amazing meal I had at « Carne » !! Thank you
John Stewart
A little on the expensive side but definitely one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Highly recommend going. Everything was cooked perfectly and the staff were fantastic. Best NY Steak you will ever have.

Everything was amazing! Was there with a party of 10 and all the food was served in good time, perfectly cooked, and delicious! On the pricier side but absolutely worth it and I would definitely recommend!

We went before a Jets game but we're late for our reservation and they did not bat an eye but made sure we were out on time. Our server was lovely too. I had the 4 oz A5 beef and it was like foie gras, melted in my mouth!!! My hubby had the Wagyu rib steak and he feels it was the best steak he had ever had. We have been once before for appies and loved that too. Will go back!!!!

I went with my boyfriend for our anniversary/Valentines Day dinner. We made a reservation on open table for 6:30 but when we showed up early they led us in right away. Really great atmosphere for a nice date night. We shared the buttered potato patte, Brussels sprouts, and a giant steak. Everything was cooked to perfection! Absolutely delicious. The service was incredible, she even had great recommendations. As a special treat they also gave us each a glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary! I would highly reccomend this place to friends and family. Can't wait to come back again and try something new!

Outstanding steak!! I'd definitely go again for the steak. Respectable selection of craft beer as well. However, I had ordered the Red Racer IPA, and she instead brought me out the Red Racer RED ale (strange, becuase the RED ALE wasn't even on the menu!!). After tasting it, I had brought that to her attention and asked if she could bring me the right one. Mistakes happen - I get it. But then, the bar manager and waitress tried telling me that a RED ale is the same as an IPA. Hahaha - as a craft beer enthusiast, I assured her that they are NOT even CLOSE to being the same thing. That's like saying apple juice is the same as orange juice.....they may both be good, but they are very definitely NOT the same. Or, if someone ordered the tenderloin and they decided to instead bring out a serloin and call it the same :-) Anyway, I drank the beer.....they didn't even offer to switch it up for me, or remove it from my bill. For a restaurant of that level, and considering how much I was spending on the entire meal, I would have expected that they at least remove it from the bill. Just didn't feel right that I needed to pay $8 for a beer that wasn't what I ordered from the menu.....

The atmosphere is very cozy and upscale. Our waiter was very attentive and personable. The food was amazing. I said "mmmmmm" multiple times as my tenderloin practically melted in my mouth!! Will definitely be going back!

We came for our Anniversary and we not disappointed. The appies, oysters and Wagu beef was top notch. Highly recommend anyone who appreciates good food to come here!

Had the most amazing time at this place. The food was great and the service was fantastic. When you visit ask for Tony at the bar he made us some of the best drinks we've had in a while.

Huge portions, often enough for two. I ordered chicken and got almost a whole chicken with roasted potatoes on it and it could easily have fed two. The chicken was so moist it stayed beautifully in the fridge too. Cheers.

We were with a large group and every dish that came out of the kitchen was really good . I had the sea bass it was very good. I had a taste of a few starters, shrimp tuna tartar, scallops, sausage, all fantastic. Portions are big so sharing is encouraged.

Kitchen was a little slow but food was good. They were busier for a Wednesday which was the cause.

Had not been back to this space since it was the restaurant formerly known as 295 York, but my husband and I decided to return prior to attending the symphony.

The decor is modern, elegant, simple. The tables seem close yet with the arrangement conversations remain private. The service was excellent. Our server, Dale, was extremely knowledgeable while achieving that perfect balance between being friendly yet professional. He guided us through the menu with a quiet confidence that comes from extensive experience.

After reading and researching Wagyu beef for years we came prepared to try it. We ordered the Brandt Lake Wagyu 10 oz New York Strip from Alberta to sample what we have available here for 59.00, as well as the 4 oz Japanese A5 Kagoshima Prefecture New York Chef’s Cut for 90.00. Wagyu is famed for it’s intense marbling which brings forth tenderness and flavour, making its briskets a favourite for professional barbecue competitors and its steaks a favourite among restaurant goers.

The Alberta Wagyu was no slouch, offering a wonderful, sinful flavour and tenderness; something you would talk about all the way home had you not decided to take things a step further on the menu.

The Japanese Wagyu was like nothing of this earth, the fat distribution so equal to the meat its consistency made it more like a noodle than a steak, melting on the tongue and forcing the eyes closed to further intensify the experience of total and utter flavour euphoria.

You immediately know damn well where that extra money went.

The Wagyu forced the dinner conversation toward all our travels and all the wonderful culinary firsts we had experienced together all over the world. This too, would be an experience to add to future conversations.

On a platter beside the steaks rested a Tempura Canadian Lobster Tail; the tail sliced to pieces, breaded and fried, just waiting to be dipped into a cup of warm, melted butter. As if the Wagyu on its own wasn’t deserving of a parade - the lobster, and a huge side of obscenely tasty Garlic Butter Button Mushrooms had to force the meal into total culinary debauchery.

Dessert? Ha. We never eat dessert to begin with; but there would never be a need to order it following that meal. The meal WAS the dessert.

Recommended. Will be returning.

Yum. Had the “Black Magic” it was lovely. The flavour exceeded my expectations. Seafood was cooked to perfection. I’d give it a 10 if I could. Staff are very knowledgeable about wine pairings. My complements to the chef and staff.

After hearing so many positive reviews about this place, we decided to come check it out on our own!

At our arrival, we received coat check service at the front and were guided to the table by the hostess. The restaurant is very modern and vibrant. It reminded me of The Keg but much more elegant. Carne has brighter lighting and it is significantly nicer.

The restaurant offers a wide selection of food, including seafood, foie gras, lamb, veal, pasta and steaks. They even offer as large as a 28oz bone-in rib steak.

We were served with grissini (bread sticks) and cheese buns with olive oil and balsamic dip to start.

For entrée, we had the Brant Lake Wagyu New York Strip with gnocchi and the Alberta Harmony tenderloin with garlic sautéed prawns. They both were delicious! Of the two dishes, we were exceptionally pleased with the Wagyu beef and would highly recommend it. That was hansadown one of the best piece of steaks we had ever had! The steak was of a high quality and you can definitely taste a significant difference between a Wagyu steak and any other ordinary steaks.

Carne Italian has excellent drinks too. We really enjoyed their Sangria.

Fancy dinner do not come cheap. The price range at Carne Italian was comparable to 529 but the steak definitely surpassed it. In terms of service, it was alright. The server could definitely have been more attentive.

Overall, we were very pleased with the restaurant. It was definitely comparable to some of the high end restaurants in the states. We highly recommend it!

This was my first time at Carne and I was very impressed with the menu options and the wine list.

I had the following. Cesear Salad, Spaghetti Alla Vongole and the Tiramisu to finish. The Boar Bacon in the Spaghetti was phenomenal! Definitely want to come back to try some of the amazing looking steaks.

Hands down the best steak I've ever had. Don't tell my former rancher father 😝. My boyfriend brought me here to celebrate my birthday and let me tell you it did not disappoint.
The decor is lovely, romantic without being too dark to see your food and the space is huge but broken up so it's not overwhelming. Our waiter was lovely suggesting and explaining things on the menu.
As it was a celebration we went all out. First we had the calamari which was cooked perfectly in a tempura batter and not rubbery in the least. The complimentary focaccia topped with San marzano tomatoes served with oil and balsamic vinegar was so excellent we asked for seconds. The steak was seared perfectly and so tender I cut it with my fork just to see if I could. The side of gnocchi was a bit small for two people even though it was suggested we share sides. It too was tender and tasty in a creamy Gorgonzola sauce. The crème brûlée was a bit small for $10 but it too was very tasty.
Obviously do not come here if you are on a budget but for a fancy occasion it is perfect. I will absolutely be back to try some of the pastas I saw and smelled other patrons eating.

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening with eight friends. Service outstanding. Atmosphere worked well and I could enjoy conversation at our table without listening to anyone else in the restaurant. Bread sticks unique and addictive. Bread with dipping sauce (oil and vinegar?) perfect. Had the veal. One of the best I have ever had. Tasted the sea bass and it definitely made my mouth happy. Planning to go back.

I would recommend this restaurant for the steak alone. We had a rib steak for two and it was perfect. The sides were ok but the rapini & kale could have been seasoned better. For dessert I had Tiramisu which was not great but my friend really enjoyed her chocolate paste. I plan to return and try some of the pasta dishes. The mussel appetizer was fantastic - probably the best mussels I have ever had.

Went on a Monday night for a nice dinner with my girlfriend. We arrived later (7:45) for our reservation, and the restaurant was more or less empty (two tables beside us, but I think the three of us were the only tables in the restaurant filled. Lounge was a bit busier).

Overall decor is really nice, we enjoyed the atmosphere.

Server was very kind, knowledgeable about the wines and food, and made some great recommendations.

My girlfriend got the Spaghetti, while I got the Gnocchi with Bolognese sauce. We shared the Piada flatbread for a starter. All around, the food was satisfying, and exceeded expectations. Gnocchi was one of their specialties, as they make it in house each morning and it did not disappoint.

Value is alright - it's certainly more expensive but for a nice meal, with good wine options, well worth the price. Would come again.

I attended Carne Italian Chophouse with the Learning Disabilities Association of Manitoba (LDAM)'s Date with a Star event in January 2017. The food at this restaurant is amazing and the service is spectacular! As the menu is family style, it is is great for sharing. The cuts and choices of meat are truly next level - this may be the best steakhouse in the City. We tasted pretty much everything on the menu and everything was delicious plus the staff are very knowledgeable. This place is a hidden gem - it has great food, a beautiful atmosphere and a convenient downtown location, very close to the MTS centre. Definitely a must try!

Incredible food, gorgeous atmosphere, great service. New favourite restaurant in all of Winnipeg! We had the Caesar salad, oysters (fantastic), Brussels sprouts, and steak. All were so amazing we couldn't talk while eating. I am beyond impressed.

I loved Lobby on York but it's unfortunately gone through so many iterations. I think this is the 3rd name in this location after Lobby and still under Wow Hospitality. The last one was some oyster bar that didn't do that well and I never tried it. The space has not changed - same classy ambiance as it was when it first opened up as Lobby. There's not many elegant dining spaces in Winnipeg but this one would fall into that. Elegant without feeling stuffy.

The night we were there it was bustling - lots of diners and holiday parties in the private rooms. The menu is on the pricier side and if you're ordering the steak dishes, will require additional sides ($8-$11). Starters $9-$22, Pasta $16-$26, raw bar $12-$26, wagyu is $40-$80, triple AAA alberta beef is $29-$49, other mains $26-$55 with an osso bucco for two at $92, seafood is $32-$64.

The complimentary foccacia was a bit stingy as there was a small basket with two pieces. When we asked for just another serving, the young server seemed annoyed she had to go back to get more. She was not our main server but the bread runner. Our main server was very friendly and knowledgable - thankfully.

There is homage paid to the former pasta la vista restaurant in city place with the "PLV Chicken Livers" for $14 - scallions, tomato, balsamic red wine jus and toast. This dish didn't taste like the PLV that my husband remembered and the sauce was very thick and on the salty side. One pet peeve I always have is when restaurants don't provide enough toast to go with the appetizer and they did just that. We had to use our additional foccacia pieces for that - good thing we asked for that second helping!

I had the 8 ounce ribeye from Snake River Farms U.S.A. Wagyu Beef for $49. I've had wagyu before and this one was disappointing. The ribeye was fatty but lacked the tenderness I was expecting.

The veal marsala $29 is a milk fed veal scallopini, mushroom marsala cream sauce. This was an ok but not the best veal I've had. The marsala sauce felt dark.

The side of buttered potato puree $8 was a very large portion - easily shared between 3-4 as it was very heavily buttered but was very dense in texture and extremely salty.

Overall the seasoning felt off that night. The meat which should have been the start was disappointing and every dish had something that was off. I hope there's improvements as I really wanted to like this place.

Ambiance amazing. The room and the service are second to none (for us anyway). The bar space (that we passed by) looked inviting; very well appointed.

Four of us enjoyed dinner with our server, Dale.

Cocktails were well crafted. I had an old fashioned made to order with no fruit.

We started with seared scallops and calamari (a safe bet for the first time here). Both prepared nicely.

For dinner, the guys enjoyed the bone-in steak done rare, prepared perfectly. Both sauced with pour-your-own Gorgonzola cream. Amazing.

One of our ladies loved her ribeye done medium rare, prepared perfectly.

Our other lady enjoyed her black magic squid ink pasta dish complete with mussels, scallops and shrimp. Also prepared and presented wonderfully.

Sides included mushrooms (of course), frazzled Brussels sprouts, shrimp and truffle fries.

We enjoyed bottles of McManis Cabernet Sauvignon. Excellent value and perfect accompaniment.

Everything was superb.

No dessert or coffee for us tonight.

The only reason why I'm not rating it a 5/5 is simply the fact that other than the wonderful space and the modern elegant ambiance, there is little to differentiate what is on the plate from other steakhouses in Winnipeg (whether they be an overpriced former-Edmonton-street-haunt, a chain restaurant nearby or a cousin on Wellington Cr).

Still... we will most certainly be back.
Outstanding steak!! I'd definitely go again for the steak. The Black Magic was quite good as well (not quite as good as "That Old Black Magic", which is the dish it appears to replicate from a past restaurant called "Pasta LaVista", but still very delicious).

Respectable selection of craft beer as well. However, I had ordered the Red Racer IPA, and she instead brought me out the Red Racer RED ale (strange, becuase the RED ALE wasn't even on the menu!!).
